Because I miss it and haven't watched it in months. Please tell me:

Who has gone to Adelaide?
Who has come back from the dead?
Who has died in a car crash on the day they were going to propose to their girlfriend?
Who has fallen out of a disused building and hurt themselves?
Who is being stalked by a nutter?
Who is a nutter?
Has Susan Kennedy got her memory back yet?
Hang on a minute - Drew is dead now? What gives?
Is Toady still in it? If not why not? If so then what's he up to?
Who are the fittest characters?
Who are the most annoying characters?
What's happening with the Scullys?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

1. No one
2. No one
3. Dee died in a car crash shortly after marrying Toadie, if that helps
4. Max
5. Max
6. Max's mate Gus. Who caused him to fall out of said disused building
7. Yes, but Karl's had a midlife crisis, divorced her and is now going out with a 26 year old femme fatale called Izzy
8. He died ages ago. He fell off a horse
9. Toadie married Dee, then she died an hour after the ceremony, then he fell in love Sindy, who was going out with a gangster called Rocco. Rocco kidnapped Toadie, but there was an accident and toadie ended up in a coma. Rocco was arrested. Toadie woke up. But the first name he said after coming out of the coma was Dee's, and Sindy's not happy. Life's never easy, eh?
10. Not too many hotties at the moment. Susan's got a new do and is looking quite MILFy. Sindy's alright. Libby's not looking too bad.
11. Serena. Jack.
12. Steph's recovered from cancer and is marrying Max. Jack's an arse. Michelle and Holly Valance are 'in New York.' Joe's been away for months, and is going to die off-screen. Boo!

There you go. It's on in ten minutes.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't seen this in well over a decade. What are Scott and Charlene up to?

robster (robster), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold Bishop's son = a superb piece of casting.

I usually only see five minutes of this before the news.

IIRC the hotties are all in Home and Away these days.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The crowning glory of Neighbours recently has been Harold having a stroke and TURNING EVIL! it's the best thing ever.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG that's genius!!!

robster (robster), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I forgot to mention; Izzy's pretty fit for a homewrecking floozy.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold is evil?! I don't believe you!

I love the way you can just tell in Neighbours that someone will have recently been in a car accident/fallen out of a building/been in a coma - normally just before or after a wedding.

New York must be the new Adelaide. Travel is cheaper these days.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Whither Bouncer?

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

he's in dreamland, alas.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold's slowly turing good again. You've missed all the best bits.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I want Good Harold and Bad Harold to manifest as seperate beings and fight like in Superman 3.

robster (robster), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I think my favourite Harold incident was the time when he was out jogging and someone runs him over. The way he fell was just pure comedy.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Wooden, please recount the highlights of Barold.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

They released a Neighbours DVD at Christmas innit? It was a bit boring though. It needed to have Bouncer's dream on it.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

He started drinking (oooooh) he left the salvos (hisssss), he insulted everyone and started blatantly perving on women. Not evil as such, but not the paragon of virtue we've known and loved all these years.

The funniest was he spent about two weeks calling Lou 'Kidney Thief'.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone remember when Lou and Phil (I think) took magic mushrooms by mistake? They showed Lou's halucination of a flying pig. I'm sure I didn't dream it.

You know you're a lost cause when you start having Neighbours dreams.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure who Phil is, but damn wish I could've seen that.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil = mark one Tony Soprano

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

not sure how you can take shrooms by mistake either.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

See?:

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

eat em.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Interesting fact: Phillip Pullman takes a break from writing every day to watch Neighbours.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

that's george costanza isn't it?

Bumfluff, Thursday, 5 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll never watch neighbours again after what they did to toadie.
It was so transparent, oh we know the idea of dee getting together with him is SOO unreralistic we're just going to kill her off and break his soul in two cos we're that cynical and we're too useless to write stories in which they are together

Bumfluff, Thursday, 5 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

true bumfluff. plus as i say, the car crash thing seems to happen evry month.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The unhinged internal logic of Neighbours is what makes it worth watching.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Toadie was in a coma, Dee died, WTF??

My friend told me Toadie had been kidnapped by the mafia, and I believed him.

I miss watching Neighbours, I could just put the telly on, but I can't concentrate on it for than 5 minutes. If I can't watch it twice a day, there's no point.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The mushroom-induced dream thing was Jim Robinson and Doug Willis, by the way. And, yes, we've done this before...TS: Home and Away v Neighbours

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Toadie should so have his own spin off:
Toadfish; Attorney at Law.
Bah Bow Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoow.
P.s. you forgot to say that Izzy is pregnant to Gus and is pretending that it's Karl's child and this week she has to fake an ultra sound

The highlight of my week was realising that Neighbours and Home and Away simultaneously have characters with an eye patch.

