I was going to call this "Have VD with the Shimuras" but thought that might not go down so well.

Yeah, I know it's short notice and those of you who are coupled up probably already have plans for being all squishy, but still. If you're single, wouldn't you really rather spend VD jumping around listening to REALLY BOUNCY POP MUSIC sung by four HOTT CHIX0rs (OK, three Hott chiX0rs, and me)?

Support will be from The Kissing Time (also lurkers in this parish) and Sande and the Memory Machine (trust, me, they're really, really, good, spooky, amazing, musicbox type stuff.)

It's at:
The Luminaire
311 Kilburn High Road
London NW6 7JR
t: 020 7372 7123
info@theluminaire.co.uk
http://www.theluminaire.co.uk

Be there, or none of us will ever speak to you again. (j/k. Maybe.) And our demo is finally finished so yes, lucky listeners WILL be able to get their own Shimurastuff to take home.

Also, we're DJ-ing at Lovelife the night before. Just so's you know.

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

And our demo is finally finished

Ooh, is it? Is it on myspace yet?

Anna (Anna), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

No, sorry, I don't know how to put things on MySpace. I will bring copies tomorrow. I think it sounds good, but I've lost the ability to tell at the moment. (When I next see you, I will be going "I'm compressing you!" to the accompaniment of "I'm crushing your head" motions.)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

it sounds bootiful. i played it like six times when i got in last night.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

i think, hopefully, i can come to this (or, if not, the love life thing)

I don't know how to put things on MySpace.

Might this explain your crystal reports problems?

how was bruxelles?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

ummm, you know the capacity of the lumi, right? not being bitchy, but it's probably bigger than anywhere any of the bands has played before (with the extremely honourable exception of shepherd's bush,, kate!).

need a dj? perhaps plans will change.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

If letting you DJ is what will cause your plans to change, then yes, you can DJ. (Especially after how good your post-Shortwave Set set was.)

And, jeez, would you please stop TRYING to make us even more nervous about the gig than we already are? We're well aware of the capacity. But, believe it or not, The Lumi actually have a much more fair approach to draw than many other places half their size.

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

...if you can't DJ, I'd like to ask the Poptimists to DJ, but they don't seem to hang around here any more. :-(

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and also, I have neglected to mention the other band who will be playing with us - YSN. Errr... I think we may enjoy this immensely, at least on a purely visual level!

I REFUSE to let the Shimuras be outfrocked by a gang of dandies! This is Couture War!

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

i can play, apparently. which is lovely. shall i just put the new Delays album on a loop all night? they now sound like a-ha!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, so before you could DJ, you were all, "Oh, no, I have something FAAARRR more important than you lot..." but now you're all "Oh, cancel that, I'm going to DJ?"

I still haven't heard the new Delays. I need it. I know.

Also, I love how the YSN have copies of the FT as props, totally unaware of how many FT staff are going to be there on the night (and I'm not talking Freaky Trigs)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

well, it's more to do with the fact that IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY and as such i kinda have commitments in that area. but apparently now the lady would like to come to the gig, so everybody wins., after a fashion.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

This is also MY BIRTHDAY. Therefore I will be attempting to convert my crowd of adoring fans into your crowd of adoring fans.

I am excited.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

yay! And hurrah for your Lady coming along!

Matt DC, we will dedicate a song to you, as it is your birfday! (If you bring all your adoring fans along, then we will dedicate the entire set to you!)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

yay yay! you must all bring EVERYONE YOU HAVE EVER MET* to the gig.

(charlie pls do not bring Posh Adam.)

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I'm sorry, but I have got the giggles about Emsk's email. If we are to do a "guerilla gig" (sorry, but that just conjures images of monkeys hanging from the chandeliers and the like) then we must have embossed invitations and a butler to announce everyone as they come in.

x-post bah, but what about Young Adam, the CC Pirate?

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

heheh that was kind of what i was going for. i have got p*t* d*h*rty's address, shall i send one to him?

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

That one on the far-right of the YSN photos seems to have an early 90s-style 'curtains' hairdo. Possibly with undercut.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

Will there be an extra checkbox on the door questionnaire, where you have to say which band you're there to see AND whether you're one of Matt DC's army of lovers crowd of adoring fans?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

GOD NO, EMSK!!!!

(However, if you have a friend of a friend who knows where Carlos Barat lives, do ask him to pop along?)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

(And this is typical of manager misunderstanding. I think "butler" and Emsk thinks "monkeys!")

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

oh, Young Adam - pls yes to bring him so we can all have a look, thx.

xpost yes but that happens all the time. someone else thinks "tree" and i think "monkeys!" someone else thinks "the oc" and i think "monkeys!" someone else thinks "griddle pan" and i think "monkeys!"

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

why not have BOTH?

I am trying to find pictures of the actual Young Adam which do not involve houseboats...

x-post ARRRRRGGGGHHH, that is the most terrifying thing I've ever seen in my life. Make it stop. Monkey butler, a nonsense.

