Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

will they be adding players to teams as they are signed? doesn't seem wise to pick a team this far in advance

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You can change your team as much as you like before the seaon starts. So if any new players get signed you can change.

Davel (Davel), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

excellent, let's get the ILX league set up then...just deciding my team name and kit now...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i want jel to call his team Partizan Jelgrade

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Team selected has soimeone set up the league or shall I?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Go on.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I set up ILx Invitational as a league name

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The question is, are you an old fuddy-duddy or a Portuguese man o'war?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in! But my team is crap, will have to tinker with it some time

Davel (Davel), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve don't pick Kanoute - I don't think he and Santini see eye to eye, he's behind Keane and Defoe in the pecking order and he's been crap since he stopped being French anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

1: Kiely
2: Cunningham
3: Dodd
5: Terry

13: Samuel
14: Borrowdale

Ed (dali), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

well i already have picked him but yes i was aware of potential problem. Heskey is an option and it's only 0.5 for Defore anyway but plenty of time to change. Ronaldo's down as injured but depending on when he's fit again I can see myself swapping Scholes for him too.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronaldo's at the Olympics for the start of the season, innit?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Being laughed at by Greeks, probably.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:15 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm Robben in for Scholes? then Defoe for Kanoute? am wary of picking Chelsea midfielders (apart from Franky obv.)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ok Scholes out Malbranque in, Barton out Lazaridis in, Kanoute out Keane in - that's better

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the main five Chelsea midfielders (Lampard, Makelele, Duff, Robben, Tiago) will all get a fair crack of the whip this season and play most of the games. Although Duff's injured, unsurprisingly.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

he's the new Sick Note

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

so, we think limited appearances for cole and parker then?

.:@:.: (gareth), Thursday, 22 July 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I can see Parker edging out Makelele if he impresses.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway - Fantasy Fanny Dangle: Niemi, Upson, Ferreira, Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard, A Svensson, Van Nistelrooy, Defoe, Yakubu.

Plus a load of cheap shit on the bench and NO GOONERS!

i nearly called my team Danny Fanglers

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

um, the code for the league isn't working (for me)...

i am the "grecian earns" this year, for pretty obv reasons :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, just me, i think you have to type it in rather than just copying and pasting for an unknown reason...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i copied and pasted ok, maybe you had a rogue   - no matter

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S ON.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

aiming for European place this season after dour midtable dogfight last time round (so yes relegation then) - Ruud ought to do better, perhaps the selection of Baros is misguided given the suggestion the only reason he flourished at Euro 2004 was because of long injury and lack of club games...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm hoping to carry on with the form shown during euro 2004

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 July 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone's gotta be in last place so it might as well be:

Who cares about the score when you got such stylish uniforms.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 22 July 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a shame you can specify uniforms with rings rather than stripes.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 July 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

no green either, i wanted to have norwich kit innit

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

A Right Haimes FC is in. Our kit is lovely, and my team will, like a certain ring I've read about, rule you all.

Friedel; Samuel Cunningham Melchiot; Malbranque Lampart Juninho Wright-Phillips; Saha Yakuba Ferdinand.

Last year, my brother and children entered teams, but that was because I was the league administrator. Is it cool to do that again, or is this just to be a league for ILX regulars? (NB: Emma and Sammy's "The Hastalavistas" were #12 I think, and Tim's "10 Uppity Street" were also top half of the table, despite neither of them making any substitutions all year long.)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 22 July 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Begs2, please don't let the kids play this year, it's embarrassing...

(i joke, of course)

also the grecian earns aren't actually set up yet, that is just the randomly generated team, honest.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I was tempted by Rommedahl as well but just ran out of money. Him or Barry, anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

haha last season i became obssessed with overtaking each of the Cibulas in turn

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

and you FAILED! ugly americans ruled yoooo

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Lucky Duckies and The Destroyers are in.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 22 July 2004 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

not overly sure about horse-boy, might give him a game or two and then think about drafting saha in...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 23 July 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

what about Alan Smith? going to be interesting to see the battle between those three, i would expect Ruud will come up trumps tho, he should have a better season than last time. i've gone of Owen, Henry and Keane for now tho.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Not Alan "I'll never go to Manyoo" Smith?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I reckon Smith and Van Nistelrooy will be the first choice strike force with Smith feeding the ball through to the horse, and Saha coming off the bench a fair bit.

Although this leaves Paul Scholes in an interesting position seeing as he's to all intents and purposes been secondary striker for the past couple of seasons.

Last night, I had a dream that Paul Scholes had been murdered, incidentally. Stabbed outside the Grove Park Sainsbury's (which I'm not sure even exists).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

last night i was called a Paul Scholes of...web design

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

And you were happy about that?

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i think so yes

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 23 July 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know you dyed your hair steve.

Porkpie (porkpie), Friday, 23 July 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst part is spending 2 hours in a vertical vice every morning

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 23 July 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Scholesian web design conjures images of unexpected pop-ups and text running into boxes.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Saturday, 7 August 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope Robbie can show some real leadership qualities this season, I'm relying on him to hold the midfield together.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 8 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

best team name ever :)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 8 August 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Subs: Green, BenHaim, McFadden Clement

Joe Kay (feethurt), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I may have to drop Ruud now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 8 August 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, my team is: Sorensen, Matteo, G. Neville, Woodgate, Mellberg, Upson, Lampard, Scholes, Di Canio, Defoe, Henry (C); subs Berthelin, Fernandes, Safri, Gregan. Poor subs, but a strong first 11, I think. This season my eye troubles won't keep me from swapping out long-term-injured players, so I expect an improvement on my dismal showing last time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 August 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

bump

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Out go Owen and Fowler, in come A Smith and Defoe...I've changed this team a dozen times and the Premiership hasn't even kicked off yet (just as well)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really see the point in picking decent subs in this game - why not just spend the money getting the best first XI possible?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

because inevitably louis saha will kick some sucka in da troat and i'll have the little red i to deal with for three weeks while he's being stropped...who's gonna help me then? probably some chancer from crystal palace for 4.5 pounds, that's who

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree Matt DC, my bench is all Baggies, Canaries and Eagles as a result

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The irritating thing for me, thinking much the same way as Matt, was the modest difference between say the tenth highest priced player and the tenth lowest priced player. Surely we expect a top international Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal player to outscore a Crystal Palace reserve by a much bigger margin than the prices suggest? I also kind of think that midfielders tend to underscore, except the very attacking ones - the likes of Viera, Keane and Makalele should be scoring some defensive points as well.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

my subs are all scrubs.
i'm playing five midfielders
and all three strikers

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope this squad doesn't betray my inexperience too much.

1: Howard (C)
2: Southgate
3: Mellberg
4: Upson
5: Unsworth
6: Lampard
7: Malbranque
8: Barry
9: Nolan
10: Cisse
11: Phillips
12: Kiely
13: Charlton
14: Gregan
15: Nemeth

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

good squad but you might wanna check on your guys...if the little "i" is red that means dude is injured or suspended. upson and malbranque i think, better bench them until they're back.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't subs done automaticaly?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Thx! Just Malbranque, actually. And I'll watch him closely. Groin problem. He can suck it up and play.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be an xpost.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

The rule I don't like is the one about anybody deemed to have an 'outstanding game' gets an extra 3 points. Who's judging this? I suspect it means that I should have overrated press darlings like Lampard/Gerrard/Alan Smith in my team, because even if they play rubbish they'll still get 3 points. The fun of these games should be picking players who are under the radar screen of received wisdom, but keep getting assists and goals.

Joe Kay (feethurt), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

That is an excellent question. I wondered the same thing. I think God decides.

mcd (mcd), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I have faith in D-Force.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah subs are automatic but if you're not careful about your sub order you can be screwed there

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Explain please, pretty please.

