mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Making a phone call to mum.

moley, Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

she's in the uk?

we are doing a visit to my sisters for the family day. i'm indifferent to the endless roll out of "special" days - but i'll participate cos i like my family.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

A new thread already? WTF.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

estela (estela), Thursday, 5 May 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

i don't have the others jed :(

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

I finally met kit last night! We talked about you, mully. Then I tried to play a gig, but the sound engineer was so whacked out we had to give up. He got fired that very night. And then kit generously gave us a lift home.

moley, Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

kit drives???!!!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

is that anything like a zip drive?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

is that like a zip code?

wossy like then? the ol' kitster.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

well, he drives a zippy hatchback.

kit is a very nice person! Unsurprisingly.

moley, Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

mully i have an mp3 for you - is that a real email addy? can it take 10mb?

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

mully can take 10mb can't you mully? You can take it all, and then some. We don't call him grubby mully for nothing.

moley, Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

jed i have a gmail it is for mullygrubber.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

yes this thread is now unclean. new thread please!

*looks over shoulder for Ned*

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

that vinyl thread is giving me the irrits

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

i popped in and out VERY quickly.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

that was definitely the shortest set I've ever seen performed

not the first time I've seen a support play longer than the headliner though. possibly not even the longest gap between support and headline, even with strangers being recruited from the pool table to try and rewire the entire on-stage set-up in an effort to outfox the soundy's incompetence!

the hatchback is my flatmate's. she doesn't have a driver's licence.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

did it expire? or is she a wishful thinker?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

and why is there no good gigs on tonight? i'd like to see the bites but i'm not paying $10 to have half of it go in treetops' pockets.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

when you are watching bands perform what do you DO? i mean most of the time its too loud to listen and thats worse if you've got to stand up. i mainly think random thoughts, look at girls bums, that kind of thing.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

in the old days i would smoke. these days i drink and nod my head a bit

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

sometimes i use the time to plan world domination

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

and also the girls bums thing

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

that was definitely the shortest set I've ever seen performed

have you seen smallcock kit?

do you fold your arms jim?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

sometimes, but only if i don't have booze in hand

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

I tend to stare at the instruments. I don't bob about or appear to be enjoying myself. I wish I could but I end up as close to the stage as I can get, staring like a freak. Must be a bit frightening from the performers point of view.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

if i'm enjoying the band i think about what i could appropriate for my own ends, if i'm not enjoying them i have all manner of sour grapes thoughts

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

hmm that makes me sound like a cunt

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

I have seen Smallcock, at ten minutes he went for about 20 times as long as Moley!

Looked at some bums last night while waiting, but it was a goth club so there was more cleavage on display. I would have danced but I am about to go and get x-rayed to find out if I have a fractured rib or a bust lung and lots of movement hurts :(

(plus goth clubs apparently don't play much danceable music these days)

x-post Jim: her Ls expired a couple of years ago

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

the last time i was at a goth club they played sisters of mercy, radiohead, and other things i couldn't stand

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

o yeah depeche mode

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

i like a nice sit down gig. a few tables, clear view of the geezer playing the spanish guitar, no crowds at the bar.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

the last time I was at a goth club they probably played Sisters and Depeche and I would have been perfectly happy! but that was in 1994.

Radiohead can eat a limited-edition package of dicks

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

Are you guys talking about "DJ Smallcock"? All I know is that he/she "remixed" a Noise Ramones track that I believe was on Psy-Harmonics, which would make sense for y'allz to be talking about him/her.

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

i don't believe i have EVER been to a goth club. hi jon yes dj smallcock he runs dualpover.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

Me neither. I've been a lot of gay bars though.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

there's a smallcock track on the dualplover comp i got recently. it were not great

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

heh funny typo

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

i've been to a lot of gay bars too kate!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Cool. I wasn't even trying to pick up! I don't know what I was doing there actually.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

The only time I can actually recall with any clarity was when they were playing a trancey remix of dreamweaver.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

I try to dance, usually. you know what these melbourne indie kids are like, though.

haitch (haitch), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

(also: check out girls)

haitch (haitch), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

His remixes were "infantile noise". Then again, so was the whole album! Grebt art though:

the Smallcock show I saw (he might have been billed as Lucius Abela tho, dunno if Smallcock shows are substantially different) consisted of him screaming at and blowing raspberries onto and wiping his face on a sheet of perspex that was taped with lots of contact mics, then smashing it over his head and cutting himself up with the shards, while running the result through delay pedals or summat so it sounded like a shimmering glissando for several minutes. Was ace!

