because there isn't one as far as i can work out, and it seems like a good idea and i haven't been to see a band for TWO WEEKS and it is driving me a bit nuts now. on here rather than ilm because it's more for socialising reasons than for music discussion/fighting. anywhere you can do from london and back in a night is also valid (unless it is doable but you have to do it in a plane), eg oxford/brighton/cambridge/er, southend... etc.

so... what you got coming up and where? how much is it? who's supporting? are there cheap flyers we can print off from somewhere? are you going to the pub before? which one?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

me, looselyish:

tuesday october 18th - brakes/chris t-t/the seal cub clubbing club @ borderline, and if that's one of their early finish gigs i'll head up to the dublin castle to catch gravenhurst's album launch gig
wednesday 19th - the research @ barfly, hm i need to try and sort this one out. charlie are you going?
on friday 21st i would totally be at ulrich schnauss if i didn't have to be in deepest cheshire. in my absence i demand that someone attend and make a sneak recording of the gig, please. i will repay you with a stirfly or something
sunday 23rd - on arrival back in london from cheshire i'm thinking of jumping straight on the oxford tube to catch brakes and chris t-t again at the zodiac. mark h have you resolved your brakes/fall dilemma yet?
monday 24th - my friend sande is playing at the betsey! under the name sandra and the memory machine. www.plumpromotions.co.uk then click on betsey then go to 24th for a hott pic of her. if this is anything like the last time i saw her, men will be offering her lifelong loyalty and the shirts off their backs, and women will be weeping (for joy)
tuesday 25th - the organ/the victorian english gentlemens club @ ocean rooms, brighton
wednesday 26th - the organ supporting electrelane @ ulu
friday 28th - the victorian english gentlemens club @ barfly
saturday 29th - PARTY IN MY HOUSE, details available on request
monday 31st the eighties matchbox b-line disaster @ barfly
tuesday nov 1st the organ/the victorian english gentlemens club @ water rats

pah
most of these are work gigs! i need to pull my socks up.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

On Friday 21st I am going down to Brighton to see Kevin Bletchdom as it is not just a Plan B night, but also promoted by one of my bandmates. (Otherwise I would so be at Ulrich Schnauss.)
24th is Final Fantasy at the Spitz - also a Plan B thing. THough damn, I wanted to see Sande's band, dammit.
Think I'll do at least one of those Organ and/or Victorians gigs as well.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

(And the first person to make a "rolling London Giggling thread" will get a smack upside the head from me.)

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

it may be possible to do sande and final fantasy. sande is on at 9.15. the spitz often runs bloodyfucking behinfd schedule...

(And the first person to make a "rolling London Giggling thread" will get a smack upside the head from me.)

ha i was thinking of starting that one as soon as i'd done this one but decided to leave it for ken or similar.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

tonite i may go see OCS (feat ilx fave? john dwyer) at underbelly, in hoxton...

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:35 (twenty years ago)

Depends on if I get guestlisted for Final Fantasy as it may sell out. Plan B gigs often do. But I've asked for a reserved place, though I've said I will pay.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

ah i'd love to go to that research one but i just can't afford it.

Googley Asearch (Toaster), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

hm, six quid... ver research were TOP at luminaire the other week though! (and so were the shortwave set...) on the research website it says they're playing somewhere called pure groove at 6pm? is that that record shop in west london? or am i hopelessly out of touch?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 October 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
erm is anyone going to sons & daughters tonight? am trying to get a ticket...

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 21 November 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

Acid Mothers and Ruins tomorrow....

Mestema (davidcorp), Monday, 21 November 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Is that Kosmische's Japanese festival thing at the Spitz? I was thinking about that, as I don't have to work the next day.

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Monday, 21 November 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

93 Feet East

Geroge Best will no longer be appearing.

Mestema (davidcorp), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

(Also, every time I see this thread, I keep thinking it is the Rolling London Giggling Thread. Which would be a very good idea indeed, if it were true. Sort of an alternative to the Excelsior threads where things do actually make you giggle.)

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

erm is anyone going to sons & daughters tonight? am trying to get a ticket...

so am i...

hey emsk, if we don't get aqny, fancy begging for kristin hearsh tix?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

what else is coming up?

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

emsk at work, Monday, 21 November 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Nocturnal Emissions and The Fucking Champs are all I can think of.

Mestema (davidcorp), Monday, 21 November 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

i dint get tix chuck :(

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 21 November 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to see the Gossip on Friday. Melt Banana last night, fucking rocked, my left ear is still ringing.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 21 November 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Anyone going to see the Mighty Boosh on Dec 5th in Islington?

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 21 November 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Shortwave Set action for me in 3 weeks.

BARMS, Monday, 21 November 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

ooh barms i think i am coming to that shortwave set gig. the first time i saw them i was excited cos what you said about them made me love the sound of them but i didn't quite geddit, then i saw 'em at luminaire and omg loved them and went to stalk them after the gig. clap your hands say yeah tonight!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah and did end up at k hersh last night :) she was aces. wow.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Where are Shortwave Set playing?

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

luminaire again, i think? have you been there yet?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

No, I've still never been there. I mean... it's FAR.

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Ems, I am so touched right now.

BARMS, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

No, I've still never been there. I mean... it's FAR.

FUCK OFF!!! It's Kilburn! It's 15 minutes from Oxford Circus! What is wrong with you people? The bakerloo and jubilee lines seem to bring people out in hives for no reason whatsoever.

(haha i've become such an nw6 apologist of late)

kristin hersh was teh lovely. the shortwave set were bloody amazing at the lumi last time, and i have no doubt they'll be brilliant again.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Dude, I live in Streatham. Anywhere that's not South or Central London is far for me. I hate when there are shows at the Windmill - 10 minutes away from me - and people whinge "ooh, Brixton - that's FAR!!!"

Far is relative.

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 11:06 (twenty years ago)

even brixton os only half an hour from kilburn...well, the tube is anyway - the windmill's a tad further obv.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

barms aw! now i am too.

kate it's not far! stay at ours after the gig if you want (is 20 mins on the free train to dalston kingsland). and it's LOVELY.

emskatwork, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Maybe... remind me again, closer to the day. I think it's quite easy to get from yours to my work and it would mean I could stay out later.

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

it's a piece of piss to get to yr work from ours, the 38 and 242 go there.

so, should i go to bl4ck m0unt41n/d34d m34d0w/w0lf p4r4d3e tomorrow @ scala? or the mgs w emma p0ll0ck @ bush hall?

emskatwork, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

if the tix god is kind, i'm going to black mntn tomorrow night. otherwise, it's supersystem at the metro. i've got a work conflict, unfortunately, so no s-wave set for me.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'm very much excited now.

BARMS, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Last gig I went to at the Luminaire, it ran well beyond the last crosstown train Dalston way.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

which gig was it martin? i think they've sorted out the laterunning stuff now and this is on a school night.

emskatwork, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

As a Streathamer, I do hope I won't get my work commute routine screwed by going!

Or maybe I should bring a friend with a more conveniently placed abode.

BARMS, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

We could split a cab...

