this kind of seasonal sickness is yet another reason to get out of this country and find somewhere warmer. i imagine the midwest is knee deep in snow this time of year, even if otherwise you have my warmest sympathies mike. get well soon.

Gah, I get so drained and apathetic and listless when sick, even with this minor mystery cold/flu. I can't concentrate, I can't read, I can't think. I really want to borrow my buddy's South Park DVDs but her phone's been disconnected and I'm in no state to drive. Why is there no such thing as a chicken soup torrent?

I'm getting over a cold which turned into a chest infection and a bout of laryngitis, couldn't take anything for it.
And the morning/afternoon sickness too of course.
I feel like a bag of shit.

I'm home ill, "looking after" (LOL, I'm posting on the internet while Ava wraps a retractable tape measure round Tallulah's neck) two similarly ill kids while ill wife heaves boxes out of the shed (her preference over yet another day wrangling sub-3-y-o terrors).
Seems to be a heavy cold but with additional gob problems - could be onset of gum disease or related to the throat/sinus issues, but I have very gritty/sore/permanently dry mouth. Sorta miserable and I know I'll go in tomorrow (if I go in tomorrow) to 150+ emails and my colleagues will have got as far as item #1 on the huge handover email I blearily typed out last night.
Oh, look - Bobinogs is on!

My boss effectively dodged this same cold/flu by "sitting in a steam room for an hour, and then drinking Scotch to ridiculous excess."
I may try that this evening, but with bourbon.

I've been battling a cold THRICE for the past two months. On top of that my mum has/had pneumonia, my husband and oldest daughter also had colds and/or a virus. My dad also had a cold but only for a day or so.

after watching some nasty bug (a form of flu? who knows) knock out my wife and both kids over the last 3 weeks, it's finally my turn. at least it's gone sequentially so we've all been able to take care of each other. still. ugh. my first fever in at least a few years. judging from its observed course so far, i probably have two more lousy days ahead.
surely i amn't the only one ailing in the 2nd week of december. where my co-sufferers at?

― Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 12 December 2009 06:13 (sixteen years ago)

jesus...had a cold for last two weeks or so but it was just a bit of congestion etc, nothing major. then yday evening i just get this onset of shivers where i can't even move in bed without shivering, had to put on loads of clothes. sinuses ache, mouth is a bit swollen, and chest is a little sore which makes me worry about having pneumonia. didn't sleep properly at all, mind was just racing with sweaty delirious dreams.
hoping this goes away quickly as i have a job interview on friday and an audition for a play tomorrow.
― I see what this is (Local Garda), Sunday, 31 October 2010 12:45 (fifteen years ago)
if you had pneumonia, i think you'd know, you wouldn't be able to move.
i've had a cold for about 6 days now, aching head and hot and cold flushes, only thing to do is plenty of fluids and keep warm.
having a hot bath and getting into bed with many layers on to sweat it out always seems to work.
wish i still had a bath :(
― not_goodwin, Sunday, 31 October 2010 12:50 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i'm just being paranoid on the pneumonia issue i'm sure. hot bath sounds great apart from the effort required to get out of bad and get into one. might try eating something soon. ugh...

you definitely should go even if still sick! you might end up being better than you expect. I had a friend who would with absolute regularity get minor illnesses or injure herself before performances (she was in ~musical theatre~), after a while I started to suspect it was her way of not giving herself a chance to be nervous.

This sounds like what my whole family has had for the past two weeks. The doctor diagnosed it as viral meningitis (not the same as spinal meningitis, thank god). My experience with it was pretty brutal though. I really couldn't function at all. It would take me minutes on end to climb out of bed. My poor daughter had it too and had to be hospitalized for a few days. She's recovered now though.

