The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Friday, 5 November 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I think being stalked by Ned would be beneficial, he'd probably just threaten that you listen to some good neo-shoegazer acts, OR ELSE.

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Friday, 5 November 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

If he did my nanowrimo for me that'd be handy =)

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 5 November 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

It'd take more than cheap wine to give me a three day mongrel, but then I am getting older.

"Andrew Weinstein, a spokesman for Netscape, reiterated the fact CNN itself had nothing to do with the slur. He says the Netscape employee responsible has been fired.

"A junior employee at Netscape identified two election photos with image tags that used inappropriate, disparaging terms," Weinstein told WorldNetDaily. "As soon as the situation was discovered, it was immediately corrected, and the employee has been terminated." "

Ooer thats a bit harsh!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 5 November 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean sure fire him, but killing hims a tad overboard innit.

what's the summary?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, left wing bloggers break story of this girl, who is editor of Farrago, as one of those liberal types posing as greens on election day. They find her blog and it really is quite offensive/hilarious - homophobia, rascism with a dollop of bridget jones.

This chick, Miranda Airey-Branson (for real, mang) lashes out against one of the bloggers who have been poking fun and gets Andrew Bolt to write a character assassination piece on her.

alexlewblogspot.com -> Miranda's new blog with her mates.
reasonsyouwillhateme.blogspot.com -> Marieke Hardy, the blogger Miranda got Bolt to write about.

For the record, Miranda wrote a fawning interview with Andrew Bolt for Farrago last year describing him as 'sexy'.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

So wait, Ms. Airey-Branson didn't deny she was being a homophobic racist?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

andrew bolt is sexy? that makes me feel a bit queasy. is the herald sun column online?

gem (trisk), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope.

Yeah, Gem, it's there right now.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Sunday, 7 November 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

he's such an arse. i think he manages to insert "also backed by taxpayer's money" into every column. i'm convinced his entire life is dedicated to avenging himself for a left-leaning arts student refusing to shag him when he was at uni and put the hard word on her. *vomits*

On the upside the delivery mang delivered my shiny new Netcomm 4 port ethernet/wireless DSL modem router... YAY!

A few more days and the DSL should come online. woot woot. Good bye dialup.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 November 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW Abyss kinda sucked anyway, Jim. They STILL PLAY THE SAME MUSIC. I can't believe it. "Personal Jesus", Manson, NIN, Tool, etc. Dom says he got asked by someone "are you new to Melb, never seen you here before" which was hilarious (we used to go to abyss every week years and years ago... bloody babygoths). Nick got very very very very drunk and was being hilariously loud.

Then he had to go to work the next day with a monster hangover. That'll learn him.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 November 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

trouble is you have to wait til its dark when they have left the roof and then you have to nail in a really sturdy bit of wood over the hole then you have to lie in bed and listen to them get frantic trying to get back into their lifelong home.

then you have to hold your breath as you hear them staggering away crying.

Ah, fair enough. I wouldn't be caught dead living in St Kilda proper.

I know people who used to live right in St Kilda, and they had to move because random prostitutes would 'serve' their clients on the front lawn.

My last day is technically Nov 30th... but I'll finish the Friday before that as I start one of those crappy "how to write a CV and sell yourself and do interviews" course thingys on the monday. At this point mind you, me and my TL who stayed behind are sat here bored out of our brains with nothing to do. I'm leaving at 4 today (when Nick shows up) so we can go PC shopping then go see a film.

Who's watching Little Britain then?

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 8 November 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ive watched it but I wasnt sure I liked it really. Too League of Gentlemen for my tastes. Normally I really like brit comedy too.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 8 November 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to repaste this here - Nick wrote this about this mornings bird drama. I was suprised at how funny it came out. Boy's a comedian.

Wow, that was certainly the most interesting morning off I've had in a while.

Sitting in the lap of luxury, I was served a loverly breakfast in bed, followed by a light nap. All seemed well, until I was woken by a brown and white blur flying through the room with kitty in tow, who for all intents and purposes was flying aswell.

In my rush to discover what coffee-colored menace so rudely interrupted my bliss, I engaged with a one on one with doona, to which a braver battle had never been fought. I feel I came out on top, even if I did roll off the bed in the process, but I had subdued one of the two feathered beasts that was now making my morning such a misery.

Kitty leapt around the room like the floor was made of lava, desperatly grabbing at air and absorbing a face-full of wall, while the propogator sat stressed upon the blinds, a wild fear embracing it's eyes.

A bloody finch, of all creatures, had lead to the destruction of a once wonderful sanctuary filled with sleep and all it's benefits.

My mind had clicked; I was no longer a normal boy from the suburbs, but I had the agility, adrenaline and mindset of a cro-magnon hunter. Thusly, I screamed like a girl and ran out of the room attempting to brush the menace from my hair in a frenzied fashion and closing the door behind me.

Unwittingly, I had trapped both hunter and hunted in the same enclosure. Realising my mistake, I opened the door and was dutifully greeted by a face full of bird and a crotch-full of mid-leap kitty. I swerved like a hong-kong cop with nothing left to lose, as if I was avoiding the bullet that should have my name imprinted on the side. However, due to my fantastic lack of coordination, I met the doorframe in a spectacular display of style.

Now two homewreckers were loose in the living room, one desperate to kill, one desperate to survive. And then there was me, snapping up the phone and locking myself in the bedroom in what I felt was the most manly of all descisions. I called Trayce yelling blue murder. Still in cro-magnon mode, all I could get out were vague points of interest about my current situation, pieced together in a reasonably logical manner.

"BIRD! KITTY! IN HOUSE! HELP!"

Alas, the phone, my last resort in this time of need, died by my ear. Thankfully, it was granted a second life, as seconds later it burst into song. Answering, I found that Trayce was certainly more level-headed about the situation than I, and suggested I actually pick up the darn cat and seperate the purpetrators of the problem. I carefully trotted out to the kitchen to see a bird perched, almost naturally, on the coffee-making gizmo. It was hopping around like an excited ninja student, while its predator sat idly on the ground with a fierce stare that could make objects explode. After a moments hesitation, I snagged the furry meatbag and slammed her in the bedroom. The look on her face was all I needed to know about what she was planning to do to me, my friends and my family. Not a happy kitty.

