For up-to-the-minute posts and reactions? If not, here's one. I was gonna buy all pinot noir for the big event - IN HONOR OF A MOVIE THAT I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN! - that's how much oscar fever I have! I don't really have that much oscar fever. But we could make fun of people's hats. Yayyyyyyy! Hats!!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hats? Is this gonna be The Year That OScars Went Hats?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Yesterday I snuck around the Kodak Theater. Tight security, my ass. I walked around with headphones on and nobody tried to stop me from checking stuff out.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Sunday, 27 February 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Remy, were you googling for a picture there?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

so, who is watching? can i get a head-count?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be at a party, probably so drunk I have no idea what's going on. I may/not watch it.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be seeing Michael Mayer tonight while you guys are watching twelve minute self-congratulatory Hollywood montages/tributes, while the award winners who worked their whole lives to reach that pinnacle get handcuffed and dragged off the stage if they dare to speak for more than 45 seconds.

Suckers!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to bed soon, I think. Them Oscars a-gonna come too late for me anyway.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm at work, but we're watching 'cuz we have an office pool. (We're getting pizza too -- I love working weekends.)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not on UKTV! :((

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

But it has to be on UKTV! A billion people watch it every year! hahaha. there was a good article about that myth somewhere. someone just made up the billion figure and everyone has been repeating it for years. it's nowhere near that. must be good for the ego.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:56 (twenty-one years ago)

here it is:

http://newyorker.com/printable/?talk/050228ta_talk_radosh

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think this'll be the first time in 10 years that I won't be watching it.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

well the E! coverage is about to start.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

joan and melissa are over on the tv guide channel, I wonder if I should watch that?

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 27 February 2005 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

wow, if you google *academy awards billion viewers* you realize how ubiquitous that myth is.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I won't watch either. I wasn't interested in seeing much of what's up, and what I did see was, at best, alright.

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)

bbbbbut what about chris rock? he funny.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's on Sky Movies in the UK, which is a bit rub (since I don't have Sky Movies)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I just hope Liv Tyler shows up trying to look and sound like Audrey Hepburn again.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Rock is funny, but Oscar hosting is a thankless gig. (Except it prolly pays good.) Of course, I actually liked Letterman as the host, so what do I know.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

joan rivers is a trainwreck. i know, i know, big surprise. where does she go from the tv guide channel? public access in her basement? actually, that would make a good snl skit. she could watch E! while swilling a bottle of hootch and make fun of people's shoes. joan to beyonce: "i feel like you belong to me. do you remember when you were a teenager? how are you tonight?". all in a 3 second burst.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 27 February 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I like
1) hard nipples
2) backless dresses
and Hilary Swank just made me hit the trifecta.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the trifecta there?

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Left nipple to win, right nipple to place, naked back to show.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

NICE

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Natalie Portman wears yet another fugly dress.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

SHARON OSBOURNE AND JAMIE THEAKSTON!!!
...are your SKY MOVIES ONE oscars show presenters.
its kicks off any secod uk gang.

piscesboy, Monday, 28 February 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Rock is funny, but Oscar hosting is a thankless gig. (Except it prolly pays good.) Of course, I actually liked Letterman as the host, so what do I know.

-- gypsy mothra (meetm...), February 27th, 2005.

nope. doesn't pay at all. or as they like to charitably say, hosts prefer to defer their payment.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

"Every Oscar presenter and winner Sunday night will strut off with a gift bag valued at more than $100,000.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences doesn't want to talk about the contents of the gift bag - it's Oscar's dirty little secret, apparently, that the famous have to be all but bribed to show up. Companies compete to donate their products in the hope of reaping free publicity post-Oscar from the celebs.

So what's in this year's bag?

For starters, an 18-inch baroque Tahitian pearl necklace valued at $3,200; an iXi collapsible bike, $1,289; a year's supply of Vonage broadband telephone service, $500; a Krups kitchen set, $700; a cosmetics case with supplies, $600; cashmere pajamas, $500; a two-night stay for two in Carmel Valley, $2,500; and a day at a Manhattan spa, $3,500.

That's just touching upon the array of products, trips and gift certificates crammed into the bag."

