CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i forgot to say MattDC adn Martin Skidmo' of this parish will be on tha decks (as well as the usual suspects).

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i really wish i could make this, but i'll be in boston :-(

toby (tsg20), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll go to boston instead if you like

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That's a long way to go just to avoid hearing me DJ, Toby.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

strange reading there. i expect it will be a fun night as always.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Bump.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Woohoo! I will be crazed from packing! Bring on the cocktails!

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm glad this is next week rather than this week. i think i might die if i had to go out dancing tomorrow. so tired. i'm sure i'll be ready for dancing fun next week though. woo!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Regrettably I am unable to attend due to dinner committments.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Who will be DJing early doors? I might start saving up.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Regrettably, I am attending our National Conference which will have repaired to the Euston Flyer at 5pm. I could drag some people there, but I expect a drunken mess of football fans from around the Uk might not be up for it.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

A drunken mess of a Dave B might be, surely?

I am excited about this. I am planning a set of route-one girlpop with the occasional trick up my sleeve*. The night will also see Tom's much trailered Europop set.

*Stevem will be please to learn this does not include that mix of Drop The Pressure and Dr Beat.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

and euston flyer is about 15 mins walk (or 5 mins bus) from the chapel!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

route-one girlpop sounds filthy.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it is.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

see you next thurs!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh vey. Can you play that mash-up of 3Lions?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm saying it's perfick for a drunken group of football fans :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

they can contribute to that fund thing, then

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

My set is going to be the Too Much Love set. I will think it's great, assuming I don't fuck it up, but I suspect others will be less enthusiastic. I believe I have booked an 8pm slot, so as not to feel guilty if no one is inclined to dance - or more honestly, to allow me to feel freer to play what I want rather than safe-bet floorfillers.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i think you should play sth for my birthday.alas i'll be in belgium celebrating my 18th birthday. (i wish, i actually turn **)

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to hear Martin Skidmo' djing, but I won't be able to make this unfortunately. Have fun, y'all.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

surely Three Lions is due a proper schaffel rerub now

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I might even go.

Could you play some different music this time?

the bluefox, Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure Martin will be playing some different music - perhaps more in tune with your tastes.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, i forgot, i'm supposed to be more crabby about club FTs after the request incident last time.

oh well, i'm still coming. and still glad it's next week rather than tonight.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel like a piece of turd today so i'm also glad this is next week.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin, can I request "There's Too Much Love" by Belle and Sebastian? I'll give you a quid...

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey - currently playing on my office stereo: "Fox In The Snow" by B&S! Synchronicity!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder what different music is

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I will place my first Grecian Earn request for Cellular Minutes by Mad Anju please.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I would assume that Pinefox means music which is different to the music customarily played at Club FT.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I presume he means music that he likes (there was rather a lot of very Pinefox-unfriendly dance, rap and UK garage at the last one). I'd never noticed a huge amount of overlap between his and Martin's tastes but maybe I just haven't been paying attention.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

UK garage?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you know, the Troggs, the Downliners Sect, the Artwoods, that kind of thing.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't usually pay attention to the music, i just go for the cheap cocktails

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i remember the pinefox requesting music that he could breakdance to, actually.

will that request fall with matt or martin?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I must admit that previous Club FTs have suffered a bit too much from the old "knowing the hits" syndrome, but the last one was better, but on saying that, I can't remember anything pre-last Club Popular so maybe I'm a liar liar with my undercrackers on fire, yer get meh?

I think Tim P!o!p!kins should do a TRUCKING SET.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i will play cellular minutes (if i remember).

tom is promising an ALL NEW-ALL THE TIME set (except "save a horse" i'm guessing)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the reasons I'm doing the Europop set(s) is that I want to force myself not to just get drunk and play Girls Aloud and the Pet Shop Boys.

This is not to say the Pinefox will enjoy my stuff any more. Sorry PF.

And the tunes will of course still be big.

You didn't see me, right? (Groke), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:28 (twenty-one years ago)

deep in the heart of club FT is the thorn of the indie disco.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

There's MUSIC at Club FT's? I think I've been going to the wrong club.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I'm getting it confused with Sainsbury's

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I will be attempting to play all the Big Tunes that have not yet been played. There's hundreds of the bloody things so it shouldn't be too tricky.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe I'm getting it confused with Sainsbury's

this just very nearly made water come out my nose. well done.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

if you guys let me DJ you'll get to hear tons of great and unusual hits.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Six, Big Seven, Big Eight...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"unusual" that is

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Offhand I can only think of "It's Not Unusual."

