ILX Remembered

I just had a new idea for a thread. It's about reliving great ilx moments, but instead of providing links to, or copying out quotations from, old threads, you just remember them, as accurately or otherwise as you can.

So you don't have to go and find the old thread itself; and your memory will generate a new text.

the junefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing that got me thinking about it was the time when Hanle y said, re. football:

- I like when they fall over

, and N. said

- So do we, Hanle y, so do we.

the bellefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Another thing I like is at the start of Try Glasgow More, when RJG says:

- I have an idea

the bluefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

trucker hat.
no more to add.

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

when i posted about leaving notes for teutonic babes

Jon Williams!!!!! (ROFFLE!@!@!@) (ex machina), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

That whole 'banal conversations' thread is my fondest ILX memory. I liked the way you could follow it through your day and it mirrored the real life banal conversations you might have been having, only it was funny.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I never saw it!

the bellefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The best thing about ILX is not having to remember Hanley's drivel.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

My...serene way was poetry, Markelby. Hanle y is a genius!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to link to it PF but apparently 'the server is 40% too busy right now'. Next tme someone asks me to do something I'm going to say 'sorry, I am 29% too busy right now'.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

And of course that would be cheating anyway. We should revive it though.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't recall anything mentioned on this thread so far.

I liked it when... Jesus, I must be able to think of something. Errr... I'll get back to you on that.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

some of Ramosi's long long rants were fantastic, and yes, Hanle y in his pomp was surreal genius

chris (chris), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

most of my ILX moments I'd like to forget.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

When Hanle y called Ally a Charo ripoff, that was funny.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There was some thread at some point on some sex-oriented topic which derailed into Nick Southall posting really disgusting pictures of fishes that I recall enjoying/being horrified by immensely.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole RJG Dan/Ned cocks-in-each-other's-mouth thing was the comic peak of ILX.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

!!!???

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, there's steady Mike to remind me that his tennis threads are things of true gossamer beauty spinning in a vortex of plastic and effluent.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

someone try to reconstruct the tales of matos' stepfather and ally's coworkers!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hanle y Deus should smite Barry for his hateful tounge!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't try it, Jel.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole RJG Dan/Ned cocks-in-each-other's-mouth thing was the comic peak of ILX.
-- Michael Jones (tourajsig...), June 22nd, 2004.

I was going to mention this one, too, Mike!

Homosexual II, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked it when Barry told Jel not to try it

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

and the time the pinefox thought the nipper was otm

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked it when Mark S proposed nominating the Kitten in Pint Glass for future Prime Minister, with voting conducted Big Brother-style, in order to increase participation in parliamentary democracy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh - one thing sticks out. Mark S's construction of an epic story to account for all the Mastermind boxes.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember the man purse? cartoon panties? knee socks?

Our first introduction to DJ Grizz?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked oh no! Fite! Oh no!

and when Dunedin first took over ILX, and they were on about Cookie Glass and Shane something or another.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone mentioned me yet?

CRW (CRW), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The way ILX abandoned its bad-tempered infighting and came together to battle Becky Lucas.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh - one thing sticks out. Mark S's construction of an epic story to account for all the Mastermind boxes.

that's brilliant, where is that?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The meatls idea was nice.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i love it when John Darnielle OWNS both Momus and Calum. he is the Vishnu of owning.

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

The first time Ned says you're a good fellow...

The stuff about the Giant Factory House, that was weird.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a bus?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

oh! that one thread where we were all laughing!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

when Ronan met Pirosmani

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

gurls vs boys or something like that

Tom's vibrator!!!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

When Lixi described the awfulness of her job at A Famous Supermarket. In context, most movingly sad post ever.

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

When Ronan first started posting on ILE, he was on about alt country.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the ILE kitchen message board where it morphed into a giant world-wide virtual house and we kept Paul Morely as a pet in the kitchen and Ally and Tom had sex on one of Alex in NYC's Killing Joke T-shirts.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

When Geeta talked about Japanese Monster Wrestling, that was great.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have a particular fond memory, but I've loved ILE every time some stranger has posted a serious question about health/love/sex/whatever, and even though this really isn't the place to ask and cracking jokes about such questions is easy, people have been considerate enough to post lengthy, sensible answers.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

When Ronan first started posting on ILE, he was on about alt country.

That was funny.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

When we got through almost a whole thread without anyone being rude to anyone else, and I Learned Something As Well.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

S1ocki - just do a search for Mastermind. I fear all the pictures I hosted for it may have disappeared, though. I will try to rectify this some time.

