Saturday July 9th - TRIG BROTHER FIVE (feat. added Ned)

Saturday July 9th is our planned date for Trig Brother V.

If you don't know what TB is, it's a central London pub crawl with evictions (the evictees get sent back to a central 'home' pub which gets busier and busier as the day continues, and which then hosts the final vote). There is a remarkable prize for the winner. It's usually very good fun, and I say this as someone who's been evicted first.

So who wants to join in? We need 10-12 contestants and we already have two in the form of NED RAGGETT! and I believe Matt DC. If you've played before, that doesn't matter, you can play again. If you haven't played before, we'd LOVE you to play this time. If you want to spectate, come along too.

The day's events tend to be very drunken, but not as competitive as they probably sound. By the evening things turn into a normal FAP, albeit quite a well-soaked one.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

One thing that is maybe worth pointing out: this is NOT a drinking game.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Yes! People - including my wife! - have played the game and really enjoyed it with not a drop passing their lips. At no point will anyone be required to get drunk. It just seems to happen.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

This is the day after the club night that Marianna, Ken and myself are putting on, which I'll create a thread for today if Sonar-related stress doesn't get in the way. Hopefully I'll be able to join in, though there are negotatiations afoot to do some paid DJing in Brighton too...maybe I can put that off til August.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

How do people decide the evictions?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 09:58 (twenty years ago)

At the start each contestant writes down 'questions' for the contestants, and these are pulled out at random before each nomination and answered round the table.

So that gives a basis for nomination - evictions are usually decided based on who gets most nominations, except of course there are TWISTS. A tie might be referred to the already evicted contestants back in the base pub, for instance. Last year we asked a member of the bar staff to nominate in one round (sorry Anna).

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

And here's me thinking that TB was an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis which typically affects the lungs.

(sorry tom, like martha stewart i couldn't resist, carry on...)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

Note, I don't believe this to be a canonical Trig Brother as I will not be there to share the wonders of minestrone, have mystery T-Shirt changes or other foolish comedy errors I have made in the past.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

What, good sir! What prevents you from joining us? I weep.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

I should point out that as well as this not being a drinking competition its also not a popularity contest. You stand or fall generally on answers to your questions (or through rampantly unfair Trig Brother 'twsts').

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

it is three years since i have participated (moving house last year, a wedding the year before that), so i think it's time to throw my hat back into the ring...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

i shall be keeping my hat on

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

But what shall be the make of the hat, sir? This is important.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

To remind people of the fun that has been had in previous years....

most people have fun, but some people take it far too seriously

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

'not a drinking game'...

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, it's not professional.

Jel and Al should be a two-headed monster, like on Sesame Street.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Hahahaha, brilliant. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Last year we asked a member of the bar staff to nominate in one round (sorry Anna).

-- Tom

Now you say sorry. NOW!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

I wasn't even in that "we", I dunno why I apologised - I'd been evicted twice by then :(

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Last time I was nominated to play, but in the end, I couldn't because I had to record that day. This year, I will have to PLAY A GIG the next day. But can I play anyway? Anna? You already said you couldn't rehearse on the Saturday. So can I play Trig Brother?

Because I stand by my aspiration TO BE THE FIRST PERSON VOTED OFF!!!

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Actually it did prove the power of my face of evil.

I won't be able to play this year or Kate will shout at me for drinking too much before a gig.

HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHA x-post!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

If you two don't come and play I will be sad. (But just drink fizzy water or something.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, Anna and I should play against EACH OTHER!!!

(And both try to keep each other from drinking too much to ruin the gig the next day.)

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Anna really should avenge her shoo-in-to win if it was not for evil Rumanian bar staff eviction. I still think we should have asked her who looks the nicest (ie has the WORST face of evil).

I will be in Spain taht weekend so cannot take part. I am sure Tom was keen to get his own back on us for last year so book time away. I will be running Hell's Bouzers though in August.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I phear to ask, but what is Hell's Bouzers?