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken does 'great and unusual' describe zither music?

I have a new skirt to wear to this. (/high school)

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

If the charts had started two years earlier the Harry Lime Theme would have been eligible for Club Popular.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I just realised I can't come to this - I'm going to a 4AD showcase that night. Boo.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it's good to support new upcoming labels

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not exactly like they're lighting cigars with rolls of £20s over there though - the label has sadly been reduced to quite a skeleton staff these days...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

sgs, some autoharp music maybe!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

someone must play the new Gwen

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I like the new Gwen. I'm so ashamed. Or maybe it's just the video. I'm a sucker for anything Alice in Wonderland. I mean, yeah, even that Tom Petty song. Argh.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Some theremin music would not go amiss.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i want a new skirt! but i have no money. perhaps i'll go to primark. this could be the solution to my 'i want new fall clothes but am poor right now' dilemma. hmm.

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps with a touch of ondes martinot.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

always one to get the punters goin'

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Though you may wish to pack some sopranino bullroarer classics for all those punk rockers out there!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

In honour of the forthcoming presidential election, we will be playing one song each by Kate Bush and Kerry from Atomic Kitten, and you Americans will all have to dance to the one you're planning to vote for.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

But... but... I prefer Kate Bush to Atomic Kitten, but that's certainly not the way I would vote... (if I could indeed vote at all.)

How about playing Bush instead, so I don't have to dance to either?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to out the secret Republicans in our midst ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't you play something by Bryan Kerry instead?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think the pinefox would like that

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Rock and roll then. You can't beat a bit of Chuck Kerry.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

chuck kerry out the train

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Or what about some Merseybeat - Kerry and the Pacemakers? OH KERRY CROSS THE MEEEER-SEY...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

how about Britney's politically charged 'I'm Nader Girl, Not Yet A Woman'?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

"You Don't Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War" by Mungo Kerry might be an apposite disc to spin.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

we wish you a kerry kristmas

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Then there's that all-star charity record that's just come out to lobby for his election; "Let It Be" by Kerry Aid.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerry Eleison - Mr. Mister
v
Bush It - Salt n Pepa

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Play That Funky Music" by Wild Kerry!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

let's bush things forward

kerry on til tomorrow

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Kerry on Columbus.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

John Kerry

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

kerry's matthews

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

John Kerry? Is he that old guy who comes on Newsnight Review?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That's Paul Morley.

the bellefox, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Or am I mixing him up with Germaine Greer?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Mark, I plan to play records I like, so no chance of any Belle and Sebastian. The Pinefox may like some of the things I play, but he will dislike others. I am unsure, of the proportion.

Some other Bush things from my collection: Bush Tetras, Layo & Bushwacka, 2 in da Bush, Bushwick, 'Behind The Bush' (Jungle Brothers), 'Bushman Tucker' (Screamin' Jay Hawkins), 'Cuban Bush' (Action Swingers), 'Huckleberry Bush' (Bo Diddley).

Only Kerry I can find is 'Kerry Kerry' by Cinerama, 'The Kerry Baby' (Pete Wylie), 'Kerry Dance' (Art Tatum).

None of these are on my shortlist.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you think I might like, that you might play?

the bellefox, Thursday, 21 October 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin, you're missing the point of the Grecian Earn.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 21 October 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's my first DJ set, Mark, and I have a really clear idea of how it's going to work (if I don't fuck up), and B&S would absolutely not fit in. If I play again ever, I think I'll be much more amenable. Perhaps ask Carsmile, as he'll be a lot more keen on the donation!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll play B+S if i dj!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

LEGAL MAN!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(kiddin')

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 October 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair the Grecian Earn rule shouldn't have to apply to guest DJs. I'm sure DJ Carsmile will be all too happy to fulfil yr sick desires Barry!

Grecian Clarifier (Groke), Friday, 22 October 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Were I ever to DJ at Club FT, I too would only play records I like.

This is why I will never be asked to DJ at Club FT.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

were i ever to DJ i'll only play records i hate. SPREAD THE PAIN

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I have an idea.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, I'll bite... "What's a Grecian Urn Rule...?"

