jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

There is the theory of the Nedius...a TWIST in the fabric of hair...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Any bonus tracks? Some Fibonacci remixes p'raps?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Any bonus tracks?

The threatened bonus track was a reading of e. I should note I was never planning on that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

is fibonacci some kind of classical music?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

31.4) and we've come full circle

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It is one single track, though he reads it at a good slow pace, so it should be trivial to bust out several instances of him reading each number.

I am thinking of doing a flash mabob which will automatically generate him reading pi (or perhaps other numbers!) for much longer.

#27 is entirely what it sounds like.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

32. Write a review of it peppered with references to drone rock.

37. Also, JACK CHICK-MAGNET.

xpost, NA, check out the Ned PDX FAP thread.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I like suggestion #34 but why leave it at four, in fact:

38. Hire Royal Albert Hall and 200 CD players, create sound art, cover of Wire, threads about you in ILM etc etc etc

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I sorta had my live debut two days ago (selections: part of the opening chapter to my Gordon Nightingale novel and random bits, with appropriate photos, from a second grade book on science from 1978 -- the latter was definitely the big hit, as it involved me with quizzical expressions saying things like "Fire gives us warmth. But not all fires are good," while holding up the accompanying photo that showed a house burning down).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Any groupies?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

So Ned actually has a nice voice? I always imagined he would sound like the Comic book Guy!

TRON FIGHTS FOR THE USERS (ex machina), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

42. place it on a table, with candles and pictures of Ned, in a house full of pictures of Ned, and special pictures and fountains, with "Ned" written on them, and a few hundred CD players playing the recording at different parts of it so it's all babbling and inescapable, and many many followers wearing robes with "Ned" painted on to them with their blood, chanting "Ned, Ned, Ned", in a village full of similar followers, all chanting "Ned, Ned, Ned".

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

From #39 to #43? Ned's voice apparently has that boomerang effect.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes me think of gumbo.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 1 June 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

there's an iain banks book where enemies take over a digital library and destroy everything by sorting it. someone should remix ned so that all the 0s come first, then the 1s, then the 2s...

and steve could do the video featuring the sign-language woman.

Krankenhaus, Sunday, 8 August 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah! I'm not into his prog-rocky stuff. His "Almanac" album was all earthy an authentic and shit, tho.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 8 August 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Prog-rocky? It's math rock, no? (*din of groans*)

Heh, I just downloaded that Ned mp3 and the entire Conet project boxed set (which is at archive.org) this weekend, so I'm feeling a little dizzy now.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Sunday, 8 August 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Now imagine said voice talking about Lycia.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

On Almanac it's rather soft and friendly, "Pi" is a lot more vitriolic and scathing. The way he says those numbers - so much bile!

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

NINE...NINE...NINE...NINE...NINE...NINE...EIGHT!

Splendid!

68) Take a random 10-digit sequence from the reading, dial it, and ask if Ned is there. Repeat if necessary.

69) Use it as a mirror to facilitate applying lipstick.

69a) Kiss the recording artist.

Has anybody ever done a song with pi as the only lyrics?

Fergal (Ferg), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

If they ever make a sequel to "Pi" (the film), this should be on the soundtrack. Remixed by Clint Mansell!

That actually is a very good idea (he said some time later).

I still want SOMEONE to remix bits of this.

(Two spoken word tapes are in the hands of Tape Mountain/Sad Penguin and ideas are being considered for release. Meanwhile, yesterday I recorded with Gang Wizard in my first musical experiment (or something).)

Actually what a great testimonial for the page:

"It is...gripping." -- John Derbyshire.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 14 March 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

(That first mention led to about 3000 people checking out the site, and a small handful of orders, and a few other people blogged it, which lead to a further 1000 hits. I'm kinda hoping it shows up on one of the big blogs today for Pi day but we'll see.)

xpost: True.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I know, I know, I was just pushing my luck! :)

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

(And another handful were sold.)

:-) Did you actually sell through the first printing?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

A while ago. "Sell through" mostly in the sense of "gave away" a bunch at the release brunch. But yes, I had a panic because I was out of EP envelopes and live further away from the paper store than I used to and blah blah blah. Suffice to say I got that taken care of in time to get Derb his copy by Pi Day! And I am making new copies as I type, tra la!

PI IN THE SKY [John Derbyshire]

I assume everyone's getting ready for pi day (i.e. 3/14). Don't forget to fish out (or order, if you don't have it) that wonderful CD of Ned Raggett reading the blessed number.

This year's pi day is slightly special as it is also--on the US East coast, anyway--the date of a total penumbral lunar eclipse. So while listening to Ned read out the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, you can watch the Moon's circle being overcome by the Earth's circular shadow. A sort of pi in the sky experience.

I admit to loving this.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)
