What's Your Name? Who's Your Daddy?

Better yet - what the heck y'all look like?

I'd go first, but I don't think I actually have a likeness of meself on the 'web at this point & time. Though I might - will have to spelunk.

Too bad I threw out all the pics of me circa 1995 when I had my dorm floormates shave my head for shits & giggles. Ah, well.

(Or is there a thread about THIS in ILM, too? Josh?)

I like "Who's your daddy?" better, can we discuss that?

Here's a horrible pic of me, mmmkay? Enjoy.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It doesn't show much of you, Ally.

As for me, I'm goddamned gorgeous but I don't have a picture to prove it.

Johnathan, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I hate pictures of myself. So this will probably lead all to believe that I am really a balding 48 year old named Manny, but oh well...

Nicole, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

do i even need to respond? i think the whole world has seen 'the picture' by now.

nicole has mystique because, after all of these years, she's the one person most of us haven't seen (ned and brian, i believe have met her in person).

fred solinger, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What am I, a "glamour model"? No one says to Fred, "Well, that picture don't show much of you!" Pfff. You could always go to Otis's page of bizarre shit like axes in doors and look at the top pic - I'm in that one, but honest to god that's the worst picture I've ever seen of every single person in it.

And you still don't see much more of me.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You are gorgeous, Ally. But not as gorgeous as me.

Johnathan, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No one says to Fred, "Well, that picture don't show much of you!" I have made a reslution to be nicer to Fred. Curse you, Ally, for lobbing that beautiful stright line my way at a time when I can't capitalize on it. Curses, curses, curses.

Oh, my picture? I don't have a solo one, but there's one of me and my wife floating around that may not come up in your browser. There's another set of pictures at my college roommate's website from our wedding which feature me either fading into the background or lookng crazed (which pretty much sums up my two main modes of operation).

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Note to idiot self: B != P

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll vouch for Jonathan, he's the most gorgeous person on this board. TOTALLY hot. Almost Richey-hot, you all really should see a pic, it's a shame.

Dan, you have problems with HTML on this board and ILM quite often, I notice. Maybe I juts have attributed all HTML mistakes to you inexplicably.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well Jonathan should put a picture up!

I demand male cheesecake shots today, damnit! Is only Dan going to comply? I don't count fred, because that picture is older than Ethan.

Nicole, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't worry, girls, I'll get it sorted.

Johnathan, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A picture of me can be found on makeoutclub.com, do a search for boys in London, and I'm the, er, Evil 5th Teletubbie. Go look at my stupid grinning face, and be in awe!

DG, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You've got a really kind face, DG. I bet you're a lovely person to know.

Johnathan, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Awwwwwwww! That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me for ages. I'm getting all teary-eyed now.

DG, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm totally hot. Even fitter than Johnathon. Although I dont have a pic.

if anyone cares, you can see me at www.geocities.com/kraussss/murderingmonsters.html i'm the one playing the keyboard, the drummer you might be familiar with as pat kraus.

lady die, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

actually that should read as

www.geocities.com/kraussss/monsters.html.

lady die, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ally you have a good haircut.

lady die, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thank you Lady Die :)

DG looks like my friend Brendan from high school, but not blonde. You can wiggle both your ears? I can tie cherry stems with my tongue, and also touch the bottom of my chin with my tongue. Let's start a freak show.

I'm still waiting for Richey-Hot Jonathan's picture.

Ally, Tuesday, 12 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well I went to the photog studio and spent a few hundred dollars but I think it's worth it to impress y'all. This is the "young" one that's going to get me a part on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit one of these days. (only pic I've got up, honest!!)

Geoff, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

there are no pics of me online at the moment, although there may well be soon-ish.

what do i look like? dud, probably, heh heh. to my shame, i look like an indie boy. i have been told i look like a young jarvis cocker (different class era) but this has also been refuted, and all 'indie boys' get told they look like a young jarvis at some point don't they?

i have been known to wear a (fake) fur coat and, apparently, have *cats eyes*. hmm, just realising the above makes me sound far better than i actually am...

gareth, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Another good picture of me can be found here.

