Do ya? Do ya? Eh eh? Does it look Christmassy? Yeah? Is it falling right this second? God, I'm like a puppy! I'm gonna pee with excitement!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Blimey, is it a year since last year's "Snow Patrol" thread?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:51 (twenty years ago)

There is snow. And ice. A little bit ago, the sun came out and shined down on this big woody lot across the street, all the frozen trees looked like diamonds in the sunlight.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:53 (twenty years ago)

It snowed last night, it didn't stick too much, but there are little spots of snow here and there, especially on top of parked cars.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:54 (twenty years ago)

We have no snow, and I bet we don't get teh snow till April.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:55 (twenty years ago)

No, that was sarted Jan 27th this year...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:57 (twenty years ago)

My sister had snow in dallas yesterday! Two days after telling me how mild it was, and a day after she was standing next to her friend's swimming pool in just a t-shirt!

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:58 (twenty years ago)

We only have rain here! boo for rain!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 23 December 2004 15:59 (twenty years ago)

We are forecast snow for tomorrow and saturday "With possibility of severe disruption" Yay!

Rumpty Pum pum pum, Thursday, 23 December 2004 16:06 (twenty years ago)

no snow in st louis but boy is it cold! my building's fire alarm went off last night (we have a lot of false alarms, I dunno what's up) and sent us all out at 3 in the morning. :(

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:03 (twenty years ago)

Has it ever. TONS of snow. Woohoo.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:05 (twenty years ago)

It snowed last night, it didn't stick too much, but there are little spots of snow here and there, especially on top of parked cars.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:17 (twenty years ago)

No. We had a tiny bit of snow and then it RAINED and now it's all gone. It's okay, doesn't feel like Christmas in my house anyway.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 23 December 2004 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Tons of snow? We have some snow covered in gross crusty freezing rain.
Last night when it was just snow it was lovely but now with the rain it's all ruined!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Thursday, 23 December 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago)

No snow here, either, but ridiculously cold. It was 12 degrees when I got up this morning. Fortunately, I've been shopping out here in farming and hunting country, and these are the warmest clothes I've ever owned. This zipper hoodie is warmer than most coats -- ferreal.

Kenan, Thursday, 23 December 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

No snow.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:09 (twenty years ago)

Sun.

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 23 December 2004 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Not snowing now but we got 14" between Tuesday morning and this morning. Of course my snow blower picked today to take a vacation day. By the time I beat it into submission I'd already given up and shoveled most of it.

Jeff Wright (JeffW1858), Friday, 24 December 2004 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Yes, yes, yes, yes... but now it's pouring sideways outside. We're all gonna die.

jim wentworth (wench), Friday, 24 December 2004 02:25 (twenty years ago)

We got about two inches yesterday in the EDT. You can still see bits of white here and there. still cold as a witch's tit though.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 24 December 2004 02:37 (twenty years ago)

wasn't that snowy when i went to sleep last night, woke up to an eastern michigan arctic pleasureland. had to shovel my car out of the driveway to get out. grandma had drifts of up to 16 inches. over here in kalamazoo not as much snow, but a load now.

very white, very pretty, although a little unfun to drive in.

wish it'd warm up, though. hear it's supposed to be 8 tomorrow. boo.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 24 December 2004 02:45 (twenty years ago)

no. it's currently about 32 degrees celsius here. forecast maximum for tomorrow 35 degrees. mmmmmm roast turkey in sweltering heat, my favourite

gem (trisk), Friday, 24 December 2004 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Big time snow and freezing rain. Yay.

cybele (cybele), Friday, 24 December 2004 05:01 (twenty years ago)

It's freezing cold here. Almost unseasonably so, actually; I think at this time of year, our highs are usually in the 50s, with nighttime lows (that sounds redundant, hm) in the 30s. But we've actually been stuck with highs in the 30s for the past few days, which is odd, though very conducive to drinking lots and lots of yummy, rich, and SO not-good-for-you mocha. Oh, and dragging out the sweaters I purchased back in mid September, not really expecting to use them until maybe mid-January or so, and actually USING them this early in the season is pretty good. Though I kinda wish I owned a pair of gloves.