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

dualplover = best value cd pressing in australia

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

always should try doing that, it would improve his sets considerably

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, isn't there some aussie noise artist that smears himself in vasoline and rubs himself all over plate glass with contact mics?

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

last time i saw smllcck he had a tone arm or some kinds detached cartridge/stylus thing (hes a dj!) and he seemed to be sticking it in his mouth which caused this unholy ruckus and started him spasming like he'd been electrocuted and he did a back flip and hurt himeself pretty bad i think = 10 secs.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

whatta dude

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

best story i heard: he organised a live & direct isdn from japan gig of merzbow but really just got someone to play a merzbow record down the phone.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

the next band had to come out and play in puddles of his blood

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

his record is truly appalling

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

worse than aaron]s?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I've got one track on the Blunt compilation, it was a radio interview played backwards or something

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

there is a whole album of sister gwen mckay apparently.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Man, I spent way too much at Weekender and other indie clubs around the turn of the millennium.

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Thursday, 5 May 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm slow... but wtf:

(plus goth clubs apparently don't play much danceable music these days)

What the hell goth club did you go to Kit!?!??!! The goth clubs here play NOTHING but DOOF AND FUCKIN EBM all the fuckin time. Wumpscutt, Skinny Puppy, VNV Nation, Manson, NIN, Covenant, Apoptygma Beserk, all that eurofag gothy synth trance shite. I cant stand it.

I want to hear guitars!! Which is why I am going to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on satdee night.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

Unless by danceable you meant rock music or something, but hell, its like going to a rave now days. With PVC and big hair extensions. Ugh.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

Also at gigs, I often jump right into the mosh, well I used to anyway, and dance and crash around with the boys! But I go to gigs like TISM and stuff, thats kind of expected.

Too old for that sort of arse nowdays tho. But I did boogie at the Aphex gig.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

wow it sounds quite...good

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

haha I have that Noise Ramones thing! it is not really the Neu!-meets-Suicide bag of awesomeness that the Wire's Boredoms primer sold it as, but hey.

haitch (haitch), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

i haven't been to a gig with a mosh since... hmm.. well someone tried to start one at guided by voices.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 6 May 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

I do like dance music, I didnt mean to be so rude in my antigoth rant, but theres something peculiar about gothy EBM type trance that makes it sound so very very samey (you know that trancey synth noise that goes ehhehh ehheehh eehh eehh ... yeah that). I think in general I've gone off clubs, gigs, and all that. Would honestly rather be in front of the telly under a blanket.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 6 May 2005 02:02 (twenty years ago)

woohoo, very successful trip to the $2 bin today

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 6 May 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

i'm not a fan of trance at all - in fact i generally can't stand any 'dance' music that doesn't have at least very basic roots in electro.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 6 May 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

ehhehh ehheehh eehh eehh

hahaha!

haitch (haitch), Friday, 6 May 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

Like casio cicadas, they drone on endlessly! OK, if I'm e'ing off my nogg, sure, its fine, but normally? Argh. I note that drunkenness actually makes drono-trance even MORE annoying.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 6 May 2005 02:41 (twenty years ago)

PS I like Infected Mushroom. So I am a big fat talker of the poo.

Haha is that from what I said on that other thread Tad? =) Yeah I know, its frustrating esp for my b/f that all the great game companies are in the states, he's hard pressed to even find 3d artist jobs in Melbourne. We dont wanna move elsewhere tho :(

Is the the Mongry/Fuxie version of CLUB BANG?

I dunno! Is CLUB BANG a goff club? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's gonna be kickin' it goth oldskool, lots of Alien Sex Fiend, Banshees, Bauhaus, Specimen, Christian Death, Cure, Dead Can Dance, all that kinda thing. Should be fun to see all the old crustygoths come out of hiding =)

ahh, but it was said just to entice trayce :-)

seriously, i'd consider law firms or firms that service them (lawyers are computer hogs AND don't know shit about computers) -- but that's just my industry, so i may not be really the best person for advice here.

