Will I Get A Beatdown If I Start A Thread About The Kissing TIme?

Just to stop me from hijacking Rob's FAP thread. I'm terrified that I'm going to get a beatdown (with trucker hats) for this, but hey, if it's OK for Rocktor C to do it, then I guess it's OK for me.

I'm playing in this band called The Kissing Time now.

We're playing some gigs soon, one in Brixton and one in Liverpool. (I'm not sure if we have any ILX0rs in Liverpool, but it can't hurt.)

It would be really really nice if anyone wanted to come along and see us and cheer us on (or throw rotten tomatoes or dirty dronerock boys, whatever) coz it's been a long time since I played a gig, and I'm scared.

Monday, 18th October at the Brixton Windmill (Blenheim Gardens)
Tuesday 19th October at the Cavern, Liverpool (part of the IPO Festival)

I'll post a link to some of our MP3s if you feel like listening to us, we're textural 12-stringy jingle-jangle with pretty girly girl 4-part harmony.

Now please don't beat me for starting this thread. I'm sure it will degenerate into talking about trucker hats and grudgef*cking dirty rock boys soon enough.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

We are CanCon, BTW, just so you know. If that sort of thing is important to you.

Also, Stevem, would you mind putting something in the FAP calendar because I don't know how to do that.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm. it's a birthday that day, but he's arriving back from australia, so dunno if he'll want to do something. i'll come if i can! sounds fun.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, bring your birthday pal along, if he fancies.

I'm kinda scared. I'm cutting a TEST to play this gig and all, coz Monday nights are my course. Oh my. What's more important to me? Maths vs. ROCK'N'ROLL, FITE!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, can you make it up?

you're such a badass!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I will be made to take the test early. Sigh. It's maths, though, so it's easy peasy, not a problem.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(i keep thinking this is a thread about the kissing GAME)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing to do with the Kissing Game. Though you should probably try playing the Kissing Game with Pete, it's been a while since he got any action. In fact, PLEASE play the kissing game with Pete because I'm going to beat him to a bloody pulp soon otherwise...

(I didn't just say that, did I?)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

erm, what's the kissing game?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:10 (twenty-one years ago)

NO, NO, NO, please, don't start discussing the kissing game on the Kissing Time thread. I'm just trying to encourage Colette to snog our pianist because it's been ages since he got any action, and it's making him irritating. (When he finds this thread, he is going to murder me.)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i avoid kissing boys in bands these days.

thank god for ed, i felt like ilx was just a complicated kate/colette chatroom today...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

But... but... Pop Stars Good! Real Boys Bad!

Oh wait, except none of us are actually pop stars yet ever which makes him a real boy, and therefore bad.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

thank something or other for my puritanical naivity or something

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

But it's been discussed on FAP threads and stuff, Ed...

(Or was it on crush threads or dating threads or other things that you don't read?)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

is he my type?

(if you really want to know, ed, i can find you the thread where it's all explained)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't actually think so, Colette. I'm just teasing. ;-)

(Or trying to deflect actual tension, coz if I mock him online, then maybe I won't punch him IRL.)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, it's wicked that you're playing live again. Hope you have a blast!

(Ed, you'll enjoy me Barrying all over the kissing game thread)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

But... but... I'm scared! The last couple of gigs that I ever played were utter DISASTERS, so I didn't do it for a long time. I thought it would be different if I just played in a band with a bunch of mates, no pressure, etc.

It will probably be fun. So long as I manage not to FITE! with Peter. It's been a long time since I actually punched/sacked/pulled a gun on a bandmate onstage. This is why I've been only playing with girls (apart from Matthew, who is a drummer and therefore doesn't count, according to the rules of girlgroups) for the past five years or so. Boys in bands are just too much trouble.

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

(It's so not fair, now all the gay boy anal sex chatter is happening back on the other thread.)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I will come to Brixton. We played there a month ago at something called the Unpeeled Xmas picnic(actually *I* didn't - I was on hols, so they did it keyboardless) and the soundman was a bit of a dickhead, so I'm told. But wait....didn't you say you have yr own sound-geezer? So no probs then.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Who did the sound? Was it the Captain, or was it Tim?

The Captain is a NUT!!! But that's half the fun of playing there.

I remember when you were going to play the Windmill, because I would have come out for that, honest, seeing as how close it is to my house, so I was disappointed that you weren't going to be there. Blah.

But I will be very glad for the support if you come down!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know who did the sound - I will ask the others. They asked us back, but I don't think anyone's keen to do it. I think we'll play at the Bull and Gate one Sat soonish, so I'll be trying to get a big ILX posse to come. Maybe it will happen! We just had to cancel a gig in Manchester because the singer has work commitments! Bah! Nothing a sickie won't fix. Anyway, sorry I'm derailing this - it's abt your band, not mine. Looking forward to it!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

You can talk about your band, too! That way I will feel less self conscious about talking about mine.

Let me know about the B&G one, one of these days you *will* play on a night where I don't have to rehearse or something (now I no longer have an annoying boyfriend to row and stop me going to gigs).