I've heard about the snow in Dallas! Oh man. And the Hill Country area is expected to get a bit of accumulation either tonight or tomorrow night as well. I don't know if we ourselves are expecting any snow flurries in the next 24 - 36 hours, but if we do get a little sprinkling of the white stuff, I will be quite pleasantly surprised.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 24 December 2004 07:14 (twenty years ago)

The raindrops are getting gloopy in Glasgow. It will snow soon.
Try Glasgow snow.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 24 December 2004 12:12 (twenty years ago)

Was much snowy-er here two days ago...
Now it's getting sorta warmer, and the rather moderate remnants of snow left on the ground stoically do their damnedest best to cling to their dregs of respectability. Or samthung.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 24 December 2004 13:19 (twenty years ago)

NO SNOW! And it's VERMONT. Where the hell is my "white christmas"?

It was -10F Monday and +55F yesterday. I hate this state sometimes...

jay blanchard (jay blanchard), Friday, 24 December 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

North Troy has a little, but not enough to go around after that stupid rain on Thursday. Otherwise I'd send ya some, Jay. But you're welcome to stop by and try to negotiate my driveway without landing on yer ass.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 25 December 2004 03:19 (twenty years ago)

I saw on the 10 p.m. news that LAREDO and certain parts of the area south and east of the city were receiving accumulations of up to 3". DUDE, GUYS, LAREDO GOT SNOW. The little kids there will SO be talking about this event for YEARS on end.

We just got tons and tons of icy cold weather. Well, "icy cold", really -- a lot of you would consider it super-warm weather, but you have to remember that we were still wearing short-sleeved tops at the beginning of December. By the middle of next week, though, we'll be back in the 60s. No wonder so many of us suffer from colds and coughs.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 25 December 2004 08:53 (twenty years ago)

No snow, but the sky at night is fantastic.

youn, Saturday, 25 December 2004 09:35 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Holy shit I've just looked outside at 6AM and it's snowing in north London.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Of course, by the time I woke up again at 10AM it had all fucking gone, hadn't it?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

There was, I'm told, several flakes of snow in North Hull at lunchtime. Of course, I saw none of it, as I was stuck in East Hull all day.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
More snow!

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 21 February 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

We had snow at about 3am. Then it turned to rain. Blech.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:08 (twenty years ago)

We're due for approx five inches of snow this evening (overnight) here in NYC...tho' it is supposed to turn to rain by morning. (boo hiss)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

do you think you could use "snow turned to rain" as a metaphor for something or other?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

We've got the 5 inches already, and the (freezing) rain is
a- startin'.
Forget my uzi, this snow weighs a ton!

peepee (peepee), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

take my wife, please!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

against all odds, I've never been in a rainier location than Los Angeles the past six weeks.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

I just got in & it's snowing like a mudderfugger out there right now.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:48 (twenty years ago)

I haven't seen bare ground around here since before Christmas. But then I live next door to a major ski area. Yesterday and today were perfect winter out-door days.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 21 February 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

I had three plates of Chinese food, and then I attempted to shovel. Boy, was I voice-boxin'!

peepee (peepee), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Well yeah. Flapjacks. Now there's shovelin' food.

jim wentworth (wench), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

it is STICKING

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 21 February 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

It snows here in Hokkaido every day. Every single blizzarding day. This is the whitest winter they've had in twenty years. But on Wednesday I fly to Tokyo, where the weather forecast tells me it's going to be 15 centigrade (60 farenheit). Something weird is going on with the weather, and I blame President Bush.