My least favourite threads are the ones where someone goes 'what Aussie bands are worth listening to?' and the others come back with the same old list they've been banging on about for three years.

Janne visited the site once and went 'Hihi! Aussie bands are shit except for Sadistik Exekution! Peabody! The body of a pea!'

Jon, is remy OK? We worry.

Church arsonist blames heavy-metal hero
By Steve Butcher
May 5, 2005

A devoted follower of a Scandinavian band notorious for its heavy metal anti-Christian music burnt down a majestic Moonee Ponds church in a multimillion-dollar arson attack.

Novak Majstorovic had drunken visions of the 107-year-old Ascot Vale Uniting Church being responsible for society's problems with law, ethics and morality.

Majstorovic, 19, admitted his passion for the band Burzum, whose lead singer was allegedly involved in burning down numerous Norwegian churches in the 1990s, helped create a heavy metal ideological imagery based on good and evil.

"It can be explained through any real meanings, you know, but using God and Satan is just like a... it's an image," he toldpolice after his arrest.

Victorian arson squad detectives treated Majstorovic as a suspect after investigations revealed his interest in Burzum and "black metal" music and culture.

Police learnt the band's lead singer Varg Vikernes, now in jail for murder, was commonly referred to as a Satanist, but was regarded more as deeply anti-Christian and anti-Semitic.

Majstorovic yesterday appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court to plead guilty to arson and burglary from the fire in Maribyrnong Road, Moonee Ponds, on August 29, 2004.

His lawyer Shannon Dellamarta said the damage was valued at more than $3 million.

In a summary tendered to the court, the church, widely used by its local community, was described as majestic and ornate. Its irreplaceable pipe organ and historic records were destroyed in the fire.

Majstorovic, who had drunk half a bottle of bourbon, had earlier left a party, telling guests he was going to burn the church. After entering, he lit Bibles, scrap paper, books and flags near the pulpit and left.

Asked days later by Detective Sergeant Andrew Kerr if he considered the elderly who had cried over the church or what it had stood for, Majstorovic replied: "It was what it stood for, but it's... it's just an object, you know. It's just a building. Faith lies with the individual."

Pressed by Sergeant Kerr about it being sacred and a "heart and soul of things", he said that the church "doesn't like people to cling to any sort of idols here on earth".

Majstorovic said that because he was drunk and near a church he thought he would act on an ideological belief the church was responsible for society's problems.

"A lot of the concepts of my ideologies and stuff would, sort of, stem from heavy metal, from the imagery of heavy metal, from the metaphors that heavy metal uses with the, like, Christian sort of metaphors of good and evil and such," he said.

Magistrate Lisa Hannan bailed Majstorovic, of Hoppers Crossing, to appear in the County Court on August 23

Jer is fine, he messaged me hi the other day, he's only offline cos he has finals and he is MEGA busy and so needs to stay offline, wise move I think. He said the school bullshit all calmed down but wasnt on long enough to elaborate. Yay, though. I like Jer =)

I didnt stay on drinkin' last night, cuz I was interrupted by the hilarity of Nick bursting drunkenly up the stairs and in the door last night at about 9.30, staggering about shouting "HOORAY! IM SMASHED!". It was great :D So we watched some dvds and kept drinkin.

My stomach's givin' me jip lately though, I guess its all the wine, and stress, Ive had sharp pains in places Im sure thats not a good thing.

So, sorry about the lack of pvc, ya drunken bums. Actually I realised most of my good pvc pics are actual photos - and Ive no scanner.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

I was sooo close to drinking last night, decided against it, had a good night's sleep and hammered it at the gym this morning. Then I came home and wrote an entire user manual. The end.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 7 May 2005 05:20 (twenty years ago)

i think getting out of job would help. i mean training around a fault is an option sure. learn to love shit etc etc but i just want a life and am reasonably depressed i think. i tried some zoloft a while ago and it didn't help.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 7 May 2005 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Get the fuck out of that job. Do what I should have done years ago. Take anything you can get, anything at all, just get the fuck out.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 7 May 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

no, thats what i need adam. i obv am hesitant to post the details on a board i post to from work.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 7 May 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

Sorry to hear things are tough gaz :( *hugs* FWIW, drinking totally wont help. I know thats hypocritical coming from me, but I know it exacerbates these things. Which sucks, because those of us who struggle usually turn to drink or drugs to help us out, and man, I wish I could find a better way to deal, but at the moment I just dont. The older I get, the more I am damaging myself, instead of having done it all as a young thing and getting over it - and that is killing me (ha, well..).