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Zellweger madness! she looks insane.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

They just interviewed Renee Zellweger and she seemed a bit tipsy.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, xpost

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Is anyone else watching CSI: Weekends?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

a two-night stay for two in Carmel Valley, $2,500

Hahah, ridiculous. (Partially because I can do that for free anytime.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Zellweger is going to be so much easier to look at in 25 years (when she can use middle age as an excuse). I'm sorry, that's shallow of me.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Kirsten Dunst - baked per usual

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Has the Oscars started? Oh good. I'm going to bed now.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

oh gosh this is gonna be *really* annoying. the tv's downstairs, the pc's upstairs. i'm going to have to run between the 2 to do the thread-post/watch the show at the same time thing.

i keep getting the funny feeling that this is the year something reeeeaally weird happens.

piscesboy, Monday, 28 February 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

What's with Scarlett Johansson's hair?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm surprised there are still so many people left outside with the show starting in 5 minues

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

nope. doesn't pay at all.

Wow. I guess it's just for the honor of it all, huh? And the parties.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

And the Hollywood trim, son

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

How can anyone find Hilary Swank attractive?

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, Wolfgang Puck doing the aftershow

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Being interviewed by Chris Connelly looks like a bad first date.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I always feel bad I missed when Conan O'brien hosted. I doubt they'll ever show it again. I would want a fast forward button though...

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

What's wrong with Mike Myers' face?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You're not sitting on it. Oh wait, that came out wrong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"they're all just a little......a little.....different" (from the opening montage)

man, this thing is horribly produced. Proof positive that budget /= taste.

Adam Bruneau (oliver8bit), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how they cut to Puff Daddy when Chris Rock made a joke about the Source Awards. Because, you know, he's black! BLACK PEOPLE! GET IT?

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

For anyone in the UK, the LBC News coverage on the radio is hilariously cheap and silly. It's two people sat in a studio at 1:30AM sharing their 'predictions' and Jude Law gossip.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

But I do like Chris Rock. Just sayin'.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

they *started* with the clips montage!! aces! best bit right there.

piscesboy, Monday, 28 February 2005 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i just turned this on for dinner. has he been this funny all night?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

HALLE MARRY ME

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

chris rock shoulda just kept talking. Art Direction? no.

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Rock's been pretty damn funny, which is somewhat surprising given the sterile surroundings. I wish they would just let him riff for two or three hours. Going to the awards is kind of a bummer.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

There's going to be a Catwoman 2? Who ordered that?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Best Supporting Actor is... Morgan Freeman.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I AM CRANKED ON COFFEE AND COUGH MEDICINE! I'M GOING TO KEEP WRITING BRIDGET JONES I LOVE YOUR DRESS!

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Easy Reader you motherfuckers!!!!

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I still dunno why her face looks like that

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean Renee Zellweger? Yeah, she looks like she going to burst into tears at any given moment.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

is that really his first Oscar ever?

has it been this low-key all night?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Mississippi restaurateurs be winning Oscars! Reprazent!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

and as un-Middle American?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Robin Williams, you are not hosting. You are also old and not funny when you're sober.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Robin Williams: I'm not presenting an oscar! I'm the HOST! look at ME!

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

someone needs to shave and then kill robin williams, preferred order optional.

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

did anyone see robin williams on real time with bill mahr? god that was excruciating.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The Incredibles = Best Animated Feature.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Too bad Robin's Shaiman-penned musical number got axed.

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

She is like sexy squinty vampire.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

is Wolfgang Puck's celebrity from the pizzas alone or is he also on tv now? can i be declarative tonight?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

He has a show on the Food Network, I think.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he does soup too!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Drew is real cute in person...

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

what, did she put a book of poetry out or something? ROFFLES

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

His cookware is really good shit. (Puck's)

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

umm...weirdest live oscar performance ever alert?

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM about robin williams. someone get the hook!

BBBBBBBut what about the weird placement shit going down? Awards presented in the audience? All the nominees on stage??? weird.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Beyoncé en français!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Beyonce's french is terrible...

blawa (blawa), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm told Beyonce needs to learn french.
xpost

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

shake that booty with the boy's choir! in french!!

