I should start work on my photoblog idea anyway. Seeing as moomoomus can do them anyone can. Mine is going to be about East St Kilda and why I love living here, and my concerns that it might be starting to veer dangerously in the St Kilda direction (not literally, that would make a big mess with all those flats and trams piled on top of each other).

I want to document it all before it goes naff.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, there's not a bad one yet, but a lot of too-trendy cafes have started appearing and the booootiful people seem to love hanging there on weekends with their bloody dogs.

Luckily though, a lot of old Jewish families run stuff round these parts so I doubt it'll ever totally go crap.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 24 January 2005 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I do some serious work and come back and what do I see? Idle chit chat! Not a word of serious discussion about crunk.

Saw Dogs In Space last night. Interesting... a period piece, one might say. I enjoyed it. It was not perfect, but I enjoyed the way it captured that era, which it did very well. In my opinion.

thee music mole, Monday, 24 January 2005 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yes party. big, with lots of beer and stuff. i plan to be a dribbling wreck by the end of the evening.

my girlfriend would like to know what crunk is. she thinks it's a stupid genre name..

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Monday, 24 January 2005 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought crunk was some kind of drug.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 24 January 2005 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

gem (trisk), Monday, 24 January 2005 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Gem, the lead woman in that movie was Saskia Post. I think she married, then divorced, Tim Finn. I was also wondering what happened to Nique Needles, whose character I most related to, hahaha.

Must be a secret, like the Bohemian Grove or something.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 24 January 2005 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing is, you hear about this new and amazing thing coming out of London/UK - and you finally get to hear it - and it turns out to be a rather predictable amalgam of recent UK and USA sounds. They draw their influences from nowhere else.

Mark my words - in three years, they'll be raving about Australian Heavy Silicon and Melbourne Woo Music and it'll be OVER by then.

haitch™, and gaz (probably), please tell us about your crunk. Describe it in mongelfuxor so we can grasp it.

thee music mole, Monday, 24 January 2005 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

...I live just off Bridge Road!

Crunk is...really loud and obnoxious hip-hop with very little rapping. What rapping there is consists of pretty mysoginistic 'bounce on my cock bitch bitch bitch' crap.

Grime is...the white kids who got beat up at school getting some laptops and trying their hand at real rough and tough 'life on the streets' shit, artfully sprinkled with the 'glitch' function on their mixer. Sounds like leftover garage or two-step reheated in the microwave and sprinkled with crap cocaine bought from the dodgy bloke in the pub.

What do you do when you hear a mate has been up to some truly pathetic crap but you've been sworn to secrecy?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

TELL EVERYONE!

But seriously, what kind of stuff? If you're not specific and don't mention names, then it's not giving away the secret is it?

papa november (papa november), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, Trayce, I was in East St.Kilda the other day and hell, it has already all beautiful people and dudes with mullets.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmm.....so who swore you to secrecy? Him or one of your mutual friends with whom he had been inappropriate?

Also, as soon as you tell me to drop it I will.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah.

They're pulling a bit of a sad tortured artist schtick as well, which drives me IIIIINSSAAAANE.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I tried that. It kind of gets old real quick. I can see how it would get annoying in others.

Are they using the sad tortured artist act as an excuse for the inappropriate behaviour?

papa november (papa november), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 24 January 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, I'm not knocking Balaclava, I'm lamenting the swarms of foreign hordes overtaking your once idyllic suburb. Also, I keep lapsing into American, due to the g'friend.

Trayce, if you've seen Gangs of New York, I see Adam more as Bill the Butcher, carrying a cleaver and marshalling a gang of elderly jewish business men and young IT workers behind him.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, that's fair enough then. :)

Although some of the horde members are HOT. You could sit on Carlisle St and do scores out of ten.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

True, but it's a bit run-down. Needs some cleaning up.

Speaking of which, have you seen Frankston recently?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Which way's it gone?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Up. The main drag's all cleaned up, the shopping centre bits are tidier and brighter looking, and there's a new foreshore and pier development. It's all part of a very deliberate move to make Frankston a cosmopolitan seaside city.

Yeah, how are your feet lately?

Did they get better and then worse or they never got better at all?

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Not better at all. At the moment it's looking suspiciously like tarsal tunnel. I haven't done cardio in about three months, and getting around almost exclusively in thongs.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

And now that the valerian's kicked in, I'm going to bed. Night.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Goodnight.

I hope by thongs you mean on your feet and not your botbot.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT'S what I done wrong.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Drunk people singing happy birthday? Nah I didnt - but then again, by midnight I think I was in bed, and had taken half a mersyndol so I was probably out of it.

God it is fucking HOT today! I have the blinds shut and the fan on and yet it is still icky. I ain't leaving the house for nobody.

Mind you if it gets stormy later I might see if anyone wants to go to Pause for a drink. If it'll be open. Which it probably wont be.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Come to think of it maybe if I wasnt wearing jeans I wounldnt be quite so hot. Duhuhhr.

I so don't want to put on clothes today...but the cupboard is bare!

