Any takers? I go back to Glasgow the next day, so it'll be my one and only night out. I will phone the pub in advance this time to check they'll be open. Speaking of which, any pub recommendations?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Oh poo, I'm still in Portsmouth on the 27th.

robster (robster), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

hmmm... haven't been to an FAP for ages. Might be up for it, I'll be back later with fershers.

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Isn't HStencil having a FAP on the 27th at The Foundry?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

yeah meet us there madchen!!!!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Are you? For some reason I thought that was the 28th but OK! Good.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Is there a thread? I can't find it.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm in Glasgow :(

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Damn, I'll swap ya!

Kate Classic (kate), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

there isn't really a thread, perhaps this one will do!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

please madchen 27th foundry yeh.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

wat es dei foudnry?

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

it's a bar

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

I hear it's quite nice there. Is it near Waterloo?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

it's on the northern line so could be as little as 20 mins door to door from waterloo. i wonder if it's the right branch? i will look.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

wrong branch

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

I could go see my sister in Colliers Wood for a bit first, maybe.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

yeh wrong. but the 76 or the 243 will take you to old st from waterloo, but it is SO IRRITATING they make them stop at DIFFERENT STOPS and not only different ones but ones on DIFFERENT ROADS so ARGH you have to choose which one you want before going to get it rather than getting which one comes first argh!

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

I will be with gurl but I might be draggable if you all promise not to be scary.

Dog Latin, why are you bringing freshers? They will get drunk and vomit.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

[crap]

Have a beer with Fear, Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

we r no scary. colliers wood, madchen? if you go there you'll never come back! it is deepest darkest morocco innit. my bro is coming to this too, stevie shaw sometime of this parish but i think he r weaned himself off.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

does anyone know how late the foundry is open? i get back on the evening of the 27th so could maybe come by on my way home.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

1. Could somebody with supermodpowers put hstencil in the title of this thread cos it's only fair like?
2. You have checked the Foundry will be open, haven't you?
3. Yay!

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

aw, i'm away on the 27th. :( people better come to the pub crawl as well (if poss)!

baby i'm waiting (cis), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

sorry, gig to go to in brixton. actually, why not fap there? it's at the windmill, and occasional ilXor Catwank is in the band.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

i might be already booked on the 27th, i'll see how things go :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

Yes, exactly, fie, fie, Emsk, I am going down to Brixton to see Ver Kissing Time at Ver Windmill. (Sorry, Madchen!) But I will do my best to be at the pubcrawl. If only for the badger Golden Glory...

Kate Classic (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

so, the madchen and the stencil faps are...the same fap?

at the foundry, yes?

terry lennox. (gareth), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Shoreditch?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

thread title changed but not so as to make t lennox look silly.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

if the foundry is not open late enough we can have an aftershow at my hoose.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Damn, and the first Kissing Time gig that is near my house, and I will end up back in Hackney at yours. Typical!

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

yebbut so will teh kissing time! you should get a lift up, and make 'em fap.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Yebbut they'll have amps, and more annoyingly, English with them.

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

What kind of time are we thinking about convening? I am vaguely wondering about some pre-Foundry Wenlock action, to steel me against the discomfort of the Foundry.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

sounds like a good idea - if I get out of work I may join you for anaesthatisation

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

My immediate post-Xmas plans are less than firm at the moment, but I hope to make this. A proper pub first would suit me too, if I don't have to be in Ilford instead.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

english?? now i am confused.

if we get to the foundry earlyish maybe we can get that bit that's like a separate room but not. i dunno what i mean by earlyish though.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

Yes for nabbing that little closed off area early. Also yes for possible pre-Foundry Wenlock Action because I wuv the Wenlock. Will they look at me funny if I order four enormous black pudding sandwiches in the evening?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm sending wiley along too.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

wat es dei foudnry?

-- Carl Handwriting (doglati...), December 20th, 2005 11:49 PM. (later) (link)

it's a bar

-- Porkpie (porkypi...), December 20th, 2005 11:50 PM. (later) (link)

One of London's best pubs

I'll be there,

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

I decided long ago, Ed, that you and I have very different ideas on what constitutes a good pub. That's if I have any ideas on this matter, which I may not have. I hope my expectations are confounded, or indeed confoundryed, by this case.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

do you all work for the foundary? because you are doing a great job at making me want to go and see what all the fuss is about.

if i ever start a drinking establishment i'm so going to start a "OH AM I A PUB OR A BAR" marketing campagne.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

It gets no pints on Fancy a Pint.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Fancy A Pint rather miss the point... or maybe that's the point. Hah.

Either way it's a great pub.