I think we were supposed to play a B&G gig, but we ended up having to cancel it because it would have meant 3 gigs in a week, argh!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

We were on a real roll with gigs and we've now had to drop out of Birmingham, Manchester and Leicester on the Nightingales tour because of various work commitments that people have. It's a bugger. Our next one is in Shrewsbury with The 'Gales in 2 weeks time (Friday 1st Oct). Still at least we're getting asked to do stuff all the time, which is heartening.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, now I've just been told that this gig is "unconfirmed" and gosh golly, there's nothing on their website for October at all, so I've no idea if it's on or not... ARGH!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, no, it is confirmed, we just don't know for certain who we're playing with, or what time we're playing. Looks like it *is* free, though. Free is good!

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, it'll be a pleasure to see you playing out/up again. See you in Brixton if not before...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish to hear this rock and roll.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Cheers, Chuck!

Ned, have you downloaded our MP3s?

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Not yet. Where are they?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Danger Whore (kate), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

If nobody shags Peter, I'm going to have to do it. And I'd really rather not. However, I will Take One For The Team, 'cause that's the kinda gal I am.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Thursday, 18 November. Bull and Gate. 10:15 pm. £4 with flyer. Playing with Speedway and Drums Over Heaven.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa, that's like, confirmed now and stuff? When did that happen?

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! that means i don't have to go to brixton again!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hooray, glad this is happening! Would love to come along, but I fear a monday night in london, with no holiday left for the next day, hmm could prove tricky. Don't be scared, aint nothing to it, but to do it!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

We'll just have to come and play in Cambridge, then, PinX0r!

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Cambridge, eh? Doubt any of us would have a problem with that. The £1 bus goes to Cambridge, right?

Catty (Catty), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

We can play at the Portland Arms! I love the Portland!

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn having moved to the sticks. Pls come to Cambridge ladeez!! We can eat in the Rainbow Cafe again K!!!
And of course y'all can stay over & play with the kitties!!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

YAY! Kitties!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 17 September 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

If I should happen to be out drinking in Liverpool on the 19th (which, as it's my birthday is a distinct possibility) I may well stick me head round the door. If only it wasn't the cavern though...

Matt (Matt), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You should play in Wisconsin, Kate.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Wisconsin = SEX HOURS OF CHEESE!!!

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what that means, but it sounds absolutely correct.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I should be able to make this, I think.

(Blimey I can't believe we're organising social events for November already. We'll be starting the Christmas party thread before we know it)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember what it means... I think it had something to do driving from... Chicago to Minneapolis? And you had to go through Wisconsin to get there? And someone was trying to convince us to make the trip, knowing how much I liked cheese, by saying it was Six Hours of Cheese, but they made a freudian slip?

But it is now burned into my brain. Wisconsin = SEX HOURS OF CHEESE!!!

x-post, we SHOULD actually schedule the Xmas part round about now, because that way we will get in ahead of the conflicts!

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I will try v hard to make the Brixton gig. That is the day after my birthday so chances are I shall be in London anyway.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 18 September 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, The Kissing Time? What kind of girlie name is that? I bet it's wibbling twee rubbish!

Fuck off when you've got a real band, you devious jailbait chasing degenerate crackwhore!

trolly troll troll, Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

*ignores above idiocy, listens to mp3s*

Hey, these songs are very nice! *merry* Is it wrong to say I'm thinking a bit of Lush in their quieter moments?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

LUSH!?!? Somehow appropriate for that devious old drunk!

trolly troll troll, Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You are an extremely clever individual.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I am clever than a slut who still thinks she's a teenager! Grudgefucking dirty libertines, indeed!

trolly troll troll, Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Bwah hah hah! You owe me a drink and it's your round! Did I really miss bareback boy butt-fest or were you making that up to torment me?

Ha-hem, anyway. Thanks for the nice words, Ned. Yeah, we get that Lush comparison a lot. It's the 12-string and girlie harmonies, I guess.

The 120 Days Of Streatham (kate), Monday, 20 September 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
BUMPITY-BUMP!

Right, I'm definitely coming along to this as I am in London from Sunday through to Tuesday. What is the windmill like? Is it a good place for a few beers before the gig? I shall be off work so could get there quite early.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 11 October 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Eek! I didn't see this bump! Oh no!

Yes, the Windmill is a great little pub, Mark. It's kind of an Old Man Pub in the afternoon, but the drinks are cheaper then and the locals are really friendly. I don't know what time we're getting there - don't even know what time soundcheck is! We're assuming sort of 6-sih, but you're welcome to come and hang out with us for added extra "I'm with the band" Cool.

Anyway, I just wanted to revive this thread to remind people it was happening, and also I needed a place to publish this particular link to show what kind of stupidity insanity we get up to during rehearsals.

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(This will hopefully teach our singer to never ever ever be TWO HOURS LATE for a rehearsal because she is GETTING A HAIRCUT!!! I mean, honestly! Yeah, sure, she has good hair. But TWO FREAKING HOURS FOR A HAIRCUT!!! Humph!)

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

aye but that's rock n roll, kate. i shall be at the windmill (for i am in fact one of those friendly locals)!

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah for friendly local Tracer!

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, look who's currently at number 47 in my most-listened-to-artists list!

http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/Jimdoo/

:)

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nestled in between Steve Hackett and ELO, which sounds like a damn fine place to be, to me.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Awww, now thanks for taking off Annie to listen to Peter Saw Another Man's Penis!!!

(OK, I have no idea what Annie sounds like, but I hear she's popular around these parts.)