I am excited! On Friday I am given my very own homegroup at school to mould and twist into my inhuman vision of perfection. Yar har har har.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

what is a homegroup and how do you mould it?

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

a collection of students whom report to me every morning to be read announcments and talked to and have their homework diaries checked and be pastorally cared for and stuff like that,

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

'pastorally cared for'?

thee music mole, Wednesday, 26 January 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Basically making sure that they're happy and dealing with school and home life, making sure they're not at risk of drugs, depression, that kind of stuff.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 January 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't sleep a wink last night and some cunt just rang me and woke me up. Didn't even leave a message.

I kind of feel like my arms and legs are moving ten seconds behind when my brain is telling them to.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 27 January 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I slept last night but only because I'd had half a dozen UDLs. I wasnot hot yesterday but only because we went to Geelong. DON'T ASK WHY WE WENT TO GEELONG.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 January 2005 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

So, Adam, why did you go to I'll get me coat.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 January 2005 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to sleep through the night. but for the last few years i've been waking up with increasing regularity. its up to 5 times a night minimum

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wtf... I just popped out onto the balcony for a breather (it is stifling and humid in here) and it is really cool outside! Stupid double brick building.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, we had nothing else to do, and we hadn't been to Geelong in omg like forever. It's the weirdest place ever. It's all seasidey and carnivally and clean and lovely, but there's these massive giant fucking refineries all along the coastline which make the whole place look putrid, and factories are right through the entire place. It reminded me of Brazil, which by the way is $10 now.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I love flying in over the sewage farms. Great from the air, all different shades of putrid. The collective turds of so many people.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually don't mind Geelong, truth be told. The main street is done up rather nice nowdays and there are some rather pricey fancy old homes along the beachfrontal sort of area. I'm more partial to Torquay tho.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Those oilr refineries look GREAT at night tho, all those weird lights and strange chrome pipes all over the place and the flares going woosh.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I read some huge thing about how they refine oil the other day. It's pretty interesting that they can so many different products from what is essentially the one thing.

papa november (papa november), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

...and you guessed it boys and girls. The missing word in that last sentence is produce.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

are you talking about patrick smith adam? i don't care a jot about sport in general or leyton hewitt specifically, but smith's columns are seriously freaking me out at the moment by their inexplicable vitriol. is hewitt really such a terrible sport?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, no, it's a continuation of a discussion about hating hate in the Aus Open thread.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

And Hewitt's not a terrible sport at all. He gets excited on the court, but there's a hell of a lot of psychology going on there. Once he steps off he's very gracious and complimentary of other players.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 January 2005 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh dinner. I have chicken breasts and veggies, and I'm trying to think of some interesting meal involving said chicken. Perhaps marinating it in soy, honey and garlic and frying it up, then slicing it over some rice with some someting something. I dunno. My head hurts.

Oooh I hear thunder.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep forgetting I have new ones now my eyes have adjusted finally, so I got up and looked in the mirror and went WOAH this morning.

God, its even hotter today than yesterday, horrible. Nick is home and so he's playing Jak on the PS2 and I'm going to spend all day doing washing and housework... such is a womans lot.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Somehow I'm supposed to fit my weight training, gym and cleaning my sisters house in what remains of the day. I'm not entirely sure how I can.

papa november (papa november), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Jak is shit.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. It seems ok so far, though it is a weird amalgam of Zelda and GTA.. Nick said "this game reeks of being designed by comittee". Still, the music is nice.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 January 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh its Jak 2 if that means anything.

Also, wtf is up andrew's arse? He had a go at me on the tattoo thread and I dont know why, I don't like being mocked for something I take quite seriously. Grrr.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 January 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew? Dunno.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 28 January 2005 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

In the studio with Rachael yesterday:

Me: It's great, see, this is the kind of music that they should be playing in clubs.

Rachael: Yes, and it'd be a club with only one person in it: Colin. Because your idea of a great club is where everyone's dancing to music that sounds exactly like Judas Priest only electronic, and no-one in the world wants that but you. And why would you know anyway, because you NEVER GO TO CLUBS and you NEVER GO OUT and you NEVER DANCE. So, good luck with that one.

thee music mole, Friday, 28 January 2005 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The joke's on Rachael, papa n, because she's not only right, she is unable to do anything about it cos she loves me so hahaha

thee music mole, Friday, 28 January 2005 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

thee music mole, Friday, 28 January 2005 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

papa november (papa november), Friday, 28 January 2005 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you should see me now with my fully fledged Chopper moustache.

Dad (posh English accent): Colin, no doubt you have allowed for this contingency, but you are of course aware that there are many homophobic gangs of youths in the western subsurbs, with baseball bats, who maraud the city looking for homosexuals to beat up, and you run the risk of falling foul of such a gang.

thee music mole, Friday, 28 January 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Voiceover: It’s morning in Islington. Like many denizens of this typical suburban English town, William Bennet is preparing for work. But this is no ordinary kind of job for which he’s preparing. For William Bennet is a member of the controversial English noise band, Whitehouse.

(Suddenly Bennet cuts himself on the cheek)

I may get to WEILD ONE SWORD at a friend's wedding in a couple of months!