Also, I would like to be at this.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

(of course this depends if you believe anything pete says, just don't open the large cardboard box i'll be carrying around with me all day is all i say...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

In time-honoured Trig-imitating-Big Brother tradition is this the year we all act like complete cunts to one another, have a fight in every pub and then throw Ned in a bin?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm in! You can evict me early for not making any of the FAP's inbetween :(

I plan not to be evil this year, though it's hard to resist, it's prozen by science that I'm less nice in real life, but it'll be nice to see you all again.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

(I'm in, if that's okay, I mean)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Plus, it's good to know which shirt I wore last year, so as not to be repetitive.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

This will not be the most evil trig brother ever, it will be the fluffiest. We will have to break away from our "imitating BB" rules I think.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

It's simple sympathetic magic: Ned dead in a bin -> no Death in a Bin the next day.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry Ned we are not going to leave you dead in a bin unless you fail the task have no fear of that!

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

TWEE RAGE!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Now I have the fear.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

I wonder what I was doing there, it's a funny picture though!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

That side picture of me is good, I like it, you can see the strands of grey.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

are you participating Starry?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I dunno! I feel I should try if only so I can try and lose with GOOD GRACE at least once! :)

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Screw that.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 15 June 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

No but really!

"I thought all my competitors played the game well THE TWO FACED BASTARDS BITCHING BEHIND MY BACK THEY WERE JUST PLAYING THE GAME THEY WERE ALL SOOOO FALSE OMG ONE ONE ONE"

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

"Ned is a snake."

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I would never play you false. Even as I backstab my way to the top.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 June 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I know nothing. I may be in work frenzy, but my work is OPPOSOITE THE FREEMAsons HALL SO PLAN IT WELL AND I CAN ADMINISTER THE MI WHILE IN THE BOOZE.

This would porbably make miore sense if I wastched the BB but I don't. Sorry,

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Thursday, 16 June 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

What time is this kicking off? I'm thinking about coming down, but not sure bout trains etc...

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

i would come...... i would be a complete stranger though so might not.

sexless, Monday, 27 June 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

shy newcomers might be overwhelmed by the amount of people in attendance who already know each other. otoh it could be the best way to get introduced, depends on what you're like really. maybe there could be a 'warm-up' FAP prior to it, to ease yourself in (esp. if you're thinking of actually taking part). It's a bit 'organised fun' tho innit.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Always the best way to break ice though innit. A bit of participation in an organised event takes care of never knowing when to try to get into a coversation between people who already know each other.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

Drinking yourself insensible is definitely the best way to break the ice

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Well, once you've vomited all over someone I think you're that bit closer to them, eh?

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 27 June 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

it brings a little bit of you into that persons life.

sexless, Monday, 27 June 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

A little bit of spew, more like.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Monday, 27 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Just please aim away from me, I'm a delicate flower.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 27 June 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Family business means that I won't be at this after all :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

Neither will I. I am off to T In The Park for work-related reasons. In all probability I will spend most of the weekend crouched over a laptop in a hotel room.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Aw. :-( A pity to miss you both!

Can I request, if the time has not yet been nailed down, that it start a bit after lunch? I'll be meeting a friend for an early lunch, probably around 11 am to noon; not sure where yet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

In previous years we have assembled after lunch, yes (like at about 2ish) and that has seemed to work fairly well.

People who have played in the past and used Trig uv as a way of getting to know some of London ILX have enjoyed themselves very much (I think).

Tim (Tim), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Excellent. :-) Yay the plan!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

This sounds like such a lot of fun. If I were in London that day (which sadly I am not) and if I weren't so painfully shy, I'd have loved to join in (esp with the lure of added Nedness).

You'll post pics though, won't you?

C J (C J), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Painfully shy, CJ! I can't believe it, you are a woman of sauce. :-) Besides, the painfully shy have attended before, just come and observe with a drink and all will be well.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll try to come out for this. I could even play, I guess, although matt made it scary by saying:

its also not a popularity contest. You stand or fall generally on answers to your questions

I mean, a test of how clever and/or funny I am is much more intimidating than a test of how likable I am.

JimD (JimD), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

The thing is set up such that it ends with everyone together in the pub anyway, so people who don't fancy playing are encouraged to pitch up at the pub later in the day, and hang out with the various observers and evictees.