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Yes but the utterly abysmal George and Dragon up the road gets a full five pints = Fancy A Pint is talking out of its bottom.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

i'm so confused.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Please stop this 'pub or bar' madness. Everyone has their mind made up.

The George & Dragon is alright.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry stence, the difference between a pub and a bar is usually in the lighting. Indicating, the desire of the punters wish to be seen or not seen. As the case may be.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

i'm so confused.

pip pip, old chap. Don't be letting the needle-laggers get your chipshops up.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

My heavy metal friend, the one who wanted rocker bars, works in a foundry. Had I known there was a bar called The Foundry, I would have taken him there. He would have been thrilled.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

It's not a rocker pub. It's a weirdo pub.

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

If you're REALLY lucky, the Worm Lady will be there, and she will read you one of her poems about worms. They're really very good. I promise.

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Is situationism "weird"?

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

worms are slimey
chop 'em in half!
oh cor blimey
I'm gonna barf

Apols to harp on about this but do any of you have any idea what time you're planning to get there? Mid afternoon? Mid evening? Madchen? Stence?

By the way, I don't know who Stence is attached to, or how she knows me. I am hoping that the mild fear is not justified.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

i'll be there around 730

calderdale in the 70s (gareth), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:18 (twenty years ago)

early!

Ed (dali), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking around 7ish as well, hopefully early enough to nab that semi-closed off bit. But if anyone fancies a fortifying Wenlock first then let me know.

(Although I fear attempting to direct Stence towards the Wenlock, which is very hidden away indeed, would be a fool's errand).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

i was thinking 5/6ish?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

I have nothing preventing an early start

Ed (dali), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Matt I'll be in touch on the day about the Wenlock, and I agree it's not an easy one to direct people towards (anyone else fancying Wenlock action is welcome of course).

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Apols to harp on about this but do any of you have any idea what time you're planning to get there? Mid afternoon? Mid evening? Madchen? Stence?

Unless I missed an announcement, neither Madchen nor Stence are times of day.

I would fancy an early start in the Wenlock. Half past Madchen, perhaps?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Stence = Hammertime, more or less. Which might make Madchen = British Hammer Time.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, 6ish? I can't get too hammered because I need to find my way back to Woking afterwards.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 22 December 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

we should be there around 8 pm. tim, my girlfriend 1ucy hur$t knows you through ga!l ch!ckf@ct0r, who may be there as well.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Marvellous. All the Lucys. What a wonderful thing.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 22 December 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

So people will be around at 6ish, yes? If I turn up they'll be people I know, right?

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

aw johnny. there will be ppl there you know. just in case, have you got your mobile fixed/replaced/whatever yet? i am planning to be there 6 at the latest, but it is only a 20-30 minute walk from my house, so if you text me when you get into town i can leave then if i haven't already.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

I haven't got my phone fixed yet, no, but if you're def. gonna be there at 6, that's good enough for me. I'm so excited, yay!

Now all I gotta do is figure out how to get there . . .

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

are you coming on the oxford tube?

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

Most probably, yeh.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

i don't think there's a bus that goes all the way there, so it might be simpler to take the victoria line north to kings cross then the northern line south to old street. there are like 857692576085726 exits at old street and none of them make sense, but i think if you take either of the ones that say old st east side (there is a north one and a south one) then keep the roundabout (the station is under the roundabout) behind you you should be ok. if you take the north side east side exit you can stop off at the primal scream chip shop!

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:45 (twenty years ago)

kill all chippies.
(sorry, I'm sure that joke's been done before)

That's brilliant - I'll take a map with me as well, but that's cool, thanks.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Yebbut they'll have amps, and more annoyingly, English with them.

Yebbut amps can go to Slantytown while English can go to hell!

Catty (Catty), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

haha is that the FCKF?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

yep it is ken.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 10:52 (twenty years ago)

i love that place. although the one next door actually does a better kebab

ken c (ken c), Friday, 23 December 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Marvellous. All the Lucys. What a wonderful thing.

A Lucy Nation.

(Joke first used in a 1967 edition of 'I'm sorry I'll read that again')

Ed (dali), Friday, 23 December 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Is it true that Bill Drummond (ex-KLF etc) owns the Foundry?

Momus (Momus), Friday, 23 December 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

Ah, I've answered my own question with Google: he helped set it up and part-owns it. Dead sheep and vikings make for a great pub, whatever Martin may say! Burn your money here!