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Toadie was kidnapped by this chap;

http://bbc.net.uk/puresoap/storyupdates/content/neighbours/20040309/images/img_p141_s7286_txd20040309_v2_f6.jpg

a leading light in that most notorious of criminal institutions, the Australian Mafia.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

jel have you been away from ilx recently? it feels like you haven't been around for ages?

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, the break up of Susan and Karl has left me traumatised.

Marianna LCL, Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I've been around, maybe not as much as before! A few weeks (months?) of only posting one or two messages a day (ennui)...but now I've come back.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I always wanted Susan and Karl to be my parents

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad to hear it Jel

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 5 August 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister maintains that the reason Susan has such a good figure is she never had children irl. I too am devastated at the Kennedys' break-up. Is Dhal the parrot still in it?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the kennedys will get back together!

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it too obvious to comment on that photo of Phil?????? I'm kind of pissing myself a little bit.

scg, Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night Joe Scully (well, whoever plays him) walked into the bottle shop down the road from my place as I was exiting it. He was limping, and had a look of extreme pain on his face. It was rather surreal.

Damn you guys are behind in the UK! This whole Lou in jail being razzed by Darcy who - dun dun dunnnn - happens to be his cellmate, is just stupid.

Sha't of a'p Of chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

joe has been sacked hasn't he?

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

In real life you mean? I dunno, is that why he's off the show? Maybe its because of this leg thing, haha!

(I really should stop messing with my screen name).

Chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

he is off our screens. I think he has been sacked, yeah.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

isn't susan kennedy the famous lesbian?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

he was sacked for either gambling addiction / drug addiction / sexual harrassment reasons, depending on what story you've heard

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

He looked pretty fucked up last night I must say - sort of overweight and shaggy and messy.

Chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone in Oz actually still watch it? I heard it was pretty much being made for the UK these days.

The Lou/Darcy thing sounds brilliant. Can't wait.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I always thought a sitcom with Lance from Neighbours sharing a flat with Vinny from Home and Away would be fantastic. Unfortunately my letters are routinely ignored.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I got into it a bit a couple of months ago (the appeal's worn off now). One thing I think is absolutely great is the fact that Harold is one of the chief screenwriters of the show.

Also nobody's mentioned the hotness that is Skye (or maybe was - before she was blonde). Too young for you guys, maybe? Aparrently she'll be having some sort of lesbian experience soon, which is pretty cool (and brave, yet contrived).

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Also I think a spinoff show starring Lou and Harold would be absolutely awesome.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 5 August 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Harold needs his own X Files-style spin-off, where he routinely vanishes into thin air and reappears six months later selling Legacy badges.

Which Describes How You're Feeling All the Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i did think skye was hott when she was a brunette. and a few of the younger characters have been dressed up in all sorts of cleavage-enhancing getups lately and it's slightly disturbing.

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Skye the one who now has the long blonde hair with the weird black extensions in it?

Chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

yes

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I'd hit it.

Um. I mean..

Chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd watch "the Harold Bishop Mysteries". He could solve crimes by night

.., Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

we had an idea, a few years ago, for karl and joe (I think they used to 'argue' a lot (joe thought karl thought he was better than him was part of it, maybe) to move, together, to sydney (or somewhere that is in australia), and set up a minicab firm, with joe as the driver and karl as the controller. it would be called, of course, "karl's kabs" and it would be a sitcom.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

ugh! weird! this thread is giving me weird deja vu flashbacks about a dream i had - i can't really explain it but it is!!!

anyway - please post a picture of skye so i can give her the dog latin thumbs up (if necessary)

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

We dont have minicabs in Australia ;P

Chreiysy (trayce), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

so, that's another level, that the idea works on.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

http://perfectblend.net/neighbourhood/bio/bishop-sky.jpg

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey yea, and they can answer the 'phone with 'Karl's Minicabs', and the voice at the other end can say 'what's a minicab?' Extend to 26 episodes a year and you've got your series.

Why wouldn't it work? It's one joke more than Hey Dad managed.

Which Describes How You're Feeling All the Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Skye looks a bit like a shark.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

at least she doesn't look like The Shark

purple patch (electricsound), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

That guy on Hey Dad! that ate a lot of food was a joke, wasn't he?

Maybe the entire premise of the series was one big joke.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ben Oxenbould's come a long way. He couldn't act for shit in Hey Dad. Comedy Inc's a retarded mess, but at least he can act now.

Al'manach Oseni (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What are you smoking? He's the worst thing on a totally shithouse comedy show. Seriously, Comedy Inc is the most retarded comedy series since Comedy Company.

Chreiysy (trayce), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

And I *like* Skithouse.

Chreiysy (trayce), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

not to mention Comedy R Us

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

skithouse has its moments, and most of them involve tripod

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahaaahah yes, their song about Sunnyboys the other night was a classic. I want Scods babies.

Chreiysy (trayce), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I said he can act, I didn't say he's any good at being funny.