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's everyone else here loving her so much that's inspired me to have a listen. She's not as good as everyone says. That Heartbeat song is nice, but the rest of it's a bit meh. The last Dannii Minogue album was better.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is not about Annie!

I'm up for hanging out with the band cool.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah. Maybe that will cheer me up as I'm in kind of a rubbish mood today. I sure hope that this changes by the time the gig comes around...

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Good luck for tonight ladeez (and blokey) hope it's rocking! Sorry I can't be there in person, but I'll be there is spirit definitely!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, PinX0r!

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Just dropped you a little line btw!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks... will check mail now.

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

damn... i really wanted to come to this, but i'll be at home waiting for last-minute houseguests to arrive. have a rad show!

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't actually particularly feel like going at this point. :-(

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh Kate I'm really sorry but I have been a FULE and unthinkingly made plans for this evening. Hope it goes well though and I'll definitely be at the Bull & Gate next month.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Right. I'm going home. Do you think my band will actually remember to pick me up on their way to the gig? Taking bets now...

Danger Whore (kate), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey how did it go?

Did anyone go?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I played drums for the Kissing Time. :(

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You're in luck, they don't have one! I went, and the band was great. Kate played synths and guitar and drum machine, and got some backup harmonies from her bandmates that were just soaring and gorgeous. She claimed not to have been able to hear herself, or the others, but that doesn't seem possible, because everyone was right on the notes. It was one of the quirkier songs of the night that I liked the best, though, the ramshackle one where your other piano player sings lead, Kate. I like the way that one bounces along, repeating itself but not quite, kind of like a fugue. LIVE MUSIC GO!!!!

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am envious that you have seen this rock.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good - I am looking forward to the Bull and Gate!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought they were great too! I especially appreciated Beautiful Too and was mouthing along to the words as I've been listening to an mp3 of it for a while now. And it was good to hear Just Like Heaven with female vocals for the first time!

Tracer, did I ignore you? If so I didn't mean to, sorry.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, at first I thought that said Just Like Honey.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure Kate would be happy to oblige!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Gah, I can't be bothered to log out and log back in as myself.

Three cheers and a hip hip hooray for Mark H and Tracer and Emma for making the long-ass (or not) trek down to the Windmill.

Windmill gigs, you can never hear anything. That's the way it is. Ah well, it was our first gig and I'm glad that it happened. Was shit scared for half the night, then suddenly, halfway through the set, remembered "Oh yeah, that's who I am."

Liverpool. The traffic, oh the traffic. Much better set, (much larger audience) and oh, the band we played with, The Harrisons, (you are the cutest boy!... Goodbye!)

We were good and did not play Sock while we passed Tamworth. Decided that it's Ley-Lines that cause random traffic queues. Dark Satanic Power Stations and Dark Satanic Road Chefs. And the only way to deal with traffic jams is to put the Spice Girls on, flash the lights on and off, and do dance routines. Not only will this amuse you, but it will win you fans in the other cars.

Must go sleep now.

Not Catty but Katie, actually (Catty), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, and Roxy, come play drums for us, Bobby G stylee!

We were just talking about doing a cover of "Just Like Honey". From now on, we will only do covers with the words "Just Like..." in the title.

Still Katie (Catty), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry i couldn't come to this, kate, i was getting back from spain that evening, and had still more transportation fun getting back to london.

do you still have a show in november? i'd like to check it out, if so...

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

MarkH I had no idea you were there. Me and Emma were sort of tending to ourselves, though, and we left shortly afterwards.

Kate we could hear you fine - you just weren't LOUD enough. And the PA placement - WTF.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night I was reading an old ILX "What do you look like thread" and this male friend of mine saw that picture of Kate kicking her leg into the air whilst playing the guitar and he went "Damn. DAMN!"

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And so he should!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

try fancy talking more

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys kick ass. Thanks everyone who came out!
We've got two gigs in November -- one is in two weeks at the Pleasure Unit in Bethnal Green. Maybe certain slash-infested smackheads will lurch by! Maybe we'll play the ridiculous song we made up about them! Maybe Ned will fly to London! wheeeee!

This Time It's Actually Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to once again empatically state that I am opposed to this game called Sock.

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe you stopped me from playing Sock. Dammit. OK, none of us were on acid, which is kind of a prerequisite of playing Sock. But still.

What day is our gig at the Pleasure Unit? 4th November. I just checked. According to the lovely bassist from our lovely support band in Liverpool it's lovely and purple. La la la la laaaa. (He complimented my Jazzmaster. I shall heart him forever.) 18th November for the Bull and Gate.

Hrmmm. So random boys like my legs, do they, Roxy? Maybe I should start standing up to play again.

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Well there's that K & also the fact that Roxy must be your new drummer!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 21 October 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is this Pleasure Unit venue? I think I will come to this!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Bethnal Green.

I'm scared of Bethnal Green.

Coz Bethnal Green is really PEOPLE, DAMMIT!!! BETHNAL GREEN IS MADE OF PEOPLE!!!!

Danger Whore (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm. the combo of your band name and the venue makes for interesting reading in my dairy: kissing time, pleasure unit.

i think i'm going to put 'kate's band' instead. just in case anyone at work wants to look over my shoulder. and stuff.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!! I didn't even notice that.

I love how dirty that sounds.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like Bethnal Green, to visit occassionally!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Really?