With a cherry on top.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well you order your subs to make sure the right ones come off the bench first: 13, 14, 15. if you have a bench-sitter selected before a player you'll get the scrub not the sub.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I am beginning to worry about my loyalty to Folly and Aki i.e. with the injuries to Big Micky, Nobby and Van Nistelrooy my first week line-up is looking fucking ropey.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

But you get loads of pre-season transfers!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah my whole lineup
has changed twice over so far!
but now it is ACE

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

the extra ratings are based on official OPTA match stats i thought.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 10 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

so if i have a player that is unavailable for a game does he get automatically replaced by a substitute? or will i have to specify this?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

automatic based on the order of subs you select

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

and if you have more than three starting players injured then the fourth/fifth/etc. injured player(s) originally in the starting XI will stay there but get no points.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but like... would it be clever enough to swap a MIDFIELDER with a MIDFIELDER? even if it's position 15?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

like, if 13 and 14 were a GOALKEEPER and a DEFENDER?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

no, you decide yr formation and yr order of subs, if the order doesn't correspond with yr formation it changes the formation, stands to reason innit

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

You can make one transfer a week though, remember, so you can just transfer in a good player of equivalent value rather than a shitey cheap sub though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

of course, butthat's a transfer not a sub innit ;o)

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

oh dear, I seem to have found an English language free fantasy footie game for La Liga. I may have to do this, unfortunately you can't set up the teams yet, but El gran Chorizo awaits

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i know bugger all about La Liga really but I'll play - I want that guy from Valladolid in!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, now I have to replace Di Canio in my team.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

you may want to look at Woodgate and Upson as well Martin

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no what's wrong with Upson? Arggghh

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought he was injured?

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

does not appear to be. ooh the site's changed colours and stuff - the hour draws near...and Gareth has still not entered...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is the Spic one, Porky?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

http://uk.superliga.fantasysports.yahoo.com/

but it's not set up yet for the new season, looking like next week apparently

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

this is getting dumb, I'm really liking the look of the Guardian's Fantasy chairman thing

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Whew. Sorted it all out - switched Big Micky for Big Claus, Van Nistelrooy for Drogba, Nobby for Nolan, then got rid of Amoruso and Huckerby cos I felt like it and put Johnson and Hreidarsson in instead. Feeling much better now.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

when does Fantasy Ballboy/Tea Lady start?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

P - it does look fun, but it does also cost a fiver.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, but all the detail pages are so pretty and well organised, plus I kind of like the concept

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

32 teams! there should be a Champions League format as well...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god no stevem don't do it...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

A Right Haimes FC is now: Saha Cisse Drogba up front, Wright-Phillips Pennant Boateng Lampard Cisse in midfield, Melchiot Bernard in back, Sorenson in goal. Let the relegation begin!

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Normally, this is where I'd be talking smack, but since I'm new to the Premier league I'll defer to the more experienced.

final first XI for start:

Defoe

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 13 August 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

We should give a prive for the best kits. I think the American teams got it locked up though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 13 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem's team looks pretty useful.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

My team now lines up as:

Niemi
Upson
Ehiogu
Lampard
Gerrard
Scholes
Barry
Konchesky
Henry (C)
Defoe
Yakubu

Henry. On my team. As my captain. I feel so dirty.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 13 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Also useful, esp. impressed by your getting three England international midfielders into one team. i was tempted by Yakubu too.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Saturday, 14 August 2004 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

And the first goal of the campaign goes to...

Cisse (Liverpool) (assist Baros?)

This is all jolly exciting, I must say.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 14 August 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i fancy a clean sheet for Chelsea today too - worried Henry and Pires won't play full 90 now :(

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Sunday, 15 August 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Second! Who is Adrian B btw?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 15 August 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf? The auto-selection on this thing had me playing a Hearts-style 5-4-1 formation. Mental.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Sunday, 15 August 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Jel, I'm AdrianB. Longtime lurker, very occasional poster. Couldn't resist pitting my wits against the might of ILX. Natch.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 23 August 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

DON'T FORGET round 3 of football is from tomorrow night, and also that manu, liverpool, portsmouth and everton (i think?) aren't playing although manu and everton are playing two games in next weeks round (bludy annoying champ league qualifiers...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 23 August 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers Steve I'm gonna make my first transfer now

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 23 August 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't do that bad last week even with Everton not playing, Ferguson suspended and Campbell-Ryce loaned out. Though I got no clue how you opened a 40 point gap in three weeks you cheeky monkey.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

so many teams have the same players, it's gonna be much tighter than last season i think.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i have some special players for the coming week and they're all going to kick ass!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 27 August 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

146,696 people can't be wrong about Henry.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i am in the global top 500

Gravesen replaces Wright-Phillips this weekend - i expect SWP will score and assist now.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, cause I swooped in for him to replace Campbell-Ryce (with some points from the previous transfers saved).

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

56.3% of players have henry in their squad, 870 punters have SUBBED HIM OUT!!! menks...

i have found myself watching MOTD just to see how my fantasy players are doing, rather than being particularly interested in the matches...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

hitzlsperger passed up two great chances on goal the other night :(

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It was worse for me. Kishishev got two assists - and I had him on the bench. J'Lloyd Samuel started instead. Oh dear.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm reasonably pleased with my current 7th place. Scholes and Gary Neville are on zero for me so far, which surprises me. That will change, I expect.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure how worthwhile a player Paul Konchesky is for my team at the moment, but I can't think of anyone of equivalent value to replace him with. Except perhaps Timmy Atouba and I know too well not to put any faith in Spurs players.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, just think, you could get .2 more points to transfer around if you sub him out now.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty happy with sixth so far, decided to make Smith my captain this week as Man U play twice, which means he probably won't play and Henry will score four or something.

Davel (Davel), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

that's "thimee" matt.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I just looked and Henry has got 42.2% of my points so far.

Davel (Davel), Friday, 27 August 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember the last time i removed the armband from Henry thinking he would not play. He scored seven goals in two games. I'm not making that mistake again, despite Smith being likely to feature twice this round.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You could bring Smith on for anyone - the formations are not fixed. Henry always seems the wrong man to drop.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 August 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

you might wanna check on your guys...if the little "i" is red that means dude is injured or suspended

Wayne Bridge had a little red "i" by him this morning so I dropped him. He's now playing, but Chelski have already conceded a goal. DON'T TRUST THE LITTLE RED "i"s THOUGH.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 August 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Great goal from Wright-Phillips!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 28 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i knew it was wrong to swap him for Gravesen...

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Saturday, 28 August 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
gah, due to general fecklessness AGAIN i have my goalie (kiely) playing against one of my strikers (phillips) tonight...

adrianb is doing very well there, well done :)

this week is the first week henry hasn't scored in double figures...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 September 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry has 10pts this week from what I can see.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 September 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

only if he is your captain tho

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 13 September 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, durr.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 September 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

cheers for that. it was the Villa vs Chelski match which did it. 0-0 was the dream result. bit miffed Defoe didn't score yesterday tho.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 13 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

there are almost more reasons to cheer for 0-0s, esp if you have defenders from both sides, the points are as good as for goals...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

In our Torygraph fantasy league my flatmate was fielding a back five of Given, Hyppia, Ferreira, Barry and King. The fucker.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a back four matt, shurely?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

For some reason Barry is classed as a defender. And is therefore a pretty tidy point scorer as he gets loads of attacking and defensive points.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

no but still, there are five players in a back four innit...

goalie don't count...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 13 September 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Watch Parlour get sent off and Palace upset Fulham to screw me over this week after todays games.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 2 October 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

dammit why did Pires have to be rested?

Brigadier Rainham Steele, Mrs (blueski), Monday, 4 October 2004 09:16 (twenty-one years ago)

What exactly possessed me to drop Yakubu in favourite of Henrich Pedersen? Oh yeah, Harry Redknapp telling everyone who would listen that he was going to drop him. Bastard.

That transfer cost me four points as well and now Gareth is ahead of me.

I am seriously considering dropping my entire midfield and filling up entirely on Spurs and Chelsea defenders. Lampard in particular doesn't look like he'll be the same goal machine this season.

Idiot Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

no but Lampard is getting 7 pts every game which is pretty good for someone who's only scored one so far.

Brigadier Rainham Steele, Mrs (blueski), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Wahey! After an indifferent August and an improving September, Sparta Redcliffe welcome the onset of the proper, cold, wet, windy, muddy season with a stonking 75 points, and a leap to the dizzy heights of, err, 9th.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Monday, 4 October 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yes, Dennis Rommedahl's really been justifying his inclusion... particularly when it keeps Aki on the bench. And Aki scores. Grr. So now, after fuck knows how many transfers and points away:

Martyn
(Green)

Samuel
Hreidarsson
Knight
(Kishishev)
(Hunt)

Routledge
Riihilahti
Ljungberg
Gravesen
(Atouba)

Henry
Reyes
Johnson

Yes, that's three Palace players in the starting line-up. Bouncebackability, innit. IFK find themselves 21st, 133 points off the lead. Inevitability, innit.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The FF website is great. I love the way it updates the points per player more or less in real-time. I have a frantic few moments around the 60th minute of a game when I hear on the radio that a sub is warming up, and depending on whether the player to be replaced is on my team or on a rival team, I'm contesting every free-kick or throw-in decision for those crucial extra appearance points.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

and don't forget TEH GRAPHS, which are marvy.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

also swygart, get back to being perved on by final year students ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

every time i sell a player (first Wright-Phillips, now Pires) they get their biggest gameweek score of the season straight after. can we call this Mannion's Law?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm, i think the website's a little wobbly today, none of the players have any stats next to their little pictures...