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

You pay the regular DJs £1 per request. The proceeds go to raise money for a worthy cause.

I knew it'd be your cup of tea ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What's Exeter City FC ever done for me?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

So then, do guest DJs get to donate their Grecian Urn to the charity of *their* choice?

I mean, quite frankly, I'd rather donate my £1 to the Pay Pete Doherty's Rehab Bill Foundation than to support a freaking football club...

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"MC in agreement with Kate" shock horror youth cult probe!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Guest DJs can play what they like - that's the whole point of guest DJs - obviously some compromise has to be made as 40 minutes of undanceable dissonance is unlikely to appeal to the regular clientele. On the other hand getting people to dance to anything other than familiar big tunes old and new tends to be a problem at such an event so it remains a tough one.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that there should really be this obligation to dance anyway - i think more people who go spend more time sitting down, drinking and chatting away which is fair enough

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Wouldn't it be rather sad to go to a club and just sit there and drink?

I am thinking of the club scene in Trainspotting with all these awful wallflowers standing at the back, glass in hand, wearing terrible specs and worse kipper ties.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

kipper tie?

milk, two sugars, plaise.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

no it's not sad at all, it's called socialising for fucks sake - some people don't like to dance for whatever reason (they don't like the music/they're not drunk enough) but they still like to come out and talk to people and have fun. i can't believe you actually bitch about this every single month, it obviously doesn't appeal to you in any shape or form - unlike a lot of other people, so why bother (must ask myself the same question re arguing back i suppose)?

xpost

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, so essentially you're saying that it's just an FAP with a disco as optional extra.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a bar as well as a club, there are huge comfy sofas that people can sit on and chat to their friends away from the dancing, everyone's happy.

Is it really necessary to have this near-identical debate every single month? People will turn up, the attendance has been steadily growing for the past few months and will hopefully do so again, people who turn up seem to enjoy themselves including those who have nothing whatsoever to do with FreakyTrigger or ILX. What's the problem?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

oh he'll think of something

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:13 (twenty-one years ago)

If we're going to start this whole routine cycle again, can I start posting random pictures of dirty rock boys?

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh that would be hilarious, we could post them on the excelsior board...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The problem would seem to be the huge comfy sofas. Though I suppose it makes commercial sense as drinking creates more profits than dancing.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, so essentially you're saying that it's just an FAP with a disco as optional extra.

yes, it always has been.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

also, DNFTT.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

If you stripped out the sofas and replaced them with, say, a boxing ring, you'd be surprised how many more punters that would draw.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yawn

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

oop, wrong thread. i don't understand the boxing ring thing, are you saying you want a fight Marcello?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Steve, I'm a lover not a fighter!

But ILx boxing matches would be a good and potentially profitable idea.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 08:21 (twenty-one years ago)

There was actually some shadow boxing on the dancefloor at Club Popular (Colette and Tom L to thread). During Eye of the Tiger obv.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think Club FT should be publicised on ILE anymore - there's no point and nothing to gain. less talk more...rawk?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Rawk is rank.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 22 October 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i could just post that Nickelback photo all the time i suppose

I've boxed against Mark before. He was tuff. I was TUFF.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

... bah! Not even if I Shout and Point at you? (xpost)

What did you do in the war, Dadaismus? (Dada), Friday, 22 October 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, I'll box you! I think at the first FT I came to (and maybe the 2nd or 3rd time meeting you), you offered to 'step outside' with me ;)
-- Rob Bolton (i_like_my_vesp...)

When Mark offers to 'step outside' he doesn't mean fighting.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

He was asking you to "step outside the box" not "step outside and box"

What did you do in the war, Dadaismus? (Dada), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Except people "think outside the box" don't they? Well, wankers do

What did you do in the war, Dadaismus? (Dada), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

wankers don't think outside the box

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

rappers do

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

haha you are just miffed that you didn't think of it first.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i did think of it first tho

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

What did you do in the war, Dadaismus? (Dada), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Grab him by his Ariel Bender!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear they have liquid soap in the loos - BOYCOTT THIS SICK STUNT!

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

This is just guerrilla marketing to make us buy and use liquid soap. Shame on you Starry!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 22 October 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

NEVER

Starry (hello chickens), Friday, 22 October 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I think companies should promote their products with monkeys more often.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 22 October 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin S, again: what do you think that you might play, that I might like?