I suppose most times I've been there, I've had a really good time. (Usually something to do with Charlie No.4's houseparties.)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

You should totally record and release a live demo CD "Kissing Time at the Pleasure Unit".

A Million Talking Hot Dogs (AaronHz), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll bet Catty will be all over that.

(Tee hee, this just gets smuttier and smuttier.)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie No.4's houseparties

that's true...if it's the same crowd as that one party we square-danced at, is it ok if i have a panic attack and hide in the corner of your concert? bethnal green makes me shy!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently the Pleasure Unit is very purple and retro and looks lovely, (at least according to the lovely bassist of the lovely Harrisons) so I doubt it would induce panic attacks.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Really?
Yeah! My friend used to live there though & we used to go for the best curries there!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, see, Bethnal Green is great for the company, not for the place!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hell yeah!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we not square dance at the gig instead?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

We have a song in 3/4!!! people attempted to Waltz to it on Tuesday night. So a squaredance would be great! Maybe during Drunk Song, that's got a bit of a hoe-down feel to it. They were trying to get me to do the thigh-slap thing during the beatboxing break, but unfortunately I have to play the guitar during that bit. If anyone wants to squaredance, thighslap, play spoons, etc, feel free!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

should i be practicing my square-dancing calls, then?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, definitely.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll bring me washboard.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(Now why was I making strange washboard jokes in Liverpool? Oh yeah, cause Der Fehruerurur was making daft non sequiturs about Gerry and skiffle.)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, seriously, I want spoon players and washboard on stage for the last song. Collette, you want to come on stage and do square-dance calls over the beat boxing, you hop right on up.

When I first read K's post about CharlieNo.4's houseparties I thought i said "Charlie No. 4's housepanties." Which I like much better for Kissing Time and the Pleasure Unit.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

When I come over in July can there be a night of Kissing Time rock show?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, let us know the dates far enough in advance, and we'll do our best!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

We should give Ned his very own show!

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Even if it has to be in our living room. Hail, Slantytown!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Slantytown can totally accomodate a ROCK SHOW! We are totally Wings-friendly.

Mademoiselle Kitty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO, ANY KISSING TIMES SHOWS (OR VANS OR TOURBUSSES) ARE OFFICIALLY WINGS FREE ZONES!!!!!!!!!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

oi dangerwhore, can you send us a link to mp3s pleaze?

DVD (dickvandyke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Just a minute, I've got one more Pete and Carl tonguing each other photo to post and then I'll find them for you...

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Slantytown is a pro-Wings area.
Besides, when everyone else is conked out at 3am on the M1, certain drivers should be allowed to play whatever they want in order to stay awake/keep everyone alive.

www.geocities.com/thekissingtime/music.htm

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

NOT IF IT INVOLVES WINGS!!! I WILL DRIVE BEFORE I TOLERATE WINGS!!!

I'm fucking serious, man. I will tolerate a lot in the tourvan stereo, but if you put on Wings, you can just pull over at the nearest service station and drop me off, I'd rather hitchhike home.

http://www.geocities.com/thekissingtime/music.htm

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

you'll drive?!?!

*takes note* Band on the Run = additional driver.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(You do know that I can't actually drive.)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hey boom person, are you releasing anything on cd or anything like that?

DVD (dickvandyke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

when it comes to manual, it's not like I really can, either.
But four stalls on Archway, I feel pretty good about that -- especially when the record is seven.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"Boom person"? You talking to me? It's Katie, actually... ;-)

But, erm, yeah. I have a solo album in the works. It's got, like a symphony on it and everything. Email me if you want a copy coz I don't know if I have the dedication to actually start that record label I keep talking about...

x-post... now there's a lyric for the gigantic diss song if we ever write it "Seven stalls on Holloway road..."

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps for the song DF and I wrote all those years ago, "The Biggest Mooch in England."

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i want a copy actually, the band name is very nice. sort of makes me think of a sexy band/sound actually.

DVD (dickvandyke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, "seven stalls on holloway road" sounds a lot like "i could let you go"....

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Has anyone got a couch I can borrow... for a month or two... coz socialism means that I eat your food, but don't have to do your dishes..."

(Not really, no. Can you imagine how insufferable he'd be if he were a "Socialist"?)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(I like the idea of Ironic Pro-Capitalism better.)

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post, whoops... sorry, we're trying to write a song here...

seriously, DVD, email me yer snail mail address and I'll send you a CD of both Kissing Time stuffs and my (ha-HEM) vanity solo stuff.

((Maybe if you're really good, we'll put our song about Pete Libertine on it, mwah hah hah hah hah.))

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

*frantically emails*

if i send a postal order for 50p could you maybe chuck in a libertines cover esp. for me? to give it that personal touch?! ;)

DVD (dickvandyke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, in order to record a libs cover, we'd have to actually LISTEN to one of their songs, dammit... But we are whores, we do not care. If it'll make you like us, we'll do it, hah!

(Dibs on What Katie Did, if we do, though, Catty.)

You do know that we sound nothing like the Libs, though, right, DVD? If anything, we sound a bit like Lush, actually. (What *does* Miki smell like?)

