Darwinising stupid idiots = CLASSICK.

Uhhh....

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

As in, anyone stupid enough to do meth and suffer the consequences, well, I'm not gonna shed a tear.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Right. Because intelligent people never become addicted to bad drugs. And surely anyone who is uneducated about said drugs is an idiot.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

I once worked at this music shop, and there was a really cute girl that worked there. As it turned out, she was like 8 years older than she looked and used to use meth. And she didn't shave her armpits. The shop closed about a month and a half later and I went to new employment.

Dud.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

There's really not much of an excuse to being "uneducated" toward any illegal substance these days.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

dud (wow people are still scared of hairy armpits?? jesus)

(do people still say "hillbilly heroin"?)

etc, Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

Andrew, you know Im quite pro-drug. Meths one of the few I laugh at, like dickheads who chrome, because it is a shitty drug with shitty side effects, thats really all I meant. Drugs R great, but crappy dodgy cooked up ex-sudafed is a stupid idea. Why so defensive?

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:26 (twenty years ago)

My point I guess was - if you're gonna indulge, get one taste and indulge sensibly in something half decent.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

duddity dud dud

mike h. (mike h.), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

judging addicts in terms of which "sensible choices" they do or don't make is pretty lame

jones (actual), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

but hey we still have a consensus so far. "hillbilly heroin" = oxycontin here.

jones (actual), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:38 (twenty years ago)

All addicts are victims. No one is responsible for his actions.

puh-lease, Saturday, 14 May 2005 04:34 (twenty years ago)

It sure rots your teeth- apparently all the bacteria in the mouth of a tweeker are also high and they get to work destroying the enamel of your teeth with great vim and vigor- you can tell a lifelong tweeker by their dentures/bad teeth/million fillings in the mouth etc.

Addicts aren't complete victims but I don't think you can say its something they really choose either. In any case its sad to see people destroy themselves in that way (just as its sad to see people self-destruct in a million other ways)

Gee, well since it's only helping the AIDS crisis re-explode and spiral out of control here, I'd have to say it's kind of dud...and being HIV+ is more than just a "shitty side effect," wouldn't you agree?

Vichitravirya XI, Saturday, 14 May 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

My point I guess was - if you're gonna indulge, get one taste and indulge sensibly in something half decent.
-- Trayce

I have one taste, and I enjoy meth. Good for studying/partying/cleaning. Obviously dud in excess, but what inebriant isn't?

Just out of curiosity, what does it take for a drug to qualify as half-decent?

Seuss, Saturday, 14 May 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

Well thats a fair point I guess. Me - I dont touch anything that was probably cooked up in a lab somewhere, so I dont do pills, though Ive tried E a couple times, but mostly - nah. W33d, booze, thats all I'll touch. Just my opinion on all I've said ovb.

All addicts are victims. No one is responsible for his actions.

Don't be such a fuckwit, EComplex (who I've never heard of?). Presenting the other extreme does not an argument make.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Clearly Andrew, you have an agenda - I'm curious as to what it is, you seem pissed off with comments thus far with no rebuttal...?

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

meth is extremely dud.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Saturday, 14 May 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

People make mistakes and sometimes end up addicted to things they never thought they would be. It doesn't indicate intelligence at all. Incredibly smart people are just as susceptible to really hurting their lives as everybody else. Insinuating that people who do become addicted to crystal meth deserve to die for their mistake is in extremely poor taste. I don't know anything about Andrew's personal life, but I imagine he feels the same way.

Mickey (modestmickey), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Also, is it really necessary for Andrew to issue a rebuttal? Is it really necessary for someone to explain what is offensive about the idea that stupid people killing themselves on drugs is "CLASSICK"?

Mickey (modestmickey), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Meth is the duddest of duds. The last bar I worked at, pretty much the entire staff had gotten addicted, from cocktails to management. I wasn't going to get close to it before, but after watching them (hallucinating after week-long binges) I couldn't even begin to think about using.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Saturday, 14 May 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

The cock-shriveling part is really really dud.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 14 May 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

And as someone noted before, shit rots your teeth out too. Her grill was kinda busted under closer inspection.