Playing is better, though. Honestly.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 1 July 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Playing is fun, don't be afraid. You don't need to drink either. It's best to choose a current BB contestant and pretend to be them for the day.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

I don't know anyone but would rather like to join in. I can bring a couple of friends too.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 1 July 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Tissp we'd love to have you.

Tim and I plotted this year's extravaganza at lunch today. We can honestly say that this year Trig Brother is going to go to places it has never ventured before (whether we mean literally or metaphysically you will have to discover).

However one thing remains the same:

THE BLUE POSTS, Newman Street will be where the game starts at 2.30, and it will be where the game ends, at around 7. After that it's just another FAP, all welcome.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I'll be able to make this after all due to DJing commitments by the sea :(

When will the next one be?

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

The next one will be next year. Unless we have a CELEBRITY VERSION!!!??

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh and we've planned for 10 contestants beginning the game, if anyone wants to play but won't be able to make the 2.30 start then there's generally room for late arrivals.

That's a shame Lex :(

Rick are you playing?

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:29 (twenty years ago)

It's best to choose a current BB contestant and pretend to be them for the day

Why would anyone want to be any of the current Big Brother housemates, even for one afternoon?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 July 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

In my case ignorance is bliss since I haven't followed anything about the show this time out (the threads just got too huge too quickly for me to read!).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

bah i shall miss this

however it is in a good cause: sistrah becky is impersonating the LADY MAYORESS and openin the VILLAGE FETE in the village where dad lives!!1

then we all roll flaming cheeses dipped in tar down onto a ducking stool occupied by a wild green wickerman while edric and the wild hunt swoop doiwn from the welsh hills on hobby horses made of lead quarried before the romans landed

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Flaming cheeses! I want.

Mark, question -- will you be back and free for an early lunch on Monday the 11th, say? My flight out of Luton to Glasgow is at 4 pm; I was thinking somewhere near King's Cross station around 11 am. I will of course be back at the end of the month. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

ned i THINK i am back on sunday night but i am not the driver so i will have to get back to you (i will know by tue morn)

if i am back i will be at work on mon which is v.close to kings x

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

Rah! There is goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 3 July 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

So who are the players, then? Did I make the cut?

(Sigh, probably not because I've never even watched an episode of Big Brother in my life.)

Or does one just turn up and start whinging?

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 06:56 (twenty years ago)

You don't need to have seen BB to play. In my experience the final 10 is worked out according to who turns up in the first pub, although people who've asked to play in advance usually get in. If you haven't played before you'll definitely be in.

I think Jim should play as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 July 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

so lets see, who have we got then?

Matt
Ned
Kate
Me
Jim
TISSP?
Jel?
Rick?
any more girls at all?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 July 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

Oh great, a sausage party.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 07:51 (twenty years ago)

Ha, you've been waiting a month to use that one!

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

Sarah?
Steve M?
Liz?
Rob?
Barima?
The Spy?

Kate you are definitely in.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm not playing.

Will three people enter the game a few rounds in via the beer garden?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't wanna be the only girl in a sausage party!

Except it doesn't really matter anyway as I aspire to be the first person kicked out.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

I kind of fear playing, but might grow an ego by Saturday.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

Something else I meant to say is that we've tweaked the format so the evictions start a bit later, to avoid the unfairness of some people's games being over before they even really begin.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

I think Starry was up for playing again. I am not sure if I am accustomed enough to sobriety to take part w/o the aid of beer.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

Go on go on go on go on go on. It will let you be tactical and all.

Anyway one of Team Davina isn't drinking either, maybe two (I am not sure of Chris' beer status)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

Eek, I'm not sure if I can hack being a contestant or not! Is it difficult (read: will I have to appear INCREDIBLY INTERESTING)?

Also, I know a couple of people who want to spectate too.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 4 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

I think I will play too.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

tissp, it is no more difficult than sitting in a pub.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

I believe that Peregine might play. I shall play and try and lose with good grace. I might also keep it light on the booze. I have the horrors again :(

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

tissp, it is no more difficult than sitting in a pub.