Now, I thought the task would be easy; Bag the bird and set it free. However, now this sordid game of cat and... err... bird, had turned into a game of "Find the damned thing and get rid of it before it shits everywhere". After a quick scan of the area, I found a fluffy lump nestled neatly behind the microwave. Strange how this machine, this cooker of birds had now become a sanctuary for this bird equivalent of Tiny Tim.

Gently poking bread at it, I tried to entice it out, but bird was happy in his spot, lying on his side, looking like he'd set up camp for the night. It was now time to call the RSPCA, now the situation had been defused, but there was a new problem. The cat was now spitefully guarding the room that contained the pages of yellow. Once again, I faced that furry face at full speed, running in and out with the tome I required.

Upon calling, I discovered there was in fact no menu button for "OMFG BIRD IN HOUSE HELP PLZ", much to my dismay. After holding for an operator, and being reassured how important my call was, my call was answered by a person of some gender who sounded like they put my cigarette abuse to shame. After retelling my story in excrutiating detail, the person on the other end seemed more interested in the cat.

"Is it yours? How is it? Is it a fluffy meatbag?"

I only answered with a capitalised directional point that the bird, in fact, was the problem.

"BIRD!"

I was redirected to someone of more use. Or, at least, someone who had more experience dealing with people who spoke only in single word sentences.

This persons croaky voice and phlegm-filled lungs had triggered my addiciton once again, and as I lent down to retrieve my 'happy sticks', my oversized cheekbone thwarted my hastily concocted plan by pressing the button of which did hang up the phone.

"Bugger", I thought aloud.

I called back, trying to remember which department I was being redirected to. I succeeded, and when the hold music subsided, I was reassured I was not alone in my confusion in the situation.

"Oh my god, what the hell? Get a towel!"

I wasn't planning on hitchiking anytime soon, so the towel comment seemed somewhat uncontextual. However, I soon learning that towels appear to possess a magical property that disables a birds ability to fly, so I rushed into the bathroom and grabbed the fluffy bird-stopper... the one WITHOUT claws.

All seemed to be going well, until I returned to the kitchen to find the bird, who was previously behind the microwave, had moved its position to the top of the blinds, out of towels reach. In a moment of desperation, I flung the towel menacingly, and the bird got a new burst of strength, flying at full force into the living room wall. I persued, bathroom apparel in hand, a sense of purpose in my mind. I flung open the balcony door and retracted the blinds. Birds freedom was now only a step away! Alas, he seemed more interested in the window, of which he flew into. Lesson learned, he tried a different approach; flying into the window harder. Confused by modern technology, he sat bewildered on a pile of clothes, staring at the glass, waiting for it to let down its guard.

With my superior brain, I realised this was not going to happen. I lunged the towel in birds general direction, and distressed by the flowing torrent of white which threatened to limit his freedom, he made a desperate defensive move towards the door and flew outside.

I slammed the door shut, raising my arms in victory, and releasing the house lion to come and inspect all that she had lost. Bird had won this round, although to this day I doubt he even knows how he did.

This story has been in my family for generations, passed down from father to son to pet.... and now to you. Tell it to your children, so that they may too act like a sissy whenever a tiny finch does penetrate their fortress.

Today, I am a man.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 8 November 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahahaha, that's brilliant.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 8 November 2004 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

adam did I ever burn you a copy of the first one?

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Monday, 8 November 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

You did bits. A sampler, if you will.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 8 November 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 8 November 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Monday, 8 November 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Monday, 8 November 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

today feels like a good day. how is everyone?

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm looking for a song by an Australian synth band of the 80s called something like Anabus Form caled "Itchin' in The Kitchen". Any leads?

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate meetings more than i hate life itself

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't have an exam today. that's good.

gem (trisk), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

admittedly, in the meeting we did discuss the likelihood of less meetings in future, which can only be a good thing.

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the sort of meeting i can get behind. i hope the bit about having less meetings was carefully minuted

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

haha
i hate meetings because they are a combination of the extremly dull and the extremely likely to be asked for a comment if not paying attention.

bulbs (bulbs), Monday, 8 November 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I just emerged from a meeting. Was an ok one tho - I actually learnt stuff about a product Ive provisioned for years! Heh. And I'm about to leave.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 00:58 (twenty years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know whether John Saffran's Music Jamboree music mole series (my namesake) exists in transcript form? I can only find it in realplayer form:

http://www.musicjamboree.com/body.html?id=285

But this is a work computer and I can't download it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:23 (twenty years ago)

I have the DVDs, but I'm buggered if I'm transcribing all the Mole sections for ya ;) When I get my new PC I might be able to vidcap them? Not that I quite know how :/

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:36 (twenty years ago)

I just never saw them all, and as you can probably guess, I am a fan.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 01:40 (twenty years ago)

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Has Janne died? This is sad news indeed. I will sacrifice a rodent in his name.

Yay Trayce! Look after yerself ffs. Nice day to have off too, it's glorious out there.

The solarium burnt me because some woman used the wrong bed by accident. Argh. The one who was there today [manager?] fell all over herself apologising and put me in a proper weak bed this time.

You people, crisping in the sun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 02:30 (twenty years ago)

It wasn't THAT bad, just red when I shouldn't have been red. I didn't blister or peel or anything nasty, and it certainly wasn't as bad as the everyday burning I can get from just going to the shops.

Trayce, the burning's all gone, so I'm doing a very very very very very cautious time in a very very very very very very weak bed. The idea behind all this is to help prevent me getting skin cancers in Cairns [I sweat sunscreen off ffs], not to go all bronzy and plastic fantastic. I'm not into that sort of thing.

