Just to consolidate stuff on other threads:

There are get-togethers tonight and tomorrow for London ILX people, so if you want some human contact or a chat or just fancy drinking, here's the details:

TONIGHT - Freemasons Arms, Long Acre, Covent Garden, from about 6 I'd guess.

TOMORROW - The Blue Posts, Newman Street, from 2/2.30.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 July 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

freemasons will be from around 5.10 tonight then, assuming i don't knock off early as it's spitting distance from here.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm just heading over there as soon as work is done - given my bankers hours that might not be until 6.30/7 or so, but then again, it might be 5.35 as it is a block and a half from me.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

As an aside, I'm going to be in London from Sunday through to Wednesday.

I know that, out of the people I know on ILX, I've not seen any of you for a while, and you don't all get along with me very well. But in the current circumstances, it would be good to see some of you again.

(and people who don't know me can say "eek, I thought you were somebody else")

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

Forest Pines, I would like to meet you! OK, I'm going to be in Brixton all day for the Windmill Festival (a genuine Ancient Monument!) and then the Shimura Curves gig, but it would be great if you could make it down. Do you have my mobile number?

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

i'm off up-country tonight w.becky and her boyf and dr vick, so will miss y'alls tonight and tomorrow

much love and look after one another

mark s (mark s), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

eek I thought you were somebody else.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Kate: I don't have your number, and all the ILXor numbers I do have are about five years old. This email address works, though, if you want to get in touch.

(I am very much expecting you to say "eek...", because I'm not sure how much other ILXors have told you about me; and because noone on ILX knows much about how my life has been going lately anyway)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

I've emailed you, Droid. Unless you are secretly a scary stalker ex of mine, I would like to meet up! (Please do not give my phone number to any of my scary stalker exes that do currently post to/lurk on ILX.)

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm out of town until Sunday evening but best wishes to all of you.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:18 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking of coming in for Trig Bruv, but on reflection I think family stuff is where it's at this wkend. Will be there in spirit. Look after yerselves.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 8 July 2005 09:21 (twenty years ago)

May pop in early doors for a brief bond with the Carsmile, depending what time I knock off. Don't let me scrounge a fag if I do, Steve.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

But if everyone goes out on the randan tonite will anyone show up tomorrow?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Tomorrow is another day.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm not planning on staying out late tonight, just want to see a few familiar faces, so I'll be at both. Isabel will be coming out to tomorrow's one with me.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

I'd go to both but I have a major drinking and *carousal week ahead of me - liver and wallet must be handled with kid gloves

(*carousel?)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

(I've just realised that "randan" is probably a Scottish word that no-one knows the meaning of)

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to come to the pub tonight and see the couple of ILX people I know - would it be bad form to bring a bunch of people from another messageboard (Barbelith)? (This question not addressed to anyone who's already answered it elsewhere, I'm just a little wary of treading on anyone's toes at all.)

Flyboy (Flyboy), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

Is it the same as 'raj'?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

"tiles"

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

"town" etc

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

"toon"

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

its not bad form to bring other people, dont worry about that

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

(The only thing I'm worried about is that the FMA isn't very big... and may be filled with Freemasons.)

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

If in doubt, roll up yer trouser leg

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

randan = fandan?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

fandan = fancy a nice drink and natter?

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

"Will no one help the widow's son?"

Flyboy (Flyboy), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

it's generally ok in there of a friday, strangely i've never seen many freemasons in there, i think they tend to go for the one on the corner or the newton. certainly if we can establish a beachhead in the seats by the window not long after 5 we should be alright.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

if being a freemason is intended to be a secret activity, as a freemason you wd surely either AVOID this place or attend IN ADEQUATE DISGUISE

i have long suspected kate to be a full-on 33rd degreer (in very bold disguise indeed)

mark s (mark s), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

::quickly rolls down trouser leg and hides apron::

Actually, the Masons are incredibly easy to spot, and not trying to hide themselves at all, strolling around with various regalia and all their stuff in big briefcases - I was discussing with one of my colleagues whether the size of the briefcase was related to the degree of their Masonry.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

ooh i remember a discussion last week at a works drinks thing, apparently there are certain ways to spot a mason and one was that they would randomly join a conversation with some question.. i can't remmeber it now.. it's something like "so what's with this then" or something

ken c (ken c), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

i think they are hired plants

mark s (mark s), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

first attempt at that post: "i think they are hired pants"

mark s (mark s), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

I may be at the 'Masons Arms tonight.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

They don't look photosynthetic to me!

