beanz (beanz), Monday, 16 May 2005 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you.:-) If I really let myself go, I just start crying. I didn't want to start a tread because I figured I'm not part of the *regulars*. :-) Then I blabbed on Alex' thread and I knew Ned would start a thread. :-)) I'm VERY happy of course. I'm looking forward to the first echo (is that how you call'em in English as well?) so I know the baby's in . Everyone is now advising me not to eat for two. STOP IT ALREADY YALL! I know! Anyway, I was pleasantly shocked: we had been trying for a while now and almost given up hope. Now I discover I am four weeks preggers. :-))))))))) So from now on, if I make a mistake or whatever, I blame it on the hormones. heheh

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, the baby's in perfect health. duh. See, hormones are to blame! ;-)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Hope you've not been feeling too queasy! What stage do you get the first scan done at there?

all the best with it Nathalie.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

well done!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

How many young-uns do we have here now? Theres Charlotte, Douglas's bub, Teeny's on the way, Maria and Scott's, Emily's... and I'm sure I've forgotten some :/

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What stage do you get the first scan done at there?

Seven weeks. That's the first time I have to visit the gynaecologist. Seems a bit late to me but, hey, if that's normal, I'm okay with it. :-)

Eating chocolate? Oh brother, no, sadly not. My mom called from Japan for 22 minutes lecturing me about what to eat and what to avoid. It's sweet but I don't want to obsess over food too much. I focus on eating lots of vegetables, fruits and proteins. My iron level is perfect apparently (I was nearly anemic a few yrs ago). I also discovered green tea is *bad* cause it contains traces of caffeine.

I feel really good actually. But apparently morning sickness kicks in after seven weeks or so. :-) I'm only four weeks no, so enjoying that. :-)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Monday, 16 May 2005 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Eat lots of folate-rich veg :) Im sure you know this already, but dark greens are your friend, apparently :)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 May 2005 09:00 (twenty-one years ago)

congrats - hoping it goes smoothly for you.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 16 May 2005 09:30 (twenty-one years ago)

That's wonderful Nathalie - hope you have a happy and trouble-free pregnancy!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 16 May 2005 09:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, CONGRATULATIONS Nath :) :) Will be thinking of you often.

And now there'll be two people again in the Tom Barman fan club haha!

Jeff W (zebedee), Monday, 16 May 2005 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

nath, I was the biggest chocoholic I knew before getting preggo, and I have completely lost my taste for it or any other sweets. So maybe it will all work out like that for you! But every pregnancy's different they say. Just be happy when you can eat anything--if/when the morning sickness kicks in, you'll need all the nutrients on your side that you can get. I kept eating like crazy because it made my stomach feel better and also because I was afraid I would get worse and start vomiting (I never did). At 11 weeks I've gained 8 pounds--you're really only supposed to gain a pound or two in the first three months! I went to my first prenatal yoga class last night, though, and my teacher told me she gained a HUNDRED pounds with each of her pregnancies!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Teeny, I need someone who is realistic - my mom's obsessing over my weight, actually adivising me to lose some in my first term.

Jeff, we were already joking about purchasing some special tummy-phones so our baby can listen to all kinds of music. I think my hormones are really messing with my taste: I can't help listen to cheesy dance music! EEP! :-)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

My mum once told me that when she was expecting me she and my dad took turns in playing me music. From my mum I got Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Verdi; from my dad I got Stockhausen, Varese and Dolphy. Explains a lot, dunnit? ;-)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow! Well done & congratulations!

Of course you're one of the "regulars" here!!

Congratulations.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah nathalie, and I wanted to say I'm sure your mum will have a lot of good advice, but get your info from several sources--my boss who had a kid 23 years ago said that her doctor ENCOURAGED her to drink wine every day!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 16 May 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Every pregnancy is different - you might not get morning sickness at all. Don't fret about weight gain - eat well, stay active and watch as much bad TV as you can. Congrats!

Of course you're one of the "regulars" here!!

Yeah, I was about to say! None of this 'I'm not a regular' nonsense! :-)

Then I blabbed on Alex' thread and I knew Ned would start a thread. :-))

Manipulation! Pulling my strings! But hey it worked. ;-) (And you were right, of course, I kept thinking, "Gosh, I really should start a new thread, shouldn't I? Would she mind?....ARGH! Yes, I shall start a thread.")

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 16 May 2005 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

BABIES YES! CONGRATS!