I feel that at this club I mostly hear the same sort of thing over and over again, and I would like to hear more things that I like, sometimes.

the bellefox, Saturday, 23 October 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, sorry, the Pinefox, I forgot to answer this. I am unsure how you feel about old soul music, but I do plan to play one or two old pop and rock numbers that I imagine you might like. The Kinks seems a good bet, for instance, as do Blondie. I'm afraid there will also be modern things, such as R&B, that you won't care for.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 23 October 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

> Some theremin music would not go amiss.

Bill Bailey did a Radio 4 documentary on theremins just last week:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/goodvibrations.shtml

this month's excuse for not coming to CFT, slightly better than last month's 'Deadline At Work': a cremation in gloucestershire

koogs (koogs), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I am sorry about the cremation.

I forgot that Bill Bailey thing. He was on Top Gear last night, but I don't like Top Gear. It is alien to me.

Anyone who hasn't got at least one pound's worth of fun out of Exeter City on ILX hasn't been paying enough attention. Still, I would rather give money to Care International or something.

I might be able to come along to this early doors. Who will be ther early doors? Or will I have to hang around the DJs like a sad DJ groupie? Will people be DJing from their i-Pods? I like that.

I am glad Martin is bent on pleasing himself. Otherwise, what is the point of Special Guests?

I would dance to Tim's TRUCKING set, but nothing else. I would pretend to 'honk my horn' by pulling on an imaginary cord.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

there is usually a reasonably-sized group of people by 7ish PJ, but i'll be there 5.30ish. i won't think you're a sad DJ groupie though. we don't dj with ipods cos we can't get them loud enough on the aux lines at the Chapel, it is fun though.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

do they early Doors early doors?

koogs (koogs), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i really hope not.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(there was a 'play' in there, obviously)

koogs (koogs), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The weather forecast is bad, bad, bad.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

please stay well clear of the Doors.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

and mind the gap.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

fear not, no doors early or late as long as i'm in charge ;)

unless i get to sing "fat dead hippy, in a bath" along to "break on though, to the other side" which has happened once or twice before (not at ClubFT though)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I quite like early Doors.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer the early Seeds off whom the early Doors were completely ripped.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 25 October 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Stevem persuaded me on Friday that I should come to this... so I will. I think the key line in the persuasion was "they'll play Girls Aloud".

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

they rip what you sowed.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The key line in persuading me would be: "they'll play Iannis Xenakis."

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 25 October 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

PJ, I'll be there around 6, I expect. And I'm not just planning on pleasing myself, but there will be rather more soul music in my set than one normally hears at Club FT - hopefully stuff that fits, dancey soul rather than deep heartbreaking ballads. I am very pleased with me set plan - I think it's great music, with variety and coherence.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait to hear it, Martin - do you know what time you're going to be on?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i think martin will be on around 8ish.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Carsmile,

That file should have been in yr Gmail at about 11pm. Sorry for the delay, was conducting my own Peel tribute in the pub (Teenage Kicks, Hey! Luciani! and For Your Eyes Only. People forget he was a fan of Sheena.)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I will hopefully be there in time to help Carsmile with his massive milk crates full of records, assuming I can find the place. Maybe he will let me stand in the pulpit before anyone else arrives.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 28 October 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I can arrive by canal!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 28 October 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Peej, I'll be there "early doors" too. We can perhaps discuss trucking records! I like honking imaginary "horns"horns, too.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 28 October 2004 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmmm early cocktails doors. I too shall be there well in advance.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 28 October 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

On trucking, I think my favourite song at the moment is "Radar Blues", although I did get a lump in my throat at the end of "Giddy Up Go" the other day. Poss a hairball.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeurgh, I have a seminar tonight that will probably delay my arrival until 9 or after. (It's even been scheduled later than usual to accommodate someone who now says she's not coming!) I hope I don't miss all the guest sets. And teenage kicks and stuff.

sgs (sgs), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Right then!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

probably be dere early, my shoulders are aching though.. some mcD breakfast may help brb.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

to help Carsmile with his massive milk crates full of records

what's a re-cord, daddy?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey grandad, Carsmile keeps all his music in a wallet the size of a pinhead!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it is all in my BRANE and i put wires in each ear for it to come out...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 28 October 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

You did remember the wires, didn't you?

I am very excited. It's taken me years to get this platform and now you will all listen to my hour-long set of minimialist Belgian techo AND APPRECIATE IT.