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

I went to see Paul Morley & James Banbury's Infantjoy at the Luminaire last week. It's a very nice little venue. I also eagerly anticipate Shortwave Set - and Field Music - there in Dec: my two fave new groups of 05 on one bill!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

or you could stay too! we can have a shortwave PARTY!

emskatwork, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

That would be RAWK!

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm afraid I must disagree w/ JTN on the merits of the Luminaire - the sound system was much too weedy for the Afrirampo gig there a month or so ago

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

so, should i go to bl4ck m0unt41n/d34d m34d0w/w0lf p4r4d3e tomorrow @ scala? or the mgs w emma p0ll0ck @ bush hall?

the former will be pretty heavy-going, i'd imagine. the latter? i know it not.

hey, i live like 200m from the luminaire, so why don't *I* throw an aftershow? ooh, i'll see if i can DJ the gig too! so exciting...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

charlie you should absolutely dj that night. and hey i might be around on sat after all!

emskatwork, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Before I got poxy fuled, I was trying to ask... Emsk? Barms? When is this? And will I need to get tix in advance?

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

from http://www.eatyourownears.com:

Thursday December 8th, SHORTWAVE SET, FIELD MUSIC and guests The Luminaire, 311 High Road, Kilburn, London NW6 020 7372 8668 www.theluminaire.co.uk

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

Thank you muchly, Chuck! Is this going to be an ILX party, then? I'll take the next day off work.

Though argh... I have a funny feeling I'm doing something that date. Possibly EXCHANGING. Who wants to help me move with a raging hangover?

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

...I gotta hernia.

I mean, I'll be at work!

Charlie, I'll DJ with you if you like!

BARMS, Tuesday, 22 November 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Charlie, I'll DJ with you if you like!

you're on! i will contact the relevant parties forthwith.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Emma, it was the Afrirampo show Ward Fowler mentions up above - and it was too quiet for such a blisteringly aggresssive rock act.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

oh, ok. damn, shame. i have never been to see anyone that loud there... their sound system used to be shit a year or so back, but they got a new one and it's such a huge improvement. (tho i saw afrirampo at brixton and i'm sure i remember that robbing them of all power too...)

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

Hang on, this is walking distance! I will try and make this.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

relevant parties contacted. stint on the decks for shortwave set/field music gig confirmed. fuck, i amaze myself sometimes.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

The 'Japanese New Music Festival' last night was off the wall. It had amplified Chinese radish, a toothbrush duel, plus a killer 'Ruins Alone' set and nuff Kawabata freak-outs. Didn't disappoint.

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

charlie would you like to be my agent?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

Charlie,

Classic! Nice one, bruv.

BARMS, Wednesday, 23 November 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

to my amusement, i've been asked not to play too loudly, and to bear the word "pastoral" in mind at all times.

*grabs Vision Creation Newsun, stares at it intently*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

oh my fucking LORD

bl4ck m0unt4in last night

new New Favourite Band

i couldn't quite believe it, was in a pissy mood because i missed d34d m34d0w (got told they were on at 9.45, got in at 9.35, saw the last ten minutes :( which did sound fucking phenonemal, gorgeous bendy waves of sound coming in and out of focus num num) and semi-sulking, but then two songs in i was in the SKY somewhere. ...incredible...one of the most powerful and um *pure* bands i've seen. just... literally jaw-dropping. er yeah, i haven't quite got the words for them yet. i am considering going to see them in amsterdam a week today. (and then i could see d34d m34dow too!)

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 24 November 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah b0b dyl4n tonite with me dad heh heh :)

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 24 November 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Aw, sorry you missed them, I think that's our fault for making you stay and eat brownies and drink mulled wine. Are Black Mountain good? Lots of people I know like them, but then again, it's people like Frances who love the heavy metal.

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Thursday, 24 November 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

no bsp tonight then emsk? (rhetorical, eh?)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 24 November 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

nah it's whoever told s they would be on at 9.45's fault! i was being all pleased with myself at my awesome timing (ha, out the door, down to kx, tie the hoss, get in 10 mins before they're due on, yay me) so i was v annoyed that it had been screwed up by events beyond my control.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 24 November 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

no bsp i guess, we had the bd tix before we knew that date was happening...

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 24 November 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

to my amusement, i've been asked not to play too loudly, and to bear the word "pastoral" in mind at all times.

I knew that Twisted Nerve collection I built up would come in handy someday.

BARMS, Thursday, 24 November 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha ha ha ha, I missed that one the first time. Charlie, every time I hear you DJ, I would always ask you to play more quietly. So I guess that goes double this time. :-P

The Damp Is Rising (kate), Thursday, 24 November 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah, well you elderly folks can't handle the noise can you?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 24 November 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Chuck, don't get me started. I mean, yeah, even the OLD FOLKS at Club Seal were turning you down, weren't they?

-Stroke-Model (kate), Thursday, 24 November 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

blonde redhead on sunday? and oh (not a gig but) (charlie are you plugging this on here?) SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS tomorrow night!

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 25 November 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Going to try and make that, depending on how recording goes.

Right, next week - it's the great Brakes/Sonic Cathedrals FITE!

Sophisticated Boom Boom (kate), Friday, 25 November 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

yay yay! fite! sgh! yay! brakes! yay! shoegaze! yay!

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 25 November 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

who's going to smoosh tonight?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 28 November 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

i am going to smoosh, yay!

emskatwork, Monday, 28 November 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

i will see you there then!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 28 November 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, I want to go to Smoosh... but I think I will die of exhaustion if I don't spend a night in quite soon.

Please Snap StressTwig (kate), Monday, 28 November 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm, a bit, worried, about this, Shortwave Set, gig.

See, I have to drop by a Christmas party around 7-7.45pm, which probably means tag-teaming with Charlie is out, but I'm worried I'll miss the Wavies' start if I go too. Plus, Kilburn. If I hadn't already bought the ticket, I'd be struggling with major emotional conflict.

BARMS, Monday, 28 November 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

where's the other party? it's surprisingly fast to get to kilburn.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Bah. How was Smoosh?

Please Snap StressTwig (kate), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 09:06 (twenty years ago)

Ems: Chelsea.

BARMS, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

smooosh were lovely! her voice is really strong, they're very natural onstage, and they did a load of new songs which all sounded great.

erm chelsea ok that could be tricky :/
god, why do people do things in chelsea? i have in the past refused to go to things when people have them in chelsea. i mean, it's not even like it's a nice place.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

chelsea to kilburn is easy! circle to paddington, bakerloo to kilburn park, 6 min walk to the luminaire. bosh.

dunno about tag-teaming, barms, let me know if you can make it - either way, it'll only be a handful of tunes between bands, so it's no massive undertaking - it's just nice to be there innit.

sp who's going to les savy fav/weird war and/or absent kid/yeti/new rhodes etc tomorrow?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

but tomorrow is todd and part chimp @ lumi! i would be there if i weren't in amsterdam. yay todd! i do like that absent kid record though, someone sent it me by accident.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Charlie, that's brilliant. How long does that take? Maybe I can still put on a couple in-between FM and TSS.

god, why do people do things in chelsea? i have in the past refused to go to things when people have them in chelsea. i mean, it's not even like it's a nice place.