I'm still on GTA: SA. Last night, I stole a combine harvester from a right-wing survivalist cult, who tried to machine-gun me and block my path; I ran them over with the blades of the harvester.

The soundtrack to this: Rod Stewart, "Young Turks".

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 23:47 (twenty years ago)

Ha!

Oh! Reading Jess's article... it seems I *was* on the right track as to what noize/wolf eyes stuff is. Did I not make myself coherent enough last time I said what I thought it was? Its like the extremest Aphex Twin stuff, like Merzbow, like all those guys with 2 laptops and a crapload of noise layers in fruityloops or cubase, yes?

I had friends in perf who did that stuff. Unbearable toss, I reckon.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Ms. Lady Di, there is allegedly a NEW ZEALAND RESTAURANT near where I live. Do you want me to investigate?

yes please, ha that could be hilarious.

sadly, michael, the tucson outback steakhouse had no VB, just fosters.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 11 November 2004 07:45 (twenty years ago)

I want to walk into one of those Outback places and put on an outlandish Australian accent, in the hope that they think I'm a fellow American taking the piss out of Australians.

'Gidday! Ooooi'll havva beeeeer... thaaaaanks... maaaaaaaaaaayte. Kooooooooip... the chaaaaaaaaaaaaynge.'

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 11 November 2004 08:17 (twenty years ago)

we pulled into a drive in bank in texas once. the entire staff were huddled around the tellers window going "say that again...no say THIS" and laughing at our accents.

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 11 November 2004 08:31 (twenty years ago)

I'd do the same back. Americans are the weirdest sounding creatures on the planet, with all their 'non-dairy creamer' and whatnot.

Hi Kenan! Hi gem!

I think I need to kick it with the smoking. My chest hurts and I feel like crud, and I am just not enoying the damn things anymore. I'm going to go out and buy a crapload of fruit juice, clean and air out the house, and cos my mum's coming to stay I cant smoke for a week anyway. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 November 2004 00:55 (twenty years ago)

Just had an exam for the worst and most perilous subject I have ever done in my entire life. Then we went down the pub and bought drinks, and 30 seconds the lecturer rocked up and harshed our buzz.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 12 November 2004 06:12 (twenty years ago)

Man, that sucks. When I finished my last class for the year last Tuesday my lecturer took us all down the pub and bought us beers. He also said to me (possibly while intoxicated) that he "really enjoys me as a student". Whatever that means.

choo choo the herky jerky dancer (papa november), Friday, 12 November 2004 06:58 (twenty years ago)

Heh, i just figure everyone is from Sydney or Melbourne. I thought I was the only interloper.

Don't bother making Canberra exciting for me, I shant be dropping by any time soon.

king of the eyesores (papa november), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Like it can be made exciting. I moved here from Brisbane in January and I was amazed that it was just as dull as people said.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 11:13 (twenty years ago)

If it's dull compared to Brisbane it must really suck

The last time I went to Canberra was like the 1989 Summer Nats or something with my Da'. Now that was dull.

Team Deathcrush vs. gabbneb/Meeder '08
Armament: Two .357 hollow points loaded into a revolver
The two teams are seated at a card table under a single 40-watt lamp which hangs in the center of the darkened ring. Mr. Meeder, positively sickened by his teammate's perverse assumptions concerning American polity, reaches for the gun and puts it up to gabbneb's head. He pulls the trigger. No joy. Sami, in a fit of excitement to the point of drooling, snatches the weapon from Colin's hand and puts it into his own mouth, yanking the trigger repeatedly until he gets lucky. Now spattered with the blood and tissue of his overeager comrade, Janne thinks quick. He retrieves the pistol and aims it at the two stalwart liberals, hoping for a draw. The second bullet makes short work of Colin's cardiovascular apparatus, leaving Janne and gabbneb to stare at one another through the haze as "Lovefool" begins playing over the stadium loudspeaker and the collective sanity at the table erodes to nothing.

Victory: Karlsson/gabbneb '08

-- TOMBOT (roun...) (webmail), November 16th, 2004.

Suprisingly really that Janne and Sami didn't make a necklace out of coiln meeder's bone fragments.

you induced someone?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 01:12 (twenty years ago)

what is happening here?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:00 (twenty years ago)

here? many things. anything and everything.

my flat is now all nicely repaired and repainted. the green wall so lovingly painted by my ex is now white again. i kinda preferred it green but i ain't living there no more so it's irrelevant to me really.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: moving records is one of the biggest drags in the world.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:21 (twenty years ago)

yes. but then again it gives you an excuse to look through them again.

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Do you keep them in milk crates?

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago)

nar. that would be handyish though. they're a pain because they get very heavy very quickly so you can only use small boxes.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago)

actually yeah i did see a few things i'd missed hearing whilst packing them up. i think my immiment remastering orgy will be kinda fun really.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:25 (twenty years ago)

i find milkcrates millimetres too small. they scuff and slightly bend the corners of lp covers.

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago)

i was having a fantasy about digitising my lp collection and sticking it on a 40gig ipod.

Wow. The ones I use are millimetres too big.

Who'd have thought milk crates would come in different sizes? Not me.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:31 (twenty years ago)

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:32 (twenty years ago)

handles?

planescapin' 'til dawn (Homosexual II), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago)

Nice feeling innit? :)

Mandee: I was made redundant in August. I've been unemployed for two months on Monday.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:25 (twenty years ago)

i have a horrible creeping suspicion i may not be able to use DSL at my new house. my dialup speeds are awful and the line keeps dropping out.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:41 (twenty years ago)

Man, that sucks. Do you think it's a problem with the line itself or something else?

king of the eyesores (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:57 (twenty years ago)

there's a godawful hum on the line which i'm sure is affecting the speed. i don't know if it will affect the DSL or not, i'm hoping it won't... worst comes to worst i'll get a new line installed, it's cheaper than paying out my contract.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:00 (twenty years ago)

You should get it fixed free, shouldn't you? If the line is faulty [which evidently it is]?