THERE IS NO ESCAPE! MWUHAHAHAHA!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you're getting that mixed up with the five-hour set of undanceable dissonance that Julio and I are doing for the Club FT Xmas Special...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a guy listening to iPod on halloween actually!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

EXACTLY! The word "iPod" is clearly an abbreviation for the sinister term "I AM A PAEOD!" which he has cleverly anagrammatised to conceal the fact that HE IS A PAEDOPHILE!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

haha who's a paedophile again? i'm lost now!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Gary Glitter wasn't it?

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Not Bill Wyman

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 28 October 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

huh? what? the who were you talking about?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 October 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Man I need a f#cking DRINK.

Starry (hello chickens), Thursday, 28 October 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

so when are we going to sort out living web streaming from club ft? surely someone good hook into their security cameras, and streaming the audio wouldn't be so hard.

anyway, i wish i could be there, particularly for matt's set (no disrespect to martin, obv). hope you all have a lot of fun.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 28 October 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What time are the early coctails? I have to go into town anyway to check out buying one of those stupid combination laptop/keyboard stands that make you look like you're piloting the Enterprise anyway, so I might make it along before you get the party started.

I actually had to REARRANGE REHEARSALS THIS WEEK because they were interfering with my drinking schedule, so I will actually make it. Honest.

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Thursday, 28 October 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

if there's web access at the chapel this would be easy! maybe someone should talk them into adding wi-fi to the place.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 October 2004 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

boyler maintains there is wifi of some description, there is a screen on the wall that looks like it's just for security cameras to me, but i know not of these things...

i should be there half 5ish

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 28 October 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

boo. i'm still ill, and on antibiotics at this stage. dunno how much of this i'll make it to. i'll probably come for a while just to say hello...

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 28 October 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Now look, I need to stop making excuses and actually drag myself along to one of these damn Club FT nights, so I'm going to do so tonight.

Unfortunately, as I was undecided about whether or not to go when I left the house this morning, and dressed in expectation of yeucchily heavy showers, I will not exactly resemble a stud muffin, so may confine myself to having a drink or seven on one of those big comfy sofas, as opposed to dancing as such. However I do look forward to hearing what Mr Skidmore has to play, and also Mr Ewing's Europop set.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't think I could make it tonight, but the 4AD showcase thingy ends at 11 so I will try to come by on my way home... Sorry I will miss your set, Martin.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby - The idea of a live websteam from Club FT terrifies me. Although it would be amusing to come back to a thread of posts from amused Merkins going "OMG Matt DC dances like Hitler!" or something.

Oh, and Colette, if you make it along I'll buy you one of whatever the best medicinal antibiotic-friendly cocktail is behind the bar.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

and if Hitler can dance at Club FT anyone can...

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

-- Marcello Carlin (marcellocarli...), October 28th, 2004. (later)

that would be club unpopular, as an ilxer said last time I was there.

Its not feasible...you'd need 400 loudspeakers, for a start.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I can afford them.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Why not spend your cash buying a pint for everyone you've abused in the past?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I certainly owe you one if I go by those criteria.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 28 October 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never abused anyone in my life. I have no idea what you're talking about.

...and it was going so well today...sigh...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a rubbish plan. Nobody's ever been nasty to me, but that doesn't mean I don't deserve free beer.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I could be nasty to you, then buy you a pint, if you like.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

"Here's your pint"
"But you haven't been nasty to me yet."
"..yeah.. So, are you going to drink it or what?"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oh the bar staff aren't THAT bad

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck this for a game of soldiers, if that's your attitude then I'm just going to stay at home and watch Michael Moore and Richard Littlejohn being, er, nasty to each other on Question Time.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, what? What I said wasn't directed at you, Marcello, nor was Steve, or Liz's, I think. I think you should go along, and I'm annoyed that my plans to attend have attained the shape of a pear at short notice. It'd be nice to meet you.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Steve or Liz or Jim.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 28 October 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby - The idea of a live websteam from Club FT terrifies me.

it wasn't an entirely serious suggestion. although i think it would be funny just for today, but only because the idea of sitting in work in the afternoon watching you all be really drunk is, well, funny.

For the first time ever I'm going to be at the Chapel early doors and, having tomorrow off work, will be staying till the bitter end. I would like everyone to stop me from getting too drunk before I have to play. I have a very large amount of pop tat in my bag and trust me you will regret it if you don't.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

When when when? It is important that I am not in Wales at that point.