(I'd hand out cigars, but, y'know, smoking.)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, wait - cigars are POST-birth, aren't they? My bad.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only just seen this. Congratulations!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Update: I don't think I'll survive morning sickness. I'm kidding but, christ, I hope this doesn't last another seven months or so. :-) It's been getting worse and worse. This morning I nearly (sorry!) threw up. Ah well, it's all for a good cause! Next week it's our first scan. I'll probably yell at the baby: YOU DID THIS YOU BASTARD/BITCH! ;-)))

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Saturday, 28 May 2005 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

if I remember correctly, morning sickness only lasts through the first trimester. The second trimester is the "feel good" time, so look forward to that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I have been researching this and you're right, Alex. It's only in the morning so it's not that bad. I just wake up around six all nauseous and start nagging to Thom. The poor thing. :(

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Saturday, 28 May 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently a few women will have it the whole time, but that would be unusual. If you're researching it you've probably come across all the usual advice - as you're taking that second trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night anyway, stop by the kitchen and have a little snack, keep crackers on your bedside table and nibble on them before you even get up. I never threw up, but I was nauseated through the whole day most of the time. Now that I'm 13 weeks, it's so much better.

Oh, one thing I read that you might not have seen (because maybe it doesn't have a catchy acronym in Dutch) is the BART diet: Bananas, Applesauce, Rice, and fuck I forget what the T stands for. Tapioca? Anyway, bland food is easier sometimes, although I always craved great greasy sandwiches full of dressing and cheese to fill that hole in my stomach.

Ginger can sometimes help, and there are also those wristbands with the little plastic button for an acupressure point that are supposed to help with seasickness--I've seen those recommended for morning sickness.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 28 May 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

good luck, nath!

We had our first ultra/echo (whatever you call it) today. We heard the heartbeat! We almost cried! We're happy (but still worried - duh!).

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Friday, 3 June 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

Tiny person!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, they've got all that space to grow into and then some. That first scan was such a relief to see, I think we too were ultra-nervous about the whole thing. Hope you can relax a bit now!

NickB (NickB), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

how many weeks are you now? I had my 12-week ultrasound last week and it was amazing--the difference between the scan we did at 8 weeks. There were arms movin' around and shit! Do you get another scan later? In the US, it's typical to get one at 12 weeks and one at 24 (I think).

teeny (teeny), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

and is your morning sickness any better/worse?

teeny (teeny), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Awww, how exciting!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

It's not really better, nor worse, but just constant waves of nausea. I don't care though, I know the culprit. ;-)) I'm apparently 8 weeks, which astounded me cause our doctor had said (2,5 weeks ago) that I was 4,5 weeks pregnant. Or maybe I'm just counting all wrong, I just know that the delivery date will be around 10 January.

I was soooooooooooooo nervous. I've just heard of an acquaintance she lost her baby (at nine weeks pregnancy). :-(((( I see horror programs everywhere. But I also saw my baby! Heard his kickass heart beat. :-)

Next one is set in three weeks - the day before we leave for NY - then, apparently, we'll see his *neck* (and the rest of course). :-)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Okay, our baby is now about 9 cm BIG. I was amazed we would be able to see the legs, arms and body. The tests were all positive. No higher risk for spina bifida nor Down syndrom. Next ultra is for 19th of July. Hopefully we'll be able to know the gender. :-)

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Sunday, 10 July 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

look at that face! how lovely!

you'll be able to feel it kick in a month or so, I think, I just started feeling it a couple of weeks ago but it was remarkably early--I think I was 17 weeks and they say you MIGHT be able to feel it at 18 weeks. It's just remarkable and a lot less freaky than I thought it would be.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 10 July 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

Woohoo to all the expecting ILXors again! I hope you have babies as healthy as my new nephew, who is about 80 hours old now and spent 30 blissed-out minutes sleeping in Unca Rock's arms yesterday.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Just saw this thread for thirst time: Congrats, Nathalie! Maybe baby would like that Buckingham Nicks you mentioned downloading--?

don, Sunday, 10 July 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

yay babies! what alex said about the morning sickness is true-i had it constantly in the first 3 months (nauseated all the time, not just in the am!) but then magically after about week 20 i felt great! then a few weeks later i felt like a bloated hippo and didn't want to move. don't worry about gaining weight. i gained 27 pounds, most of it in the last trimester, and although i know everyone is different, i never restricted any calories. eat for 1 and 1/2, maybe.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Sunday, 10 July 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Nathalie, just saw this thread. Congratulations, best of luck.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Sunday, 10 July 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

I have long ago given up trying to restrict my food intake. I have about 2,5 kilos max, but I don't really care about weight gain so much. It's all about the baby. :-) Just downloaded a catalogue so we can start thinking about decorating the baby room in the next couple of months. I'm probably crazy for starting so early.