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:06 (twenty years ago)

More'n likely it would affect DSL - you would have to get a new line installed yeah. I cant see why Telstra should charge for that if the line was faulty, maybe your landlord should wear the cost? Not sure if that would fly.

xpost oh stop stealing my brainmeats you!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:07 (twenty years ago)

holy shit, trayce, thats a redundancy package worth partying over! i guess i've never been made redundant so I don't know what happens. I think in the USA you get a pen and two weeks pay.

planescapin' 'til dawn (Homosexual II), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:28 (twenty years ago)

a pen for filling out your dole form? that's very sweet of your former employer

gem (trisk), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:29 (twenty years ago)

do you get the dole in the states? i thought you had to rob and kill and stuff

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:31 (twenty years ago)

I keep hearing disparaging accounts about "government cheese" and food stamps

king of the eyesores (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:32 (twenty years ago)

isn't it called a 'welfare check' or something? i get most of my information about the states from watching partial episodes of law and order, i'm not sure how reliable it is

gem (trisk), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:34 (twenty years ago)

don't you just get it for a couple of months and then it runs out and if you haven't got a job you have to rob and steal and stuff?

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:36 (twenty years ago)

and kill too, i forgot to mention you have to kill

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:37 (twenty years ago)

My sister lives in a shanty town in so. cal. so I think most of what I'm hearing must be somewhat authentic.

king of the eyesores (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:37 (twenty years ago)

they probably give you a gun along with your last welfare check

gem (trisk), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:38 (twenty years ago)

You should get it fixed free, shouldn't you? If the line is faulty [which evidently it is]?

i really don't know - i can't see that happening somehow. i guess i'll find out either way soon enough.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:41 (twenty years ago)

does your whole family live in the states p_n?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:42 (twenty years ago)

I think even Canada has a system whereby you only get the dole for a limited time, and IIRC it is in proportion to how long you worked your last job. So the longer you were there the more time you got dole. At least thats what my canadian ex told me.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:49 (twenty years ago)

I think you can only get it for 6 mos. in the US.

planescapin' 'til dawn (Homosexual II), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Nah, mum and dad are over visiting my sister who lives there with her mexican born husband.

They're due back in a couple of weeks. So far they've purchased all manner of things for us kids left behind including a kickass electric violin for my brother (I think he wants to be Miri Ben-Ari) and those mad shoes I posted an images of a few days back.

My father has also apparently purchased a late-model chev which he may or may not bring back with him.

My sister also bought a pet iguana the other day at a flea market. Apprently she is calling it jub-jub a la the simpsons.

king of the eyesores (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 03:09 (twenty years ago)

Did you get the reasonably useless iron on transfer as well?

god made dirt and dirt bust ass (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 03:56 (twenty years ago)

whats the soulwax like? i remember the last one as pretty undistinguished. and who red sun band?

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 18 November 2004 03:57 (twenty years ago)

it doesn't have patrick gibson on it???

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:00 (twenty years ago)

no iron on transfer. maybe that's why it was cheap? the soulwax is a good pop record. red sun band = sydney trio, like very early pj harvey with a slightly dreamier edge. i don't think it's very well produced, unfortunately..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:13 (twenty years ago)

Nah and some of the lyrics are pretty shocking. Have you ever seen them live James. Theres something she does with the delay on her vocals that I can't quite figure out and have wondered a number of times if you could pull it apart for me.

god made dirt and dirt bust ass (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

i've seen them twice, the second time the sound was so shocking it wasn't funny, and the to my chagrin guy mixing them was someone who had mixed us many times.. i don't remember anything particular about the sound of the vocals tho'...

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:22 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm..I've seen twice at the Zoo and the sound was spot on. I just can't think of how to describe what it is she does but it sounds wonderful.

god made dirt and dirt bust ass (papa november), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:23 (twenty years ago)

it would not be hard to have a dreamier edge than early pj harvey. ac/dc have a dreamier edge than that stuff.

I found all the wankers were in the north! ;P

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 19 November 2004 10:03 (twenty years ago)

sydney
= north = old family based rich cunts and their sprogs
= south = new business based rich cunts, gays, indie kids from private schools, retirees in city flats.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 19 November 2004 11:42 (twenty years ago)

beep beep.

bulbs (bulbs), Saturday, 20 November 2004 05:44 (twenty years ago)

today i built a barbeque and a bookshelf, and a table too.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Saturday, 20 November 2004 06:17 (twenty years ago)

a barbeque????

what did you build these things from jim? and have you a yard?

bulbs (bulbs), Saturday, 20 November 2004 06:37 (twenty years ago)

a modest yard. i built them from their consituent parts, so it really wasn't all that impressive. but i can have barbeques now! which is nice.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Saturday, 20 November 2004 06:43 (twenty years ago)

we have a barby. the placement is built of sandstone. the actual barbeque is old and grease encrusted. only 2 of the burners have knobs. buying replacement knobs is more difficult than i would have thought.

bulbs (bulbs), Saturday, 20 November 2004 07:22 (twenty years ago)

I could put a bbq on me balcony, but I fear it would piss off mrs upstairs bitch. Which now I think about it is a good thing. Still.

I have indoctrinated Nick into Bab 5 and he loves it now haha. we just rented out a whole set of vids. Plus the Day After Tomorrow which we're about to watch.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 20 November 2004 08:48 (twenty years ago)

You are all making me hungry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 20 November 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Well, if that isn't the pot calling the kettle black.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 20 November 2004 22:22 (twenty years ago)

We did two gigs last night - one a lacklustre effort in the Cross, the other a really cool fun one in a crusty art gallery warehouse with 500 people gettin down! We came on after a Hungarian 5-piece and before an instrumental ska band. Everyone was going, 'wow, it's so bohemian - it, its Melbourne!!'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 20 November 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago)

i saw smog and neil hagerty. they weren't as good as i hoped but worth the six bucks.

god made dirt and dirt bust ass (papa november), Sunday, 21 November 2004 08:30 (twenty years ago)

unfortunately, he didn't. he didn't even do that nasty one about weddings.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 21 November 2004 08:34 (twenty years ago)

Maybe he only does them for the over $6 shows ;)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 22 November 2004 05:42 (twenty years ago)

How much later were you up after I stopped talking to you last night?

papa november (papa november), Monday, 22 November 2004 05:44 (twenty years ago)

Like, ten minutes.