And also, Catty, got to make sure we throw in lines about being "Bereft of music!!!" and also a bit about being too skint to cough up the dosh for rehearsal but not too skint to buy drugs at Charlie's party... mwah hah hah, how many pennies in the swearjar for that?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

wait you sound like lush? can i get a copy?

kephm (kephm), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Kephm, email me as well, then. *You* will actually like it.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, thanks. check your inbox

kephm (kephm), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

ditto

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, so you do listen to them! foiled!

look forward to checking out the lushery.

DVD (dickvandyke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

DF sez NO FEKKIN' WAY to a Libs cover.
But we're a democrazy so we can outvote him.
He is up for "Pete Just Saw Another Man's Penis" live so I think that's fair enough.

Right... need to work s'more on the new lyrics to "The Biggest Mooch in England".....

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what? DF can SIT IT OUT AT THE BAR like I'm gonna sit out Slapper McCrack. We're doing it. BUT I WANT MY FIFTY PENCE!!!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Where did you find that?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

POPJUSTICE!
but sadly the link didn't really lead to more.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

But since those are the two cute members of McFly, and StayPuft I mean, Tom isn't mugging in the middle of the picture, I'd say that's OKAY!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

No cool pop star was ever named Fletcher. Sigh.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

how am I supposed to concentrate at my job interview later when all I'm going to be thinking about is McFly slash?

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I just found a picture of Carl snogging Pete (in drag). I take it I shouldn't post that for you, then?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

...are you kidding? Of course you should!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh damn, sorry, that's the wrong one. Hang on... (At least I think it's Pete in drag and not Moira/Tracey)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post, DOUBLE SORRY that it's Getty Shittages.

Aye-aye, Cap'n Banks...

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I note the phrase it's "it's pretty kickass" on the website.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

do pete and carl ever not kiss each other? i mean, do they leave their groupies stranded having to watch them tongue each other around the hotel room while they have nothing better to do than slump on the couch?

DVD (dickvandyke), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Who knows, maybe the groupies get off on it?

Heck, I'd snog Ruth for 50p! Kissing Time, did you say? ;-)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I snogged Ruth last week in the movie theatre in front of Peter. it was pre-show entertainment.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

OHMIGOD, Peter must have gone beserk! He was bad enough backstage in Liverpool!

Maybe we should all lez up and then he will just explode. ;-)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

He didn't seem terribly impressed. DF was a bit annoyed he missed it, though.
Although for someone who had no problem giving Ruth's left one a big ol' squeeze, he got pretty squirrelly last night when Ruth had a conversation with him in nothing but a towel.
Should we just write our own band slash?

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad Dr. C notes there is no ! in "it's pretty kickass".

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

There really is no point to writing Kissing Time slash. We already are the indie Fleetwood Mac.

However, could we possibly slash DF and Peter? Or is that just toooo icky to contemplate? Or would the hilarity make our heads explode?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

slash DF and Peter

Cut to: Catty having absolutely no problem with that.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think we can get Peter to wear eyeliner. We threw glitter on him one night, though, and he looked really frikkin' hot.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

...you know, for peter.

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Another few years in a band with us, and he'll end up in drag... ;-)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

another few weeks, you mean.....
I bet we can get DF in drag. we almost got him to dress up as Baby on Spice Girls Night at G-A-Y....

Catty (Catty), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 1 November 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Catty, that's just disgusting. Please never do that to me again.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

K - you on email???!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's unlikely i'm going to be able to make this, i'm going to be in exeter until at least 5 it seems. sorry.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

email sent!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That flyer design is gorgeous.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The Pleasure Unit? Is the bar called the G-Spot?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

DO NOT FEED THE KATE.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Any idea what time-ish yr onstage, Kissing Time people?

this is U&K - I have seceral things to do that night, but here's hoping I'll be near the venue when you're on, it being 500m from my front door an' all...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

several obv :-(

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrrrggghhh... that's the one freaking thing it doesn't say on the flyer. I don't know what time we'll be on. We're second from last. I think that makes us on about 10-ish?

Glad yer house is so close, Chuck. At least now we know where the afterparty is! Hurrah! All back to Charlie's!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the one freaking thing it doesn't say on the flyer

FUCK! I didn't put that on it?!?!? i am so challenged.
oh, oops, I didn't put OUR time on it. silly me.

We are on at 10, so that's plenty of time to be anywhere and still be to Bethnal Green in time. some come on down y'all etc.

Catty (Catty), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(p.s. Matt DC = ruler of my world 'cause he likes the flyer. teeeeee!)

Catty (Catty), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

10 is good.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

You should rename the band 'The Kissing Time With Tongues'.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a band called tongues we could play with?

does someone want to start one right now?

Catty (Catty), Monday, 1 November 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that we should play the Kissing Game between songs. In fact, that's a good idea with what we should do with the songs during which various people don't play. There should be one song where each of us doesn't play, and we have to go in the audience and see how many people we can get to snog us. And at the end, whoever wins ... uuuhhh... doesn't have to carry the Marshall to the cab. :-)

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

there was no Kissing Game @ the Windmill.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

hey dudes -- we moved over to the new site! www.thekissingtime.com! keen!

Catty (Catty), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There weren't enough people at the Windmill to play the Kissing Game. :-(

OK, there were Peter's groupies/stalkers, but that means he would have won, and we can't have that.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, look. A picture of me from Liverpool. Except you can barely see me at all. Which is just the way I like it. Where *is* Darren?

http://liverpoolbeatlescene.com/images/K115.JPG

Oh wait, I think I see a 12-string sprouting from Ruth's shoulder.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm planning on getting to this at about nine - any idea if the other bands are any cop?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea at all!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there ca.9 too.

