Last Saturday was officially the First Day of Summer, at least as long as the weather was concerned, so it's time for a new thread. Here's me and a friend at the beach on Saturday. Later on, I got my cleavage and face promptly sunburned.

I remember meeting Steve from The Chemistry Experiment in Glasgow once and he looked very familiar and I couldn't work out why and then ages later I was looking at photos from London and he was in them, so I must have met him and forgotten about him. I think I must have met emily too, you look familiar.

Tuomas-world must be a totally weird place to be. And those pictures of jel and maria tessa are the best ones yet, and they are the two people whose photos I always like best.

I can almost sorta see where Maria is coming from, but I don't really think that Gravel Puzzleworth's pictures look much like anything Cindy Sherman would do. If anything, it just seems more like fashion photography that has a second or third generation Sherman influence. As someone said, Sherman's color work was nothing like this, and her "lo-fi" early black and white stuff had WAY more going on, both in terms of subtext and design aesthetic. It's a little like saying that anyone's lo-fi demo immediately sounds like Slanted & Enchanted.

Also speaking as a person who saw a bunch of those early Sherman prints in person within the past few weeks, I promise you that her stuff was never that grainy. In fact, her stuff isn't that grainy, and when it is, it's due to limitations in skill re:exposure, yielding problematic negatives. But content/composition genius trumps a perfect print any day of the week - talent almost always womps on the ass of technical virtuosity.

Slightly smaller version of the same pic - it was taken in the apartment I rented in Poble Nou, Barcelona for the Primavera festival. I wore it around the festival site and it's amazing how many friends you make if you wear a silly hat.