Momus (Momus), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

WHOOOO SNOW
i like it when it sticks in people's hair for a while after they go inside

lemin (lemin), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:42 (twenty years ago)

get one hat.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 21 February 2005 05:54 (twenty years ago)

We had a lot of snow (for here) yesterday - a couple of inches or so. By afternoon it was sleeting, and although more snow fell overnight, it's now all patchy and half-melted.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 21 February 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

There were a few flakes in the air in SW London yesterday afternoon and this morning, but blink and you'd miss them.

However, rain/snow showers are forecast here for today and tomorrow, and Thursday has rain/snow (proper!) listed. Here's hoping!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 21 February 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

It's pissing down snow here right now, but it's not sticking. I haven't seen a decent shower of snow like this in Dublin for quite some time. It's amazing how quiet and serene it seems to become when it snows.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 21 February 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

It was snowing on Saturday. I got home and the Welshman had the bloody back door open as well, letting the snow into the kitchen! Madness!

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Monday, 21 February 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

wow, nothing as yet but checked our internal weather report here at the enviro agency and we're forcast loads and loads and loads.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 21 February 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Ah shite, it's stopped already. How disappointing.

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Monday, 21 February 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Heavy snow for half an hour or so this morning, but it's all melted again now.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 21 February 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

we have snow here too.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 21 February 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

Sleety slow in London West 1!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

snowed for 30 seconds on warren street and around.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

It's bloody stopped again

beanz (beanz), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

It was most definitely snowing in Leeds today. It's not any more, though.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 21 February 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

We had a bit just here, but since it was bouncing on the pavements, I count it as hail (there may be a more technical distinction, but that'll do for me). Not much, not for long.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Has it settled in London at all this winter? I can't remember.

beanz (beanz), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

it seems to snowing whenever i step out. and then stop as soon as i get indoors.. :(

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

no yet, but forecast in next two days.

i am currently sat in an FREEZING house as the man who came to look at the damp bits in the kitchen that the man who came to put the new units in found proscribed (prescribed?) "leaving the windows open to get rid of the condensation". i'm starting to think that he was TAKING THE FUCKING PISS...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Blimey, I hope there's no snow in France this week...

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I hope there is loads of snow in Stockholm this weekend. How likely is that?

alix (alix), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

I just checked the weather predictions and there is snow due in Paris tomorrow. :-(

Doesn't get sunny again until the day we leave. Poo. (What is French for bah, humbug?)

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Monday, 21 February 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I am bloody freezing too. I didn't realise until today that the radiator in my office doesn't bloody work, and the vital valves are hidden away behind a big, heavy, full-up shelf unit.

(until now the computers in my office have been enough to keep it toasty, but today is just too cold)

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

kate, i believe the word "bof" will cover most situations.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 21 February 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

it's snowing. My kitty is clawing the back of the chair becuse he wants to go out, but when i open the door he changes his tiny pea brained mind. Five inches now. maybe I don't have to go to work. Let's hope and pray.

aimurchie, Monday, 21 February 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Heavy snow in NW5!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

also now snowing in N15, big clumpy flakes. person two doors down has washing on the line...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Haha steve, my ex-landlord also told us to 'just leave our bathroom windows open all the time' when we complained about mouldering. It was January. Useless fuck.

Now I am in an even colder house and although I don't have windows to open in the bathroom, I have no form of heating either. Feel a bit like a mushroom in a dark underground cave.

We just had a snow flurry here, accompanied by many wimpy staff going 'ooh we might have to go home' and my German coworker laffing her head off.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

SNOOOOOOOOW over Bloomsbury. Yay! Oh wait, that means the buses won't go up Archway Rd in case they slide back down again. Bugger.

BIG fluffy flakes, and there are loads of them. I'm starting to get dubious about my chances of getting home.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

WUSS! In Dusseldorf they'd be improvising snow shoes out of old magazines and rolling around naked in the bracing air. (This is the kind of thing I have been listening to all day.)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

South Bank getting a good dusting. Good job I have a polar explorer's beard at the moment.

lock robster (robster), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

Haha. I will construct a sled from paperclips and old x-ray packets and harness pigeons to take me home.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

ffs there's nothing but clear sunny skies here. no snow for us today.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

it was snowing really hard for 5 minutes but now it's all gone

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Nothing but flurries down here in Epsom. Sky's the colour of lead though, looks like a snow sky...