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

She needs to switch into character as Foxy Cleopatra in the middle of this. That would be CLASSIC.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

BEYONCE MARRY ME

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

what, no Prince duet?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

She sounded more like she was singing in Spanish.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

now, can Drew Barrymore speak French?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

She sounded like she was singing jibberish to me...

blawa (blawa), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the segue b/w peter pan and sharon stone was kind of disturbing
i like the random montage, but then i love fragments
chris rock was political, bitter and actually really funny--like whoopi, which means he wont come back
spike lee actually showed up for this, isnt this the first time in forever--didnt he say he would boycott ?
halles dress is missing a strap, and her hair is bothersome
points to alan aldsa for fucking someone vaugaely the same age as he
renee z needs more hips for that dress
can morgan freeman play something other then do no wrong saint paires, am i the only one who wants to see him as a vioelnt pimp ?
someone should tell morgan that ties a re a good idea
robin, shave and the colour should be reconsidered, but clint eastowwd dick jokes are encouraged.
cate blanchett is a fucking vision, and the dress has that creamy buttery, vulptulessness
one lss oscar for passion, YEA!
johnny depp is nominated, they could have gotten his wife to actually sing the french song in french, and not some bad american phonetics.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

idn't Morgan Freeman play a violent pimp once? It was a LOOOONG time ago.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

she's moving her head with each vowel sound. and in french.

piscesboy, Monday, 28 February 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

boy choir boner alert!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i can just see the autocue beyonce is reading with the anglicized french...oh, the tragedy...

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Before I forget, that Pepsi commercial with Spartacus was awesome.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Beyonce should stop letting her mom dress her.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't the French film where that song was from, like, over two years old?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

and someone should take the green eyeshadow away

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

aw, beyonce's dress was cute!

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know french, so i thought beyonce sounded nice.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No, the movie is from last year

blawa (blawa), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

not as nice as vanessa paradis would have been.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

chris rock seems to be only speaking to movie-goers of a certain race...

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahhaah this man on the street stuff is great

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:12 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I am not watching.

Just a thought for those who are:

When you see Hillary Swank, think of Matt Damon.

Well, she's got on a tiara, which is pretty cool.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

scarlett, yr hair resembles a badly groomed poodle--is this a way to gaurenteee indie boys will fuck you no matter how awful you look.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Scarlett is a wiggly talker. There's a reason she's not in theatre.

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The changes to speed up the ceremony aren't as bad as I thought they would be (having all the nominees on stage, etc.).

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Scarlett Johanssen annoys me. I suppose it's a lot to ask her not to be awkward at her age and in her milieu.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i will say i appreciate the visual additions to the thread

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

for the first time im not annoyed by real people and cartoons working together...i was amused.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i see they're cutting out on the time it takes for the winner to walk to the stage

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa! Scarlet goes Zsa Zsa.

kate/baby loves headrub (papa november), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

that picture is not great but i think she looks beautiful as usual. i actually spend a ridiculous amount of time (well... you know... i've probably spent a total of 4 minutes, but you know what i mean) contemplating what i would say to ask scarlett johansen out.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shoulder pads, batman!

There's a rather good picture of Morgan Freeman wearing big round sunglasses and the combination of that and his grey hair and horrible teeth make him look like a hobo.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

These Sideways clips make it look like the worst film ever.

cate blanchette wins oscar shocker! (not)

william, it was really nothing (superpopelectro), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

why wasnt sandra oh nominated for his category, which was a beter and more complex role then madsens and i am incensed the only nom that kinsey got was linney--who was brillaint, but so was neeseon and sarsgarde, and even chris o donnell)

cate blanchette, can act, but this was not he role to see her win, and this means the best movie of the year was too uncomfortable--aping aging stars in an act of ego ridden necrophillia isnt acting, its ancesor worship.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Sophie Okonedo should have been nominated for Dirty Pretty Things last year.