...also they don't seem to hav eupdated the injury doo-dah, kevin philips is out for three weeks apparently.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone have Henry, Pires AND Jimmy Floyd Piggybaink in their team this week? You would've cleaned up if you had...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

the dreamteam of the week has FOUR MIDDLESBOROUGH PLAYERS in, what is the world coming to?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i appear to have just bought Darren Huckerby...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Zat Knight. Grr.

Saints' current first-team strikeforce has a combined age of 36.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

that's also the number of players they have injured

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It is terribly generous of us to be providing so much entertainment for everyone else...

Sentence that roughly sums up oru injury crisis from the Saints' website: In the absence of Jason Dodd, Matthew Oakley, James Beattie and Claus Lundekvam, Andreas Jakobsson was named as skipper. That'd be our vice-vice-vice captain, then.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve your transfer policy would put Freddie Shepherd to shame.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the problem was Pires was too expensive to keep as he's not been playing every 90 mins and you never know when Wenger's gonna rest him. by the same token Reyes is also a problem but i expect him to score more goals overall so he can stay. Huckerby is one of the few strikers in the Premiership to have played a full 90 minutes in every game so far this season.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

BOUNCEBACKABILITY! (i.e. the more you ignore Wayne Routledge, the better he gets...)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 23 October 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Gudjohnsen= 34 points this week. I figured he'd pay off sooner or later.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Saturday, 23 October 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay, AJ keeps Sparta Redcliffe in the chase for a UEFA Cup place...

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 30 October 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 30 October 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(Not that I expect it to last till quarter to five)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 30 October 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Thierry's scored now!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 30 October 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 30 October 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Portsmouth - England's Premier South Coast Club !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 30 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Unsworth is saving my penalty missing captian's bacon this week.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 30 October 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Andy Johnson is making up for Thierry's missing va-va-woom. Just.

I toyed with the idea of transferring Rooney for Gudjohnson this week, but decided against it. Bah.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 30 October 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Smith, you numpty!

-1 points. Just as well I didn't have him as captain this week.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 7 November 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

WHAT A FANTASTIC WEEK TO PUT AKI RIIHILAHTI ON THE BENCH IN FAVOUR OF HAVING TWO CHARLTON DEFENDERS INSTEAD.

Grr.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The last couple of weeks, I keep thinking I should drop Rooney. I keep not doing it, because I figure the week I drop him, he'll score loads. What's happened to Thierry? He was my guaranteed points-bagger...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 7 November 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i know, he's still top points scorer overall though (lampard 19 points behind is second). i don't think i'm escaping mid-table mediocrity this season though...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I KNEW Liverpool weren't going to score, but I made the mistake of putting a Fulham defender infront of my Man City defender in the sub order.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry is still scoring a goal a game, its just that everyone with any sense has him in there anyway so it makes no difference to the overall table.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay, the introduction of Gravesen via the automatic substitution rule keeps Sparta Redcliffe in the hunt. For, err, mid-table mediocrity.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, if only i'd made baros my captain...

still, 76 points in a week isn't to be sniffed at and the grecian earns could be pushing for a place in europe yet...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i've now bought Robben so don't expect him to score again all season

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep thinking I should drop Rooney. I keep not doing it, because I figure the week I drop him, he'll score loads.

Yes, I kept him :)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Meanwhile, IFK's continued run of shit luck with South London Scandinavians continues. We finally drop Hreidarsson to the bench... and Charlton keep a clean sheet, and he gets an assist.

But wait! Andy Johnson didn't play on Saturday! Oh, hang on, we've put Hermann behind Nicky Hunt in the pecking order. Bollocks.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, my automatic sub thing put in Gera, which gave me a whole one point. I should pay more attention to my subs, I just keep assuming that all my players will play and I won't need them.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

why has Reyes turned so shit?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

shit? he's still scoring points isn't he? also are you seriously asking that with darren huckerby still in your squad? alsoalso, are you complaining DESPITE BEING SCOND????

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

SECOND

not

SCONED

by the way...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

D'oh. Reyes dropped to the bench after I gambled on a triumphal return to goal-scoring form and made him captain.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 20 November 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

What a fantastic week to sign John Terry.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Some Norwich player called Francis I signed without ever having heard of has scored twice and moved me up to third place. I like this.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 21 November 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be the same Norwich player who has just broken his cheekbone. Back to the drawing board...

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Friday, 26 November 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

haha that francis person got subbed on last week when ronaldo didn't play and WOOT he scored two, what a man.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 26 November 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

they were saying on the news that henry might not play this week, but i think it is a CUNNING PLAN by news people to get everyone to sub him so they end up at the top of their fnatasy leagues...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 26 November 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

He will play when Arsenal inevitably go 1-0 down.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 26 November 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

was reyes injured from the last game? (he got stretchered off)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 26 November 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

He seems to be alright now:

http://www.physioroom.com/news/table_current.shtml

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Friday, 26 November 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

ok i've just made lampard my captain, time for thierry to have a bit of a rest i reckon.

also lundekvam has left on a free as he has been rub this season, come on jaidi bag a couple more from set pieces, theres a good lad ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 26 November 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

also i am THIRD in my other league, which i always forget about. it could be because it is a league for exeter city fans and they get nosebleeds thinking about the premiership...

...hold on, what's that red stuff coming out of my nasal passage...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 26 November 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

So guess who transferred Alonso thinking Liverpool didn't have a chance again the Arse, then?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 28 November 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

guess who sold huckerby last week?

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Sunday, 28 November 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

IDIOT STEVEM.

I am jealous of anyone with John Terry in their team. Hugeness!

Although I'm creeping up on the Top 10, and could well overhaul Gareth and Ken shortly (hah, famous last words).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

IDIOT STEVEM

he'd been playing on the fucking left wing anyway (attention Sven!) - but wouldn't have got the extra points a scoring midfielder would as he's listed as a striker

now have Henry, Earnshaw and Rooney upfront - can't afford Terry or Cech, hope Henry gets crocked for the season as that could really liven the league up

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

you can spot the people who left henry as captain this week, they've all got 10-15 points less this week, well done franky lamps...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the last time i stripped Henry of the captaincy he scored seven goals in two games.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Thierry rather let us lot down this week - still, at least Terry, Aki, AJ and The Third Most Exciting Wayne In English Football steadied the ship a bit. And I finally got shot of Hreidarsson too. Happy days. Vaguely.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
The leading group appear to be out of reach, but the league-within-a-league fight for a UEFA Cup place remains a compelling contest:

10 gasheadsagain Martin Skidmore 958
11 Real So-so-sad Ailsa Watson 958
12 Dynamo Keith David Malthouse 956
13 Sparta Redcliffe Snnap Dragon 956

If only I'd had Mr Riise as captain today....

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 26 December 2004 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I have Riise in my Telegraph team and briefly considered dropping him during the week. I am very happy I didn't. Dropping Riise would have been a clanger on behalf of forgetting to put Defoe back in my ILX team last Saturday. Which I did. Fuckwit.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 27 December 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

10th to 13th is never uefa cups places, it's solid mid-table ;)

hurrah for me making gerrard captain though :) i'm coming for you porkypie-man!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 27 December 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

flipping 'eck i didn't realise baros had missed a pen...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 27 December 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Just two points behind Steve M now. As Fergie would say, it's squeaky bum time.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i nearly made Gerrard my captain but no. Rooney is shite, come back Huckerby all is forgiven...

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that 11th spot is mine for the rest of the season due to my unfortunate habit of always picking the wrong captain. Doomed to be just outside the top 10 forever. Luckily I changed my goalie this week, spying a decent opportunity for Friedel to keep a clean sheet. Should have made him captain :(

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 28 December 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

bah, no chance of me catching chris this week, in fact as he has henry as his captain he'll get slightly further away...

also baros is *still* not showing as being injured, grrr

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Mr Wenger,

I am writing to ask whether Thierry can be excused for tonight's game. It will be very cold in Newcastle and he will have to wear two pairs of gloves and put up with listening to that horrible Mr Souness getting upset and shouting and weeping. And everyone knows Newcastle are rubbish, and the rest of your team will easily score five goals.