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

against all odds, I've never been in a rainier location than Los Angeles the past six weeks.

Let me second that -- this whole weekend's been a near nonstop rainfest. I love it, though, it's a holiday weekend and it's been a great excuse to do next to nothing but relax at home, read books, listen to music, write etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

it's clear sky now, the whole cloud fell down in 5 minutes

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

WOW¬!!!!

No sooner did I say that than it started snowing like Vermont in January! Wow!

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

the sky is a really pretty pastel blue/purple colour now. i really wish i brought my camera with me this morning.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

It is fucking TORRENTING outside now! This is quite lovely, except I have to head out in about an hour.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Plus iTunes is playing me 'Kiss From A Rose'. This really is just about perfect.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Very snowy here now even by the German's standards. I fear for my impractical NEW SHOES :/

Archel (Archel), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

I thought I was going to be in trouble getting home but it only lasted about half an hour up in EN1. Of course if it's still snowing in London proper I might have difficulties getting up Muswell Hill... had to walk it last year which sucked big time.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 21 February 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

A heavy shower has appeared, just before I have to drive home. Grr.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 21 February 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

wind chill factor

jel -- (jel), Monday, 21 February 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Treacherous going in Streatham this morning, but once you get into London proper it's all turning into rain.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

Local weather update:

At 3 p.m this afternoon (local time, i.e. GMT -6 hours), the temperature outside was 81 degrees F (or roughly 27 degrees C). The sun was shining. The skies were partly cloudy. The air was rather humid. Everyone was walking around with short sleeved shirts and blouses and sunglasses.

I would be happier if we had actually had some winter before all of this.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

You can have ours if you want. Fancy a swap?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 22 February 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

YES PLEASE!! Please please pretty please! I've got lovely jackets and coats that are crying out to be used. You can have the open windows and swirling ceiling fans. :)

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Woo snow! It was all pretty and swirling in the wind last night, and the cars along our street were begging to be denuded of their snow-toupees this morning for a snowball fite on the way to the bus-stop.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

It won't stop! Argh! Knowing the British rail system this means my train to Paris will be infinitely delayed by SNOW ON THE TRACKS or something.

That said, it was very pretty looking out of my window this morning.

Kate Kept Me Alive! (kate), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

The trains are only stopped by The Wrong Type Of Snow ie the type that falls from the sky.

lock robster (robster), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

more clear sunny skies here, my area is gloriously known for never getting any snow though.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

This is like the most disappointing snow ever. It's like emo snow, it just melts into puddles. :(

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Arrggh the snow's been really annoying. Every single time I go outside it starts, and then it stops as soon as I'm undercover or indoors...

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

'If You're Going To San Francisco' probably wasn't written with snowfall in mind, but my word does it ever go together.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

It's very snowy in Edinburgh right now.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

yes

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

I had to drive (to work) in thick falling snow for the first time today.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Awwww, it's pretty. We've to miss the best (worst) of it though, the west of scotland. The weather report last night said Glasgow was to be the coldest place in Britain today.

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm snowed in today! Unbelievable.

The main roads are okay apparently, but I have to drive up a hill to get out of my village, and it's too icy so nobody can get out. Abandoned cars all over the place! I'm home again drinking coffee now, and plan to meet up with all my neighbours in the village pub for lunch! This beats working!

C J (C J), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

It snowed last night on the east coast of Ireland. The trains are all running hours late and the main road into Dublin from where I live is "treacherous" and gardai are advising people not to travel. Bloody suits me, I can tell you.