The one thing I've ever been successful at in my life. I have found my new calling!

Count me in, then. Also, I've been out of heavy drinking practice for some time, so I could be amusing after a few.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

I also fear playing but I'll probably be along to observe the action if not ruined by dancing the night before.

robster (robster), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

I shall have to be good on the booze front, as I shall be playing a GIG the next day (even if I have to play it all by myself) and cannot have a hangover.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

I shall play and try and lose with good grace

In my absence, I am counting on you to throw my share of the strop. Someone has to strop anyway, it's not good telly otherwise...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

Trust me, I shall strop if I'm not evicted first!

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

If I lose I will blame it entirely on the fact no one knows me and spend the rest of my days cursing the ILX clique, or more specifically, the fact I'm not in it. Oh yes.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Taking sides: No One Knows You vs. "Everybody HAAAAAAAAATES Me" (which is my excuse no matter what ends up happening).

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Is it necessarily taking sides? I plan on executing both as a reason to strop.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 4 July 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

So it's

Matt
Ned
Kate
Carsmile
Sarah
TISSP
Dave Boyle
Jel

with two other places to be filled by... Jim? Liz? Rick? The Spy? "Peregrine"? AMAZING MYSTERY GUESTS?

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 July 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Nothing to do with Trig Bruv, but does Anna being at T In The Park mean no Shimura Curves action the following day?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 July 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

I might see if Stevie Chick is crazy enough to join this roustabout. I believe he was planning on attending, at least!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

i think jim should play, he'd be good at it.

i think i'll probably wander over to the blue posts at some point that day...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Shimura Curves will still be playing on Sunday, albeit a perhaps stripped down version.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Don't say stripped!

Anna (Anna), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

I shall not be playing, as I would undoubtedly charm everyone with my combination of wit and good looks, and win again, which would hardly be fair.

That Peregrine (alix), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

are there rules about previous winners taking part again, or just guidelines?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Peregrine, it's looking grim.

I will insist on being called "Lucretia" for the duration of the pub/my first sip of BEER you decide. Going for the 'Scary Mary' vote. Did you see Saskia's exit interview where she claimed Mary had cursed the house?

BRILLIANT STUFF.

PS I am South Beached Whale as well so will be on the green drink/sparkling water, LAME eh. I expect the anti-teetotal lobby will conspire against me (or I will give IN and be voted out for lack of willpower OH NO)

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

oh dear

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

whoops

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Everything will have finished by 10, Ambrose, and so you might well pick up a few drunken stragglers.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 4 July 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

I am hoping that there will be no drunken Scallies at the Windmill to demand us to strip... :-/

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

(Am I allowed to use the word "Scally" or is that also classist, racist or otherwise bad?)

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 06:40 (twenty years ago)

Retarded question, probably, but I take it just a Zone 1 Travelcard will see me through the day ok?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

Yes, all the pubs are within walking distance of Oxford Circus tube.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

Rock. If we're still struggling for contestants, there's a chance that the couple of people I bring along can be press-ganged into doing it. They crumple easily like that.

I got this email earlier:

I'll almost certainly come along, but I think I'd make a better spectator than contestant. You and Ben, on the other hand, I suspect would be catastrophically well-suited to this kind of game.

Which is truly the greatest compliment I've ever received.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

This year, as in previous years, we'll be allowing spectators along for the first couple of pubs only. Then they'll be invited to return to the place from which we start out, and watch people return. Or maybe they'll decide to go and do some shopping, or something.

The point being that some of the places we end up going to are a little restricted in terms of space.

Just so you know.

(The idea that one year we might do a long-distance Trig Bruv which does require tube use is one which we've vaguely discussed from time to time. It's an interesting thought, but ultimately one which carries greater risk of drunken disaster. Also I don't much want to pay for people's travelcards and Trig Bruv is set up such that it need not cost a contestant any more than the price of any food or drinks they buy.)

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

You mean, whoever ends up as the players, we are *stuck* with them with no relief? Aaarrrgggggghhhhh!!!

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Wait, no, none of this matters - I'm going to be the first person voted out!