You can tell Comedy Inc is bad before it even starts, because they have that title sequence that does wacky BOING things all over the place, as if to say 'HEY LOOK! WE'RE ZANY! WE GUARANTEE THE ONSET OF HILARITY!' Any decent fucking comedy doesn't need to proclaim itself as such so bloody noisily.

Al'manach Oseni (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, should this be its own thread?

Al'manach Oseni (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this some strange Australian comedy you're talking about? Is it a bit like Let the Blood Run Free?

Wooden (Wooden), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. Probably, yes.

Chreiysy (trayce), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost yeah, theres a whole slew of Aus comedy that never escapes Aus TV land.

Chreiysy (trayce), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Thread for Australian comedy and Comedy Inc/Hey Dad

Al'manach Oseni (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

e.g. Pizza

purple patch (electricsound), Friday, 6 August 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

And I *like* Skithouse.

Get the fuck off my server. Seriously.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 6 August 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

humour is a funny thing.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 6 August 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 6 August 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

nine months pass...
I can't remember the last time I saw Neighbours but Lou's still in it and he looks really, really old. Imdb says he's only 66.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't why, but there's this teenager who looks like Hannah and she's geeky friends who are starting a chip music band in her living room.

If it's this good every show, I'm going to start taping it.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Lou has started running a Dungeons and Dragons night omg! Hes dugeon master, and he dresses up in a cape and everything. Its bloody hilarious.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Yes! Chip music! I couldn't believe it! (They're no Glomag, mind.)

This is probably even better than the time Tad wanted to buy that Mogwai remix album...

emil.y (emil.y), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

what the fuck? it just occurred to me caleb nichol (OC) is jim robinson (neighbours).

i used to be crazed for neighbours back in the eighties. i never saw the channel 7 3:30 version but i never missed the channel 10 6:30 version. i started watching again in 2004 because 6pm-7pm was my exercise bikin' time. simpsons then neighbours to help keep my mind from being cardionumbed, dig?

so now im in the neighbourless US and im wondering what happened after lassiters caught fire? who is dead? who got burnt beyond recognition and returned later played by another actor after plastic surgery? did lou get a spanky new pub? did harold get a dishy new cafe? is jack still a ecstasy head? whats the crooked cop chick up to? has izzy finally been accepted by the over 40s ramsey street set? has karl kennedy bored anyone so much they finally hacked him into little pieces with a dull kitchen knife? remember when that girl moved to ramsey street and they all thought she was a junkie because they caught her shooting up while peeking through her windows but it turned out she was just diabetic. that was gold.

Jim Robinson was in 24 as well. He's infiltrating serious American drama, but it doesn't work because we (well me and the mister) still point at the telly and scream "IT'S JIM ROBINSON!".

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
The 20th anniversary show bought a tear to my eye. I miss watching Neighbours.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

My neighbor brought me fresh-baked brownies yesterday, which I appreciated.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

I've been missing Neighbours thanks to my assy (thats ASSSY, Adam ;P) night shifts. Then again, this week Ive been home in time and I still havent watched it. Huh. Last thing I saw, that rather unattractive chick Connor was going out with had returned and is trying to steal him back off Serena. God knows why he'd date either of those two. One has a hideous mole on her lip and the other is like, a teenager.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

Greatest episode of any TV show, ever, today. Surely?

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 18 October 2005 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

Hit the plane down! No survivors?

This was good shit last night. Thank goodness I'm able to get home in time for this week's action packed episodes.

stew!, Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

what? what? whats happening?? i havent seen neighbours for a whole year!

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Um, where to start? Neighbours has been batshit crazy in the last year, what with the evil corporation trying to buy out Ramsay St, the return of Paul Robinson and Joe Mangel, Cindi going wacko, Dr Karl becoming a broken man, Harold revealing his dark side...

The latest is that half of Ramsay St (inc Susan, the Bishops sans Harold, Connor, Dylan and Sky) has gone on a joy-flight (which seems to involve dressing up in 30s clothing and piping trad jazz into the plane) to some holiday resort. But there's a bomb on board which blows up one of the engines and they have to make a crash landing into the sea! Who will survive? This is Dynasty type stuff, albeit with rubbish effects - we didn't even see the plane crash!

stew!, Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

woah!

did the guy from big brother and cindi ever officially hook up? is toadie still around? hasnt there already been a 'bad harold' storyline? what happened to karl's woman? wasnt she hiding some dreadful secret that had something to do with her being preggers? are jow and paul played by the original guys?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

jow=joe, of course

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

is john howard still prime minister?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

The Big Brother guy? Is that Stu? This must be Aussie BB...
Her and Stu got together, but in order to pay off debts she went back to stripping and was then offered megabucks for a night of passion with some sleazy businessman. She didn't go through with it -had some flip a coin bet and got the money for nothing. But Stu finds out and goes mental.
When Lassiters is set aflame by an as yet undiscolsed baddie (Paul?) Stu saves Cindi from the fire but goes temporarily blind and acts badly at being miserable. However he recovers and they marry, only for her to go mental. It turns out that she did push people out of buildings after all! So it's off to the nuthouse for her.