Thank you

Mrs Henry

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrah for Lampard's score doubling mysteriously since late last night

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Grrrrr... that's soooooooooo unfair!

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Wednesday, 29 December 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Today I am being pleased that Alan Stubbs didn't play, thereby saving me from the crap points that would follow from a defender letting in five goals and being automatically replaced by Gera who actually scored. Huzzah. Unfortunately I forgot to change my goalkeeper back to a better one. Bah.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 2 January 2005 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

That was a hideously worded first sentence, and I do apologise.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 2 January 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Second place is mine! Probably only for one night, so I have to milk it while I can.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

wahey back to almost top 10

ken c (ken c), Monday, 3 January 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

sam allardyce and martin jol are *totally* off my xmas card list, how can spurs score 5 and defoe not even be on the pitch?????? why replace jaskeliennan (sp? ;)) at a moments notice????

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm, should've bought Todd not Hreidarsson. will probably miss out on 6 points for Clement's clean sheet against Newcastle unless someone else in my team is rested. doweth.

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

phew, Anelka not playing so i should get that 6pts now...

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah. Last week I dropped the underperforming Leon Osman and guess who just scored in the 90th minute?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Even so, a quick burst up the table and I'm now lying 7th, only two points behind Carsmile. I like this game :)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Though this will change tomorrow when the automatic substitutions go in, and I get one measly point for Gera.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Not second any more. Should have milked it more.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.geocities.co.jp/Hollywood-Studio/4671/index/nelson01.gif

Frankenstein On Ice (blueski), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Reyes for Beattie and next week Pistone for Gallas (since Beattie would bring my Everton content up to 4). I know its not going to work but Deportivo L'Acadie is slipping from the respectable into midtable.

My defenders scored more then my strikers this week. BAH.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Just done a bit of tweaking with the ahem, less glamorous bit of my team. Savage and Job out, Carsley and Heskey in.

Kiss of death.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

good boy, i was purposefully leaving my fiddling as late as possible and nearly forgot! is defoe fit/playing yet?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes to both. And he will score a cracker against Chelsea just to impress that nice Mr Abramovich.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

good. also baros has gone up by 0.1 thus i can't easily transfer him back in...

i've given fwank the armband this week though.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent. That'll be a hat trick for Thierry then.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Gravesen out and Osman in gives us £2.2m in the bank to buy a defender that isn't utter cowslip.

Arjen has our armband at present. Considering giving it to AJ instead...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

hello, has anyone else bought Dean Marney yet?

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 14 January 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I bought Marney after he scored two against Everton, he's my 1st choice sub now.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 14 January 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Plenty of cash still in the kitty for the league leaders. Bit like Chelski really.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 14 January 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Dean Marney will never have another game like that ever again. I remember when Mbuelo Mabizela scored that cracking goal early last season and then... nothing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 January 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know, i have a good feeling about him. he could be the new Danny Cadmarteri! anyway he's dirt cheap so it's worth a punt (esp. as i replaced WBA's Sakiri with him).

Stevem On X (blueski), Friday, 14 January 2005 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

damien francis keeps getting himself subbed on my team only on the weeks when he scores goals, i like him! he's now earned himself a regular spot on the team. svensson is pwned.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 14 January 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

And the transfer budget springs into action - Jaidi out, Rio in. Aki was injured, and the possibility of a Bolton defender being subbed in gave me intense fear.

I still have Huckerby up front. Not sure why exactly.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 14 January 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Wahey, Frankie gets second!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 15 January 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

When I got shot of Gravesen this week, I was going to get rid of one of my lower priority subs for the cheapest guy in the pool to see if I could afford Shaun W-P. But decided against it. More fool me.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 15 January 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

just once, could the person I've designated as captain get a goal? or two, or something? please? I'm not asking for much, god damn it, I'm like last in the standings, I have no hope of staying in the league. I'd just like one moment of happiness.

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 15 January 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

And the Lampardians celebrate as the Henryetters stumble.

How on earth some of you afford both of them, I don't know.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 15 January 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

You are just bitter because I have both and I overtook you today! Henry is hugely underperforming, yet I am scared to drop him because the week I do he will score loads and be great (see also Andy Johnson).

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I need rid of Huckerby... Rio didn't play today for some reason. But then again, neither did Jaidi, which is alright. I think I need to make Terry captain, cos no bugger out of my lot ever scores.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 16 January 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

good old frank, i'm glad he did come good on saturday, as the rest of my team were PISH. as it was i went from 6th to 8th...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

you spawny get - i had a feeling Lampard would do something but stuck with Henry out of ph3ar. i've bought not one but two strikers this week!

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm back in the top 10! my genius plot of subbing in CHEAP roy carroll paid off so well - he's had clean sheets for weeks now!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

if i could afford lampard i could be pwning :\

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i've had enough of gerrard too, finally got round to putting swp in the team...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a good week. 72 points. Up to fourteenth. It was a good idea to have Lampard as my captain this week...

Greig (treefell), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah, goal for Mr Ronaldo! About flipping time!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm very glad I put Robben in my team, I must say.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm very glad I swapped Gudjohnsen for Drogba.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

And I'm fucking snooker loopy that I had Robben as captain, quite frankly. I'm on 91 points for the week and Henry and Samuel haven't even played yet - thank christ I didn't transfer Huckerby out...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 22 January 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah piss. Samuel did play, so I'm now hoping Henry doesn't play in Arsenal's match so that I get Martin Albrechtsen subbed on instead, cos he's got a clean sheet and an assist today...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, WBS, 91 points with Henry to play is indeed very impressive!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Not a good time for me to have made Wright Phillips captain.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Saturday, 22 January 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Dear Thierry

it's not me, it's you. i've been looking at didier for a while and frankly, if i get rid of you and carsley i can get him and robben, so it's not really a hard decision.

love Steve

PS please don't score hat-tricks in every game from now until the end of the season, okthxbye

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 January 2005 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry's biggest goal drought for some time, how much longer can it go on? Lampard takes the armband back...

missed out on 6 more points because who knew Clement and the Baggies would keep a clean sheet? not me

Stevem On X (blueski), Monday, 24 January 2005 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(of course this desparate act has mainly been caused by my being overtaken by two GURLS in the last fortnight ;))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 24 January 2005 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Only Shay Given stood in the way of Henry (and for that matter Pires) racking up more points so I'm sticking with him.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

out of top ten again boos.. but i'm glad that people are losing faith in Henry because I'm still keeping him and now he will OWN

ken c (ken c), Monday, 24 January 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I like this rule whereby a goalie (i.e. Friedel like he did a couple of minutes ago) saving a penalty yet conceding a goal gets you more points than him keeping a clean sheet yet not saving a penalty. As long as he doesn't let in any more. Or unless I have read the rules wrong. And yes, I realise that saving the penalty then keeping a clean sheet would be better still, but it's quite a good way to not keep a clean sheet, points-wise.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 24 January 2005 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it finally time to sell Henry and buy Drogba? I'm paralysed by indecision.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Seeing as Henry isn't on form, maybe. I think he will score against their next opponents after United.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

cometh the hour cometh the man. i.e. if Henry doesn't score tonight then he truly has turned to shit

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's hope so. Want to beat those whinging Gooners.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope Arsenal stuff Man U personally

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

But Arsenal are such bottlers, it'd be funny to see Wenger's reaction, he'd probably spontaneously combust on the pitch with ire.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i am hedging my bets.. if henry doesn't score then at least carroll will do well.

of course unless ljklmnoungburg bergkamp pires viera reyes etc scores :(

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

This matters far less than any premiership game between the two for years. I'm a United fan but it wouldn't be the end of the world if we lost. It's just a battle to see who has the right to be 10 points behind Chelsea.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean obviously I don't want to lose, but I was more gutted getting knocked out of the Carling Cup by Chelsea last week than I would be if we lost tonight.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I've sold Henry and bought Shearer. I'm regretting it already.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard a Liverpool fan say last week they now have nothing to play for since they have qualified for the UEFA via the Carling Cup, that 4th was beyond them.

I had to point out that he was wrong. Only the winners get a place, otherwise it goes to the league.

He's now sufficiently worried they might slip to 7th that he reckons they have to win the Carling Cup to get to Europe at all.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

if Henry doesn't score tonight then he truly has turned to shit

Two assists though. I am regretting my choice of keeper (got shot of Friedel as Chelski give me teh fear, but chose Kiraly instead thinking - wrongly - that West Brom = shit and best chance of a clean sheet for a Premiership goalie).