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

::bump for Ned::

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

*crashes into thread* FAP tonight! Yes! I can do this! Um, I think.

Am currently at Stevie Chick's place in Wimbledon and it's 3:30 pm. Somebody quickly post and give me a rundown on what and where and when I should tonight. I will be there! It would be wrong of me not to!

(Also, any advice as to why I'm able to pay for a travelcard but can't withdraw money from an ATM would be appreciated.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

what kind of cards do you have? is it a VISA or MASTERCARD? with those you can buy things from shops and stuff but for ATM machines you may need a MAESTRO or whatever logo the machines have on them. (one that matches what's on your card)

see you tomorrow, hopefully, ned.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Ned, if you are still having problems w/ your card. You can go usually go to a Money Exchange place and use your credit card to get money.

marianna, Friday, 8 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub38.htm

I'm not sure about the travel from Wimbledon, sorry.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

See, Ken, that's the weird thing -- I've used this same card here before without a problem! HMMM. I must ponder this.

Lex has just given me travel to pub rundown info.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

I may be along to this - I can't quite make up my mind what is the best option yet. I don't think I'll want to stay out late if I do show. I'll of course be early if I come at all.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Ned, when did you last successfully use your card in an ATM?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

And Marianna thx for tip. :-)

Um, quick question if it's not in bad taste -- did Liz report in?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

No not yet - check the long Explosions thread 2 where news will be posted first.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Ned, get the train to Waterloo, walk over Waterloo Bridge, and you'll be nearly there.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=530368&Y=181185&A=Y&Z=2

Pub's where the arrow is, Waterloo in bottom right corner.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Are you coming early doors, Ned?

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I was planning on it -- it's almost four o'clock now so I half wonder if I shouldn't wrap up things here and set out soon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

RickyT, thanx for tip but is that the best for me? The most immediate route right now is the District to Earls Court -- Lex suggested going to Embankment and then from there to the Leicester stop if Covent Garden wasn't available...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

It's much quicker going to Waterloo on the train. Tube takes ages and then you'll have to walk anyway. I used to live in Wimbledon and would only ever get the tube if I was going to West London proper. This way you get a nice walk over the river, if you feel up to navigating your way to the pub.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

If I was taking the District Line then I'd get off at Embankment and walk up to Long Acre, it's about a 10 minute walk and should be easy with the map linked by Ricky.

But I'd take the overground train if I could. Much more pleasant.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

covent garden will almost certainly be closed

delays on northern, due to security alert at waterloo

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Okay, dullard question -- would my Tube all zones day travelcard do any for the train folks or not? I assume you're talking about SW Trains at Wimbledon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

This map probably more useful as it actually shows Waterloo:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=530750&Y=180250&A=Y&Z=2

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Travelcard fine for train, tubes and buses. Except the Heathrow Express, annoyingly.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

should be ok thuogh, whichever way you go, but forget the piccadilly, and forget covent garden

piccadilly is running heathrow-hyde park, and then arnos grove-cockfosters, so nothing in central london at all

all day travelcard works on every mode of transport

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

With an all zones all day travel card, you can go on anything. Busses, tubes, trains, trams, possibly even some riverboats.

x-post

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

*makes mental note* Right so -- best option is SW Trains from Wimbledon to Waterloo and then walk as described above using second map. Correct? If so, then I'll be en route shortly. Happily Stevie has a printer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, last map had arrow in wrong place due to stupid Streetmap bug

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=531250&y=180250&z=2&sv=531250,180250&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&ax=530360&ay=181182

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 8 July 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Though if you don't want to walk from Waterloo there's probably (actually, definitely) a load of buses from the station that go to Kingsway, from where you can then walk down Queen's Lane which I think then magically transforms into Long Acre. At least, that's what the map I looked at earlier seemed to suggest (I'm walking to West Norwood and getting a 68 from there to Kingsway - that likely to work?)

