Is that during a free museum day?
if so, hit up the AIC and MCA

even if not, they're worth seeing if you're into that kind of thing.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the Middle Eastern Bakery and Grocery today for the first time. I can't believe I haven't been there in the 3 months I've been here.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Although, this garlic hummus lingers quite a bit.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Saturday, 6 November 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you been to Taste of Lebanon across the street? Gotta get a falafel and hummus wrap there. Gotta.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 6 November 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds awesome right about now, Jeff and xpost Kenan!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 6 November 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm off now to eat at 1492 Tapas. I hear good things. Reports forthcoming.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 6 November 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm a chi-town ex-patriot. i really miss the city. in a used book store last night i read 'chicago' by studs terkel and it brought me to tears (but i'm a sap anyway). can't wait to go home...

nora (nora), Sunday, 7 November 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Chicago is one of my favourite US cities (that I visited while backpacking - oddly (apparently) my favourite US city - favourite city ful stop, in fact - is Pittsburgh.) It has a very nice 'feel' to it.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Sunday, 7 November 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the D0uble D00r tonight to see H0t snakes! :-D It was awesome. I walked there from my apartment. They played with R3d 3yed Legends - great show. And I had Honker's Al3 - another great thing from Chicago...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I was gonna take a pic of myself now, post H0t Snakes show, but n/a didn't want me messing with his camera ddrunk. Also, becauwse I don't have pants on, but also I wouldn't take a pic of myself below the waist anyways.

But yeah, chicago rules.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 7 November 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Drunk and pantsless is one of my favorite ways to be. Congratulations!

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 8 November 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Those are gorgeous, Kenan! What building interior is that?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

That, my dear, is the naturally lit lobby of the Rookery, 209 S. LaSalle, designed by one Frank Lloyd Wright. It really is stunning.

Kenan (kenan), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is the Middle Eastern Bakery & Grocery?

Also, does anyone know where I can get spinach pierogi?

k3rry (dymaxia), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan, That looks much more welcoming than his studio house, which I toured with my dad on my birthday.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 8 November 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Middle Eastern Bakery: on Foster between Clark and Ashland. you can't miss it, since Foster between Clark and Ashland is about 1/3 of a block. I don't know about pierogi. I buy 'em frozen and fry them myself.

xpost -- I haven't done the Oak Park house tour yet. I hear they're all surprisingly small. Actually, the lobby of the Rookery is surprisingly small as well, once you're in it, but there's no way to take a picture of it that won't make it look spacious. That's part of the genius.

Kenan (kenan), Monday, 8 November 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hollywood Beach is great in the summer, when you can watch Ice Man and Maverick play volleyball.

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Things I need pictures of, to make myself cry:

Apartment - 15o1 n. b3ll / North between Bell and Damen / Division - Jinx, Leo's, etc. / Montrose - east of Ashland? Minimall with Subway, etc; house across street / area around Wilson, Sunnyside / Nightclub - Berlin / U of C admin building and green roof across Ellis / Rogers Park: Pannini Pannini (on Pratt) if still in business / down Sheffield from the Mongolian barbeque place / streets around Empty Bottle, Sonotheque / used car lots on Western

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

They have spiffed up Leo's in the last couple of months: new menus, new tables, they took down all the dusty old postcards, etc. I can't tell if this means it sucks now. Probably.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna move to chicago.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also in that North+Bell region: the strangely classy Polish hot-dog place on the north side of North (but obviously east of Western).

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

You should. We can go see more crappy experimental Super-8 films and awesome masked political bands!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I miss saying that I lived "south of North and east of Western." Saying that is as fun as saying "I come from the land of the burning ice and the frozen fire."

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I NEED A CHICAGO VACATION.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I live south of North and east of Western! I'm going to start saying this. Right.....now!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I still think about moving there. I don't think I ever will, sadly. I'll still be there for a day or so at the end of the next month. What should I do for an afternoon/evening?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to move to Chicago or New York, next year.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

New York is for sellouts.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Sonotheque

I live across the street from it, so that's no problem.

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

mr teeny will be taking the illinois bar in a few months, it's definitely a possibility, but maybe not for a few years.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

in the meantime, if I keep being unemployed, I may visit more often!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Woop woop!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

More yelling at trains!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I still haven't met the lot of you! (Save for jaymc.)

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

We should have a super FAP, problem is finding a date/time/venue everyone can make it to.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone still want to watch a movie with me Friday night? From Netflix right now I have:

A Hard Days Night Collector's Series
The Rules of the Game
Arrested Development, Season one, disc one

I also have "Nashville," but that might be a bit of a time investment to ask of anyone.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Fake Fictions 2NITE at Subterranean. Be there or don't.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't. Have to go see Neil Gaiman speak at DePaul. I did not choose this event.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

kenan, he'll be charming . . .

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

But I already know that!

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

We have a CD of him reading a couple of his children's books... to his daughter. It's just about the most adorable thing you'll ever hear.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

is it that you'd rather not go or just rather be doing something else?

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan, I may be able to hang out on Friday night as indicated previously, depending on what Sarah and her sister decide to do. I will definitely be looking for stuff to do during the day on Saturday, as they will be out Xmas shopping for hours and hours.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post I'd rather be fucking.

Nick, saturday afternoon is great! It'll be cold outside, I'll make hot chocolate. And then we can snuggle.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmm hmm.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

awwww.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

My sister: "Where is Nick these days?"
Me: "Snuggling with this guy he met on the internet."

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

So Sarah and her sister are going to see Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason tomorrow night, so I'm calling for a guys night out (code for me and Kenan cuddling and watching Steel Magnolias). Who's "up" for it (heh heh)?

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Up and ready. I'm nearly out of money, tho, so let's make it cheap and slutty.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I'll cancel the classy strippers and call the skanky ones instead.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, maybe. I'm having dinner w/people at 7 pm but should be free afterwards. Except I have this nagging feeling there was something else I was supposed to do. I'll let you know.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm busy this weekend, but maybe another?

amateur!!st, Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

No. No other weekend.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm all booked up FOREVER.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Now that you've got a girlfriend, you think you're such hot shit.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa. That was weird.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't have a girlyfriend yet, but i'm working on it

amateur!!st, Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I really need a job where I have stuff to do that will distract me from ILX.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasn't offended nick; i presume you wrote it in jest

amateur!!st, Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

It was! It was in jest! In jest!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll give you something to ingest.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa. That was weird.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

just lez up already dudes

amateur!!st, Thursday, 11 November 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

But then we would lose all this sexual tension that keeps the Chicago threads exciting!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it friday yet?

Good show last night!

I don't think I'm doing anything tomorrow night.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Awesome. Thanks again for coming to the show and bringing more law school peeps. Maybe we'll solidify tomorrow night's plans on this thread tomorrow.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night, Elizabeth of Canasta fame said, "Don't you just love the Fake Fictions, they're so cute!!"