Because a large part of my personal universe has revolved around Chelsea since before my birth. It's kinda overloaded with idiots, but I haven't given up on it yet (and it's still reasonably good to look at).

BARMS, Tuesday, 29 November 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Psychic Paramount and Birds of Delay on the 6th...

Mestema (davidcorp), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

You made those last two up!

Please Snap StressTwig (kate), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to see a load of smelly old punks on Dec 11th -

Rezillos, Dickies, Saints, Angelic Upstarts, UK Subs, TV Smith, Pork Dukes, 999, Straps & Menace!!!

I probably won't be there early enough to see all of those though!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

the customers, champion kickboxer, fanfarlo and the gresham flyers at the buffalo bar tonight? the cs and ck are both ace, the others i don't know but fanfarlo come highly recommended.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 2 December 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Psychic Paramount is ex-Laddio Bolocko stuff, and Birds of Delay are a creamy-shiny noise-drone thing. Both promising!

Mestema (davidcorp), Friday, 2 December 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

no wayski - rakes, erol, paul epworth, buncha other bands at pure groove's 15th birthday bash at the dome innit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 2 December 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

I could manage all the way over to the Buffalo Bar :)

Did you disappear during the LSV/Weird War, gig, Charlie? I had a bit of a look for you a few times, but you appeared to have vanished into the mist.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 2 December 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

i watched lsf (or at least, most of it i think) and then absconded to the scala, with help from my cloak of invisibility and magic potion (beer). sorry to have missed you...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 2 December 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

80s matchbox tomorrow. clearlake wednesday (creepy pic of jason pegg here: http://www.clearlake.uk.com/graphics/jason_source_nov05.jpg). shortwave set thurs. gravenhurst friday.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 5 December 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I really wanted to go to Clearlake but obv am in no fit state to go anywhere I have to stand around. So I won't be making the Shortwave Set tomorrow, either. Bah, so much for the ILX mafia.

Next week, is anyone else going to the Plan B party on Friday? One of the few office Xmas parties I might actually be interested in going to. (Trying to think if there's any Plan B writers I would snog under the mistletoe, hrmmmm, oh yes.)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

the plan b gig is tempting, cos of some people i want to see, but there are too many cons (none of the bands look convincing, i don't give a shit about films at a party, and there are people i very much don't want to see).

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

and i'm not going without guestlist, but not bothering to ask for it.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Do you want me to ask for a plus one, Lex?

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

that would be nice, actually! thanks kate.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

OK, just wrote and told them I was coming and bringing you as my date so now we have to go. I'll protect you from anyone you hate, if you protect me from anyone who haaaates me.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

awesome, it's a date!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I need to get a walking stick becuase of my back. Maybe I can get one of those cool ones that Ed was talking about, which you can store BOOZE in the handle of!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

i'm bringing my hipflask cos i can't afford proper drinks! GRANNY CHIC

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I will wear my tweed. ;-)

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

i sense a trend being set

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

I should be at the Plan B thing. I'm not sure who I will kiss under the mistletoe, but am open to suggestions!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Kate.

You saw that coming. I know you did. (Barima), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

are some of you perhaps confusing Plan B, the Magazine, with Plan B, the post-grime artiste?

Just wondering, like.

So, Shortwave Set tonight. I'm playing records betwixt bands, but haven't chosen anything approaching a set yet. Any requests?

Also, I've been busy playing with this, which some of you may find vaguely useful. it's nowhere near fully populated as you'll see, but i'm working on it...it's a laborious process!

See some of youse tonight.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

hang on, i'm a bit confused about the plan b thing - the electrowerkz night i thought we were talking about is next friday. what is happening tomorrow?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Supersilent tonight. I don't have a ticket.

Mestema (davidcorp), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

Lex, i suspect kate's talking about Plan B magazine's staff Christmas party!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

i thought they were BOTH talking about that? the plan b xmas do is the 16th, right? i just got an email about it. if PLAN B the post-grime artiste (did he call himself that or did you?) is playing, i'm THERE.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 December 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

i called him that. i've never heard him though. no change there!

it would be great if plan b the artist played at plan b the magazine's party. it would also set a brilliant precedent for future events.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

charlie you must go see him, i think you might love him. i loved him at the windmill. then all these PLAN B BRIXTON posters started getting put up and i kept stopping to look at them and being baffled because they had no gig/release dates on but actually it turned out to be a new bar or somesuch. ARGH. so does anyone want to hook up before the gig tonight? displaying no imagination whatsoever, i predict h and i will be in the kilburn (downstairs from lumi) about 7ish. nummy thai food!

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

we had an idea, once, about plan b the magazine interviewing plan b the artist in plan b the venue. i think plan b the artist is a good mc but am REALLY not feeling his acoustic live sets - cis and i walked out of his cross central set, it was so bad.

the plan b xmas do is the 16th, i'm not sure what kate's referring to which is happening tomorrow...

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Plan B is quite good, from what I've heard (one single).

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

his singles with proper beats are good, his single with an acoustic guitar sounds like 'cleaning out my closet' but even worse

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

displaying no imagination whatsoever, i predict h and i will be in the kilburn (downstairs from lumi) about 7ish. nummy thai food!

mind if i join you? earlier than that though, doors are at 7.30 so i have to be set up by then.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

plan b the venue is quite good, for a bar. I was there because I'm grime-curious, but there was very little of it :(

I'd also be on for pre-gig food.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

be lovely to catch up charles, haven't had an Actual Conversation with you in ages. as one of the great unwashed, i can be there earlier than 7. when you thinking?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

6.30 should crack it, i reckon.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

6.30 it is then. andrew? barms? lex? gravel?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

oh i am not coming tonight! i have a sore throat and accompanying cold-esque bobbins, also the shortwave set are a bit mimsy for me.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

don't get your hopes up about field music by the way, folks - they were pretty dull last night...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm not showing up before 8.15 - prior engagement, as mentioned up above. Hopefully, I won't miss TSS's start.

BARMS, Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

7.30pm - doors open
8.00pm-8.30pm - Howling Bells
8.45pm-9.15pm - Field Music
9.45pm-10.45pm - The Shortwave Set

(but expect these to shift back by 15-30 minutes, on past experince)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

Well, I'll still be there by 9, but I haven't brought any of my TSS records to get signed, sadly.

Anyone bringing a camera?

BARMS, Thursday, 8 December 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Yes, like I said, the Plan B Xmas party is next Friday. The Shortwave Set is tonight. My back feels pretty good and I don't have to work tomorrow, so I might come down. Better than being in my house at the mo. :-|

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

What's the easiest way to get to the Luminaire without too much walking? I can do tube, overground, whatever.

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

kilburn tube, then walk down past the overground.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

er, or get the overground to Brondesbury, it's virtually next door!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 8 December 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Right, I'm on my way. Hope you're still in the pub!

Control your ponies, children! (kate), Thursday, 8 December 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

Gig of the year? Quite possibly. What a charmin' gang they are, and so bloody friendly with chat to spare. I wish I'd never told Dave about my video concept for 'Roadside', especially as I forgot the Parasol Islands tribute part.