There are people sitting down in that photo. How does this square with 'it's pretty kickass'?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Its okay to sit down in dronerock though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Are TKT DRONEROCK???

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

We're not dronerock. Unfortunately. I just can't afford a keyboard stand.

And Peter... I don't know WTF is up with him. He sits down because he thinks he is Rufus Wainwright or something.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Except you can barely see me at all. Which is just the way I like it.

I've been wondering about that. Coz one of the things that had occurred to me was how different Kissing Time is from yr old band, not only in the sound of the band but also that you used to be the centre of attention but now you can lurk in the background. There's pros and cons of both of course.

I would love to come to the Pleasure Unit but I'm already beat from excessive partying and drinking. A trip to London and having to work on Friday would prolly kill me.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I can now exclusively reveal that Kate will be standing up at the Pleasure Unit. [heh heh... she's getting it up. heh heh.] And therefore there will be dancing. And maybe maracas because I will be making a pre-show pit stop on Denmark Street.

Peter, however, sits down on principle. Because you see he plays piano, dahling. He is a musician -- an artist. The rest of us are just, um....... hacks? Sleeper ChiX0rs? Every Woman In Rock stereotype all on one stage?

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 4 November 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

If Peter is a *MUSICIAN* darling, then maybe do you think that could mean he could play *ON* the beat for a change? [/meow]

The thing I hated most about my old band was having to be the centre of attention. I'd much rather be a MUSICIAN, DARLING lurking in the background. AFter being a session player for ten years, that was the role I felt more comfortable in.

Anyway. I'm nervous as heck about tonight. Especially after rehearsal last night. It felt like we were rehearsing in a living room. Wait, it was actually smaller than the living room we do usually rehearse in. Gah. What shall I wear? It's hard to get a care on about jumping about onstage when Current Events have got you so bad. Or maybe that's an excuse to go all punk and leap about and break shit because Bush will bomb us all soon anyway. Sigh.

Sorry, forgot that rule, just like Peter did last night - just don't mention The Election!

Please don't get maracas. I already have some if you really want me to be Bez.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

When I joined Fr4ctured they told me 'no sitting down to play EVER, even at rehearsals'. So I don't.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm standing up tonight. Even on the songs I don't do anything but sing on. I've sequenced all the keyboard bits except for one song. I will feel like Bez. Maybe I can show off my Freaky Dancing technique. Can I drag cute boys onstage to dance with, like Freaky Trigger?

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't come anymore. I'm going to the glitzy tuxedo-festooned UK premier of I ¢¾ Huckabees instead. Sorry all, offer I couldn't refuse - TKT will play again, but the (possible) chance to meet Jason Schwarzman doesn't come around all that often.

You can still use my house for the aftershow though obv!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck, you suck. :-(

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Thursday, 4 November 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I bloody missed the gig. A ONE HOUR wait on a broken down train between Clapham Jct and Vauxhall got me into Waterloo at 9.45. Still time to make it... Eventually get on the tube and a pigging signal failure held my tube for 20 minutes between Waterloo and Embankment. What a nightmare. I will be there on 18th - I'll leave home a day early just to make sure! Sorry.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 5 November 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah no! Kate - I hope it was rocking!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It was. But in a totally different way to how I was expecting. I agree with Tracer about the piano-led one being great, even if it was missing instruments (Kate you make a great Bez and a better waltzer). Also your keyboard dude has some great poses - I especially like the 'grab the mic and wrench it to the side at the end of a line' one.

But I think the rockier one towards the end where Kate played this snakey guitar line was my favourite. And without wanting to give too much away, the end of the last song is hilarious.

But yes, the mic sharing did make it look like you were singing lovingly to one another. It was quite sweet really.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 09:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Aww! Cheers for the fill in matt. I need to get a cd from kate!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, thanks, Matt. That is making me feel a lot better about last night. I was really depressed until I read your post, and now I feel a bit happier.

I mean, all in all, it wasn't that bad. There were a lot of obstacles, but I think we overcame them.

First off, our singer FELL OFF A BUS on the way to the gig, and, props to her, performed with bandaged hands and a mild concussion. But it meant no trumpet. Next, we can't run our keyboards through the soundboard. So I'm reduced to running sequences and Freaky Dancing for half the songs. Next, we find out that even though we've brought extra mics, they have the wrong kind of input, so there's 3 mics for 4 people, one of whom is sitting down. Ah well, as I said, if there's not gay pr0n about us on the internet by tomorrow, I'll be disappointed. (I'm also disappointed that Ruth called Carl, so Cat and I had to trade off being Pete for the night.)

Oh yeah, speaking of which, jeez. What a mad place. The most uptight bar manager and the most laidback soundman in the world. They would have been a hillarious team if it wasn't so shambolic. The night is called "Don't Forget Yer Bass Amp" but they have both a bass amp and a guitar amp, which no one has bothered telling us, so there are way too many amps as everyone has brought one. So we're told that we have to store our extra amps and guitar cases "on the landing upstairs". I drag my stuff upstairs, and realise it's the entry of a house. And just as I'm grilling the manager going "Whose house is this? How many people live here? I'm from New York, I'm paranoid, those fuckers will steal anything that isn't nailed down, amps, cases, elections..." right then, I see A Junkie slithering up the stairs. (on reflection, I don't think it was actually him. Too tall.) OK, great. Our spare stuff goes in a cab back to Slantytown.