The first time rainy said 'it's this thing' in response to someone asking what something was.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

When I used to be adorable.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked 'Momus judges' - particularly how hot under the collar some people got when he ignored their submitted writings (Nick Southall, I seem to recall)

Bob Six (bobbysix), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Doomie vs Marcello.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

oh for real when gareth found the teddy bear, that was great.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Jel, you're still adorable!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked Gareth's pumpkin wedding too.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

When Rainy was moving and she started a thread with the (do not read if you hate me) thing. I wish Mark S and Rainy would come back.

The old school Jess, Ethan, Anthony IM convo's and the Hugglez.

The IM thread where Nabisco was really rude.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Maypang's 'judge me by my living room'...

more interior design on ilx please

Bob Six (bobbysix), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Jess's Girls^3 thread was better than Big Brother!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

when N became a Panhandler! I never really understood what that was about.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The first Fancy a Pint thread!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

when these silly meta threads never occurred, oh hang on...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the first ILE is going down the dumper thread.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The thread where Gareth used to get those weird postcards, to Edith Laws or something like that.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The first Fancy a Pint thread!
haha yes. If only Tom had not been thirsty that day. What would ILX be like now?

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Wm. Shabbaz freestyle.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

St. Nicholas Ridiculous (Nick A.), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

10 years from now, if you ask me to think back and remember ILE, the first thing I'll come up with is gonna be, "I can't turn my face into a heart." Another vote for Matos's "my mother's stupid ex-husband" thread.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

HELLO! ZOMBIE BLOWJOB!!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

See, I associate that with my real life as much as with ILE!

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Im going to put down... when the word bingo lost its original meaning.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Same for bootyflakes.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

ally's ass as cheeslog as vector of the totality

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Mike's post perplexes me. For a while I thought he was being ironic. I suppose I never saw what he's referring to.

An odd fact, for me, is that I never saw most of the things referred to on here, at least first time they happened. I never knew someone had said 'It's this thing', or why or when.

It's funny how it's hard to remember good things on ilx, when we have all read so much of it.

A post I liked long ago (Dec 2002?) was when JtN said, at length, that ilxors should fight less: he said that robot vs dinosaur was the ilx paradigm and that Momus vs Mark S (form vs content) was archetypal -- and Momus agreed and said it was a brilliant insight!

I liked a thread about gorilla vs chimpanzee where we talked about the Pronconsul and Nabisco pretended he knew all about it, quoting facts off the www (I think).

the pinefox, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember the dan/ned cocks-in-each-other's-mouth thing!

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just searching for that and could find nothing!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I sense a conspiracy.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This is like The People vs. Larry Flynt.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

RJG: I sense that Ned and Dan both have something I don't want. Like their cock's in each other's mouths.

Homosexual II, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF??? Now we only have one cock to share???

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

haha.

I think ned has deleted it, from the archives, or maybe it was andrew.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF??? Now we only have one cock to share???

it's kinda like this:

TheRealJMod (TheRealJMod), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The collapsing new buildings thread was cool, and kinda scary at the same time.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the "Tell me about ten-year-old you" and "Tell me about fourteen-year-old you" threads, because I learned so much more about you guys than I ever could have otherwise. I learned that a great many of you are very strong and brave people and should be very proud of yourselves. I love the "Matos's stupid ex-stepfather" thread because it spawned so many classic stories and phrases; I just had to crack up the other day when I read in an article somewhere that there are eight face shapes a human can have and that one of them is the "heart" face shape. I love the threads that are all about chatter because it's intelligent and inclusive chatter, which is already way better than the chatter everywhere else online. I love the threads that talk about pop culture because they've opened me up to try out all sorts of pop culture-y type things. And I love reading about FAPs, even though it's going to be a long time before I start being able to participate in any of them.

If you were to ask me about specifics, I couldn't tell you. There's just been so much that I've read on here that I can't really pick out specifically one incident. Oh wait. I suppose I could narrow down things to whenever luna gets sassy on one of the TITTWIS threads, whenever Sam talks about life as a teacher in the inner city, whenever Julia posts a little something that ends up being a bon mot, and whenever Tep talks about his food adventures. Okay, still too broad, but that's as narrowed-down as I can get.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, and only being on this forum for less than a month and feeling like Ned, Dan, and Ally were already welcoming me in was fantastic, too. Though that too is a broad sort of rememberance.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I picked that one cos it was so offensively righteous and probably the only ILX thing I've ever laughed out about twice - once at the PC and once in later conversation with Jerry and Mandee. And it reminds me of Mandee in GB.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It's late and I'm battling spyware.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhat more egotistically, Graham's screenshots of my one and only TV appearance.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Whitesnake and women's back dimples.