We'll have another ultrasound on friday. I am nervous again. Very nervous. But I'm feeling movement. In the beginning I thought it was just my stomach *bubbling* or something similar, but of course it's our baby kicking to the beat of dEUS. ;)

Most amazing bit: we saw the BRAINS! We also saw the stomach, heart chambers, kidneys (with urine flowing through it!),....

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 8 January 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Don't rely on those storks. Sure, they look friendly and all - but they're complete pissheads. You'll get one with a hangover and it'll mix your baby up with somebody's elses. Bloody Storks, can't keep 'em away from beer.

So "pushing" it out the "old fashioned way" is best for all concerned.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

You mean baby knows all the words to the b-sides already?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Do you have any special plans for the delivery? At home? Hospital? Underwater?

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:25 (twenty years ago)

At home? No way! In the hospital with as many drugs as they give me. I was tempted to go without an epidural, but fuck it why refuse free drugs? :-)

Kerr, it really likes the last album better than I do. ;-)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:29 (twenty years ago)

You get free drugs? Right. That's it. I'm getting one too. Men can get pregnant by now, can't they?

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:46 (twenty years ago)

my friend tried everything possible to make herself go into labor and nothing worked. do NOT drink castor oil! anyway, she was like you... everyday someone was like 'wow you've dropped! it's gonna happen any day!' and she went through almost a month of agonizing over when he would come. he finally came the night before her due date, and it went so fast, she didn't even have time for an epidural, but she said the pain wasn't even that bad because it was so fast, and she doesn't even remember a lot of the actual labor. so... there's hope! if she's any indication, you will have a quick and easy delivery. good luck!!

tres letraj (tehresa), Sunday, 8 January 2006 19:21 (twenty years ago)

nathalie, i know it sucks for you right now, with a big ol' baby crammed up your vadge but let the little one arrive when it wants. you'll be dictating its comings and goings for the next 20 years anyway!

Is alles goed gegaan?

Maria :D (Maria D.), Monday, 16 January 2006 05:13 (twenty years ago)

Pssst, Maria:
kaizersnede = keizersnede (Kaizer is German, keizer is Dutch)
contractions = weeën (the plural of "wee". also: contracties)

Go Nath!

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 20:36 (twenty years ago)

how long do you stay in the hospital in Belgium? In the US you get two days for a vaginal birth and three or four for a c-section.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 19 January 2006 12:44 (twenty years ago)

The average is about 5-6 days. (or so it says here on a the site of a local Belgian hospital site I just checked)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 19 January 2006 12:50 (twenty years ago)

(other hospital in the same city: "6-8 days, on average after a first birth")

ROFL! Yes, I went into labour on the 15th. Early contractions were very weak and actually sorta fun. By 2:30 am it was apparent I had to check into the hospital. About 20 hour of labour later, together with some procedures to hasten the process (making effacement, breaking the waters) and an epidural (fuck pain, it was just too much and too long) I had the baby in about 8 minutes! I had the bestest time EVAH. I highly recommend having babies! Superfun. I had to stay five days in hospital. I went mental the last day or so cause I couldn't leave the room/hospital. Now I'm home. WHOOPEEE.

The baby was DRINKING?

I'm calling the authorities.

ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!! (ESTEBAN BUTTEZ~!!!), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 06:25 (twenty years ago)

She weighed 3,780 kilos so not too far off the 4 kilo prediction. She was 53 cm which is very long for a girl.

I'm sleep deprived and already tired as a result, but one look at Ophelia and I know it's all worth it. :-)

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 08:03 (twenty years ago)

She weighed 3 tonnes!?!? :o

But seriously, congrats, and she is adorable indeed :D

(
In numbers , and . are swapped over here (for us, it's swapped everywhere else, obv.)

2.500 = two thousand five hundred
2,500 = two and a half
)

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 08:53 (twenty years ago)

We use the colon in that way too in Finland, but two thousand and five hundred would usually written without a period - we use spaces to make long numbers more readable, like one billion would be written 1 000 000 000.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 08:59 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I meant "dot" not "colon".

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps it's a difference between Continental Europe and the Anglo world, like with pounds and miles and stuff.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 09:02 (twenty years ago)

Now that you mention it, that dot is only used sometimes over here too.

(damn. I'm going to notice that difference everywhere now, aren't I?
