Scrubs (the show) classic or dud? I find it vey boring personally.

Thomas Harding, Monday, 18 October 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

classic and not at all boring apart from the bland sentimental musings JD makes every sodding week

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. Classic might be a bit strong, but it's definitely not dud. There's quite a lot in it, lots of characters and relationships, and the writing is sharp so that things don't get boring. The cast is actually really strong for a sitcom too. I can see why people might be put off by the sentimentality, but sentimentality is not necessarily a failing.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 18 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

but that is the binary with which must deal

lukey (Lukey G), Monday, 18 October 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's only the sweet moral of the day that I don't like, otherwise entirely classic. I think the janitor is a big part of making it classic.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic

(sorry I don't have an explanation, I just like it and wanted to give my support)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say, um, clud? Dulassic? When I watch it, it consistently makes me laugh, but the funniest jokes are ALL nonsequiters, which bothers me on some level, like why can't they actually write some funny jokes that actually have to do with the characters or the story? Plus, while I find most of the actors likeable, most of them are so completely over the top ALL THE TIME. There's a sense of forced wackiness that's kind of obnoxious.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, you should see Green Wing...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic. I've been taping it for a friend, so I have ended up watching shows again with said friend - and it's funny second time around too. So, double classic. (Though it hasn't driven me to see Garden State (yet)...)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

im in love with eliot

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The episode where dude bought the scooters and people kept getting "gravelled" by him was so fucking awesome. Also: the asshole doctor dude gets the best lines in like all of television history.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad Heather Graham is on this show. She is funny. And easy on the eyes.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: theme song by The Eels in a rare moment of not-being-overwhelmingly-depressing = CLASSIC.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Classic.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Dud.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Heather Graham's in it now? woah (after Locklear are they going for a hat-trick?), i can't remember if i've seen any of the third series yet - last i remember Carla and Turk still hadn't got married and they'd brought in a stunning blonde surgeon that had Cox totally losing his cool, oh and Brendan Fraser came back for one episode whereby they killed him off and Cox had been imagining he was still alive for half the episode or something weird.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's only crap when it goes all Ally McBeal at the end of each half. Dr Cox and the Janitor are two of the best assholes on TV.

Dr Cox's wife is the hottest woman ever.

Michael Philip Philip Philip Philip Philip Annoyman (Ferg), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, I like Heather Graham.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

classic even though I miss it every time it's on and have maybe only seen ten episodes all the way through. I'm very surprised a show this smart and funny has remained on NBC.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

it was repeated recently in the mornings on C4 but was cut to buggery (they obv. had to cut Girl Out Of Road Trip's orgasm in the scene where her and JD are getting it on in the closet at her husband's funeral).

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It did make great early morning viewing though, butchered as it was. C4 has been showing some good to vaguely entertaining things in the morning recently.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh but it's all countered by that damn Raymond

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, fuck washing him.

PS Classic. I love, Graham, Locklear, Smart, her off Roseanne and her off The Drew Carey Show.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
Remember a few episodes back on Scrubs? Turk changed his cell phone number to 1-916-CALL-TUR(K). Well, people started calling and the cast started asnwering the phone. Here's an update on the goings-on from Zach Braff's blog: "Thank you all so much for calling (916) Call Turk. I spoke to many people. One guy even had me propose to his girlfriend for him in character. I hope I worded the proposal right to her, or I might technically be engaged right now. The funny thing is, she was like, "OH MY GOD!!!! Yes! Yes! Yes! ... anyway, what's going on with you and Elliot on the show? Are you guys gonna be dating again?"

Dr. Eldon Tyrell (ex machina), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Zach Braff has a blog? sweezus...

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

What did Turk have to say about Jon Williams' love life, I wonder.

one month passes...
i started watching Scrubs recently, within the past couple months. It's my girlfriend's favorite sitcom, she's watched it for probably as long as it's been on.

i like certain moments a lot, but overall, nothing spectacular. she swears that in the past it's been a laugh a minute. Has this show been gowing downhill?

AaronK (AaronK), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

i kind of thought i was alone in liking 'scrubs'; my g/f can't abide it so i don't get to see it much. but it's classic!