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

(Though actually, the real P*t* D*h*rty hired Dickon to be his monkey Butler - can we invite him?)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

the real P*t* D*h*rty in this case = Sh*n* McG*w*n?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

dickon would be welcome.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

i think i will come to BOTH lovelife AND this thing in the wilds of kilburn!

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

Ah no, I was just wondering whether you were making the point that Pete's not even original in his self-destruction.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 6 February 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

Well, the irony there being, that the story was something along the lines of Sh*n* tried to hire Dickon to be a butler at a party he was throwing for P*t* and K*t*. Or something like that.

Anyway, I'm bored of them. So last year.

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

that wasn't meant to be snarky! no one is answering ANY of my emails. it's fine, really, i just had too much coffee!

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 6 February 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

I shall be there even if I fall head over heels in loves in the next eight days (which is highly unlikely, but it would be even more unlikely that I could fall head over heels in love with someone who does not like the Shimura Curves, unless that sentence is appended with an yes). This Poptimist DJ is happy to DJ too if need be.

Oha nd I know you weren't talking about me but my self destruction is ALWAYS original.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 6 February 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

yay! Though, sorry, Pete, although we promised we would have our big mega massive Euro P!O!P! cover ready by the "next gig" it isn't ready yet. :-(

Errr... how?

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

After this weekend, I have decided that the Shimuras should cover "She's In Parties" by Bauhaus. I'm sure I'll be shot down on this idea... even though it's so perfect lyrically!

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

requests, sent to the usual address, will be ignored as usual...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

My birthday itself (as opposed to whatever drunken debauchery I do around it) is usually a bit rub, so this has the potential to be the best one ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

so for the guerilla gig, right, what am i meant to do about bouze? cos it isn't exactly a party but it isn't exactly a gig. if i was rich i would buy loads and let everyone at it, but i am not. should we just expect people to bring their own, or - i have just been talking to nobody's prawn about this and she says this is what one would do at a REAL guerilla gig - buy a load of bouze (beer, wine, spirits & mixers, like a REAL bar) and stick it in the kitchen with a plastic box and let people help themselves and pls to throw a quid in the box per drink?

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 9 February 2006 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

I would say BYOB.

I mean, the plan of selling drinks is kinda cool, but that means that someone has to keep some kind of eye on the bar and the box and all that... well, one would hope that because it's going to be mainly our friends, they would be honest, but I have a dim view of human nature.

Besides, I don't like the idea that it is a Guerilla Gig, I like the idea that it is a Private Party or Open Rehearsal or something like that.

Also, does anyone in your house have a guitar amp? I'm kind of panicking about the amount of stuffs that I have to lug across town. I was hoping that Young Adam would be able to drive me in his car, but apparently he is going drinking with his mates and is not going to be coming to the party/gig/rehearsal at all. Waaahhhh! (I am actually disappointed about his pointy nosed blondness not being there, more so than the car.)

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

(this is where I kind of put my head between my knees and breath in a paper bag and say "we can do anything we like, so long as I don't have to take charge of it!")

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Please don't make me be your monkey butler!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

i thought it was gonna be ALL people we knew? (have you invited some btw?) i'm sort of uncomfortable with the idea of selling drinks to my friends, but i'd figured if we could just do it on trust and let people take care of it themselves it would remove some of that weirdness.

eh, no amps, sorry! you could ask the kissing time if we could borrow one of theirs? they're only down the road.

xpost you don't have to take charge of it! if i'd just wanted an answer from you i'd've emailed you. i want answers from people who aren't living in the house or being in the band but are coming, or thinking of coming.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

em, i am planning to come to the guerrilla gig, and i will bring booze and also a CHEESECAKE (or er i guess it may well be half a cheesecake by saturday but still quite a lot!)

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:12 (nineteen years ago)

also i have offered k8 my living room as a future guerrilla gig site, we can discuss this then...

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know who else to invite... argh. I am losing track of who I have invited to what. This is what happens when you are doing 3 things in 4 days, you get confused. Maybe I should text some other people.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

the guerrillaz?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:15 (nineteen years ago)

guerrlz allowed?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

Do you know if AMP has sent out MySpace bulletins about these things?

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

if the gorillaz turn up they will be turned away.

the gigs are on myspace, yeh... i don't know if sending out bulletins is the same thing.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

No, you have to send out a bulletin manually. In the bulletin section. I emailed AMP to ask about it, but I don't know how much interweb access she has.

And I don't really know how to do it... OK, I'm sure I could learn and figure out how to do it, but I'm just going to do a BIG WHINGE now and say I'm sorry, but between the blog and the mailing list and everything I just feel like I have enough interweb stuff I have to keep up with and I don't want to HAVE to learn/do MySpace as well. [/BIG WHINGE]

Especially as I don't even like MySpace, it confuses me, and I haven't got a clue who half the people on our MySpace even *are* and that kind of scares me. How did they become our friends? I don't know them! Argh!