The dog's loving it, though. He was out in the back garden at seven this morning, eating the snow and rolling in it. Aww. Cute.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Wow, you two are sooo lucky! Knowing my luck I'll get snowed INTO work. Where do you live CJ?

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Your problem, rumpy, is that you guys are too used to snow and therefore your entire infrastructure does not grind to a halt under half an inch of the stuff the way ours does in the Dublin area. I remember years ago, when I was in college, there was a bloke from Glasgow in one of my history tutorials. One day in March, when it snowed about two inches, he got up and walked into college and was surprised to find the roads silent and college all closed up. He couldn't believe that that was all it took to shut the whole city down.

Seriously, if you ever want to loot the whole of Dublin, just wait for it to snow. No-one will answer the alarms.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Attention Londoners! You are of course aware what's going to happen if this snow continues until, oooh, about 11.30 tomorrow night, aren't you?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

One of my coworkers just walked to work in the snow (about 5 miles) due to lack of buses. It's his *birthday*. Now that sort of dedication is why he's deputy head of the department and I'm at the reception desk.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

I haven't seen enough snow in my lifetime. I'm coming to Dublin next wednesday - hopefully it will still be snowing there!

I couldn't walk to work in the snow - I lack suitable footwear and I'm not risking frostbite....

Rumpy Pumpkin, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Snow is still weak here. Anyway, off to the wilds of the west.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

Yeh finally! It's chucking down with snow

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Where are you, Ste? Nothing here (Soho) but a few desultory flakes earlier.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

well it's stopped already and a blast of sun has destroyed any evidence there might have been.

(i'm in warrington)

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Oxford is SO COLD right now, ugh. Snowing this morning but now just grim, spring plz already!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

its snowed in massachusetts for a month straight. we have 95 inches of snow.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

it's just so blinking windy at the moment that the snow clouds don't have time to stop and deliver a decent load.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

that seems to be the problem with me getting my wife pregnant too.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

i just said "we need a snow day up in this bitch" out loud. it did not go down well.

NRQ, Wednesday, 23 February 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

I am so so glad I am nowhere near MA until july. What is y'all's summer like?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

I wish I lived in MA, that sounds ace.

The weather seems to be drawing in. What God of snow did I offend, why won't you let it snow properly?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

summers are hot as fuck. basically weather in new england blows donkey cock. but the autumns are pretty.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Essentially, I feel lied to and cheated.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 24 February 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

There's a blue sky with white cumulus outside: so I was slightly surprised when snowflakes started drifting past my window two minutes ago.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 27 February 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Our heating has just gone on the blink, and our landlord has gone AWOL. I hate this fucking country sometimes.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 27 February 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

it's snowing! again. just when i was saying that I had to go out for a bit.

It's snowed pretty much every single time I've had to go outside in the last 7 days. and then when I'm indoors it stops

jellybean (jellybean), Monday, 28 February 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

It's snowing like crazy here, but none of it is sticking. That's okay -- it's supposed to keep snowing for, like, days. Sooner or later it'll start to pile up.

Fish fingers all in a line (kenan), Monday, 28 February 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Plenty of snow in Stockholm.

alix (alix), Monday, 28 February 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

A significant weather event in Massachusetts. Not a Blizzard - Not yet a Nor'easter.
As they say - March is in like a lion and out like a lamb!
In New England we like to say "if you don't like the weather, don't worry. It will change."
I should pull myself up by the bootsraps so I can shovel and scrape.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

It's coming down hard right now. I can't see the CN Tower *at all* from the window of my apartment. That's my "bigass snowstorm" litmus test.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

i went a bit snowblind in Sweden. scandtastic.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

I got half way up the road in three inch heels this morning before it started to snow like a bastard. Grrr.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

snow all over the place. and i don't have to go anywhere today! go me.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

March, you tease. I hate you and your snow and ice and snow polishers that make me fall on the sidewalk with my skirt over my head.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

It's raining.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

Totally snowing! People outside my window are shovelling it/playing in it, with their dogs even. In like a freakin' lion excellence in Mtl.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I saw a couple flakes about an hour ago.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Nice little two-hour fluffy flurry has just landed in NW3, following Suzy and I in Hampstead Tescos last night scoffing mirthfully at the "BIG FREEZE TOMORROW" headline on the front of the Eveny Stannit, but alas is now turning into boring rain.