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay!
Options for tomorrow include:
1. Movie - Sideways/Primer/Incredibles/Undertow? But this maybe unfeasible due to trying to find something none of us have seen and $$$.
2. Boozing at bars.
3. Boozing at someone's house (but not mine).
4. Writing poetry and then reciting it.
5. Pogo stick context.
6. Playstation 2 (but I only have one controller!)
7. Bungee jumping and boozing.
8. Chinstroking.
9. Zoo animal freedom expedition.
10. Canoeing on Chicago River and boozing.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I like booze.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha "pogo stick context" whoopsie daisy!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It makes sense though, in contest.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It's my goal to expose at least 1 new person to the FF's every show.

re: tomorrow night. I vote for a combination of all 10.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I vote for my house. It's empty, 'cept for moi. And really quite spacious when there's less than 30 people in it. And boozing at home is cheap. And it's cold, so I don't want to go anywhere. I just rode my bike home from work without gloves in 37 degree wind, and my fingers are screaming to be pressed against a ceramic heating tile.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Okey dokey. Your house is fine with me.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yay! I like hosting. Somebody bring popcorn, though.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, wait, I don't have a microwave. Somebody bring a stove tin of Jiffy Pop.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

NO MICROWAVE?!?!?! MOVE BACK TO TEH STONEAGE, CAVEMAN HIPPIE!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, we eat cold leftovers a lot. It's not so bad, really.

Kenan (kenan), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

so what do we think... around 8? Who's coming?

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Be there or feel the wrath of the ninja!

http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/1105/csmimg/p12a.jpg

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Those photos all do look pretty nice. Need to visit one day.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 November 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there. I'll bring the coke and hookers. and GI Joes.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

no hookers, plz. it's a classy joint.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it for Friday or Saturday? I can't make tonight.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

it's ok. it's not a big thing. just some beer, maybe a movie. we'll have a proper FAP another time. Tomorrow night John and Nick's bands are playing together... that'll be cool.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

John, are you going to sit in on keyboards with FF?

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

where are FF & canasta playing?!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ice factory

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Question, though: what and where is an Ice Factory?

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a link to the Ice Factory website on the fake fictions site (www.thefakefictions.com). It's on the 500 N. block of Ashland. It's a loft space. I don't know what the name means but maybe it's a Mosquito Coast reference (the Paul Theroux novel)?
I thought about asking jaymc to sit in on our cover song, since it's a song by a band that he was actually in for a few months (it's a long story) but I forgot to. Oh well.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Their page doesn't seem to be working now, at least for me, but it is:
http://www.fprecords.com/

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I found it anyhoo. Ashland and Grand. I like shows I can walk to.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently i am staying at the best western at 162 e ohio street. is that anything?

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'mn sure I don't understand your question.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i've never been to chicago.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It's down in the business-y area with all the other big hotels, right? So you'll be down with the skyscrapers and the Chicago River I think.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be easy access to most of the big touristy things to do (Sears Towers, Millenium Park, etc.)

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's River North (just north of the river), right off Michigan Avenue. Great location. Try not to shop too much.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

sweeeeeeeeet.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, I'm pretty sure it's a hotel.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh! It's the "Inn of Chicago" building.

http://www.worldexecutive.com/pics/14101.jpg

That's actually really cool. You get to stay in a very old hotel.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought about asking jaymc to sit in on our cover song, since it's a song by a band that he was actually in for a few months (it's a long story) but I forgot to. Oh well.

I can pick it up! Seriously, I have it on CD at home. I don't think there are any keyboards on the original, so I could just play organ chords. Yes?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, there are only 3 chords in the song, and we play it in E, so it's just E-A-B through the whole thing. YAY!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the ice factory was actually an ice factory back in the day.
xpost

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm even more excited now. i hope they don't make me "work".

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you guys sound-checking? We can rehearse it then.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I honestly have no idea about anything. I'm not sure when we're supposed to be there, guy just said anytime after 6. But we'll figure it out.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark -- another view. You can see the Inn of Chicago building at the bottom center.

http://giganticmag.com/photoblog/images/04.03.27.jpg

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, just so you know, we're sound-checking at 6 exactly, because Megan is actually going to go to the Pixies show and come back!

Which reminds me, I have a Pixies ticket for you I can give you either tonight or tomorrow.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Right, if you come tonight, you can just bring it with you and I'll give you the money for R.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

my hat! don't forget my hat. My hair is a mess without it.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You got it, dude. So what time are people coming over? I'm going to eat dinner with Sarah and her sister but I can come over after that. And should I bring booze? What kind of booze? What are we going to do? Do I need to bring Freaks & Geeks or Arrested Development, or are we going to GO INSANE?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, do you have Arrested Development on DVD? That's perfect, 'specially since I haven't actually gotten it from Neflix yet. Yeah bring that. And anything you want to drink. And a pocket pussy. Bring one of those.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Sarah coming, or is this strictly sausage?

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The whole point is that Sarah isn't coming because she's going to see a "chick flick." Read the thread, dude.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

oh. Yeah, I forgot.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

NO DUDE, Sarah + sister are going to Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason which is why I'm high and dry, and didn't I say this upthread?
xpost
but if other ladies want to come I won't be offended, I got much love for the ILXor LADEEZ.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I AM MORPHING INTO NOIZE DUDE O NO!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys should get t-shirts made that say "strictly sausage"

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

kenan, didnt you just move to chicago like pretty recently??

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He has assimilated very well ;)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i'd say!

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you guys should get t-shirts made that say "strictly sausage"

That's gayer than I am.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

He has assimilated very well ;)

That's great, too! I hate when people move here and just stay in Lincoln Park or wherever and don't bother to really learn about it.

k3rry (dymaxia), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan probably knows more about Chicago than I do!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear if you go anywhere west of Western, you automatically get stabbed.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

True. I looked it up.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, if you go South of Jackson Park, you will be consumed in flames.

Kenan (kenan), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I looked at an apartment right on wester, south of North, and the lady who was showing the place to me looked and talked like Tony Soprano's wife. She said that she was glad I was a male, because it just worries her too much to rent to the girls. It was a nice apartment, but there was too much traffic/loudness right on western.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't know if I'll be able to make it, I might be a little late, if so around 9ish.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Saturday, 13 November 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ok so on the off chance that i get 3-4 hours to roam around the neighborhood next week, can anyone recommend some good places to visit? i'm thinking specifically in terms of shops (ie. record stores, boutique clothing stores, bookstores, etc) and restaurants.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 13 November 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you mean the neighborhood around where you're staying?

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 13 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

aye.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 13 November 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

In that case, no. There's nothing cool where you are. Just places to spend an assload of money.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 13 November 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

:/

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 13 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Go Here.

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 13 November 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Kenan (kenan), Saturday, 13 November 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I love all the Chicago ILXORs.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Come visit!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to! Esp. now that I've made your list. Perhaps after the Thanksgiving kerfuffle is done? (I wish my dad lived in Chicago and not Normal, IL.)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Sure! We'll figure something out...

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I owe my friend Ben in Chi (who lives on McLean Ave.) a visit too, maybe I can combine them. Unfortunately his girlfriend and I don't like each other so much. He would be a fun ILX addition though.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm chai

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually owned that album!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

todd swiss (eliti), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually owned that album!

i had the 'if i ever fall in love' cassingle and the album. i loved shai

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 06:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah and I will be on a CROOZE from Dec. 8th to 14th so don't come then. Because then we'll cry.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

FANTASY Cruise, no less - with his relatives!

I'm ready for another FAP. I missed out on the drunken music-listening session Friday night.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Madison FAP this weekend! Except, I'LL be the one doing drunken music-listening, YOU'LL be playing instruments!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You said you would play tambourine with us though, for at least one song.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah. Amend that to 'drunken music-listening while playing tambourine', then.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do tricks with a tambourine.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Should I ask?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

How could you not?

