OK, I'm sick of started a new thread for each gig, and I'm sure you are, too. New gigs will be listed here. And also gossip, wild allegations and other interesting stuffs.

We are playing at The Windmill, Brixton on Monday, 24th April. With The Kissing Time and The Favours. (No idea - blame Chuck.) That's a week from yesterday. Be there or be errr... stupid. So please come or I will drink heavily and shout at you.

We're also doing a How Does It Feel night on 11th May. Hurrah!

Oh, and we're in The Fly this month. And we were on Fluxblog, hurrah! We liked that review so much we're thinking of hiring Matthew to do all our video treatments.

Anything else? Over and out.

The Fat One Who Writes All The Songs (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Did I forget any hated thread title cliches? I would have put something about Hen FAP (whatever the f*ck that is) but it wouldn't fit.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:19 (twenty years ago)

I might start "This is the thread where we anticipate the 'The Rolling 2006 "Is There A Thread That Tells Us When ILX Supergroup Shimura Curves Are Playing Again Yet?" Thread (Do Not Read If You Hate Us)' thread" later.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:28 (twenty years ago)

Then I shall start a "Why in the name of all that is holy would anyone start a "This is the thread where we anticipate the 'The Rolling 2006 "Is There A Thread That Tells Us When ILX Supergroup Shimura Curves Are Playing Again Yet?" Thread (Do Not Read If You Hate Us)' thread"" thread.

Or, erm... something.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 10:31 (twenty years ago)

First day at work on Monday so doubt I'll be making the Windmill, but I'll definitely be up for the HDIF gig.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 11:09 (twenty years ago)

Everyone should come! It will be a world of joy!

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:00 (twenty years ago)

How many times do I have to tell you? Keep your shimmering psychedelic dance of joy away from me when I'm in a bad mood! ;-)

(Yes, that was almost a smile. And I have *got* to go and buy tea for the rehearsal tonight.)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Meh, today I am wearing lepord print and feel like three kinds of awful due to excess food last night, but I will try and spread joy.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Well, I have got tea so hopefully that will revive us.

I am wearing pink paisley today. I hope AMP brought her camera so she can take a photo of me standing in front of my pink paisley wall, looking like I own the place or something. ;-)

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Do you own it? Really? Wow, I never knew... ;-)

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Well, now it *looks* as though I own it, because it's all purple and pink paisley.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 12:40 (twenty years ago)

I should bring paint-warming flowers or something.

BTW, I can't get into hotmail right now (they say one of their servers is down), we're still round at yours at 7:15?

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Yay all this rock star talk. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that's the plan if Thameslink... sorry! First Capital Connect don't screw me over.

Dammit, I should finish this report and get out of here, but it's eating my brane. And you know that if I say a bit of maths is difficult then it is DAMN difficult.

I am tabulating rolling totals for 5 different parameters across 3 layers of subtotals and my brane is turning to mush because I cannot figure out the Global variables vs. the Shared variables and what needs to get reset where. ACtually, it's not difficult at all, it's just convoluted and very very involved.

However, I made one of the layers of data a pretty purple colour. We must get our funs somewhere. Sigh.

x-post, sorry this is not rock star talk. It is maths geek talk. When I grow up, I want to be Henrietta Leavitt.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

It's some sort of talk.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I am going to start a spacerock splinter project called Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables. Yeah.

Bernard's Summer Girlfriend (kate), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

It's probably also my first day at work on Monday, and if it isn't, it's still my first day of swimming, so I don't know if I can. Do I take it from the lineup that you're on first?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I don't think so. I think we're supposed to be on last (groan) but we may try to change the running order if possible.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 12:54 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I think I had it wrong and I think we are on first. Which is kind of a relief, as we can soundcheck late and leave early.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I am confused and we need help. Which is our most Indie song? We have been asked to contribute to a compilation, but they want one of our more indie songs, not one of our electro ones. Which one is most indie?

Where is The Lex when you need him?

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:16 (twenty years ago)

hi kate! i think your most indie song is 'opc' (i actually really like it).

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:21 (twenty years ago)

But we don't do that one any more!

And the only recording we have of it is the shit one that was done with He Whom We Don't Mention.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:22 (twenty years ago)

i've got your original demo with just you on it! (unless that's the one you mean?)

'noyfriend' isn't very electro, i think the indies would like it, though it's obviously actually pop.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:39 (twenty years ago)

That version of OPC is actually a survivor from the very first EBA sessions. (Before I got mine own copy of Reason and all.)

We were going to save Noyfriend for a Brainlove single as he (ha ha ha) inspired the song, it seemed appropriate.

Right now it's looking like Mother - when I get around to finishing it and putting the indie guitars on it, since it's very girlgroup which is, I think, what they want.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 20 April 2006 08:43 (twenty years ago)

Joy! Joy!

(Sorry, even though I slept on a sofa, am bust at work and owe Francis some questions, I'm in an oddly upbeat mood and wanting to spread more joy.)

I liek Mother - I think it would be a good one for HDIF.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:19 (twenty years ago)

Sigh, I know you're at work and can't really check yer email, Anna, but would appreciate your weighing in on the issue AMP and I are currently coming to blows over. ;-)

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, and Joy! Joy! (said in a drunken Parson Colley sort of manner.) South London sofa joy!

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 20 April 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Bump. This is tonight. I already have a really cool dress on (pencil skirt abandoned after weekend of mother feeding me lard). We have new dances. We are better than ever before. Basically if you don't come, you're totally lame.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 24 April 2006 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Listen to me beee-acthes and come and see my band.

Anna blames the caffine (Anna), Monday, 24 April 2006 09:29 (twenty years ago)

my and my friend were talking about the 'curves last night, about the gig you did in liverpool.

shame you can't do the 'north again soon.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 24 April 2006 09:34 (twenty years ago)

what time are you on?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 April 2006 09:44 (twenty years ago)

Ummmmm.

Kate? Marianna? Emsk?

Anna (Anna), Monday, 24 April 2006 09:49 (twenty years ago)

We're on first, I think - which means no sooner than 8pm and no later than 8.30.

MARVEL AT MY DISCO BALL SHOES!!!! (I am going to suck it in, put on a girdle and wear the pencil shirt because it makes my ass look so... asstonishing.) Do not point and laugh at my ginger hair.