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 7 May 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

Having just said all that I'm in a fine mood today btw, not depressed or nothing - just a longer term melancholy at my own ... disintegration.

My mother-in-law digs the place. I hate it. I like to buy what I set out to buy. My mother always taught me it's not a bargain if you didn't want it in the first place. I guess thats kind of stuck with me.

Hey Glad Girls / Kate (papa november), Sunday, 8 May 2005 06:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm kinda the opposite. i never know what i want. theres a million things out there! shopping is only ever a chore when you have to find something you need.

hence my cd collection - a million things, none of which i knew i wanted.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 8 May 2005 07:03 (twenty years ago)

i was hoping for some cheapo corporate-wear. azif! i obviously had completely the wrong impression of the place. i saw some alright shoes but i don't need any of them. i'm a bit like kate and her mum, if i don't need it i won't buy it. unless it's a cd, they are in a special exceptional category of their own. i need all the cds. ALL OF THEM.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 8 May 2005 07:12 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 8 May 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

i got blonde on blonde and the freewheelin' bob dylan last week. i like what i've heard, which is pitifully little. they have hwy 61 and bringing it all back home for $10 too, that might be next week's purchase

Hah. No, but that would have at least made it entertaining. I was sitting there wincing at every bad joke made - and there were a LOT of them, even in the 5-minute segment.

A lot of people will have seen this as the preceding interview (with Cate Blanchett) would have drawn a lot of viewers.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

sciffle ain't never gonna be cool now edward. you will be resigned - like me in the library and feel good christian youth - to be forever daggy.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

best start listening to mainstream country music straight away!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

You're doing a better job of obfuscating the real subject than I am, haha. Brilliant.

Seriously though, I used to NEVER admit my dorky secret, and now I'm just starting to do it, people DON'T assume I'm a complete putz for it and NOW THIS MEANING I HAVE TO GO BACK IN THE CLOSET AGAIN. Why, etc.

Skiffle should come back, though.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure i just read a mention on lonnie donergan on another thread

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

thats what i mean edward! i find it very difficult to mention to blokes i meet that i'm a librarian. or that i like shania twain.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

and whenever the embarrassment has died down and being a librarian is ok some fool in the indusrty starts trying to make it cool and falls flat on their stupid faces and everyone thinks i'm a dag again.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

There's a big Shania shrine of memorabilia in her old home town in Canada. They'd need someone to keep track of al the merchandise and crap like that. This could be your dream job, you know.

Or mine, possibly.

edward o (edwardo), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Fucker is gonna look back on all this at some point and go "oh shit wtf have I done". Oh well.

I annoyed someone at work with Infinity Girl by Stereolab. Not that it was on repeat [1-2 times a day at most], but there's a sound near the middle of the track that travels, no matter how low the volume is.

I can't remember the name of it but it was this band of smelly bogans from the country with flannelette shirts and three-foot beards and LAGERPHONES and they'd sing complete fucking arse songs about living in the country and beer and the bush and boiling water in those tin things you put on a campfire, and he kept trying to SELL the tapes to the rest of us. Dead set I reckon I turned him down at least a thousand times.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

Yay, that really does make for a happy wednesday.

I am looking after Darren who has glandular fever and would rather be anywhere else.

I walk along a thin line darling / Kate (papa november), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

Glandular's horrible. Send my/our regards.

I have a distinct memory of being in so much pain that I had to crawl from my bed to the medicine cabinet to get painkillers. It took about half an hour to get there.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

When I had it I wasnt in a huge amt of pain, but I suffered terribly with sleepiness to the point I didnt know where I was most of the time. I recall days and days in bed, drfiting in and out of sleep/conciousness, wondering if I was hallucinating hearing someone playing a piano next door, wondering how it was possible to sleep for so long without stopping. Weird and not pleasant at all. My work life suffered enourmously and I never really got over it properly (since about 22, I have had to fight thru life with constant low level pains/aches, exhaustion, and batches of depression. I am next to never bouncy, fit, active. The thought of actively wanting to dance til 5am, or go for a run, is beyond comprehension. I think I've got used to it, but I dont like it)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

(this is also the main drive behind all the painkillers/booze/etc which is a horrible catch 22 obv)

(whats with the brackets aargh)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Hahah FUCK. Kate, I just sent you an email with nothing in it from my work account. Dont get weirded out! I hit a bunch of buttons wrong thanks to this pc being slow as shit and it sent an email to you!