(Yes, the color of the sky in my world IS orange with grey polka- dots. Why do you ask?)

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, no, you've got your links mixed up. You're the second to the right, aren't you?

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

tracer: that picture has "bobby, the fresh-faced rookie" written all over it.

fred solinger, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, what do you know? There I am!

Fourth picture down. That lovely looking chap in the burgundy shirt, with the specs. Yeah, the one not looking @ the camera - that's my good side, by the way.

You want a frontal shot? It'll cost you some money. (My ex- girlfriend once likened me to Matt LeBlanc. Didn't talk to her for a week after that.)

David Raposa, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

Thank you Nicole for sending me back to Hootie-Hell. (I guess I deserve it for that link, but I still have little bruises on my tender heart.)

I think I should point out, though, that my brother is the one who REALLY looks like Hootie. In fact, he loves hearing that comparison even more than I do!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh well this is me about 3 years ago, my hair is shorter now. WOAH!

james e l, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn it that should be: http://www.angelfire.com/ak/superfreedworld/images/grunge.gif...D oes this work, if not I give up!

james e l, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If it is any consolation Dan, karmic vengeance has already been visited upon me.

I was just told I look "exactly" like Dana Scully. Nothing against Gillian Anderson, but I look nothing like her. The hair's about the same, but that's it.

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm beginning to think I'm related to Nicole, because I also get told I look like Gillian Anderson.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe you're my secret love child? Stranger things have happened.

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That would be extremely bizarre. I look nothing like my so-called mom though, so it could make sense.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wouldn't there have to be some bizarre temporal physics going on for Nicole to be Ally's mom? At any rate, here's the Annoying List Of People I've Been Told I Resemble (Which Is Primarily Annoying Because I Look NOTHING Like These Guys): Denzel Washington
Darius Rucker
Jesse L. Martin
my brother Darrell (people claim we look like TWINS, fer chrissake)
Shemar Moore (???? I mean, I'd be psyched if it was true, but it's NOT)
Taye Diggs (see Shemar Moore commentary)
Wesley Snipes (MURDERDEATHKILL)
Billy Dee Williams (well, just shoot me in the head, then)
Andy Dick (Okay, now I'm lying.)

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, now when I AVOID HTML, the formatting of my posts gets screwed up. God hates me, etc.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh my god, it'd be so awesome if you were Billy Dee Williams. "Hello, ladies. Here's a Colt .45, on me." Fuck yeah.

Okay, so let's cast a movie about Freaky Trigger (as if that wouldn't be the most boring movie that ever existed). Nicole is played by Gillian Anderson, Dan by Billy Dee, Fred by Joseph Fiennes, me by Elizabeth Hurley (I STILL don't understand this, Fred), WHO ELSE? Stephanie can be played by Mena Suvari, as if she has anything to do with any of this. My sister, played by Mila Kunis, will make an appearance.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dan looks like joe clair from rap city. if only ethan were here to back me up.

fred solinger, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Josh: the one picture I saw of him wasn't that clear, so I will just go with Christian Bale because this movie needs Christian Bale Tom: Greg Evigan Ned: Chewbacca

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

EVERY movie should have Christian Bale in it, hello. Josie and the Pussycats would've been way improved if Christian Bale was in every scene for no reason. And if Christian Bale was in Titanic instead of Leo DiCaprio, it'd be the best film ever made.

I get told I look like "Kate Winslet before she got fat" (which always gets us into an argument because I don't think she's fat) by a guy at work, so I could just imagine that's me getting saved from drowning by Christian Bale. I'd watch it every fucking night.

