ILE on the left, ILM on the right

That is the way I realised the two boards are in my head. Not politically. I just mean when I think about ILM it feels spatially right of ILE somehow. No, I don't have them left and right of each other on my toolbar or anything. I don't know what accounts for it really. Does this mean anything to you?

I think it's that they're usually thought of as ILE & ILM (in that order) because ILE is the biggest and because of unconscious alphabetising. Then being Westerners we read left to right, so ILE goes on the left. Oh the tyranny of the written word.

It could be a left-brain/right-brain thing but I can never remember which of those is which.

I understand what Nick is saying.

Surely this psychologically depends on which board you were first aware of, most ILM veterans - have to press LUSENET to access to ILE, going to a link - would indicate a move to the left, due to the spatial placing of LUSENET - is on the left the screen (in relation to Human-Computer Interaction) - rather than on the right of the screen - which further signifies why ILE is associated with the left for ILM veterans.

For those who started on ILE first - this cognitive process would be reversed, i.e ILM would be on the left.

Dude, I've finally figured out why I think ILE is on the left: I used to jump from the Freakytrigger main page to ILM first, and then when I wanted to look at ILE, I'd click back (an arrow to the left) to Freakytrigger to get the link. This all makes sense now.

Yes, ILM is both more right wing and more left brain (thinking, reasoning, constucting belief systems) than ILE (imaginative, visual, non-linear), so it's appropriate that it is situated spatially on the left. Appropriately, ILM is also full of critics - and the left brain is responsible for critical thinking.

Now, the commisures, which link the two halves of the brain, are thicker in women than men, and their left/right brain thinking is consequently more synchronised on average. We would then expect that women would do a lot more rapid-fire switching between ILM and ILE than men.

I feel like I don't know you people. The thread title is obviously correct. ILE is on the left and ILM is on the right; I can't imagine it any other way. i think ILE is on the left because for the first 6 months or so, i used ILM exclusively, and when i got around to using ILE, when i was looking at the new answers page, i felt like i was in a bizarro world, since it's got the same html format as ILM, so being disoriented, i had to regain my bearings to feel comfortable, so i looked for the ILM link, which was on the top right. ever since then, ILM has been imprinted into my sense of direction as being on the right of ILE. sounds like a far-fetched explanation, but it feels right.

The only way that ILE would be on the right is if it were called "I Love Everything But Music." This is because ILX would be read before IL-not-X, which would make more sense to the reader. As it stands, it goes ILE then ILM because since ILE is all-inclusive, you have to put it either at the start or the end of the list, and there's no way in hell that ILE is further right than I Love AFL. So it goes ILE, then ILM, then other stuff. ILG, I guess. Then the baseball one.
