2nd July, Hi-Fi Bar, $36. Last time I saw them was BDO 1991. They had massive balloons on their heads, and when Sonic Youth started in the main arena, Barassi [I think] told everyone to bugger off and watch Sonic Youth, but nobody did.

It was the new show. Tom Baker was on a moving train with his assistant [unclear, Romana maybe], and then Eccleston came down the station escalator with a really really bad haircut. Short with blonde highlights and a weird shaved bit at the front. The show was crap.

"Koons 1991 silkscreen, Red Butt (distance) from the series Made in Heaven was inspired by the opulence and decorative nature of the Rococo and Baroque styles that were in vogue in the 18th Century. He was especially enamoured with the work of Francois Boucher and Jean Baptiste Fragonard, artists whose works flirted on the wrong side of social decency during that time"

How can I word this line better?

The works which prominently feature Koons and former porn model Ilona Cicciolina in varying configurations of sexual union.

It sounds very uhhh....clinical at the moment.

so col, about these black metal techno trax.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

or, slightly more importantly, theres a wiggles thread on ilm

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I took your advice, now that i've handed the assignment in I've forgotten everything I learned about koons and rococo and baroque art.

Now I have to discuss how my own work is informed by some element of art history. I'm taking the religious icons angle/religious symbolism.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

what if it wasn't informed by some element of art history?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 11 June 2004 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, its all about the originals.

good day.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like it.

Makes me want to fast forward my life into someplace stable.

Although it's kind of nice not knowing what the future holds sometimes, although i guess no one ever really knows.

Did you get my email?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i think so :)

So Gaz, you went to art school. What did you major in?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

*looks embarrassed. shuffles feet*

film & video.

it was the 80's!

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, thats what my husband studied...it was the 90's :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

my wife did textiles. haha textiles. she did that weird make abstarct art/sculpture art from textiles stuff.

i fancied her then but never scored. ten years later we became friends (thru mutuals, y'know). after six months of shooting pool and going clubbing together an excess of alcohol provided me with the opportunity to...to...get a bit closer.

yer hubby?

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:10 (twenty-one years ago)

What how did we meet?

We both liked the same band. I was a prolific poster on this band I likeds message board, I was very popular with everyone(for once in my life) and one day I had a whinge about the fact that there were no Australian fans of the band. Oct. 2nd 2000 I got an email from Darren saying hi and that there were in fact other fans of the band in Australia and that he had been lurking on the message board for quite a while. We got talking, I thought he was okay, he came down from townsville to brisbane on hols and I blew him on the first date. But somewhere between then and now things went dreadfully awry :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

You blew him a kiss on the first date? That was very forward.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

ah there is a phrase in there that i am contemplating

;)

xpost

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i have been blown on the first date precisely nonce.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've blown it on the first date on numerous occasions.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yes indeed. most of the time by wondering "is this a date?"

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, 'What would a confident, good looking man do at this point?'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaaaaah... How nice it is that the internal monologue is with me, rather than against me, as it was in my teenage years... Once I used to say to myself, 'You're hopeless, pathetic etc'. Now I say to myself, 'Hey tiger, how about a BLT and an orange juice?'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Colin is alone, alone, alone on the briny sea...

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I just went out to get some indian take away. Yummo!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

My internal monologue still says "shut up trayce youre babbling again" or "god why dont you say SOMETHING!" or other such anxious rantings :/

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i have no idea how "dating" might be to me now. i am obv. more confident about certain things but also kinda think i am a boring fart (which wasn't a prob before)

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too gaz, but as a relatively recent divorcee, can I just say that nothing beats being over 30 for self-confidence. The brief period of dating I had before I met R was a lot easier than my teens, even as a single parent with a receding hairline.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

My internal monologue just said, 'Hey, you forgot to give Trayce a nod. And how about treating yourself to a glass of red while you're at it?'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. i haven't tried thirties dating, don't plan on ANY more dating. my dating period was late teens (actually...dating, no) and then mid-late 20's and it was a pretty rollercoaster up & down thing with the good the bad and the etc.

i am completely fucked out of a steady relationship.

did you date R?

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never dated per se.

Everyone I've ever been in a relationship with has been a childhood friend or some random internetter.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

life is not like the manuals.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

althougfh art school is good for somethings

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, ipsy, you are a child of the modern age.

Mully, R and I started working on one of her installations (I was providing the music) and gradually it turned into dating. We bonded over a mutual love of gherkins.

I got no action at university. It was a complete waste of time. I was, and am, a nerd.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought art school would be full of wanton immorality and experimental drug taking. If it is, I've been left out.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

It was going on around me but I wasn't invited. Then I joined a band and... nothing... I was flabbergasted. I was convinced being in a band would get me a piece of the action. Nuh.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny, I have access to stuff now...but it's through my younger brother and his crowd. He must be the solitary "cool" member of my family.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the noughties art skool vs the 80's then. truth be told i never even went. consensus was they wouldn't fail you in first year (new experience) or 3rd (get 'em through).

spent most of the time in bed or off my fucking face. this is NOT a recommendation. i am now the least qualifies guy who had opportunities in the world

gherkins?