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

also: remember BB's blessed hamburglaresque saint SANDY, who left in his own time and at his own speed over the roofs of the big brother compound

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

I thought we would be able to play this without ever having seen or even understand BB!

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Yes, it is always possible to WALK though courtesy suggests letting Davina know.

(xpost glossary to Kate: "WALK" = "resign from game". "Davina" = "svelte host of Big Brother, replaced in Trig Brother by two fat blokes")

In terms of food (on at least one TB a contestant has purposely angled for eviction so as to go and get a burger), there is one task which involves going off and finding things and there's plenty of time to pick up a bite to eat then.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

I think I might like to take part.

Will Raggett be there from the start?

the pinefox, Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Hello people. I have decided I am person enough to deal with TB minus booze, so count me in.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

ned i am back on sunday night so mon lunch is a goer

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

latest odds (to win) from Paddy Power

Matt: 7/1 (chances possibly marred by other side of brain not participating)
Ned: 33/1 (surely the jet lag...)
Kate: 7/2 (reverse psychology is a powerful thing...)
Carsmile: 8/1 (housewives favourite)
Sarah: 9/1 (if she can reproduce her club form...)
TISSP: 6/1 (rookies do well in this bitch)
Dave Boyle: 6/1 (DARK HORSE ALERT)
Jel: 10/1 (the under-estimated underdog)
Pinefox: 11/1 (mysterious outsider)
Ricky T: 13/1 (worth a fiver)
Face Of Boe: 50/1 (might not let anyone get a word in edgeways)
Other: 10/1 (mum's the word....not to say someone's mum will be playing)

will Cabbage be official photographer again?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

Cabbage will be returning for the third (?) year of Dermot duties, I'm delighted to say.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

Nooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surely the denizens of ILX would not be so mean and cruel as to make me sit through the whole thing only because I've stated that my goal is to be the first person kicked out! That would be HORRIBLE!

Maybe I should have paid more attention to BB. What have contestants actually done to get themselves kicked out? Cheating?

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

I am thusly cursed.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

OK, that's our ten. We can accommodate other contestants, though, contact my freakytrigger at gmail email if you're interested. If one of TISSP's mates wants to play then one of the 10 who's played before can come in as a later contestant (rookies get priority).

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

Same goes for other people who havent played before too, of course. Or we could start with 11. We're easy.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

Surely the denizens of ILX would not be so mean and cruel as to make me sit through the whole thing only because I've stated that my goal is to be the first person kicked out! That would be HORRIBLE!

How long have you known these people? Of COURSE they will....

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Also Kate, last year the first person kicked out was summoned back at a later point in the game, and having drunk enough to kill a camel made a complete arse of themselves. I know because that person was me.

I'm not suggesting that it will happen again, of course.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:25 (twenty years ago)

You are making me not want to play now. :-(

Can I send The Spy to play for me, like I sent him to DJ for me?

(Though I think The Spy isn't talking to me at the moment, no idea.)

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

I remember you threatening to bring vengence down upon me for evicting your brother.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:27 (twenty years ago)

This thread is making me progressively more scared of taking part.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Kate (and TISSP) it will be fine! Honestly, despite the "pre-match build-up", we specifically set out to make this one more fun for everyone no matter when they get evicted.

(I would like the Spy to play too, he is always good value.)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

Still disappointed I can't be there. One year I will win. Oh yes, I will.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Jim not participating deprives me of my secret hunch for winner...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

The Minestrone Incident is too firmly burned in our memories for a Baran victory to ever occur.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

A very, very long time.

Will Raggett be there from the start?

Yus. :-)

Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

as much as i love to come and watch sweaty old men get drunk in a pub i am off elsewhere sadly.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

You merely fear the drink.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

Old I might be, and sweaty, too. But a man? Never!

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Aw I miss Robbo.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

I am neither old nor sweaty. Well, OK, a bit old, and maybe a bit sweaty. But I def. won't be getting drunk.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

I just realised, it's me fourth time playing, I think. I haven't a prayer this year.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Where are we starting from btw?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Blue Posts Newman Street, 2.30 kick off.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

The original and (possibly) best. For those unfortunate souls who haven't been there before, here is a link: http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub1.htm

Assembling in time for a crafty drink and a 2.30 departure is the thing.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Yep, I'd still like to play. I'll come along for the start and if there's room for me, then cool, and if not then that's cool too.

