All of the unusual names I know of are really awful, like this girl I met whose name was Latrina. I was two seconds away from asking her if she had a brother named John and a sister name Toilette, but decided that it wouldn't be very nice, particularly since she was only 10 years old.

My Dad introduced me to her, and instead of returning my polite greeting, she said in the voice of a screeching hag, "RAINY?????!!!!! That's a funny name!" and cackled very rudely. I was so humiliated and offended, my manners went out the window and I kicked her in the leg.

Hands down, my friend Fowzy Butt takes the cake. (His first name is pronounced "FAH-zee", like the Muppet bear.) He pulls the name off beautifully, and turns what would lead some people to a life of seclusion and self-loathing into an asset.

He's one of two Pakistani guitarists that was in my old band. The other, coincidentally enough, was named Nadir. It's pronounced NAH-dher, though.