This is all being set up for Marty to lose in the end, isn't it?

piscesboy, Monday, 28 February 2005 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

its hard to explain--trapping the kids into a life, where they will end up as sex workers--and having nothing to say about that future, strikes me as deeply problematic, and the dikension melodrama that was used in this film struck me as explotive.

but then, sex work and factory work arent really different, are they.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

trapping the kids into a life, where they will end up as sex workers--and having nothing to say about that future,

I think you can chalk that more up to poverty and the class system in India. It's not like the parents set out to become sex workers in order to abuse their children. I think what the kids were given in return for the making of this film negates any Dickinson-ian explotation.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

oops wrong category.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

re: ray
jamie foxx did a tremendous impression. i am predisposed to not like biopics, firstly. and i don't think impressions are generally award-worthy because they don't generally ask as much of an actor.
but the main problem i had with Ray is the way it didn't delve into anything psychological inside any of the characters... the two most interesting characters, his wife and his manager, were totally skimmed over and abandoned just as they got any screentime. i didn't feel as though i knew ray charles any better than when the movie started. i felt as though i got a reel of highlights saying, and then he did this song (who cares why?) and then he attempted this genre (so what?!) and then he did smack (but you knew that, right?) and then he did another song (oh, haven't heard that one?) and then he quit smack (really, it was hard) and then... oh nevermind, we've been going on and on for about 2 hours and 24 minutes, right? well, let's just quit and show something from 197something and let you google the rest.

I want to read about Ray Charles to learn more about the whole fiasco with his manager. don't think you can give proper due to people like that in the span of a movie.

then he did this song (who cares why?) and then he attempted this genre (so what?!)

I care! Those bits were what I enjoyed most about the movie.

ant, all the proceeds from the sale of their photograph has gone directly back to the children. Several of them got the opportunity to attend boarding schools (although their parents prevented that in some cases), they learned an art form, one of them got to travel to Amsterdam . .I think it's easy to say that this filmmaker coming into their lives was probably the best thing that ever happened to the kids. Have you seen the pic ant?

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm depending on an Aviator sweep to win my soda bet. Blanchett's a good omen!

Only nominated movie I saw was the Invisibles and I was high and drunk and puking in the movie theater sink halfway through. it seemed good though!

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Vin Diesel looked like Dancin' Homer.

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Vin Diesel looked like Dancin' Homer.

WTF ARGH I HATE BEING AT WORK DURING EVERY AWARDS CEREMONY (except there is a certain joy in getting the scoop secondhand)

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

did vin have a wardrobe malfunction or something? what?

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

miccio, you meant Incredibles, right?

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

is there a guide to how we too can do this?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Chris Rock get fired?

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lumet acceptance speech was the best so far.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

No shit. Bring back funniness!

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Just another reminder:
Swank/Damon

peepee (peepee), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, Incredibles. I always mix that up.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:01 (twenty-one years ago)

They're giving the host of this fiasco less and less to do each year.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

But was I imagining, or did Lumet's whole family have silicons?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

can we talk more about maggie gylenhall, scarlett johansen or kirsten dunst?

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, i got choked up during that Lumet montage. I must be gettting soft. And his daughters! Raaawwwwrr! sorry, i'm a little tipsy.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Maggie and Kirsten = both have perma-slouch.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

did vin have a wardrobe malfunction or something? what?

They showed a scene with Vin from Lumet's new movie, he had a weird receding hairline and H. Simpson figure. He was so schlumpy!

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i kinda think the perma-slouch is hot.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Jimmy Mod Has Returned With Spices And Silks (ModJ), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, the lumet movie. Vin's playing a mob guy who defends himself in court. the schlumpy thing is a total DeNiro Jake LaMotta move.

it's kinda like the yo-yo ma and itzakh perlman performing every score thing, except not all at once

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Between this and "Soldier", not a good year for Beyonce.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Five minutes to change dresses, a half hour to have those eyes installed.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I find Beyonce's voice to be lacking. I believe she's doing THREE SONGS tonight.

sugarpants (sugarpants), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I figured out where missing oil from Iraq went, it's on Beyonce's eyelids.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I get my wish from Chris Rock - "comedy superstar Jeremy Irons"

it's kinda like the yo-yo ma and itzakh perlman performing every score thing, except not all at once

hmm. are they gonna do that again? how about gil and orli shaham.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Who are the two weird guys behind Irons (in the front row of that section)? They look familiar

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Jeremy Irons so much it isn't even funny.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The Linneymullet needs to GO.