I think Tom should be portrayed by Henry Rollins, for no reason at all other than it'd amuse me.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, in the only picture I've seen he did look convincingly Rollins- y in intensity. Plus he could leap around shirtless, and I suspect this movie would need some action. Still, I think Henry is too sensible to be convinced into growing a beard.

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I bet we could get him to grow a beard. It's part of the roll, etc.

Keanu Reeves should also be in it, but I'm not sure as who.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't look like any film stars. Can I be animated instead?

Tom, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

CLEARLY Otis is played by Keanu.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, that's awesome. Otis & Ramon = Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter. Why did I not think of this before?

Either that or the guys from Dude Where's My Car?

And no, you cannot be animated, Tom, I already decided you are Henry Rollins.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no, it'd be great if he was animated, a la who framed roger rabbit? and we could all interact with him and no one would ever question once why he was animated.

or, alternately, tom could be played by hugh grant.

fred solinger, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom is an animated Henry Rollins. There, everyone's happy!

Dave Raposa may kill me for this, but based on that one picture I have to nominate the guy from "Dharma and Greg". james_e_l gets played by David Schwimmer or Dylan McDermott, can't decide which. Could someone who's seen DG's pic give him an actor before I assign someone goofy just to be a bastard (like, say, Winona Ryder)?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hugh Grant with an animated beard.

Nicole, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DG will be portrayed by my friend Brendan.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ehh...it's better than Matt LeBlanc.

(By the way, I'd prefer to have him referred to as "the guy that was in _Eyes Wide Shut_ for 2.5 seconds". More cred, you see.)

(And I HOPE you meant Greg, & not any of the other characters.)

David Raposa, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are other characters besides Dharma and Greg? Who knew?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I understand that Lloyd Cole is seeking to ditch his stalled pop career and move into acting. Now if only we could find a suitable part for him....

Tom, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, Ally, your friend Brendan must be one handsome fellow.

DG, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ha, your dad is the biggest hippie I ever seen. I should get a photo of MY dad online, he's a scary muthafucka back in the day (except in the pictures where he's drunk and grinning maniacally, then he looks like a moron, which is way cool). He's like Ramon, but angrier because he didn't have rich parents that bought him cars. And he lived in a place as suck as the Philly ghetto until they moved out to Long Island, as if Long Island is better. But he's totally obsessed with Eastern European history, particularly military, and he had a really cool jacket.

DG, Brendan claimed to be a Jedi, like, seriously. It was pretty cool. Feel honored.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My parents took me to a Hindu temple once and the priest was some white guy who looked just like Otis' dad.

Kris, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I refuse to be associated with anyone who claims to be a Jedi. Star wars sux.

DG, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Here is my dog, Delawa re. He is cuter than I.

bnw, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't believe him, the dog is cute (for a dog) but he's cuter.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude! Otie's dad was in one of my philosophy classes.

Josh, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think he was in all of our philosophy classes, Sloshee.

This is my dad, totally drunk. He's the one on the right. The other two are two of my uncles. They wear their sunglasses at night and grin like lunatics when they drink.

This one also is my dad. It was taken at Christmas time the year before I moved. He was totally drunk in this one too because, hello, it was Christmas. It also has my mom's fucking dog in it. I hate that fucking dog. Yes, it's full grown.

Looking for those two pictures, I discovered I also have one of my sister in a bikini, plus photographic evidence that I have the world's longest tongue. These are totally irrelevant to the greater point about dads, so I see no need to link to them.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, yeah, Geocities is crap, I clicked on those links and it seems that if you try to pull pictures off a non-Geocities page these days, it blocks you. That's bullshit. So click here if you actually had even vague interest in those stupid pictures that I don't even like that much.

Ally, Wednesday, 13 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My dad doesn't like philosophy at all. I don't think he's ever read a book, except for the one in that picture, which is probably on Mack trucks or pistols. I wish I was my dad (for further proof of this, see pictures of the summer where I wore nothing but my dad's old hippie clothes).