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could come down to meet the Ragster and share hugs with you all. Have a fine evening and take care.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Yes, you can walk by my office if you do that, Ned! (And drop in and get a mortgage if you fancy, heh.)

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

WBS, the only "problem" i can see with that is 68s are probably terminating at aldwych, so you'll have to walk up kingsway, only add 10 mins to your journey if that.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

Ah, OK, I've done that before. I'll probably be with you around 6-6:30-ish.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Whoa, I'll pass by Kate's office? Crazy! Pity you can't escape early.

Okay, clarity more or less being mine, I'm about out of here and will be there by 6 pm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

They weren't terminating this morning... or at least the 59s weren't.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

oh ok, cool. i assumed they wouldn't be going up southampton row is all.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm still mulling over whether or not to make it out tonight. I've been at my parents' place all day and don't really fancy the trip into town, but I'd like to see Ned. Will he be out tomorrow?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

to the best of my knowledge, yes.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

aRGH, F*CKING HB0S for dumping the most annoying and difficult query on my desk at 5pm on a Friday afternoon. B*stards.

(OK, technically it looked like it came through earlier but I was working on another more difficult query at the time.)

Ha ha, however, I have sent back the most difficult and technical questions about the query that he will never be able to... ARRRRGGGGHHH, how could he get back to me that quickly?

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

ned, if the pin for your atm card starts with a zero then you'll randomly have trouble using it internationally. strange but true.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Phew! Astonishingly, I managed to finish the Scottish Query in record time, and now I think I can leave! See some of you in the pub. And some of you tomorrow. Stay safe.

MIS Information (kate), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

I think i might trundle along tomorrow. Can't do tonight now - maybe could have if I could access the fecking ilx page at work.

Well, noone will recognise me if I turn up tomorrow, so hopefully ned will be there so I can find you's.

3underscore (___), Friday, 8 July 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Hope to see people tomorrow. Good lord am I already feeling hungover. Must sleep.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 July 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Not yet, Ned!

I Named Veal (nordicskilla), Friday, 8 July 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

how did he get home before me, he was still deep in discussion when i left...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 July 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

we walked to waterloo, presumably the overground train was faster than your bus or whatever? we stayed for almost 20 mins after you, as well!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 8 July 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

It was nice to see people last night - it will be nice to see people today, too.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 9 July 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Guys, I'm not sure what to do about today. I don't know any of you personally, and although I'd love to meet you all, I'm not sure under the circumstances it would be the most jovial of meetups.

I take it most people are still going to the Blue Posts for 2.30, but has there been any kind of concensus about what exactly's going on today?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:11 (twenty years ago)

Can someone let Ned know I still don't know if I'll be able to meet him at the airport on Monday? Feel free to give him my mobile number, anyone who has it, but I'll update the Ned in Glasgow thread with plans as soon as Glasgow has plans for me to work towards.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

What's going on today: sitting, chatting, having a few drinks. Obviously the circumstances are very difficult but I think most people out last night appreciated the company and I'm sure the same will be true today.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

We'll go and get the train shortly then. Hopefully we'll be there on time, but we might be slightly late depending on transport conditions. I've sent you an email, Tom.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Scratch that, yr email is bouncing.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

replace hotmail with gmail and it should get though tissp

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:53 (twenty years ago)

Cheers Steve, just found that on Freaky Trigger. I've sent it to the gmail one instead.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Yeah sorry, I should get onto Noodles to let me change that email.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 9 July 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa, got it, thanks -- something will suggest itself! I'll talk more about it on the Glasgow thread.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