FFS. Stupid pc.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

Early in my glandular spell I had a mental attack in which I actually smashed the telly remote control to pieces.

I'm well over it now but it took years to fully recover [this is back in 1997 I think].

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

I think the way Darren sees it, he's already technically been sacked so he might as well stay home and get better for the next job. Driving accross the city from Mum and Dad's to his place to look after him is sending me broke though. Ironic, I try to get away and here I am nursing him and mopping his brow.

Trayce, any emails are good, even blank ones :)

I walk along a thin line darling / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

ok here is my story. last year i had a massive infatuation with the sunday arvo dj at my local pub. i thought he was indescribably hot. we had little smiling and winking flirty games going on for ages, but i never said more than hello as i am very shy. my friends all thought he was scruffy and yuk and that it is inadvisable to pursue djs as they have a reputation for being no-hoper pricks who take too many recreational drugs and sledged me mercilessly over my love for him. this didn't put me off my infatuation.

cut to this year... i haven't been to that pub for ages. last night i competed in the WA law schools championship negotiation comp. and who was one of my judges? the self-same dj - he is a lawyer by day, dj by night! i couldn't work out who he was for a little while, he looked different in the suit but still totally hot. disappointingly, we didn't win the comp. on the upside, he knew who i was, called me by name and shouted after me in the carpark to come and say hello to him the next time i see him at the pub. my life is so terminally boring that i was beside myself with glee. now i feel a bit pathetic. hehe.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:25 (twenty years ago)

I'll be back later... after this I have to call people about jobs etc

xpost: omg that is the best story ever! I expect follow-ups.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

That's not pathetic, to quote Paris...that's hot! I hope something comes of it.

I walk along a thin line darling / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

yay

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

Nuts to your friends who said he was a scruff too! He's a lawyer scruff!

I walk along a thin line darling / Kate (papa november), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

i have to admit, i hope something comes of it too. although he does always have hoardes of dj groupies swarming around him at the pub, i don't really like the idea of hopping in a queue. but still, it felt like some weird quirk of fate. i emailed my sledgin' friends smugly noting law is not a 'no-hoper' occupation. they said lawyer or no lawyer he needs a good wash. pffft.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

I love the Liberal party.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:43 (twenty years ago)

The tax cuts are a JOKE. Richer people getting a way larger taxcut than the poor? Single mums and people on disability pensions having them taken off them?

And here's the offensive one: more (almost twice the amount, in fact) of the budget allocated to private schools than to public schools, despite the fact private schools only make up like 20% of the school population.

Apparently you see, being on $80k+ a year is "not wealthy". Apparently loads of people are on over $100k a year, thats the "middle australia" celebrating these tax cuts.

COSTELLO WHAT DRUGS ARE YOU ON IN LA LA FAIRY LAND.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

the daily fucking telegraph had a full front page with just the words Workers-1, Shirkers-0

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

ah but you see all this extra wealth that those rich cunts get will trickle down - won't it?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

i thought the most offensive part of it was the reduction from capacity to work 30 hours to capacity to work 15 hours to be eligible for the disability pension. i mean really, wtf??

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

eh? so if you can work more than 15 hrs you cannot get da pension?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

my point was there shouldn't be tax cuts at all. i don't need an extra $10 a fortnight but i do need several essential government services to not be filleted to pieces.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

i'd like to fucking disable and fillet costello

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

yeah fully. how was his 'it's a budget for the future' comment? i dunno what future he's living in, it certainly won't be the same as ours though seeing as he can probably afford private healthcare and isn't disabled or a single parent.

I walk along a thin line darling / Kate (papa november), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

true dat gaz

gem (trisk), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:56 (twenty years ago)

See I'd agree Jim, but when papers like the Tele and the herald scum think the budget is a GOOD one, it means a large portion of people out there also think "yay, less tax for me the good old aussie hard worker, and those scummy dole bludgers will pay now muahaha!"