Alan Conceicao (Alan Conceicao), Saturday, 14 May 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

1/2 the price of coke and lasts a zillion times longer. whats not to be classic? ill grant it takes a certain type of personality to ride through the come down and still want more.

"I have one taste, and I enjoy meth. Good for studying/partying/cleaning. Obviously dud in excess, but what inebriant isn't?"

OTM - the scrubbing ive done on meth left me with one very rusty fridge (scrubbed too hard) and the cleanest multi-animal house on the block. forget the forest, its all about the trees. and its gold for the socially awkward. doesnt make you nasty and sloppy like booze or nasty and paranoid like pot.

i guess the teeth thing depends on whats in it. i had great teeth through my meth years then some problems into the opiate years (primarily otc codiene, mind you).

sunny successor (katharine), Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

hmmm should i be a lil bit socially awkward or should i have a shriveled dick, poor mental faculties, a depleted bank account, and teeth faling out. tough decision.

sunny successor (katharine), Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

jones (actual), Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

alcohol isn't good for you either duh! but, at least for me, alcohol isn't as addictive and it takes doing a lot more of it than meth to have extremely negative side effects. plus, no one is going to arrest me merely for being in possession of alcohol.

()ops (()()ps), Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Phil the mechanics of anal sex while on meth are kind of eluding me. It just doesn't seem like it would work.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 14 May 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

My mother was, at different times, a meth addict and an alcoholic. Give me an alcoholic any day.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Well, if you are looking for a way to destroy yourself by destroying your mental and physical health, alientating your friends, estranging your family, and recklessly endangering random people through purposeless rage and vehicular assault, then crystal meth is classic way to have it all in one excessively expensive package!

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

"alcohol isn't good for you either duh! but, at least for me, alcohol isn't as addictive and it takes doing a lot more of it than meth to have extremely negative side effects. plus, no one is going to arrest me merely for being in possession of alcohol."

yeah, no one will arrest you for alcohol possession, but in my experience with people who like alcohol a little too much, maybe they should be. lord knows it'd give the rest of us a break.

it seems kind of useless to argue whats more addictive. heroin is addictive, speed is addictive, alcohol is addictive, pills are addictive, sex is addictive, sugar is addictive etc etc etc whichever one you let catch you is going to make your life a misery in one form or another. as has been said a ton of times already here: excess = resounding dud

sunny successor (katharine), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

meth was the only thing that caused people i knew to completely fuck up. well, excepting my friend that killed himself while on coke. so i also feel pretty negatively towards coke but meth gets the edge definitely.

plus as i recall it really tastes like crap on the throat

Vichitravirya XI, Saturday, 14 May 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

is it really useless? would you rather take a drug that was highly addictive, or one which was minimally addictive?

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

i don't know why we need to pretend all drugs are equal, cuz, like, they're not.

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

Meth sucks. I see Trayce's "natural selection" point, and I also see Andrew's compassionate viewpoint. I've been very close to people fucked up on meth and they are far worse to themselves and those around them than any junkie or alcoholic that I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot.

Being around methheads is enough to make you feel both points of view at the same time, which was always hard.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 15 May 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

"is it really useless? would you rather take a drug that was highly addictive, or one which was minimally addictive?"

are you serious?

i didnt say they were equal, i said that different addictions cause misery in their own different ways but its misery nonetheless. the title of the thread isnt "crystal meth addiction c/d". i bet if there were an "alcohol c/d" thread there would be a overall CLASSIC vote even though were all aware that alcoholism isnt pretty.

sunny successor (katharine), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

but my argument is that the ratio of meth addicts to meth users is much higher than alcoholics to alcohol users, ie meth is more highly addictive. if you don't think that's a salient point, than i don't know what to tell ya.

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

yeh I call meth 'the devil' now, an absolute blast when you get into it then it's very destructive very fast(a matter of days and weeks if you've got enough free time on your hands). Being 100 times more cost-effective and fun than coke=100 times more hell in the long run. Well, I don't know about that but I'd rather overstate the case(for myself if no one else)

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:12 (twenty years ago)

since i'm always going to want to alter my consiousness from time to time, my philosophy is to both keep the number of vices I use to a minimum and choose vices whose negative effects are the least severe. i've tried many drugs, but at this point it's just booze and weed for me. doing any others just isn't worth it, both financially and mentally. definitely don't need to do any more substances which could get me arrested, and don't need to do any more that will massively fuck up my mind and body.