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Do tell.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Not like that, you pervs.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Not like what? I didn't say anything.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Like what, then? I have a genuine interest in tambourine tricks both sexual and non-sexual in nature.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhat off-topic -- so does anyone in the Greater Chicagoland Area want a copy of the ILX Comp Vol. 2 besides me, Nick, Sarah, and Jocelyn? And Nick/Sarah -- do you want one or two? I am going to submit an order to Jel soon.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post I want one!

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

One is probably fine for us, I'll just end up iPodding it anyways.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

hi guys! im excited.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

jocelyn please, PLEASE, we're all dying here! My God I have to know right now... WHAT EXACTLY CAN YOU DO WITH A TAMBOURINE?

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hi Mark. Next weekend, right?

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

tomorrow!!

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh cool! Even better! Got plans for the evening?

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know, it's all so shady. i'm coming with my boss. i've been told to 'conduct meetings' but i don't really know with who. i have no real concept of whether i'll be busy tomorrow or not.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post I can throw it up in the air and do a kick and catch it on my foot, etc.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You should try and learn to roll it from your hand down your arm to your shoulder and then back down to your hand again, like a Harlem Globetrotter but with a tambourine.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That's awesome, tell us more!

I can play gospel-style tambourine on my ass btw, and may do so if I drink enough.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Sometimes if I'm coordinated I can catch in on my foot and sling it around up into the air and catch it with my hand again. Only sometimes. If I drink enough I can do the bottle dance from "Fiddler on the Roof"

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

NO WAY. Wait, is that the one where the Russians are doing the squat kicks?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought that must have been CGI.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

sweet city! i approve.

your friend,

mark p.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh good!
How's the hotel? Was there a free continental breakfast?

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The likelihood of a free continental breakfast decreases in an inverse relationship to the price of the room (i.e., nice hotels have expensive cafes and bistros on the 1st floor, cheap ones have awesome free breakfasts where you can often make your own waffles).

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I could go for some waffles. And some fried eggs over hard, and some coffee.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Is anything exciting happening the weekend of Dec. 4th? Would that be a good time to FAP/visit?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I think that Sarah and I will be here.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Jocelyn -- my band is playing a private party on Dec. 3 and then I'm probably going to go see the band Phoenix on the night of Dec. 5. I'm up for hanging out on the 4th, though!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Jocelyn, come and FAP with ME on December 23rd!!!

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm actually scared of how cold it's going to be.

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

In chicago?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what your and the FF's plans are for Sunday, but I have brunch every Sunday at 12:30 with one or two of my bandmates at the BEST BREAKFAST JOINT EVER.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, in Chicago.

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

adam-I have to work until the 24th of Dec. grrgghlajjdl. Are you and Mrs. Adam going to be in Indianapolis at all? I know some good pubs/clubs there.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There's going to be a fun show at the Empty Bottle December 3rd if anyone wants to come with.

xposts - Sounds yummy, jordan. I always want breakfast.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

What show is that, Sarah?

Jordan, you sent me your cell no., right? I don't know how early we're leaving on Sunday, but we'll figure out plans on Sat. night.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Jocelyn - I don't think we will be going to Indianapolis, as we're only there for the weekend. :(

adam... (nordicskilla), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel a bit bad, pushy even.
What weekend in Dec. is good for you guys for Fapping?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

(Instead of me just announcing dates)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't feel bad! The only thing I don't know as of yet is that Canasta might be doing some recording on either the first or second weekend. But it'd be mostly during Sat. (and maybe Sun.) afternoon.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, don't feel bad, with this bunch you basically have to make the decisions and tell us what we're doing. Like I said, the only time Sarah and I can't do stuff is between the 8th and the 14th, when we'll be out of town.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the second weekend is out for n/a + Sarah (Cruisin') and me (workin' overtime)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The December 3rd show info is here:
http://www.emptybottle.com/calendar.php

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 18 November 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

( I mean the later of the two shows that night)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That looks fun!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Telanovela are kind of our homies, though they probably won't remember us.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Meanwhile, I will be wowing a room full of software developers with my own musical stylings.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

In the suburbs.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless you want us to crash the private party, Jaymc? WE can make it just like the Fight for your Right to PAAAAAAAARRRRTYYYYYYYYY video.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 18 November 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it's a wrap party for, among other things, LEISURE SUIT LARRY. So I think there will be plenty of partying! And light-hearted sexism!

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Thursday, 18 November 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Light-hearted prostitution, even. Ho ho!

The Fake Fictions were mentioned in the Isthmus (Madison's free weekly) this week: "Chicago's the Fake Fictions (who include ex-Madisonian Ben Beilow on drums) open along with Charlemagne."

I'm splitting for Minneapolis after work, so I'll see you crazy cats at the show tomorrow.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 19 November 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

See ya, Jordan.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 19 November 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(your drummer's got the connections, yo!)

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 19 November 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that a direct quote? 'Cuz if so, they misspelled Ben's last name. Oh well.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 19 November 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oops, that was my error. Is it spelled "Bilow"?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 19 November 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess that's what happens when you don't list last names on your website, chum.

YUP YUP.

Dec. 4 actually works for me!

I'll be headed back to Kah-lee-for-nyah on the 12th, so the 4th actually represents my last chance to ChiFAP for this year.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Saturday, 20 November 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Dec. 4th (OMG Jay-Z's BDAY!) is looking more and more likely for me for hanging out.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Sunday, 21 November 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to a basketball game on the 4th, early afternoon. after that I can get as drunk as I am right now. Which isn't as drunk as I was before. I need puppies.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Monday, 22 November 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm having kittens.
What kind Chicago ILXor will let me stay on their couch on the 4th? I'm planning on being around during the day on that day too, to do some Christmas shopping, and then if anyone wants to hang out before Fapping that would be fun.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 22 November 2004 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

joc. - If you're not allergic to cats, you're welcome to sleep on our couch, it's very comfy! I slept on it last night. Not like I got kicked out of the bedroom or anything, I was just tossing and turning and I was afraid I was keeping Sarah awake and she had a job interview today so I knew she needed her sleep so I went and slept on the couch instead, and I slept really well, so I recommend it. I just realized the 4th is a holiday party that everyone at my work was invited to, but I don't want to go to that anyways, so fuck 'em. BIG CHICAGO ILX FAP DEC. 4th RULE!

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 22 November 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Great show on Sat., dudes, seriously.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, how was WISCONSIN???

(Incidentally, I just learned that my extended family is doing Thxgiving in Lake Geneva, WI, this year. Nobody actually lives there -- I think we're staying in a hotel?)

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick, that would be great. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
I want the details of the concert, guys.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Wisconsin was great, I really like Madison AND Milwaukee. I'm going to write up a little tour diary for the website, when it's up I'll link it for you fools.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

kelsey, Will you be able to come to the thingamajig on the 4th? We hang out before then too if you want. Will you be in town this weekend? We could hit up Victory's Banner one day.

And thanks, Jordan. Sorry I couldn't hang out with you more. I had to spend some time hanging out with my friends that live in Madison and running around being all nervous.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

No problem Sarah, I had to spend time hanging out with my friend Julia who preferred to go to townie bars for bowling/teaching me bar-shuffleboard rather than seeing the rest of the Dials. :>

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I can probably do the 4th as well . . . depending on what happens, I may be doing some interviews, but that won't last *all* day! & yes! sarah! i'm here most of the weekend. I think we're coming back into town saturday afternoon at the latest...but maybe friday night. i'll let you know. can you email me your cell # again? i lost the 3 scraps of paper i had written it on, but now that i have a cell phone, i can store it there!