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Look, it's Mel.
Tell me I look like Molly Ringwald and you'll DIE.

Melissa W, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, uh. Maybe just in the eyes? :)

ducking,

Josh, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh... damn, what have I missed? We're all posting pictures of our parents? My family is here. Any questions as to why I turned out so weird may be answered. Oh, there are some other photos floating around on that site, but they're all really old as well. I can't find any recent photos of myself where I'm not wearing a wig, or Rattail Jim hasn't used his ugly lense on me. There used to be cute pictures of me on one of the Lollies' sites, but our %$£*&@# keyboard player took them down for No Apparent Reason. Or you can just go to Rattail.Net and search under L for the Lollies, and see some really frigging nightmarish photos.

OK, it's true. It's not that I photograph badly, I really am just that fat and ugly. :-(

(I'm the fat, ugly, blond one playing the guitar if anyone has any doubts.)

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i had wondered what happened to molly ringwald...

uses josh as a shield...

fred solinger, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think you look like Molly Ringwald at all, but if it'll make you feel better we can cast her as you in our movie.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, and Kate: I've had those cigarettes your mom is smoking. They're GOD AWFUL. They made me want to puke after having a few of 'em. Never trust Russians.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmmm. That's basically the reaction I have to *all* cigarettes, Russian or not. My mother gave up smoking anything at all shortly after that- when her father died of emphysema (or however the hell you spell it). So although it sucks that I never got to meet my granddad, well, at least I never had to smell those Zhavranis or whatever they're called!

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mel- you look like Molly Ringwald upset from having just seen Thom Yorke clad in red PVC..

*Hides behind everyone*

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're all ON CRACK!!! Thom Yorke in red PVC is SEX INCARNATE!!! You're all too afraid of confronting your secret lusts. It is true.

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I never knew that "sex incarnate" was synonymous with "bleeding profusely from the eyes". Thanks, Kate!

Someone else who has it goin' on is Camryn Mannheim, particularly when rockin' her "sophisticated lawyer" look. It's suddenly dawning o me that I find women in business wear extremely sexy (provided, of course, they aren't Calista Flockheart, who is completely grotesque EXCEPT for when she rocks that ultra-flat hairdo, at which point you can see why some might find her attractive).

Ally McBeal actually has a bunch of attractive women on it; Portia de Rossi, Lucy Liu, Jane Krakowski, Cortney Thorne-Smith, Lisa Nicole Carson... pretty much everyone except for poor Calista, actually (who WAS attractive in "The Birdcage", so it's not like it's outside the realm of possibility or anything).

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Lucy Liu = the Radiohead of sexy Asian women

mark s, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Explain? I don't quite get this, though I find both Lucy and Radiohead annoying at times so there probably is something there...

Nicole, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Personally, I now have a vision of Lucy Liu clenching her fists and advancing on me, eyes glowing, while chanting, "EVERYTHING IN ITS RIGHT PLACE," over and over and over again.

That would be kind of fantastic, actually...

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Explain: can't. It came to me in a vision on the way to the coffeemachine and I had to run back and post it before someone else did. I have no idea what it means YET I KNOW IT IS TRUE!!

mark s, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rattail Jim!!

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rattail Jim is an institution, Godbless'im!

He's been at every single Lollies gig ever. With the sole exception of the gig where Rachel got her tits out. I bet he'd have exploded.

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maaan, I've been looking for a recent picture of my dad online, cause he's a bigger hippie than Otis's dad, grew his hair all the way down to his arse after he moved to California. How could my dad start the 60s looking like Buddy Holly and end up looking like Charles Manson by the end of the 90s? California will do that to you, eh?

