Conspiracy. I shall trust none of them again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 June 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I was just thinking about Clarke and charlie today. Have they really disappeared from the board?

Richard, or Raymond, or something, Carmody.

Brad Pitt, Saturday, 18 June 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Robin Carmody was celebrated in his day.

youn, Saturday, 18 June 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

I can’t tell ya baby what went wrong
I can’t make you feel what you felt so long ago
I’ll let it show
I can’t give you back what’s been hurt
Heartaches come and go and all that’s left are the words
I can’t let go
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time, let me know
If you really want to go

Don’t know what you got till it’s gone
Don’t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It’s just this song
And it ain’t easy to get back
Takes so long

I can’t feel the things that cause you pain
I can’t clear my heart of your love it falls like rain
Ain’t the same
I hear you calling far away
Tearing through my soul I just can’t take another day
Who’s to blame
If we take some time to think it over baby
Take some time let me know
If you really wanna go

Don’t know what you got till it’s gone
Don’t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It’s just this song
And it ain’t easy to get back
Takes so long

Do you wanna see me beggin’ baby
Can’t you give me just one more day
Can’t you see my heart’s been draggin’ lately
I’ve been lookin’ for the words to say

Don’t know what you got till it’s gone
Don’t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It’s just this song
And it ain’t easy to get back
Takes so long

Don’t know what you got till it’s gone no
Don’t know what it is I did so wrong
Now I know what I got
It’s just this song
And it ain’t easy to get back
Takes so long

i don't know! i met her once. she came to a chicago fap in nov. 2003, and then was never heard from again.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 June 2005 04:53 (twenty years ago)

someone should write a book about the Obscure Ilxors

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 19 June 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

does anyone else feel terrible that they can hardly remember any such folks? of course maybe that's by definition. i remember marianna and toraneko and rainy but they weren't really obscure.

whatever happened to robin carmody? he worried me.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 19 June 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

i think he still shows up now and again

Todd Swiss
Wintermute

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

Then there was some poster called Mei who I thought was a girl, but wasn't.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:17 (twenty years ago)

i'm not the one to say whether or not he's obscure, but todd swiss is not from the past.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

likewise i don't know if colin s barrow is obscure or not, but where the hell is he? has he confined himself to the mongrel threads? Q14 REPRESENT FULE.

oops (Oops), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Is Todd Swiss still around? I don't think I've seen him post here ever since 2004.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

He posted to ILF yesterday.

j4n (Wintermute), Sunday, 19 June 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

colin s barrow = music mole

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Sunday, 19 June 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

whatever happened to robin carmody? he worried me.

IIRC some poster had said that they'd spent a day in the country which was spoiled by someone breaking the chilled vibe by playing some raucous hip-hop. RC posted that he was a racist on his blog and named him too, cue much name calling, requests for apologies/retractions which never came (or took a while to do so). RC vowed never to darken our door again and that was the last we heard from him.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Sunday, 19 June 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

well, if he's going to stay stupid things like that we're prolly better off without him!

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 19 June 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

I like Robin.

Delia, Sunday, 19 June 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Just because they're from new zealand doesn't make them obscure, amateurist!! rainy just posted the other day!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

i could never figure out if may pang went away or just started using another name.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I liked Robin too, but he was hardly 'obscure'. What about Gail whatshername, she was like from another planet, and oddly endearing.

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 19 June 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I wanted to nominate Gale too but I figured I'd come across as a moron (thinking everyone knew who she was). Robin was nice, I liked him.

Gale Deslongchamps!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 19 June 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Also, donna (not Donna Brown)? Has she posted recently?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 19 June 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Yup, irregularly but she is around.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Man, complete brain fart there, I missed the paranthetical part. *That* donna seems to have gone quiet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Clarke and charlie introduced me to ILX after the Bitchpork board kind of fell apart. Clarke still pops up like once a year on ILM. I haven't seen charlie post in a long time but we emailed a few months back, he's in grad school and working with Anth0ny Br@xton, so I am proud of him.

n/a (Nick A.), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Is the other Donna same as Donna Lorelei? Also, wasn't there another Nicole besides the more prominent Nicole?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Nichole G - she's getting her own flat soon, after a long while of unsettled poverty, so might be back online regularly again.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 19 June 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Yeah oops, Colin is around as music mole/moley. Also Rainy does indeed seem to have re-appeared.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 20 June 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

ah i knew he became music mole but just didn't make the moley connection.

oops (Oops), Monday, 20 June 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Nichole G - she's getting her own flat soon, after a long while of unsettled poverty, so might be back online regularly again.
Do you mean Nichole who posted on TITTWIS Martin. If so I haven't spoken to her for such a long time. I hope she comes back online soon.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that's the one. I talk to her on AIM sometimes.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

Jon Cannon and Geordie Racer spring to immediate mind. Also Chris T-T who uniquely among ILXors said he was quitting the boards and stuck by it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 June 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

Mei's still around, Tuomas.

rainy (rainy), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

I certainly Nichole Graham now that you've mentioned her name. I don't think she was that obscure.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

I met Nichole G once at an FAP. She was luvly.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

"certainly remember"

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

whatever *did* happen to g (grayson lane)? his were some of the most earthed and thoughtful posts, I always thought.

quidity, Monday, 20 June 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

nichole "britbabe" had a really nice manner. One of several folks who I wish wd still post here. Robin Carmody was one of my favourite ILM posters when I first encountered the board. Nude Spock did come back, but under a different name. I could probably think of a few people who I don't see around here anymore, but w/all the name changing shenanigans, probably half of them still do!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 20 June 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

i remember him comin back to say goodbye but i have been away lots so his goodbye may have been premature

mark s (mark s), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

I think Wintermute was a real mystery; s/he posted quite actively for a year or so, but never revealed much of his/her personal info (not even his/her gender or where s/he lived, I think), and then suudenly vanished without a trace.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

for some reason i think of wintermute as male, real name Dan?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

Er, you (general you) know that in Neuromancer the book, the AI called Neuromancer is one of two, and the other is called Wintermute?