Mr. Knight is coming. Perhaps we should make him do live Tensor Calculus during our set.

I wish we could play The Norf again. That was fun.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Monday, 24 April 2006 10:47 (twenty years ago)

Bah, I'll still be wiping chlorine from my eyes at that point (where does one buy swimming togs in Central London?)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 April 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

first is good, i'm super-tired and have lots of stuff to do at home and am emphatically not drinking, so i can't stay late...

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:10 (twenty years ago)

Not drinking ... swhere have I heard you say that before Lex? Still, you can join me, I'm planning on keeping my consumption low until we've played because I don't want a repeat of the Luminaire total-surreal-bullshit-onstage-talking.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:14 (twenty years ago)

i'm really 100% serious this time anna! friday made me slightly disgusted with myself (will tell you about it tonight), and consequently there will be no alcohol for a couple of weeks.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, yeah, not drinking, we've heard that one before... from BOTH of you.

Come on, it's not the full Curves experience without Anna's batshit freeform standup surrealism.

I have fishnets, too, but they're sort of... well, curvey sort of patterns of the sort I've just spent all weekend painting on my bedroom walls.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, and I nearly forgot, in my excitement over the silver shoes...

I BOUGHT LIPSTICK!!!

I have never knowingly bought lipstick in my adult life before. My mouth is so damned huge it just looks weird on me. But we shall see.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:29 (twenty years ago)

The Luminaire was more a factor of the band being on last, surely. Regular speed should do for all concerned tonight, save the moderation for when it's needed. NB obviously I'll have to hear Lex's story before producing a full professional judgement.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Bah, work running late tonight cannot make this or the next one when I am in foreign. So no heckles from me tonight.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 24 April 2006 11:47 (twenty years ago)

So was it good?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 07:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeh, was it good? We demand tabloid-esque stories!

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:16 (twenty years ago)

Maybe the band are actually all vampires, like in From Dusk Till Dawn, and so there's nobody left to provide reviews.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

my friend carl liked the curves the most, "despite them obviously being the least professional". i like that.

fie on those of you who scarpered before the favours came on! they were aces. i think i liked the kissing time the best, if only for the t-shirts and meatier sound mix.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Well... two A&R people gave us cards, so that was good. We just have to stop forgetting things due to stage fright and we'll be fine.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

This has just been announced.. So who's (apart from the band of course) are coming along to Truck this year?

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

"despite them obviously being the least professional".

Despite at least one of them having been a session player for years and NEVER wanting to be "professional" again. ;-)

Who are these A&R people? What was that about? How did I completely miss that? Oh yeah, hiding in the ladies' loo.

I can't BELIEVE how badly I f*cked up Elephants. I even wrote the lyrics on my hand, but it was too dark onstage to read them. And then totally forgot to play the guitar solo at all. (I think it's probably a good thing we didn't sing it instead, though.)

My favourite bit of the evening was when Matt Hew played drums, though. I cannot BELIEVE it took me so long to figure out "who is the dude on the t-shirts?"

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 08:55 (twenty years ago)

Wow, there are some bands I really like on that bill. Cooooooool.

Two A&Rs. One was the girl who heard us warming up in the loo and one was this bloke who came over to me when I was too drunk to tallk proper music biz. I directed him towards Emma with the words: "Talk to Emma. She's nice and she's our manager and she knows stuff." Like I said, I was drunk. I'm really not doing too well on the 'not appearing to a be a vacuous bimbo' front.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 09:13 (twenty years ago)

I am becoming unduly influenced by Curves. I've just written and uploaded a whole news story on Robbie Williams and refered to his hit single Strong as Stronger the whole way through. I'm off to faff around in our lame content management system and change it back.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 09:22 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, that's hillarious! (I like that song, too, but ours was ripped off Britney.)

And blimey! I did not know about either of those. I hope that Emsk did proper talking to him, but generally she's quite good at being professional and remembering things afterwards when she's utterly pissed.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 09:25 (twenty years ago)

...and her. Sorry, forgot there were two.

See, I said something else will come along.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Right, fess up, who did this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shimura_Curves

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:35 (twenty years ago)

It has to be an ILx person because mine and Marianna's last names are listed and correct, whereas Frances' and AMP's are missing.....

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:40 (twenty years ago)

Taniyama would be so pissed off to see this hack. ;-)

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:40 (twenty years ago)

I know who did it, through clever googlery, tho I'm not gonna say . . .

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:55 (twenty years ago)

A-HA! I've figured it out, too, now. Hurrah!

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 10:56 (twenty years ago)

It's Charlie, isn't it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Please share with the rest of the group.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

I've emailed you.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:01 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that makes sense. AMP's surname isn't missing so much as removed.

It's not particularly clever googling :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:13 (twenty years ago)

Well, I didn't do it standing on my head or anything.

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:23 (twenty years ago)

AMP, understandably, doesn't want her real name what she writes proper journalist stuff under, associated with her psuedonym where she does the... ha-HEM wilder stuffs.

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 11:27 (twenty years ago)

it wasn't me! mine would have mentioned OMD...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Whilst I like OMD Charlie, that makes me worry about your ears.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:57 (twenty years ago)

We've been worrying for years, hon... ;-)

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Shimura Curves vs Pipettes

Which is the best group ?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Please put lid back on worms. Thanks.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Hey, at least we own more than one dress! ;-)

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

(checks when Pipettes are playing next)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 April 2006 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Ohmigod, my shoes are becoming more famous than me!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/22658121@N00/141332958/

Also, we are playing at How Does It Feel on Thursday. Brixton Windmill again.

Here I Go, Higher! Higher! (kate), Monday, 8 May 2006 09:14 (twenty years ago)

::bump:

Sigh. I have no one to put on my guest list. :-(

Who wants to be my plus one for the evening?

Vernon Jackson (kate), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 12:39 (twenty years ago)

I have a dress!!!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

OMG what's that about a record deal there next to that shoe pic? Us foreign fans demand to know more details!

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 20:57 (twenty years ago)

What dress did you get, Marianna? Is this a new one?

I am contemplating going and buying new buckle boots because my old ones, well, I've had them for nearly 20 years and they're falling to pieces! (wah!) But no. I have to buy a pedal instead. Oh, the imposition.