BARMS, Friday, 9 December 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

bootiful. is that SIX New Favourite Bands this year? blimey.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 9 December 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

yay! what a splendid night. the shortwave set just...glow. mmm.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 December 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Field Music were so much better! The sound mix for the SS made them sound like some ropey old skiffle act.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 9 December 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

hmmm. well they were better than in hammersmith, definitely, but i still wasn't exactly enraptured.

jerry, have we met? we didn't meet last night, did we?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 December 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

The only letdown is that TSS still omit 'Just Goes To Show' from their performances. The sound was OK, not many people really noticed, except funhatas ;-).

Jerry, you made the worst effort to catch-up with me known to man. Even Charlie texted Ems to see if I was around.

BARMS, Friday, 9 December 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

I endorse Jerry's comment, though I'd discreetly swap Field Music for Howling Bells, who were fantastic.

The Shortwave Set were right on that point between Real Bands Playing Real Instruments and Mysterious Svengali Presses Button, Entire Tune Come Out that sets my teeth on edge. Low point is probably when the lady brought out a harmonica with a row of horns (swept upward, Dizzy Gillespie style) on top, and then waits around trying to catch the eye of Mr. Svengali. Upon eventually getting the nod, she starts to play this instrument - which sounds identical to a harmonica.

(the actual low point was anything to do with the bloody melodica)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 9 December 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

right farrell, you're banned from nw6.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 December 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

So the Weirdos unfortunately cancelled their entire European tour due to a family illness, sucks cos they were one of the bands I was most excited to see today. I missed most of Menace's set but they were pretty sloppy anyway, but 999 and the UK Subs were both great (and I don't really care for 999 usually).

Biggest disappointment was the Saints, who were really fucking bad. At first I thought it was just the sound, but even after the lead guy (Chris Bailey, I think, but I'm not sure) turned his guitar up they still sucked. I love their first 2 albums, I was embarrassed for them to be so bad. Oh well.

The Dickies and the Rezillos more than made up for it though, they both rocked. And they put on a punk burlesque show inbetween!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 12 December 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

field music were... fine... they were ok... god, i can't even get motivated to even strongly dislike anything about them. i mean, what are they *for*? there was a music journo i know fairly well stood next to me at some point during their set and he seemed to be getting into them so i asked him if he liked them and he said "yeah!" enthusiastically so i asked him why and all he could come up with was "i like their music! they're good!" yebbut why?? "they're a good band!" yebbut why? no response. :/ h came up with much better answers to do with choppy changey rhythms and goofy sweetnesses, none of which convinced me field music were worth the time but all of which convinced me she did actually like the band and had, y'know, thought about them a bit. andrew said watching me watching them was like watching a dog watching telly, which pretty much sums it up. howling bells were aces though, they weren't doing anything particularly innovative or new but what they were doing they were doing really well. and we met a boy called hedgehog!

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 12 December 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

oh yeh, reveal records showcase thingy @ bush hall on tues. joan as policewoman and deep elem playing, neither of whom i know anything about but i like the reveal people so i'm gonna go. anyone else?

also considering trying to wangle myself into the broken family gig on thurs @ 100 club. 'sbin too long.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 12 December 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

I actually quite enjoyed the Field Music. I wasn't impressed at first, but they were bouncy and had good harmonies and were kind of freak beat/prog, like one minute they were just being The Jam and then the next they'd go off on this strange mentalist bit where they turned into XTC and then went back to being The Jam again.

Howling Bells were wonderful in a sort of Mazzy Star way, but they did go on WAY TOO LONG which gets them demerits, especially in a support band. Wished TSS' set was as long as theirs was.

And Farrell, if you think that's "pushing buttons and a symphony comes out" I hate to think what you'd think of the Shimuras!

And I'm not saying this just coz we're mates (in fact, if anything, I'd me more likely to take the piss) but that was some great DJ-ing between the sets.

Kate Classic (kate), Monday, 12 December 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Argh Kate, that's what I went to lengths not to say! I have no problem with "It might as well be coming off a DAT" artists, or with proper bands. I also don't have a problem per se with those in between, except when I do.

My impression of the Shimura Curves is that you're mostly laptop, with a guitar + effects when wanted (and singing), is that right? Effective use of the necessary tools, is my point. Whereas with TSS, with another press of his button he could have stuck the so-so bassist and drummer inside his machine, and just left the front people out. Though you'd still have had that bloody melodica..

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 12 December 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

You just hated that melodica. Admit it. It was nothing to do with the live bassist (who was actually really good, and above and beyond what a canned bass could have done) and drummer.

I actually have a lot more respect for bands who can integrate samples in that way, as melodic riffs, rather than just texture. It's harder to do than you'd think. But ::shrugs::

Kate Classic (kate), Monday, 12 December 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Stupid poxy fule eating my post. Bah.

Kate Classic (kate), Monday, 12 December 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

fleeing new york last night who were GREAT except irritating lead singer. apparently they were having an off-night. their bassist is amazing. she reminded me of bod fonda. possibly broken family band tonight if i can get in.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 15 December 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Anaal Nathrakh!

Mestema (davidcorp), Thursday, 15 December 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

And I'm not saying this just coz we're mates (in fact, if anything, I'd me more likely to take the piss) but that was some great DJ-ing between the sets.

hee! didn't see this til now. ta.

em, you saw fleeing new york? fuck they're fantastic. really don't get why they're not getting famous, their have SO MANY strong songs and SO MUCH personality. I wouldn't call the chap the "lead" singer though, every time I've seen them he and the lass have shared pretty much 50/50. in fact, if anything, she's the "lead". funny, maybe this perception is just a boy/girl thing.

either way, they're brilliant brilliant. where did you see them?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 15 December 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

seen 'em at buffalo bar. he was behaving like he was the lead singer, tryna grab all the attention &etc, but he was *really* pissed... i loved them sort of despite him, really. first few songs i was kind of semi-convinced but then they did this one called 'ha ha' and it all came right and just got better from then on in. awesome stretched-out-an-sparse sexblooz. the quotes on their site don't do them justice, one of them says "ooh the new white stripes ooh ooh wet yr pants ppl ooh" or something, which made me look forward to them a lot less, but they were wicked. she is just *phenomenal* (course, she is called emma innit), she had me totally mesmerised. um, they reminded me of black mountain a bit. perhaps that might be because they were the last band i fell in wuv with though and it was the tingliness and OMFGness that was the same. but actually no i think it was the sounds and the sense. you seen bm charlie? also fny's manager said at the end of the gig it was a rub one and i wasn't to pay attention to it, so i can't wait to see 'em at a good one.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 16 December 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

oh and also i did go to see broken family tonight (i wuv them - they piss me off; they make me cry; they make me piss myself laughing. frequently all in the space of one song) and jesus god bloody fuck none of you must ever go and see phonofictionwho were supporting them. they are teh mighty suck. they sounded like playing songs was like having constipation, really effortful in a non-fun way, and also nothing good came out of their efforts. christ, they really missed the point.

also herman dune are doing the t&f winter sprinter sat jan 7th. who's in?