N_RQ, Monday, 26 September 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

a classic dud, too much smarty pants humour that isnt that smart, all snipiness, and 'look at me im so quirky and craaaaaaaaaaazy' gags. was good for the 1st serious but has turned into a bit of a parody.

okok, Monday, 26 September 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

I did love this show, and as usual TV here messed with the schedule. I think I might buy the box sets and revisit it.

You know, TV in Aus is FUCKED - if they keep messing with shows people will just go "ehhh" and get the DVDs. Im happy with that personally.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 September 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

They'll download the shows as torrents, that'll learn them.

Why did they axe that hott blonde chief of surgery from the fourth series? It co-incided with the appearance of Heather Graham, curiously.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 26 September 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

Well indeed (re torrents). Tis a bugbear in Aus, the steady showing of decent series here. But thats a rant fr another thread I spose.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 September 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

love it love it love it, completely unapologetically.

and i only just realised that jd's ditzy blonde doctor friend/occasional shag was the second becky in roseanne! man, she looks better now.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 26 September 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Monday, 26 September 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

foxy boxer (stevie), Monday, 26 September 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

It's alright. xpost to nickalicious a long time ago: I think Laszlo Bane did the theme but I might be wrong. Trying to buy washing machine online so can't check. My life = t3h exciting.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Monday, 26 September 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

A scrub is a guy that thinks he’s fly
And is also known as a buster (busta, busta...)
Always talkin’ about what he wants
And just sits on his broke ass
So (no)

I don’t want your number (no)
I don’t want to give you mine and (no)
I don’t want to meet you nowhere (no)
I don’t want none of your time and (no)

Chorus:
I don’t want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend’s ride
Trying to holler at me
I don’t want no scrub
A scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me
Hanging out the passenger side
Of his best friend’s ride
Trying to holler at me

There’s a scrub checkin’ me
But his game is kinda weak
And I know that he cannot approach me
Cuz I’m lookin’ like class and he’s lookin’ like trash
Can’t get wit’ no deadbeat ass
So (no) (yea, yea)

I don’t want your number (no)
I don’t want to give you mine and (no)
I don’t want to meet you nowhere (no)
I don’t want none of your time (no)

Chorus

If you don’t have a car and you’re walking
Oh yes son I’m talking to you
If you live at home wit’ your momma
Oh yes son I’m talking to you (baby)
If you have a shorty that you don’t show love
Oh yes son I’m talking to you (yea yea yea yea...)
Wanna get with me with no money
Oh no I don’t want no (oh)

No scrub (no scrub, no love)
No scrub (no no) (no scrub, no love)
No scrub (no no no no no)
No scrub (no no)
No

Chorus

Chorus

Left eye:
See, if you can’t spatially expand my horizon
Then that leaves you in a class with scrubs never risin’
I don’t find it surprisin’
If you don’t have the g’s
To please me and bounce from here to the coast of overseas
So, let me give you somethin’ to think about
Inundate your mind with intentions to turn you out
Can’t forget the focus on the picture in front of me
You as clear as dvd on digital tv screen
Satisfy my appetite with something spectacular
Check your vernacular
And then I get back to ya
With diamond like precision
Insatiable is what I envision
Can’t detect acquisition
From your friend’s expedition
Mr. big willy if you really wanna know
Ask chilli, could I be a silly ho
Not really, t-boz and all my senoritas
Is steppin’ on your filas
But you don’t hear me though

Chorus

Chorus

The Ghost of I Do Love The Show But I Love The Song More (Dan Perry), Monday, 26 September 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

that's as annoying as a JD monologue!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 26 September 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

i like the song. i remember someone saying that scrubs can't 'get no love' from channel 4's schedulers, who wang it all over the place.

N_RQ, Monday, 26 September 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
This show is now one of my favorite sitcoms along with The [American] Office and Two And A Half Men. And all three are tied for first place!

Hurray for Hilarity, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'm surprised at this thread. I had no idea that Scrubs was so divisive. How do you not like it?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

Well, clearly it's "dumb." You know, uptight self-important pseudointellectual dipwads. Just kidding (not really).

That reminds me; I have a coworker that will ONLY watch the History Channel, Discovery or PBS because she can't get over herself enough to enjoy a "dumb" sitcom. Literally, ANY sitcom is "dumb." Unsurprisingly, she's totally out of the loop regarding popular culture and didn't even know what a blog was until 6 months ago or something.