Any conner smedley thread.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Jay-Z vs Nas! I remember we had to make sure that someone told them the server was moving.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I picked that one cos it was so offensively righteous and probably the only ILX thing I've ever laughed out about twice - once at the PC and once in later conversation with Jerry and Mandee. And it reminds me of Mandee in GB.

Aw, I suddenly really missed you, Mike :(

Homosexual II, Tuesday, 22 June 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i loved the khaki thread in which dan threatened to wear khakis with a red sox patch over the crotch and blinking christmas lights around the patch to a FAP and ally said that she was going to kick him in the balls.

also, the millar pizza christ thread, i wish i was there.

todd swiss (eliti), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember Graham telling us that he'd been mooning over a girl in University and that she was IN THE LIBRARY AT THAT VERY MOMENT, two rows in back of him!! He asked us what he should do. We gave him the by-now-expected smattering of earnest and sarcastic responses. Someone said "don't write "I LOVE YOU" in a giant purple font." Haha although it was probably ruder than that.

He eventually drew a TEXT DIAGRAM of the room he was in, showing where their bodies were in relation to the bookshelves and furniture, and then I think he said he was going to go talk to her. And then... nothing. What had happened?? "Graham: status update please!!" He eventually came back and said that he'd gone over to a bookshelf and pretended to flip through an art book while he figured out his "plan." Then she got up to leave, and his hand was forced - he'd have to just wing it. He timed his exit of the library to coincide with hers, and when the security guard searched his bag he felt embarrassed (?) Afterwards he caught up with her on the sidewalk and said "hi." She kind of dismissively grunted or something, from his point of view. Then he said "well this is a bit weird." And she just kind of scooted off. We were fairly disingenuous about how he shouldn't feel discouraged.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Nicole's post on the Pinefox birthday thread just made me remember that the Pinefox has a "thing" for Hillary Clinton that I've always found, well, mystifying, personally.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Never let us forget Tankpuss. Or the many fantastic images into which it was Photoshopped. Or the head of Gareth, which also appeared in many of these pictures.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The random guy who showed up, started the "recreate album covers from memory in MS Paint" thread and then split

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, the time someone posted a pic of a bear that'd climbed up a power pole, got electrocuted and then fallen off sort of on fire, and someone (Nicole? I cant recall) captioned it "DJ GRIZ, NOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

I wet my pants when I read that.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: god, ET did some fly-by-nighter start that? That thread was monster. I wish I'd not been on dialup, it was such fun.

Yah, it was some guy named alanbanana who showed up, posted a couple picts, and then left us in our insanity.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Evil mang.

He was like the good angel counterpart to the plague of google-inspired idiots.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What about the guy who started a thread about his neighbour's car alarm which kept going off and how it was irritating him, and then someone suggested he should go and rip it off, and he actually did it? If I remember correctly he had to put it in his kitchen sink, underwater, because the alarm sound didn't stop even after he'd detached it from the car.

Of course it might've been just a hoax, but it was an entertaining thread anyhow.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 06:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i think its relly cool that we got together and put out a fucking comp cd.

Sir Chaki McBeer III (chaki), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Tudor ILX, where I declared myself Queen, appointed my own aristocracy and let them fight among themselves (the Eoarl of Clerkenwell vs. the Duke of Harringey vs. the Pretender of Harringay) and the mysterious Spymaster/Witchfinder General kept on popping up and outing Popery. But I would pick that, wouldn't I?

Apostrophe Catastrophe (kate), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Victorian ILX was quite nice.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked it when that guy shouted at that other guy

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

he'd been mooning over a girl in University

she was IN THE LIBRARY AT THAT VERY MOMENT

I'm really surprised this didn't get him kicked out of the library.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Tracer OTM. The Graham library thread was fantastic. Mind you - have you ever met Graham, Tracer?

I have seen few of the threads above otherwise. I quite like the 'who do you fancy' and 'crush' threads. Anything where the Pinefox engages and contributes fully is *Quality*. Ditto JtN. And Norman. I miss Tom and Mark S greatly.