Toadie's still around, lawyering and having a long distance relationship with a wrestler/teacher/singer. He's been wrestling recently. As has Connor as The Shamrock!

The Hazman had a mild stroke and went a wee bit nuts but is alright now. However, Aussie spoilers indicate he's gonna lose it when he gets some bad news.

Karl's woman was eventually found out after a long and protracted storyline. Izzy, for it is she, was eventually dobbed in when Darcy came out of his coma and showed Susan the medical records proving it wasn't her baby but Gus's (the mental mate of her brother who died in the Lassiters fire) But she lost the baby after a boating accident, so it avoided any controversial abortion story lines. When Karl find out he has a crazy breakdown in the middle of the street. It was awesome. She also had an affair with Paul. Poor Karl. He'll bounce back I hope!

Lou's been kicked out his house by Paul and now lives in a tent in the trailer park. Poor Lou! Loses his wife, his kid, his business...

Paul and Joe are played by the original actors, oh yes indeed.

Can't believe I just typed all this nonsense out! Oh well, I'm between calls at work.

stew!, Thursday, 19 January 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

Grr Neighbours nearly made me miss my train last night due to lazy student punters lingering in the computer lab until the very last minute so they could watch the thrilling plane crash. I hope they don't make a habit of coming here to watch the bloody thing.

chap who would dare to no longer work for the man (chap), Thursday, 19 January 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

What the fuck, I'm unemployed and haven't watched Neighbours in way over a year. What the fuck is wrong with me?

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 19 January 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

OK, I remembered. Effects *were* rubbish, weren't they.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

*roffle* at sad people piling into Harold's house to "sad" music! Interspersed with scenes totally obviously filmed in a choppy swimming pool.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:46 (nineteen years ago)

Oh fuckssake I'm going to have to run for my train again aren't I. The students are supposed to be watching fucking Manon des Sources for homework, not goggling at Karl Kennedy looking haggard.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha, using plane crash to fake your own death, classic or dud?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 January 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

That's the same lake that Paul nearly drowned in.

It's hard for the people in Harold's house to be too sad, as they are obv. keeping their jobs.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 19 January 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

There should be a spin-off show in which Connor and Dylan move to the outback, buy Harleys and start new lives as bounty hunters. Rocco could be the main villain.

chap who would dare to no longer work for the man (chap), Thursday, 19 January 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

shit i missed it

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 20 January 2006 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

It was GREAT. Max celebrating at the news that Izzy was alive with a clenched-fist "YES!" then seeing everyone else looking reproachful was boss.

Matt (Matt), Friday, 20 January 2006 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

Must... hold... toungue... and not... spoil... heh heh :D

Dudes, Neighbours just KEEPS GETTING BETTER from here on in. Batshit plane crashes, various deaths and missing persons, people going nuts..

I better shut up, I dont want to spoil it for you brits =)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 January 2006 01:03 (nineteen years ago)

(Unless someone wants a couple of pearler spoilers? :D)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 January 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

BTW there are TWO ex-big brother dudes in Neighbours now wtf. Stu and his brother Ned. I mean GAH come on. Theres only so many homely boy next door blonde farmboys we can have on one show.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 20 January 2006 02:00 (nineteen years ago)

Tell us about Harold's killing spree Trayce!

start a spoilers thread and tell us everything!

sunny successor (katharine), Friday, 20 January 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

Ned is one of the worst ever actors in a programme with a very impressive history of bad actors.

chap who would dare to no longer work for the man (chap), Friday, 20 January 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

one month passes...
Neighbours is confusing at the moment. I am watching online from the US and am still a little behind but the whole plane crash thing doesn't seem to have been made as big a deal of as it should have been. Four Ramsay Street residents are dead (well, three really but sshshshsh) and yet things are going on ridiculously normally: Stuart the Cunt continues to do his toss-pot policework, his twat brother is in a Gino-directed musical, Karl is looking for a new bird online, Susan is marrying that guy not giving two shits that her best friend is floating about in the pacific somewhere. WTF!!!!!!??????