(obv for any poor sod having to haul their way into work from Ashford or Maidstone or similar it wouldn't have been classified as "nice")

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 4 March 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

CHAOS AS BRIEF FLURRIES ENGULF SOUTH

Sven Bastard (blueski), Friday, 4 March 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

Looks pretty though. When I got up it was coming down in beautiful great chunks and looked like it was never going to stop. So I go back 15 mins later and not a flake is falling. DAMN YOU, GOD

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 4 March 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

Fairly good dusting in SE19 (but nothing like Monday and Friday of last week) but I'm awaiting email from the missus to confirm it's disappearing in slushy misery.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 4 March 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

It was snowing beautifully and distracting me all through a meeting this morning, then when I crossed the square again it was slushy and brown. Bah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 4 March 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

oh fuck it's all sunny. it was snowing heavily in my enz earlier.

NRQ, Friday, 4 March 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Just had a thunderstorm OVER my flat (lightning strike - count the seconds - one - oh!) and massive amounts of hail which was building up a ledge of ice on the kitchen sill. Not as good as snow, but extreme to the maxx weather always welcome.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 4 March 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

It was beautiful walking to work in the snow this morning (with umbrella up - haterz). I whistled and sang "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam", and got to hear that lovely crispy crunching sound that fresh snow makes. I opened the blinds fully at work, and watched the snow for a while and listened to Slowdive. I was happy, the world was a good place, I had some sort of snow rapture.

Then it melted, and everything was just okay again.

(you may interpret this is a contrary in-character jel post, but it's not)

jel -- (jel), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Its seems like we're getting dnow every couple of weeks in New York. Every time, the local news is like "THE BLIZZARD OF '05" "Please people! The police are advising everyone to STAY HOME!!" and everyone larfs and pushes one another into drifts

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Today it started out raining, then we had snow, and by the time I left work the sky was blue. The sidewalks, and some of the streets, were slushy, with a slippery sort of slush. In the parking lot across from my building, there is this very peculiar design--I don't remember ever seeing anything quite like this before. There are very well-defined rectangles where cars were parked earlier, and then around them there are these shiny patches of ice, where the slush froze.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

I know it doesn't sound that unusual, but there was something about the consistency of the snow today and the way it melted into a thin, but textured, layer of ice, that is making this look atypical.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

I am missing seeing my adorable and very new girlfriend thanks to the snow :(

donut debonair (donut), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

It's so cold in Chicago you'd fuck your sister to stay warm.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

THAT'S COLD.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

teh snow knocked out the traffic lights in my neighborhood! fun! the wind almost blew me down a flight of stairs! fun!

Allyzay Dallas Multi-Pass (allyzay), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 04:51 (twenty years ago)

I hate this weather.
SO MUCH.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 05:58 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
I'm sorry, but I'm VERY excited.

Who here likes driving in the snow? I know most people hate it but my partner and I both love it. We love the challenge, the country roads, and the peace and quiet of the roads when everybody else is huddled up at home.

And driving in the snow at night is like flying through space!

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 18 January 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

you have snow right now?

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

Aren't you already supposed to have snow up there at the moment?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 09:50 (eighteen years ago)

It was snowing in the centre of Edinburgh when i came in about 20 minutes ago but seems to have reverted back to rain.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 18 January 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

No, we're about toi have a storm here.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Thursday, 18 January 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

It's heavy here, some roads have been closed and there's been a few accidents already.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 18 January 2007 10:16 (eighteen years ago)

HOW EXCITING ACCIDENTS!!! THE SMALL PLEASURES IN LIFE OOOOOH

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 January 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

I know we had some last year righht before my daughter was born. I was waggling in the snow then.