I fell asleep, entered this hellish demon realm of waking up and falling asleep again, stayed awake from 2.00 to 5.00 until Caitlin did this visualization thing and yoga exercise with me and I was out like a light.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 22 November 2004 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Why would anyone wanna work on the 'Games. Hm. I dont like how they dont say what jobs are available ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:33 (twenty years ago)

I'm keeping an eye out.

Writing a resume is the second hardest fucking thing on the planet. Writing a resume when your last job was total shit is the hardest thing on the fucking planet.

Daffyd, the only gay in the village (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:42 (twenty years ago)

unh huh.

Remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:48 (twenty years ago)

I didnt care much for my job in the end, but the one thing I'll give my almost 6 years here is the amount of shit I've learnt how to do. Everythign from general pot plant helpdesk work, to privisioning/data entry, to customer support, to basic networking and router skillz, web hosting knowledge, biz analyst stuff, and some tech writing. So I think I can whack out a fair "I can do THIS!" kind of resume.

I've always been good at spinning gold out of shit, me.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:52 (twenty years ago)

Clearly, I never learnt how to type, however.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:53 (twenty years ago)

I posted my resume around here at some point. But I left out all identifying details, and the work I was doing at the time.

Remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 22 November 2004 06:56 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, that sounds a lot like my old job. We really need to knock our heads together innit.

Daffyd, the only gay in the village (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:10 (twenty years ago)

woohoo, my DSL is working again! rejoice rejoice

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:31 (twenty years ago)

Who paid for it to be fixed? :)

Daffyd, the only gay in the village (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:36 (twenty years ago)

i suppose it was me! it's interesting, i was told by different people that having a poor quality dialup line and being on optus as my carrier would mean my DSL wouldn't work at all. they were wrong on both counts.

being without DSL was like being without booze. tolerable, but not a whole lot of fun.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 22 November 2004 07:54 (twenty years ago)

Hello mongrels. I am in an internet cafe in Sydney. Entertain me, please, while I wait for my flight back to Brisbane.

Man, put the pressure on!

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:03 (twenty years ago)

The DSL works? Blimey, thats a stroke of luck then!

I honestly did think that if yr line was full-service optus then telstra would refuse to hook it up, unless it was with big pond. Some really shitty dodgy thing like that anyway. Maybe they do that but only with some wholesalers (like us for eg). I dont know, I provision dsl but the whole damn thing confuses me.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:05 (twenty years ago)

I have an entertaining story about a person I live with who bought me a DVD to watch, watched the DVD himself several days ago and has inadvertantly placed the DVD in one of about 10 piles of other CD's and DVD's in such a way that I cannot find this DVD that was apparently bought as a present for me.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:08 (twenty years ago)

That's good! The feelgood story of the summer. Lots of the text in this thread is being rendered as Japanese characters for some reason.

thanks col...good attempt to cheer me up. you ever feel like going straight to the the pub, do not pass go?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:20 (twenty years ago)

(x-post) We hid all the trappings of smug middle class consumerism before you arrived gaz. To avoid embarassing you or creating situations where you might not know which knife to use. Also, we asked cook not to make comsomme that night lest you complain that your soup was cold.

I feel like going to the pub right now actually - and it's 8.30am and I have a mild cold.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:23 (twenty years ago)

shall we? can we?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Sadly I must tidy house, look after daughter and nurse cold. But you and I have a date with some corpsepaint and a camera, my friend. I suggest a night of alcoholic stupidity and dress-ups - then straight to photobucket with a bunch of stupid photos. What do you say?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:27 (twenty years ago)

i say yes of course although the gardening photo will be hard to beat.

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:29 (twenty years ago)

True - and there are more in that series from the same band that are just as funny.

So I reckon we just play it straight, like we're not trying to be funny or anything - straight black metal grimacing for the camera, in a selection of clothes, with Rachael applying the corpsepaint. I mean, like Vas's photo, that was inspirational. We can then photoshop ourselves into a variety of necrocvltic settings, like Punchbowl RSL.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:39 (twenty years ago)

haha have you got any wigs?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:42 (twenty years ago)

two options there:

* Our friend R*cyie P*ttycat has a thousand wigs

* We can get witches wigs from $2 shop

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:44 (twenty years ago)

We also have a variety of knives to pose with! And Rach is ready and willing to apply corpsepaint. All we need now is to be pissed.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 21:49 (twenty years ago)

shall i arrive pissed?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:17 (twenty years ago)

It's almost rhetorical.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:19 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:50 (twenty years ago)

It would need to be a fishy flaoured golly to really satisfy.

What's with beer anyway? Why don't I just carbonate my own piss and you can drink that?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago)

would it get me drunk though?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 23:00 (twenty years ago)

i think, carefully marketed, carbonated piss could really sell

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 23:03 (twenty years ago)

i was thinking the same thing. after all we invented alco lemonade, alco mineral water, alco ice blocks.

do you think we could market my spoof iceblocks too? for use in vitamin heavy health drinks? did i just overstep the taste barrier?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 25 November 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Fuckall and nothing! Well, it probably depends where in Richmond you were. Some bits look nice but they'd be more pricey. Some bits are chockers with factories and grot and trains and trucks all over the place. Some ok restaurants tho I guess.

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:17 (twenty years ago)

This is a gob of human phlegm which is flavoured with Thai fish oil.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:19 (twenty years ago)

i have the fear over where this might go

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:27 (twenty years ago)

I know what gem's thinking: toasted 'Old Man' skin flakes. They would be made by a company called Long Pig. "Each one hand crafted from the hard heel skin of an old codger". In a variety of flavours - my preference would be cream cheese and chives. Cannibalism has never been so delicious.