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh, alright, SINCE YOU'VE TALKED ME INTO IT.

for those of you (yes, you two!) who've yet to "experience" it, here is, well, me. (picture is way too bluish-purple.)

fred solinger, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, can you please get a new picture, hello? You look nothing like that at all anymore. I mean, that couldn't look less like how you currently look if it was actually a picture of someone else. I'm going to upload a new photo of you tonight and post it, goddamnit, cos I'm sick of that picture. It's played out. It's totally so 3-4 years ago - literally.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

what the fuck is rattail jim???

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A bloke who seems to come to every indie gig in London. He reviews gigs on his site using a rating system of 1 to 3 stars. This rating seems to be solely determined by the number of young women in each band. 1 star = no women in band, 2 stars = one woman in band and 3 stars = two or more. The rattail name comes from the long plait running down his back.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rat Tail Jim is a *who* not a what. Erm, if you've been to a gig in Central London any time in the past... oh... I don't know how many years. 5? 10? I've been going to shows in London for at least 3 years and seen him at every single one. He's fairly short, has long blond/salt&pepper hair in a single tail-like plait, and looks sort of disconsertingly like a Gelfling from The Labyrinth. If it's a really special show, he'll wear leather trousers with an actual tail attached.

We used to think he took photos of all these bands, especially bands with girls in them, for nefarious purposes, until we discovered that he runs a web-based photo archive of them.

Lots of people seem to be rather scared of him, but if you talk to him, he's actually a total sweetie. Just very shy. I think I'd said hi to him dozens of times before he'd actually talk to me. (Sorry, it's a by-product of having lived in North America so long- if I see someone around enough times, I *will* go and talk to them.) But he's actually lovely, and is always very nice to me.

masonic boom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hmm, didn't see him at autechre, or four tet, or piano magic recently. obviously i'm going to the wrong gigs

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Don't be silly! There are no girls in Autechre!

masonic boom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no, but there are in piano magic!

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Freaky Trigger will be adopting Rattail Jim's review guidelines forthwith.

Tom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, but girls aren't guaranteed with Piano Magic. BTW I am very annoyed at having missed that gig being a bit of fan of Glen and co. Did I miss anything spectacular?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

piano magic@spitz. they were good, but i always find it disappointing that they constrain themselves to a *band* format when playing live. this also holds true for artists rifles i think. there are some incredible records, but live it seems to become reduced to an early disco inferno meets durutti column blueprint, which is very nice but...

to my knowledge the set was all new material, bar the last track from artists rifles. the venue was unbearably hot too. so, it was good, but not brilliant...

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

if the amish were hip
6"1. 220-240 lbs , brown eyes, brown hair
massive bushy chaotic beard
i am also blind and have huge black plastic framed glasses

Rat Tail Jim is a *who* not a what. Erm, if you've been to a gig in Central London any time in the past... oh... I don't know how many years. 5? 10? I've been going to shows in London for at least 3 years and seen him at every single one.

Sounds a little bit like the modern equivalent of 'Jesus'. Now who **was** 'Jesus' and whatever happened to him?

nb most people probably haven't got a clue what I'm talking about (too young), but 'Jesus' was this character who went to all the hippy gigs eg the Sunday night ones at the Roundhouse. He had longish, receding blonde hair - combed forward, and looked/behaved like somebody from classic newsreel footage of Woodstock etc. - wild dancing right in front of the stage (letting the spirit of the music flow through him). He also carried a tambourine on which he used to bash out a reasonably competent 16ths rhythm. His heyday was the early to mid 70s, but he made the transition to Punk ok (well...he probably didn't take out membership at the Roxy but I do remember seeing him at Punk gigs at the Roundhouse, Rock Garden etc).

David, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Was he going to the Roundhouse in 1970?

If so, there's a good chance he could be featured in either "Railways Conserve The Environment" or "Discovering Railways" (70s BTF films). Yes, I know, I know, but I got "Discovering Railways" on tape the other day and will look *very* carefully during the Roundhouse scene.

Robin Carmody, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Was he going to the Roundhouse in 1970?

