xpost the reason why Papa Johns doesn't mystify me is because of the Dan Marino ads. Those are pretty clear cut to me. Also: no "popping" or "stuffed crust."

I don't think Pizza Hut had any close access to the U of M campus(either central or north). Domino's was all over the place, tho. Enterprising store owners would set up stands by the sidewalks, or load up the delivery trucks to offer $5 pizzas to passersby on the way home from football games. Little Ceaser's was in the Commons on north campus(until it became a McDonalds! huzzah!).
Then there was Cottage Inn, which ruled over all, and was a regional chain. Uno's moved out years ago.

Papa Johns is now selling something called "Spinach Alfredo Deluxe Pizza"??? It's on sale right now, so I maybe will try next time I get a pizza??? Also the hawaiian barbeque chicken has been added to their menu. Note: I do not actually work to Papa Johns, I just went on their website which allows you to order pizzas online without ever having to speak to another human being, which is cool.

I should have clarified, then. The other franchises are in the suburbs of the city, but not really all that accessible on foot from campus.
But if you want to get pedantic and list every one, let's go thru them, then:
California Pizza Kitchen -- briarwood, you ain't gunna hoof it there
Chuck E Cheese's-- way the hell out in the suburbs, by the highway
Cottage Inn Pizza--i did mention Cottage Inn, which is a regional/local chain, but sure as shit not national when I was in town
Hungry Howie's Pizza & Subs -- again, way the hell out on the west side of town, by the highway
Jet's Pizza--on the other side of the highway, not too far from the airport
Papa John's Pizza--this one showed up after I left
Pizza Hut -- miles west of town, on the way to dexter
and still, Little Ceasar's & Domino's are the dominant franchises in town.

It did change, tho, since the Domino's moved out of its two big locations(NCC), and more local places came in(more slice-based spots, if you will). The reflexive desire on many conference/party organizers to order nothing but Domino's was but one of the many distressing parts of my undergraduate experience.

Clucky Chicken: [ popping into the front of the screen ] That's me! [ flies up to a table flled with kids and their Dad ]
Dad: Hey, Clucky - why's the Cluckin' Chicken so chick-a-licious?
Clucky Chicken: Everybody knows why. It's 'cause I'm flame-broiled! Yow-zee-yow-dow! But that's not all - I'm cooked fresh! First my head's cut off! [ the cook chops Clucky's head off and send it flying through the restaurant ] Heads up! [ Clucky's head appears before another chicken being gutted ] Then I'm plucked and gutted - my intestines are pulled out. Trust me, you don't want 'em! Whee! Look at me! I'm gettin' quartered and split breasts, wings, the whole nine yards! Chopitty, chop! Then the pieces of me get flame-broiled. Hear that sizzle? That's me! 550 degrees! Good thing I'm dead, or yow-wee! Then I'm seasoned just right, and ready to go! [ takes a bite of a piece of chicken ] Hey, I'm good! Finally, I'm served to you, so you can chew me, swallow me, and convert me into waste matter. [ peers into the toilet ] Ga-ga-ga-gooey!
[ returns to the kids and their Dad ] Hey, kids, how's the meat?
Kids: [ chewing ferociously ] You taste great, Clucky!
Clucky Chicken: [ head spinning around the restaurant ] Holy fanoley! The oxygen's leaving my brain!
Dad; Any last words, Clucky?
Clucky Chicken: You betcha! [ singing ] "If you want a place for the greatest chicken, take it from my head, it's easy pickin', 'cause.."
Jingle: "Something's always cookin' at the Cluckin' Chicken!"

I still have one of the shirts in this picture that I stole from the Dominos that I worked at. I never wear it though.

This print ad is obviously quite a daring move by Dominos as they are using the idea of s&m to demonstrate the enjoyable yet painful experience you have, or your tongue has, when eating their new Sriracha product. The ad is clearly aimed at adults, most likely young adults and students that can, on some level, relate to the idea of s&m and the purpose behind it. Young adults may find the ad to be quite humorous, so it will most likely be received well. It describes the main feature of the product in a visual way which is very eye catching and draws readers attention well. Therefore, people that enjoy spicy food may be persuaded by the ad to go and purchase the product from Dominos.

Disembodied, anthropomorphic tongues in advertising are gross.