There is of course the Ned Raggett range which includes a variety of sweet meats, and some not so sweet.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:54 (twenty years ago)

lamingtons remind me of cakestalls at primary school

gem (trisk), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:54 (twenty years ago)

lamingtons and chocolate crackles. Blergh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:56 (twenty years ago)

mmmm copha mmmmmmmm

gem (trisk), Thursday, 25 November 2004 02:57 (twenty years ago)

gem (trisk), Thursday, 25 November 2004 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 25 November 2004 05:39 (twenty years ago)

no no take the 8 mil!!!!

don't you own yer house already? you moving?

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 25 November 2004 06:17 (twenty years ago)

We have a big pile of equity in this place. We're moving when I finish my degree. I love putting the cart before the horse type thing.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 25 November 2004 06:19 (twenty years ago)

By my estimations we'll have about 400-450,000 to spend on a place so I'm whetting my appetite so-to-speak.

Been offered job - for 6 months - think I will decline as no real ongoing prospects - stay in current job and wait for something in the same organisation only more long term. Your thoughts?

I'll be in Brisbane from 2 Dec to 6 Dec. Any of you in Brissie then?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 01:00 (twenty years ago)

is good job? is possible to get leave w/out pay at current job?

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 01:10 (twenty years ago)

That would be great! I'd love to work for you!

Miriam got married last night!

haven't bothered asking for LWOP as I really don't want to learn a new job for 6 months, only to come back to the old one. So I'm calling soon to say no thanks.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:40 (twenty years ago)

she married brad i'm assuming, unless she's trying to get a US passport. tell her congrats etc etc. and brad too. he might remember me. we used to live next door to each other on taylor square. plus other mutual friends.

haha can you imagine working here. we'd be in hysterics pointing out ilx things and acting the goat. job vacant soon though.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:43 (twenty years ago)

be sure to courriel me about this job as I'm interested.

Yes, it was brad, nice wedding. I'll pass on your congrats, she doesn't really know we've met up again - I keep forgetting to tell her!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:46 (twenty years ago)

you just don't want to mention me. she hates me, doesn't she?

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:48 (twenty years ago)

No, hate is not part of her world. She doesn't blame you for scarpering on her band, but you know, we could've all been rich and famous by now if you'd stayed. It must EAT you up inside.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:50 (twenty years ago)

it was just the one night and i had a root lined up. after that i figured no one missed me. if only aussie idol was around in those days.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:52 (twenty years ago)

hey, who's andy lon*dale? i wondered if there was a pic on the web and found this instead :"... has also worked with now-legenday sydney punk-dub band Wr*ng Kind of St*neage"

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:56 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:57 (twenty years ago)

OK, so now today isnt my last day here anymore, hahaha ... oh pooey I hate not being able to decide on things!

Now working part time for december.

So tired... so... zzzzttt*splat*

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 26 November 2004 03:59 (twenty years ago)

thats good trayce thats good. part time work is excellent. time to do what you want and still an income and structure to your life.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:01 (twenty years ago)

Andy L*nsdale did indeed work with WKOSA - and he's been mentioned here before. he's a great electronic/darlk ambient producer. Google his name, he's still active.

Yeah Trayce, see how you go, it might be heaps better.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:02 (twenty years ago)

yes i remember you mentioning him...i can't remember him working with wkosa. what did he do? when? or is it another alias of yours mole?

(still can't get over the fact i quit something now-legendary...for a root!)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:04 (twenty years ago)

I would quit The Rolling Stones for a root. No, he's not an alias of mine- he's a long time frined of M's. He's into keyboards and dark noise. Here's some more info:

4 Shizz.

Just Kate (papa november), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:10 (twenty years ago)

Of course, gaz, you would've met him had you not quit the band. You might've even ended up on the desk for Itch-* & Scr*tch-*. But you gave it all up didn't you? For a root. WELL I HOPE IT WAS A GOOD ONE.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:11 (twenty years ago)

if i was on the desk for i & s you would not have done half as well.

you may however have become now-legendary.

(in truth though i was glad to be out of it, as you know.)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:15 (twenty years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:16 (twenty years ago)

The band or the root? it's your choice.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:25 (twenty years ago)

I thought most guys joined bands to get roots?

Just Kate (papa november), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:28 (twenty years ago)

i wish i had a photo of THE band. Miriam is an attractive girl, true. The other members, sadly, were not chick magnets at all.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:31 (twenty years ago)

I was charismatically ugly however.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:36 (twenty years ago)

I forgot to tell you - I was in charge of the music for the bridal waltz. Miriam showed me where the volume was and told me when to hit play. Come the moment, the music was too quiet - I adjust the volume - nothing! After about 5 mins I located the correct volume knob. It was a classic WKOSA moment.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:37 (twenty years ago)

i believe you had a skateboard. did you ever pull as a result of being on WKOSA?

hahaha xpost: magic.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:38 (twenty years ago)

I never pulled in WKOSA. I never even pulled in I&S for years - then one night I pulled 5 girls at once! I was so nervous I couldn't go through with it. MISSED OPPORTUNITY.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 26 November 2004 04:53 (twenty years ago)

I still kick myself over that one. I am kicking myself right now.

bulbs (bulbs), Saturday, 27 November 2004 08:52 (twenty years ago)

No, we played last night at a fetish event. My god, what a bunch of... ah, never mind. We had a terrible time. Some minda of a fetish girl just started wandering around on our stage, kicked over a beer, nearly shorted out my equipment. AND she still wouldn't leave. Rach cornered her, hooked her hair gently behind her ears, lifted her face to hers, and said, 'You got a beautiful face darling. Don't make me mess it up'. The girl just nodded. That was definitely the highlight.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 November 2004 07:04 (twenty years ago)

Yup. That's one shitty combination.