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 16 December 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Joan as a policewoman is really rubbish.. A woman singer with a piano. I saw her supporting Rufus Wainwright earlier this year, and we couldn't stop laughing through her set. She's part of Rufus' touring band.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 16 December 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

I still think you are making up Fleeing New York. You were really just Fleeing Having To Move Any More Boxes. ;-)

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

oh great, i'm glad i didn't go then! i couldn't find out if i was on the list or not. had a far better time at the fap and didn't have to trek to not-london (haha kate time out nicked another one from you... you should charge 'em) to do it either.

i am not making up fleeing new york! look, here they are: www.fleeingnewyork.co.uk . and all the boxes were moved! i wanted to hang around and gossip some more. oh i can't come to s's party on sat night :( but it is because i am WORKING hurrah!

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, pity you are missing the party. But working is good, hurrah.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:09 (twenty years ago)

kate, when and where shall we meet tonight?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Ah, yes! I saw your email. I'll be working until about 7pm. Where is it? Electrowerks? Let's meet around the Angel somewhere then. I might also go to the cheap Indian place, as well, first.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

i don't think i can afford to eat out at the moment - i'll meet you post-indian meal. i can get down to angel in under half an hour from my place (reliability of the no 38 pending), do you want to text me when you're ready?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I don't actually know what time I'll get out of work - could be as late as 8, but I will text you when I'm finishing with dinner and let you know what pub to meet in. (The Indian place is super cheap - all you can eat for £3!)

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

all you can eat for £3?! that actually sounds like a Very Good Deal and one i think i might be able to afford. actually, text me when you're close to getting out of work, and i'll hopefully be feeling solvent enough for the meal.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

Dude, if you are up for the Indian Mission, then I can give you £3! Will text you when I get out of work and meet you at Chapel Market.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

lex if you haven't been there you should def go, even if the food wasn't nummy and plentiful it would be worth it for the posters on the walls...

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 16 December 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know what The Grosvenor in Stockwell is like, or how easy it is to get to? Just saw Hard Skin are playing there tonight, which might be quite amusing.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 16 December 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

that sounds awesome kate. i'm still in dalston but text me whenever...

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Still haven't left work yet... sigh. I've got a bottle of wine now and wondering if I'm going to be searched before going into the club, but FFS, it's a housewarming gift with a card and everything.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

well, i'll be bringing my hipflask of vodka in with me. do they normally search at electrowerkz?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

I have no idea. I've never been there before! But I'll leave the card attached to it to prove it's a housewarming gift. I will be leaving soon. Honest.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

i have 28 minutes left in this internet cafe so no rush!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

OK, cool. Do you still wanna get dinner first? I had lunch quite late so I'm not sure I can handle a big dinner.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

i don't really mind - i'm not ravenous just yet. up to you!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

OK, I'm leaving pretty much nowish. It'll take me 15/20 minutes to get there on the bus, but I'll message you anyway.

Kate Classic (kate), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

same for me, and i'll leave now too: see you at chapel market!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 16 December 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

the sws at luminaire was inspiring. at risk of sounding overly pseud like, i see their struggle with technology as a rather powerful allegory for the difficulties i face on a daily basis, not just with gadgets but with the modern milleu per se. the shortwave set are the quintessential clockwork orange. beautiful , organic beings integrating themselves into the modern age when possible. i've seen them a few times and when the sound guy gets his shit together they are utterly peerless. when he doesn't it's meerly great. btw; my understanding is they are doing a residency at the arts theatre on frith street jan/feb. got a contact behind the bar there and he swears it to be the case.

edgar, Monday, 19 December 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
herman dune on saturday at the water rats as part of track & field's winter sprinter thingy. steven off the broken family band and darren off hefner are supporting. i am totally excited about this - the return of the MIGHTY DUNE!! yyyeeeeeahhh! it has been far too long.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:44 (twenty years ago)

Chris Corsano (solo?), Yellow Swans and Jack Rose at the Luminaire in February. What's it like???

Also, the No Trend Festival!

Mestema (davidcorp), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:06 (twenty years ago)

broken family band/fonda 500 on friday at the water rats, woo!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:12 (twenty years ago)

i thought these were sold out?

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 5 January 2006 10:14 (twenty years ago)

the shortwave set! tonight! at a horrible dive in soho! anyone else?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 16 January 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I was just going to revive this thread because of SLOOOO-AN at the Underworld on 31st Jan!

Also, my friend is not coming to see Bauhaus with me, so I have an extra ticket. Sigh. Any takers?

Disciplining And Controlling My Mind (kate), Monday, 16 January 2006 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Hello!

suzy (suzy), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Suzy, you have a date. I need to check what day it is - I think it's the 3rd of Feb, but I need to check the tickets.

Disciplining And Controlling My Mind (kate), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Friday 3rd Feb at the Brixton Academy.

God, how useless if Bauhaus's site? There's no option to skip the intro, so I get bored of The Art and wander off when I just want bloody information.

Disciplining And Controlling My Mind (kate), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Awesome! Fish seeks potato and all that...

suzy (suzy), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Smash it up, smash it up, AUUUUUMMMMM...

Disciplining And Controlling My Mind (kate), Monday, 16 January 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
OK, now the search function is working again.

Anyone want a ticket for Sloan tonight? I just can't face going out.

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

That's Sloan at the Camden Underworld.

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

islaja on the 24th, somewhere

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:20 (twenty years ago)

Am going to Jens Lekman, Feb 16th, Bush Hall & Sultans of Ping (!) Mar 18th, Garage.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Islaja was excellent last time I saw her, came across as someone totally lost in the world of her own music. Hope it's a nice small intimate venue though.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 17:08 (twenty years ago)

I saw her at the Cube in Bristol, playing as part of Hertta Lussu Assa (w. Lau Nau and Kuupuu). Intimacy is definitely required for the tapping of little glassy trinkets and whispery vocals. One of the best shows I saw last year actually. And babes, all of 'em.

Mestema (davidcorp), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Plus....

Prurient, Burning Sitar Core, Zaimph, Heather Leigh Murray.

And another Yellow Swans show tonight.

Mestema (davidcorp), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Heather Leigh Murray is fantastic too, someone else just so inside and totally attuned to their own soundworld. Not seen her solo though, just as part of Taurpis Tula. Wish they'd play Brighton again.

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I saw Islaja at Sonar, during the day, in a cool stone room. I lay on the floor for her whole set, it was perfect recovery/restorative music.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

She did a solo show in London as part of 'Her Noise'. She really witched out. Then I got told off buy some dickwad chick for eating winegums while handling the CDs on show.

Never seen Zaimph. It's just Marcia Bassett, I think. Zolo.

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock and Smegma to play end of April too. Can't wait to see R&G after being denied at No Fun 2005.

I think Hive Mind, Aaron Dilloway, Skaters, Axolotl and Mouthus might be in London around that time too. They're playing Subcurrent anyway, which usually means London gigs imminent...

Mestema (davidcorp), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 12:13 (twenty years ago)

random number tonite, at catch 22, free...

terry lennox. (gareth), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Damn, I would really like to see Clearlake, but I'm rehearsing. Dammit.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 13:12 (twenty years ago)

i know. i am doing some work for clearlake and they're only in town tonight so i have to go see 'em. (not that i'm not looking forward to it, obv!)