I am also now regretting my choice of Ledley King as a decent replacement defender (Toure, thank God, was injured, or I'd have had him in to let in four goals against ManU). No fucking points though? Letting in three goals to BOLTON? Jeez. To think I believed in the Spurs revival as well...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Toure was suspended, not injured, and is for the next couple of games I think.

Did anyone persist with Ronaldo?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Mannion's Law strikes again (Earnshaw finally scores the round after i ditch him). Radzinski better do the biz tomorrow night.

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant suspended. Whatever, the wee red thingie was against him and I ditched him accordingly. Ditto on Radzinski, since Henry let me down AGAIN (though my other striker Andy Johnson continues to be da man as one of my only ever-presents).

I am an avid hater of fanny-dangling and will never pick Ronaldo, no matter how many goals he scores. This may be why I am not doing as well as I should at this fantasy thing, being too sentimental and biased against some players.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry's done okay tonight considering, picked up assist points.

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Or, what I said :)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, what I said first anyway, before accusing him of letting me down. Four points = better than he's done recently, but still not as good as before. I'm still not dropping him though, just in case (see my point about sentimentality, and also I feel the Stevem law of dropping people just before they hit form may also apply to me - I bet Friedel keeps a clean sheet tomorrow to spite me)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm left crossing my fingers for a Chelsea clean sheet while contemplating switching the Huckster for Crouchy... And if Leon Osman doesn't bloody do something this week I will screeeem.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry's dry run can't last - he and the suppliers at Arsenal are too good. He'll have a really hot sequence before long, I bet. If I'd dropped him, I'd be looking to buy him back now. Home to Man City at the weekend, are they? (From memory, might be wrong.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Henry actually got 8 points, 2 assists versus United.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't mind fanny-danglers (once they start scoring goals) but I had to overcome my deep-seated aversion to spiteful charvas to bring in Rooney. I have to admit it has been good for my results.

Yikes. The slippery slope of expediency. I'll be buying Lee Bowyer before you know it.

Ah. Wait. That'd just be daft.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

If Leon Osman does something, I will scream, as I had him and dropped him in favour of his fellow midfielder Carsley who has done precisely nowt since. But, as mentioned several billion times above, I am unwilling to tinker with my team unless forced.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

YYYYEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!
Didn't finish work until 9.30 so I've had to exist in a media-blackout until the highlights on MOTD.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmm. That should have been on the other thread.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't Robben crocked now? why doesn't he have a red 'i'?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I have signed Andy Reid! Hooray for groundless optimism!

And, somewhat less riskily, Ryan Giggs.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 February 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

And he's set up a goal, and Spurs are 3-1 up. Hooray!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 5 February 2005 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Fortunately, Leon Osman's injured, so I got the points for Aki's goal! I then transferred Leon out and found myself having to choose between Damien Francis and Zoltan Gera. have a guess which one I went for...

But yes, large midfield overhaul on the way. Either Aki or Wayne will be making way for Tom Soares, Gera's almost certainly being replaced with Francis, but most urgently Robben for Titchy Wee Shaun Wright Phillips.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 5 February 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Damien Duff, that'll be good too.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 5 February 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Giggsy is so hot right now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 6 February 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I read that as if spoken in the longing tones of an unrequited love.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 February 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Goal for Camara! And probably a bonus too!

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 6 February 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Are there any other players of that name that 'Arry can sign? This is his third!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 6 February 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Pah. Drogba still injured.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 6 February 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Double pah. And after I dropped Richard Dunne to the bench in anticipation of a swaggering rout.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 6 February 2005 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

None of the people in my wee bit of the fantasy league did very well this week. Are Man City Chelsea's bogey team then?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 6 February 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

hurrumph.

niether drogba or robben have played since i dumped henry (and carsley) for them :(((((((

and now a fortnight of pissing about friendlies, when half the rest of my team will get injured, mither moan grr...

then again everyone else has done pish this week, except chris and jamie. steve you appear to be arsenal to jamie's manu...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 6 February 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I certainly hope so.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 6 February 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

AAARRGH! I've fucked up so badly. When I was picking my team I just looked at each player's next opponents - I didn't bother to check the date. So I've got Shearer and Defoe up front and neither of them are playing for at least a fortnight because of cup replays. Even with subs I don't think I'll get 11 players this week.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Saturday, 12 February 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Chelsea aren't playing in week 28, so the same situation applies there too.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

and now Defoe is taking the piss by scoring for fun in the cup but it counts for nothing. grrrrr.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Saturday, 12 February 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I am mega-pissed off that I got rid of Dickov a few weeks back when he was suspended, and forgot to put him back in again, instead having a team full of people tied up in cup replays while Dickov is rattling goals in. Bah.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 12 February 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck fuck fuck, I wouldn't be doing too bad if it weren't for Beattie. Well he's still doing better then Reyes these days I suppose I shouldn't be too upset.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 12 February 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

gah. Upson should come in for Hreidarsson so that gives me 6 pts at least...hope both Henry and Johnson score tonight and West Brom don't concede against the Saints...

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

of course the FPL Compubrane could just blow up whilst trying to do all the calculations regarding auto-subs, who didn't play vs who's on the bench that did play etc. - it's giving me a headache as it is.

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm so glad to see that lots of people did as crappily as me this week, i thought leaving robben in my team would totally ruin me, but as long as andy johnson gets a hat-trick and henry gets sent off twice tonight i'm laughing ;)

also steve, jamie and adrian can all SHUT UP ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 February 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm... Just typed this before I read carsmile:

I really hope Henry gets sent off tonight, preferably after missing a penalty. That's the only way I can make any progress. Bloody cup replays on a Saturday. My captain, Giggs, only played for about twenty minutes, so he got me a double 1, at least three of my team didn't even play (including two strikers), and my transfer masterstroke was to bring in a Norwich player just in time for their mauling by Blackburn.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i reckon i've got 9 points coming off the bench (well done jaskelinein keeping a clean sheet), and then watson and johnson to play tonight (although watson hasn't played for a month or so!)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 14 February 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

HOLLER

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 14 February 2005 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, I would have been so good this week if I had (1) reinstated Henry as my captain, and (2) reinstated Dickov to my front line. Would have had another 20 points if I'd done that, and been up to fifth. Not a bad week all in though nonetheless. I wish I'd paid proper attention to this earlier in the season, I coulda been a contender...

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 14 February 2005 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

back to top 10 yay!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Bugger bugger Duff as captain bugger bugger. Still, IFK continue to cling to 14th as though they might at one point have deserved to be there, and with Bob Green set to be coming off the bench having somehow garnered 5 points this week, we've come through relatively unscathed.

Though we might have to give Aki the chop in favour of Soares after all. Bugger, bugger, bugger...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dead chuffed with my defenders for the last round - goodbye Jamie!

this weekend is problematic what with Chelsea not playing.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 24 February 2005 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

No Liverpool, Blackburn or West Brom either.

Davel (Davel), Thursday, 24 February 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

My team sucks SO MUCH this year. Last year must have been beginner's luck.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 24 February 2005 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm hoping on Arsenal to obliterate Soton

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 24 February 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

dead chuffed with my defenders for the last round - goodbye Jamie!

Hmmmm. Destroyed in fantasy football. Humiliated by Milan. Tomorrow afternoon I'm driving up north in preparation for the game against Fulham. Getting trapped in a snowdrift should round up my week nicely.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Thursday, 24 February 2005 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

This Carling Cup final has royally fuxored my team this week. I had to spend four points to try and get something resembling half a team. No Terry, no Lampard, no Gera, Downing injured, Carroll a total liability (if he gets a game...) wahhh! I am praying for a massive points-winning total from new transferred-in-for-the-week-captain Pires.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

...who has just been taken off with a serious injury. Bollocks.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And my own transferred-in-for-the-week-(for-the-umpteenth-time) gamble Mr Van Persie, who I seem to recall looked great pre-season but has done nowt since, has seized his moment and earned Sparta Redcliffe minus two points by being sent off!

Flipping heck.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, well, maybe you won't be catching me up this week after all...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, dear God, Stubbs isn't playing, Popovic isn't playing, I HAVE NO TEAM! My gamble of sacrificing points to get players in has spectacularly backfired, and only Andy Johnson is saving me from being totally rubbish.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm hoping for a few points from Ronaldo and Rooney at tea time....

(Even if Ruuuuuud plays, I'm hoping he'll be subbed for Rooney at some point)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Why didn't I ever put Leon Osman back in? Why? WHY?!?!?!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(I'm taking this far too seriously, aren't I?)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Tom Soares wins a penalty and doesn't get assist points? How very perculiar...