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Linney's got some Botox action going on too

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

as much as I love "Accidentally In Love" I kinda wish they'd let Beyonce take a crack at it. Can she deal with 2nd rate Van Morrison?

miccio (miccio), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

is there anyone as simultaneously good- and creepy-looking? (Irons, not Linney)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

when beyonce was singing i kept picturing whitney houston at home grabbing bobby by the collar and pointing at the screen: "That used to be ME, bitch, that used to be ME!!!" I don't know why, really.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

christopher walken in that clip from the anderson tapes comes close to irons.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

as well, it was a long time ago i saw them, she very well may have improved since.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

firstworldman (firstworldman), Monday, 28 February 2005 03:58 (twenty-one years ago)

They shoulda just got Prince to sing all these fuckin songs.

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horn (AaronHz), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

when will sean penn get a sense of humour ?

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sean Penn is the most humorless man to have ever lived.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

What's up with Penn sticking up for Jude Law? That was so ghey.

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horn (AaronHz), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

sean penn is on teh drugs

lemin (lemin), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I just wanted to defend Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas -- first off, Salma is smokin' hot and she speaks Spanish GORGEOUSLY. Secondly, Mr. Banderas sang his heart off on that song and I think choosing him was a very wise decision indeed. My mom completely ripped on Penelope Cruz -- she doesn't find her attractive and says, "Did you see her nose? I'll bet she can touch it just by sticking her tongue out." But Salma -- we both agree Ms. Hayek is beautiful.

Carlos Santana was kinda okay, but I kinda have a vendetta against him because he and his stupid hippie music has remained an insidious part of my life since I was very, very little. Especially this one odious offender, an instrumental I hear at almost every fucking reception I go to ARGH I WANT TO KILL KILL KILL KILL.

Anyway. I'm so happy that song won. Yay!!!!

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

S!monB!rch (Carey), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I changed the channel just now specifically because I knew the rest of the program would be horridly predictable and not give me or anyone else viewing the program any iota of a surprise. *yawn* Not what I want.

(And yeah, it would've rocked if Kate Winslet won instead, but, oh well. It's the fucking OSCARS, right? They're only just now starting to get it in the Best Song category. Give them awhile to get it elsewhere.)

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 28 February 2005 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

8:05: Hilary Swank wins Best Actress (umm, duh)! Tragically, she wasn’t able to find a stylist to dress her on her big night, and had to settle for slipping into a three-dollar navy blue stocking from JC Penney cut down to reveal her toned ass-crack.

and

8:03: Sean Penn laments that five thousand actors can’t be nominated for Best Actor/Actress each year, the only way that the craft can be properly respected. Lesser Baldwins watching from check-cashing instutitons silently nod their approval.

She wants a second Razzie? She needs more dough? She promised someone she'd do it in exchange for this really meaty role she's been wanting to do forever and ever, amen? She lost a bet? The producers know incriminating secrets against her that they're blackmailing her on? She developed an addiction to the costumes she wore in the first one and can't bear to think of life without having worn them again? She misspoke and actually she's going to star in Cat People 2?

Chris Rock’s Bush-bashing rant on ABC’s Academy Awards show was disgusting. I didn’t tune in to be insulted by Rock - but I was.

If you were insulted, feel free to call ABC at (818) 460-7477 and let them know how you feel. When you call, press 4 to skip the voice recording. You only have 30 seconds to make your point, so be pithy (thanks Bill for letting me use your pet phrase).

I urge you to call if you were offended.

If emailing is your thing (I recommend calls over emails as emailing is largely ignored when you have 50,000 spams clogging the inbox. In addition, calling allows you to opt for a written response.), the email address is netaudr@abc.com.

Because Scorsese apparently started loving Oscar instead of just shrugging it off like most sane people.

I would rather Scorsese never win than have won for "The Aviator," so I'm happy. Someone should cut that guy's budgets back down to size, given what a cluttered mess he made of "Gangs of New York" and this one. Fortunately, I feel Scorsese has at least another truly great movie or two left in him.

I was shocked to hear "M$B" was made in just a little over a month! Oddly enough, as a director Eastwood is starting to embody the auteur theory far more than Scorsese ever did.

I arrived home last night just in time for the death montage.

I think it's sad that classical musicianship has fallen off so much that there is, in fact, only one cello player left in the entire world (Yo-Yo Ma). And apparently there's only one female singer in the entire world (Beyoncé Knowles). Maybe by next year the Academy will ahve trained up a few youngsters in these obscure and undercompetitive arts.

What happened to "Nobody Knows," I thought it was going to be in this year?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 February 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)