Sorry, I am going to shut up now because I'm just having a THE STRESS, THE PRESURE, THE STRESS, THE PRESSURE day and I don't want us to turn into Radiohead, I want us to be a happy fun band.

But the good news is, I've got the day of the gig off. Hurrah!

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 9 February 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

I don't want us to turn into Radiohead

Impossible. Y'all aren't ugly enough by far.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 9 February 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 9 February 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Awww, yer mean. I think Radiohead are lovely. Especially Thom. ::swoon::

I am far less stressed today. Everything is going to be alright, la la la la laaaa.

She's In Parties (kate), Friday, 10 February 2006 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

oh, good. also i saw sandra and her memory machine last nite (at pleasure unit, blech, but oh now they have made it so you can get in for cheap hurrah) and they were aces .

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 10 February 2006 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, I'm glad. I think the lineup is going to be great. I'm just stressing about all the things I still have to do and thinking OH NO WHO HAVE I FORGOT TO INVITE AND THEY WILL BE OFFENDED AND HATE ME FOR FORGETTING.

Cause if one of my friend's bands plays, and I don't get an invite, I feel all "humph! they don't love me."

She's In Parties (kate), Friday, 10 February 2006 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 10 February 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

She's In Parties (kate), Friday, 10 February 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

i bought a copy of i-D the other day - the one with the boy in reddish lighting on the front? i thought you'd be in it but didn't see any relevant article, i assumed i'd got the wrong month...

Never, ever did I expect a photo of me appearing to be pleasured by a light-up hedgehog to appear on the internet. It's also very hard to explain to co-workers why I am laughing. And yes, the Janet Jackson moment, but Lex - you are supposed to focus on the music!

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 13 February 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

Is there a decent pub near the Luminaire where I can arrange to meet people tomorrow? I've never been to Kilburn.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 February 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

the pub downstairs from the venue - the kilburn - is actually really nice. and does nummy thai food.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 13 February 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

I have, but I still don't know it well enough to really say. There's a long thin Irish (I know, in Kilburn, who would have thought?) one just over the road from the Tricycle theatre which is quite cosy.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 13 February 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

the brondes age is quite nice too.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 13 February 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeah, also about 2mins walk down kilburn high road and on the other side to lumi there's a pub on a corner next to some weird tall railings, that one's good too.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

when i went to see afrirampo in the luminaire a few months ago, we couldn't get in, so we found a pub on the same road and i don't know what it was called but i did get more trashed than i have ever been in my life in it, and ended up in canary wharf.

Oh dear lord... after seeing the photos in my inbox, it took me a moment to work out that those were M's KNEES in that photo and not something dirtier.

Great fun, everybody. Thank you so much for coming. And please come out again tomorrow. There might not be J-pop hedgehogs but there will be dancing and tits and fun. (I'm talking about birdwatching, don't be daft.)

Ohg yes, and don't forget. We're DJing tonight at Lovelife, 93 Feet East. I've just burned a load of cool cool stuff to my laptop so expect some really random stuff you've not heard in ages, and some bizarre stuff you've never heard before (Stereolab fetishists with accordion's singing "Jason, I thought I saw a UFO..." no, I'm not making this up.)

She's In Parties (kate), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Also, no, no, no, the only thing I agreed to was a Tiga remix. But only on the condition that he has to come round to my (heh heh) bedroom studio and do it there. Four Shimuras and Tiga in a bed action, oh yes!

ihttp://www.thekissingtime.com/valentine.jpg

There's a flyer, though I'm not sure you'll need one.

She's In Parties (kate), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

(n.b. I did not make it, the Kissing Time did.)

She's In Parties (kate), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

do the shimura curves have some mp3s i can listen to?

POOP BITCH (Mandee), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Is 7pm really the start time for tonight?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

There are three (well, two and a half) on http://www.myspace.com/shimuracurves

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

It does start early tonight, but I don't think we're going to be DJing until 8pm or so. I hope, as I'm so unprepared right now...

I think we have some clips here:
http://www.last.fm/music/Shimura+Curves
or here:
http://www.myspace.com/shimuracurves

I'm just confused by everything at the moment.

She's In Parties (kate), Monday, 13 February 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, is this gig going to be recorded at all?