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 22 November 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

guys, a musician friend just sent me a disturbing e-mail:

NOTE: We ask any and all Chicago music fans to please
never go the Subterranean on 2011 W. North Ave. There
was an altercation where the Subterranean bouncers
responded to the misconduct of one patron by beating
innocent members of the audience (men and women)
indiscriminately - one bouncer even viciously shoved
[xxxx] from the [xxxx's] from behind in the merch
table, then tried to tell police later that she tried
to shove him down the stairs. (xxxx is barely five
feet tall and the bouncer is considerably larger).

So if you disapprove of big thick-necked cocksuckers
who get off on pushing around women and and other
defenseless people, then please NEVER GO TO THE
SUBTERRANEAN AGAIN. Fuck them, fuck their mothers and
fuck the churches their mothers go to. Assholes!

sorry about the anonymity.

bob nope (bobnope), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, they do have some beefy-looking security guys at Subterranean, but I've never seem them go past the front door where they take tickets. Anyways, I have trouble taking this seriously without any, you know, facts.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to forward that to Matt and maybe Derron. I don't know anything about it.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(Also, as long as Derron keeps booking shows for us, it's gonna be hard to make me stay away.)

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

am i too innocent? i can't figure out what the xxxx's are for.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The name of someone in one of the bands playing that night.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

oh.
thanks!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone's curious about what Matt said, e-mail me and I'll forward you his response. It's probably not that big of a deal, though.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i am curious!

todd swiss (eliti), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, from the vague stuff Matt had to say, it sounds like what I expected, that there were assholes on both sides.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm, I was kinda hoping to keep that off the thread, Nick!

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

?
If you want to ask a mod to delete it, that's ok...I thought I was being pretty nondescript though.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry if I caused a problem.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"Nondescript" isn't really what I mean, but I was trying to avoid saying "vague" again and my brain isn't working.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

remind me to tell you all about the awesome new (!!) record store in hyde park

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

amateurist, tell us about the new (!!) awesome record store in Hyde Park.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I LIKE Chicago. Damn fine town.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick, I know it's non-descript, but my main concern is that I don't know who "bob nope" is -- maybe he's in the band [xxxx].

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, I see. Well, I'll ask a mod to delete in case it's not too late. Sorry.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I've already done that.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn fine town.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

chicago is a damn fine town.

i only want to move there if i am going to be popular though, really.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You're always popular with me, Mandee.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

You will be popular if you stop eating at Subway. That's just grodey.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd let you eat at Subway, Mandee.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Quizno's, if you like.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

can we meet in the middle?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Arby's?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

arby's is definitely NOT the middle.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i hear chicago has a lot of hotties.

I like it when people say "please advise" in their e-mail. THEY DO NOT WANT ADVICE.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i hear chicago has a lot of hotties.

Did you even LOOK at the Chicago FAP pics I posted yesterday?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Chicago has a lot of doofuses.

Kenan (kenan), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

hotties are overrated.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i said that your sister, you, robotsinlove, and jaymc are all stunners. sarah's a stunner, too. so is kenan. am i missing anyone?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Chicago is full of sexy doofuses. Doofi.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

We Bay Aryans are hotter.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to know hot guys in Denver, but I think they either all got the middle age uglies or just moved.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope I don't get the middle-aged uglies!!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You never could, adam.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the awesome new (!!) record store in hyde park is called hyde park records and it opened last friday. it's on 53rd street. near dorchester i think. where the old 2nd hand tunes used to be. three big music nerds who run the place basically used their collections as, um, "seeders" or whatever its called. so they have an awful lot of great music (almost all used) for reasonable prices. i think everyone should support them. i hope they make it.

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

HOORAY!!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

That is the best news I've had this week, I kid you not. Too bad I'm kind of way too busy to sink myself there.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

i put the double exclamation marks after "new" because it seems so unlikely a climate for someone to open a new indie record store. i'm afraid they'll go the way of the evanston reckless records and that record store on belmont which recently closed but was kind of crappy anyway but well you get my point. so i hope to do what i can by spreading the word. it's actually worth a drive down to hyde park even if you're on the north side. they have a bunch of ethiopiques volumes for sale still, and a bunch of kevin ayers reissues, and that aphex twin remixes thing for like $10, etc. oh and the creedence clearwater revival box set, but i've sort of got my eye on that.

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i worry that the very hip (in a good sense) nature of their existing stock will cause a problem, because although hyde park is smarming with undergrads with presumably hip tastes, that didn't save reckless in evanston. the hyde park record stores with any longevity tend to cater equally or more to the tastes of the many black residents of hyde park and surrounding neighborhoods by stocking lots of r&b dusties and jazz etc. they do have a bunch of that but maybe not enough? i dunno. i really hope that they make it. like i wrote. just above.

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

haha "smarming"

i meant "swarming" but i like "smarming" too. what do you think it could mean?

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I've still got a billion cds to give you.

-- Jeff-PTTL (jef...), November 20th, 2004.

i need to come get this shit don't i? are you around this weekend? and shit, can i copy you anything? i have a lot of uh country music and other stuff. email me.

amateur!!st, Wednesday, 24 November 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with Mandee. Adam could possible be stunning too, but all I've seen is that picture of his feet on the beach.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I am liking the look of this "Chicago" of which you speak. I think I might come visit someday. It looks a bit like Melbourne.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Kind of boring tour diary up on the Fake Fictions website.

Also, quick show of hands, who will be around Chicago this holiday weekend?

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam could possible be stunning too, but all I've seen is that picture of his feet on the beach.

Damn fine town.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! Damn Nick, which one of you guys did the website re-design? I like it.

And speaking as a man who hates to waste a good cymbal, I'm very glad Ben got his cymbals back.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't understand what's going on in this thread anymore!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Basically adam and I are fighting for mandee's affections despite both being in serious relationships, and mandee is ignoring us.

adam, you are funny.

Not really.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me of a game my sister and I used to play, where I would say "Adrienne," and she'd say "What?" and I'd say "Nevermind" and then I'd say "ADRIENNE" and she'd say "WHAT?" and I'd say "Nevermind." Repeat ad nauseum or until parents make us go to our rooms.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Why on earth would you say "Adrienne"?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't sound like much of a "game."

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

IT IS A GAME OF WITS AND SKILL.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'd stick to the music if I were you.

Some of us have talent for devising games, and some don't.

LIKE CHESS FOR SMART PEOPLE.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

We were just talking last night about how we need some board games.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i do that to my sister, still. her name is kelly. but i call her KEUHLLY. There is a distinct difference.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I kind of like that one that they sold at Starbucks, with the clay and the pictures and the trivia and the charades, but you need at least four people to play it because it requires teams.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I could remember the name of that game.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

MANDEE

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I am amazing at BALDERDASH. Do you know this game or is it English?

You get given an obscure word and everyone makes up fake deinitions for it, etc.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

its called CRANIUM NICK

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

n/a-Cranium!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, CRANIUM! It's pretty fun because it caters to different skill sets so usually the teams are pretty even.
I have played BALDERDASH but the last time I played was with my extended family and my dad got mad at my step-grandmother about something, like she couldn't remember the rules and was playing it wrong.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

fuck that shit, I wanna play MALL MADNESS.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

NEVER MIND HAHAHA

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Balderdash. I've only played it like twice, but I'm having a board game night with some girls this weekend and we're going to dash the hell out of those balders.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, so I'm not IN Chicago, but I love Chicago and there's no LA thread and anyway LA is teh suck right now, so um, can I play here, too?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate people who love scattegories.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ADAM -- yes, we have Balderdash, what do you think we are? I even played it in your fair city of Berkeley, Calif., at a nice cozy bar that had board games. I don't remember the name of it.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

luna, you are most welcome here!