Fortunately it's more of a medieval affair, not a Masters Of The Universe theme.

I kneeled on a coffee plunger that I didn't realise was under me and it broke, scattering glass everywhere. A piece when into my knee, another into my calf. The one in the calf cut through fat into flesh, so after freaking out and losing a bit of blood I was convinced to go to hospital where I got six stitches.

Ow. Ow. Itch. Ow.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 31 January 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

haitch, man? (haitch), Monday, 31 January 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's Cait's version. It's a lot better and a lot more accurate.

You may've read about how Mikey cut himself today. Now here's MY version of the story.

I was awoken by Mikey staggering in a bedroom with a towel wrapped around his leg going, "Aaah! Aaaaah! Aaaah! Aaaah!"

Me: "What's wrong?"
Mikey: "Oh, um...AAAAH! Nothing, I just - AGH - cut my leg and - AUGH - spilled some coffee AAAAAGH but don't worry, I'llcleanitupI'llcleanitup!"
Me: "Wait, what? What? How did you cut your leg?"
Mikey: "Don't worry about it! AAAGH!"
Me: "Mikey. How did you cut your leg?"
Mikey: "I knelt on my coffee plunger."
Me: "Oh FUCK. Go wash it off. I'll clean this up."
Mikey: "No! Go back to bed! I'll clean it up! I made the mess AAAGH!"
Me: "GET IN THE FUCKING SHOWER AND WASH YOUR CUT GODDAMMIT."
Mikey: "Okay. Aagh."

Ten seconds later, in the bathroom.

Me: "Let me look at it."
Mikey: "It's fine, really. Ow. Ow. Ow."
Me: "Shit, that is a deep cut."
Mikey: "No, it'll be okay."
Me: "Mikey, I can see the fat and flesh beneath your skin. That's not right."
Mikey: "It'll be okay, really."
Me: "We have to get you to a hospital."
Mikey: "NO NO NO. NO HOSPITAL AAAAGH."
Me: "I think we should."
Mikey: "NO! NO! I DON'T WANT TO GO THE HOSPITAL NOOOO AAAAUGH OWWWWW OWWWW!"
Me: "Oh Jesus. All right, keep washing it. I'll call your parents."

Mikey's parents are not home.

Me: "Okay, I'll call my mom and Remar." (Who are both nurses.)

Mom and Remar are not at home.

Me: "Mikey, seriously. You need to go the hospital."
Mikey: "I don't want to go the hospital! AAAUGH NO HOSPITAL SERIOUSLY I'LL BE FINE I'LL BE FINE AAAAUGH I DON'T WANT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL! THE BLEEDING HAS STOPPED, SEE? AAAAUGH OW I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL!"
Me: "Okay, you know what? FINE. But at least let me put some hydrogen peroxide on it."
Mikey: "Hmm. That didn't even hurt. I didn't feel anything."
Me: "Really?"
Mikey: "The bottom of my leg kind of feels numb."
Me: "YOU ARE GOING TO THE FUCKING HOSPITAL."
Mikey: "NOOOOOOO!"

I call Epworth's ER.

Me: "Hi, my boyfriend has a pretty bad cut on his leg, and we're trying to figure out if he should come in or not."
Nurse: "Well, I'm not looking at it so I really have no idea." (Okay, you know what? Unnecessarily bitchy. I've hung out in enough ERs and seen my mom in action enough to know that what they're SUPPOSED to say is, 'What does it look like/how big is it/is it bleeding/where is it/how does it feel, etc.')
Me: "Well, look, he cut himself on a big piece of glass. The wound is about half an inch long, but it's the depth that worries me. I can see flesh and fat. It's stopped bleeding, but the cut's just under his knee and the rest of his leg below that is starting to go numb."
Nurse: "Oh. Come on down!"

I hang up.

Me: "Mikey, they said you need to go the hospital. Go the hospital."
Mikey: "I'M NOT GOING TO GO THE HOSPITAL AAAUGHHH OW OW OW NOOOOO!"
Me: "Okay, you know what? Fine. Don't go to the hospital. We only have these little bandaids to put on it. I guess we'll have to use a few."
Mikey: "WHAT? NO! I HAVE TO GO THE HOSPITAL! I NEED TO GO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW!"
Me: "Okay, well, I can't drive you and I don't feel comfortable with you walking. Let's call you a cab."
Mikey: "NO. I WILL WALK. I'M GOING TO THE HOSPITAL."
Me: "You cut your leg. You shouldn't be walking there. I'll call you a cab."
Mikey: "NO, I'M FINE! I SWEAR! I'M FINE! I'M GOING TO WALK. LOOK AT ME, I AM GETTING DRESSED AND BRUSHING MY TEETH."
Me: "Okay, well, do you want me to throw on some clothes and go down with you, or shower and dress and then meet you there?"
Mikey: "Whatever you want, I'll be fine."
Me: "Mikey, seriously. Do you want me to walk down with you or meet you there?"
Mikey: "Whatever you want to do. I'm fine. Really."
Me: "ARRRGH fine."