Dan (Viral Audio) Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 13 February 2006 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

Some fucker's just cloned my card and I've just been defrauded for at least £400 :(

I don't suppose anyone wants to lend me £20 tonight do they? I can't get any cash out at all.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 February 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, okay. I won't be down until somewhere between 7 and 8.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 13 February 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

That's fine - I've got a bit in my pocket anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 13 February 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

the pub downstairs from the venue - the kilburn - is actually really nice. and does nummy thai food.

this is true.

oh yeah, also about 2mins walk down kilburn high road and on the other side to lumi there's a pub on a corner next to some weird tall railings, that one's good too.

this is also true. it's called the black lion and it's very pretty. warm and welcoming. it's also, i suspect, where the lex got legless.. i recommend it most highly.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 13 February 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Shimura girls: I have just been to a certain Leather Lane Shoe Store and the new shit's in and it's all £20 or so (there are also 'vegetarian shoes' here). Jay, the owner, says GET IN. This is the same place I got my wedge boots, yeah?

suzy (suzy), Monday, 13 February 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Noyfriend" is fantastiche.Had it on repeat 10 times when I first heard it.More please.Kate ur a legend.

Black Arkestra (Black Arkestra), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

It probably makes sense to meet up in the kilburn though. What with it being same building and all. I'll be there post Grizzly Man (grrr).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

also if you're there by eight you MUST catch sandra and the memory machine, they're fantastic.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

I'm excited now. So you should all come, even if you're in a relationship becaause Valentines' Day is a whole load of hogwash, whereas the Shimura Curves are shining paragons of love.

Honestly, like there's even a decision to be made here.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'd like to come but I'm still drunk from Sunday, so hope all goes well

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

that is not a problem! it just gives you a headstart. pls to come.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

I will there 100% in spirit! Though not in body alas.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

It's not my head I'm worried about it's my liver - plus, these days, drinking gives you mouth cancer doesn't it?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

oh, *everything* gives you mouth cancer. apparently biting the inside of your mouth gives you mouth cancer. and if that's what you're worried about then you don't need to drink esp if you're still drunk hurrah you win on health points!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Pshaw - you have been sold a pup by the Daily Mail - besides, that only happens if you are a female binge drinker (so you should catch us now, while we can still sing - uh oh Dark Humour Day)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

OK, well I woke this morning with a mouth like a female binge drinker (the opening lines to a 21st century blues song perhaps?)

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

shimura curves will kiss it better! um.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

Honestly, like there's even a decision to be made here.>

a-men!

emsk/anyone - final stage times? just trying to herd the deejaying catxorz...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I'll be in the Kilburn from 7ish. Will probably head upstairs about 8.30, depending on DJing times.

I'd go up earlier but I think a couple of people are coming for a drink but not to the gig and I'd like to spend a bit of time while the Shimuras kill them before they leave.

Last night was lovely. I'm enjoying this mini-Shimura festival immensely. Also THE LEX HAS NEVER HEARD OF A-HA!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Only because certain mean people tried to convince him that the opening bars of The Sun Always Shines On TV was actually a rare recording of Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

He believed me!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Like that justifies it! (Do I have to be nice to you and drop it, due to it being your birthday?)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

"Honestly, like there's even a decision to be made here"

There IS a new episode of CSI on Five tonight, you know.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Someone take a webcam and a laptop and a battery and a satellite and stream it here, k?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

(and a microphone, obv.)

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

There IS a new episode of CSI on Five tonight, you know.>

WELL THEN, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE VIDEO THE GIG FOR ME AND...OH, WAIT.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

i have actually heard of some a-ha songs (like 'take on me'!) but i just didn't know what the band were called! they were, like, before i was born. i hadn't heard the 'love will tear us apart' one before.

shimuras were ace djs!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

Bumpity bump. I'm bored at work and want to feel like a popstar. Love me please.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

I will have to have a postwor disco doze so will be along about 2030?

Anna, you are my favourite readheaded curve.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

But the gig will have been over for 24 years Ed AND our robot overlords may catch you!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

you'll be telling me the venue is 30 chains from the tube station next.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

ed dude you will be SO HAPPY if you get there at 8 rather than 8.30. the memory machine are a different animal to the shimuras, but every bit as wonderful and fascinating.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'll see what time I awake from my doze, blame emma she made me go to the pub last night.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

La la thank you, but AMP has red hair too. As does Emsk - manager extroinaire and hostess with the mostess.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

AMP doesn't have red hair does she? Did I sit in the pub all night last week and not notice?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

She does. Alas I am still in the land of cold/Dita von Teese and likely to be here until stupid o'clock and am gutted to miss this.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

That's an awful lot of redheads!

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

why does the large number of redheads make it suddenly impossible for anna to be someone's favourite?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry I can't come :(

beanz (beanz), Tuesday, 14 February 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

That was great. Totally fantastic gig in a really fantastic venue, with great sound. the memory machine were good too.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

:)

terry lennox. (gareth), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

Have the memory machine got a site or anything like that?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

I think they have an emsk.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

the memory machine don't have a site, but various of us are prodding them periodically to get one - a myspace is imminent, i hear., and they certainly have some wonderful demos of almost every track you heard last night.

lovely evening, folks - thanks to all who played and showed up :-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

God, I love the Luminaire. It's my favourite venue in North London. (No disrespect to the lovely Lumi, it's just the Windmill is my local.) I'm still kind of processing everything from last night.