It was good to see some of you yesterday, but I don't at all feel up to making it today, for the obvious reasons. I guess if I change my mind later I can call/text someone to see if you're still at the BPNS. Similarly, if I'm at my PC and any news appears on the board I'll call someone - I have several numbers for people who I expect will be in the pub.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Martin, you'll be welcome anytime of course.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

Very good to see you last night, Martin, and to see everyone. Hope to see as many of you as can make it today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

Thanks everyone for coming out.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 9 July 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Yes, nice to see those who came, and to meet tissp and tripleunderscore for the first time.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Adding to that. A good day spent out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

A great night, it was. Great to finally meet a load of people. We've only just got back home, though! We missed the last train! My flatmate is not hungover, the bastard.

Also, Kate, he doesn't quite remember it but he apologises for talking nonsense to you all the way to Oxford Circus. And hugging you.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Sunday, 10 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, that's fine. It was the closest thing I've seen to "action" in about six months so I'm not exactly complaining. (I was more worried about you two getting home alright.)

It was good to see everyone.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 06:59 (twenty years ago)

It was indeed, to say it again. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 July 2005 07:02 (twenty years ago)

It was an important weekend for me in many ways, given that these were my first London FAPs in almost exactly 12 months, so I was glad that I finally managed to fight off my inhibitions, make my way to them and find to my pleasure that I felt neither claustrophobic nor uncomfortable.

The good Ned was a major comfort factor - obviously overjoyed to meet the man for the first (and second!) time, and he did not disappoint; a kind and generous fellow with a heart of pure gold, it must be said. And while it was also great to meet Dadaismus, Andrew Farrell and the lovely Mrs Ewing for the first time, and enjoy some proper and highly stimulating conversation with the good Mr Swygart, it was in many ways even more fulfilling and reassuring for me to renew acquaintances with regulars I hadn't seen for the best part of a year - Tom, Tim, Pinefox, Lixi, Toby, Matt, Carsmile and Ricky T among many, many others.

I was also quite proud of myself that I was able to mix and converse well without having to mention my own bereavement - so the weekend was a major factor in helping me to break that particular barrier, which I've been trying to do for nearly four years.

Obviously the spectre of the last FAP I did attend - which was in Oxford last autumn, and which had both Liz and Rob also in attendance - reared its head in my mind, and like everyone else here, I remain worried sick about them. I thought of all the FAPs, Club FTs, Poptimisms etc. that they had been to during my long-term absence and realised that I need to do this sort of thing a lot more often, instead of taking people for granted and imprisoning myself in my own stupid self-inflicted torture.

Therefore I am going to make a point of attending these events in future whenever I can, because we've already lost Nick K this year, and God willing Liz is still with us, but I don't want to lose any more people who should be proper friends instead of simply being on the other side of a computer screen.

So from me it is genuine thanks to everyone for the weekend - it was exactly what was needed, and not just by me.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 11 July 2005 07:58 (twenty years ago)

Marcello, please understand that I am in no way trying to start any kind of trouble, but that is the most positive thing I've heard you say in a long time.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

M - *hugs*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

Marcello, I thank you for the kind words, and if my presence did help anyone else, then I'm even more moved. I admit I feared I would seem far too happy go lucky given the circumstances.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

It was a fucking treat to meet you Marcello, by no means entirely because it's nice to see someone else recognise the Tiger Feet Dance.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Aw, bless you, Andrew!

Ned, I think happy-go-lucky was exactly what was needed in the circumstances, and I was more than grateful for it.

Sorry I didn't manage to get around to saying hello to you, Kate - there were just so many people to acquaint/reacquaint myself with - but many thanks for your kind words here; much appreciated.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

(I was more worried about you two getting home alright.)

Well, we managed to stay at my friends' flat, but it was a nightmare and a half getting there.