Oh yeah, record deal. Don't get excited, it's only a 7". Stronger. On Brainlove Records.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 08:30 (twenty years ago)

I am borrowing beads from AMP's sister, rendering my red dress stage-able, rather than cute-picnic-in-park-able. Go AMP Sister! (I don't know how she feels about having her real name on the internet.)

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:17 (twenty years ago)

What shirt should I wear? I may end up wearing the same shirt as the last gig, oh no!

Vernon Jackson (kate), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:19 (twenty years ago)

I should go to Uniqlo and get a black Polo shirt or something. Maybe at lunchtime...

Vernon Jackson (kate), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:25 (twenty years ago)

Eek, I forgot about a friend's birthday on Thursday night so I won't be able to make this, sorry.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

You have too many friends, Matt.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

Yes, it's a lovely new dress (thank the lord for Zara) but looking at it again this morning I'm not sure if I can wear it tomorrow for a bunch of reasons.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Why? It's not polka dot, is it? (heh)

I want a new guitar to match my outfit, but that would really be excessive, wouldn't it?

Can't wait until September until I get my lovely red Epiphone back from my mum's house. Then my guitar can accessorise!

Vernon Jackson (kate), Wednesday, 10 May 2006 10:14 (twenty years ago)

Bump.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 11 May 2006 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Dress crisis!!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Thursday, 11 May 2006 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Snap. I don't think I like my dress either.

What's up M?

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 11 May 2006 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh no! I bought a new dress this morning (#6 at teh charity shop) but don't think it's appropriate for tonight so I will just wear what I planned to wear. Also, new red belt and bangles from Peacocks, of course.

Can I help with dress crises? Last minute jaunts to Peacocks, Uniqlo and Chazzers a speciality!

Vernon Jackson (kate), Thursday, 11 May 2006 12:04 (twenty years ago)

damn, i can't make it. will have a slice of carrot cake in your honor though.

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Thursday, 11 May 2006 12:43 (twenty years ago)

Good luck tonight, girlies!

pleased to mitya (mitya), Thursday, 11 May 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Cheers Mitya.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 11 May 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

So guys, what happened last night? Tell me all the gos - did it go well?

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Friday, 12 May 2006 06:55 (twenty years ago)

omg they were awesome; they killed everybody. i am totally getting kate a top hat.

emsk ( emsk), Friday, 12 May 2006 07:23 (twenty years ago)

Ed said it was really busy and really fun. I got a last-minute plussie for the Streets from a friend who had a reception in town first and was collecting me in an expense'd cab, so had to miss this one.

OMG Emsk, you have reminded me of the Omgi Tribe and I am a-laffs.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 12 May 2006 07:25 (twenty years ago)

That was totally freaking awesome. What an amazing time. It was so much fun, it was really packed - kinda scarily packed, as I saw girls dancing on chairs in the back - and the other bands were lovely. In both senses of the word.

I used to have a top hat, but my SisX0r nicked it. I'm worried I would look like Slash, though. I almost wore a cowboy hat last night but then worried about the undue influence Benjamin Secret Machines is having on me.

Awesome, awesome, they're having us back for a BBQ the weekend before Truck, which should be AMAZING. It is well worth the treck to South London for the Windmill's BBQs!

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, this shatters my illusions that I looked hott on the night, but still. Everyone else looks fab:

http://static.flickr.com/55/144820933_2f1e372109.jpg

During Magnus. In the future I will keep my guitar on at all times in order to cover my beer belly. Yeesh.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 09:25 (twenty years ago)

dear shimura curves. northside want their melody to "my rising star" back from the beginning of your song PWND ;)

on the evidence of the stuff i've just heard on myspace, you fucking rock. when are you going to play glasgow? and make album?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 12 May 2006 09:40 (twenty years ago)

Eh? I ripped that riff off West African Guitar Pop, what are you talking about?

We are going to play Glasgow! This summer, we hope! Negotiations are underway for an ILXapollooza with Dot To Dot. Let's just get the single released first and then we'll talk about an album. :-)

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 09:48 (twenty years ago)

hurrah for playing glasgow. as for the riff ... well, my knowledge of madchester also-rans is substantially better than my knowledge of west african guitar pop. but all i can say is that the bit from 0'13" to 0'24" made me think, hey! northside!

this is a good thing, i hasten to add.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 12 May 2006 10:03 (twenty years ago)

I had an ex-boyfriend who went to school with Northside.

I really enjoyed that. I think the girls on the tables may have been my mates Suzy and Vicky. Were they both blonde?

Anna (Anna), Friday, 12 May 2006 10:43 (twenty years ago)

I think they were blonde, but couldn't really tell with the lights. Still, it was awesome.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 10:45 (twenty years ago)

i got back from work late:(

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 12 May 2006 11:22 (twenty years ago)

People were pushing me out of the way to get at the stage when you were on.

Ed (dali), Friday, 12 May 2006 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Wow! The attractive power of red dresses...

Sigh. We've been YouTubed. I'm not sure how happy I am about that. :-(

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Are you kidding? That's awesome!

(Disclaimer, I can't actually hear it)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, neither can I because YouTube doesn't work for me, ever.

It's more the idea that it's our record company dude, and he didn't actually ask if he could use the clip. I'm uncomfortable with that. If it were some random fan it would be like, sure, whatever. But I'm paranoid.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I like the wine-in-hand swinging. Like the song, too. Might come see you next time.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 12 May 2006 13:59 (twenty years ago)

The a capella bit at the end sounds the best. Hard to make out anything other than the general sound of the song the rest of the time. I was disappointed there were no guitar antics on this song.

Just get him to take it down once you have the video with the Pete Sinfield light show finished.

pleased to mitya (mitya), Friday, 12 May 2006 14:55 (twenty years ago)

It's the one song I don't play guitar on, because I have to sing lead, which I never do. Ha ha, I had forgotten about the wine bottle. I picked it up to drink before the song, and forgot that there's not a proper break where I could have put it down for ages.

I really like the a capella bit, it works really well live - and prove that we can actually sing in proper harmony (unlike certain other popular indie girlbands, mentioning no names). [/bitchiness]

Need more big guitar bits. I was telling Anton that we were "like the Shangri Las fronting Hawkwind" (which has been the description of my dream band for about 15 years now) and he was all "no, I don't hear Hawkwind - well, except in that last song (Noyfriend) but that's more Krautrock" and I was all "DUDE, THIS IS YOUR FAULT FOR LENDING ME THOSE FAUST TAPES ALL THOSE YEARS AGO!!!" (Hence the "kate likes her spacerock" "no, really!" jokes later)

Anyway, we are going to cover Silver Machine at our next gig, I have decided.