Momus (Momus), Friday, 23 December 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Martin hasn't been there yet, and may love it. The other thing I thought might be happening on the 27th is now on the 30th, so I will be along to this, health permitting.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 23 December 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

I love that the PRML SCRM chip shop seems to have become its official name. Emsk is right in that the exits from Old St station are very, very confusing but following the ones that point in the direction of Hoxton Square should get you there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 December 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

i'll be there around 730
-- calderdale in the 70s (...), Yesterday 1:18 PM. (later)

At the risk of making a fool of myself, I'm going to guess this is Terry Lennox aka Gareth and so ask, "Would you like your records back?" They've been kept high on a shelf out of the reach of grabbing toddlers.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 23 December 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

OK< Catty, if you are going to be driving back to Hackney after you play, I'll go with youse. So long as there is no English because I'd probably punch him if I had to share another carride with him.

COME ON PEOPLE, COME DOWN AND SEE THE KISSING TIME AT SOME POINT.

Heh heh, the PRML SCRM chipshop vs. Salad Spies, FITE!

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I'll be at the Wenlock and the Foundry. It will be great to see everyone again as I have been most remiss with my FAPpage of late....

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I accidentally bought a seven day travelcard. If I come to this I won't be out of pocket.

(Until I get there.)

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

yes, it is me, and, it would be great to have those records back:)

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

bill drummond? cool.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

On paper, [The Wenlock] should be awful: it's in the middle of a less than salubrious council state, the decor hasn't been updated since England last won the world cup, it's smokey and it's full of locals who know each other's names. However once you've found it, it's a gem: some of the best (and cheapest) real ale in London, jazz music or quizzes in the evening and a genuinely friendly atmosphere. Recommended, just don't flash your 2,000 laptop around on the way there.

Are you all mental? If evwer anyone looked like they had a 2,000 laptop, it's you lot. Obviously I will blend in perfectly.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 23 December 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

i don't think there's a bus that goes all the way there, so it might be simpler to take the victoria line north to kings cross then the northern line south to old street.

the 55 goes from oxford circus to one side of the old street roundabout (by the somerfied and post office, i think), but depending on traffic it may be quicker to go via tube.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

anyway, i'm very sorry i won't be in town for this. hstencil and his cute girlfriend are great fun (so is madchen but ppl already know that).

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

i don't know that! i suppose i will find out. but hey lauren, you're still in nyc when i get back, right?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

On paper, [The Wenlock] should be awful: it's in the middle of a less than salubrious council state, the decor hasn't been updated since England last won the world cup, it's smokey and it's full of locals who know each other's names.

On paper, this means it should be brilliant! Fancyapint is usually talking nonsense with things like this. The area is no more or less salubrious than the rest of Shoreditch (ie, not very).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Well, I want someone to hold my hand.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

I'll hold your £2,000 laptop if you want.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

the smokeyness sounds pretty rubbish though.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

the 55 goes from oxford circus to one side of the old street roundabout (by the somerfied and post office, i think), but depending on traffic it may be quicker to go via tube.

yeh i didn't mean no buses that went to old st at all! but i know johnny doesn't trust himself in That London to get off buses and onto other ones going the right way, so rather than suggest that i thought it made more sense to direct him to the tube...

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

i figured that's what you meant. i mentioned the 55 bcz it's the only one that goes direct from o.c. tube.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

AH, i get the confusion now - the oxford tube is a bus that goes from oxford and gets into london victoria, i didn't mean oxford circus tube. there isn't one that goes from victoria, i think...

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

I make no promises because I spontaneously developed shut-initis after Tuesday. And may have to escape to the country for therapeeeeee.

Bubble Memory (Barima), Friday, 23 December 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

hstencil, can i be really cheeky and ask if there's anyway you can put those endless boogie albs on a disc for a poor deprived britisher? they are IMPOSSIBLE to find in the UK (i'm sure i can burn you something sweet in return - ty)

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

come, come! we can um bring a sprig or something and make you feel like you're in the countryside!

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

oh dude ward, fuck, i wish you asked earlier. i'm at work and going straight from here to the airport. j3sp3r is supposed to come in today, though, so i'll ask him to burn some stuff if i get the chance.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

the oxford tube is a bus that goes from oxford and gets into london victoria

aha! i didn't know that. yeah, from victoria probably best to just stay on the tube.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

thanks stence

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 23 December 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

bounce :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 December 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm keen to be there, what with having spoken to no one (other than via AIM) since leaving the pub that Carsmile and others were in on Friday night. Are there people meeting in the Wenlock before or what? What time is anyone else getting there or the Foundry?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 December 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

me an my bro will be at the foundry for 6, possibly earlier, as will johnny b.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 26 December 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I'm up for this, fersher! But I can't be arsed to read this whole thread. Can anyone recap?

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Monday, 26 December 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Dog, Foundry from about 6 tomorrow, possibly with some action at the wenlock arms action beforehand.