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

my friend is addicted to weed. are you arguing that his "misery" shouldn't be put in a different category than the misery caused by meth or herion or coke addiction?

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)

Tracye, there are times I've felt exactly what you said, and I wasn't being flippant. Damn right, natural selection! Get fucked over by a meth-head and anyone else would say the same. I was almost killed by one. Killed, as in dead. So flippant or not I think there's a validity to your comment.

SPEED KILLS

m coleman (lovebug starski), Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Purely anecdotal, but I've known two women (one who I dated, one in my extended family) who have been in relationships with meth addicts. In both cases, the guy basically ended up flipping out and never really recovered. (In one case, the woman had to pack up her kids and flee in the middle of the night, because the guy had become abusive and was threatening to kill her.) Lots of drugs can fuck you up in lots of ways, but speed really seems to put the burn in burnout. It seems to fry circuitry irreparably in ways that even heroin doesn't -- recovered junkies seem to fare a lot better mentally than recovered speed freaks.

Anyway, DUD. When I want to clean my kitchen, all I need is a radio and a pot of coffee.

Anyway, DUD. When I want to clean my kitchen, all I need is a radio and a pot of coffee.

Not to get soapbox-y, but I'm with Miss Misery — my mother is addicted to meth, and even though she has been on other things in the past, the meth is by far the worst of the lot. I haven't seen her in months, don't know if she's OK or where she is, but the last time I talked to her she was a MESS. It's a gut-wrenching thing to watch — and I've dealt with addicts of other kinds as well, so I can compare to some degree.

I'm no angel — I like doing certain kinds of drugs, though nothing like when I was in college/high school. But you know that old, corny saying : "You don't do drugs; drugs do you"? At no point is that more true than with meth.

sugarpants: baby's face on football! (sugarpants), Sunday, 15 May 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

>recovered junkies seem to fare a lot better mentally than recovered speed freaks.

this is true, speed freaks do not come back.

I've lost several very close friends to meth, it's been 10 years since they were doing it around the clock. They still look 10-15 years older than they are and it's clear that the gaping holes in their personality are there for life.

The worst thing about this drug is the way it installs identical personality traits into a widely divergent group of individuals. You look around a room of tweaking friends and realize they're all growing the same twitches, paranoid reactions, and unreliable and dishonest strains, and everything unique about them isn't coming to the surface because meth puts the blinders on, it bleaches the personality straight out of you. It doesn't matter who they were, you can recognize users very quickly.

Everything in moderation is conceptually fine, & I had a handful of productive experiences with it in my invulnerable 20's, but it's no way to live.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 16 May 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

sunny, it sounds like you're trying to rationalize. if you can keep your use under control (and i don't know what constitutes "under control" with meth, since nobody really knows how much use it takes to seriously fuck a person up), then super. i really hope you do. it's just that meth and other drugs are way more difficult to keep under reins for extended periods of time. risk ain't worth the reward.

how could this not be classic?

The urgency for sex combined with the inability to achieve release can result in tearing, chafing and trauma (such as rawness and friction sores) to the sex organs and the rectum and mouth, dramatically increasing the risk of transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Crystal also causes erectile dysfunction (this is known as "crystal dick", though the term has more rarely been used to describe the extreme urge for sex experienced by many crystal users) which often leads people to decide to engage in receptive anal sex or fisting.

Phil the mechanics of anal sex while on meth are kind of eluding me. It just doesn't seem like it would work.

It doesn't make everyone's dick limp, in fact I've talked to a few guys who do it instead of coke because they say it let's them stay hard. And it definitely makes people's sexual appetites insatiable and that can mean letting a guy bareback because your ass-maw is ravenous. Also, I've talked to a couple of real-life bug chasers, both tweakers.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:44 (nineteen years ago)

I meant to say, their bug-chasing--purposely seeking to be infected with HIV (or other "bugs")--was a direct result of meth use, as it made them crave more and more extreme pleasures. One of the guys I talked to (at Cl@rk's on Cl@rk, for those familiar with Chicago) told me that he wanted to get every disease possible, and that he didn't want a guy unless he could give him a "charged load."