Anything on Of my own contributions I had fun with the ILX challenge thread and was pleased that the banal conversations thread gave me a change to make a star of the 'bacon roll lady.'

the "redirect the Thames and drown Camden" thread was brilliant

chris (chris), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

When we had to blank out the Bangbus thread and redirect it to a scientology website because we were getting the most terrifying random Googlers of all time.

And that time when the guy from Hundred Reasons posted on my Hundred Reasons Why Hundred Reasons Are Shit thread, going "enjoy your day jobs!" That was funny. And the fish in the bucket in Anna's living room.

But I think my favourite moment in ILX history was last November, when Aja asked Gareth why he had a washing machine in his kitchen. The response: "In order to wash my clothes". Amazingly, her bewilderment continued.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Amazingly"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I also liked the thread where you were supposed to get your mom to post to ILE, and someone's mom actually did! I guess it wasn't that surprising, but it was still kinda cool. Can you imagine your mom reading all the stuff you post here?

Thank God my mom doesn't know anything about computers.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

1. The Gothfynder thread(s) were (was?) good.

2. The Doc's impressions are possibly the most impressive thing I have seen on ilx.

3. The one where Graham asked why people didn't like him, and got many responses and much advice, c. summer 2001 (?) - that was kind of interesting. I had forgotten Graham.

4. The times Robin C stormed off and said he was never returning!

5. 'Do You Believe In Magic?' - that was a good thread.

6. The time that Geordie Racer said that if he had a guitar in his hands, he could transport us anywhere in the world.

the pinefox, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the bits when you first get the impression that a New Poster is actually going to be a really great addition to ILX. There are too many to mention, obv, but it makes me warm.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd forgotten Geordie Racer - him and Norm Phay combined to make the NE of England into a surreal playground - made me even want to *go there* sometimes. Has GR ever returned to ILM under other guises? Sometimes I think I see him there.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Doc is spot on about the NE FX.

I also liked it every time GR talked about Newcastle United, cementing his overall Geordieness.

the bellefox, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Marcello is the Xander of ILX.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it when Farrell attacks!

the bellefox, Wednesday, 23 June 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Has there ever been a Marcello vs Momus thread?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember when the Dunedin tourism board said that to all of NZ. It was a heavy scene.

I am not a mandible (Barima), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Tracer Hand's story (a prole funny) with the receptionist which I wouldn't dare paraphrase because it is perfect.

It was good the time Cozen was going on about whether to see the Fiery Furnaces, and it became a debate about the role of appearance in pop, and I missed the argument and it was over by the time I came back.

the bellefox, Monday, 28 June 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the time I started a "100 britpop tracks" thread with one suggestion, and when I came back from lunch (less than an hour) the thread was done!

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 28 June 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Momus on Posterity meeting Paddy McAloon on the c64 thread.

I remember the time when the board's ire with momus crystallised on starting his famous 'home truths' thread. anthony told him to fuck off and suzy said a less magnanimous poster would have left after that.

mark c got annoyed by commas.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 28 June 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I met John Peel's wife at Sonar - but not him, was too shy. He has a *ton* of kids, yet she is tiny.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 28 June 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa, how did you piss off spencer?

bnw (bnw), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember that too! I have a new and better understanding of you though, so I doubt it will happen again.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

you had to be there, bnw.

incidentally, as I just told adam, I have to rescind most of my comments re: ceasar (except I still don't think it was a good recommendation for those guys), as I really liked it the last time I was in there (well I still hate most of the clientele, but the owner was very nice and totally got in a fight with some jackass lawyer who worked there. It was great!)

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved the thread where someone asked if we thought that, when Axl Rose welcomed us to jungle, he was really being sincere, or whether we thought it was just a half-hearted invitation. All of it was great, but my favourite part was when some guy suggested: "hey, maybe 'the jungle' is a metaphor. Maybe he really means THE ZOO!"

There was this time when someone gave an impassioned and ultra-erudite breakdown of why homosexuality is useful in nature, stating that it had something to do with homosexual members of different species being able to help raise children, defend the females when the other males go off to hunt, etc...and then mark s added "also nicer curtains and so on"

Nabisco laid down some serious science on that indie playboy thread.

I don't think that we even need to mention Conner Smedley, it goes without saying.

Melissa W talking about how she never answers e-mails and Blount going "you so crazy". That totally made me wish they had their own sitcom (this was quite recent, wasn't it?)

Nicole admitting to liking corny indie bands, N. going "haha" and Nicole posting that "ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME" pic.