20 minutes later, I walk to Epworth (which is about a three-minute walk away from our place, thank goodness) and find Mikey already done and about to pay his bill.

Me: "Are you okay?"
Mikey: "I have stitches!"
Me: "Phew. Did they say if there was any nerve damage?"
Mikey: "They put anesthetic in me!"
Me: "Are you okay? Can you walk just yet, or do you need to sit down?"
Mikey: "Let's go home, I'm fine."
Me: "Okay."

On the walk home.

Mikey: "You know, I don't think I really had to go in. I think I could've taken care of it myself without going to the hospital."
Me: "Really? Is that what they said?"
Mikey: "Oh no! They said I really should've come in, so it was good that I did."
Me: "DUHHHHHH."

My GOD. The poor baby. If I didn't live with him, he'd probably be huddled in the fetal position in the courtyard, trying to entice the neighborhood cat to lick his wound. Now I am not letting him move. I am one Nurse Ratchet motherfucker.

Thanks to Mikey, though, I am developing an encylopedic knowledge of how to remove various stains from carpet. So far, I've had to combat balsamic vinegar, risotto, spaghetti sauce, raspberry Icy Pole, lime Icy Pole, sweet chilli sauce, and now the two big bads, coffee and blood. And I am kicking their ASSES.

It stings a little and feels very weird.

Ohhhhh. No Kate, I'm just throwing it in like a meme/catchphrase type thing. It's going nowhere.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

He's not invisible.

Dennis's mate Freddy the magpie (trayce), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think that Dennis is a positive influence on you, if he's going to play tricks on you.

Fun Fact: Kate Langbrek was one of the writers for The Bob Morrison Show.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah not really. I just think I should've studied something boring like english or maths (ha as if) Because there isn't as much call for teachers in Art and Social Studies and I'm not sure and cannot get a straight answer regarding tranferring to the Victorian Education Dept.

Good news is I got my GPA right up last semester after getting a slew of distinctions and high distinctions (amazing what a stress free semester can do for your grades), however I dunno if this is enough to help me beat out the competition for jobs.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What kind of work are you looking at?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Secondary teaching.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you kidding me? We love SOSE teachers down here.

Kate, I've told you, you can talk to me if you wanna know about the Victorian education malarkey. We'll get you hooked up with a decent state school.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I always see you on AIM and freak out that I'm just annoying you by asking yet again about the education dept down there.

Up here no jobs for art or sose teachers much.

papa november (papa november), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It feels like schools are opening up again after the Kennett years.

Hahah, get fucked, like I'm doing anything important when I'm on AIM. Fire away. If I can yammer on to Dan for hours, you sure as hell can ask me anything the hell you want.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sose?

And yeah Bidness is right, Bracks has put metrick fuckloads of people back on. The contract I'm in line for is with a government department tha I believe has just increased in size due to all the new committees or whatnot.

Yeah, whole bunch of friends sucked up by the public service. I'm in the private system, but it's not hard to get a job teaching in Victoria. In fact, pick the right school and it compares very well with the private sector.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

there should be a department for getting SOUSED, I could teach that.

haitch, man? (haitch), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

papa november (papa november), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, Adam, please become an IT teacher. I wanna see you unleash the fury.

Kate, what? Is the VIT dicking you around? Hmm, next time you're down here, front the hell up. They'll have to deal with you then, the lazy bastards. It can't be that hard to switch, surely.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to teach oldies how to use PCs or something, that'd be kinda laid back and fun(ny).

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No internet y'see?

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that I want to divert the thread loads or anything, but see how they're posing? They did it like that because it'd take ages for the print to form on the negative, and they'd have to stay perfectly still the whole time. Hence the 'pose'. Right, so what shits the living fuck out of me is the way people STILL stare and grin for photos. SMILING FOR PHOTOS IS INSIPID. We don't ever stand and grin inanely UNLESS SOMEONE IS TAKING A PHOTO. Because, you know, when I'm dead and people look back at my life they'll only ever remember me staring at a camera grinning like an idiot BECAUSE THAT'S ALL I EVER DID MY WHOLE ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE. Fuck.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

So you can understand how much it pisses me off when someone (a) wants to get me in some photo; (b) demands I stand still and grin at the camera like a moron; (c) whinges because I'm not grinning properly. Conversely when I take photos of people CANDIDLY BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY DO THEIR WHOLE LIFE THEY'RE BEING CANDID, they crack the shits and go 'no no I'm not ready wait for me to pose'. FUCK.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You're right. Apparently the first photograph ever took 7 hours or something to expose. It was made with bitumen. Think of that next time you drive on a road :)

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam that is so true. I love taking candid shots, they can often come out so beautifully, capturing someone's true thoughts and expressions. Poses are crud. Some people get all hoity about their privacy though, so I try to show the pic to the person after and ask if they think its ok (thank you, digital cameras).

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

They sell them at the NGV. Pricey though.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahh! Awesome. So... what's it doing exactly?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Over a period of 2.5 seconds it takes 4 shots, although you can get ones now that take 9 over 2.5 seconds.