But yes, Leon Osman's soaring to the top of my shit-list as well. And my defence this week... Simon Charlton. Oh dear.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 26 February 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah, Rooney has scored for ManYoo. And Carroll has been dropped so I don't even get any goalie points this week. Grumble, grumble, mutter, whinge...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 February 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've stopped caring about this as my Telegraph team, powered by Ronaldo, Defoe and Johnson, has suddenly mounted an unexpected title challenge.

My ILX team, on the other hand, still contains Emile Heskey.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 26 February 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Rooney gets second goal to move Sparta Redcliffe level (I think?) with Real So-So-Sad!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 26 February 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It's in the rules that no one gets an assist for a penalty award - I don't know why.

This is the last season I'll play. I feel all enthusiastic at the beginning, looking at the rules and picking my team out. But once it gets going I can't be bothered making changes because of the fixtures or even injuries to my players. I don't get much out of this half-assed approach to playing, but I can't work up enough interest to play properly. I think in future I'll just do it for the international tournaments, where there isn't that weekly play aspect.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 February 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Rooney gets second goal to move Sparta Redcliffe level (I think?) with Real So-So-Sad

No, you are three points ahead of me. Serves me right for slagging you off prematurely! Please let Downing recover and set up Quedrueue for all six goals against poor lowly Charlton. Or something like that.

I am now going to have to spend points to get both Lampard and Terry back. Bloody replacements (Pires, off injured at half-time, Silvestre, lets stupid goal in). Bah.

I'm the total opposite of Martin with this, I've got stupidly into it this season. I couldn't be arsed with the Euro 2004 one, but doing this over a whole season seems to keep my interest more. Also it gives me a (somewhat tenuous) excuse to go to the pub to watch English football more.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 27 February 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

My team are sinking like a stone as I leap from blunder to blunder: selling Henry, forgetting the Saturday cup replays, making Giggs captain when Ferguson repeatedly decided he needed a rest, and making a double substitution to bring in Keane (who didn't play). I'm looking down rather than up now: Steve and Adrian are disappearing into the distance but I've got 7 people within a hundred points of me below.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

next season we could make this more interesting by setting up our own cash/other prizes or something

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Or we could say now that whoever finishes 3rd gets a tenner from all the other players.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

i think Manager of the Month for February should get a bottle of champagne.

thanks guys.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps a mini replica Premiership trophy, if these are available anywhere?

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 12:32 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe an application form for a Barclaycard?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

bah i resign (until drogba gets back to back hat-tricks next week of course). i do fancy chelsea's chances against norwich and west brom though (trouble is, i bet everyone else does as well...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I've made a double substitution for the second week in a row. I'm running scared. But if this fails I have one more evil trick up my sleeve.... {cackle}

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Friday, 4 March 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to have to as well what with SWP now out for 6 weeks.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 4 March 2005 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a bit of a bugger, the SWP injury. He was really consistent for me as well.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 4 March 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck. i hope carroll isn't dropped indefinitely

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god he is. and now wright phillips is fecked

ken c (ken c), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i might even make a third transfer what with Chelsea playing twice this gameweek

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

170 points off the leaders. Still everything to play for, then.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 5 March 2005 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm seriously contemplated doing about 10 transfers this week, but settled on three (Terry and Lampard back in again, and Kiely in for Carroll). I'm losing ground here.

i think Manager of the Month for February should get a bottle of champagne.

What does January's Manager of the Month get then?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh. Rooney & Ronaldo on the bench.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 5 March 2005 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

bum

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

United are struggling to break down Palace, so the R&R combination might be on for the 2nd half.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 5 March 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I picked up SWP early before his value went up so now as a transfer I can pick jack or shit to replace him.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 5 March 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Thierry Henry, I wuv you. I'd love you more if you were my captain, but still...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Ron on now. C'mon, bring on Roon for Ruud.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 5 March 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Lakis sent off.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 5 March 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i should have made my transfers before the deadline.. ah well, not that scholes did jack.

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I did rather well today.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I am hoping that leaving Lampard as my captain pays off and that he gets lots more points to be doubled in Chelsea's other game. Because Henry hat-tricks are sickeners when he's not your captain any more.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

he'd have to not concede and and get two assist or a goal and an assist to do it, I'm not so sure.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, his score has just gone up from 8 to 11 since the end of the game. What's that all about then? Bearing in mind next opponents are West Brom, I don't see another 6 points being out of the question.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I wasn't counting his bonus today.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I am pinning hopes on this as the rest of my team are a bit rubbish.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

aw lampard gets another game and got bonuses? i was hoping today was the payday for keeping faith with henry.

ken c (ken c), Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

gap on the leader down to 40 pts! thank you Captain Frank and Thierry

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel third within my grasp now, for similar reasons.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Time may be running out for me to make any more ground up on the leaders, but if I can stay in sixth, I'll be happy.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is Jamie Fake by the way?

Ed (dali), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, Terry's my captain for the week, so if he get a clean sheet vs West Brom, that's 12 points. I think - once Todd has played twice for Blackburn - Steve M and I will be roughly equal for this gameweek.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

And bloody Ronaldo, complete waste of a transfer this week on him!

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 5 March 2005 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I HEART NEIL CLEMENT

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 6 March 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Todd gets me a clean sheet, and he, Terry, Lampard and Defoe are all playing again this gameweek.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate that our teams are so similar - got four more to play again too, so Terry or Defoe will have to do something special if we're to be roughly equal this week boyo

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we have cornered the market in the best players. If I kept Henry as captain I'd have won the week. Anyhow, life goes on.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Wouldn't mind a Defoe double actually.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 6 March 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

If I kept Henry as captain I'd have won the week

eh? he's not my captain either - really wish he had been this week so my score could've been 12 points higher too.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 6 March 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I made Terry my captain, anticipating a clean sheet vs Norwich.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 6 March 2005 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, when drogba scores 5 against west brom i'll be laughing!!!

(otherwise, i'm screwed)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 6 March 2005 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've sold Henry and bought Shearer. I'm regretting it already.
-- The Horse of Babylon (jamiefak...), February 1st, 2005 11:27 AM.

It's been all downhill since then. Fucking Henry. I promised myself at the start of the season that I would never sell him, but some kind of madness took over.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe we can form a breakaway league for idiots.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

that's no good, your still 100 points ahead of me ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 6 March 2005 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

my first century...

i love this game, shame about Blackburn's clean sheet tho

Henry being presumably ruled out for this weekend will make things very interesting - i've already transferred once...

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 17 March 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Very tempted to sell Defoe, he's done fuck all for me.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Thursday, 17 March 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't even manage a full team due to Stubbs' injury and none of my subs making it near a pitch (or a bench). I have multiple transfer quandaries this week. I wonder if I can get away without transferring Henry and just demoting him to the bench (it'll cost a fortune to get him back).

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

no full team for me either what with useless Radzinski dropped

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Radzinski was what did for me as well.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 March 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Could do what I plan to, leave Henry in the team, but make sure you have a good backup sub, in case he doesn't play after all

AdrianB (AdrianB), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve, why don't you just sell Radzinski?

AdrianB (AdrianB), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, that was what I was getting at. Trouble is NONE of my subs played last week, and Stubbs isn't looking likely to be playing at the weekend, so I'm going to have to get rid of Radzinski and Stubbs and get a cheapo yet decent defender and another striker to go in if Thierry doesn't make it.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, not exactly what I was getting at, but now you mention it, it's a better option than my plan of dropping him to the bench assuming he wasn't going to play. I have worked out a way now of keeping him because if I sell him I won't be able to afford to get him back without sacrificing one of my other top money players, and Lampard and Terry are too important in my clinging on to 6th place.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooops, that was me.

Today is the day that Sparta Redcliffe mount their challenge on the leaders.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 19 March 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Oh, you'll probably go straight past me again, since I gambled on keeping my keeper as Kiely, who has just conceded a goal to West Brom (I also have a Charlton defender), thankfully at least the goal was set up by the only West Brom player in my team (Gera), but still, not the best of starts...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Very tempted to sell Defoe, he's done fuck all for me.

Just as well you didn't, eh?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Yup. Signed Dyer and sold Giggs instead.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

AKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII why must you wait till I've forgotten to re-sign you after injury to score? Why you always do this? Hmmph. Well, at least it's an assist for Routledge (why did I buy Duff? Why? What was that all about?)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 19 March 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha, my excellent transfer tactics have totally backfired! Keeping Terry = ONE POINT. Why pick this week to concede a goal and get booked, you big oaf? Getting rid of Alan Stubbs for Luke Young who scored a fantastic nul points, when it's looking likely that Stubbs may return for Everton tomorrow and probably WON'T concede four goals. Hat-tricks for Henri Camara and Olaf Mellberg plzkthnxbye :)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 19 March 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

My latest signing, Geoff Horsfeld, more than made up for having charltons defence and goal keeper.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 19 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

Woohoo!

