It is my birthday, and I hate it.

Going to a very nice beer based restaurant with my parents and another couple their age as usual - since I don't have (m)any IRL friends and we've been doing this for like forever. Don't care much about missing parties and heavy drinking, I'll be having some very good food & not much of a disturbed biorhythm when I get back to work on Monday. Getting old, innit. :D

I've always found it really depressing and, for some reason, Auld Lang Syne makes me tear up.

keep in mind, we moved recently to a very small beach town that is in the middle of off-season. the town shuts down for winter and there are not a lot of options for going out.

My train of thought in these situations is that you always go out, and if you're bored of what's going on at the time, you can go back home and then the appeal of your first option becomes even more enjoyable.

My dad bequeathed me his house. Normally I'd invite people over but it is in no condition for that. I'm really sad about this. I actually love New Year's parties at clubs but they are too crowded and often full of young drunks.

New Year's Day in the US is so crap you're better off staying out all night drinking, it's like Christmas without turkey or mashed potatoes or presents or grandmothers but some crappy parade and a bunch of football.

going out properly tomorrow instead. no idea what to do tonight. my main aim is to avoid sitting around talking about how nye is never any fun.

hate nye hugely. auld langs syne is the worst, i really need to be somewhere where people don't sing that, it sounds like the end of a bad 00s disaster film where a meteor is about to destroy the earth, humans all weedy and badly singing together versus the fates.

A few of our friends home from other sides of the country, so there's eight of us (husband's three best friends from school and their partners) all going out for a curry then to our local pub (tables reserved in both!).

It's basically going to be a regular Friday night out, with slightly less chance of a taxi home afterwards :-(

The last several years I've just arranged it so I'm spending it with a couple of my best friends at one of our houses. That way we don't need to worry about taxis or wankers. This year we have one of my best friends and her husband coming over, last year the 4 of us went to another friend's house over in Edmonton, got the free tube/bus back to ours about 4am and carried on til sunrise.

I know it's not very glamourous but really it's the best way for us.

Also I am old.

We're stuck for baby sitters so no partying for us. We'll probably let the kids stay up for the bells then have a couple of drinks and complain about the telly being shite.

Tomorrow I'm torn between dinner at my mother-in-law's and having an all day boozing session with my dad's family. Not really torn tbh :)

I haven't had a decent New Years like...since 1998. yet I still feel obligated to have plans nonetheless, to avoid being the guy who stays home.

just spoke to a buddy about possible NYE plans and it sounds like it will be difficult. his bro is playing a show at a bar, and no one seems to know of any house parties. ugh. i'd host one myself but my place is small, and i'm a little nervous that certain characters will show up and trash the place. it's one thing dealing with difficult but endearing drunks on their turf, but quite another to invite them into yr home.

Xpost: ha, I just starting watching Freaks and Geeks for the first time a few hours ago (and that's how I'll be spending most of my NYE; watched that particular scene like, 45 minutes ago.

Our year was ace. My job was (and still is) utterly fantastic, we spent a month in Africa for christ's sake, we bought about a billion electronic goods to replace all the clunky old shit we used to endure, and exactly 47382827339483 other cool and awesome things. So of course we celebrated the greatness of the year by falling asleep an hour before 2011 ugh.

I had a very quiet NYE at home with N just drinking wine, eating and drinking. Hit a wall completely right on midnight so I hurrahed the new year with some sparklers and then went to bed. Sounds dull, but I've been up late/drinking/socializing non stop since xmas and I'm burnt out.

Since there's a reason I call NYE 'amateur night' I'm in sitting with the fam, watching the Doctor Who marathon ('Mom, the guy saves the planet every week, it's cool - no, the planet is not always Earth - now will you be quiet') while drinking a bottomless G&T. Ice pellets fell out of the sky all afternoon so most of MN is indoors tonight - nobody's on the roads. Five hours to go!

Great times! Disco tunes all night and some wild living room dancing. My legs are (marginally) more sore than my head.

Went to pub with some of my favourite people, listened to cheesy pub karaoke tunes, drank lots, had fun, we all left before the pub closed, didn't have to wait too long for a taxi home. Was basically like a good Friday night out with mates in the pub, with extra mates who aren't usually in town and more free food and drink.

A friend and I festively wandered through the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the ROM. Did you know the Qin army (a distant relative to the Kiss army) ran roughshod over China between 230 and 220 B.C.?

NYE actually not too bad this year. Went to my best friend's place where he had a bunch of people over. Two people ended up fucking in the guest room shortly after midnight and another puking off the deck. Pretty glad that wasn't me tbh. Home by 2 but with a sick puppy at 7:00. :( Really hoping I don't wind up at the animal hospital today. I've already spent two New Year's Days in the ER for myself (non-drunk related illnesses) and it's not fun.

Went to Alabama 3's NYE party at the Jamm in Brixton with gf + bunch of best friends. Unsurprisingly fairly lol old crowd and a bit expensive but as far as going out on NYE can be, it was very enjoyable.

This happened to me as well. Maybe I should have stayed perched atop the city by myself at the top of an abandoned school's east stairwell w/ a decent bottle of white wine - as I was when the actual year changed over - instead of trying to be social.

went to a rad house party here in atl w/ my brother's band & then the Grand Prize Winners From Last Year, a local band that could be huge, beats + guitars + rapping + horns, incredible, all in a kitchen at a house in Cabbagetown...still blown away by the awesomeness.

Drank a massive amount (two bourbon-and-cokes, one cosmopolitan, four glasses of champagne, and three-quarters of a 4Loko without getting a hangover or anywhere past half-drunk. Am worried about my growing tolerance for booze.

i can't drink as much as I used to as it impacts stomach acid issues that didn't used to be as bad. I kinda think it's a good thing. if this was 06 I'd have passed out from tanq and tonic