And then vote him in.

Mind you these are the kind of people who are probably plumbers/carpenters getting 120k a year cash in hand, and rorting their own taxes and accounting.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 12 May 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

And here's the offensive one: more (almost twice the amount, in fact) of the budget allocated to private schools than to public schools, despite the fact private schools only make up like 20% of the school population.

The Liberals don't have a clue anymore.

Increased funding to private schools and reduced funding to tertiary institutions?

Giving money to people for having kids, and making life hard for them once they give birth?

What kind of fucked-up logic goes into making policy that looks like that??

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 12 May 2005 03:21 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

It's fucked, is what it is.

It's no secret that we might not have kids at all because we just can't manage it. We both work, we both have thing we want to do, and we can't factor in the time and cost of sprog farming as well.

jesus, yer government's also got a bad case of dubya-itis: to wit, i'm rich and i got mine and fuck the rest of y'all! tax cuts for the rich will stimulate the economy.

it sucks, don't it?!? now i understand the ire w/ howard.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 12 May 2005 04:44 (twenty years ago)

haha it could be worse we could have tony abbott as an impending pm

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 May 2005 04:52 (twenty years ago)

By being under bush you've already understood the ire w/howard. Except our bloke doesn't start wars, he just does whatever bush is doing.

Costello's bad enough. Seen him at one of those assemblies of god rallies? He's up on the stage praise-the-lord-hallelujah and everything.

tax cuts for the rich will stimulate the economy.

Yeah they wish - more like "tax cuts for the rich means the rich will realise they dont have to slog their guts out working so much overtime and will just go golfing, and leave the hard work to the poor middleman fucker who is already overworked and oh by the way doesnt GET any overtime pay" etc rarghhh.

The Liberals got so many votes [and preference votes, thanks to whackjob parties like Family First] that it has control of the upper house. Nobody can block anything.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 12 May 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

The other day I saw a very supportive, optimistic documentary about Family First. All about how good the party is, what it's founded on, its treacherous road to success, and all the myths about the party that aren't true. Yet, despite its best efforts, it STILL showed up the party for the right-wing bigoted divisive ignorant bloody gaggle of fuckwits that it is. Incredibly scary stuff.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 12 May 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

Reminds me of the doco I saw last night about the insane christian university in the US, did you see that one? Some Negus thing. Scary shit, these people were the most conservative, boring, right wing weirdos, but that in itself wouldnt worry me... what did, was their huge amount of interns getting INTO THE WHITE HOUSE. THESE PEOPLE HAVE INFLUENCE IN THE GOVERNMENT FROM RIGHT OUT OF SCHOOL OMG.

America, you're screwed. Have a nice day! =)

Friday 13th, mufukkas!

I had a really weirdass disturbing dream last night whereby I was in a 3some with an unnamed feral hippy chick and this guy I know who's the ex of one of my friends - someone I have NO attraction to whatsoever. Ew. I woke up going "argh wtf was that all about?"

it's an ongoing issue related to differences in the way we act/what we expect in social situations. when i feel like my expectations aren't being met i start throwing the toys out of the pram, as it were. i think that up to a certain extent i have a valid beef, but i don't handle the situation very well at all.

the situation is unknown til tomorrow evening. i am listening to stevie nicks' greatest hits.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Friday, 13 May 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

i suspect the grape and grain thing really refers to being ridiculously pissed anyway and scouring the house for ANYTHING remotely alcoholic.

to be less facetious music taste is a funny thing. i used to hate 60s music til three years ago, now i listen to it far more than recent stuff.

nah. the fringe went when i went to art school and a chick i liked thought...hey, me shaving gaz head would make a good video.

but yes...the late great matthew spektor (where he?) sent me his pebbles picks and...fuck me. goldie the eternal joker made me a cdr of both sets but when i played them they turned out to be...that folkways set.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 May 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 13 May 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

But bright blue/green? That's weird.

Still, better a blue tongue than having no voice.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 13 May 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

i'm gonna buy it then. and if its shit you owe me 50c jim.

"pretty decent" is no recommendation

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Saturday, 14 May 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

That's a pungent expression.