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 13:23 (twenty years ago)

i wish this was the rolling London giggling thread. i'd make the journey to london to get together with folks just to giggle. i have recently perfected my giggle, in fact.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 9 February 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Oi! Calling Bell and Sebastian fans Cardigan Wearers is an insult to Cardigans!

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 11:49 (twenty years ago)

A west pennines Blue Oyster Cult, that sounds great.

I bought tickets for King Creosote in March, he was outrageously good (again) at the Barbican the other night.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 9 February 2006 11:58 (twenty years ago)

I cannot go to this but it'll prob. be really gd, shitty sound system and all:

JACK ROSE + CHRIS CORSANO + D YELLOW SWANS
THUR 9 FEB - THE LUMINAIRE, 311 High Road, NW6 7JR [Kilburn / Brondesbury]

Upsettherhythm are also promoting the following, def. want to see marcia bassett she rules noize:

ZAIMPH (Marcia Bassett) + HEATHER LEIGH MURRAY
SUN 5 MAR - GREEN NOTE, 106 Parkway, NW1 7AN
[Camden Town]

BURNING STAR CORE + PRURIENT + LEOPARD LEG
+ CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
TUES 18 APR - THE LUMINAIRE, 311 High Road, NW6 7JR [Kilburn / Brondesbury]

Burning Star Core and Prurient are both playing Subcurrent in Glasgow a cpl of days later, Consumer Electronics is Phillip Best from Whitehouse

Sunburned Hand of the Man are also apparently playing a London date on the 3rd March, they were totally mindblowing last time they played the Spitz

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 9 February 2006 12:08 (twenty years ago)

Yellow Swans were great at the solo show last week, and I think the PA is even louder tonight. Apparently Chris Corsano is gonna be setting up 'somewhere in the room'. Hoping for a tag-team with Jack Rose...

Mestema (davidcorp), Thursday, 9 February 2006 12:36 (twenty years ago)

sunburned hand of the man are playing oxford on the 22nd with random number (who was v good last night, picked up the new cd also)

terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 9 February 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

There are some, uh, bands... playing at the Luminaire on the 14th February. You might have heard of some of them? Heh.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I cannot go to this but it'll prob. be really gd, shitty sound system and all:

the lumi has shitty sound? first i've heard - i think it's brilliant! was last night for captain black anyway, and indeed for many other lovely shows...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 9 February 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 20 February 2006 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Sunburned Hand of the Man are also apparently playing a London date on the 3rd March, they were totally mindblowing last time they played the Spitz

It is the 4th and it is in Elephant and Castle! OK, I've never seen them, but it's a Kosmische show and the idea of actual rolling/drone/psych music down near my neck of the woods is v. appealing. What should I expect?

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:54 (twenty years ago)

My indie friend will be in town for that weekend, and is interested in that as well. Also could someone talk about Get Cape Wear Cape Fly? In the Windmill, with Example and These New Puritans.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 23 February 2006 17:47 (twenty years ago)

what about get cape? is it tonight? i am all mixed up this week, i forgot the cribs on sunday and i thought get cape was tonight but i also thought it was wednesday and i know today is not wednesday.

sam get cape is um refreshing - he's about 11 (well, 20 or something) and does these super-idealistic singalongs about how great it could be, acoustic guitar and a minidisc and a mate with a trumpet.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 23 February 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

They're in Bush Hall for a racism gig on Sunday, the Windmill next Friday (which is when I'm considering), and at Kings College (?) the Monday after.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 23 February 2006 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I know there are people here who are likely to be interested (I'm looking at you, McPherson) in Afrirampo at Cargo on April 12th. I plan to be there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 10:27 (twenty years ago)

wildly last-minute, i have a spare ticket to see, umm, dirty pretty things tonight at kings college (temple tube i think) - if you have my number, you're welcome to come! and if you don't but you feel you should, then ask someone who does to give it to you! cos i sure as heckers amn't gona publish it here...

the shortwave set at bush hall last night! ooh, lovely. the good news: two new songs with ulrike singing - i mean, really singing, belting them out. brilliant. bad news: ind3p3ndi3nte have dropped them, despite having made fuck-all effort to promote them. fools.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 13:38 (twenty years ago)

help! i have french people to entertain. my cousin d and his gf g are in town april 15th-19th and i have to wow them with my social whirl. d is Indie but not too Noizy. g i don't know very well but since d's asked me specifically about taking them to some gigs and he knows what i'll think he'll like and not mentioned anything specific beyond "good", i guess she likes similar stuff to him. so erm... what's going on then?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Wild Woman With Steak Knives (kate), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 11:44 (twenty years ago)

bah, tomorrow i will either be in brighton or at metro.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 11:53 (twenty years ago)

i think is shall give it a go, the Lex was going to email me to ask about this, however he appears to have forgotten. He was going to email me to remind me of something else but I have no idea what it was.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 12:02 (twenty years ago)

I think you were possibly confusing him with me. I was going to ask about that folk album.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 12:18 (twenty years ago)

yes, that is correct.

Select from the following:

Jon Spiers and John Boden - 'Bellow', 'Songs' or 'Tunes'
Bellowhead - 'E.P.onymous'

All available from

http://www.squeezy.fsnet.co.uk/spiers_boden/

Incidentally they are playing at the Spitz on 23/05 and Bellowhead (head's up Kate) at the Blackheath Halls on 21/04, I've just bought a tticket for that.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 13:08 (twenty years ago)

Boris at Underworld April 10th

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 28 March 2006 13:13 (twenty years ago)

Did you turn up in the end, Ed? I came along late, at about 9.30. Gemma etc must have been on and just done because about 5 minutes after I arrived the compere came back on and started singing. He sang well enough for a clear voiced fellow, but he seemed incredibly precious and irritated me (his distinct resemblance to Jerry Seinfeld didn't help much). After a short set (with a friend on banjo for the last song, which actually caused Jerry to deign to use a microphone instead on insisting on pin-drop silence) they went of and Tim van Eyken came out for a long set.

Some of it was acapella (including a "lads beware of courtin" song, and one about prison) some was on the guitar (a political protest song which accentuated his accent's similarity to one William Bragg, ans a version of Benjamin Bowmaneer that really struck me at being well-thought out and produced) and a few on the squeezeboxes, the small one for reels and the big one for slow songs you can sing to (one had pirates! and one had a Civil War naval battle). The second reel set the bar alight, along with the regular stamping in time with the music, there was some fantastic syncopated clapping from the punters, at least two separate groups (with different ideas of what needed syncopation), it was brilliant.

He did an encore, which meant that half of the audience were already at the bar, and this broke the Veil of Silence, so it stayed a bit louder on that side for the rest (in fairness as time goes on, people be dranking, so it almost certainly always breaks down at some point). The audience seemed a quarter Islington cunts and a quarter proper stern folkies, and the rest being all stops on the lines between.

The last act was a fiddle player. After two songs I could hear the beguiling air of the Trawlerman chipper, so off I went.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 March 2006 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Where on earth are the Blackheath Halls? I would like to see Bellowhead. But will it mean I have to go to Blackheath?