JimD (JimD), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Jel, me and you are the old warhorses of Trig Bro!

We don't stand a chance!

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

as much as i would love to meet ned, sadly (for me)/happily (for everyone else) i will be unable to materialise at this gathering.

Nice one Jim!

So:

Matt
Ned
Kate
Carsmile
Sarah
TISSP
Dave Boyle
Jel
Pinefox
Ricky T
Jim

Anyone else?

x-post: sorry we won't be seeing you this year, Marcello.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

well you know, tim, i famously had a panic attack about three minutes into last year's one and fled, so it's probably not a good idea for me to repeat the experience.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

I understand. We'll see you soon I hope.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

i'm going to try to make it, though not as a contestant. i feel like it's been ages since i've seen you folks.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

as much as i would love to meet ned, sadly (for me)/happily (for everyone else) i will be unable to materialise at this gathering.

A pity! Mr. Sinkah and I, as muttered above, were considering an early lunch next Monday, so if you'd like to join us (and if it is possible, given work!), it would be grand.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

i feel like it's been ages since i've seen you folks.

Damn right. Dunno what time I'll turn up yet - maybe not til late on, tho would be strange of me to miss the early fun. Last year's TB took place on such a hot day but it's probably gonna be rainy this weekend.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

I think my good host Stevie Chick was at least planning on showing up but as a spectator. Though I could be wrong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

This sounds great, and I'd love to come and meet some of you/watch you make arses of yourselves, but I have to go to the stupid dentist that day.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Come to the Windmill on Sunday, barbecue.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Mmm, BBQ.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Mmmmm, BBQ.

We have now discovered who ate all the food - THE DOG!!!

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

It's a really nice barbecue too. I am sad I can't be there (and not just for the food).

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

What is the best time to show up on Sunday, anyway?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

HORRIBLE DOG

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Our favourite gibbering weathermongs reckon it's going to be quite warm on Sat: http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=W1&day=4

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I would say get there before 6pm if you want to get any BBQ.

However, you may have to sit through some horrible local Lambeth bands.... actually, no, you won't. You can sit in the garden and eat BBQ so long as it's not raining too hard.

And it's not a horrible dog. It's quite a nice dog. Just an overfed dog.

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

is there any veggie food at this BBQ?

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Yes there is veggie food. You do have to ask for it, though. (And it will be cooked on the same grill as the meat, ugh, in case you're squeamish about that - I try to just ignore it.) Bean burgers with cheese, though, yum.

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

is there going to be sex in pool action a la big brother?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Ken. We will all jump in the Centrepoint fountains and lez up.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Where will you be Ken? What will you be doing?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

oh, my sides...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

I'll of course be there on Saturday, but I don't think I am in the kind of strong mental state to ask for a late-entry slot or anything like that for TBV itself.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

Barring TISSP turning up and being a stone foxx, I'm not lezzing up with anyone! Bah!

Hate to disappoint you, Kate, but you probably wouldn't appreciate the beard. ;)

There is a remarkable prize for the winner

Hey, I never got a prize for winning last year! Ohhhh, I geddit - taking advantage of the foreigner, eh?

I bet poor stevem is still plotting revenge for the strategic ousting he received last year, which was kinda my doing. *evil laugh, rubs hands together*

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I gave you a mix CD that includes Color Me Badd, Young Disciples, Marky Mark and The Waterboys. Ahhhhhh, sweet vengeance...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

MIS Information (kate), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 06:32 (twenty years ago)

Is there room for another girl in this sausage party? I've failed to participate in this thing for three years now, and that should be rectified.

Kick off one of the boys! I want Liz to play!

MIS Information (kate), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 07:19 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah Liz! There will be room for you to play.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Nobody will be forcibly removed.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 07:54 (twenty years ago)

Kate, the competitive element of the day wil probably be over by 8, if past experience is anything to go by. somewhat inevitably the drinking will go on until we are shoved out of the BPNS and i look at boyler and say "where *can* one dance to all the best 90s indie on a saturday night" and BADNESS ensues...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

Yep, we've planned it so that it's finished by 8.