Hurray for Hilarity, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

i love your handle, hurray for hilarity.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

If you're watching the History Channel and feeling highbrow, you're an idiot.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, I love to laugh.

I forgot one other thing: this coworker of mine does not blow me away with her wit or sense of humor, which I suspect could be sharpened by watching "dumb" sitcoms.

Hurray for Hilarity, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

There is little difference between watching the Discovery Channel and Court TV.

That said, MythBusters rocks.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

Are they gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hurray for Hilarity, Wednesday, 25 January 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

I hope so. They're a really cute couple.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

All sitcoms are kind of stupid. The History Channel is far worse, but there's nothing redeeming I can say about American sitcoms. It's either pseudo-indie crap like Arrested Development/The Office or just regular crap.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

milo OTM! Except Scrubs is pretty good, last night's second episode left me wanting more.

c(''c) (Leee), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:00 (nineteen years ago)

this show doesn't seem very funny to me anymore, not sure why. I did like it at one point though.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 25 January 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...
I just saw my first episode of Scrubs.

How is this still on the air?

Z S, Friday, 4 May 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

It won't be for much longer.

I'll totally go to the mat for the first 3 (and maybe 4) seasons of Scrubs, though.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

Also, if this show ends with JD and Elliott getting together, I'll barf.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 01:51 (eighteen years ago)

It's still on, wtf? I only started watching it recently (on DVD).

melton mowbray, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

It's still on, wtf?

my sentiments exactly.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, it's still on, but the end is very near.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:30 (eighteen years ago)

Also, if this show ends with JD and Elliott getting together, I'll barf.

that would be worst ending ever.

i've only recently gotten into it because they rerun 2 episodes back to back late night and since my decision to be good during the week went into effect i often find myself watching it. usually only 1 ep, though. but yeah... it's past its prime for sure.

tehresa, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

I'm surprised at this thread. I had no idea that Scrubs was so divisive. How do you not like it?

-- Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, January 25, 2006 1:44 PM (1 year ago)

haha Oh man how things can change from "1 year ago." When I posted that, I had not seen it on Comedy Central every time I flipped past that channel.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's a brilliant show.

dan selzer, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I think it's great. Cox and Kelso!

I'm only up to a few episodes in season 4 though, so maybe it's gotten worse.

Roz, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)

It has gotten worse. I LOVE the show up through season 4.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 03:56 (eighteen years ago)

Guy was way better as MURRAY in CLueless, and Clueless TV series pwns all sitcoms. I swear this to be my oath.

Abbott, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:40 (eighteen years ago)

this show is horrible but i love it

get bent, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

ive had to endure a few episodes as a result of watching thurs night nbc w/ other ppl & i actually kind of understand that sentiment? except not really.

deeznuts, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:43 (eighteen years ago)

My sis has crush grande on Braff, so she tried to force it down my throat. I voted NO on proposition THAT.

Abbott, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

The problem with Scrubs is that the core star characters have all gotten really boring. JD, Turk, Elliott, Carla and Dr. Cox. Everyone else is still as funny as they ever were: Janitor, Dr. Kelso, Jordan, The Todd, etc. Unfortunately, a show can't really go anywhere if only the side-players are responsible for getting the laughs.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)

this show is horrible but i love it

yeah the trouble with it being on Comedy Central every hour of every day is that for about two months I always stopped on that channel, against my will.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 04:58 (eighteen years ago)

this show is all about TED

stevie, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

dr cox has still got it.

That one guy that quit, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

is it going to be taken up by abc as per rumour?

That one guy that quit, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:37 (eighteen years ago)

it's already on ABC1 on UK cable. as well as E4 AND Paramount. is this a record for a TV show in the UK?

haven't seen s5 yet.

blueski, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

the last 'current' one i saw was when jd got that new chick pregnant, whenever that was.

That one guy that quit, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

ABC1 freeview (early season tho?) and E4 (goodness knows what season). I only watch it very sporadically and have no idea which season is which, although there was one on the other day which showed when Elliot got that TERRIBLE feathered cut as a mark of her STRENGTH = dud dud dud, I HATE that haircut! Have occasionally seen some episodes where Turk and JD don't live together, they are fairly dud.