Apparently they were invented in russia or something in the 80's but they kind of faded away. Now a bunch of people have kind of revived the medium.

The advantage?

Hmmm....yeah I guess the movement, and because the cameras are pretty primitive, they give nice soft edges, faded looking colours and soft blurriness, which I think can be kind of cool.

oh, that was directed at mikey, sorry.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a freakin' American.

Jeezus.

Calm the fuck down.

Um, I found WDT in a book store here! It came out in the seventies, was a bit of a hipster tome for a while.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Calm the fuck down.

I AM CALM.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

See that looks shit because I can't make it bigger.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry guys, I've had like seven cups of coffee today because I couldn't sleep last night because of Bastard Leg.

YOU'VE NEVER SEEN ME VERY UPSET.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

How is bastard leg then? Apart from being full of caffeine now of course.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, alright. Not as bad, we went to town with pouring Hydrogen Peroxide on it last night, because it was looking red and angry and it ached through the night, but it seems a lot better today. Got a bit of a limp though, hope that clears.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

you poor thing michael. just the thought of a shard of glass going into my knee sends shivers up my spine. *shudders*

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

So did it sever anything vital? Like the thing that holds your muscles together?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

It definitely went deep into the muscle. They thought there might have been some malarkey with the ...sci-at-ic? nerve running down the side of my leg, but fortunately it looks okay. My shin feels a little numb though, so it might have sliced through a smaller nerve.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

So you were like the dummy out of mythbusters last night?

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry guys, I've had like seven cups of coffee today because I couldn't sleep last night because of Bastard Leg.

What did you make the coffee in?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha good question Adam!

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps he has gone for instant - cheap and nasty BUT unlikely to sever you!

haitch, man? (haitch), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

BUT cheap and nasty.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

do you value coffee higher than LIMBS?

haitch, man? (haitch), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

No, but I value LIMBS higher than INSTANT.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:58 (twenty-one years ago)

At school, office has plunger.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Do try not to kneel on it this time Mikey dear.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Why am I still here? At work, I mean. I mean, I know why I'm here, but I feel like shit and I should be enjoying my evening, not here planning lessons after everyone has gone.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

So it's not really possible to be slack about lsson plans?

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

They're kinda necessary for the first year or so. I want to keep on top of my workload, though, so a proper lesson plan cuts down on the time I waste and gives me more time when I need it the most.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah i guess, i mean, i want to be a good teacher. I could tell which teachers were slack when i was at high school. It really showed. I wanted to become a teacher because of slack teachers like that.

papa november (papa november), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, you're fucking over the kids and looking really professional if you're not putting in a couple of hours a week preparation.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

UNPROFESSIONAL.

...but shit, it's not like you have to write multiple pages for each class.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, see we don't start learning about lesson plans til this semester, so I have no idea what that aspect is all about. All i've learnt is curriculum...and how to make pretty pictures.

It has rained for about 12 hours now! Loudly!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I love rain, but only when I can stay home. I wonder what it's going to be like living and working in a city where it rains lots.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i am attempting to motivate my staff by playing them the thompson twins

I can spot at least three things wrong with that strategy

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, is it sick when I hear the Thompson Twins I think of Vice City and automotive homicide on a grand scale.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to say, if i were being forced to listen to the thompson twins, I would turn it off at the first opportunity too.

Hey dudes, sorry for bringing things down earlier... been hanging out with Dom all day (b's hubby, my best mate) because she needed to be alone, we just shopped and hung out talking. Weird day, the sky is crying or something. Whys it so cold!? ITS SUMMER HELLO.

It was an unexpected death it seems yeah - he had some problem with a bone fragment in his neck causing massive pain, and last night he took his usual painkillers and his daughter found him on the same couch in the morning passed away. She's just started yr 12. Good lord. :(

you can't really tell, but they sort of have purple and silver in them as well as red! they're awesome. which is lucky because he put me through the torturous eye drop test and then proceeded to tell me i'm now shortsighted as well as longsighted and need multifocals again which i HATE.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

oooh wow, they're kind of spiffy.

I had a pair like that, but I've donated them to my best friend cause she wants to be my twin haha! (not in a million years does this girl want to be my twin).

Mind you my latest pair are not unlike that as well.

kate/papa november (papa november), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

no! that sounds like some fresh kind of hell to look forward to though!

he put eye drops in to make them relax, which made my pupils go huge and everything blurry for about 3 hours. and it looked like i was e-ing off my tits. fortunately by some quirk of errr luck i did have to have a photo for a uni thing at lunchtime, so i'll be soooo glad to have that saved for posterity.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce I'd suggest we do the coffee thing today but I don't think my car would physically get that far.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyone wanna give me a heads up on what's so special about the underwear thread? I'm in a W zone, where I can't look at anything that is NSF.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, its a load of actual ILXors in their actual undies. Most people provided links, some just went right on and put up their pics, but it is pretyt nsfw I suppose.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I went past the local footy oval this morning on the bus, and the creek next to it had risen to the point where it was nearly going to spill over and flood it.