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

And I know how wrong this is but terminally ill Alex's daughter is hot. But she's fucking 13!!!!! Where's Ken when you need something reassuringly inappropriate said?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:26 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I got the impression people were suitably messed up by the deaths. You'll see how much more so later on - give it another few months and some spectacular crazyshit goes on ;)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

Also, can they get over the "evil Izzy" thing already kthx? I'm getting tired of her conniving badly acted shit every week. And the fact anyone still falls for her batted-eyelash "I'll get my revenge tee hee" schtick.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:37 (nineteen years ago)

That plane episode - I'm calling a shark jump right there. The shark has been jumped.

ratty, Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

xpost

I still maintain that Izzy is a troubled, misunderstand woman just looking for someone to love and someone to love her. And hasn't she emerged from the plane crash with a newfound appreciation for other people? Or do you know something I don't (being in Australia yes)?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:40 (nineteen years ago)

the Izzy crap is heavily echoing the Cathy stuff that ended up in me being unable to watch The Bill. after a while you just get sick and tired of the nasty character not getting their comeuppance.

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Thursday, 23 February 2006 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

Spot on, Jim. Also, it makes me irrationally hate Rogue Traders as well.

No wait, they really are shit.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 February 2006 05:30 (nineteen years ago)

uptoeleven: she wont be nice for long, nor will Paul. Its getting tiring actually.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 23 February 2006 05:30 (nineteen years ago)

they should bring back 'sons and daughters'

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

wait...so who is dead and pretending to be dead?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

and what was that 80s show with david reyne where the chick got eaten by a crocodile but then she didnt and she had plastic surgery and looked like someone else entirely?

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

dillon was pretending to be dead, but isn't and now in the nick i think.

Sky is just so goddam gorgeous.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Young Doctors? Flying Doctors?

Sullivans? The only thing I remember about that is the opening credits where someone runs off with someone elses hat, and everyone laughs.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 23 February 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

haha. yeah thats about all i remember too besides them standing in front of an old house

no, i think the one im thinking of was based in surfers paradise? maybe?

Ha ha, Harold has gone bad again and is trying to murder Paul Robinson! Brilliant.

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

what made him go bad this time?

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

His son and grandaughter dying in the plane crash.

The crash has been a catalyst that's sent Neighbours into new realms of ludicrousness, and it's been all the better for it. People turning up at their own memorial services! Drew's ghost haunting Steph! (Offscreen) prison riots! Deathbed weddings! Siblings of obviously different ethnicities!

chap who would dare to be completely sober on the internet (chap), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I got very confused on Friday when i switched on to see Drew kissing Steph.

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

ten months pass...
I happened across this by accident searching for something so I thought I'd revive it.

Where you at now, Britishes? I've not been keeping up as I was further upthread, because in recent months they brought in a whole slew of new characters into one house (after Izzy left) and - and this is by Neighbours standards - they are THE WORST actors I have EVER seen in an Aussie soap. By god.

I especially hate that turdy police sergeant pig shooter fuckwit. Why did he get more of a major role? He's dreadful.

Is Skye gonna end up with Stingray? I hope so. I like Stingray. He's really cute.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 January 2007 03:51 (eighteen years ago)

They have moved in and are dull, somewhat putting me off neighbours. Sky's just had her baby and it's been nicked. It's all a bit turgid at the moment; more storylines involving Karl getting in a bit of a pickle and Susan thus having to raise her eyebrows are clearly reqired.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 28 January 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

And more of Paul's comedy evil, gurning while trying to change and be good!

But no more of the disturbing love affair with Lyn.

Stingray is not cute, but I always like how he gets drunk off like one beer. Episode titles are still super classic.

I like that they've stepped it up in to funny thriller mode, with the worst baby thief ever, she revealed her intentions way too soon - sitting there vigorously rubbing Sky's belly and talking to the unborn child.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 28 January 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

It was kinda hardcore the way she twatted Carmella with a pan full of boiling water, though. Bit bleak for Neighbours, that.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 28 January 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

That was great!

Nothing's too much for Neighbours, this is what I think. It can do everything!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 28 January 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

I like that they've stepped it up in to funny thriller mode, with the worst baby thief ever, she revealed her intentions way too soon - sitting there vigorously rubbing Sky's belly and talking to the unborn child.

They nicked this off Sunset Beach! (Annie and Caitlin)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 28 January 2007 13:12 (eighteen years ago)

Haha! How vigorous was the rubbing on Sunset Beach? It was weird.

I love that Neighbours has shameless steals of everything! My favourite being half the story of Ghost World (Sky). It almost always offers up something great - like quite recently, Harold and Lou having an in depth conversation about the storyline of Howls Moving Casle - I think it's the greatest unsung comedy of our times. YES! You sort of sense the writers have a lot of fun and try and fit in as much reference to things they like and just mess around.

I love that Katya's dodgy past is now so overblown she is MASTER CAR THEIF and that it also TURNS HER ON like a weird sexual addiction. Even if she has a massive face.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 28 January 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

You sort of sense the writers have a lot of fun and try and fit in as much reference to things they like and just mess around.

Oh absolutely, the thing that sets it above other crappy daytime soaps is it's self-awareness, the writers know it's crappy and are not above putting in the odd slyly subversive touch.