It's enough that gaz likes some of my stuff to make me a very happy man. Most of my friends don't listen to my music at all! Rachael couldn't name one of my pre Cherry releases. And I like it that way: it's dispiriting to be bound by the past.

moley, Saturday, 14 May 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

xpost me too. think i might have to give up booze again.

i have that single gun theory cd with a million miles on it. it reminds me of year 11 and the beach.

Because they kept using the same breakbeat for every track, we used to call them Single Drum Theory, hahaha. And they called us Itch-E and Bitch-E.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 May 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

We don't know. He's in hospital. He's lost 20 kgs in a month or something crazy. I barely recognise him.

Thanks, I mean I still care about him. I'm feeling really guilty that if it's stress related, it's probably my fault.

Jesus Christ, that's nasty! Glad he's in hospital, you just can't be coughing up blood!

It's natural you should feel concerned. You needn't feel guilty though as this is not your fault.

ponce!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

I made cheese scones and pumpkin soup with cumin for lunch! omg *drool*

Funniest thing of all: recipe called for some extra baking powder. Shit, I dont have any, sez I. I will have flat scones! O wait - Eno's has bicarb of soda in it! I'll just use that. Genuis!

The scones have a faint taste of lemony fizzygood makefeelnice, but it kinda works with the cheese.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 May 2005 06:37 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I wonder if it would also work with jam and cream? That could be smashing!

moley, Sunday, 15 May 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

I wonder Trayce... what do you think of the idea of making scones dough with lemon zest? I think that could be nice.

I am also wondering what else they can do with Domino pizzas? Barbecue sauce as a layer in the pizza base is the most disgusting one yet.

moley, Sunday, 15 May 2005 06:42 (twenty years ago)

Tho the ad for that pizza is pretty hilarious.

But yeah, oddly this recpie called for lemon juice in with the milk, as a replacement for buttermilk. Personally I'd rather have used buttermilk, or even a glob of yoghurt, to get a tang thats not really like lemons, more..well, tangy.

Lemon zest could work, maybe also with some cinnamon and sultanas?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 May 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Now we're talking serious munchie food.

moley, Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

i like to play midfield although in truth thats probably not the best position for me. i read the game well but as old age encroaches i find my pace and ability to change direction are going. although i am a little hesitant in strong challenges i am a major physical presence on the field - more often than not the one to hold up the competitions counter attacks. in addition, although rarely considered the player with the most flair, in a majority of cases i am involved in moves that lead to goals - in some cases finishing them off myself!

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Monday, 16 May 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm seeing a physio tonite, and I plan on going to see my podiatrist about getting new in-shoe orthotics soon too. I think as Ive not been wearing them in forever, plus wearing flimsy shoes, I'm starting to really feel it. I'm back in my Docs today and already noticing how much ankle support and springy sole-ness I seem to need. My feet are USELESS.

I can turn my right foot 180 in the opposite direction you know! =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

I need to somehow get orths that are totally slimline and will fit into shoes without pushing up my foot too much - I have majorly high arches and as it is, shoes are tight across my foot and a pain in the...er, foot.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

Hell yeah best thing I ever did was jump ship sideways from Support into the privisioning team at my old work. "Why are you doing that, it isnt a step up?" everyone asked.

hahah, replied I, as I stopped having to do bleedy shift work anymore.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

i am thinking of applying for a new job. it is only 4 days a week. 2 of those days are sat/sun though :(

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 16 May 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

For years I tried applying to get out of support in my old job, and every time I was knocked back on the grounds that "you don't have enough experience." I tried explaining that I had approx. 4979324587234 times more experience in what I was applying for than what I was actually doing but they wouldn't listen. After a while it became evident that this happened to everyone in the company.

I was ambivalent about the whole thing until this whole baggage handlers shifting drugs domestically hoo-haa got blown open. I mean come on - isnt it now obvious that it was probably those guys, or guys like them (I bet its rife in the baggage/customs community) fucked up and stuffed weed into a bag they meant to go to, say, Sydney and not bali?

Who would take drugs INTO bali? wtf? Out of, sure maybe but into!?

First two came from my mother-in-law who lives there. I made up the third. Fourth came from someone I know who's involved with the police force and knows stuff about the value of drugs here versus abroad. Fifth is oddervious.