They had the sprinklers on.

haitch, man? (haitch), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Goodness! I'll have to go be turned on/nauseated/aroused/disgusted later on.

Tell me, do most bare the white, pale skin of those who fear the sun?

Three sets of lights were out in Richmond today.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

mikey: the luna picture is a rear view. in her bra and pants. small pants. tight. she is leaning forward. i don't think i dare look at it again.

bulbs (bulbs), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Its very um... porny. In a good way.

Adam: could meet today maybe, though I slept like shit last night so I'm pretty out of it. Maybe... I dunno.. gee I'm decisive.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

it's GONE.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

We can make it tomorrow/next week if you like. I'm indifferent.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh me too. We're a pair. God I'm lazy.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, people must be able to smell the coming of spring over in England and the US, getting all frisky like.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Honestly I don't want to leave the flat again today. It's a bloody mess out there. Took me more than half an hour to get here from Malvern this morning.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

And yeah, you might want another day or two or recover after the events of yesterday...

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh? Oh you mean the bad news... it hasnt directly affected me, but yeah, I feel kinda odd and hermity today nontheless.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

hey Crankypants, I have the day off tomorrow. You wanna hook up? (I can give you the $ I owe you for that Goodies ticket, too.)

haitch, man? (haitch), Thursday, 3 February 2005 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Agh sorry. Imagine City Road, but full of water. Failing that, go to nova100.com.au and click on the Hughesy/Kate/Dave link, then the flood pics link.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Daamn, Yarra flood its banks?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I think so.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope I can get home ok today, the eastern was pretty clear heading out, but I can see SES trucks and workmen slowing traffic as they clean up Hoddle Street in my future.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Hah aw sorry - but thanks Kate! That was nice :)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if Nick got to work ok? He just trotted off towards Carlton on a tram as usual, we had no idea things got that bad (there was no flooding round our way, I dont think). Would he have got stuck going up Dandy/St Kilda rd/Swanson/Lygon st?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

On a tram? Yeah, because there were no trams.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

How far are you from Dandenong Road, Trayce?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Trayce, I figure if you can't see photos of your own city in wrack and ruin, what kind of a world are we living in?

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

bloody hell!

bulbs (bulbs), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce says:

PlayfulPuppy says:
Tram, but apparently one of the lines broke.
PlayfulPuppy says:
Near Flinders St. We had to go REALLY slowly over it.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

my train had stacks more people on it than usual

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Lines down everywhere, and some depots were flooded out. A tree fell on an actual train too, out Ringwood way somewhere.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah Nick is funny.

Trayce says:

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, trains were delayed waaay back from Ringwood today.

Oh, Trayce, I'm not that far from you d00ds now.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Home or work?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Where I live.

I work in Croydon Hills, a forty minute drive down the Eastern.

I'm just off the Punt/Bridge Road corner now. I got a mate that lives down Dandenong Road, surprised at how close it is.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah. Yeah, 10-minute drive off-peak.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody nice drive to and from work too, lots of verdant fields, mooing cows if I go the back way, then a quick as hell trip down the Eastern.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Croydon Hills? Yeah, if you keep going you end up in the Black Spur. What's 'the back way' for you?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Once I get to Blackburn Road, I go through Templestowe, back through Warrandyte, North Ringwood, Warranwood and then I'm in Croydon Hills.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Lovely. There's some great national park in that area.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Kinglake National Park if I go in one direction, Toolangi State Forest in another... I learnt to drive in Toolangi, it was awesome.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I didnt realise you were just off Punt rd Mikey. Cool! Still close enough to drive down for a Pause FAP ;P ;P

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It's starting to rain again.

I wonder if Curry's is flooded again. About eight months ago they had to put a new floor in because of the rains then.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 3 February 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Curry's? What's that?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Curry's Family Hotel. It's a good pub.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh oh... the cold air's come back and it has started raining again...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, hell, we should FAP soon.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

It's probably worse now because last night's rain is going out to the ocean that way.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:02 (twenty-one years ago)

you'll have to swim to an fap. you could have a wet tshirt photo in the undies thread.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps there should be a wet t-shirt thread.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, a wet tshirt pic now theres an id....no shut up trayce.

xpost dunno mikey. Southbank looks bad but all the main rd bridges are pretty high up.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I just showed that Southbank pic to my Year 8's, they freakin' loved it.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy fucking shit. Talk about post-apocalyptic. Unfortunately, not in the Mad Max way. I like the way that the two seagulls are the only visible living things.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, yeah, total 28 Days Later vibe.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, a photo montage of today's damage with a soundtrack of Ending (An Ascent) by Brian Eno would be kinda cool.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah that poor lonely seagull. jonathon livingston! also because of the blue sky, it doesn't seem right that it is flooded at all.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I just love the booth "ferry and cruise tickets" in the middle of the freakin water, haha!