What a great evening.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

*provisionally* the 18th, i'll be letting everyone know as soon as it's sorted.

also, flyer for next month ALREADY!!!

http://www.freakytrigger.co.uk/pictures/ft_club_nov.pdf

only pdf at the mo, but still pretty.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

only 15 of those played last night ;)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Urgent and key: is MDC still alive?

Tom and I were PELTED with MISSLES on our way back to Upper Street!

BIGGEST PINT EVER, Friday, 29 October 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I sprayed someone's face with a SPRAY CAN last night!!!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ken and Jim are MENTALISTS for dashing off from FT to go line up outside that game store to pick up the new GTA. Did you buy a copy for those young boys you befriended? You felons.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 29 October 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

My favourite moment was being asked if I had I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany only to be able to hand the young lady the cans and play THE NEXT TUNE I HAD CUED UP.

(Which was I Think We're Alone Now if you have no sense of dramatic irony.)

Pete (Pete), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

that's actually a mini-game within GTA, buying video games for underage kids...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I especially enjoyed the Tiffany. As well as AC/DC's 'You Shook me.'

sgs (sgs), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

apologies for the Bezzing

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

We were marvelling at how well you embodied the Spirit of Manc, actually.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes! I tried to Bez but failed. I thought only maracas would've completed your moves.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

There were maracas there last time, but the salsa people had snaffled them.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought we decided Alang was the one tru Bez?

p.s. who is the TERRIFYING NO-FACED ZOMBIE in Ken's photo series???

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

MDC is alive, i got a text from him that woke me up.

sorry i was a party pooper and left so early. but i enjoyed it while i was there, and really enjoyed both the guest DJs.

i really really really hope the xmas party isn't on the 18th, since that's a friend's birthday party that i planned my flights back to the states around, so i'm going. but i really want to come to the christmas party!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

A number of Ken's photos seem to have been taken while the venue was on fire.

I think I might go to the next Club FT - cos, as of this weekend, I CAN!

robster (robster), Friday, 29 October 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I did not notice, at the time, that Ken was missing.

Are those little chaps Moroccans? Or is it all a front?

It was nice to see everybody. I'm sorry if I didn't say goodbye to anyone I should have said goodbye to, but my bodyguards were leaving.

I wonder what they had to eat.

No one dances early doors.

If you get there early doors, it is quite a good game to see if you can tell who has had the hardest day. Most people don't seem to have very hard days, on the whole. I, personally, hadn't lifted a finger all day. I was still tired though.

It is not a converted chapel, as I had led myself to believe.

I was impressed by their video camera system, it should be a simple matter to get it online, I think.

I had something in my bag for The Pinefox, but he didn't turn up.

'Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion' was on the television when I got in.

Robster, we talked about you!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:01 (twenty-one years ago)

my ears were burning last night but some drops sorted it out

robster (robster), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

you always feel like an idiot dancing early on but by the end of the night you feel like an idiot for NOT having danced early on

by you i mean me - and i think that feeling is a testament to Club FT DJ quality

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

WHO IS THE ZOMBIE?!?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

which zombie mark!??!?

I'm sad I missed PJ Millar, although i was glad at the time that I was being bought free beer after work.

Is PJ going to DJ one day?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

PJ, the lovely bar manager jonathan is israeli, i don't know about the rest of them. the chef didn't look awfully morrocan either...

i hope the new bar-tender is a bit more chilled out by next month, he was a bit on edge last night...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Bless him and his non-Cruisular cocktail skeelz. He was enjoying the tunes cosiderably, though.

I hope Miss Cis got home and finished her essay in time.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

He was nice enough early on. I quite liked the fact he shouted, 'do you want anything?' as soon as I walked in, so that he could go and sit down or something once I was out of the way.

Liz questioned his arithmetic, you know.

I was just wondering because of the Moroccan Chamber thing. I just wondered this this morning. I also thought that the Lenny Kravitz (slim but not shady) guy had moved a long way from Morocco if he was Moroccan, spiritually rather than geographically. But he isn't, so it was a wasted thought.

One thing I found out last night - I know nothing about 90s music.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess it's time to break it to Kate that she is our illicit child, marianna.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete, it was that kind of synchronous night. Tom played Take On Me at one point, and I started telling people that if I played again some time I might play a happy hardcore version of that, and maybe follow it with a happy hardcore remix of 99 Red Balloons - and Tom played (the original of) that as his next record!