What ammo do the other ILXors chuck at these threads? (I basically only READ these threads on ILE).

Ah ok, interesting. I guess its possible her family are naty pasties, but perhaps she didnt know/wasnt involved and has been used.

S'all very Bangkok Hilton innit.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Edward: oh there have been numerous sarcastic comments from various (usually grumpy old-skool ILXers) who imply that we ramble on with irrelevant garbage, much like the this is the thread thing.

Would they prefer us to spread it out over 500 threads per week, or invade every second thread with our discussions? Instead of keeping it all inside one thread and minding our own fucking business? Curmudgeons.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Yeah exactly. That was why Di started these to begin with =)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh, that. Spam to them. Pillocks, etc.
Right. Is there anything fun on in Melbourne around the Queen's Birthday long weekend?

This is from me LJ post:

I dreamt I was dating a guy. This guy was strange - he had the manner and expressions of some kind of waite-rider tarot Fool, or wicked elf. It felt like he represented something bigger than just a guy I was seeing. Its a bit hard to put it all into words, but I recall being with him for some time, then him appearing one day with another girl and more or less rubbing it in my face mockingly that he was with this other girl, being a really arrogant bemused c**t about it. I was, of course, upset but tried to remain dignified to his face.

The next day/moment he came back, alone, and wanted to know, in a disappointed, almost sadly patronising manner, why I hadn't got more upset about the girl and fought for him, because actually he'd just done all that as a test, and I hadn't been up to the challenge or something.

I was *furious*. I hate it when people play stupid games like that, and I felt insane anger mixed with "but I love him" feelings.

Things then got strange, as he began to completely act the Fool, he was being rude to my parents, he was running around wherever we were naked and didn't care (and I was cringing in embarrasment). He was acting like an irritating teenage boy, all Jackass fuckface behaviour and immaturity. I was blisteringly angry at him for playing stupid games with me like this, and instead of wanting to try and reconcile that with the fact I supposedly cared about him, I lost it and decided he was a waste of time.

This dream really upsets me because of all the possible implications. I'm reasonably sure it hasn't anything to do with Nick (tho the naked-body part of the dream looked like him!), the boy in the dream was acting nothing like Nick. I'm pretty sure thats not it. The only other option, which I'm even more loath to accept, is that the irritating, immature partner whose stupid games I was totally fed up with...

...was me :(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Woah, that's bizarre.

By way of contrast, my dream was about a TV antenna.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

Is your new job insecurity/unhappiness the catalyst for this dream? It's important to analyse how you feel in dreams, rather than the symbology that might be apparent [I think anyway].

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Possibly. Working with my best mate is hard, because he's acting like a bit of a twat on the odd occasion, which is fine when Im not around him all day long but I am here, and it is getting a little bit disapointing/irritating. So that could be one cause.

Also tho, I'm feeling paranoid that I myself have been immature, annoying and like my mind's divided on how to behave, etc. It feels like that message was more internal, you know?

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could go see a Jungian analyst. That'd be cool.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 16 May 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Great dream Trayce. One to ponder!

This character sounds very tricksterish.

moley, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

Trickster! Yes thats the word I was looking for - not the Fool, tho the archetype is similar in Jungian terms isnt it?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

Hmmmmmmm you got me there.

I would've always said that in the Tarot the Devil was the Trickster. But now you've got me thinking. Hmmmm.

Would you call this character in your dream more of a devil or more of a fool?

moley, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

When you described the dream I was thinking of one of the Tibetan craqzy guru types, the ones who always, deliberately, try to get a rise out of you. Like the internet trolls of Tibetan Buddhism.

moley, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

pleeeeze Trayce can we start a new thread. We'll call it 'Sheepfuxors discuss Jung in learned tones', or 'Mongrels admit they are crap office workers engaged in the mediocrity of irrelevant chit chat'. Whatever it takes. I know, I know, I should find a new name and log in and get a new email account etc. I will, I promise, but just not right now.

moley, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

He was certainly a trickster - a sort of immature, naughty, bad boy, but also somewhat arrogant and patronising too.

Hahah yeah I guess it was kind of like a troll! =) My self was trolling me in my sleep!

Gah :/

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh ok ok start a new thread ;P

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, you can't. I can't think of anything!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

gawd bless.