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 15:02 (twenty years ago)

(I mean, if Marianna can adapt Take That dance routines for our choreography, then I can insist on inappropriate covers.)

Vernon Jackson (kate), Friday, 12 May 2006 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Wow that youtube clip is great. "Brainstorm" would be better. I can actually imagine what that would sound like (ie good)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 12 May 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

We are going to play Glasgow!

yay! Don't come up when I'm on holiday or I won't see you! (I haven't booked my holiday yet, but I will soon, probably)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 12 May 2006 22:59 (twenty years ago)

Hey hey! New songs on the MySpace:

http://www.myspace.com/shimuracurves

Just Like Friends and the long-threatened filth of Sticky and Brown.

There will be a prize for anyone who can get *all* of the lyrical references in both songs. (Apart from the blindingly obvious Mary Chain riff in Just Like Friends.)

Oh yeah, also some gigs coming up end of June/beginning of July at the Notting Hell Arse Club and 93 Feet East.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Huzzah, I can make these. And new tunes too. Sticky And Brown is indeed filthy fun. When's the single out?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 09:41 (twenty years ago)

Single out end of July, I think? I keep getting the release date wrong. There will be a party, of course.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Ooh, really?

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 09:46 (twenty years ago)

Of course there will be a party! Record release parties are the whole reason you release records! Free champagne and groupies and all that!

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 09:49 (twenty years ago)

*cough* budget *cough*

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Damn, I forgot that we can't just get the Canadian Embassy to pay for the whole thing this time around.

Still, we can demand groupies. Record companies have got to be good for *something*.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:08 (twenty years ago)

Re: Just Like Friends. I hear Dandys.

Will "Hilton Betelguise" ever get a proper release? I wait in hope.

Catty (Catty), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:15 (twenty years ago)

Champagne. Don't you mean Pink Wine. Or Pink Champagne at least.

The new tracks are great by the way!

Hilton Betelguise: well, at least the psuedonyms about who inspired songs aren't getting any harder to crack!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm looking forward to hearing these - are they demos or 'all singing all dancing all four Shimuras' recordings?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:18 (twenty years ago)

x-post god, no! You *know* the story of why that will never get a proper release. It's not like I even own a copy of the masters.

Of course! Pink champagne! Only the finest! £2.89 from Sainsburys!

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:18 (twenty years ago)

x-post again, no, sorry, Matt, just demos.

We *are* going to start work on recording all singing all dancing 4 Shimura album soon, though. Honest. I just have to get an external harddrive and clear some space on my 'puter.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:20 (twenty years ago)

Also, seeing as how we'll be playing around the corner from his house, I probably should invite that boy what inspired one of the songs.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

Oh.... I almost forgot until I saw our blog this morning.

AS OF YESTERDAY, SHIMURA CURVES ARE A YEAR OLD!!!

We played our first gig, at the Windmill, exactly a year ago, yesterday. Hurrah, happy birthday to us.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Happy Birthday. Though not the one that Hallmark owns the copyright too. Stevie Wonder's or even more appropriately Altered Images.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:02 (twenty years ago)

end of july? that seems like an ideal time to be mentioned in the plan b singles column what i have been commissioned to do for then!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:09 (twenty years ago)

YES! YES! YES!!!

Ooh, that would be grate, Lex! (Just don't mention to Frances that we paid you (in pink wine, natch) to namedrop us.)

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:11 (twenty years ago)

never mind pink wine (though er yes please), i will need a copy of the single itself!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:39 (twenty years ago)

as obviously i have never heard any of your songs before

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:39 (twenty years ago)

Are you coming to AMP's party on Saturday? I can give it to you then. Or else you can come to our rehearsal on Monday, and then you might get a properly mixed version with the guitar solo and all (even though I know you are Against Guitar Solos, honestly, this one is a good one, you can sing along.)

Actually, wait, you HAVE the track, because you have everything we've ever recorded! If you want the single itself, it hasn't been made yet, but you will have one the moment we have one. Or maybe you should speak to Bra1nl0v3 directly as you are a Proper Journalist and Not One Of Our Mates At All, Oh No!

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Groupie party you say . . .

*imagination bubble*

"Hi ladies. I'm a close personal friend of the Shimsters, as we jokingly call them . . . " *drifts off into pleasant reverie*

Johnny B Was Quizzical (Johnney B), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:46 (twenty years ago)

amp's party? saturday? another one? so soon? i might do though suspect i am already booked up. i have the track - 'stronger', yes? - and will wait for the proper pretty single. even though i will not be able to play it cos it's a 7". who are the other band on it, are they good?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Yes, it is Stronger. Hey, I won't be able to play it, either. :-( But I'll have the master, so I don't care.

The other band were supposed to be Ten Yen Tim and I like the song that I've heard, but now it's kind of all up in the air, because he doesn't want to use that track and now the record company are being all "oh no!" and I'm all confused.

Actually, I probably shouldn't gossip about all this, as I don't know for sure.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:03 (twenty years ago)

it is gonna be tim ten yen but a different song
i saw john in the pub last nite

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:58 (twenty years ago)

(that is how i know)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 12:58 (twenty years ago)

So how come Tim was allowed to substitute a different song, but we weren't? Humph! I call shennanigans.

The Minimal Criminal (kate), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Kate, we don't know anything about what was agreed with Tim...

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Plus, talking of such things on the internet makes me uncomfortable, even if ILE is our personal corner.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:36 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Hello. I've no idea if any of you will be reading this late in the afternoon but I hear whisperings of a July 3 gig. Can anyone confirm this?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

Eh? Yeah. 3rd July at 93 Feet East, I think. I can't even keep track any more.

I'm just sweating about the one at Notting Hill Arts Club on 25th June. Please, won't someone come. Please.

Free Your Ass (And Your Mind Will Follow) (kate), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent, I was wondering if A-M had got the wrong end of the stick about something. I was supposed to be DJing that night but decided against it because of wanting to actually watch the band. I may bring a small crowd along.