I really enjoyed playing, and was very grateful for the compliments after it. Since I was asked, first by Vicky who had to leave early, here is the set list for my Too Much Love set:

Chi-Lites - Are You My Woman (only the first 30 seconds or so - it includes the horn part sampled in the final track)
Little Anthony and the Imperials - Goin' Out Of My Head
Chi-Lites - Stoned Out Of My Mind
Chairmen of the Board - You've Got Me Dangling On A String
Isley Brothers - This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)
Carr, James - Pouring Water On A Drowning Man
White, Barry - You're The First, The Last, My Everything
Kinks - You Really Got Me
Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)?
Lolita Storm - Hot Lips - Wet Pants
Tatu - All The Things She Said
Kelis - Get Along With You
Shangri-Las - Give Him A Great Big Kiss
Blondie - X Offender - X Offender
Green, Al - Let's Stay Together
Beyonce - Crazy In Love

The theme came from two pairs that I wanted to play together - Goin' Out Of My Head/Stoned Out Of My Mind and Give Him A Great Big Kiss/X Offender, and noticing that they fitted together thematically, then I thought of Crazy In Love and realised that was sampled from a Chi-Lites song, and I knew what I wanted to do. If I'd known I was going on 8.45-9.30, I might have made a change or two - like taking out Lolita Storm, which did clear the dancefloor.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Now if only you'd played the Hammersmith Gorillas version of "You Really Got Me" that would have been a perfect set.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 October 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i learnt last night that minimialist belgian techo sounds a lot like girls aloud.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

we marvelled at how much 'X Offender' appeared to be a complete rip-off of Springsteen's 'Born To Run' - predictably good stuff Martin - fun to see you singing along to all the songs as well.

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I would've danced to Lolita Storm had I been there (I was all set to come until about 7pm when I realised I was too tired to move).

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i wondered where you were, ah well next time eh?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I talked to roxy on the phone! She was nice. But very quiet. The kids outside the shop were WAY COOL. One of them had a firework in his pocket and I had to pretend I wasn't scared to that they didn't start thinking that I wasn't also WAY COOL. When I got home I played GTA for about an hour then gave up because I was too drunk and just kept getting lost and falling off my bmx. Then I got up this morning, and turned on the PS2 again, and realised that I'd had it plugged into the wrong SCART socket, the non-RGB one, which meant that everything was tinted yellowy-green. And I hadn't noticed the whole hour I was playing! I was properly broken.

Martin's set contained some great things which I hadn't heard before. And Matt's transition from East17 to Ebeneezer Goode was beautiful.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

we marvelled at how much 'X Offender' appeared to be a complete rip-off of Springsteen's 'Born To Run'

???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I talked to JimD on the phone! He was nice and I was quiet. Sorry, Jim, I was smoking and every time there was a pause for me to talk I was taking a big inhale.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello everyone. I am still alive, but I've only just got home. r0x0r. Still, great night and I am very relieved that a) people danced, b) I didn't fuck up and c) none of my CDs skipped (damn you Mannion for giving me the fear). Martin's set was fantastic as well. I'm fairly sure I didn't play Girls Aloud, but then again I didn't play half of what I intended to. Still, stuff what I did play, off the top of my head:

Le Tigre - I'm So Excited
Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone
Annie - Me Plus One
Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Erol Alkan edit)
2Pac - California Love
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Justin Timberlake vs Black Strobe - Like I Love Me And Madonna
East 17 - House of Love
The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi (Synthpop mix)
Britney - Toxic
Daphne & Celeste - Ugly

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, i'd forgotten about the double daphne and celeste playing...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Also my friends were all very impressed with the sheer volume of fun had last night and want to go back next month, which makes me think the night was a success. And some of them know StevieT and Mrs StevieT, which was a bit random.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Steve the first thing I noticed when I started playing that was you going "DAMN YOU!" Still, there's not enough D&C and Club FT.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally, I'm slightly worried that this is the third thread when someone has asked "is Matt DC still alive?"