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

For non-Melbourne people, those booths are actually down a few feet from the proper pavement bit, which is normally maybe 1-2 feet above the water level. The fact that they're flooded, AND the proper pavement bit is also flooded, indicates just how high the Yarra is now, i.e. by about 2-3 metres.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

We're doomed!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i'm familiar with that bit of melbs. although i probably wouldn't have recognised where it is except for that first pic you posted adam. we never get proper floods here, i can't even imagine what that looks like in real life.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I'd suggest we have a drink this weekend, but goddamn, we'd have to strike full sail on a tall ship to cross the raging river.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Hur hur hur, like I'd cross the river anyway.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Too CONTEMPORARY for you on this side.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm scared of fauxhawks and two hundred dollar t-shirts. East St Kilda might be lovely, but I don't want to have to pass through the badlands to get there.

Haha, no, I adore St Kilda, I'm just being faecetious.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, no, not St Kilda. Gugh. Go via Williams Road and avoid all posing.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

No, like, yeah, I like you area. Fuck Acland Street!

I saw some dickhead in a 'PRAHRAN ' t-shirt the other day. Luckily I was driving, elsewise I would have left from the car and rent him asunder.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 05:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 05:06 (twenty-one years ago)

What have you got now, red onions?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

you don't even have to go to the gym. i have good abs from doing ashtanga yoga.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Abs is easy. I've been doing 200 swiss-ball crunches three times a week for just over a month, and already I've got a serious six-pack forming. All I have to do is lose the weight and they'll be visible.

xpost and yeah, ashtanga yoga will work toning wonders if it's your thing.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends how out of shape he is I guess.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. Abs is 90% weight control and 10% actual exercise. Loads of people have abs obscured by a layer of fat.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate the gym, i flatly refuse to go there. i love yoga though, i go every day at the moment. i'm developing buff as fuck arm muscles too.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I do all my weight training at home now. Just gym for cardio.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to buy some weights.

The great thing about me is that I shed weight incredibly easy.

After last year's bouts with illness, I wised up, changed diet and exercised move. I lost five kilos, and moving out has lost me another five. I'm down two shirt sizes.

I need to start training soon for a school survival camp I go on every year. I need to build upper body strength for rafting. That will have the added benefit of tightening the abs and turning me into an adonis.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a Yoga place on Bridge Road, I might check it out,

you have to pick and choose the style of yoga you do according to what you want out of it i think mikey. you want one with a fair amount of movement to get toning benefits from it.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You were a gothy ladyboy Mikey? phwor. Dont tell Cait I said that she'll kill me! :/

I think the only way I was able to get fit was without trying, ie my first job which was in a mail room and involved loads of lifting very heavy bags all day long. I got pretty fit from that and was 45kg, though I was skinny anyway back then.

I dunno I hit 30 and blam the metabolism went spastic. Also, I drink too much. And I can see gravity getting to my face now, I'm getting a slight jowl. It sucks.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't drink anymore. I had an accident with the most part of a bottle of vodka and my liver gave me hell for weeks afterwards.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, well one of my students' grandmother is a bit of a guru (badum-TISH) when it comes to Yoga, so I'll have a word with her.

Only then can I join the ILX nudefest. Though, totally, that thing/thread is gonna end in tears.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine does all the time :/ Ive been medically told to lay off the shit (booze and paracetamol are a deadly combo, Im sure you all know mu story now), but still it persists. I'm a pisces, addictive personality and all that. My liver is ok but showing signs of excess protein... I had ultrasounds last year, I have liver function tests, and I'm still in the land of the living.... sometimes I wonder how long I'll last tho.

My that was cheery, sorry :/

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i had to stop too, my liver wasn't tops, it was actually my behaviour that was giving me gyp. one too many regrettable incidents after toppling headfirst into a bottle of vodka too.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nudefest bah. I reveal far less in normal bathers. BFW.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You'll be right, Trayce, as long as you do the right thing and listen to your doc. They usually have your best interests at heart.

I think my body issues are a big turning 25 thing. I dunno, yeah, just seems like a big thing.

Oh yeah Trayce, I had like, sparkly green hair down to my ears, was slender, actually had cheekbones. I spent a lot of time in Germany and came back with an all-black wardrobe. Haha, I miss my EINSTEURZENDE NEUBAUTEN t-shirt,

Adam, when you let enough pale internet types to see each other nekkers, they go crazy. I've seen it happen a number of times.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Thats because we're all horny shut-ins.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I gotta wonder about some of the brits. The yanks are all 'YEAH, ASS AND TITTIES, WEE, ROCK AND ROLL' though.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, when you let enough pale internet types to see each other nekkers, they go crazy.

Yeah probably, that's why mine's deliberately small and sterile. I don't see anyone going crazy over that. :)

I wasn't going to post in there at the start, but I put an incredible amount of effort in at the gym, and if I can't be proud of it [not that I'm up-myself obv], why the fuck am I bothering??

OMG PARANOIMIA ON 3RRR

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dude, yeah, you're fuckin' ripped, you should be proud, flaunt it.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah definitely you should be proud adam, your body looks tops, flaunt away i say.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

What they said, dont get weirded out or nothing but damn you have a fine bod =)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

See, it's that kind of motivation that makes it all worth it. Thanks yu0se.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

See, this is why I'm gonna try the Adam plan.