My illness is less bad than everyone else's on this thread, being a v mild cold, but I've come here to complain anyway because along with earache I have incredibly muffled hearing in the left ear. It's been really hard to follow what people are saying today at work, plus music is a bit disappointing right now, and I like music to be the only thing in life which isn't disappointing. Y'know?
Get well soon, everyone.
― what is he like? the guy's a juggalo, man (a passing spacecadet), Monday, 1 November 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
get well soon too! I get blocked ears all the time, i sympathize. Feels awful. Doc says I have narrow ear canals, I usually have to get them syringed every 6 months. Which is gross, but hearing is so much better than not hearing...and earaches are the worst
― That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Monday, 1 November 2010 23:11 (fifteen years ago)
oh earaches and deafness are the worst, esp if you're me who is terrible with the thinking i can fix my ears by poking around inside w/ kirbygrips when clearly the problem is on the other side of the eustachian tube.
whiskey (in hot toddy form) is helping w/ the throat though not too much with the concentration tbh

Just came off a mild cold. Every single time I've been sick in the last 15 years has followed the same course- sore throat, runny nose, congestion, then full blown coughing fits for several weeks. Luckily this last case was so mild my coughing only lasted a week. I think my immune system is wising up to this mugs game.

have had a series of problems almost comical in their variety over the last couple of months. at the very end of my third course of antibiotics in same period. literally have one pill left to take. but felt like absolute crap yesterday, looked it up, found out it causes nausea and dizzyness, so it does so it does. now have the choice of taking the final one and teaching for 8 hrs while trying not to vomit-swoon or not finishing the course, which is apparently really bad and risky, though i find it hard to believe it's as precise as all that, and maybe having a tolerable day.

think i have bronchitis too, dr prescribed me an antibiotic without telling me what it was for! well done nhs. but i've had chest infection before and i know once you get that crackling as you exhale that's usually what it is. still feeling horrible, it's been a seriously rough dose, can't sleep properly, last night i was so hot when i tried to sleep that i was delusional. my mind is just racing and i'll start thinking i am nucky thompson or something. i know it sounds mental but it's that thing where you are having so many mini dreams and waking up so many times that your brain ceases to distinguish between sleep/wake/reality/dreams, had it before with a really bad flu a few years back.
anyway i have a big job interview friday so i really really hope i feel better by then.

Ugh, yes, sick. We had to leave New Orleans a day early last week because my wife was solid infection from the neck up -- she may still have to have tubes in her ears if the latest rounds of antibiotics and steroids don't work. I picked up her, or somebody's, case of crud last Friday night and went to the doctor Monday. Now our daughter is starting to feel a little scratchy.

Been huddled around a hot pack for the last few days (when I'm not sleeping or vomiting, that is) because of a really, really bad toothache. I went to the emergency room for it, and was prescribed antibiotics.

Here in the Boston area we've had a pretty mild winter so far in terms of snow etc., but that didn't stop me from getting a pretty bad sinus infection a few weeks back. I'm better now but still feeling like I'm on the verge of getting sick again. I just hope I can keep it at bay until springtime at least.

and ... it begins. sore throat like crazy.
(today at school i watched a kid projective vomit all over the place so – given my options - feeling a bit lucky)

A little off but nothing too bad, just seems to be a low-level something.

Thankfully, no, but both my wife and son have been suffering from nasty colds and/or sinus infections all week. I'm amazed I'm still healthy.

^^^been there. Now what is someone taking you to the doctor, who prescribes drugs and minimal rest (you shouldn't go more than a day on bed rest in most cases),

in an absolute state today, got in from class last night and got this rush of the shivers where i couldn't stop shaking. upset stomach and demented dreams all night and all day today. you know when you don't even know if you're asleep or awake, such is the madness of the fever dreams.
on the plus side there's always the chance i recover in time for the weekend.

I felt like that four weeks ago. Two courses of antibiotics later and I just about feeling normal again. I hadn't needed a sick day since 2009. Sick times.

First illness of the season. Maybe a mild flu? Temp hasn’t been over 102 and has mostly sat around 100. But bleah. Had to cancel a social thing Friday I was really looking forward to, and just generally feel puny in all respects. On the plus side it frees me up from thinking about doing anything and I’ve just been lying on the couch watching movies.
Anyway, sympathies to anyone else ailing.
