The mainstream media has not (yet) exploited boy-on-boy action [1] to the degree it uses girl-on-girl fantasy. Men: You have been conditioned, in the best Pavlovian manner, to drool at the idea of lesbianism.
[1] Although the Lord of the Rings movies and Smallville are clearly pointing in this direction.

Ironic, considering what a *market* there is for this, considering by the bulk of TV fan fict.
Though I suppose lesbianism is seen as something "slightly naughty" and spicy, but not really challenging. A woman will sit through a lesbian scene and roll her eyes. How would a straight man react to a boyslash scene? (And I'm not talking about overtly gay-pitched programmes like Queer As Folk, etc.)

i am completely fucking addicted to this show. i completely fucking love it! and i completely fucking hate it! we're on season two in nz, i'm relieved its getting better. like the characters actually have personalities now! except shane. i'm sorry but i don't get the shane thing, she bugs the fuck out of me. yeah yeah she's hot, i can't deny this, but her butchness is so forced, its like, god, can't you just BE butch instead of trying oh so hard to act it? what i don't get about her character is how all the girls she pulls think she's so fucking great. and its like but c'mon she is a hairdresser!!! and she never does or says anything remotely interesting that'd make me come back for more. all style (and yes what a style it is) but no substance. for this reason i am LOVING camryn manheim's character, finally someone in the show whose whole purpose is to be a bitch to shane. that gives me a bigger boner than shane herself.
yes the betty theme has to go, this is agreed. but season one's fetusmusic theme was equally appalling, in its own special way.
and everyone on that fucking show needs to eat a tonne of something. anything! dear god, how can i find these women sexy when they ALL look like they would break the fuck apart at the mere sight of a vibrator??? fuck man, i don't have anything against skinny women, but do ALL of them (bar pam grier) have to be that skinny? yeah yeah i know, tv industry standards of acceptable femininity etc. and i totally feel EVERYONE'S jenny hatred. die you whinging crying self-pitying little wannabe pixie. your writing makes carrie bradshaw look like a genius.
fuck now what do i like about this show? well um its the only show on tv about lesbians. and over the months that i've made myself watch this shit for the sole fact that it is about lesbians, i have developed a fondness for some of the characters, particularly dana. i'm really bummed that kit's transgender friend is no longer on the show, now there was a storyline with potential.

Just mostway through Season 3, but the trans character Moira/Max is another great character. Great voice, great way of carrying himself/herself. The end of the episode "Lobsters" was some kind of peak.
So why is Shane receding? Argh...
― Pete Scholtes, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 15:54 (seventeen years ago)
I guess tonight's the end? Still don't have Showtime. But we watched through Season 5. I liked the return to more humor, but man, some clumsy plotting choices in Seasons 4 and 5, and I feel like they lost track of Shane's character in 5, which feels like a general low point. The season began with the first out-and-out dud of an episode, and did away with the opening/teaser conceit of the previous four seasons. I didn't quite buy Kit's violent breakdown, or find the women-in-prison jokes funny, or enjoy watching the first season re-dramatized again as a bad Hollywood movie. But it can still be so good. And then there's Max, who has made the show worthwhile even is he's on the margins.
― Pete Scholtes, Sunday, 8 March 2009 22:22 (seventeen years ago)
After a wildly uneven Season 5, Season 6 began with some nice twists and hotness, but went rapidly downhill with what felt like a bunch of amateur guest directors making one ill-advised choice after another, the tone going utterly haywire--the worst moments being the "comedic" music. The second-to-last episode seemed to have a real director, and showed how good the show could be. The last episode was just crazy-bad, like anger-inducing bad. What a cheat!