Arsehole of a day in the city today. You had the Fox Red Bull Billycart Derby with Kyle & Cunty O (Bogans fucken EVERYWHERE), the Ukrainians protesting at Parliament House, roadworks and weddings at every single church in East Melbourne.

Shit of a day for a picnic.

bulbs (bulbs), Sunday, 28 November 2004 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Club K**ky and just raving conversation. I like yanks, they are so rad and so uptight at the same time.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 06:17 (twenty years ago)

Yes, all, I had a great time in SF.

My cousin had a brand new mini-cooper convertible with a talking navigation system. The night after I rode in it I had a super-vivid dream about being trapped in the belly of a talking jar of pomegranate jelly.

Remy Snush (x Jeremy), Monday, 29 November 2004 06:19 (twenty years ago)

Real horrorshow, that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 November 2004 06:24 (twenty years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:16 (twenty years ago)

how's the new drum machine music going?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:17 (twenty years ago)

slowly. although the remix is progressing well so far. the new mixes are much more lively and there's reverb and distortion out the wazoo

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:23 (twenty years ago)

i saw architecture in helsinki on sunday night. their new material has a strong jo jo zep influence

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Like, Taxi Mary?

'Don't be such a nasty boy
Ya wanna squeeze me tight and call me honey?'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:30 (twenty years ago)

exactly! the zydeco revival stars here.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:33 (twenty years ago)

well that means they're more rhythmic and upbeat now?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:39 (twenty years ago)

correct. their old material sounded pale in comparison. plus the male singer sometimes sings in his range now, which is nice. and they did a go betweens cover that was not a slaughter.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:40 (twenty years ago)

not so fey, a bit more gutsy. sounds alright!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:53 (twenty years ago)

we just found out that the place voni works at over hol periods has arranged for someone else to set up a ahem beauty parlour which does massages and will not be requiring her despite contacting her and confirming that she would be working just a week ago. i had already booked a month off to cover for her. and we are broke.

the fuuuuuuuckers.

help me plan my revenge.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:09 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, this is not really a joking matter. Can you simply change your own holiday plans until she can sort out some other work?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:11 (twenty years ago)

Is there a tribunal?

I feel rotten today. Big famuly dinner last night. Bloated, I collapsed on my bed and slept like a little lapdog as my girlfriend played Morrowind.

I woke up this morning with the sweats and a baaaad headache.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:15 (twenty years ago)

obv she has to find some other work possibilities col...but its...just...not...that...easy. plus they are underhand lying fucks. plus she doesn't want to undermine her integrity. plus i want a fucking holiday.

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:23 (twenty years ago)

long service leave? or other forms of leave? or is it simply that you want revenge? Because there's a good one in Re/Search book 'Pranks' involving Boyd Rice and a bottle of wee.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:27 (twenty years ago)

what? i'm still taking my hols. but yes i want revenge. i want the beautician to have her face eaten away by acid and whoever her management fuckbuddy is to lose his dick in some horrible accident. i want everyone else involved to get some horrible disease where they discover maggots in their genitals and i want the place itself to burn down.

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:31 (twenty years ago)

Revenge has a way of wreaking itself without human intervention. Or, if that does not satisfy you,you could always go into character as Sami and pay them a visit.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago)

put something mildly toxic in their massage oil that will give all customers a nasty rash

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 02:54 (twenty years ago)

I SAID LIE THE FUCK DOWN ON THE TABLE.

Now, beautician scum - it will be pleasing to begin to rub in the oil.

Eisbar: the company credit card: C/D?

ah, the classic-ness of "the company credit card" is overwhelmed by the dud-ness of "the tyranny of billable time."

(if not one imagines you have plenty of material to free-form on about perhaps making the music one has been making for years, suddenly achieving popular success but still not coining it bigtime; changing band name at peak of popularity (and label?) and how this may affect cred vs income OR NOT; former band members later taking overly commercial direction with music for multinationals while other members start own indie labels etc etc)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:58 (twenty years ago)

why you hiding Remy?

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Following the 1990s poll nomination thread I'm overly sensitive.

Remy Snush (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Aww Jer *hugs*

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:00 (twenty years ago)

why, what happened? i been avoiding those poll threads.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:02 (twenty years ago)

um, I was really disappointed in the nominations and I said flippantly (which I should have known better than doing) that 'this list is moronic' and 'some good people need to come through here soon or I'm done with this shit' and garnered about five billion complaints for being snobby and three seperate 'fuck yous' as well as a long argument with a poster I'd previously admired. I admitted fault, wrote the baldest self-defense I could think of, and when that was done was acused of being snobbier.

Remy Snush (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:05 (twenty years ago)

I know this is going to make you mad Remy but that entire post is basically "I am not a film snob because I transcend snobbiness into a whole new realm of ueber-snobbiness that requires a new word in the English language."

Remy Snush (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I knew I was avoiding that thread for good reason.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:07 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:10 (twenty years ago)

Also some of those film people like Todd and Amst are AWFUL SNOBS.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:12 (twenty years ago)

My two suggestions were 'flirting' and 'crying game' so I feel good. Nobody questioned either of them.

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:12 (twenty years ago)

isn't snob a cool word? that should be on the cool word thread. the sound of it totally suits its meaning.

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Ned, you're way wiser than I am.

Eh, I wouldn't call it wisdom, just a knowledge that some things aren't all that appealing to me. All the poll threads mostly breeze by me -- I can see how they're fun and all but I'd rather read some of the results instead of get involved putting 'em together. I HAVE my list for the 90s, for instance (thus), so all I wanted to do was to confirm in the end that the result for this vote was the same as the last vote -- MBV AT NUMBER ONE, YEEHAW. Etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:13 (twenty years ago)

Slowdive! It's been so long! I loved that album.