On the new people: I quite like the gambler and the ridiculously dizzy blonde. They are notthe worst actors in it, I'd give that honour to Katya and the dreadful Ned Parker.

chap (chap), Sunday, 28 January 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

The blind girl has, according to a close friend of mine "potential".

A friend of his said "screw potential, she's ready now".

I'm comforted by Rachael being 16 now, although she's gottenb rather irritating recently. Stingray can fuck off. Janelle is fantastic value for money especially for her "easy on the eyes, pretty easy on the brain too" comment re: Ned. He is an absolute imbecile and Carmella is far too good for him. Lynn can also fuck off.

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Sunday, 28 January 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

Janelle is terrific. She deserves Loulove far more than that awful Russian woman.

A friend of mine once had a graphic fantasy about a threesome with Susan Kennedy and Lynn Scully.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 January 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not aware of tummy-rubbing on Sunset Beach so much as Annie cackling "haha, I'm going to steal your baby and sell it to your mother, hahaha" at Caitlin whenever she fell asleep. Probably behind her hand in a pantomime baddie way. Worst baby thief ever = A WINNER IS ANNIE DOUGLAS! In one episode she even went on Ricki Lake to talk about it!

(Sunset Beach is clearly the greatest aware-of-how-crap-it-is soap ever, but Neighbours is pretty much a given in second place)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 28 January 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 29 January 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

OK, Katya having stone cold crim skills is pushing credibility even for Neighbours.

chap (chap), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

aldo, he's never mentioned it himself? Erm, he was shopping in Melbourne and they were filming Neighbours and they asked some of the crowd if they wanted to be extras and he put his hand up first. Then Craig McLachlan invited them (him, his brother, his mum) back to the set at Ramsay Street where they met some other people.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 8 February 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

What are you saying?

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:57 (seventeen years ago)

I think the titles are a little treat for anyone who watches from the start of the episode and enjoys a good pun. Snot like you have to record it and freezeframe playback the show or nuffin.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:12 (seventeen years ago)

neighbours would be the only thing on tv i'd watch if i was awake for it

Ste, Thursday, 20 September 2007 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

Her that plays Pepper is the worst actress ever. (I lolled at Dude Where's My Carmella though and I'm now getting to the stage where I don't want to go back to work because I'd miss Neighbours too much)

ailsa, Thursday, 20 September 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

That Adam guy... just waht... he makes Ned look like Ian McKellen

Not the real Village People, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Adam and Pepper have the least convincing chemistry I've seen for quite some time in Neighbours (or any other show, come to think of it)

ailsa, Thursday, 20 September 2007 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

Come off it Adam and Ned have to be pretty much on the same level! Now the chemistry between Rosie and Pepper on the other hand...

badg, Friday, 21 September 2007 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

Pepper is fine. She doesn't need to be anything other than the ditzy blonde. That Adam dude is horrendous - I blame the fact that the actor was transferred from Hollyoaks. I wish I didn't know that.

I am looking forward to th channel5 switchover for the sole reason that it should mean a neighbours omnibus. Not that neighbours causes me to put less energy into the job hunt but it does slightly temper the sorrow of unemployment. Working this week though and getting Ramsay Street withdrawal.

Upt0eleven, Friday, 21 September 2007 08:56 (seventeen years ago)

Range of Pepper's acting = pouting and sticking her breasts out and flouncing. I realise that, as a bloke, your opinion of the wrongness of this may vary greatly from mine.

ailsa, Friday, 21 September 2007 09:30 (seventeen years ago)

You forgot sneezing. She's practically Sarah Bernhardt.

Matt, Friday, 21 September 2007 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

I would love to be in a position to protest but I'm pretty sure that if she wasn't pouty and breasty I'd probably want to beat her to death with Paul's prosthetic leg.

Upt0eleven, Friday, 21 September 2007 09:50 (seventeen years ago)

Which reminds me of something Ive been pondering of late: When Paul woke up from his operation with no memory of the past 20-odd years, why his first thought not "Where's my fucking leg gone?"?

Upt0eleven, Friday, 21 September 2007 09:52 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I was wondering about that too.

ailsa, Friday, 21 September 2007 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

WAHT

CharlieNo4, Friday, 21 September 2007 10:48 (seventeen years ago)

Ah, guys, he did actually ask what had happened to his leg in hospital. I've not been watching obsessively, but I did catch that. Those of you with a better knowledge of these things - wasn't he always a bit of a scumbag? Or did they handily wipe his memory just to the point where he was kind of okay?

emil.y, Friday, 21 September 2007 12:05 (seventeen years ago)

He wasn't always quite such a c**t. A twenty year memory wipe would take him back before even I started watching (and only 5 years after neighbours started) when he was basically just the neighbours businessman and son of Jim. He had the whole twin thing. That was sweet.