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

My friend Em still has Mall Madness! It's how she met her boyfriend! (They were playing in the dorm one day and a ton of people ended up in the room to watch)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

luna i don't live in chicago, either. but oh well!!! close enough!!!

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Denver is the Chicago of the Rockies.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't live in Chicago either but I live close enough that it's at least THEORETICALLY PLAUSIBLE that I could drive down at any moment.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not in Chicago!

xpost-Sanjay, that is the ALBATROSS on SAN PABLO.

Hi jocelyn!

Albatross ... yes, that sounds familiar.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Why not join in, Amateurist? I am sure you would prove a worthy Balderdash adversary were I ever to play it with you!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man I would sign up to watch amateurist and adam play Balderdash on PAY-PER-VIEW, even if it was like $50.

Hahaha! ME TOO.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, would it be possible to have online ILX Balderdash?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

For that price we would have to throw a little wrestling or something.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think i'm ready for board games yet. that comes after sex and i've introduced you to my family etc.

I like CRANIUM. We should play that instead. You haven't lived until you've tried to guess what someone humming "Tangled Up In Blue" is failing to hum.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

KENAN, JAYMC, AMATEURST - We should get together and play CRANIUM.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I would pay to see that. Add wrestling and dancing girls and it would be the greatest show on earth. I like how although I do not live in Chicago, I post on this thread all the time. I secretly pretend I am from Illinoize. Oh wait, I am.

We should just play Twister. Same effect.

whats the weather like in chicago today?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Glad you asked. It's completely awful. It's almost cold enough to be snowing, but not quite, so it's drizzling. But it's not just drizzle, because the wind is gusting at about 45mph, so it's stinging drizzle. And the wind seems to be coming from all directions at once, and you can't predict which direction the next gust will come from, so trying to walk with an umbrella is almost impossible. It gets turned inside out every ten seconds. It really, really sucks.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not doing anything this weekend. Well, I think I'm going to Simon's on friday night, but that's about it. I"M GOING TO THE PARADE tomorrow.

The weather here is totally shitty, as kenan just described, but there's something exhilarating about it, about a gallon of frigid rain pounding you in the face like one of those needle-things that you put your hand in and you're left with an imprint of your hand made of needles.

Is myspace the new Friendster? Seriously, I have no idea what it is.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't have a friendster or myspace either.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

er, profile that is.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It tried to be the new Friendster, I think, but nobody cared enough. Actually, I think a lot of bands use it for some reason. An acquaintance of mine promised to set up a Myspace profile for Canasta -- although I'm not sure what the benefits are.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I've only added like six Friendsters in the last six months.

My friendster profile is pretty awesome. But apparently you can't just link people directly to your profile. But take my word for it, it's very witty.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, I've seen band sites there! They just like like cheap mp3.com sites crossed with livejournal.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I never had a Friendster profile.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I just added a bunch of friendsters because they made a profile for the school I went to in India and a bunch of kids that used to go there are now all signing on and finding each other, so that's kinda cool. I have 2 of the 3 other members of my first band as friendsters now!

Kenan for a second I thought you were off to go stomp on some virgins.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Saturday, 27 November 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Just to hear them crunch.

Never after Labor Day.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Saturday, 27 November 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I drank too much wine.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Saturday, 27 November 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I would kind of like to see the Gold Star Lounge on Division, but this isn't really fair since it's mainly convenient to us & Kenan but not to anyone else.
Or we could go to that Nick's place that's next to Reckless, we drank there with Kenan once and it was surprisingly pleasant. It might fill up later in the night, but we were there around 8-ish and it was pretty empty. And they have a jukebox.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 27 November 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick's is also closest to me and Kenan, but it's also near the big Damen/North/Milwaukee intersection, so easily accessible by public transport.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 27 November 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Accessibility isn't really an issue for me. Crowdedness might be. Up to you, though.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but that Nick's place can be bad. We walked by it with Jeff and Jenny one night, and there was some terrible cover band named something like "Three Old Hippies" or something, and they were three old hippies, and they were totally ruining "Rainy Night in Georgia." Sad.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Gold Star Lounge idea. Haven't been there yet.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! I didn't think Nick's was a place I wanted to go, but n/a seemed to think it was okay!

You guys need to go to the Riptide sometime! It's on Armitage/Ashland, so it's probably a little far from you. Anyway, it only gets crowded at, like, 2 am. And the woman who owns it is, like, 80 years old. And there's a weird mish-mash of various holiday (Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc.) decorations behind the bar. And it looks like it's otherwise not been renovated since 1972.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's try Gold Star, and then if that's crowded, we can always migrate to Rainbo or Lava Lounge or Club Foot.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Also: Gold Star was the site of my second FAP, ever.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait... isn't it the Lakeview Lounge that has the permanent holiday decorations? They also have three old hippies, but they're awesome, shreddin' old hippies.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

There's probably a few bars w/permanent holiday decorations. :)

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Saturday, 27 November 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

LAKEVIEW or GOLD STAR lounge? WHICH ONE?
Me, I don't particularly care.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 27 November 2004 21:27 (twenty-one years ago)

gold star is better for hanging out. lakeview is small and we'd have to contend with nightwatch, unless you want to see nightwatch again of course...

amateur!!st, Saturday, 27 November 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

and I haven't been to gold star. It sounds lovely. And as John points out, there are lots of places to crawl to in the neighborhood.

I think I'll be drinking cola tonight. No binging for me. No sir, I'm a grown-up! (A grown-up who's been drinking too much.)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, if that's alright with you guys (the 4th?). I'll be getting in about noon, and exploring on my own for a while, and then it would probably be best to meet up with you and Nick before Fappage.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, you can drop your stuff off, and our couch is pretty comfy. The cat hair provides extra insulation.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It's tasty too!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I am coming to Chicago, in three weeks. Where can I shop?

For what?

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, if you're looking for a kung fu menorah I already found one for you...

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah...kung fu menorahs, cheap suits like the kind worn by theatrical agents in 1950s movies, dusty super-8 equipment, ancient and horribly un-PC children's books, tribal indian headgear, minimal house 12 inches, that sort of thing...

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'm stumped.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

This is yet another case where my first thought was, my brother could probably help you, if he still lived here.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Please don't tell them what the "other" case was!

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread was really quiet and disappointing today.

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Revive, then!

What can I say that is Chicago related this morning? Hmmm... How about a little quote from Chevy?

"I think you're all fucked in the head. We're ten hours from the fucking fun park and you want to bail out. Well I'll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun. I'm gonna have fun and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much fucking fun we'll need plastic surgeory to remove our godamn smiles. You'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of you're assholes! I gotta be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a moose. Praise Marty Moose! Holy Shit!"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe we should try and think of something more interesting/different to do this weekend for the occasion of jocelyn-FAP '04, other than going to a bar, since that seemed to get old fast on Saturday. Like, the Millenium Park opening get-together was pretty cool for a change of pace, so perhaps something a little more cultural/unusual? Any bright ideas?

Or we could just drink.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Not drinking would be better. The city is jam-packed with amazing culture. I'm dying to go to the Art Institute again -- though that would be more of an afternoon thing, admittedly.