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

haha sorry matt it was britney toxic actually i was thinking of - young people's music all sound to same to me.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

So Martin, are you suggesting that "Hot Lips - Wet Pants" wasn't juxtaposed with tATu on purpose...?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

(xpost)

that's because it's all written by cathy dennis.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 October 2004 11:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the phantom song writing menace

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

D&C were played?! I should've overcome my tiredness. I'll DEFINITELY come to the next one, promise.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 29 October 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah tiredness wasn't a valid alibi

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess it's time to break it to Kate that she is our illicit child, marianna.

When Marianna told me you were "very accommodating", I really had no idea.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh my god. KEN WHY DID YOU TURN ME INTO A BACON PAINTING?!?!? That really freaks me out.

The dancing, oh the dancing. What fun. Except for the bit at midnight where all the boys suddenly turned into pumpkins and DISAPPEARED TO GO AND BUY VIDEOGAMES, I MEAN, WTF?!?!?

Man, that was great fun. And a reminder that Daphne and Celeste piss on taTu FROM A GREAT HEIGHT!!!

I plan on rearranging rehearsal to make it to every single club in the future. Especially if CarsmileSteve and Tom actually make good on their drunken promises to let me do a shoegazer bubblegum set!

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

how does one sign up to this DJ list thing? one would have to be an FT contributer i suppose..

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

a reminder that Daphne and Celeste piss on taTu FROM A GREAT HEIGHT

thank you for ruining my day there

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ruining? Or do you mean because you'll have to spend the rest of the day beating off frantically?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

mark, get off this thread you bad boy ;)

ken, all you have to do is ask.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

haha mark i was just gonna say...

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yay steve can i sign up?? i've got a great idea for a set list.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, stupid web cafe won't let me send email, dammit.

Thanks to this thread, I seem to somehow have agreed to go to a Halloween costume party as Pete Libertine's Drug Habit. Oh dear.

Though maybe I should just go as the TWO FACED ZOMBIE MARIANNA AND KEN C LOVE CHILD!!! (Is that criminal enough, though?)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

well it'll not be 'til jan or feb, but yes.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

REMINDS STEVE THAT HE ASKED VERY NICELY FOR ANOTHER SET SEVERAL WEEKS AGO THX BYE

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

woot!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i bet my set would be better than yours mark.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

there'll be more DJs than punters at this rate (that actually happened to me once - oh dear)

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, DAMN RIGHT, it'd be better than yours.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

and would bring all the boys to the yard

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, hey, I asked first! Humph! That would help redress the gender imbalance of the DJ-ing.

(However, the problem being that if you are DJ-ing, you can't be DANCING at the same time, unfortunately.)

Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit (kate), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

(OH YES YOU CAN!)

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)

(Rob OTM)

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

that's true actually, the podium isn't too sturdy and the CDs would probably skip

everyone should calm down about the DJing - perhaps there should be a lottery?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Too many DJs is not a good idea.

Then Club FT would become like an improv gig - the audience looks reasonable until you realise they're all musicians waiting for their turn.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 October 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So Martin, are you suggesting that "Hot Lips - Wet Pants" wasn't juxtaposed with tATu on purpose...?

Only in that those records were on my final shortlist and the sequence seemed to offer a good transition from the brief rock section into the female section (which I didn't realise I'd created until I looked back at it).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Too many DJs is not a good idea

I'd LOVE to see them at club FT! But I imagine they command a pretty high fee these days...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

they'd teach you rob, but they'd have to charge.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

they'd teach you to rob, but they'd have no change.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 29 October 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

they'd teach you to rub to create a charge

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Roxy wins!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 29 October 2004 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Did I miss Stevie T? I am getting good at that.

Martin's list looks nice, on the whole. I don't know Hot Lips Wet Pants.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 29 October 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Erol Alkan edit)

i didn't notice the difference between this and the original - and it felt a bit long for an edit ;) it is funny how 'House Of Love' was the big ignition track last night

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

and YAY FINALLY DR JONES WAS PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

They are different Steve - Erol just beefed it up a bit, added a beatless breakdown and a glitchy and BIG WHOOSHING NOISES when it kicks in. I played it mostly for the whooshing noises actually, and actually turned it up at that bit.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Hot Lips - Wet Pants was the one minute track that sounded like a girlgroup version of Atari Teenage Riot.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

in an ideal world this is how all music sounds...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to check the Felix and Glimmers mixes of Mylo sometime.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Friday, 29 October 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

If it cleared the floor for one minute, that is good, it gave the wood time to recover.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 29 October 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)