And Sunderland go top of the table as well!

A clean sheet and a couple of assists from Signor Pistone tomorrow would round the weekend off nicely.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 20 March 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Whereas despite totally forgetting to change my keeper and get rid of that numpty Young, I am doing quite well thanks to Frankie, Thierry and Quedrueue. Now if only I had Thierry as captain instead...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 April 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

FUCK I FORGOT TO MAKE HENRY BACK TO BE CAPTAIN!

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 3 April 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

i would've only had ten more points if i'd made Henry captain so not too fussed. bad week to sign Boumsong tho...

Sven Basted (blueski), Sunday, 3 April 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

The couple of people around me in my section of the table have Kieron Dyer in their teams so I am laffing at them now. I am also praying for a hugely high-scoring free-for-all down at the Hawthorns, with hat-tricks at least for Carsley and Gera. Having Henry as captain would have made me another ten points also, but I am less blasé about it than Steve.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 April 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

well if Lampard hadn't scored i'd be much more upset

Sven Basted (blueski), Sunday, 3 April 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

bludy hell, i hadn't realised mellberg had got a yellow card and been taken off at half time, arses...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Dyer was my captain.

The Horse of Babylon (the pirate king), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

d'oh...

dude, you're plummeting like a big falling thing...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

FUCK I FORGOT TO MAKE HENRY BACK TO BE CAPTAIN!

You can say that again.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 3 April 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Gera scores!

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Yay Zoltan! Now if an Everton player could please score one, maybe two, cos I'd not mind West Brom not actually taking three off this...

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

c'mon Clement, keep a clean sheet and nod one in from a corner or something...

Sven Basted (blueski), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Nah, hat-trick for ZG please, as Carsley's just been taken off and I don't have anyone else involved in this.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Bugger. A 1-0 win, and I left Albrechtsen on the bench while Terry & Gallas let Kevin Phillips score one yesterday, then put three past us at the other end... grr.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 3 April 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

I got 66 points this week despite two of my defenders scoring a glorious nul points (Young & Mellberg), John Terry scoring a measly one, and having a crap keeper. Note to self: GET RID OF LEE CARSLEY, HE'S RUBBISH (note to everyone else, if I get rid of Lee Carsley, he will become brilliant)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 April 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

And I got a miserable 33 points as Ron and Roo let me down against Blackburn, Carvalho was left on the bench, and I gambled on the wrong one of Gudjohnsen and Drogba.

Ranking Rupert (Ranking Rupert), Sunday, 3 April 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Sigh, wrong log-in again. *I* got a miserable 33 points.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 3 April 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

No, I lied. I have 69 points. I have Cabbage in my sights, when it looked for a while like I was going to fall back outside the top 10. Franck Quedrueue, I kiss you, even if I can't spell your name.

The week of the FA Cup semis is going to kill me though.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 April 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Cahill has scord twice, and is on 11 points at the moment, and with a probable bonus to come as well.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 10 April 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

SCREW YOU

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 10 April 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

i think it confirms your victory in the ILX league though, as if there was any prospect of me catching you anyway. well played Sir.

$V£N! (blueski), Sunday, 10 April 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Thank you, very gracious. However, have looked at next week's fixtures, I've only got 7 players! So you might yet haul me in.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 10 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

And your team beat mine yesterday, so that's some consolation for you.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 10 April 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Adrian - you're team could well be in the top 100 overall by tonight.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Sunday, 10 April 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Could well be, I know I'm about 8th on the Manchester Utd fan's section.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 10 April 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Not to do with the fantasy league, but since it's here...

One of the things I love about football is being able to empathise with other teams' fans (not all others, obv). I knew what was coming while watching West Brom and Villa on MOTD2 tonight, and could really identify with a team struggling desperately against relegation having been in the doomed 'bottom at Xmas' slot, one down to hated local rivals deep in injury time, and then getting a goal to draw the game, knowing that point takes you a point above the relegation zone for the first time in ages.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 10 April 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

"However, have looked at next week's fixtures, I've only got 7 players!"

Hmmm, yes, this is a bit of a challenge in my race to catch up with Ailsa again (and narrow the mere 240 point gap on the leaders, obv)

*Gambles on paying for extra transfers in the hope that Liverpool and Palace do the business today*

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 16 April 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

Even after a transfer I've only got six. We're probably all in the same boat (metaphorically, obviously).

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Saturday, 16 April 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

Woohoo, AJ!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 16 April 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Good night for Fake 'n' Vac at last. I'm still in the race for third place. Meanwhile Adrian B is now ranked 38th out of 466,522 players.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Thursday, 21 April 2005 06:59 (twenty years ago)

Damn forgetting to switch captain. what the hell am i suppossed to do about the Herny dilema?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 April 2005 07:02 (twenty years ago)

Really? Blimey!

AdrianB (AdrianB), Thursday, 21 April 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

hmmm i'm confused. i think we should be on the top leagues table here:

http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/stats.mc?stat=bestleagues

as i make our top five average 1807 and we haf more than five managers...

i have given up on my season since mellberg got injured...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 21 April 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Best Leagues? I'll be happy when I nip Tom at the wire for a top 20 finish. I've got Beattie fucking me around and no Henry and still had a good enough week. At least its 97 points between me and the next sucker. Suppose that mean I'm last of the people still paying attention.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, I'm back up to sixth again. The mister's getting a bit mystified at my insistence upon supporting whichever team has the most players involved in my FFL team at any one time. Last night in the pub I actually cheered when a goal-flash came up saying that Gera had scored. Does that make me sad?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 21 April 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

hehe, i do that as well, we can be sad together ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 21 April 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

I was gutted when Hreidarsson headed inches wide!

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

and Clement clipped the post with a Harte-esque free kick. sob.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 21 April 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Last night in the pub I actually cheered when a goal-flash came up saying that Gera had scored

I did this too.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

I feel at one with all of your inner mentalist.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 21 April 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Chelsea in leaky defence shocker! STOP IT!!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

God I'm glad Chelsea won today. It means Spurs get the possibility of taking the title away from Arsenal at Highbury! Yay!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

matt are you in the future, there's still three minutes to play here...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad Frankie scored to make up for Chelsea's new and annoying habit of letting in goals.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Mystic Matt DC proved right as Eidur Gudjohnsen puts it beyond doubt.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Also, Dear John Terry, please stop getting booked and losing me points. You're better than that. Thank you.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I hope I'm proved right about the other bit now...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 23 April 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

How come Hreidarsson's not playing for Charlton?

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't know, but I'm glad Riise wasn't on when Liverpool conceded.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Also, Dear Stuart Downing, please stop getting yourself booked as well. It's not big and it's not clever and it's costing me points. Thanks.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

3 Blackburn defenders + 1 clean sheet = 18 points. And they're playing West Brom next week, do it again boys.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Dear John Arne Riise, etc etc...

I HATE MY TEAM THIS WEEK. Bunch of hooligans.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Downing did get 8 points though, not a bad haul. I dropped him, natch.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

i put him in as captain:)

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's because he scored just after I was slagging him off up there. However, it would still have been nicer if he'd not been booked.

(xpost)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Shite, I have two Crystal Palace defenders on my bench who both played all 90 minutes against Liverpool, but they won't get into my team due to everyone getting a game. Bah.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I'll take the 18 points in Henry's absence.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Also, I forgot to make my captain someone who was playing twice. I am STUPID!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I should be in the top 50 for Canada this month. Bah!

Good to know I suck as hard as my compatriots.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 23 April 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Just heard on 5 Live, Ronaldo's not in the Man Utd starting line-up today vs Newcastle.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 24 April 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

But Rooney just scored with what is as spectacularly great strike as I've seen in pushing 40 years of watching football.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 24 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

What did he do? I heard it on 5 Live, but haven't seen it.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 24 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

A ball went into the edge of the area, and a Newcastle centre back nodded it away, and it dropped to Rooney, and he volleyed it from, at a guess, 30 yards. It rocketed into the goal, not that far from Given, but he had no chance at all. I expect we'll get speed and distance stats on Sky at some point, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a better hit.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 24 April 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

It was great, but the one against Boro in the cup earlier this season was even better.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Sunday, 24 April 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

*cries* My bench consists of Leitgerwood and Popovic, both of whom had clean sheets as defenders. Yet I have a full team with loads of diddies ranging from 2 to 0 points that they could have replaced.