25 is a Sunday, right? I will be out dancing the previous night so it all depends on whether I'm in a vaguely human state.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Right! I'm off home to turn in the final mix of our single to our record company.

Mummy, I'm scared.

It's my first engineering job for, like, proper actual release on a VINYL RECORD and everything. I hope it's OK.

Free Your Ass (And Your Mind Will Follow) (kate), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

What do you think?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

I just wish we had one where AMP's hand wasn't over her face so we could revel in her hott ginger cuteness, as well.

Sundogs at 22 Degrees (kate), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

On the other hand, you should totally rock the all black plus shades look more often.

(This is good advice for everyone really)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

Show looks like she's laughing irrepressibly, which = cute in my book. When I heard about it first, I thought it was some kind of Paparazzi-like "no! not my face!" thing.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to get prescription sunglasses. I've decided.

But I have to stop wearing black suits and big boots because people think I'm a lesbian! Dammit! Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just want the underage boy-pussy, too!

Sundogs at 22 Degrees (kate), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

(OK, the rubbing my tits against Anna's while rubbing my butt against AMP's butt thing probably didn't help the lesbian image, but still. We were drunk.)

Sundogs at 22 Degrees (kate), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:32 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent pic - looks cool and happy.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

(I am also very chuffed that my hair came out dark honey blonde and not ginger, as I was afeared.)

Sundogs at 22 Degrees (kate), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

Right. This Sunday. I'm still trying to chase the promoter for actual stage times and the like but I think we're on quite early.

Did we ever even get flyers? I've got the fear.

Insert Clever Screen Name Here (kate), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

It's my first engineering job for, like, proper actual release on a VINYL RECORD and everything. I hope it's OK.

For vinyl is very important not have phase issues.

When are you guys playing up north again?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

Hey - that photo is wonderful! Is this the split single, or something else? What song?

Dr.C (Dr.C), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

Oh god, I'm sure there's phase issues all over the place, because everything is doubled. Argh.

I'm starting to get really pissed off about this whole label thing. Because I have ONLY JUST FOUND OUT that this is apparently our record release party or something. I thought we'd just booked a gig independently, and have discoverd it's been coopted by our record company without our consent. Would have been nice if we'd been asked. I'm starting to feel very used.

And they're using a promotional photo that we specifically asked them not to use. Fucking great.

Insert Clever Screen Name Here (kate), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

I've accidentally got myself into a pretty precarious financial situation so don't think I'll be able to make this, sorry. 93ft East on the 3rd is a goer though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'm this close to cancelling the freaking gig.

I thought that record companies were supposed to GET you gigs, not nick gigs you'd already booked, and slot a load of their artists on above the bill on you.

I'm fucking furious about this, and getting Str@ng3 Fru1T and 0rg@n flashbacks all over again.

Insert Clever Screen Name Here (kate), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

They'll be adding a big screen so people can watch the footy next... (joke)

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

They are, actually. Reason number two to pull out of the gig.

:-(

Insert Clever Screen Name Here (kate), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Can't make this weekend (probably just as well at this rate) but the 3rd I'm there.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I could figure out a way to just walk out of this without letting everyone else down. :-(

That's great artwork!

What time are you scheduled to be on, in order to avoid my having to stand/sit through dreary beery indie bands/big screen football?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I've changed my mind. I like football. I think it brings people together in a harmonious, joyous fashion. I like the waves of joi de vivre that spread though the attendant crowds. I know I'll be there, watching the match. Then I'll probably lead the Shimuras in a shout of 'COME ON ENGLAND!' Yay for man-sports!

XOXO, K

(er ok not really this is AMP. kate has left herself logged in on my computer. lollus.)

How does a ferret get invisible, then? (kate), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

This is going to come out rude no matter how I say it, so I'm just going to be blunt and hope you understand.

Marcello, this gig is going to be stressful enough for me as it is. Given the history between us, I would sincerely prefer it if you did not attend. I cannot prevent you or anyone else from attending, but I would hope that you would show some sensitivity towards my wishes.

How does a ferret get invisible, then? (kate), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, go on.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

Erm, yeah - I don't really see the problem here. It's not like she went on for several posts pretending to be you or anything. Nothing mod-worthy here as far as I can see.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Hello this thread.

Did it rock? Was it not as bad as you feared Kate?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 26 June 2006 07:42 (nineteen years ago)

It did rock, apart from a bit where Kate appeared to be struggling to get the tin-foil bit off the top of a yoghurt container. Very confusing...

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 26 June 2006 08:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yoghurt? Eh, what? Oh wait, yes, that was my Powder. My special Guitar Powder.

It did indeed rock. Thank you to everyone who came. Good idea to have a FAP first so I was in a pleasant mood (and drunk on strawberry beer) before we went on. Only one moment of unpleasantness and we moved swiftly on. Much rock. Much pink wine and whiskey and ginger. Much dancing. The Texan broke me. Two new songs! Really really liked the other bands. A nice group of people to get on a stage together. Napoleon IIIrd and I agreed to do a side project together. (No, not in that way, an actual project mailing Cubase files back and forth and stuff.)

Oh, and heard something v. v. v. cool but don't want to expand further in case I jinx it. People who were there saw us jumping up and down about it.

Hello. Do any of you know what time you're likely to be onstage on Monday? I'm trying to get a few people together for it and it's easier to herd them if I know when they should get there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 June 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea. But we're the second band on, I think? Argh.

Too much organisation required at the moment my head is melting. Where's my understudy? I think I want to pull a Brian Wilson and retire from live performances to stay in bed eating ice cream.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 29 June 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

Get yr manager to do the organization! You're an artist!

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 29 June 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

8.30! 2nd band on. 1st band is melody nelson, 3rd is plastic passion, we are trees are headlining.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 29 June 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

What our manager said!

Are there going to be actual trees onstage do you think? There should be more trees onstage. Can we borrow some of Ed's 15,000 trees for the evening?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 29 June 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Are they really trees? That could be really rather good. They would have rainwater on their rider and scan the audiences for young dryads to give them rootjobs after the show.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 June 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

I always wondered where Root Beer came from.

Hooray! I'm coming to 93 Feet East tomorrow!

gooblar (gooblar), Sunday, 2 July 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

hooray! and so should everybody else!