I have a lot of fond memories of the great threads that I found when I first came here: there's a great one about race, and another one started by Jody about subjectivity (both sadly tainted by my contribuitons - and I'm not being in some sort of "aw shucks" compliment-fishing mode here either, if anyone happens upon those, PLEASE IGNORE MY POSTS.)

Does anyone still remember the pink ILX? Those were the days...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man!

I remember that night (in my mind I call it The Funnest Night on the Internet) when everyone started posting pictures in the What Do You Look Like thread of themselves pointing to other ILX posters' pictures and it was fun and me and Ken were iming and I was giggling at my monitor all night.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember a pink ilx.

I liked it when people were talking about Nader and Gore, once, in about ... 2002.

The pink ILX existed only for a couple of hours, anyone who wasn't here at that time missed it.

I remember when I desperately needed a picture of a bear with a candle up it's arse, so I started a thread about it, and within a couple of hours some kind soul actually photoshopped such a pic for me. That was nice.

Okay, it was a month ago, but I think I'll never forget it.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 21 January 2006 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

I also remember, back in 2003, I was reading some IMDb message board where people were discussing about some movie, and they were horrified that in the movie there was a scene where a daughter sees her mom naked, and I found that discussion kinda odd, so I started a thread called "What's the deal with Americans and nudity?", or something. Anyway, the discussion was long and I was probably acting a bit condescending there, being a relatively new poster, and I think that was where people got the idea that I live in some sort of ultra-liberal Scandinavian paradise, which isn't quite true.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 22 January 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

That last post is remarkable! I like teddies.

I was thinking of how good it was on ILM one time when we were discussing the Smiths' 'Panic', and Ewing wrote something on some other site where he said that the Pinefox had in effect described it as a 'revolutionary fantasia'. That was a fine phrase, and not mine at all - no, that bustle of language was all Ewing's own.

i liked it when you didn't know where hoxton was

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 6 March 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

I think I have never been!

But I think that Kate the Saint said that it was North of the City, so that gives me some guidance, in thinking about it.

Today, in the post, I received a paper called THE LONDONER, which featured an artist's impression of a new tube station that will be called 'Hoxton' (in orange letters), on the East London Line!

Also: I remember now that for a very long time I did not know where Brixton was. I mostly know, now - it is in South London, to the West of South-East London.

the pinefox, Monday, 6 March 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

i very much enjoyed that time 2 years ago when glastonbury tickets were on sale but the ticket buying mechanism was buggered and a thread called "glastonbury ticket sale cancelled" april fools thread became a group therapy/support/help group that went to 1000+ posts in a day and the eventual discovery of "freya", the saviour of all.

I remember how we looked at the embryo in the jar together
And I remember how we stood talking in the store to each other
It was love
But what is it now
It’s pain
I remember your face and I remember your grace
I remember, I remember, I just remember
And I remember how we laughed at the jokes that we had between us
And I remember how we talked and mocked each other blatantly
It was fun
But what is it now
It’s pain
And I remember how you smiled
And that light that was in your eyes
And I remember how pretty you were always a pleasant surprise
It was nice
But what is it now
It’s pain
I remember your face and I remember your grace
I remember, I remember, I just remember
And I remember you at the funeral shaking hands and hanging coats
And I remember you standing pregnant at the art room
It was weird
But what is it now
It’s pain
I remember your face and I remember your grace
I remember, I remember, I just remember
When I saw you at the department store
I said “have a nice baby”
You were standing happy, I left you with that smile on your face
Years later I was hitchhiking and that mortician picked me up
Then he said to me, he said “good luck”
I remember how we looked at the embryo in the jar together
And I remember how we stood talking in the store to each other
It was love
But what is it now
It’s pain

The thing I remember most was when someone whose name I've forgotten said Klimt's paintings now made her sad because she loved them when she was young and grew up to find that that depth of tenderness didn't exist in real life.

one year passes...

I remember when Gear told us that his co-worker of small stature had gotten him into trouble by telling another co-worker that Gear finds her hot (or something), even though it was actually a different co-worker he found hot (I think), and then people were asking if Gear had a pic of the hot co-worker, but he didn't, and them someone said that, hey, Australian Kate is a great artist, maybe Gear could describe the co-worker to her, and she could draw a picture of her, so Gear did that and Kate posted the resulting picture in the thread. That was real teamwork!

Tuomas, Monday, 23 February 2009 13:27 (sixteen years ago)