Are they any special dietary thingies you adhere to?

How much cardio, how much weights?

Already compiling a 'Physical Perfection Playlist', which is equally parts Drum 'N' Bass and Dead Can Dance.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you take any supplements Adam?

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

What do y'all like to work out to?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

well i don't work out, but i do run a couple of times a week. and i like all kinds of stuff to run to but i reckon daft punk is especially good, dunno why. anything with a good beat is alright though.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually like film scores. Anything inspirational and orchestral. I also use a lot of Underworld and similar techno.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah underworld is great! that's a good one. yeah most techno is good for running too.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

drum and bass, although I can't drive to it, i think i'd end up wrapped around a pole.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Are they any special dietary thingies you adhere to?

Not in a big way, no. With snacking, I have bananas, carrots, almonds around all the time, and I'm eating less at dinner and grazing throughout the day. Also I tend to have baked beans for lunch on gym days [morning]. I'm no diet expert, but this rough pattern has actually lost me a few kilos since January last year.

How much cardio, how much weights?

No cardio currently because my feet are fucked [which is why I'm not losing the fat]. Weights, currently I'm averaging 55kg for pec and chest press machines, ~40kg [2x20kg] for free-weight bench press and slightly higeher for bi/tricep, ~65kg for leg curl and ext machines, and the 200 ball crunches [100 straight, 2x50 knee-to-elbow]. Again I'm far from an expert at this stuff, and I've still got a hell of a long way to go before I'll be satisfied.

Do you take any supplements Adam?

Just protein powder, but that's so muscle doesn't drain me when it demands protein. :) I'm not into things like creatine; apart from being slightly artificial and a bit scary, I don't want to come out looking like He-Man innit.

What do y'all like to work out to?

Mine ranges from Fatboy Slim and Prodigy to TISM. Basically anything with energy and a good consistent beat that sustains me. I tried Wings once, BIG mistake.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ultimately the most important thing is to keep it up, and realise that you're going to see fuck-all results for probably six months or more. You'll feel it but you won't see it.

Before I started in January last year I took a few photos of my flabby fat pale shithouse body, and exactly a year later I took new pics and compared them. THAT'S when I shat myself and went a bit mental. Then I wore a pair of shorts that were too small a year ago, and they FELL OFF IN THE STREET.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm on redbak whey protein powder. It's made in Australia which is good, but it tastes like ass. I tried to act like a tuff with the muscle-bound supplement guy by saying I didn't need the girly soy-based powder, but I kind of wish I had now.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditch that donkey whey yo. Musashi chocolate protein powder is awesome, AND Australian, AND it actually mixes properly. Last week I bought this other one [WPL or something] that refuses to mix. I have to chew the bastard.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to finish the big barrel of it first, but yeah...I'll have to try the musashi one next.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. Should I go the supplements...

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Only go the supplements if you physically need them. Otherwise it'll be excess energy and go straight to your gut.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't even look at supplements for about the first six months.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Just as I thought. It's gonna be juice, water and nuts and vegetables for quite a while.

Guys, you watching Lost?

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, just started here. Hardcore!

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, my personal trainer has me on 'em.

I alternate days between cardio and weight training. Fridays are my day off.

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahah, it gets waaay better.

Ah, the weekend come, the weekend come...

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

kate/papa november (papa november), Thursday, 3 February 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 3 February 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, my personal trainer has me on 'em.

Which supplements?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 3 February 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Friday, 4 February 2005 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

actually it was a rhetorical question with an answer of 'no' but oh well

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 4 February 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the one thing I'm dreading about teaching. I can never have a guilt-free sick day ever again. I'm actually...wait for it...going to have to be really terribly sick to justify taking a day off.

We don't argue. Occasionally we have disagreements, and they're quiet [i.e. never shouting &c.], and they don't last long. We've never ever had a 'FUCK YU0 I'M LEAVING' event [I had literally thousands with my parents in my adolescence].

Hayden, today's not going to happen. Going tonight?

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 4 February 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

kate/papa november (papa november), Friday, 4 February 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to speak up in those situations, until i realised how much i hate confrontation and conflict. so now i just say at the start 'i can't agree with what you are saying, but i don't want to argue about it, so can we please talk about something else?' it works for us.

otherwise i wouldn't be able to stick hanging out with my family, who i do love even though we disagree about lots of things.

gem (trisk), Friday, 4 February 2005 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds like a good plan. These days I just sit there with a stoney expression on my face, but they already think I'm a bossy, pants wearing bitch...so I'm not sure whether it's pointed enough.

kate/papa november (papa november), Friday, 4 February 2005 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 4 February 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

what's a westie gaz?

xpost maybe it goes in phases... i did the stoney expression thing for a while after i stopped the 'going blue in the face with arguments' approach. then i took to leaping up and doing the dishes so i wouldn't have to be a part of the conversation. and i think now i'm in the final stage. they get to express their opinion (briefly), i get to say i think it's wrong, but there is no shouting. it always used to turn into the same argument anyway.

gem (trisk), Friday, 4 February 2005 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)
