I haven't been able to log into Gmail now for 7 or so days. I'm getting very frustrated. I do a lot of pseudo-important things online, business related and now I can't access my e-mails. I've tried just about everything. POP3 access with Opera, I tried logging in with 4 different browsers (firefox, ie, lynx and opera) including https://mail.google.com/mail/. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem and it seems to only "attack" people at random. Some of my friends have accounts. My second account works fine, but my first one is BROKEN. It's not even that full, grr. I've tried from multiples computers on multiple IP addresses. I've cleared SSL state, I've cleared my cache and my cookies on all the browsers.

I'm about to start making 1000 phone calls. Sure, I'll be polite and nice and stuff, but damn it, what's going on? (Yes, I know it's a BETA. Yes. I know.)

one month passes...

Tried to send a big (not massive, less than 2 meg) file on Saturday and since then it's given me that message when I try to log on.

"Server Error

"Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

Tried using IE and netscape and other people's computers. No joy. Is this a temporary glitch or is part of my soul now permanently owned by google?

I've been getting lots of slowness and "wait a sec" errors. This is of course the part where they've achieved their objective of getting everyone's mail in vast unkempt blobs on their servers so that no matter how annoying the service gets, it would be way more annoying to try and salvage the important stuff and move elsewhere.

any mac dudes out there using the new-ish version of google notifier (1.9.65)? the "compose mail" option seems to be knackered ... which in turn means that, more irritatingly, mailto: hotlinks don't work. i click 'em; fuck all happens.

if i change my default mail application to (the old and obsolete) gmail status.app, all is good.

what else? er, firefox is my default browser. but i don't think that matters. have e-mailed them a bug report but just wondered if anyone else was having the same problem.

I've been paying a small annual subscription to fastmail.fm for a while, because they offered IMAP. Now that gmail has it, the only real reasons not to migrate are that I don't want to change my primary email address and I don't really like Google being in charge of all my online affairs.

IMAP properly syncs them. If you read something on the web, it gets marked read in your inbox. If you archive something in the client, it gets archived on the web.

Go into your settings, do you have a "themes" option? I think it did announce itself in big ugly blarty colours though.

Mine turned all blue and weird looking at some point this afternoon and I kept looking for a themes button but it didn't show up until seriously 10 minutes ago

It seemed to switch at precisely midnight last night for me (UK). I've settled on the new default for now, though I did like the ninja one.