Sarah, Friday, 4 May 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

This show pretty much encompasses everything I hate about post Gen X humor. It's just the kind of 'smartass' dialogue that can only exist in a post-Friends, irony-all-the-time world. The theme song alone inspires a sort of unexplainable rage in me. The sadists at my local Fox station put two episodes in a row on after The Simpsons and damn if I'm not usually too drunk by then to change the channel. But, drunk or not, I never recall laughing once at this show. Hate it like poison.

Manalishi, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

yeah right, JD's awful monologues are "irony-all-the-time". it's actually really earnest, wtf.

That one guy that quit, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Wiki sez:

Season 7

Bill Lawrence told Mike Ausiello at TVGuide.com that Scrubs will return for a "seventh and final season, either on NBC or ABC." He also told Ausiello that if Zach Braff is not interested in doing a seventh and final season, there simply will not be a seventh season. Braff will stay for a final season.[11] On January 17, 2007, Zach Braff posted on his blog that he would be willing to return to Scrubs for a seventh season if "all the right pieces fall into place", including "Bill Lawrence staying on as creator/head writer" and "some scheduling tweaks."[12] On March 7, 2007, there were reports that, if Braff signed on for another season, he would receive $350,000 an episode, making him one of the highest-paid male TV personalities[13], although Braff claims these reports "have not been very accurate".[5] On March 31, 2007, Braff announced via his blog that he has signed on to a 7th season of Scrubs, if NBC decides to renew it for another season (although Braff has stated that ABC is willing to pick up season 7 if NBC declines). Scrubs will now officially return for a 7th season, but it is yet to be determined whether it will air on NBC or ABC. [5]

-----------------------------------------------------

So apparently, it is coming back for a season 7, but NBC's been billing these last episodes as LAST episodes, which leads me to believe that a move to ABC is already being planned behind the scenes. HOW WILL THEY DO THIS? The show is already so close to being completely out of steam, it's final hour is going to be stretched out into 12 hours in 24 half-hour segments. Painful.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

that Matthew Perry episode was horrendous incidentally.

blueski, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

I voted NO on proposition THAT.

I'm having this.

I like Scrubs enough to be pleased when it's on when I want to waste half an hour of my life watching a sitcom, but not enough to watch it on purpose.

I didn't know there was a Matthew Perry episode.

accentmonkey, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

i love the scrubs. it's like weekend wallpaper on ABC1. and there's a WHOLE DAY OF IT this bank holiday monday.

it's ALL about Cox though innit. And Elliot's still way hott.

CharlieNo4, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Even with that awful late doors hairdo? I am obsessed with how much I don't like it! Tears me up inside!

Sarah, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

she gets better hair later but agreed it is bad, the one you're talking about.

i kind of switch off a bit when it isn't cox zinging someone, jordan being on-screen, or one of the todd's scenes.

That one guy that quit, Friday, 4 May 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

as well as being all about Ted and all about Cox the show is also all about Kelso.

all of JD's other girlfriends have been hotter than Elliot.

i really liked the cute brunette intern that Cox dated for a few episodes but then ruined it by hooking up with Jordan again.

blueski, Friday, 4 May 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

they had the one where kelso bursts his eardrums on last night. genius.

i can see how this show would drive someone insane. it can be really cloying. 99% of any music played on it is weepy indie boy shite. it is WACKY.

but its also really tightly written (like, jokes every 10 seconds or something), the actors are uniformly great, from leads to minors.

this show is a little overrated.

sleep, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, but it's on after seinfeld and the only other option is like, will & grace. it's not BAD, for sure, though the sentimentality is pretty whack.

There is another option - turn it off!

This glorious alternative is what keeps me from watching Montel Williams!

BUT IF I TURN IT OFF, THEN WHAT WILL I DO WITH MY EVENINGS??? READ??!?!?!

ian, Wednesday, 12 December 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

It's probably more fun to write about Scrubs than to actually watch Scrubs.

You could write Scrubs fan fiction.

My favorite challenge is to write scenes in which all of the characters somehow have sex and die, all within 10 minutes.

it's the braff factor that polarizes it for me. you must accept or reject.

I only watch this is syndiction and I have no idea how old the ones I watch are. But they all seem about 70% dud to 30% classic but the 30% more than redeems the rest.

syndication but and

wanko ergo sum, Thursday, 10 January 2008 00:51 (eighteen years ago)

This show is similar to Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies, or Three's Company or other "classic" sitcoms, in that it has no points of similarity to ordinary reality, but instead creates a "whacky" space in the viewer's imagination where the characters make a sort of weird sense.

