Mourinho was clearly making a 'ssssssh' gesture right in front of the Liverpool fans after the equaliser. He was also getting a bit lairy with Jamie Carragher earlier on.

Yeah, I got really into it during extra time (I had been watching the Celtic game in the house, and ran across the road to the pub when I realised the Carling Cup game was going into extra time), and I actually wanted Liverpool to score, just to make for extra excitement - this was without seeing the whole game, which I wish I had.

I'm not sure I like the roof on the Millenium Stadium, cup finals should be played outdoors (I had this grumble at the FA Cup final a couple of years back) but fireworks = cool

Jerzy Dudek fumbling the ball = comedy GOLD. Like Roy Carroll and Rab Douglas with added clumsiness.

That was fantastic. Two of my most-loved friends are Arsenal fans, but I was thrilled at Wigan winning it, with an ex-Bristol Rovers star scoring the 120th minute winner! So if Man U win tomorrow, Wigan are all but guaranteed a place in Europe.

xpost to Martin re UEFA Cup - unfortunately not. Only the winners can go into Europe via the Carling Cup - if the Mancs win and gain a European place from their league position, then the extra spot goes to the Premiership.

I think this was a condition of England retaining its (unique) UEFA Cup place for the Carling Cup.

(see 2000/01, where Liverpool beat Birmingham in the final, but as Lpool got a Champions League spot, Ipswich qualified for the UEFA Cup in 5th place in the Premiership.)

ANYWAY - one of the most gratifying pub moments of my life occurred today. Absolute cockfarmer of an Arsenal fan behind us all game, real smug and abusive sort, massive chip on shoulder. He was standing with his girlfiend, being a real nasty sort - when JT went down, he shouted very loudly 'hope you never get back up, you racist cunt'. Which, considering there was a Chelsea supporting couple with two young children right next to him wasn't really on.

So then, the big fite at the end kicked off, as soon as he saw Lampard's involvement shouted 'stick it up your arse you fat cunt' so loudly everyone else could hear. Girlfriend looked at him, slapped him round the face REALLY HARD, and said "I can't be with someone like this, it's over", then walked out.

Strangely, he stood there, staring at the screen, for another couple of minutes, before storming out after Adebayor was sent off. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Either way, hilarious.

I don't think there's anyone who watched who can claim Spurs didn't deserve that. Also, eight goals past Arsenal and Chelsea in one competition is a nice little detail. I would happily stick with a manager who won us a cup a season, fuck the Champions League.

That was a dreadful game of football. We gave the ball to Spurs, they kicked it into touch. That said, Spurs totally deserved to win, but I really wish I hadn't been there to see it.

that was a much, much better performance than i had expected. happy enough with that, i think most of our players played well above their norms. lennon's continued improvement is really unexpected and a total bonus.

Otherwise, meh. This whole game really brought the whole Spurs problem into focus, which is that everyone has been talking bollocks about the (pretty good) defence, and the real issue is that we have THE WORST FINAL BALL IN THE PREMIERSHIP. Seriously, no attacking threat whatsoever.