Anyway... despite all that, I think we pulled off an OK show. It's just kinda really disheartening when you're sitting waiting to go on and there's NO ONE there. Cat and I were all "fuck this, let's go next door and maybe just maybe we'll come back to find the club full of our friends." Which, luckily, it was. Phew.

Ruth and I waltzed. I danced like Bez. Peter fell off the stage. Poor Ruth; I tried to snog her at the end of Just Like Heaven, forgetting that she had a broken face. (That's the only song I can think of that fits yer description, Matt.)

Anyway, massive props to those of you that made it out, props to you that tried (aw, sorry, Dr. C, that really suX0rs with the trains) and, well... hopefully the B&G will be better.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, yeah. Nearly forgot.

WHAT'S BROWN IN BETHNAL GREEN?!?!?

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Man I wanna come to one of these gigs to support you guys! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaaawwww, we would love you to come! You would have a good time. I would make you get up on the stage to participate in the Freaky Waltzing.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, what is brown in Bethnal Green?

(I'm going to regret asking this).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to freaky waltz with you guys!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I am so pissed off I missed this

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 5 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

What's brown in Bethnal Green? The man on the stairs, I think.

::lays finger aside nose::

Errr... I don't know. We don't have a "what's brown in Bethnal Green" yet. Need to come up wtih one, quick!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"about ten quid a bag"

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!!!

Chuck just won.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

well, we know what's brown in Smackney. And cheers to those who made it -- it was so nice meeting Matt DC, whom I have been Friends with for a while.

That stage was so weird. The swirly lights were pretty and everything but I couldn't see shit. The brightest light in the room was the one over the bar. And as for sound -- I'm singing right next to Carl I mean Ruthie and I can't even hear her -- not through the monitors, not in my ear, nothing. I couldn't hear my bass either even though I was standing in front of the amp (I could feel it though) -- I kept staring at my fretboard to make sure I was in the right place.
And sharing mics kinda sucked 'cause it meant I had to actually turn my back on the audience and I really don't want my ASS to be part of the show.
But I think we were okay for a band that like to fall down a lot. ;)

What's brown in Kentish Town?

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Monday, 8 November 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

So this is tomorrow I guess. I feel panicked right now.

I've been disappointed that people haven't come to the last few shows, so now that all these people are telling me that they are coming to *this* show I feel pressure to be something actually organised other than the usual Heartbreaking Work Of Shambolic Genius.

Sorry, I know I'm not allowed to use the word "shambolic" as Peter has put the ix-nay on it (ramshackle, my ass!) which means perhaps I should put it on a T-shirt to annoy him.

Anyway, I'll be coming from my job interview so I may be in a bloody suit.

I'm suffering from crisis of confidence and wondering "what am I doing in this band anyway?" at the moment (due to unrelated things) and if this gig isn't fun, then it may end up being my last with the band.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no Kate! What's up?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Stick with it! Rock and rolls needs Kate.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

what time will you be on stage, kate? i'll definitely be there as long as it's not like 7 o'clock (i'm giving a talk in oxford until six, i think).

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I am coming. really i am. even though i missed the gig right outside my house, i'm coming to the one miles away (and, it must be said, close to t'other half's abode). woo.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't make this unfortunately as I've got other plans for tomorrow. Please don't leave the band though, because then I'll never get to see the full trumpet-enhanced non-Kate-as-Bez version and that will make me sad.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sticking with Rock'N'Roll, I'm just not sure that this band is the one for me. Stupid band politics shite is interfering with my friendships, and that makes me feel uncomfortable. And I'm just not sure that I love the genre we seem to be in enough to justify the amount of work we will have to put in. I just don't want to be in a jangly indie band. I want to be in a girlpop band or an artrockdronepop band and I'm not sure there's enough of either of those things in it.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't be writing this stuff somewhere that my bassist will read it, but I don't think they're unaware of my concerns anyway.

I don't know what time we're on, as usual. I'm thinking 9-ish. it won't be before 8, that is for sure.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus, Darren just said that Morrissey solo was better than The Smiths, and that The Smiths arrangements were shit because they had guitar solos.

Fair enough, he might have a point that The Smiths are overrated, for many, many reasons. but their having GUITAR SOLOS is not one of them.

I have actually just handed in my notice over this.

this is a fucking bloke who will listen to the fucking Las, but thinks the Smiths are overrated because they had guitar solos. I have quit.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Was he trying to wind you up?

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked him that and he said no. I think he actually believes it.

I asked him if he burned out on the Smiths, because that I could understand, like all of us who listened to the Smiths so much when we were teens that we became disenchanted and couldn't do it any more. But no, he never cared that much for them.

It's not a wind-up. Like, what is the POINT of being in a shit jangly indie band if you don't want to be The Smiths? i don't get it. I don't even *like* shit jangly indie bands, but I put up with it because I love the Smiths.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm moving there and we're starting a girlpopartrockdrone band.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

girlart popdrone

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I think "popgirl artdrone" sounds better. Or maybe just "popgirl drone".