We went from Oxford Circus, my brain melted at Euston and we decided to stay on the tube to KX, which obviously was closed, so we had to go to Islington, hop platforms and go back to Euston, and walk to KX.

We had a coffee and a baguette at KX (and boy did Chris need it by this point), before I realised that there was no train to Cambridge on the boards. I was on hold to rail enquiries for ten minutes to be told that the next train was a ten past six.

We rang up my friends, who told us to go to theirs. It was 12.25am at this point, so we RAN back to Euston, and just managed to get the last tube to Finsbury Park, all the while Chris having absolutely no idea what was going on, happily running and leaving nonsense on people's voicemails.

At Finsbury Park we messed about trying to find the bus to Crouch End, but the entire place looked very different to what I was expecting in the dark, but eventually we hopped on the W3 and set off.

At this point I kept vaguely recognising where we were, but kept losing track of it shortly after. It was only after we started going up a big driveway I re-recognised the place...

...so from that point we bailed off the bus and proceeded to walk back from Alexandra Palace to Crouch End. I think we turned up at my friends about 2am.

It was worth it just to hear Chris constantly mumbling, "I DONT UNDERSTAND LONDON"

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

Also, to Marcello and a few others who were there, I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to you all, I was overwhelmed a little by the entire situation. Hopefully next time.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, I'm so sorry... I was going to give you my phone number and tell you to come down mine if you couldn't get back (I have a huge house where many out of town ILX0rs have crashed) but was, erm, distracted.

I'm glad that you're home alright now. It was fantastic meeting you - even extremely drunken Chris was actually hillarious. Look forward to the Cambridge FAP now.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

Meh, it's all good. It was great to meet you too. I will also look forward to the Cambridge FAP, and if you're ever up for any other reason, don't forget to let me know.

How was the gig btw?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

Weird.

Technically it went well, it sounded good, we were well received and all that.

It was just a bit weird playing.

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

Fair enough. We were going to come and see you, given we were in London still and none of our travel tickets counted for shit anymore, but we didn't have a change of clothes and it would not have been pleasant for anyone else involved.

PS This coffee/chocolate combination thing you mentioned is fucking great

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

I have just posted up photos of the Shimura gig on my myspace blog and the Eurotrip thread...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

Really good to be among people on Friday, and meeting Marcello and Ned was fantastic.

Sorry I didn't make it to the Shimura Curves gig Kate, was intending to but ended up falling asleep in Brighton.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 11 July 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

TISSP, I don't think anyone would have noticed your smell, due to the overwhelming smell of BBQ (and dog)! Ah well.

Thanks for posting the photos, Ned. Rah!

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Yay the rah! And all that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 July 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

After much technological messing about this morning, I have finally got the picture I took off my phone.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 09:49 (twenty years ago)

I had a good long think about going out to the pub on both days but in retrospect it was definitely the right thing to do. Nice to meet Tissp (sorry I didn't get to talk to you as much as I'd have liked), and 3underscore for the first time. Sure we'll see you both again.

Sorry I didn't make the Shimura Curves in the end - I ended up sitting in the park with friends and then going back to my parents again.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 11 July 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

The disturbance in the middle would be me apologising for twatting WBS by accident.

It was also great to meet tissp and ___ and tissp's friend Chris, who needs to be imported into ILX quickly.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:00 (twenty years ago)

'Tis cool Matt, I'm sorry I didn't get to chat at length to you too. I'll definitely be up for another FAP at some point. Like everyone else, I wasn't sure about coming, but I'm more than glad I did. (xpost)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

so nice to see everyone, though as always i didn't get to speak to as many people as i intended to and didn't get to meet the new people. i had to leave early-ish, which was probably very fortunate as it meant that i didn't spend sunday with a hangover.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it was nice to meet 3underscore and tissp and my new best friend chris (that's what he told me, so i'll take it)

glad you managed to get home andrew! i was worried heathrow would be a nightmare when i heard about arrests happening out there...

colette (a2lette), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Colette, I think he told everyone that... :)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

great. now i'm going to go home and cry.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

And I thought I was special...