Wild Woman With Steak Knives (kate), Thursday, 30 March 2006 12:46 (twenty years ago)

I didn't turn up due to the people I was meeting for dinner being a whole half and hour late and not finishing dinner till gone 10:30. Sounds like a little as I feared, its cecil sharp people so they are a bit precious about folk and amplification and the like. However I will go to the next one nonetheless.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 30 March 2006 12:51 (twenty years ago)

I've just been asked if I want to review anything around the weekend of the 8/9 April. But I can't think of anything that's happening except mine own gig!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:29 (twenty years ago)

are you coming to bellowhead? Would you like a ticket as a BDay present? A nice precursor to going to York.

also, Stockhausen's Mixtur on the 24th

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 10:56 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I would like to see Bellowhead! And yes, if you're offering, that would be a great b-day present. (I suspect that it is after the deadline, unfortunately, as it would be great to review them.) Especially since you seem to know where the venue is and I've never heard of it!

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:10 (twenty years ago)

does it have to be the w/e? victorians are doing buffalo bar tues 11th.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:16 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I cannot do the 11th as that is Frances' birthday party. I would have liked to review them, as well.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:18 (twenty years ago)

If you wanted to review Bellowhead they are gigging this weekend, at oxford and farnham

http://www.bellowhead.co.uk/gigs.html

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:33 (twenty years ago)

But... but... that's a FOLK festival they are playing at in Oxford! I haven't been to a folk festival since I was 17, and it wouldn't be right to go to one without my dad. And I can't go to Surrey as it would be impolitic to miss mine own party.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:36 (twenty years ago)

art of fighting tonight? or the schlas?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 12:04 (twenty years ago)

Ah! I misread the dates! I have asked if I can review Bellowhead. I think that it will be a great deal more exciting than the usual indie nonsense.

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I got you a ticket, if you get freebies then I can easily find others to come.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Excellent! (I usually try to pay for gigs I am reviewing, so that I don't feel guilty if I don't like the show.) I have also figured out where it is! Do you know, after all the times I visited Blackheath, I never walked the other way out of the station, so I had no clue it was there?

Tweed on Tweed (kate), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

Sunn/Burning Star Core/Russell Haswell at the Hippodrome this Friday. Pricey though.

And The Dead C/Charalambides in December.

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I'm going to that, too. sunno))) that is.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

I'm tempted now, as I love Russel haswell.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

What's the Hippodrome like? Hippodrone, rather, yuk yuk.... :(

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Thursday, 12 October 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone want my sunno))) ticket?

My back is in too bad a shape to take standing up all night.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Friday, 13 October 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

hi im in london. think im going to fabric tonite for ed bangers party, then tomorrow for mandy, then monday i forgot, then tuesday rapture show, then wednesday fly back to new york

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 13 October 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

So who is shoegazing tonight?

iLiKETRAiNS and The Early Years at Cargo tonight.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

Me. When, where how?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think I might eat some dodgy Thai food first, then walk over.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

OK, I am going to eat kippers and wonder down for about 8pm.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

iLIKETRAINS were stunning. the first support band were incredible: The Strange Death of Liberal England.

They are playing at the Luminaire on tuesday. Anyone up for it?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 07:25 (nineteen years ago)

wait, phil was here for the weekend and we (ok, i) didn't know? aw, that makes me sad :(

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

I can't get TSDOLE's songs to play on their myspace, but I'm intrigued for next Tuesday from your report.

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

If you go on their proper website they ahve their latest EP in a listenable form

http://www.tsdole.co.uk/

Also, they speak in Placards.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

All three bands were really good. However, I'm old and I can no longer stand up for three band in a row. Bah. I feel like death today.

The placards were a touch of brilliance.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

Also its folk time next wednesday.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

The folk is on the Wednesday, right?

Because Tuesday is already taken up with more shoegazing at The Fly. The Fly is good, it has seats.

Blah Blah Blah (kate), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

who is tuesday?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Engineers.

(It is a shame they did not play with iLiKETRAiNS to complete the locomotive theme.)

Blah Blah Blah (kate), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

tough decision that.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

I can't go to either now. Only night I can see my dad next week. Only just back from his honeymoon.

Unless the Engineers goes really late.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 19 October 2006 18:47 (nineteen years ago)

So Engineers no longer seem to be on the list for who is playing the Sonic Cathedrals thing tonight. So I don't feel bad about not going now.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

I might be back on for TSDOLE.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

i am going to tsdole. i think they are on well early though, they're first and doors are 7.30 and the headliners are apparently on at 10 (tho hopefully that means 10.15)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Astra Social Club, Neptune and Charles Hayward (This Heat!!) tonight.

Don't know anything about Neptune (some Table of the Elements thing?), but I've been waiting to see Neil Campbell live for ages. Zoned, hopefully.

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Bronsteins at the social tomorrow and it's free to get in.

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 8 January 2007 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

What are Infants/Sodastream like?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

sodastream are aussie jingle-jangle types, not as much fun as the lucksmiths...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 8 January 2007 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

infants are a wondrous horrible racket, with a japanese girl squealing. they made me want to go home and listen to urusei yatsura, i can ysi if you like.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 15 January 2007 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

is anyone going to i'm from barcelona at ulu next week?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 15 January 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

No, but Thursday! The Strange Death of Liberal England at Sonic Cathedrals!

It's somewhere weird this week - Everything Must Go on Soho Street.

But also, Nat just told me the most awesomeist news but I can't say what it is yet.

The Long Grey And Overcast Tea Time Of The Soul (kate), Monday, 15 January 2007 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

I saw I'm From Barcelona in Brixton last year, they were great fun. Didn't know they were playing again, doubt I'll make it though.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 15 January 2007 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

i am not convinced enough by what i've heard from i'm from barcelona to spend #11 on it and i haven't figured out if i can get a freebie yet. hmm.

CLUB AC30@
LUMINAIRE, LONDON - FEBRUARY 20
Logh + Air Formation + Malory + Ulrich Schnauss DJ

??

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 25 January 2007 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

There's Sonic Cathedrals on the 22nd and 28th as well! Ah, shoewibble happiness...

(There's a Night of the Long Swords before that, as well, but can't remember the exact date.)

The Whistling Bus (kate), Thursday, 25 January 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ulrich Schnauss live = tasteful and very very dull. That's all I got.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 25 January 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

You are very, very wrong.

The Whistling Bus (kate), Thursday, 25 January 2007 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

Lol(z) Coxhill (among others) at the Ivy House pub, Nunhead, tonight.

Go if I don't bother..

xyzzzz__ (jdesouza), Thursday, 25 January 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

oh you are so SO wrong! but you don't like philip pullman either so clearly you are not to be trusted.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 25 January 2007 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

I so wish I could go to the skronk at the Ivy House but I fear I am just busy with other foolishness.