Thank you so much to everyone who came down! Thank you to all the other bands, it was such a rarity to have a night where I enjoyed every single other band. Thanks to our amazing DJs! Thank you my mum, thank you, the music industry, thank you our fans, you love us, you really love us, and most of all thank you to my amazing bandmates. Even the BITCH who drank the last of the pink wine! ::rolls around on floor in catfight over the champagne bottle::

No, really. Good weekend, good night. Yay!

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

luminaire is nice.

can't say the same about windmill (terrible venue! but i suppose if
it's your local it helps)

brondesbury could do with some better transport links @ midnight, though.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

West hamstead thameslink, last train at 0042.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Really? See, I tried to tell Young Adam that we could get a train after the gig, but he insisted on driving. Just as well, as we got a midnight ride around the roundabouts of South London - plus! We got to see AMPy's fantastic new GOLDFINGER FLAT!!! I am totally jealous of her views.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

Tube was running til 12:30. But some bastards left to get a cab when the party had been whittled down to four.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

tube was going stupid places :(

as did the cab, i suppose.

should have taken the bus.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

Tube went to Kings Cross (with a quick change). Bish bash bosh. In by 1.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

The irony being, we took the wrong tunnel going through Blackwall and ended up in Blackheath anyway! :-D

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

(I love how all UK threads eventually come back to transport.)

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

they think that they tricked pete and i

no, it was they, who were tricked

terry lennox. (gareth), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

Indeed. But back to the res. Shinura Curves were great and did my request! We danced, they danced and the new songs were ace too. The Memory Machine were great too - sign them up Emsk!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

I am waiting for photos of the evening - including backstage shennanigans of Matt's Birthday Present. ;-) (Young Adam witnessed our pre-gig rituals and was, erm... pleasantly perplexed.)

I am so glad that people were dancing! that made me very happy.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah excellent gig, lovely bands and lovely venue - quality entertainment. Transport home was ill-judged, yes.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

i am RUINED today, ugh. all worth it though, awesome gig (and lovely venue as well! even if it was impossible to find) and i got to spend a night in a goldfinger flat.

i have had 'neufriend' stuck in my head all morning.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

We have got to resolve this Neufriend/Noyfriend discrepency.

(Also, I'm kind of scared where it gets to the point where the audience start shouting for songs by their fake names, yes, I'm looking at you, "Sex Viking" Barran.)

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I said to Amp afterwards that the song's full title should be 'Neufriend; or, Stop Being Such A Fucking Cunt'

(btw, what does the chorus actually mean? i kind of can guess but i don't know any german!)

(also are you planning to put all the lyrics on the internet somewhere?)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Nazi's Nicked My Boyfriend!!!

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

The KKK Took My Baby Away!

Black Arkestra (Black Arkestra), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

That was fantastic. The Luminaire is a lovely venue, isn't it? I kind of wish I'd eaten some of that Thai food beforehand though. Ugh, ruin (in the proper Hopkins use of the term, as the good Lord intended).

Pink champagne is the most Shimuras drink ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Also, getting Happy Birthday sung to you onstage, Marilyn Monroe style = hottness.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Lovely evening, thank you all for coming. Kisses.

x-post - I've always wanted to do a Monroe Happy Birthday.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! And for those of you who either missed Sande and the Memory Machine, or who saw them and want to see them again, they are playing tonight (Thursday) at:

What will tonight bring!?!

Marie Lloyd Bar - Hackney Empire - 289 Mare Street - freeee

Stage Time now 9.15pm

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

I think that's tonight (Wednesday) and I wish I could go but I'm feeling vv tired and manky, even though I ran away as soon as the SCs finished in an attempt to get to my bed at an reasonable hour.

I had a lot of fun though, it was aces.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my god, I don't even know what day it is! Sorry! That's how tired I am. ::snores::

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

If it's tonight (thursday) it clashes with a Folk gig, if it's tonight (wednesday) then it clashes with me having a first QNI for a good while.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

Seeing as I'm even forgoeing SEEEXXXXX with the pointy nosed blond boy for a QNI tonight, I guess I was hoping it would be tomorrow.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Least you won't be at work until 11:00... Oh yes. Where are the photos? I am feeling demanding today!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

it is tonight it is.

anna my jumper smells like your scarf now.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, making this thread reg users only has unintentionally locked out one of my bandmates. So I can tell you, authoritatively, that it is NOYFRIEND!!! Not Neufriend, not My "Friend" John, not YOU DID A BAD THING AND YOU ARE A BAD MANG AND NOW I HATE YOU, ARRRGH ARGGH, DIE FUX0R!!! but just Noyfriend.