WAAAHHHHH :(

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 24 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but you've still done better than anyone else so far this gameweek. Meanwhile I'm just one point away from the coveted bronze soccer medal.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Sunday, 24 April 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, I didn't even notice that. Yay me. but still, imagine Leitgerwood being better than Riise. Who'd have thunk it, eh?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 24 April 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

So it's Mr Gera v Mr Van Persie in the Real So-so-sad v Sparta Redcliffe battle for sixth place...

I'm almost hoping VP doesn't play and I get Fitz Hall's auto-subbed clean sheet points....

What was that? I'm taking this too seriously, you say?

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 1 May 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

All of you Lampard-owning bastards have come flying past me again.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Sunday, 1 May 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

The battle for 6th place continues.

Mr Van Persie would appear to be winning, given that he's scored and that Zoltan's not even on the pitch to redeem that.

However, since Ronaldo didn't play, you get Diop in, who managed to get himself sent off. And I've got McBride still to play another game, whereas although you now have a Fulham player, he's suspended. So looks like I hang onto sixth by the skin of my teeth this week.

Now who's taking this too seriously?

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 2 May 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Heheh, yeah, I screwed up with Diop. I transferred him in and then forgot to put him into my starting line-up, so it's only by virtue of Ronaldo not playing that I've got anything out of him - and then he gets sent off!

Is he definitely suspended? I was clinging on to the vain hope that it didn't kick in straight away.

Darn, does this mean I've got to cheer on flipping Newcastle to keep out McBride?

Hmmm.

Nope, I just can't do it.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Monday, 2 May 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Yay. Sort of.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I just spent shitloads of points getting in decent players since there seems little point in keeping Thierry now, which frees up tons of money. I guess I've just handed the initiative to Snnap Dragon for the sixth place now. I'm the Liverpool of this league, started off shit, done quite well, but probably not enough.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 6 May 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Adrian B & Steve M made the top two spots safe ages ago, but I'm locked in a grim three-way battle for the final place on the podium. I've gambled everything on signing Van Nistelrooy. Not looking good at the mo' - once again a Chelsea clean sheet and my lack of Lampard have left me ten points or so behind already.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Boateng scores, but I've put him on the bench. I make Johnson captain and he gets booked.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I've gambled on the AJ hat-trick n all. It doesn't sound too likely from the radio commentary though.

Oh Fitz Hall scores!!!! Get in!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

And straight away he loses his clean sheet to a penalty.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

Ashton scores!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

b-but it wasn't AJ that got sent off...(he did get booked though)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 May 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Re AJ, yeah, I didn't think he'd been sent off, just that Palace weren't playing very well.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Oh neither you did. I was reading this as well as watching Sky Sports News and thought you'd said Johnson had been sent off as that was what they were talking about on the TV and I got all confused.

Brian McBride has scored and I put him on the bench. Oh bollocks.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Blimey, Crouch and Sorondo sent off.

Goal for your Mr Cahill, Ailsa...

It's exciting, this, like.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

It is indeed. That's put me back ahead of you again (just).

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Team news from Old Trafford: no Van Nistelrooy. My gamble fails.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 7 May 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh, FFS, Mr Hibbert....

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

OMG am I glad Everton dropped Martyn for that...

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

not a bad score considering 4 of my first team didn't play.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 12 May 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

And in 5th place, Fake 'n' Vac are looking nervously over their shoulders...

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Thursday, 12 May 2005 06:14 (twenty years ago)

I've got a bad feeling that in the 'three-way battle for third place' I'm actually going to finish seventh.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 12 May 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

i haven't seen such a slide since QPR went off the boil back in November.

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Right, desperate times call for desperate measures (ie cheating a bit). Time to bring on The Spoilers...

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

eeeeeeeeeeeeeh, i'm tellin'

;)

good week for me, but still 13th...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

Time to bring on The Spoilers...
WAH! Not fair! Mr Blatter, sir! He's not playin' fair!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Thursday, 12 May 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, I had a really good week. Fifth place may yet still be mine.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 12 May 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

i think the spoilers should be well and truly spennymoored from any final table ;)

i could *could* go top ten today given a couple from eidar or reyes...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Argh. No Ronaldo for Man U.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

No Defoe again.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

"Just as equally if not even more so".

You can rely on Graham Taylor to mangle the language.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Fulham 1 Norwich 0

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

And it was McBride for Ailsa.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Diop scores!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Frankie!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 15 May 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

AJ! Get in!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

West Brom score again

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

(Ooops wrong window)

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

And it looks like McBride's 16 points will take Real So-So-Sad into 5th place!

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Sunday, 15 May 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Need to wait for the final scores. I think Ailsa might be ahead of me, but Lloyd Park Rangers might be there for the taking too.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Sunday, 15 May 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

The pub I was in watching the Celtic game this afternoon was weirdly all supporting Norwich afterwards, and not terribly impressed with me cheering on McBride.

I make it that I am two points behind Cabbage, purely because I thought Everton had less to play for and that it would prove useful to keep Gera ahead of Cahill.

boo, and indeed, hoo...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 15 May 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

oooh i made it to the top 10 after all!!!! (somehow? i beat charltonlido on goal diff???!!)

Ken maybe you have a higher average gameweek score than Gareth? I do wonder how it's been ranked.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

i suspect its who has made the least transfers, that comes higher.

11th, very mediocre

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

If you'd picked this team at the start of the season you could've relaxed for the whole campaign making no changes other than to sub when the first choice was out, and you'd win the competition comfortably.

Friedel (Blackburn) (5.5) = 156
Terry (Chelsea) (9.1) = 196
Southgate (Middlesbro) (6) = 130
Robinson (West Brom) (3.7) = 70
Todd (Blackburn) (5) = 124
Weir (Everton) (4.8) = 117
Lampard (CAPTAIN) (Chelsea) (11.1) = 269 (x2 = 538)
Makalele (Chelsea) (7.5) = 135
Hughes (Crystal Palace) (5.2) = 127
Gera (West Brom) (6) = 134
Downing (Middlesbro) (7.1) = 159
Henry (Arsenal) (14.8) = 231
Johnson (Crystal Palace) (9.5) = 183
Davies (Bolton) (6.6) = 104

Total cost = 101.9 (offset by lower value of players at start of season)

Total score = 2404

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Forgot to add Hoult (West Brom, 4.0, 99) as sub keeper there, so that would bring the total to 2503!

Malbranque should definitely be one to watch again next season. I missed him.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

yea, i think he'll come back strong next season after a frankly disappointing runout this time

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

my average gameweek score was only 54.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Forgot to add Hoult (West Brom, 4.0, 99) as sub keeper there, so that would bring the total to 2503!

b-b-but, surely you wouldn't get points for all fifteen players every week - you can only play 11 at a time?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was thinking that. Also, what's with bringing in an extra team in the last week, knocking Gareth out of the top ten on goal difference or something...

I can't believe I missed out on fourth place by six measly points. Oh well, perhaps I will take this more seriously right the way through next season.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 16 May 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Relegated :(

I didn't keep up. The lamors kept getting injured, and I never bothered replacing them.

My defence was awesome!

Hopefully, with some quality signings, we can bounce back next year.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

i thought something wasnt right, a second team brought in at the last minute. cheating! ok, so i am 10th after all (i could have brought in my other team, which got 2055, which would have put me 2nd overall)

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Anyone playing next season?

AdrianB (AdrianB), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I imagine so.

$V£N! (blueski), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Oh, definitely, yes.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

A respectably solid 8th (7th in a Spoilers-free world). A mere 221 points behind the champions. I blame an unstable midfield and my failure to find a dependable strike partner for Johnson.

Oooh, yes, I'll be up for next season.

I'll need something to take my mind of Sunderland getting tonked each week.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

Definitely not - I was pissed off by my half-arsed attitude (one transfer early in the season, then forgot about it). I don't have the time and passion to play it properly, and get no satisfaction from playing it poorly, so won't try. Unless I change my mind. Maybe I'll just do the bit I like (the initial selection) and consciously decide to do nothing thereafter.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

I'll be there. Don't know about the spoilers, though.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

midtable midtable midtable!

Aiming for mediocracy is a Canadian soccer tradition!

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

bah, if only lampard had knocked one more in on sunday i would've leapfrogged ken, gareth AND david...

11th a long way off what mid-season predicted, i am the charlton...