This is probably the root cause of why one is supposed to either love or hate it. If you have succumbed to the stupid premise and learned the characters, then you will presumably love it. If your imagination rejects it as a foreign body, then you will presumably hate it.

Because I've only seen it in small scraps here and there while in a room where it is turned on, I am mostly indifferent to it.

Aimless, Thursday, 10 January 2008 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

I think the older seasons are consistently great. My roommate described it as "Family Guy in a hospital," which had me contemplating why I don't like Family Guy nearly as much. Also, like Futurama, I find it weirdly affecting emotionally.

Different from Family Guy because Family Guy has great jokes and some of the best comic performances in TV history. Scrubs has WACKY~!

Actor Zack Braff is to hang up his scrubs and quit the TV medical comedy.

Show creator Bill Lawrence has confirmed the upcoming season of Scrubs will be Braff's last.

And Lawrence hints that Braff's final show could mark the end of the series: "The end of the show will be about J.D. (Braff's character) leaving the hospital."

But Lawrence also insists, "You can't kill this show."

omar little, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, Bill Lawrence. This show already died about three seasons ago. Now it's just a full cast of zombies.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 July 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

I've loved this show since its first season, and I'm very glad that they got the chance to make a season 8. It seemed as though it was always in danger of not coming back, and NBC never really threw their muscle behind it. I missed the last 2 episodes from this past year, and only just now watched them. It was the most perfect ending to a sitcom that I've ever seen. It actually made me cry. I can't think of the last time that TV made me cry. It is absolutely criminal that they would push on with another year, without all of the original cast - especially in light of how they ended season 8.

Totally gay for Obama (j-rock), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 09:53 (sixteen years ago)

From what I gather it's going to be an "After M*A*S*H" kind of thing, with Cox and Turk taking teaching roles in med school or something.

I give it 4 episodes.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 09:57 (sixteen years ago)

I guess I should catch up with season 8, tho. I always forgot to watch it and only saw the first 2 or 3 eps.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 09:58 (sixteen years ago)

This show is horrible and the fact that it even got to a "Season 8" is an abomination of television.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

I have to admit, I'm still going to watch the new series anyway. I liked the series finale but yeah, the show was really going through the motions for the last two or three years. At least this year they were openly acknowledging it, I guess.

i would like this show quite a bit if all the earnest Braff musings were excised. It's not comedy gold but it raises a chuckle once in a while and would be fairly entertaining if the monologues about people dying and what it's like working in a hospital would get to fuck.

there's actually a lot more of the original cast than I thought there'd be, at least for the episodes so far, i thought it was gonna be a total Screech-and-Mr.-Belding-and-all-new-kids thing. still kind of enjoy this stupid show.

xp otm... too bad all the other new characters feel really generic. I remember someone trying to make the argument that Scrubs started out this way too w/JD, Turk, Elliot, etc. but I don't buy it.

Nhex, Thursday, 3 December 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)

I'm afraid to watch the new episodes largely because the original cast had transcendent chemistry that made even the weak episodes work. I thought they did an excellent job last season with casting the new round of interns in retaining that chemistry; am I interpreting this thread correctly in that they only kept one of them?????

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

(lol web research reassures me a little bit in that they did, in fact, keep the awesomest one of the interns)

Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

so far JD, Turk, Todd, Cox and Kelso are still in the show, and Elliot and the Janitor made brief cameos. so i mean, unless you thought Carla was the best part of the original cast or something, not much difference.

the 6 SBillion dollar man (some dude), Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

There's actually a lot more JD than I thought there would be, considering how he was begging to leave pretty much every season. I'm surprised they couldn't even get Carla back for a cameo like they did with Elliot, but I guess I can also understand why she didn't want to bother after eight seasons.

It just seems too on the nose to have the new JD be an insecure blond girl...

Nhex, Thursday, 3 December 2009 18:09 (sixteen years ago)

why is this show even still on? i haven't kept up for the past couple seasons (regularly, anyway) but it seems like it's waaaay past it's sell-by date.

i am rewatching this show for the first time in probably 10 years and it's not aged v well. still like the janitor, and the lawyer ted is sort of proto-depressed zoomer humor. i would pay $20 for a dvd set with all of zach braff's narration and the musical montages removed.
