I've been collecting a number of older men's mags for awhile now, namely True, Saga, Cavalier, and Argosy, dating from about '58-'75. It's fascinating to see the differences. They do show the occasional screen starlet, but are much more focused on Bigfoot and UFO's, hunting & fishing, lost Mussolini gold, Steve McQueens weekend getaway, cabins you can build in a weekend... you know, manly stuff.

Maxim et al have become really girly... men shouldn't be concerned about carbs and abs or pleasing their women, they should be worried about Northern Pike, gyrocopters and raising chinchillas for fun & profit.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

YES!! that would so do it. then of course you have to have the same thing, except with a naked lady. and maybe not quite so many iron filings.

You've Got to Pick Up Every Stitch (tracerhand), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved those things when I was a kid, I kept trying to pry them open though to get out the "hair".

I would hire Gideon Yago to do an investigative report which involves him taking all models of Real Doll and making teh sex with it to tell the readers which one is bestest.

xpost um I would've probably eaten the metal shavings to be honest.

Allyzay Science Explosion (allyzay), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know, when you're a kid and something is inside another thing, you want it out. Is that not universal?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, pretty much, except for that time I put my sister in a dog cage. I didn't want her out then.