Well I was too young to be going to the Roundhouse in 1970, but I remember seeing him some years later, and thinking that he was in his mid '20s (or even older - but then again I'm not sure how good a judge I was at that time), so I suspect yes.

David, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oooh, must look out for him then.

Robin Carmody, Sunday, 17 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have about a zillion pics online because I'm extremely vain or something, and this one is over arty and all but then again, I am like that, but anyhoo, right, - o

Here's hoping that I haven't cocked up the html *again*. X

Kim, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You kind of look like Gloria Estefan...? Has anyone said that before? That's pretty cool.

Ally, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh jesus christ - Ally! Take that back or we'll be a feudin'!

(no - no one - ever!)

Kim, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm sorry! I meant it as a compliment - it's in the eyes. It could just be the artistic photo!

Ally, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Or rather - I mean that I'm sure she's a lovely woman and everything, so thank you for the compliment, but I just have this reactionary "thing" about her voice.

A feud could still be fun though - It'd be like the Hatfields vs. the McCoys - ILE style.

Kim, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, after much digging around, I finally found a recent photo of Paul. I have, however, used the magic of photoshop to dress him slightly better than his usual "escapee from Oxfam" Pulp stylee casual clothes.

So, here is Paul Strange.

Hmmm, I have somewhat rather predictible taste in men, do I not?

(BTW, Paul is going to KILL me when he gets home...)

masonic boom, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She DOES look like Estaban, Gloria.

-- Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes kate, i think he probably is...

gareth, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, he *likes* the clothes. That's his real hair, though. Though not for long... his damned LAW FIRM has ordered him to go and get it cut. If they touch his fringe, I'll sue the bastards.

Surely, that can't be legal, forcing an employee to go to a firm-endorsed hairdresser? This just outrages me!

(BTW, the first person to make a Pavement joke will get SLAPPED.)

masonic boom, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just looked at the Lollies pictures. Which on e are you "Masonic Boom"? The Danelectro weilding Moogaphile?

-- Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gee, Mike, how did you guess? Though we lost the Moog after the second gig, and I don't know where I can get a "Vox Continental" t-shirt. Still haven't had the guts to wear my "Big Muff" shirt onstage. ;-)

masonic boom, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DO you like your danelectro? Its a recent on e isnt it? I had this shit on e from long ago taht was all painted. SOunded kind of...woody. Dainty...I hear Jimmy Paige used on e on stairway to heaven/

-- Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've been told I look like: Toph from "That 70s show," Liev Schrieber, Fred Couples.

scott p., Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I *love* my Danny! I've wanted one my entire life, I was so happy when they were reissused. I mainly wanted one because of the weird, spidery sounds that Syd Barrett used to coax from his. And the lipstick pickups just *look* so cool.

As to the sound, they are not very versatile, but they have a very distinctive chinka-chinka light, airy, delicate, trebley sound. It's absolutely perfect for the 60s style pop that we do, though I often have to beef up the sound with a slight chorus for the more dronerock stuff. If you can get the pick-ups balanced right, you can get an almost harp-like quality out of the guitar, especially if you play up towards the neck of the guitar.

Oh god, sorry, I'm guitar geeking out. :-)

masonic boom, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Danelectro also made an odd "baritone guitar" . I played it , kinda neat but hard to play I guess, unless its kappoed. I tune my acoustic down to d , sounds rich and nice.

-- Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Here is a picture of me thinking very hard about another pint of bouze. You might find pictures of other notable ILE/M-ers on these pages if you look carefully.

stevie t, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I mean here: http://www.nodata.org/honey/sinister/people/Trousers.html of course.

stevie t, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, if anyone is curious, here's a picture of me

gareth, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gareth, you look ill. But good looking with it. Every indiegirl's dream.

Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gareth, I swear to god, I have seen you around. Possibly at various shows, and possibly in my dreams if Nick is to be believed. ::ducks::

masonic boom, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

See, that's exactly what I was talking about when I demanded male cheesecake photos.