Bars only get old fast when you get old fast, capisce?

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

WHOAH WHOAH I'm not saying we shouldn't drink, I'm just saying we should do something different in combination with the drinking, or drink somewhere other than a bar. Too bad it's not the middle of summer or we could take a cooler of beers out to a park or something.

tell me chicagoans, what is the rent like there and/or home prices on average? contemplating a move to a new city these days...and the j.o.b market, hows it looking?

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

This is my real email address. I'm old school that way.

Jordan, the Pr1ngles Jingle is "Once you pop, you can't stop!" I don't know if it still is though. Hey, that's another thing we discussed at the last FAP - jingle writing.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

music theory, as in.. counter point, and.. chord structures?

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris V - I think the job market sucks like everywhere else, but maybe not for what you do. Rent is steep for us - twice as much as we used to pay in ol Virginny - but keep in mind we were scared away from Boston because of the high cost of living. I can't imagine it's any higher here than there.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, jocelyn, naamme. First initial, middle initial, first four letters of last name. The code name used by my college for email and whatnot, just used it for yahoo because I was used to it.

CHRIS! We pay $1000 a month for a 2-bedroom apartment in a neighborhood that is swiftly becoming more and more trendy (which has pros and cons), and I think we're paying less than most people in our immediate neighborhood. The job market here is just about the same as everywhere else in the US: pretty shitty. But it seems like you have more specialized job skills than me, so I wouldn't know about that.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

$1000 for a 2-bedroom isnt bad at all!

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Home prices in Chicago are a little on the steep side, averaging about $250,000 in the city, less in the metro area. Rent's not bad at all, especially now. Renter's market and all that. We pay $750 for one bedroom and an office near downtown. And the job market is fine -- the economy across the country isn't in such great shape, but Chicago has a lot of different industries, and the bottom is never going to fall out or anything.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Average cost for an apt in Boston/Worcester is $1000 a bedroom. My mortgage is around $800 a month. So its slightly less in Chi-town. Hmmmm, its on the consideration list. Of course, we would prefer to buy something rather than have to rent again. I'll have to look on realtor.com

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the cost of living in Chicago is about 35% above the national average -- a bargain for a city this size.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

music theory, as in.. counter point, and.. chord structures?

Wasn't I talking the other night about the function of the riff in popular music, and how it can be used within conventional pop structures? I'm serious: I don't remember much. I promise I will stay clear-headed this weekend.

Sanjay McDougal (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost: By 'Home' I think you mean condos, right Kenan?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan, the Pr1ngles Jingle is "Once you pop, you can't stop!" I don't know if it still is though. Hey, that's another thing we discussed at the last FAP - jingle writing.

I know, I was just being annoying.

A couple of my musician friends had an awesome temp job for a couple days. A cat food company had a contest where people call in and sing a jingle they made up, and the winning jingle gets used of course. My friends had to listen to all the entries and narrow it down to a shortlist. It was as hilarious as you might think.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, this is making me feel a lot better about my rent.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Or bungalows, or what have you.

xpost yeah, what was the verdict on what a riff is? is it apart from the rest of the song, or can it be the main groove that the whole song rides on?

Let's not open up that can of worms again please.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a catchy, repeated part of a tune that's not the melody, perhaps?

(x-post and I don't care!)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

But were any of the cat food jingles better than "I want chicken, I want liver...?"

No, but you're talking about all-time jingle genius.

If you're actually asking, Mandee, a riff is usually something that repeats, a lick usually doesn't repeat (just a phrase in a solo or whatever), and ditty would be the same as a tune I guess (maybe a simple tune?).

I'm such a dork.

How many times have I said I’ll be coming back to Chicago soon and then not actually done it? Many: I am poor that way. But damn, that shot way up-thread of the (Wilson?) Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh ooh... um... howard, jarvis, loyola, thorndale, granville, bryn mawr, berwyn, argyle, lawrence, wilson, sheridan, addison, belmont, fullerton, clark/division, chicago, grand, state/lake, washington, jackson, harrison, roosevely, cermack, and then a bunch of numbers.

-- Pears can just fuck right off. (fluxion2...), November 30th, 2004.

So close! Up north, I forgot Morse and transposed Thorndale and Granville, and forgot Munroe downtown. Still.

-- Pears can just fuck right off. (fluxion2...), November 30th, 2004.

you also forgot NORTH!!!!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I caught that already.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What is the finest, cheapest and most representative foodstuff to be bought in all of Chicago?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Dave Matthews' feces.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what's wrong with me.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing that wouldn't be cured by a good, friendly beating.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Lingonberry jam

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

What is that? I've heard of it.

n/a we are friends really.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I know.

The obvious answer is deep-dish pizza.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

what about hot dogs?

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I was hoping for something more exotic. The kind of thing that only an old man would eat.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Old men are such bastions of tradition!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Sausage, right?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll resist making the obvious joke.

Is chicken apple sausage a California thing?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"Chicken apples" aren't anything like "buffalo oysters," are they?

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(Cause that would be one big-ass chicken.)

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen chicken apple sausage around here but very infrequently. Maybe at Hot Doug's, the fancy-pants hot-dog stand? Actually, the first time I'd heard of it was in Kalamazoo, at the Food Dance Cafe.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Food Dance Cafe"? Jaymc, you're about the most "musical" fellow I think I've ever encountered!

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

The kind of thing that only an old man would eat.

I don't quite understand... why would you want to eat something that you wouldn't want to eat?

I picture an old Chicagoan either eating some kind of sausage every day, or a lot of his preferred ethnic food... Ukranian, ferrinstance.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Part of me is Ukraine.

why would you want to eat something that you wouldn't want to eat?

For the very same reason I read newspaper stories about awful and terrible events.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard that Saskatchewan has a sizeable Ukrainian population.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

what about onions and peppermints? old man's delight, I call it.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Huk-L a Ukraine?

that sounds nice, Mmmmmmandee.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't spell "I, Huckleberry Mann" without U-K-R-A-I-N-E.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Are those disco lyrics?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you read Everything is Illuminated, adam?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

No, what is it?

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"Are those disco lyrics?" Sort of, see Huk-L's real name is Horace, and a man named Horace once famously urged people to "Go West, Young man," then recorded by Village People. So he is actually a disco song.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What is Huk-L's real name, anyway?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

By Jonathan Safran Foer, about a young American who returns to the Ukraine to locate the shtetl where his family was from that has now been completely forgotten, wiped off the map.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, jocelyn is obviously the queen of wishful thinking.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(Nobody will get that joke.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(Unless you have the Pretty Woman soundtrack, I guess.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What is Huk-L's real name, anyway?

It is a secret because he is very famous...in Regina.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep my last name a secret because I am a household name in Kutsk.

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't "Famous in Regina" a Tom Waits song?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I get it. I used to have the Pretty Woman soundtrack on tape. I'm betting mandee did too.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What else was on it?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this a quiz?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

No! I never had it, I just remember that song. I'm guessing Roy Orbison, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Must Have Been Love-Roxette
Pretty Woman, obviously
Real Wild Child-Ric O. from the Cars

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been skating in my life. Sorry, chums.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'm done ice skating. I always say, 'No, I can't skate, it looks ridiculous' and my friends say 'oh, come on, we don't care, you can't be that bad'. And then they laugh, how they laugh.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

People falling on their ass is funny. And when you fall on your ass, you have to accept that it's funny and move on. Pride is not an issue.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus, Kenan: landing on your butt on a sheet of ice = WALKING DOWN THE STREET IN CHICAGO.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I went skiing once. It was a travesty.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i walked by the skating rink the other day, and the little kids were using these walkers on skate-thingies to keep their balance. does every skating rink have those things? ive only been ice skating a few times in my life and I always ended up falling on my head.