Liz - no problem.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

*sings* You just keep on pushing my love over the Borderline! BORDERLINE!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Feel like I'm going, to lose my mind.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:18 (twenty years ago)

Bah, I won't be able to experience that badness. It's Kissing Time At The Pleasure Unit. (I wonder if that cute, cute DJ who played all the girlpop will be there.)

MIS Information (kate), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

Wassa matta you HEY gotta no respect!

(much better than boring Madonna!!)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

This all sounds bemusing. (I already passed on my regrets to Catty that I likely will miss the Kissing Time, partially since I fear the combination of drink and remaining jet lag will put paid to my soul and body.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

I am trying to work out how to spend the day getting drunk enough to be a bit silly throughout the course of the game and yet still sober enough to go to my friend's party after the pub and dance all night. This will be a tricky one...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying to work out the optimum amount to be sociable and silly, but not have to endure some kind of fiendish nightmare train journey of paranoia and suffering on the way back.

Also, I don't know whether to shave my half-beard off or not.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

so this is what Ned Raggett will be doing rather than spending time with me on my birthday. verrry interesting

Vichitravirya XI (Vichitravirya XI), Thursday, 7 July 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

*hic*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 July 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm going to come to this at some point, I've decided the best way to stand up to Islamofascists is to get pissed as an infidel and shout "Kiss my royal Irish arse!" at full volume

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

I don't mean to be insensitive by bringing this up so early, but what's going on? Are we postponing?

Obv, if transport is still fucked come Saturday I won't be able to get down and play... :(

Of course, if Ned can manage to get there, I guess I don't have much of an excuse ;)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

gosh now I'm just worried abt your safety when you're over there! the tube will probably start running again just as you're leaving. what awful timing, alas

Vichitravirya XI (Vichitravirya XI), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, tissp!, I admit I was going to ask...

No worries, Vic -- without sounding too horrible, I am only spending just the weekend there, and less activity may actually mean quicker jet lag recovery for all I know. Very small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

TB5 will go on. Might have to change the route.

I'll still hopefully be playing as long as I can get back from Manchester which will be ok I'm sure. Ireally want to spend Saturday in a pub enjoying the company of the people I spent a part of this morning wondered whether they were alright.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

dave and dada otm.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Well said. :-) Then roll on TB5.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 July 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Someone's going to win TB5 but it won't be the fucking terrorists.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 7 July 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

They can do their worst, wheras we will do our best to sink lots of beer. Getting pissed on Saturday's in summer with orgafun is exactly the way of life we're fighting for here.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 7 July 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, not sure if I'll be there, I'm shaky on public transport at the best of times. Sorry dudes :(

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 7 July 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

It looks like KX will be shut on Saturday--any suggestions on how to get to Tottenham Court Road? Please don't say the bus, I hate London buses.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 7 July 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

We'll see what the situation is as of midday tomorrow and then decide whether to change the route or - if we don't - issue travel advice.

Sounds like a plan.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

Right. Hello everyone.

We are still meeting up, 2.30 in the Blue Posts Newman Street. What happens when we meet up I'm not sure. It may very well be just a few beers and a nice chat with friends, we'll all decide when we're there.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I still want to go and meet up, but I really don't want to be called a fun-hater for saying that I don't really feel much like playing a game at the moment.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

Exactly.

Yah mo b. there

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

yes i think the important thing is that neither group should judge the other so those wanting to be silly should respect those just wanting to chat and vice versa, which i'm sure would be the case, but y'know, just saying like...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

With the best will in the world, that won't happen. Just saying like.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i think i might change my plans tomorrow (plans? what plans??) and come along to this 'cos i think it's important we carry on with this because THAT'S WHAT THE TERRORISTS WANT TO KEEP US ALL COWERED AND SCARED and also because this weekend is i think not one for being alone.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:47 (twenty years ago)

see you guys, at the blue posts.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 8 July 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)