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 3 July 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

I hope it's air conditioned, or the soldering that holds my Big Muff together may melt.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

fnaaarr!

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 3 July 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

my meeting seems likely to have been cancelled by this aftgernoon, ergo i get to come to 93! woo.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 3 July 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

hurrah!

pls everybody to bring sacrificial sag paneer and sacrificial pink wine, kthxbye.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 3 July 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

Ugh Pete.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 3 July 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm looking forward to this more I need cheering up, or to get very drunk.

Ed (dali), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

Awww, Ed. I would reccomend both. (Sugarpop cheering up *and* getting very drunk.)

n.b. do not allow me to get very drunk. I have to do monthend tomorrow. Argh!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, it's kinda funny. Shimuras MySpace keeps getting all these shoegazer friend requestions. Is that because I changed our description from "Electronica/Disco-house/Pop" to "Electronica/Shoegazer/Pop" - do you think?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Who's bringing the cute boys tonight? x

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was your turn!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

Good thing I planned to wear a low-cut dress tonight, then!

OK. One cute popstar for me. One dirty dronerock boy for Kate. One hottie with tight buns and a penchant for words for Amp. Four swoony hunks of man meat for Anna.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

IF ANNA IS HAVING FOUR MANGS THEN I WANT FOUR DIRTY DRONEROCK BOYS!!!

OK, here are three. Please to be finding me one more.

(It's my thread and I'll spam if I want to, spam if I want to, spam if I want to...)

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha. Okie dokie!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

I never thought I'd be saying this because I don't even fancy Brandon (the one in the middle) but honestly, his eyebrows look fantastic there. Wow. Those are GOOD eyebrows.

I've just had a coffee. I am going to have to have a couple more. I suspect it's the only way I'm going to make it through tonight.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

I am thinking of attending this, tonight!

Because I saw it in - the METRO!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

It was in the Metro?!? Dammit, I didn't get a copy today.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

Clearly I have 90210 on the brain, for I immediately thought of Jason Priestley then.

Mmm, caffeine.

Yes, we're in the Metro!! Shit, I left my copy in the canteen. There should be some on the tube tonight, hopefully.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Jason Priestly was pretty hott, too. Though he wasn't in a dronerock band, unfortunately.

Did it say anything about us, or was it just a listing, like there was in the Guardian?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

No, just a listing. Still!

Kate, quick game of 90210 marry, f&ck, kill: Steve, David, David's friend who shot himself in the first series.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

Is anyone I know going to be at the concert?

the pinefox (the pinefox), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm really mesmerised by that eyebrow. His left eyebrow especially. He just looks so... quizzical.

Anyway, uh, yeah. Shimura Curves. Mathspop! Yeah! Live at the Peach Pit! Gonna Rock Dah House tonight!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, quick game of 90210 marry, f&ck, kill: Steve, David, David's friend who shot himself in the first series.

Eeeeuuuuwwww! I think I'd take the bullet for the KEEEELING and shoot myself instead.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Pinefox - myself, Tim and Pete are going to be there.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds good!

I have not seen Tim G. for ages.

I hope that I make it, tonight.

I will have to find out which way to go!

the pinefox (the pinefox), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Matt you didn't mention me. Me me me me me me me me me me. Me. I'm going to be there.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

I love how he didn't mention myself, Anna or Marianna, all of whom The Pinefox knows and all of whom will obviously be there. :-P

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

See you down there!

(Have managed to avoid being sucked into major report overhaul after being buttonholed by company owner.)

Custard Subsidence (kate), Monday, 3 July 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Lex, is Anna-Marie going to be DJing in the other room or is Lovelife still off for the timebeing?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 3 July 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

I think it was to be taken as read that the members of band Shimura Curves would be at band Shimura Curves gig.

Will there be rock'n'roll fireworks?

Pete (Pete), Monday, 3 July 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

i think lovelife returns tonight, yes.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 3 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Well that was terrific.

I completely blew my Whole Lotta Rose gag though, dammit.

Sticky & Brown, nu-live favourite!

Pete (Pete), Monday, 3 July 2006 22:45 (nineteen years ago)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 05:24 (nineteen years ago)

I got a much better handle on Sticky and brown this time thanks to the sound that was much better than the NHAC. One of my favourite gigs to date.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 05:26 (nineteen years ago)

There's a remarkably pensive Anna/Tracey bagel moment going on in those photos...

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 06:53 (nineteen years ago)

anna is now the 5th most interesting thing on my flickr.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 07:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my god, Sticky and Brown. If Kate were to sell that song to Britney she'd never have to work again.

Best gig yet, even if there was no Elephants :(

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 07:22 (nineteen years ago)

that was the best shimura curves gig i have seen yet and i LOVE 'sticky and brown'!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 07:22 (nineteen years ago)

I think Matt's Rob exploded during Sticky & Brown.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

Haha those are the most comprehensively over-tagged photos I've ever seen, Ed! I salute you.

Nice looking too, enough to make me long for a proper camera. I assume your gear cost an arm and a leg?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

I guess probably about £600 in total over a period of time.

Shoegazer bagel is a flickrwack

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

THANK YOU SO MUCH for coming, you guys. Despite being more nervous than usual, I had an awesome night. WOOO! xxx

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

What have you done with my housemate? Is he still alive?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Matt's random occurance of the week - the t-shirt that Anna's friend Jack was wearing was designed by my sister as part of a competition about 12 years ago.

Apocalypse Pudding (Matt DC), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Kate.. Do you remember a few years ago you did a q/thread regarding "Selling Out".. What did happen in the end there?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Tree-mendous gig, all around. I'm so happy I came; the mystery of shimura curves is finally starting to unravel. I second (third?) the compliments for 'Sticky and Brown'--but 'Madness', 'Stronger', and 'Just Like Friends' were also super-awesome.

gooblar (gooblar), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

x-post. Yeah, Rob's fine. He just crashed at mine after Mother.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

'Madness' : perhaps that is what the song should be called now.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I'd known you were heading that way I could have stood to get drunker. I would probably have lost kate's amp so it for the best I guess.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

By the way, I know the band state that Mother is about the Mother bar, but the words don't really make sense to be about a bar. Just a hint. I would instead say it was about an important person in your life, perhaps a relative or something - as the lyrics seem to suggest more of a nurturing relationship than a late night Shoreditch bar can provide.