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

adam... (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless I'm mistaken, I think "skiing" is the only non-technical word in English that has a double I.

And Nabisco is OTM: I have a bad left ankle from spraining it on a patchy of icy grass seven years ago.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ive lived in colorado for ages and i've never been skiing!!

jill schoelen is the queen of my dreams! (Homosexual II), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I went ice skating when I was little and roller skating, but ALWAYS fell on my ass. The practice didn't help. It was always a really complicated fall too, like my legs would go different directions and I'd knock someone down. I like drinking hot chocolate though.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

It’s so easy not to ski when you live in Colorado. It helps, while growing up, that lots of the kids who ski are such pricks about it, wearing their tickets on their jackets all winter, and bragging about going to better slopes than everyone else, and just generally being run-of-the-mill teenage dickwads about what cool skiing slickos they were, like they were the pink kids in a Cherry 7-Up commercial. I only went skiing once, and it was with my mom, and it was at a place in Colorado Springs where they don’t even have real skiing, just kind of a hill. But George Bush evidently liked the place well enough to claim he stopped drinking there.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I went cross-country skiing once. It was in Austria. It was XTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Cross-country skiing *is* extreme -- extremely exhausting.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 December 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

What's a good neighborhood to go look at Christmas lights?

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Thursday, 2 December 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

nabisco, you just described my childhood. i hated those fuckwads in elementary school who had their fucking ski lift tickets on their jackets.

ha, mine too (i lived in denver for a while). i totally could have learned to ski well but i was a total wimp and was afraid of getting snow in my eyes. which is what goggles are for. but, eh, never really learned anyway.

i hope we have lots of pretty snow but not enough to fuck everything up...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 2 December 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

HEAR THAT, SNOW? DON'T FUCK IT UP.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 December 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Listen to jaymc weather gods. Because I am visiting. k thx bye.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 2 December 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

It hasn't properly snowed here yet, thanks god.

It's so very quiet on here today...

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 2 December 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been drawn to all of the contentious threads today (90s Film Poll on ILE, Manufactured Pop on ILM) like flies to a rib roast.

Oh yeah, how did I forget about that? YAY!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 2 December 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't actually serious. I mean, I'm serious that we're playing that show, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone come. It could be a train wreck, for all I know. Then again, it could be fun. Either way, we make MAD CASH.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 December 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Hi. Remember that time we went out on last Friday and got really drunk and my friend Sayjal was there (this is Jenny, by the way) and she is an improv actor and she is having a cheap show on Tuesday? Remember? Well, on Tuesday my friend Sayjal, who is an improv actor, is performing with her improv group at The Playground, starting at 8 pm, for FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS.

That's the same number in dollars as the temperature yesterday morning in degrees Fahrenheit.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, can't make it tonight.

BUT: Is anyone going to be around on Thursday night when Adam comes into town? I'm thinking we might meet up somewhere in Wicker Park, maybe, since he'll be coming from O'Hare.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

this is just to say
that my chi-town trip is off.
have fun, y'all, rock on

Haibun (Begs2Differ), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, shoot.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Sarah and I will be around on Thursday, and we live in Wicker Park.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You're kidding.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

(Actually, that was another reason I thought W.P. would be good. Should we meet for dinner somewhere around 6:30 or 7?)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm fine with tofu!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, dinner should be fine. I don't think we have any plans or anything. Oh, we should call amateurist, he wanted to hang out this week. And I need to get a haircut like tomorrow so I can look pretty for adam.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

that was another reason I thought W.P. would be good.

Do native Chicagoans call it the WP?

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I've actually briefly entertained starting that trend.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

One balmy day on Venice Beach, Spencher Chow outlined for me the differences in NorCal and SoCal argot. It is the Southern custom to put "the" in front of things, as in "the OC", "the 213", "the 5", etc. whereas people up in the Bay say only "BART", "580", and "O-Town".

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait! You think I'm trying to show off our burritos?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Heavens, no!

It's an EVIL...but potentially TASTY plot.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

FYI: Irazu is a cute Costa Rican place a couple blocks northwest of the Damen stop on the Blue Line.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds great! I haven't had a plantain in forever. Chicago neighbourhoods are quite wonderfully named.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 December 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know that I've been to Wicker Park. Will we see famous actor Josh Hartnett?

Whenever I have spent an extended period of time in Chicago, I have always just started in the Loop and walked for about 2 or 3 hours in a straight line. I once stayed in Wrigleyville but apparently I'm not supposed to like it there or something. Sarah's friend is maybe moving back there after some...relationship troubles. Last time I walked very far north from downtown until I hit an area full of treelined streets and handsome old townhouses. What was this?

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i want to see a movie

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

hello everyone. my mom's computer is crap, so i'm too frustrated to read all the posts recently...i am bad and lazy. boo me.

anyway, i'm coming to chicago on the 26th with my parents to go shopping. am undecided about whether to drive to the train station on my own so i can come back later and hang out by myself. is anyone around that evening and want to hang out?

also, we need a place for lunch that day. mom and i are both vegetarians, and we'll be getting into the loop and probably doing the terrible michigan ave, halsted by the aerosoles store and clark by chicago comics. i'd like to eat at orange, but know the queue will be huge on a sunday afternoon, and my dad will be hungry. is there anywhere people would suggest? (something medium nice would be good, since my parents are paying!)

looking forward to chicago, although this weather is freaking me out...5 degrees here, and looks like the same there. wtf?

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam: going north of downtown you first the Gold Coast and then Old Town. Both are full of handsome old townhouses and wealthy old people.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Veggie-friendly lunch ideas for Colette (in Wrigleyville/Lincoln Park):

Chicago Diner on Halsted/Roscoe (for only veggie stuff)

Several Ethiopian restaurants on Clark between Belmont and Addison (Mama Desta, Addis Abeba, Ethio Cafe) (Mama Desta prob. the best, but none are as good as the ones in Edgewater)

Hema's Kitchen at Clark and Fullerton (best Indian food I've had) (Raj Darbar at on Halsted betw. Fullerton and Diversey also good)

La Creperie at Clark and Diversey (crepes! never been there but friends report it's a good place to take parents)

North Pond in the actual park part of Lincoln Park (organic gourmet, never been there but ditto -- def. pricey, though ($$$))

Pars Cove on Diversey close to the lake (Middle Eastern, yummy pomegranate-based vegetable dish)

Toast near Halsted and Fullerton (very good but popular brunch spot, prob. no different from Orange as far as crowdedness goes)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

And I'm not sure yet whether I'll be back in town yet or not, but if I am I'm up for hanging out! We can talk about Kalamazoo!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It must have been Gold Coast.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked it! It was like walking through an F Scott Fitzgerald novel!

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm, IRAZU! I am down for IRAZU. It's BYOB. Not that that's a big deal, but we need to keep it in mind. Also it's going to be fucking cold tomorrow, and it's like a, what, 15, 20-minute walk from the El stop? But whatever, I am tough.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex in SF told me that NOBODY even dares go outside in Chicago between October and March.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Because of the dybbuk!!