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

How about (An)Noyfriend.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

what kind of a noise annoys a noyfriend?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand how that happened. My scarf smells of my perfume, so I reckon I somehow transfered Mitsouko smell onto you.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

...the sound of women actually expressing opinions (that contradict theirs), or expecting actual, you know, support and other relationship type expectations out of a relationship...

x-post

She's In Parties (kate), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

yes, it was when the scarf was here it was on the jumper.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

haha the answer is actually an annoying kind of a noise annoys a noyfriend but i guess same diff.

There was a missed photo op from my vantage of Alex in the DJ booth singing along to 'Noyfriend'.

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

I meant to take more photos but half the time I forgot I had my camera with me.

Thank you SOOOOOO much to those who came last night and my apologies if I appeared to some like a social retard. Work has totally knocked me for six of late.

Can't wait for our next show. Barima, we need to discuss stuff!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Is teh woman in those photos a social retard? Hmm? No.

I am so tired. And I am still in the office. Sodding Brit Awards.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

What's this about Anna's boobs?

x-post. Hello Anna!

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

I bet Alex there would be a Madonna/Britney moment to complement Anna's wardrobe malfunction from Saturday. Of course, I won.

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

Woah! My boobs did not fall out last night. Saturday yes, Tuesday no. Or did I miss something?

Hello Nick!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yuo all looks teh hott.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 16 February 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

I bet Alex there would be a Madonna/Britney moment to complement Anna's wardrobe malfunction from Saturday. Of course, I won.

Wait, so which of us was Britney and which of us was Madonna, then?

(I'm a big slag; I snogged the Kissing Time onstage as well. I guess that makes me Madonna.)

I heart my boobs. That is the best photo of me ever. Just the best bits of me.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

kate, you and marianna kissed, but there were no tongues so barima won no bets.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, I know I kissed Marianna! (I might be straight, but even I wouldn't forget kissing a chick that hot!) I was just wondering which one of us was Madonna and which one of us was Britney.

She's In Parties (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

you should have kissed your watched when the kissing time were on.

and everyone would have gone "ha ha ha ha ha witty"

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

watch, not watched

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't own a watch.

Anyway, I think that the blonde half of the Shimuras should form a solo project called Boris and the Johnsons.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Folk spin-off project clearly.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 16 February 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, wait. I think we neglected to mention. There will be a REAL LIFE Shimuras Pash-Fest at the Bull (in Clerkenwell, NOT on the Archers) on Sunday, 26th February.

Come down, have a roast dinner, relax, chat, gossip, listen to some choons and there will be Shimuras surprises. (Read: we haven't actually figured out what we're going to do with our night yet - if we're going to play records or perform, or watch movies, or possibly all at once.)

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Friday, 17 February 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

kate, you and marianna kissed, but there were no tongues so barima won no bets.

Nice try, but as Anna's wardrobe malfunction didn't involve a Timberlake stand-in, the girls can get away with no tongues.

Hal! Jordan! HAL! JORDAN! (Barima), Friday, 17 February 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

Has someone already noticed how Stronger is really great?

When downloaded, the tag says it's from the "Captured the castle EP" - so there's a release on the way?

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

(... really great too?)

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

Please please please come and play in Glasgow?

(also is there stuff on your demo that isn't on your myspace and if so can I have a copy please?)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

Ailsa, there is a track on our demo that's not on MySpace called 'I Captured the Castle'. It's lovely! I might be able to do you a copy.

Can we play in Glasgow? Please? I would really like to visit again.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

I'm supposed to be driving you all to Glasgow at some point.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 06:08 (nineteen years ago)

Even ailsa?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

All curves at least.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

Considering we can't even seem to coordinate the Curves to all be at gigs in London right now, I can't imagine how we're going to coordinate a Glasgow field trip. :-(

I would like to play in Glasgow, though. I've said this before. The boys there are apparently super-hott.

Thanks, Stan, glad you liked the track.

And I feel like the Comma Police lately WRT our song titles, but it's I Capture The Castle. Like the book/film. I didn't know our EP was going to be called that; it's news to me. Blimey. I feel so out of touch.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

pash fest in happening at a football pub shockah!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

It's not a football pub.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

Wait a minute, I've never been there. *Is* it a football pub? If it is, I'm not going. >:-(

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

from your own fancyapint link!
http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub284.htm

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

That says it *used* to be a footie pub. Though it's hard to wash that stench off the walls, I'm sure we'll try.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

I've been to that pub, it's not remotely footballish. Pleasant enough though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

doh. oh well it doesn't start until the footie finishes on sunday anyway.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Is it where Charlie's club was last year?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

I think so. He was bitching about it in email. And also complaining that it was the same night as some Chris T-T thing. Like, whatever.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

humph.

yes it's where such great heights was in november. it's a lovely place, the staff are great, it has nice beer and the food's meant to be luch too. and it's about as much of a football pub as i am...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

(nb. i am not much of a football pub)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

You're saying you used to be a football pub but now you've been re-fitted, Charlie?