Cheers!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

You clearly don't recall kate's mother period (like Picasso's blue period)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

That's OK, KATE does not recall half of Kate's Mother period ;-).

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, I also noticed the title changed to 'Madness'.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

arata asa de.....jidanca

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

I think that was just cloth ears, but "Madness, madness they call it madness."

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

I don't remember ANY of my Mother period. I used to live just off Hoxton Street, so to get home from anywhere I had to walk past Mother. And no matter what time of the small hours of the morning it was, there would always be this lovely blue light beckonning me in, and the bouncers would be all "Hey, Kate!" and then Reynard the cute bartender would be all "Kaaaaate! Double vodka?" like the hipster Hoxton version of Cheers, it was just nice to have a place that I felt like I belonged.

Anyway, yeah. Hah, I can't believe you all went on to Mother. Bastards. But Barima and I had a Night Bus vs. Last Tube race and I won! ha ha ha ha ha!

But uh-huh. Thanks for making this such a great gig. As some of you know, I was really really nervous (stupid record company guys that come up to you BEFORE the gig and introduce yourself so you can barely throw up out of nerves) and wasn't really feeling it onstage, but to look out and see everybody dancing and singing along and being so lovely and saying such lovely things made me feel so much better about it all. And I ended up having such a GRATE time hanging out with everyone in the courtyard afterwards.

So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, that was GRATE!!! I love you all. You made it really fun.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, those photos are great, Ed! You really capture both the gauzy fun of it and the BLAZING HEAT. Lovely.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

these are my favorites.

I've re-versioned that last one to make it a little more rock, without all of that spill from the equipment behind and I realise that I'd left out the pink wine.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dotcommunist/181532909/

I didn't think I'd got any decent one of anna as she was on the dark side of the stage so I ended up taking loads and they came out some of the best.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Oi! I like the pedals! Leave them!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

They are both there and I am having fun with aperture and it's virtual light table.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

Nice shots!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

aw, I thought that was Courvoisier :(

u guys really shook it down!!!!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Courvousier?!?!? Ha ha ha, what do you take us for? Classy chicks?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

Tracey said to me "they're going heavy on that Courvoisier" and I laughed because I thought Tracey was joking.

Every time I go to see the Shimura Curves I hope they will be as good as they were the last time I saw them. Every time they are better.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed. And as Matt DC vaguely notes above, the mark of a band of quality is that they can leave out decent songs to make their set fit (no Elephants or Lost Rivers Of Clerkenwell. I'd like to hear pwned live too sometime!)

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey! Looks like we've just added another gig next Friday! Details to come! What a marathon this coming week is going to be...

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

wait there's a song called pwned?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, we have a song called PWNED. We are going to try to play it at the next gig. We keep rehearsing it, but then it always gets bumped off the setlist at the last minute.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

I'd always assumed PWNED was written about Ken (if not written BY him, which lyrically it could've been).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Please to do a gig in Brighton ladies!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

That shouldn't be too hard to arrange, Arch...

Anyway, yeah, it's been confirmed now. Friday 14th July, Upstairs at the Garage. With Tim Ten Yen (yeah, that bloke on our B-side again).

Anyone who makes it to both Garage and Windmill will get, erm... A PRIZE!!!

Or at least the CD-R that I promised The Lex and Rob.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Oh god. Upstairs at the Garage. On a Friday. I predict ruin. Extended ruin. And flowers.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Do you have stage times? I'm getting the sleeper down to cornwall but I don't have to be at Paddington till 2330

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yay, flowers! And afterparty at Anna's! With extreme drunken renditions of "Sticky and Brown" to embarrass her housemates!

We're on second, so apparently our stage time is 9.30, so you might just make it if we stick to the schedule...

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

This time I am so there.

I have 3000 words to write before then.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Rock! However, now we have to arrange to get that amp from yours up to Anna's, I think. Oh dear, it's like a shell game of amps. But not AMP, we know where she is, she's in Sweden. Or will be soon.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

STICKY AND BROWN
STICKY AND BROWN
TASTES SO GOOD WHEN YOU'RE - GOING DOWN

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'll arrange with Anna to take it up that way before next friday.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

xpost?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

gross!

gooblar (gooblar), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

erm, yes

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

What's so gross about chocolate?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

There is nothing gross about chocolate. Nothing.

gooblar (gooblar), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know why you people persist in thinking that that song is about ANYTHING except Marianna's lovely chocolate tart.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Question: Do you think Sticky and Brown is too rude for radio, or is it just the sort of gimmick that will get us on the radio?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

It's exactly the sort of gimmick that will get you on the radio.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Too rude to get on U.S. radio (lol at anyone getting on US radio), but just right for UK, I think

gooblar (gooblar), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

balls, i can't come! it is my dad's birthday on the 14th and my mum is just home from 10 months on other side of world, so i'm going home for the weekend. i'll be back in time for the windmill shindig though.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no! I predict tears before bedtime! What will we do without you?

Custard Subsidence (kate), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Cool. I loved Monday so much, so I'll try and be there. I have your tie, Kate, so you need to wear it onstage.

BTW, if drunk, I may take my "Shimura backing dancer role" to extremes for 'Sticky & Brown" someday.

Headspin (Barima), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

I made a flickr group for the hype machine.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

Is that a promise or a thread, Barims? ;-)

Hurrah for Liberty ties! It may be too hot for ties at the Garage. But I will do my best.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

there should be a thread on barima's backing dancing

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

Barima doesn't dance.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 6 July 2006 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

No, I like to move it, move it.

Headspin (Barima), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

In all seriousness, I did once dance backup (twice) for a spoof boyband my schoolcrew formed, but the Curves actually have credibility, yes?

Headspin (Barima), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

In all seriousness, I did dance backup (twice) for a spoof boyband my schoolcrew formed, but the Curves actually have credibility, yes?

I'm glad to hear that!

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

He dances

Ed (dali), Thursday, 6 July 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

An old friend of mine (who I haven't seen in about a year) has just emailed me out of the blue to invite me to a Tim Ten Yen gig this Saturday. I have no idea why. Should I go along?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, and take your colleague. :-)

Custard Subsidence (kate), Thursday, 6 July 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

So I guess we were mentioned on Radio 1 last night. Now just play the freaking single!