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:14 (twenty years ago)

The great thing about the word "Slowdive" is that it makes me think of two equally brilliant things:

http://www.creation-records.com/slowdive/slowdive.jpg

http://www.vamp.org/Siouxsie/Images/single-slowdive.jpg

"Get your head down to the ground
SHAKE IT all around
Do the sound..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:16 (twenty years ago)

You suggested Flirting, Jer? The Aussie film? YOU RULE! I love that movie (and The Year My Voice Broke as well). Both have resonance with me for also being filmed in the area I kinda grew up in. TYMVB was set in Braidwood, if I recall properly, and while I didn't live there, I went there a lot as it was on the way to our beach house so we often stopped there for pies and milkshakes and fizzy drinks and a rest in the park.

Ah happy days.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:19 (twenty years ago)

so if all us snobs what really know whats good avoid the polls then the polls will be full of shit and ilx might attract people who like shit.

just kidding

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:20 (twenty years ago)

I feel like listening to "40 days" now. Only it might make me sad, so maybe I better not.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago)

Flirting made me cry.

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:21 (twenty years ago)

i liked the year my voice broke much more than flirting.

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:23 (twenty years ago)

I hain't seen either of them in years, I must watch them again.

I like it when things make me cry, even if it is embarrasing, heh. Like that episode of Futurama where his dog waited and waited for him outside the pizza shop OH MY GOD *blubber*

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:24 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I haven't seen Year My Voice Broke. It's actually sitting in the next room on top of the TV, and I was planning on watching it tonight.

i think i might have cried in the year my voice broke actually, what was the girl character's name?? her life was so bloody disappointing but she was beautiful all the same. the actress is beautiful remy, i think her name is loene something.

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:26 (twenty years ago)

I cried in In the name of Father when they chucked the burning paper out of the prison windows. I am not ashamed.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:28 (twenty years ago)

i always bawl my eyes out in cinema paradiso

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:29 (twenty years ago)

isn't it funny how we say "i cried in abc movie" as if we're actually part of the story

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:29 (twenty years ago)

It's always sad when Darth Vader dies. Oh wait.

(Actually I have no problem in saying that the scene on the river between Frodo and Sam at the end of Fellowship in the movie version is stellar tearjerking stuff, but there you go.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:30 (twenty years ago)

And that said, best weepy moment for me in movies over the last few years -- the part in Spirited Away when Chihiro tells the dragon his real name.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:32 (twenty years ago)

um, I wrote a mini-essay on the bad poll thread about crying in movies -- I'll email it to anybody who wants it.

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:32 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't mind Remy...

papa november (papa november), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:33 (twenty years ago)

there used to be a hallmark cards ad where an old lady checked her letterbox every day and never got any letters and her neighbour across the street sent her one which used to bring a tear to my eye on a daily basis. old people feeling lonely always makes me sad.

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:34 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I remember that one. I'm getting all weepy thinking bout it.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:35 (twenty years ago)

I cried at the end of Terminator 2.

haitch the carnivore (haitch), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:47 (twenty years ago)

When I was 11! I was a... delicate child, I think.

haitch the carnivore (haitch), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:47 (twenty years ago)

highly strung?

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:48 (twenty years ago)

I cried at the end of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone because it was such a shit ending and I'd wasted $7 renting it.

Adamdrome Crankypants (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:51 (twenty years ago)

now that's highly-strung!

haitch the carnivore (haitch), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:53 (twenty years ago)

Shit ending? The whole fucking thing was shit.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 3 December 2004 01:57 (twenty years ago)

You haven't seen 'Oh! How firm my Rhubard! (A Mouse Horror Operetta)'? Oh you Phillistines! How can you call yourself a fan of cinema when you have not witnessed De Kocksach's 'CINEMA FAECES' art-brat-terrorism, a major influence on Don Leron Fujiwan-kah's series of short films, 'Le Pope Fuck'.

I snort derisively.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 3 December 2004 02:42 (twenty years ago)

seen 'em? i was the guy who smuggled them through customs.

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 02:45 (twenty years ago)

I love how certain tv shows make me yell at the television, and not in an angry way. The girl and I have been devouring this HBO miniseries called Deadwood and whenever anybody's about to open a can of whoopass, we're all 'SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD, HE'S A GODDAMN LYING COCKSUCKER! DO IT! HE'S GOI A KNIFE! LISTEN TO ME! LIIIIIIIIIIISTEEEEEEN TO MEEEEEE!'

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 3 December 2004 02:49 (twenty years ago)

like drama recast as footy.

we were in this cinema once that was kind of like continuous showings for small cash and all these bums seemed to be using it like as a cheap place to crash or keep out of the rain or something and they'd all be waking up halfway through and yelling at the screen. it was some jack nicolson film and his wife (whos having an affair) tells him she's got to go away to the country for the weekend and this woman in the audience yells out "Up the country ma ass! Up the country and roun' that white boys fuck-ing dick!!!" and all the bums (and us) are laughing hysterically and we're all yelling "beeeyitch!" at jack nicolson's wife.

I just finished 'Year My Voice Broke' and ... man, what a great movie. Noah Taylor looks a lot like Ian Johnson used to at the same age, though more kiwified.

Remy Snush The Night Away (x Jeremy), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:23 (twenty years ago)

kiwified?

the girl character's name is freya isn't it, it came back to me eventually

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:33 (twenty years ago)

He's Australian isnt he tho?

Anyhoo, I always thought he was cute. Like a young dorky Nick Cave :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:34 (twenty years ago)

Er Noah that is, I dunno what Ian looks like ;)

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:38 (twenty years ago)

I just layed the groundwork for the most mental marissa marchant remix ever.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:39 (twenty years ago)

OMG I'd forgot how YOUNG Noah was in those films! I suppose it was a long time ago.

I wanna watch it again so I can see Braidwood and go "IVE BEEN IN THAT CAFE! I'VE SAT IN THAT PARK!"

PS Jer, you guys are all just TOO CUTE in that pic I love it to bits :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:42 (twenty years ago)

i remember the year my voice broke as just being one long reflection of what it was like growing up in rural australia, different town and landscape to where i grew up, which was on the coast, but otherwise so much the same.

gem (trisk), Friday, 3 December 2004 05:44 (twenty years ago)