I would like to come to this but I will not be here. That is a shame, for me.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

i'm saying i am now a classy suburban bistro with bread sticks and a challenging selection of new world wines on offer.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

but kate surely the lyric you sing in 'i capture(d) the castle' is in the past tense!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's present tense. At least, it was written in the present tense. My bandmates are always changing the words to songs afterwards.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

What are the times for Sunday as I have early doors engagements but would love to be there for surprises (not be one obv). Demo is excellent by the way, had a good spin Saturday night and has popped up more than it probably should have on random at work (random my arse, by computer has taste).

I think the urgency of the present tense in I Capture The Castle is what makes it so powerful.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Yay, I'm glad that you like it! Heh heh, I put in special programming code to make it come up more in random playlists. (I wish.)

Actual hours of Sunday are 5pm to 10pm. No idea when the surprises are - in fact, I've no idea what the surprises will be yet! (Then they will really be a surprise) But I'm sure that they will be great.

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

guys... GUYS! hey! yeah, you lot, the ones in london, sat at home on a sunday afternoon on the interweb. don't do that, do this instead! come to the bull! something for all the senses: your EARS will be caressed by sweet beats, your TASTEBUDS delighted by fine food and fine wine, your NOSE will be pleased with the homey aroma of pubbe, your EYES will gaze on such beautiful ladies you have never seen the like of before, and, um, i dunno, if you're really nice one of them might let you TOUCH her fair skin. also your SOCIAL SENSES will be aroused and excited by the company of good people to gossip, chat, giggle and debate with. and i'll be there too. and you won't feel like you've wasted the end of your precious weekend. come! come! to the bull! it's in angel! it is not a foopball pub!

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 26 February 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

the homey aroma of pubbe

i totally misread this line

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 26 February 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

It *IS* a sodding football pub. :-(

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Monday, 27 February 2006 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

Argh. I fell asleep aster a strenuous afternoon of house cleaning and woke up at 9pm, like a total retard. Sorry to everyone and especially Anna (yes the mary jane action is RIGHT here and I am talking about SHOES).

suzy (suzy), Monday, 27 February 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

I gave into temptation and used my duvet day at work, which I'd kind of been saving for job interviews but this seemed more important at the time. Still, lovely evening, especially impromptu chorus of Stronger as the pub closed.

Although, being at home meant I was here to see my downstairs ceiling collapse and I'm spending my day off waiting in for various people to turn up :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 27 February 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

HURRAH FOR SHIMURA CURVES!

Now come and see me DJ at 93 ft East tonight y'all.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 27 February 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

You should totally come to Glasgow. Ally will book anyone, esp. girls.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

i'm sorry i missed yesterday, i was in a (non-football) pubbe in surrey. post-mortem please!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

i was going to come, but had to work.

so what was football about the pub?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, ally is a rather indiscriminate bonker, when it comes to girls

RJG (RJG), Monday, 27 February 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

that was close

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

to a joke

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 27 February 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

cutting

ken c (ken c), Monday, 27 February 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

booker

RJG (RJG), Monday, 27 February 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

Shimuras are playing the Truck Festival this year! Hurrah hurrah! I am so super uber duper pleased! (They never would have any of my bands before, so we must be doing something right.)

But you better get your tickets soon, as they have sold more than half of them already.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

When is?

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

july 22nd-23rd. somewhere in a field in oxfordshire.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

It is the sort of thing you would really like, Ed. (I state this with complete confidence as someone who has never been.) But it is on a PROPER FARM and all the bands play ON THE BACK OF A TRUCK.

I think this is the only way that the Shims will ever be anywhere near the back of a truck, but still.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

well... the back of 2 trucks. ed i do think you'd dig it. loads of bands of all different kinds, no corporate sponsorship, no ringtones, propah beer and cidah, v friendly people.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like glastonbury to me..

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

Bum, I have a wedding to go to on the 22nd, I'm cooking for it as well.

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

it is like what i always think glastonbury must've used to be like.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, that's a shame, Ed. Still, that will be good.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

"The full line-up will be around 100 bands, across six stages (The Truck Stage, The Trailer Park, The Barn That Cannot Be Named, The Lounge, The Acoustic Tent, The Theater Stage)."

I strongly suspect that what Glastonbury used to be like = mostly rubbish.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

Meanie.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

That's Andrew's job, though. To be Mr. Brightside. ;-)

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

I think the other Andrew looks much more like Brandon Flowers than me.

There's FAP&F OXON #2! from a few years ago (and Kate on another thread going "Die, Truck Festival DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!"). If you start a proper one it should probably be on ILM, what with it being, you know, about music.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Well they wouldn't let me play that year. Or any other year. Because they HAAAAAAATED me. It's ok to wish DEATH DEATH DEATH on people that HAAAAAAAAAAATE you.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

Argh sorry I'm just being grumpy for no good reason - IE there is an actual reason (because I don't have an actual interview for a few days => I can't knuckle down and prepare but must feck about on t'internet instead) but the reason's no good.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Awwww. I'm sorry you're grumpy. I've finally escaped from a week-long grump, but that's due to the Seven Brides For Seven Dirty Dronerock Irish Brothers last night.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

gareth told me, about mainline.

for shame. they have been the "next big thing" here since about 2001, I think budweiser must have a stake in them.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 3 March 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, they're cute, but I hardly see them being the Next Big Thing. they have a fairly niche appeal. It just happens to be my particular niche.