(I didn't know we had a poster called Neuromancer)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Neuromancer was briefly around early on, when it was just ILM, on the Greenspun server.

Dan I, whose email starts w/wintermute is still a regular if infrequent poster, I think?

The other "Wintermute" also posted as "Sommermute", "Herbstmute" and a few other names. I think he was German, he did post a pic of himself at one point. He was pretty funny/pithy, and used images, some of which hed made himself in a clever/insightful way. I wish he still posted here.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

God I'm a fucking saddo.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

why is it sad to miss people?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

four years in august that's why

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

erm that looks like a sillier question than it is

mark s (mark s), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

i meant "missing people doesn't make you a saddo" obv

mark s (mark s), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, I remember that he at least understood German very well, but his syntax seemed like that of a native English-speaker (unlike mine, for example). Never saw a pic of him though. And I felt he was a nice and thoughtful poster too.

Wasn't there a poster called Chupacabra who was from Latin America and was, like, fourteen years old or something?

And whatever happened to Burmakitty? Aja still posts here. I remember people getting fussed up (never got why) due to some underwear pic of BK's, did that make her leave?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

I don't really remember Chupacabra -- but that made me remember Francis Watlington, who lived in Puerto Rico, I believe.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I remember Chupacabra, he was a little older than that IIRC. A big synth-pop fan? I remember him turning up on AIM a bit about a year/18 months ago.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

There was also some googler girl who got here through the "Hair Dye Advice" thread, and started posting to other threads as well, but I guess in the end she found us a bit too, er, "intellectual" for her.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Does Allison still post on the Dave Matthews threads?

it's amazing how little i actually remember about the other ilxors, both the "obscure" and well-known ones. i think i'm basically "talking" to myself anyway. hi self.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 03:53 (twenty years ago)

well if the concept of self can be expanded to include a rotating gallery of a few other folks, let's do that.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 03:54 (twenty years ago)

at the same time, there are some posters that you have a better memory of than i do, even though you've only been posting for about two months longer than i have. for example: felicity. i know she likes baseball, but other than that, i have very little recollection of what she was like on ilx. she didn't really make an impression on me. (no offense to her, of course, i just wasn't paying attention!)

I was Nancy Drew. I was going to say so on the stealthmoves thread but then I said to myself, 'whoever would remember that old Nancy Drew?' Also I wasn't really being stealthy, more shy.
I still have the gimlet eye of a girl detective (and a magnifying glass and a tube of coral-coloured lipstick). And I still love rainy. I'm glad you've reappeared! And hello to Leon C too!

A funny thing, but since I changed my name from 'Colin S Barrow' to 'music mole' / 'moley' people have stopped treating me like a pretentious twat. It must have been the 'S'.

I have never stopped acting like a twat, gaz. All that changed was that my name became more disarming.

andrew palmer left to run an "adult mag"!!

You're implying that ILX is perhaps too immature for him?

(Well, actually, I don't see what doing one has to do with doing the other, especially since he was already in the adult biz before he started posting here.)

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Thursday, 23 June 2005 03:20 (twenty years ago)

Andrew Palmer in Auckland, yeah? Good feller.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 June 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Weatheringdaleson!

I know Lawrence Kansas still posts, though. I like them both. A good double act.

Hi Christine!

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 23 June 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I'm impressed with how many hits this one mention got. None of my own Webby mentions in t'past ever got so much interest. Very curious. (There's details on how to order my new comic if anyone feels daring and has PayPal.)

Hi, BTW.

_chrissie (chrissie1068), Thursday, 23 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Tico, I was talking about missing Ellie on another thread -- and a little google-searching seemed to imply that she's doing too well in her academic career to need the likes of us anymore!

matthew spektor - where he?

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 23 June 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

I still lurk!

matthew spektor, Friday, 24 June 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

We drag you into the light.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 June 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Hey Ned! It's rather like Jarvis Cocker, who says he sometimes turns up early [at Sheffield Train Station] and hides himself so that he can watch his friends waiting for him. I've been lurking for the same reason. I find that standing back for a while, simply observing, allows me to be re-acquainted with the qualities in my fellow ilxors I originally fell for. But standing back has made me notice negatives, too; you've been ignoring a newbie, for instance.

matthew spektor, Friday, 24 June 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm not really matthew spektor; alas, was just hoping to tickle him into contributing again.

But we also have those obnoxious ads for Barilla, which portray Italian men as shockingly handsome, great cooks, that love to help Wasp women out of a bind by secretly leaving a box of Barilla pasta on the window sill.

A VERY positive stereotype, with the blind opera guy bellowing in the background.