OK, I was special, I got "I'm not trying to pull you... honest..." ::grab:: ::lurch::

(I knew that it was only because he could not actually stand up and needed to hold on to me in able to actually walk, but still. It's not every day you get to skip down Oxford Street with hott indie boyz singing the theme from the Wizard of Oz.)

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

OMG I FORGOT THE WIZARD OF OZ!!!

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

Also, "hott indie boyz"!

I am going to print this thread out and frame it in the living room.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 10:59 (twenty years ago)

Do you remember everybody trying on each others' glasses?

(Ha ha, sometimes I love being the only sober people in a room full of drunks.)

MIS Information (kate), Monday, 11 July 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

I remember Dadaismus looking on in good-natured bemusement during that, a stance he applied with some success to a lot of the things that evening. Though his good nature nearly faltered when it looked like none of us sassenach bastards wanted another drink afterwards.

Also we checked the internet the next day: a Tromboon is the reed and mouthpiece of a bassoon attached to the slidey part of a trombone. It is a comedy instrument.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 July 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

Bah! Fuck you Hex so-called Appeal.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 July 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Ha, yes I remember the glasses. If I remember correctly Sarah = My Glasses and Chris = Kate's glasses. But a different colour.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

I'd only had a couple of pints due to being on the fizzy water earlier. Only person sober Kate?! Gee. I'll have you know that the glasses debate has been going on in my life for years, and all of you lot are bloody SPECCY FOUR EYES.

Hottt indie boiz! Arf.

Tom I quite liked Hex Appeal, it was one of the best out of a lot of stinkers. We should do the Champion next time which still has Dr Fox.

Anyway, nice to meet people who I hadn't met before, especially mentals who came all the way from Cambridge. But then again if I came from Cambridge I'd even go to menk meetups to escape from that zone 7 horror.

ISN'T IT.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

I found Hex Appeal strangely addictive to be honest, I am only pretending to hate it because I secretly love it so. "THINGS YOU FIND IN A SHED".

Isabel enjoyed meeting the people she hadn't met and seeing the people she had. She doesn't post here but I thought I'd pass it on.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 July 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

"THINGS YOU FIND IN A SHED"

knowing this game as I now do was the answer in fact 'MY UNCLE NORRIS'?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 11 July 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad you all had such a fulfilling time - I do wish I'd been able to come and meet those I haven't met, but I just can't face socialising right now. I'll come round soon I'm sure. I hope tissp, stevie c and ___ (and others) are around next time.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Hex Offender was considerably better than Bob Holness Takes your Money. Though Scottish Surnames oh dear oh dear schoolboy error.

Hang on, I was sober.. oh yeah, right. I was sober in bits!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

OK, I was special, I got "I'm not trying to pull you... honest..." ::grab:: ::lurch::

was Chris singing The Streets to the tune of Wizard of Oz?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Chinese takeaway = EVERYTHING WITH CHICKEN

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Quite possibly, in his own mind

xpost

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 11 July 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

yay for isabel, i really enjoyed chatting to her, she's so much fun and really lovely. she should come out more.

i also have to say that seeing all the boys (including MC) standing up to try 'more' magazine's suggested dance moves for boys was one of the high points of my evening...you fellas are all such good dancers.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

sorry to intrude, but just wanted to ask if there were there ever any pics posted from Tom's wedding? if yes, must have missed them.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Please God let all the wedding pix have evaporated, or at least the ones of me in the false beard :-(

alext (alext), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

I have a few pics of cabbage's stags-and-hens do, and I believe cabbage has a few pics of mine, and I think some kind of informal weapons treaty holds as to their actual publication.

I have loads of pictures of my real actual *wedding* though - none scanned in. I could scan in one of the happy couple if people are that interested. There's pictures of the dancing afterwards but they look very much like pictures of Poptimism or Club FT, except with everyone in suits.