Ethan, you really could pull just about anyone on this thread taking a hardline anti-user stance on this thread and say a similar thing about them; I don't think there are many people on ILX who fall into a non-drinker, non-smoker, non-pot-smoker category and every single one of them is on a special trecherous high horse when they mouth off about the integrity or worth of users on any of the drug threads. Why single out Trayce other than you don't like her? That comment is really quite bitchy and unnecessary on her part but at least she isn't claiming that DRUG X is not at all addictive and actually makes you sprout magical fairy wings and give birth to only children that look like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt or whatever the hell was going on vis a vis pot upthread.

Allyzay Eisenschefter Pop You To The Extreme (allyzay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Ryan O'Neal, son Redmond booked on suspicion of drug possession
The Sheriff's Department says it was doing a probation search involving Redmond O'Neal at his father's Malibu home when deputies found the two in possession of methamphetamine.
By Andrew Blankstein
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

10:29 AM PDT, September 17, 2008

Ryan O'Neal and his son were being booked on suspicion of narcotics possession this morning after a probation search at the actor's Malibu home, authorities said.

Deputies found Redmond O'Neal, 24, in possession of methamphetamine while a vial of the drug was found in Ryan O'Neal's bedroom, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

The father and son will be held in lieu of $10,000 bail, he said.

The O'Neals were detained shortly after 7:15 a.m. during a probation search related to a case involving Redmond O'Neal. The two were taken to the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills station.

Redmond, whose mother is actress Farrah Fawcett, was arrested last year on charges related to carrying heroin and crystal meth while driving under the influence in Malibu.

He pleaded not guilty to drug possession and one misdemeanor DUI charge as part of a deal intended to help him avoid jail. He was sentenced to three years probation and $1,688 in fines for the DUI charge.

In another case from 2005, Redmond O'Neal was placed on probation stemming from an arrest on suspicion of methamphetamine and cocaine possession.

Ryan O'Neal, 67, was arrested last year on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after firing a gunshot during an argument with another son, Griffin O'Neal.

The actor told authorities that Griffin, 43, picked up a fireplace poker and started swinging it. Griffin grazed him four or five times and "aimed at my head, I ducked, he hit his own girlfriend in the head," Ryan O'Neal said at the time.

The actor said he fired a warning shot intended to scare his son.

The elder O'Neal was nominated for an Oscar for the 1970 movie "Love Story."

Deputies find 4 monkeys at Hawkins County meth lab

ROGERSVILLE (WATE/AP) - Hawkins County deputies investigating a meth lab on December 17 met with four aggressive monkeys.

Narcotics Unit supervisor Sgt. Chad Gillenwater said deputies smelled meth at the home of William Alan "Monkey Man" Givan, 40, of Whitesburg.

Inside the home they found methamphetamine cooking. They also found four monkeys Givan kept as pets.

The monkeys were aggressive toward officers and ripped the jacket of a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officer who was called in to investigate.

Officers turned the monkeys over to Givan's wife, who was not charged in relation to the meth lab.

Gillenwater said the monkeys were kept in an area that was separate from the meth lab and did not have to be decontaminated.

Givan is charged with manufacturing meth, possession of meth and marijuana, maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is free on a $25,000 bond.

In a sheriff's office report, Givan is quoted as telling officers that when they went in his home, "I'm going away for a long time."

The Tennessee Meth Task Force and a chemical cleanup crew disposed of the hazardous materials. The entire property is quarantined.

I live like 45 mins away from that park. Used to pass it all the time when taking shortcuts to work when I lived in that area. Was really infuriating that it happened (my FB feed was blowing up with people flipping out the day it happened).

I had kinda hoped it was an accident so that we could say "well it's been 3.5 millenia, shit happens", but this...man, fuuuuuck her.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 1 March 2012 05:07 (thirteen years ago)

like the park was called BIG TREE PARK. Kinda loses its luster now, ya know? And considering how little else that town had to brag about (I should know, I lived in it for 20+ years)...this really blows.