The problem is, I think, that in order to actually be NBT on a hype level, they would have to dispense with most of the things I found interesting about them and become bland enough to be a Skinny Indie Rawk Band. I'm sure they could pull a Verve or a BRMC but it would destroy what's good about them in the first place. :-(

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, this is the wrong thread. Help!

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think this is the only way that the Shims will ever be anywhere near the back of a truck, but still.

You forget that my heritage is the back bush. I've been driving trucks since I was five years old, yo, and been riding around on the backs of them for longer!

(Note: this is not code for riding boys on the backs of trucks. That is just EWW. Well, wirh the boys that were in my vicinity at the time, that would be EWW. I have never had a beaut root on the back of a ute either.)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Marianna, you can drive the tourvan, then! Hurrah! You can be like Nico driving the Velvets bus, all glamourous in the front seat. (Except please do not "forget" your passport or drivers liscence because you do not want people to know what age you are.)

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

I would love to! Although I only have an Australian drivers licence, which might be problematic...

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

you're australian???

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Which side of the road do they drive on?

I mean, how could would it be to get one of these:

http://www.campers2go.co.uk/

(Unfortunately, they are in Stoke On Trent and we could hardly ask Pashmina to pick one up on the way down.)

In London/Essex they seem to be more about £130-£150 a day. Ouch. But split between 5 or 6 people that might not be so bad.

http://www.chariotsmotorhomehire.co.uk/prices.htm

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

The Shims, on tour:

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Even better, a big PINK one, with an extra trailer to carry all our pretty dresses (and Kate's pedals):

http://www.mplant.com/trip/200505/tourbus.jpg

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I'm Australian!!!

They/We drive on the left hand side too, I'm thinking problematic in terms of renting with an Aussie license (having lived in the country for five years). It might mean paying premium for insurance or something. I dunno.

That pink bus is AWESOME. I want, I want!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

pink bus full of pink wine!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

How on earth are we going to get our pink wine on the site? No glass bottles allowed in! We're going to have to buy pink wine in BOXES!!!

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

boxes of wine is the way forward for festivals anyway, whether glass is allowed or not. speaking of the way forward, where the hell is johnney b?

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

COME BACK JOHNNEY B!!!

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Decant into plastic bottles. Mmm, plastic pink wine.

robster (robster), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Jerry Cans

You are making me have evil thoughts about ditching my friend(who I've known for longer than any of you lot)'s wedding.

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

Don't you dare, Ed. There will be other festivals and other tourvans.

All Is Wub (kate), Friday, 3 March 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

IT'S OUT THIS WEEK!!! I KNOW IT IS OUT THIS WEEK, I'VE SEEN PICTORIAL EVIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The i-D with us in it, that is. Ha-HEM.

I know I said I didn't believe it, but still. I'll be wearing dark sunglasses for the next week, darling.

EAT SHITE AND DIE, KATE MOSS, I IS A FASHION MODEL NOW!!!! HA HA BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'm Not Afraid Of Edgy Style Magazines (kate), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

kate i flicked through i-d several times about an hour ago, and not only could i not find the shimurapicture, i couldn't find ANY bailove piece at all! despite it being listed in the contents (helpfully sans page number). am i being blind or has there been another fuck-up?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

PAGES 42 TO 43!!!!!

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, the NEW issue is not a B/W cover, it's colour.

There were TWO fuckups, I know whose faults they were and the editor is going to kick some mother-lovin' arse because of it.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

ah so the new issue is not the one with mary j blige and chris brown in it? that's the one still on the shelves.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

No, no, it's the one with Patricia Schmid (boyish looking brunette chick) on the cover in colour.

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

Also, since this thread is revived now, I might mention we've got another gig booked for Monday 24th April. At the Windmill, Brixton. If Anna doesn't go to NYC that weekend and I get back from York in time!

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

We should book york.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

The York

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, we should. But this means I have to be home on the Sunday night now. Are we going to take the train? I assume yes. But we should probably plan this on either the Rolling Walking thread or the British Steam Power thread! As the other Shims do not share my evil trainspotting ways.

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Must mention to James and Abrose, we should depart for a better thread though.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

British Steam Power!

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh shit... the Truck Festival has already sold out, before we even got a chance to start publicising it. The only way you can go now is to work there!

I'm Not Afraid Of Singularities (kate), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

I might have a spare ticket :( I'll know by the middle of April (not much use, I know).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 9 March 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)