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really care about the popdrone, I just like the girlart.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

So is this yr last gig with TKT, Kate? That's a real shame if so.

Stay and subtly move them in a direction you want, is what I say. The Smiths thing is mentalism, but does it really matter?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 18 November 2004 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Popgirl Artdrone would be freaking GRATE!!! because it sounds very Warholian, which is always a good thing. Pop Girl '04, oh yeah!

Talked to Catty for quite some time after rehearsal when Smiths-Hater was at the supermarket and it's not like my concerns aren't shared by other people in the band. There is a very distinct split in the musical tastes in the band and I don't think it's ever going to resolve itself. There has been some preliminary discussion of the band actually splitting into two, but who knows.

I mean, there's always been a split in tastes, and I never thought this would be a permanent situation. I've always felt like I was filling in a friend's band, rather than this being *my* band. If it were something that I could just turn up and play, fair enough, but it needs a lot more work and effort and input than that.

It's just that I want to balance that girlpop element with something a lot more interesting than stupid hackneyed (heh) indie jangle. (Yeah, the Smiths thing is a red herring, but it's more like the straw that broke the camel's back.)

Anyway, we shall see what happens tonight...

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 18 November 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I see. The split-tastes thing is always difficult, but actually I think it can make for a more interesting band if a way can be found to accomodate them. The problem is if *your* taste isn't getting much airtime.

TKT : "Hmm, this song could do with a little bit of something different for the middle eight. Any ideas, anyone?"

Kate : "Let me see... Try THIS.(fiddles with FX pedals) : SCREEEEEEEE! WAAAAHHHHH! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!....(infinite drone noises)

Eleven Minutes passes, final noises die way.

Kate : "How was that? Maybe a stick some 4-part harmonies on between 7 and 8 minutes?"

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 18 November 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

If you don't feel like it's *your* band (and I don't think you mean *your* band as in MYSONGSONLYMYIDEASONLY, but more of *your* band as in "I have something invested in it and I care") then start another band that you can love being in!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(with me)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(or without if you'd like to get on with things soonish)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 18 November 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's just that I want to balance that girlpop element with something a lot more interesting than stupid hackneyed (heh) indie jangle.

Maybe you should balance it with stupid hackneyed indie jungle.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! That's my schtick!

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

the stupid hackneyed indie jingle jangle jungle goes on at 10:15 for those of you interested in catching this soap opera live.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

more of *your* band as in "I have something invested in it and I care")

That's exactly what I mean by "my band". not just "I have something invested in it" but "I get something out of it".

Anyway, I'm done with my stupid crappy job interview. I think I impressed the CEO but intimidated the crap out of everyone else. Argh. He wanted to hire me for another part of the conglomerate that does data analysis. We shall see... i think it may be waaaayyyy too corporate for me, but whatever.

Hackneyed Indie Jungle? that would be great! Lynskey, do you want to start a side project together?

The problem with the split tastes thing is that I'm very good at providing the girlpop element. I'm not so good at providing the artdrone element. I do much better being the pop one in a weird band rather than the weird one in a pop band. I guess I need to be in a band with people whose tastes are more OUT THERE than mine, rather than more conventional than mine.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I got those cds you sent btw! Thanks a lot!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

groovy! glad they arrived in one piece.

Seriously, get back to the UK and we will start an artgirl dronepop band. Oh yeah.

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i've seen the kissing time! and they were very good.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 19 November 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Wholeheartedly seconded! That was a great great show, Kate (and Cat). Please don't quit now, I think it would be a genuine shame. In spite of Darren's (quite funny really) accidental Vicodin OD, and in spite of the lack of drummer - get a drummer! - the songs and lovely lovely three-part harmonies and splendid Cureish guitar lines (yes, and the smashing "Just Like Heaven" cover) shone through. More please!

KATE CHECK YR EMAIL

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone's in touch with her could you get her to mail me asap?

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

She has to go to a web cafe for internet access. If it's that urgent I can text her for you.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Could you? Just ask her to check her email asap. Cheers.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez! It's so nice to feel wanted for a change!

I have just emailed you both!

:-)

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

And now I'm going for coffee with my former/new boss so if you need me in a hurry, please text me!

The Grain of Sand in Lambeth That Satan Cannot Find (kate), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I sent you an email with some pics, I hope it gets through!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

nine months pass...
Just passing on the info that just landed in my inbox. (n.b. I don't perform with TKT any more, but I will be at this gig if you fancy a pint.)

The Kissing Time plays its last gig at the Pleasure Unit on Tuesday, 11 October 2005.

The entrance fee is £5.00.
Stage Time is 8.40pm.
The venue opens at 6.

The other artists are Model Citizens, The Fray, Jamie West Band, and Mothra.
(MOTHRA, people. Godzilla's nemesis. Genius!)

The Pleasure Unit is located in "beautiful" Bethnal Green at 359 Bethnal Green Road.
Nearest tube is, unsurprisingly, Bethnal Green.
(It is unlikely that Pete Doherty will be in the area in case this is a concern.)

Proper flyers are forthcoming, please stay tuned.

It would be great to have your support at this gig. We ditched the iPod/Matt-in-a-Box for live percussion and have some new songs so it's all quite different from the last time you've seen us.

Hope to see you all there!

Cat, Darren, Peter and Ruth