Not the real Village People, Monday, 15 October 2007 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

rule number whatever of neighbours:

if there's ever an internal shot of a vehicle with many people in it having a jolly time, said vehicle is guaranteed to be in a crash with tragic consequences.

wedding days are particularly susceptible to this kind of event.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 10:21 (seventeen years ago)

Guarantee of tragedy ramped up to 11 if there are (1) secret lovers on board and (2) someone decides to get off at the last minute due to an unexpected twist of fate. Bonus!

ailsa, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 10:33 (seventeen years ago)

the ringo/carmella thing is a little ewww. he is spotty kid while she is beauty-spotted latin temptress.

i was just think it would be ironic if Fraser, having overcome the psychological problems that prevented him from walking, were to then be crippled fo' real. but neighbours wouldn't do that so it'll be someone else in a coma. ringo is my bet.

Upt0eleven, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 10:52 (seventeen years ago)

Also, didn't Frazer and Rosie go off in the car separately from the minibus which was going back to Ramsay Street? It's bound to be Ringo, so that Carmella can have some angst about whether she really wuvs him. And yes, it is EWWW but also hope-inspiring for spotty teenage boys everywhere.

ailsa, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 13:49 (seventeen years ago)

There was incest before on neighbours. But the BBC wouldnt show the kiss. I forget who it was, but it may have been Lucy Robinson. I'm sure someone here knows anyway.

pfunkboy, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

omg, I have a 5.30 appointment now

Matt, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 14:13 (seventeen years ago)

of course we saw the incest thing coming but i still didn't really think neighbours would do a brookside. are they gonna pretend that oliver and elle haven't actually "done it" or are they gonna go the whole hog, get elle pregnant and have her produce an alien offspring. i am intrigued.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

although my extended tenure within the world of the unemployed end tomorrow. what the f am i gonna do until the omnibus starts on 5?

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

The incest thing comes around every couple of years. First it was Brett and Danni Stark (allegedly - think the BBC cut all the good bits), then Serena nearly getting it on with Luka (Liljana's thought-to-be-stillborn son). At least nothing ever happened with them e.g. Harold would burst in every time they were about to kiss, etc etc. Actually didn't Liljana fancy the son as well, for a bit?

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure there was one before all that. Had no idea about the starks though.

Frogman Henry, Thursday, 8 November 2007 10:57 (seventeen years ago)

Neighbours has gone from super-lol to really terrible in the last couple of weeks. They better up the ante.

Not the real Village People, Thursday, 8 November 2007 23:37 (seventeen years ago)

It's never been anything other than embarrassing. My American housemate watches it. I can't fucking believe it.

Haven't heard yet, sorry.

ailsa, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:04 (seventeen years ago)

I've actually stopped watching Neighbours now, after 15 years of following it. Kind of a relief.

chap, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:07 (seventeen years ago)

Last time I watched it, Jim Robinson was lying on the kitchen floor with blue lips. I remember the lips vividly.

nate woolls, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

From five FAQ:

Neighbours

What time will you be screening Neighbours?
Our rights to the programme will not begin until 2008 and we will not make a decision on when to screen the progamme until closer to this time.

Will you be screening an omnibus edition of Neighbours?
We will also make a decision on this closer to the time.

onimo, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

that reads like five are treating neighbours devotees with scorn and disdain. i feel both cheap and used.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:14 (seventeen years ago)

five are rubbish, they seem to have skipped an entire series of Dawson's Creek (OK, that was five life, but same difference, innit?)

ailsa, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:16 (seventeen years ago)

It took them, what, two years to start screening Home and Away after ITV dumped it.

An OMNIBUS might make me change my decision to stop watching.

chap, Thursday, 17 January 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

I've just checked, it was actually two episodes of Dawson's Creek, but still, they were pivotal episodes in terms of plot development. And, to be fair, they might have shown them but my Sky+ thingie might not have picked them up.

That plane episode - I'm calling a shark jump right there. The shark has been jumped.

I think moley was onto something when he posted this. I haven't watched the neighbs in months - and me with no job and everything.

Trayce, Monday, 18 February 2008 02:19 (seventeen years ago)

i got into it quite a bit last year but i haven't watched it since i got my tv back and i'm not mad keen to get drawn back in

electricsound, Monday, 18 February 2008 02:26 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah same - the last ep I watched all-through was the last one of the season a few months back, with the ridiculous "disaster" at the night club everyone under 25 happened to be at all at once that fell on their heads.

Oh I did lol. I didn't stick at it to see if they killed anyone off at the start of this year though. Did they kill off Libby?

Trayce, Monday, 18 February 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)

Blimxor hope that wasn't a spoiler btw.

Trayce, Monday, 18 February 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)

hang on, they have an omnibus and they STILL ditched the re-runs of Dawson's Creek with about five episodes of the last series to go on Five Life to show a repeat of that day's Five showing? Fuck RIGHT off.