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not sure what a dyubbuk is. One source says a demon, the other says the restless soul of a person who has died too early. Does it want burritos?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It is an evil Jewish inhabiting spirit.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh Jocelyn, I am emailing you now. I apologize for the delay.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I have an appointment at a SALON after work tonight. It's literally right behind my house.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooh, I like SALONs.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear, ILX is tiresome today. I think I'll just take shelter on this thread and think about cop shows.

...cop shows...

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Get on the Wire thread and talk about the first season of the Wire with me.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I am waiting for it to arrive from Netflix. I have never seen it. I don't have cable.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, Sarah and I watched the whole season in like two weeks. It's really good.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

If it is too cold tomorrow, I can also drive people. My brother MARK may be joining us, and if so, I'll need to pick him up in Logan Square.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wow, it's tomorrow, isn't it? It feels funny that I'll be in CHICAGO tomorrow. I have to wake up at some ghastly hour to drive to the airport.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Your brother is a very impressive writer, jaymc. I really like to read his blog and it reminds me of how much I don't know about art.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I know, me too!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd lik to learn more about art. Perhaps MARK can tell me.

Some ILXers have met my brother, but he doesn't know anything about art.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know why, but I always pictured you as the lonely only child of older parents, adam.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

errrr, THANKS!

No I am an older brother of one brother, Nicholas, who is 23 years old. My parents are both in their early-to-mid fifties.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish I was an only child sometimes...it looks like fun.

So I am leaving the office pretty soon, not to return for a few days. I will surely check in on ILX before I leave plus I have Jaymc's number. This is exciting!

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, yes, you've got my number, but do you know my street? And if I meet you, would you know we were meant to meet?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Are those Belle And Sebastian lyrics?

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to recall you saying that you have a buzzer on the inside of your apartment or something.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, this is Adam, by the way. Dial Rat For Terror is just a humorous Larry Cohen reference. We had a thread about him yesterday.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Junior Boys, dude.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah!

I'm sorry, I'm not very hip to young people's rock music.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

why does ilx no longer tell me which threads i've read or which ones have been posted to after i've read them?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Andrew had to disable that temporarily.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Andrew had to disable that function temporarily because it was making everything run reeeeallllly slowly yesterday.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

oh. well it sort of makes ilx too much of a pain to use...

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never even used that feature before!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it's the only way i can tell what threads i've been reading. and since i basically haven't posted to or started any new threads in a month or two....

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i'm enjoying the oral sex thread at the moment. it's a good thing i'm not working.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm at home now...and my secret santa package arrived! (I KNOW WHO YOU ARE) I haven't opened it yet...

Anyway, I just remembered one thing - if we see a "Lincoln Park Trixie", would you be so kind as to point said Trixie out for me? Great!

Jaymc, I printed out your high school journal blog and read it on the train home. Hilarious! You were like a young Capote.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 22 December 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc had a blog in high school?!?!?!?!?!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 23 December 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, he was always so ahead of the curve!

No, this is the next best thing! I'd link it but I don't want to get in trouble - you can get to it through his regular blog.

Also...does that mean that Oops knows all of these people (in Jaymc's high school blog)?

It's hard to tell if you were are ironist or not in your formative years, Jaymc. Some of your footnotes suggest that you yourself aren't even sure how sincere most of this is (?). I especially like the part about the Jewish girl, but I guess I would.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 December 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm most curious about this part - (if I may)

" But of course, good Genevieve Webs+er was also accounted for, and she is a sparkling conversationalist, as we chatted about movies and other such things. I really like that girl, to be sure. I honestly do. I was staring at her tonight and thikning she looked like child actress Christina Ricci, but maybe just because of the forehead. Otherwise, she looks like a bat. That's what Adam says, and I agree. I thought Tatyana M. Ali on last night's "Fresh Prince" looked rather Christina Ricci-esque. Genevieve, now at least she's white."

Read by Peter O'Toole.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 December 2004 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i really miss having the gall and inspiration to write down my impressions (however nasty) of everyone i knew.... i mean, by no means do i want to be 16 again, but there are certain things i'd be too selfconscious to do now that might be worth doing.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

absolutely.

Dial Rat For Terror (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 December 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the "now at least she's white" part means "hey isn't it crazy that I thought this black actress resembled Christina Ricci -- it's sort of crazy that my friend Genevieve looks like C. Ricci, too, but it least it makes more sense, since she's white."

As for the looking-like-a-bat, my friend Adam would always come up with different animals that people we knew resembled. Some would be oddly specific, like "snow owl." Perhaps a future footnote will explain this.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, this is weird: today, someone at the GiantRobot.com forum started a thread about my high school blog. I have no idea who it is; I only found out through my referrals.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

WOOO ADAM AND BURRITOS IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 December 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i'll be there too!

*everyone frowns, decides to stay home*

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 23 December 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Friday, 24 December 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

teeny (teeny), Friday, 24 December 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Last night was fun, you guys. Adam is safe in Indiana now and I am eating snacks at my parents' house.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 December 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

does anyone know the name of that shoe store on that star shaped corner of, um, damen/milwaukee/something else? its right by an el-stop, not far from mod, and right by that concert venue place. they had a pair of shoes i really liked that were like $375 at the time, and thinking that the other stuff there was on the affordable side, that maybe no one bought them and my size is left and it'll be on crazy sale for my sister to get for me.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 24 December 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Fluevog?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

no, thats not it. i think it was right on the corner and had two entrances. one on the diagonal street, and one on the north/south street, and they connected.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

City Soles?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I'm pretty sure that's it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ah yes, thats it. looked up city soles in the phonebook, called, and they have the shoes left and theyre on sale. yay! but the sales guy has to call me back because hes with a customer. i hope theyre like 75% off.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

That's City Soles alright. Every pair of shoes I own is from there. They're overfashionable: they keep these showy Italian numbers in for like a month, and nobody buys them, and so every now and then it's just Ridiculous Sale Time over there, where you hem and haw for ten seconds and soon enough they're like "fine, we'll give you all three pairs for $100, just take the damn things." I've never once bought a single pair of shoes there -- always two or three at a time.

Former ILXor Tiiiiiim (aka Optimus Primate) used to work there!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i saw these awesome black leather costume national half-shoe/half-boot things there in early october for $375, but they were sitting there all alone on the shelf like "oh look, amidst all the kenneth cole and sauconys, we have BIG TIME EUROPEAN LABELS TOO OH YES!". but i didnt buy them because even though they were really really hot, it didnt like their usual clientele would be that interested in them, or its price. so yay, i hope they have my size.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i actually should go back to chicago in january. my parents were upset that i didn't come home for the holidays. maybe if i wait until then, the shoes will be even cheaper. anyone know of anything fun happenning in january to schedule my visit around? some big concert or party or something?

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 24 December 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

are you in kansas city?

No, a place in Central Kansas called Lincoln. One of the hundreds of tiny farming towns out here. Kansas City would be a dream compared to this. We went to the mall yesterday, which is 45 minutes away, a center of activity, and more depressing than any mall I've ever been into. Hot tip: stay away from Sam Goody. Far away.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Friday, 24 December 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

My kingdom for a Virgin Megastore!

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Friday, 24 December 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"virgin megastore" sounds like one of those faux-english names you'd find in a non-anglophone country, doesn't it? like a sex shop on the rue st denis...

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Friday, 24 December 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 25 December 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

jaymc-how was Paprikash? I am taking my mom to Chicago on the 28 & 29th and really want to take her there. But if it was rubbish we won't go.
I hope there are pictures from adam and Mrs. adam's visit. (hint)
