One doesn't have to think very hard to think of things that one has done for THE FIRST TIME IN ONE'S LIFE each day, I find.

For example, today I got the bus home to work and back in my lunch hour for the first time ever.

What's the most remarkable thing you'd done for the first time today?

I'm considering it. They could have been placed there any time between 3 p.m. Friday and 8:02 a.m. today. But one of them is a Boston Cream (my favourite), and those don't really go bad since they're entirely synthetic.

I would guess that as a type of food, cake is less likely to have the chance to grow mould than almost anything else.

I climbed an external fire escape in London to get to an office; I came in to work to find that my computer wouldn't even turn on (its mother board was fried by a hoover seems to be the current diagnosis); I bought satsumas from the best stall on Berwick Street market.

xpost - my hideous former boss fancied herself as a bit of a cook, and brough in a cake for somone's birthday; the cake was very well made but she'd used off cream in the icing and no-one had the heart to tell her. Gross.

i bought a pack of 1.6 amp fuses and that glue that's so scary it had two syringes so the chemicals only mix when you need it.

i bought lunch from a Benjy's. Their "Christmas Sandwich". the baubles were crunchy.

i was relieved to hear that fixing our drains is going to cost a lot less than we thought.

I gave my friend R1kki a guided tour of my apartment and my workplace, neither of which he had ever seen before in his whole entire life. Excitements! Then I gave my friend R1kki directions to MoMA, which was also a first. (I have given R1kki directions to other places before, including my apartment, but not to MoMA.) Late last night (but within the last 24 hours), I stuck a DVD full of retro arcade games to the back of my front door using masking tape, so that my flatmate's boyfriend would see it, and be able to take it on his way to work. I've never done anything like that before.

Also, for lunch today, I ate a whole pack (8) of crumpets, because I was feeling hungry and lazy. I had four with grapefruit marmalade, and four with just butter. That's more crumpets than I've ever eaten in one sitting before, and it felt quite extravagant.

Right now, on my desk, my nintendo DS is searching for other online ILXors. If it finds any, I'll be able to play mariokart against them! That'll be a first too.

Ran panicking round a multi-storey car park for a considerable amount of time convinced that someone had stolen my colleague's car (rather than the truth which was that it had been parked on some weird intermediary floor that didn't have an exit out of the stairwell so didn't exist as far as we were concerned when we went into the stairwell and came out at the next level). Anyway, I can now no longer scoff at the daft people who forget where they park their car in big car parks. In my defence, I knew where we'd parked, relatively speaking, I was just on the wrong floor. Several times.

i have moved to a desk next to and looking out of a window for the first time in an office. now i look over the site of sheffields old castle, pulled down in the civil war, and where it stood now is a crummy old market building. the window is wide, and the sky bright and blue, and in the distance i can see the hill where crookes and walkley rise above the town, so this is a good thing for me today.

Not mine, but my mother-in-law got a phone call from a tabloid journalist asking about a recently--mega-famous TV actor WHO (spot the subtle clue) she knew in his younger days. I'm pretty sure that's never happened to her before.

I watched Pingu for the first time ever, this morning.