Nicole, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait, I just realised Gareth has evil eyebrows. Nope, sorry, can't deal. (Isn't it fun to objectify yer friends?)

masonic boom, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

About time you saw my scary photo then (note use of T-Shirt which looks like a Tube Seat for blending in / London street cred): http://www.soasunion.org/opeter.jpg (Cannily taken out of context of rest of site which reveals far too much about me).

Pete, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, so this one is reaching joshphoto like overuse. It's true it was taken about four years ago, but seeing as I had one developed last week in which I looked about 14, I don't think it's all that misleading. For random, crap other ones (I don't have a scanner so my options are a bit limited), see here and um.. here.

Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry, I forgot yahoo were total cockfarmers. For the second and third photos, try here and here.

Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not turning up, Nick. Geocities won't let you link directly to a jpeg, you have to nest them in HTML in order to get them to display.

masonic boom, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nick, are you an office furniture model?

Emma, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete blends in on the tube, Nick is a model for Ikea, and Gareth is an evil-eyebrowed consumptive. What oh what does this say about the male members of this forum? ::ducks::

masonic boom, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Errm, no Emma. Not usually. But I volunteered to model some office exercises to illustrate a piece in the paper. BTW, I meant fredphoto in the post above. I used to get them confused for both being American with four letter names, but now I see the huge difference. I apologise to Josh.

Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You've got to note that this is the reason why I never use the tube these days. I fall asleep and I could be in Merton for hours.

Pete, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, for some reason I had decided that you looked like the German exchange student who's been in our math department this year. So I'm disappointed that you look nothing like him.

Maybe I saw a guy that looked like him in one of Tom's pub pictures and put the wrong name to him.

Josh, Saturday, 30 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is there an invisible table in the one picture, Nick, or am I just so drunk I don't notice it???

Ally, Saturday, 30 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nicole, um, what is male cheesecake? is that a good or a bad thing?

gareth, Saturday, 30 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's not a bad thing...unless beards are somehow involved.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Surely male cheesecake = beefcake?

I would love to be beefcake. I have a strong exhibitionist streak which is hampered by not having a body rippling with well-proportioned muscles. Le sigh.

Dan Perry, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

beards, arrrrrgh.

Ally, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey - is there a picture of Monsieur Tom on this interweb biznatch? No offense, but I need more to go on than just "Greg Evigan". I don't want to associate Tom with _My Two Dads_ any more than I have to.

David Raposa, Saturday, 7 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I look a bit like this http://www.nodata.org/honey/sinister/people/AllyBeach.html. So that's that.

Ally C, Sunday, 8 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one month passes...
joei and dan look so happy together . David and i are going to sears on Saturday and getting pictures taken in front of the powerpuff girls background. I think they are expecting us to be 6.

Hope this works!

nathalie, Thursday, 6 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey Nat, your link doesn't work!

jel, Thursday, 6 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But this one should.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 6 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh my god, does my picture show up? This morning it did but now it vanished. CRAP. Ah well maybe for the best, I look like a mess on that picture anyway.Thank god it didn't come with odorama cause I think I hadn't washed in two days.

nathalie, Thursday, 6 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three weeks pass...
More piktshers, please. Tim F has a photo on his blog and I know you've all got faces, so let's see 'em.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We've been through this, I have no webcam no scanner, please send funds. Actually better not, I dont want to cost your companys millions of dollars/pounds/whatever else while you ogle over my handsome face.

Ronan, Thursday, 27 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eleven months pass...
Dave R's picture on the March list has him looking disturbingly like David Gedge!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 30 August 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I WISH!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
me too!

Latham Green (mike), Thursday, 26 January 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

seven years pass...

This thread may be taken as 100% typical of ILE as it was In The Beginning, when all was without form and a void and the Word Was ILE. From reading it one may clear away any wispy cobwebs of nostalgia that may be accumulating about one's memories of that epoch.