Ed (dali), Monday, 26 December 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Argh, argh, I am Kate, I am not Emsk, even though I am still at her house and have not escaped the terminal velocity of Dalston yet... mmmm, I just delivered warm mincepie.

Errr... Like I said, I'm going to the Kissing Time and slightly annoyed that I shall have to go all the way home for that, and then come all the way back out to the wilds of Hackney again.

The Hills Are Alive With Celibate Cries (kate), Monday, 26 December 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Mad snow forecast as well - someone better bring a camera for the inevitable FASF (Fancy a Snowball Fight).

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Monday, 26 December 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

hmmm, work is making this seem all the more difficult :(

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 26 December 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm confused now, is it Emsk or Kate coming along tomorrow, or both? I'm assuming both - Emsk, should I bring your coat along?

I've got quite attached to it though - anyone know where I can buy a full-length military coat in London? Wobs money burning a hole in my pocket and all...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 December 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

I'll sell you my RAF raincoat, Mr DC, if you like.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 26 December 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

I demand pics of this all!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 December 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I'll see what I can do :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 December 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 26 December 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

kate an me are both comin. i'll be there between 5 and 6 with bro in tow; kate is going to teh kissingz times in sw9 then heading back up to hackerney to arrive prob sometime after 10.30. matt you can bring my coat if you like, it'll be easy for me to take it home, but if you're that into it you can borrow it for the rest of winter - at the moment i seem to be wearing another one that i inherited from my uncle (it's got buttons with anchors on!).

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

Damn, Emsk must have been reading this under my login last night. Or I was posting under hers. I don't know. I wasn't even drunk.

I got confused for a minute there with all the snow, but it doesn't look like it's going to be a problem now. It's so annoying, as I'm still in Hackney and it would be really easy to go from here to the Foundry, but I have to go home and check on my house (I think it will get lonely if I don't go and see it) and then go see the Kissing Time at the Windmill.

ALL YOUR BASE NOW BELONG TO SYCORAX!!! (kate), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

CHances are it'll still be there, it won't disappear Mr Benn stylee.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

You never know. It might get in a huff and storm off. It is my house, after all.

ALL YOUR BASE NOW BELONG TO SYCORAX!!! (kate), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

I've got quite attached to it though - anyone know where I can buy a full-length military coat in London? Wobs money burning a hole in my pocket and all...

there's a great shop called Laurence Corner, just north of Warren Street tube, which may well be able to satiate your need, Matt DC.

So...er, I'm a bit confused about all this. So Kate, I'm def going to see the kissing time in brixton, but i'm happy to turn up 30 seconds before they hits the stage - any idea what time they're on?

my thinking is, meet at the foundry at 6ish, then bugger off to brixton at, i dunno, half 7, and then maybe come back to hackney/kilburn later, or perhaps stay at my mate's in brixton as i have to pop in to see her sometime today.

emsk? kate? timing? thoughts? CONFUSION!

ps. good to see prmlscrm kebabs is still around! i'm sure i coined that phrase years ago, around the same time as emsk coined saladspies. we deserve PRIZES.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

i think i only posted as me. i don't think kate posted as me. odd. chuck, i think all of us coined that prmlscrm kebabs thing simultaneously cos i have a distinct memory of saying it then lmao for the next six hours and saying it to anyone i could find. we were trying to figure out what time the kissing time are on and we think it might be 9. but not sure. check the windmill's site...

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Windmill website is teh useless for timings.

But assuming they're supporting, and there are only two bands, and doors are 8pm (all reasonable assumptions), they'll be on shortly before 9 I guess.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

just texted you some help, charlie.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

done

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Sorry - I'm not going to be coming out. My depression has very much got the better of me again. I hope I'll see people on Thursday instead.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

London ladies, get out there! Madchen is the only woman in the pub (apart from teh barmaid).

stet (stet), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm on my way from snowy Palace... Will be bringing Gareth's records but, in the light of the weather, I'm not going to risk hauling the small cache of Xmassy things I have for certain ILXors across town. Later in the week, perhaps.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

I'm sad I couldn't stay to meet stence, and to see Jones the steam too.

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

btw - reporting back, The Foundry is most definitely a bar, and a nasty one at that.

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

The Foundry is too fucking cold. Especially in December. Get one heater.

On the other hand, I met four ilxors for the first time tonight. There's a lot to be said for shaking up the FAP formula every so often. Lovely to meet all of you.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 00:58 (twenty years ago)

Did girls turn up, or was madchen left to be all girlified on her ownsome?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

There were girls there all along, Madchen was in the wrong bar ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Was it the Steelworks from the Simpsons?