Last night I dreamt that I watched Neighbours for the first time in ages. There was a crew of vampires who'd come to Ramsey St to prey, in disguise as a troop of travelling opera singers. Lou was the only one who'd sussed them out, and the episode revolved around him getting sectioned for going around ranting about vampires. When woke up I was like 'fuck me Neighbours has got good recently, must watch again!'

unless you find yourself unexpectedly unemployed. in which case it is the single solitary silver lining to this particularly demoralising cloud.

Upt0eleven, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

I've actually been unemployed for a month now, and I still can't be arsed. I used to love it, as well. Last time I watched it was just a bunch of goodie-goodie kids.

chap, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

chap, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

paul is, it seems, returning to his wiley conniving old ways. neighbours has its default positions which, although it may stray from them, it ultimately always returns to.

Harold just came back onto the show (I dont know why he was gone though). Him and Lou are back into their grumpy old married couple routine.

Lou Carpenter seems to have adopted a man of peace persona, and has taken to mediating between the warring factions and chairing unsuccessful peace conferences. The last shot was of him standing in the middle of the street shaking his head sadly. I expected a single tear to roll down his cheek.

Last time I saw it, the mother of the kidnapped child had been given a bag containing some of their clothes. No idea what happened after that, I only ever catch the last couple of minutes of it sometimes when waiting for someone else.

any time I read about Neighbours in the tv guide etc I am always amazed at what nonsense they have going on and find myself going through spurts of watching it for a week then abandoning it for months. Recently we've had: Dee Bliss coming back from the dead to have a showdown with her doppleganger (played by the same actress), a polyamorous throuple, and Denise Van Outen as a cult leader. Teatime soaps weren't like that when I was young.

Neighbours has always a had a bit of an unhinged undercurrent, which is a major part of its appeal - cf Bouncer's Dream, or Jim taking magic mushrooms by mistake.

chap, Friday, 24 September 2021 15:01 (three years ago)

somehow revisiting old Neighbours clips ca late-90s/early-00s is always a very, um, "hauntological" experience for me. I think it's something to do with the incidental music they used at the time, especially during sad moments. there was one piece in particular with guitar that often used to play during the Dee's disappearance storyline, someone on YouTube made an interesting reconstruction, it almost sounds like Resident Evil save room music or an Akira Yamaoka composition from Silent Hill

Haven't watched regularly in over 20 years but every time I see a story about the final episode I feel a visceral pang of deep deep sadness, like death is near. I somehow thought I'd accepted my decline into middle age, but I believed the sunny Erinsborough counter-world would just exist eternally, generations of strange adventures for Rebecchis, Daniels, Robinsons. Not so. rip.

woof, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 14:26 (three years ago)

Ya me too. I've started watching the past couple of weeks - veers from tedious corny boreathon to weird in-jokes and random scenarios (just watched a whole 'corporate espionage' gag on the viewer within one ep). Will watch til the end.

kinder, Wednesday, 27 July 2022 14:56 (three years ago)

I was reading that they've been doing some really nice things for the die-hard fans, for example naming characters who appear in one scene after people who campaigned actively on Twitter against the axing.

I don't know how the two actors who play Susan and Izzy kept a straight face during the scenes last week when Izzy turned up in a relationship with the Kennedy son and said to Susan "maybe one day I can call you mum"

boxedjoy, Thursday, 28 July 2022 13:30 (three years ago)

that finale was really cheesy and it did make me roll my eyes a few times but overall I thought it was a really nice way to end the show. Kylie's appearance was utterly pointless though.

boxedjoy, Saturday, 30 July 2022 18:18 (three years ago)

Kind of delightful how much Guy Pearce committed to it - it was all him!

Cannot believe how monstrously and effortlessly Karl and Susan emotionally blackmailed Toadie into reorganising his entire life for their benefit.

technopolis, Saturday, 30 July 2022 19:07 (three years ago)

Cannot believe how monstrously and effortlessly Karl and Susan emotionally blackmailed Toadie into reorganising his entire life for their benefit.

This has convinced me to watch.

chap, Sunday, 31 July 2022 15:47 (three years ago)

Susan was also exceptionally cruel to Izzy in their last encounter - I think it was meant to come across as pity but telling someone "you need to learn to like yourself" is actually quite harsh.

I didn't really click until a friend mentioned it - the show has always been based on families and family units, so the finale having two lesbian couples deciding to pursue their relationships and a gay couple decide to stay in Ramsay St with their "chosen family," that was a nice reflection of how the concept of family has changed in the 37 years or so since the show began. Especially as Home & Away seems to have had no homosexual characters last more than a few weeks.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 31 July 2022 17:12 (three years ago)

Guy Pearce was great! I'm having fun clicking around the fan sites remembering mad old storylines. I watched this show for pretty much my entire life until the late 2000s. A nice way to go out, even if we never got to see Susan's rumoured arm tatts.
