Tonight at ten (kenan), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

that's like when your thoughts are beamed straight to our newsreaders.

(it is actually more complicated and i don't like it anyway; it's enough for me to know to check yr blog)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, gotcha, thanks

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, rss isn't so good for blogs. blogs are usually succinct enough as it is. But I adore the BBC News rss feed. *That's* what rss is for.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

(Not that I don't have an rss feed on my own blog, because I wouldn't be cool if I didn't.)

Tonight at ten (kenan), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

are you cool anyway?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

sadly, no.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Saturday, 18 September 2004 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even know what RSS means.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 18 September 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

nobody does.

I think the consensus is "really simple syndication," though there are opther theories. basically, it's a little XML feed that can be read by certain readers that plug into your browser, and allow you to search headlines and snippets of stories and blog entries very quickly without having to load whole pages. If you use Firefox at all, try Sage:

http://sage.mozdev.org/

Opens a sidebar with your RSS feed bookmarks at the top, the headlines of your most recently selected RSS feed at the bottom, and the content of your most recent RSS feeds in the main window. You'll see what I mean. And the new version of Sage comes with the BBC News feed as one of its defaults, so you'll immediately see why I like that so much. No big news webpage, just the facts, ma'am.

Tonight at ten (kenan), Saturday, 18 September 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

SO much more can be done with this technology than already has. The only reason all news pages aren't exclusively RSS feeds is because they need to direct you to their ads. And the only reason all blogs aren't RSS feeds is because they need to direct you to their coolness.

THIS IS WHY I AM NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE NICE THINGS

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

What is white toast by the way?

Is it toast made with white bread?

I have to go to the shop and buy bread, this constitutes my bottom ten at the moment.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 19 September 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It's really windy out. I can't decide if this is a good or a bad thing. On the one hand, it's good, and on the other, it's bad.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"your embivalent fall 2004 ten"

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

BOTTOM TEN:

1. my artwork production rate slowing to an almost complete halt when in fact it should be at an all time high.

2. people asking me what i'm going to do next year after university.

3. my crippling inadequacy.

4. complete lack of intimacy with anything or anyone, physical or otherwise.

5. fluctuating between pathetic bouts of self-pity during which i resign myself to eternal unhappiness and pathetic bouts of self-hate during which i curse myself for being so pathetically sure of my own failure that i don't even try anymore.

6. my increasingly short attention span.

7. ants in all the cereal boxes.

8. not doing any exercise.

9. i don't think i really enjoy being around most of the people i still count as friends.

10. the simpsons being replaced mid-season with local reality tv show.

m. (mitchlnw), Sunday, 19 September 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think my roommate/home douching revelation has gotten the attention it deserves. i smell like a french fry, people.

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm contemplating putting a note on the fridge that says "attention! the vagina is a self-cleaning mechanism"

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

No, don't do that. People will just assume that 'the vagina' is your pet name for your fridge.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the first week i moved in, she had a dinner party exclusively for her grad student girlfriends. i remember thinking, jackpot! grad student girls! that's good, right? BZZZZZT.

so i come home from work that night and walk into the living room and right before my eyes are said girls sitting in a circle around the roommmate, who is gently strumming a guitar. they are singing "we shall overcome" in eight part harmony. because they are the kind of soft lens people who include others with an almost relentless dedication, one of the girls, without missing a beat, hands me an oversized book of "songs from the 60s" and asks me to pick my poison. that's when i make up some lame-o excuse about being exhausted - it is 7:30pm after all - and retreat to my bedroom in a state of apoplectic shock. that was last november. i never really recovered. i am moving in a month.

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

that sounds kinda awesome though.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: Mark P's roommate vs. Gear's.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

If the trucker hat guy was singing 'We Shall Overcome' through that whole affair, then the story takes on a new dimension.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ts: buttsex on the first date vs. not being able to locate your own genitalia with a map

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you've set up a false dichotomy.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ts: buttsex on the first date vs. not realizing you can do more with your genitals than just clean them when they smell bad

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Again.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

no, i feel pretty good about that last one

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

a car can get dirty just by sitting in the driveway, nick

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you misunderstand.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

well if it helps i don't think she could locate her own butt with a map either

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 19 September 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i could locate her butt, i think, but judging by the story above, that's not the hole i'd want to be plugging up

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, did i type that or just think it?

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

You've got a think for virginal hippies now?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Thing.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

without virginal hippies i'd probably half to chop my "number of people i've had sex with" list in half

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Strongo Hulkington: Serial Hippy Deflowerer.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to leave deflowered hippies in your wake.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

it's actually kind of amazing how quickly virginal hippies give up the butt

jess (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

he has a thing for virginal hippies.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 19 September 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

that's just a tip for mark

Do you never say 'white toast', jel?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 19 September 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Never! It's an entirely new concept, I am mightly perplexed.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 19 September 2004 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

it's toast made from white bread. nothing mysterious for you to worry about.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 September 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Phew!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 19 September 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

we have lots of freedom of choice over here. at restaurants, you need to pick what kind of bread you'd like for your toast - white, wheat, rye (sometimes even sourdough or pumpernickel!).

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 September 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

ha! I wonder what would happen if I asked for pumpernickel bread in a transport cafe?

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 19 September 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

you would need a bigger lunchbag?

jones (actual), Sunday, 19 September 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

which is the old spice that's a blue gelstick and comes in a red tube? i like that one.

A. Atom Gorgon (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 05:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still somewhat moist but at least I'm fresh. If I don't wear an anti-perspirant something in my brane tells my pits to rain with sweat, way more than is sensible.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 05:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed... also, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005308C/103-2329448-7844622?v=glance innit sorta strange to buy anti-perspirant online, and from amazon? does anybody really do that?

ex-jeremy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, but I get some type of Old Spice Endurance. It's the chalky white kind of deod/anit-persp, but there's a big sticker on it advertising the fact that it "GOES ON CLEAR!!". It so doesn't, you fuckers.

me too, bryan. i have overactive sweat glands i guess. it's not even tied to nervousness, cause right now my palms are kinda moist.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it doesn't go on clear at all but I don't really go around showing people my pits so it's ok.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 05:36 (twenty-one years ago)