I went along, but probably too late. I walked past the Foundry without noticing, and by the time I walked back, 20 minutes later, it was definitely too late.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

So did anyone get photos?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

i did. but i need to get them developed.

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

I have several photos containing people whose views on having their photos on the internet I don't know.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

gareth's visage, is of course no strager to the modern internet.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

i like the way he's coordinating with your coat ed.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Sorry I didn't make it up, but as it turned out, the band that the Kissing Time were supporting ended up not making it, so I ended up having to do an impromptu solo set as their support act. Much fun was had. Much booze was drunk. The Windmill has stopped even pretending that they close so we drank until way too late in the night.

TKT were really very very good, though. And the CD that they gave me is AMAZING. I'm not just saying that coz they're mates, it actually surprised me how good it was (that really sounds like a bit of a backhanded compliment but it's not).

ALL YOUR BASE NOW BELONG TO SYCORAX!!! (kate), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

oh bugger, i could've stayed longer at the windmill? i can't even remember why i left. i didn't get a cd, dammit.

nice to meet some people at the foundry anyway. fun night.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Smashing evening but, er, nasty lavs...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

That's a better class of graffiti, from the animal rights activism to the deconstructionist gender-bending of "S/HE IS HER/E".

Momus (Momus), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

the foundry bogs are the stuff of legend! c'mon, you have to admit those pics make them look pretty cool.

and i've just noticed my ex-girlfriend's ex-band seem to have passed through at some point...ha.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Your ex-gf was in The Monkees?!? WOW!

Mooro (Mooro), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Momus is right about the graffiti, actually. The lavs were pretty unpleasant though. And the chairs reminded me of furniture in neglected student digs.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Legends ain't what they used to be...

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

it is a bar aimed at a very wide demographic:

art students

people who used to be art students

people who want to be art students

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Fun night had be me anyways - nice to see people who I've not seen for a while, and meet people who I'd never met before. All good stuff and more.

As for whether the Foundry is actually any good or not . . . well, it strikes me as the stuff of legend. The problem with legends is that for those unaware of said legendry status, it might come across as a bit crap. Maybe it's one of those places that it takes time to form an opinion on. Nice organic lager, tho.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

foundry sounds horrid

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 29 December 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

i liked it. i thought it was good.

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Thursday, 29 December 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

heh. sorry i missed this. porkpie what is your organic beef with art students?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 29 December 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

They don't buy sausage rolls.

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 29 December 2005 10:50 (twenty years ago)

well, there is that, but generally I don't have one. But I am not part of that demographic am I? I found the place scruffy, dirty, cold, the toilets absolutely bogging and the beer wasn't all that (I only tried the organic bitter mind you) and the music was, a couple of songs excepted rubbish :o(

Porkpie (porkpie), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:02 (twenty years ago)

But apart from that, it rocked.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Yeh, it was bloody freezing. I don't mind the scruffiness, but the chill turned it from a potentionally interesting vaguely pretentious pub into a student flat in which nobody could afford 50p for the meter.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

the music was, a couple of songs excepted rubbish

You missed J0sh G3nn3t tickling the ivories. I kept my three layers on the whole time I was there.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Hello! It was nice to meet everyone new and to be surprised by the non-ilx friends I didn't realise were going to be there. That bar was horrid, but had some OK graffiti:

"Fuck a woman, make her happy"
"Not the way I do it, sonny"

stet (stet), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Fucks sake, he's been playing on my computer again.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

ho! the last two lines and sign-off of yr 11.37 post will make for a WONDERFUL out-of-context quote at some point in the future.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I just read that and thought it *was* from stet and also roffled at his bravery at posting something so destined for out-of-context use (even though I know the two of you keep posting as each other, I also though stet might have gone down to London).

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 29 December 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

Mädchen did you get a txt from Alix re Friday?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 29 December 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

wasn't the point of the place that it was supposed to be a bit rustic and distressed? The beer wasn't bad, and quite cheap too. And I'm sure Drummond must run it for practically nothing, considering it's location and prices etc.

Carl Handwriting (dog latin), Thursday, 29 December 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

nobody introduced me to dog latin. : (

had a great time otherwise, tho. about to head out to holborn in a bit.

hstencilinium in londonium (hstencil), Thursday, 29 December 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

waht is Porkpie talking about, the organic bitter was marvellous stuff! But it was far too cold in there. And yes, this is the first time I've seen ILX since the FAP.

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 8 January 2006 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Mark, I had just come from a place that did very good beer indeed, that stuff was so meh in comparison.

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 8 January 2006 18:41 (twenty years ago)