Hey, I'm just reporting what's happening....

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 18 January 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

i fucking hate snow.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

"Informer" was a pretty bad record, it has to be said.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

I don't disagree with that.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

We've been iced in in Texas for a few days; today is the first day since Monday that I'm reporting in to work and the first time since the time I came home that afternoon that I'm actually leaving the house. If this kind of unusual weather pattern had hit the Northeast all the national news media would've been all over that story, but nooooo, those punk-assed fuckers buried that story and dedicated maybe three whole minutes to it. Shitheads. Anyway, off to work now.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

God, I miss snow. Maybe I should move to Scotland or something.

The Long Grey And Overcast Tea Time Of The Soul (kate), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

Dee, when I was in the States over Xmas the fact it was cold in Texas was all over the news! Well, the Weather Channel news, anyway.

You're feisty today btw :)

=== temporary username === (Mark C), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:54 (eighteen years ago)

i never see snow where i live anymore, and it saddens me. This year i've even yet to see any ice.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

It's snowing again but the ground's too wet for it to lie on. I don't mind fresh powdery snow but hate when it turns to slush or solid ice.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 18 January 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

This has been the warmest winter I can remember in Finland. There's been a few occasions when it has snowed, but the snow has melted away in a couple of days. There's still some green grass on the ground, and some plants have started to bloom, thinking it's spring already. Freaky!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 January 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

There's allegedly a cold snap on its way here at the beginning of next week but I'm sceptical about whether this will yield much more than occasional sleet in London, as per last winter.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

marcello, i now have that song stuck in my head. grr.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 18 January 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry Simon, not intended!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 18 January 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)

I think Informer's great.

chap (chap), Thursday, 18 January 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

like Dee this is my first time out of the house since Sat. I think. (except for a dog walk.) I cracked my ID scraping an inch of ice off the car this morning!

personally I don't care if the national news talks about Texas. Secede!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

We've had it in portland for 2-3 days now. Tuesday shut down most of the city, and caused me to take 2 hours to get to work. Yesterday was a snow day for plenty of people, but it seems to be meltings by today.

all over the place Monday,
I don't even mind

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah two day work week here. Haiku, you should have heard our news lady earlier this week telling viewers that "hats and gloves help keep in body heat."

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yes, the Texas ice scraper! I saw a woman using a small hairbrush to crack the ice. Last time we were in NY I went to the supermarket and bought out their whole collection of scrapers. These were presented as gifts to bemused Texan friends, but I'll bet they were happy to have them yesterday!

The ice is dropping of the magnolia leaves and making quite a racket.

patita (patita), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

wtf @ people carrying umbrellas when it snows

mookieproof, Monday, 19 January 2009 22:14 (sixteen years ago)

I have a flight that's been eaten by the snow. The incoming aircraft can't take off from EWR, so we're stuck at the moment. Crap.

lyra, Monday, 19 January 2009 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

We have snow, but it's turning to rain now. Bah.

ailsa, Monday, 19 January 2009 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

Can I note that I STILL am waiting for an airplane? I love trying to fly into the NYC area in crappy weather.

lyra, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

We had teeny, tiny flurries last week. This week it's going to be in the 60. Such bullshit. The only thing that has stuck this year is ice.

we're supposed to get snow in NC tonight, to which I must say, "fuck this"

J0hn D., Tuesday, 20 January 2009 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

toasty warm (relative) in MN, big puffy silly snow. i support this recent turn of events.

non-ironic safety helmet wearer (John Justen), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 04:01 (sixteen years ago)

Well, my supposed arrival time yesterday was 6 PM, actual arrival time was 1 PM. EWR was hopping when we finally got off the plane, tons of people coming in late. The drive home in the snow was pretty at least.

How is the snow in NC? Did you get a few inches?

lyra, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

Make that "actual arrival time was 1 AM". :P