Lol Coxhill was the inadvertent centre of one of my favourite ever live music experiences, at the Ivy House too.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 25 January 2007 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

What, about Ulrich Schnauss? Well, perhaps he's undergone a marked change in direction - the stuff I heard 5 years ago couldn't be described as anything other than boring.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

never saw him live but obviously his music can be described as other than boring (i like a bit of schnauss).

vita susicivus (blueski), Thursday, 25 January 2007 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Just in case anyone was going to see Jack Rose (guy from Pelt) tonight at the Luminaire, don't bother cos it's cancelled.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Thursday, 25 January 2007 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone up for some twinkly vangelis style soundscapes at the buffalo bar on wednesday?

http://www.myspace.com/kontakteuk

Ed (dali), Sunday, 4 February 2007 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! I thought that was on Tuesday! Is it Wednesday? Regardless, I think I am going to go, they are very good.

Fire and Worms (kate), Monday, 5 February 2007 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

shall we get veggy curry before hand?

Ed (dali), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds like a plan!

Fire and Worms (kate), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

I thought this was a 'London giggling thread'. Imagine my disappointment etc...

DavidM* (unreal), Monday, 5 February 2007 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

i like the sound of this
i may be trapped in my house though :(

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Hot, hot curry will cure all lurgy.

Fire and Worms (kate), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i can't leave the house though :(
(god i am feeling so sorry for myself! pls ignore whingery)
you are right, i think. i do have some swedey lentil thing left over from last week... that has some curry spices and chillies in it. not hungry though :(

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ohmigod, you must be really sick if you are not hungry for things full of chillies! You poor dear!

Fire and Worms (kate), Monday, 5 February 2007 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Night of the Long Swords on Saturday? Under El Paso, Old Street.

Just putting it out there/reminding people coz I won't be online tomorrow.

Probability Smear Of Possible Quantum Katehood (kate), Thursday, 8 February 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

ooh! is it free before 11? i can barely read their myspace but i think that's what it says.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

ah, the spinny thing has gone behind the words now. YES it is free before 11.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Under El Paso used to be free before midnight, so I wouldn't be surprised. But yeah, their website is a bit hard to read. Worth it - this is the club I went to at the Windmill that was so excellent a few weeks ago.

Probability Smear Of Possible Quantum Katehood (kate), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, prepared to have your eyes blinded if you look at their MySpace but anyone who has "Hocus Pocus" by Focus as their default music is alright by me.

Oh looky, they've updated their site fast.

Probability Smear Of Possible Quantum Katehood (kate), Thursday, 8 February 2007 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

CLUB AC30@

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

butcher boy at the windmill tonight? or the long blondes at the scala? or even both?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 February 2007 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Jakob Olausson and James Blackshaw tonight at the Fleapit. Never heard Olausson, but his De Stijl LP seems very highly regarded. He also had he had an album out on Slippy Town, and the Gulcher seal of approval does it for me! So yeah, might check this one out. I've seen Blackshaw before, and although he does what he does very nicely, the last time I saw him he played prior to Rick Bishop, who did EVERYTHING nicely.

And then tomorrow......

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Aufgehoben live should be pretty spectacular. I think this started as Aufgehoben only, then grew to add all the other groups, naturally featuring Birds of Delay, who are surely the most ubiquitous filler group for noise shows??

paizuri-san (davidcorp), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

i've seen fanfarlo, i liked them. on monday i am at the larrikin love and whoever else gig at koko tho.

long blondes tonight yay yay! they are onstage at 1am i hope they serve coffee in the scala. haha like i could/would afford their coffee prices even if they do.

chuck DO NOT SEE BUTCHER BOY unless you have nothing else to do.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Emsk OTM

Ed (dali), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

are butcher boy rub? explain? it's how does it feel to be loved though, so the other music will be good at least.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

i'm pretty certain butcher boy is sold out anyway, according to what my brain is telling me it said in an email i got from mr watson earlier in the week, but which i have since deleted...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

i'm on the door innit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

but charlie has magic music industry skillz. charlie they were AWFUL. i mean, i LIKE an atonal racket and i still hated them. i seem to've tried to block them out of my memory but the vision floating in my ears is of emo grownups playing wilfully but joylessly badly. er that may or may not be accurate.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

(by which i mean, my name is on the door, rather than actually me...)

i thought they were meant to be twee b&s-alike types?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

ye si also thought they were at least vaguely b&s-y

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Hum.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 9 February 2007 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

That is not the same butcher boy, (perhaps it was butcher's boy), ours was sub pub-punk shouting.

Ed (dali), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

oh god, definitely different band.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

aha. that makes more sense then. perhaps i'll go after all. although if it's sold out that means i'll have to go on my own to scary brixton...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 9 February 2007 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

aw c'mon brixton isn't scary. NOTTINGHAM is scary.

CharlieNo4, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to Clorox Girls on Friday.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

Are Os Mutantes playing tonight? I thought they were on the 27th? Are they playing twice? I can't go on the 27th anyway :(

Is anyone else going to Clorox Girls? I'm on my lonesome. If you see a tall bloke with glasses say hi.

Anyone going to the Rise gig on Sunday? I might go just because it's free and not very far away.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 13 July 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

hi folks,

whatever happened to The Garage?

concernedly,

steve shasta

Steve Shasta, Friday, 13 July 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

The Garage closed down or lost its licence or something. I just got back from Religious Knives, they were dire. No wave meets reggae! Not a good combination. But Nalle were great, which made up for it.

Matt #2, Saturday, 14 July 2007 00:05 (eighteen years ago)

The Garage shut down "for renovations" about a year ago. It was originally supposed to re-open last September, but I guess Mean Fiddler isn't interested any more.

Clorox Girls were cool, as were the support band the Feelers, but once again Dirty Water Club was pretty empty. I always feel bad for bands that play there, it's always so dead! I saw the Epoxies and Riot Squad there a few months back and there was only about 20 people in the whole room. I dunno if they just don't publicise it much or something.

I did see occasional ILX0r davidcorp there though!

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 14 July 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

Churches really are quite lovely settings. Never mind choral recitals, I prefer chamber and solo music recitals to take place there as well.

Saw a performance of a tape piece by Alvin Lucier last week as part of the 'Music we'd like to hear' series. That is probably the only time I'll ever hear anything like that in a church - I can bet you anything there is probably someone who ws there who is going on about how 'bad' the acoustics were.

http://www.musicwedliketohear.com/

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 15 July 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)

I'm Spartacus DavidCorp! And sorry for the confusion about Os Mutantes. I was totally wrong, thankfully. It is indeed the 27th. Stirmonster is djing at that too, eh? You got tickets, Mark?

I just got back from Religious Knives, they were dire. No wave meets reggae!

Religious Knives sound alrighton record, but the clip of them on the Ecstatic Peace was the decider, really. You just can't compare something like that to a great live *rock* show. And I kinda OD'd on noise shows for the moment anyway. But, yeah, Clorox Girls killed it. And their roadie photographer dude was the spit of Weird Al, so no contest, really.

gnarly sceptre, Monday, 16 July 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

the garage shutdown/lost its licence cos it's shite

ken c, Monday, 16 July 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Oh! Hi Dave. Didn't realise you'd changed your name, obviously. I won't be able to go to the Os Mutantes gig anyway because I'm in Devon that weekend.

Weird Al dude wouldn't give me a discount if I bought a few 7"s even though they were £4 each, the bastard. I got 3 anyway, because I'm a sucker.

xpost!