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to meet my future partner on the basis of gherkins.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

One extra on the side for each of us with every hamburger. It was love.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Then off home with another gherkin which we... no, now I'm just being silly.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

My husband always takes them off and attempts to throw them away (I rescue them)

I should've known it would never work.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

voni and spent a lot of time together as friends. then went for drinks when no one else was around (xmas eve) at the bourb*n & beef and then i tore her dress off. no gherkins involved.

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think i've ever worn a tearable off dress.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think it was wearable again.

i DEMAND the trayce/nick story!

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Saturday, 12 June 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

sunday. nice day.

did jim get on the dancefloor then?

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah on friday for a bit, gotta love those soul tunes.. possibly tonight but i don't know..

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i have very little northern soul (maybe 4 or 5 comps) but yeah...great stuff.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:39 (twenty-one years ago)

that's 3 or 4 more NS comps than i have. my knowledge kind of starts and stops with 'nothing but a heartache'. but it's easy stuff to dance to.

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

it always seems like it might be a bottomless pit for collectors to fall in.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes. and the rabidness of the collectors makes garage rock and psychedelic collectors seem meek and restrained by comparison

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought a northern soul comp.

It was bad.

but it only cost me $3, so that could be why.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a nuggets for NS?

(haha i just got nuggets 1 & 2 hahahahahahahahahaha)

i may know the comp you mean kate.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah and i had to listen to magic and loss all afternoon, but bought a stan ridgway album I've wanted forever to make up for it.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 13 June 2004 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

is stan cool? i like the big heat but i hate mosquitos. i sold my wall of voodoo records. tell me more.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 13 June 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think stan is cool, but my idea of cool and the rest of the worlds idea of cool varies wildly.

Stan is the only man i've ever had naughty dreams about.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 13 June 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard mosquitos. Wall of Voodoo can bite my balls. I hate mexican radio with a passion.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 13 June 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't understand just what does he say. But I LOVED 'Camouflage'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 13 June 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 13 June 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

My name is colin and I am not afraid to rock.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have any comeback for that kind of proclamation :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

who are the people who are afraid to rock colin?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I think we need to point some fingers here. Name names. Expose traitors. Who is afraid to rock? They could be your parents, your children, that teacher you trusted, the nice lady at the tuck shop... no-one is safe, no-one can be trusted.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not afraid to rock, I just don't know how.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Is rocking imperative?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 14 June 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

why does mongrels not want to rock?

the surface noise and the analogue warmth (electricsound), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

its a big world. it never occurred to me. should i?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a question each of us must ask, to ourselves, in a quiet hour, perhaps.

Another interesting question: is colin drunk? I think you know the answer.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 14 June 2004 05:45 (twenty-one years ago)

drunkeness is no longer the cutting edge col

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 14 June 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

. In O’Brien’s painting, the halo is used both aesthetically and symbolically to denote someone of great import or significance. Compositionally it provides a focal point in the work, with the diagonal slant of the figure drawing the eyes across the painting.

I'm sooooooooo bored

I know a guy who's tough but sweet
He's so fine, he can't be beat
He's got everything that I desire
Sets the summer sun on fire

I want andy, I want andy

Go to see him when the sun goes down
Ain't no finer boy in town
You're my guy, just what the doctor ordered
So sweet, you make my mouth water

I want andy, I want andy

andy on the beach, there's nothing better
But I like andy when it's wrapped in a sweater
Some day soon I'll make you mine,
Then I'll have andy all the time

I want andy, I want andy
I want andy, I want andy...

I found out on the weekend that another word for gossamer thin or delicate is 'sleazy'. That could lead to all kinds of misunderstandings!

Yeah, i'm cryptic, thats for sure.

here is the highlight of my work week.

yesterday one of our young punjabi journo's brought round this teenage gujurati girl who was doing some interview and introduced us to her. on the wall behind g*ldfoots desk are a series of cheesy album covers, one of which features this guy in a white jump suit and long hair and the name "nigel". so sh*erien says "G*ldfoot used to be a rockstar in the 70's, thats his album" and the guj girl believes it and says fawningly to Goldie "wow thats so cool: whats yer latest album?"

*NB: this may only be funny if you know goldie.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 17 June 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahaha. I don't know who/what G*ldie is but I'd love to have seen the look on her face.

Last week I taught myself to fall asleep on command. It's worked every night except one, when it took a few minutes longer than usual. Should I be worried?

Lo Boob Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 17 June 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

How did I do it? I really don't know. I just lie there and... try to put my mind into a state of unconsciousness, and it works. I'm really not sure how.

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Friday, 18 June 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I prescribe coffee, jim. I also find that a good argument with my bandmates about musical direction, with plenty of below-the-belt ad himinism, wakes me right up.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 18 June 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The exam was okay, I think I passed...maybe

Considering I know nothing about Australian Architechture or heritage listed houses I think I did okay.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 18 June 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 18 June 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 18 June 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright! Melancholy strings to break a hard man's heart.

OK get this gaz: childrens' birthday parties at bloody Hungry Jacks. I've got one this afternoon. My strategy is to feed up the little one beforehand on healthy food - but I still feel uncomfortable about the whole thing. What do you do?