Sigh.

Custard Subsidence (kate), Friday, 7 July 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

yes to name-check you and then not play your record is nuts!

What happened to the wikipedia entry btw? Did a member of the band delete it?

I think it's bullshit, basically, typical of WP's pissy treatment of small label bands "I haven't heard of it, therefore it must be a vanity page". I have actually read about the band in print media over here, yet some fucking schoolkid thinks it's ok to pull the entry. As Dom P said a while ago, thank goodness Wikipedia is there to cover some flamewar that happened over 10 years ago:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meow_wars

As a resource, it's worthless.

Anyway, like I said. TWO chances to catch us this weekend.

Have also found out that the ex boyfriend of doom's band is the headline band on Sunday which should be, ha ha, interesting.

Also, we got the white label test pressing of the single. It was played at Andrew's housewarming party. I was being all perfectionist about it, but then Thom Yorke (my animal spirit guide, apparently) appeared to me in a dream and told me it was all OK.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

Thom?

NOW IT MAKES SENSE, IT'S BECAUSE I ATE THE PICKLED CHILI ALMOND AT ANDREW'S PARTY!!!

(Am resisting the urge to re-post that picture of Thom Yorke smothered in chocolate as I don't think my bandmates appreciate it on the same level that I do.)

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry, I cannot stop looking at the chocolate covered Thom and, errr, licking my lips.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

the pic of him currently on the front of... shit, what was it? word? mojo? something like that - is very watchable.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

There's one magazine out at the moment that scares the beejesus out of me, he looks very evil.

Mmmm, evil Thom, battling the forces of Prog.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

I've just realised that our next gig is on BASTILLE DAY!!!

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

and also

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

and also MY DAD'S BIRTHDAY

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Please write a song linking the two events.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Sing the marseillaise.

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Chuck, I can't talk to you again now. :-(

actually ms goodshoes's guess, while not entirely untrue, is also not entirely true.

yes, i was at the pipettes gig that night - and as it happens, fairly disappointed by it - but there was no reason on earth why i couldn't come see the shimuras first, then mosey off to the pipettes, thus completing a tasty girlpop formation dancing double whammy of an evening.

except i got stuck doing an Unavoidable Thing at precisely the point ye Shimuras were on - a Thing which happened to be over in time for me to get to t'other gig.

sorry, sorry, etcetera.

guess i'd better make sure i don't, um, go to the latitude festival on friday or something, eh?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

Well, Monsieur Le Chuck, alls I can say is, it was YOUR LOSS!!!

I was planning to dress as a pirate, but now I may have to dress as a French Aristocrat. Sunday, however, I am going to be a cowboy.

Anyway, I'm off to look for more pictures of Thom Yorke as a ginger.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Vive les Shimuras!

Anna (Anna), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Surely La Shimuras!

Like La Dusseldorf. (or is that German?)

(Though wait, my French is very rusty, what is the plural feminine definite article in French? Where is the Belgian when you need her?)

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

It is 'les'. (Plurals lose their gender in French, alas.)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

it is LES

i am 91% confident about this

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

Plural is les irrespective of gender, isn't it?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

I read that as it is LIES.

Now I want to listen to La Dusseldorf.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

And then they all les up.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

::drum hit::

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Vive les Shimuras!

Vive la Roséstance, surely?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 July 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

Great poster for Friday night, btw.

gooblar (gooblar), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:42 (nineteen years ago)

What, this:

http://static.flickr.com/71/184149788_7233e642c0.jpg

It is great, isn't it! Wish we could claim responsibility for it, but I think Carina (?) did it.

Tangerine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yep, that's the one. Makes me wish even more that I could make it to the show. I'm afraid a stag night (not mine) is un-get-out-able.

gooblar (gooblar), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

Awwww... :-(

However, argh, quandary - there is no "The" in our name, is there?

It's just Shimura Curves, not The Shimura Curves. Right? I think?

I can't remember if this is "a thing" or something. because someone has just called us The Shimura Curves. WHich I think is wrong.

Tangerine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeh dude there is definitely no the in shimura curves. throws the balance of the whole name off! and takes away some of the ambiguity. (shimura curves. does it?)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I don't think there is such a thing as a single, definite Shimura Curve. They are a set of multi-dimensional toroid shapes with lots of holes in them. So I don't think you can have just one.

Where is a mathematician when you need one?

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

in your mirror?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

But that would be symmetry breaking and is not permitted by the laws of physics!

(Also, why it is bad luck to break mirrors.)

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

It is les. My French ain't great, but it's not so crap either. I managed to buy three train tickets to Ghent and ask where the platform was and all of that Tricolour Deux bobbins whilst in Lille.

Breaking mirrors - all reflective surfaces were once considered mystical - see all those old Gods looking into water - and as a gateway to other worlds or a portal to the future. Therefore breaking a mirror = breaking your own future. Happy happy.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Wormholes and black holes to thread!

(Well, not really, it would rip the fabric of our very thread apart. But you know what I mean, in a metaphorical sense.)

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

Why did that post so many times? I swear I deleted at least one.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Argh, playing tonight. I'm scared. Sucks to have to carry all my gear on the Thameslink into work. Does anyone want to be on the cheapy list?

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

Yes please.

You're on at 9.30, right? I have to go home first as I'm in a suit and that's not very rock and roll, so I should be there in time.

Can I just mention that 'Together' is terrific - a real 'album closer' type song. Whatever you do, don't change a single thing about that chiming guitar solo in the middle.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 July 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

yes please.

Ed (dali), Friday, 14 July 2006 10:03 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I don't think there is such a thing as a single, definite Shimura Curve. They are a set of multi-dimensional toroid shapes with lots of holes in them. So I don't think you can have just one.

Where is a mathematician when you need one?

way late on this one, but you can indeed have just one shimura curve - that whole set is a single curve, in the technical sense.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 14 July 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, thanks, Toby, that's really interesting! I guess my understanding of topology has a long way to go.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

it's half eight innit? not half nine? anyway.

anybody want free guest list to fun club/gig thing wink, opposite upstairs at the garage at the buffalo bar, as a place to go after teh gig? mail me offlist innit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Says 9.30 upthread... can someone who's going to be onstage clear this up?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

[i guess the point is that "curve" tends to mean "1-dimensional object", not necessarily "connected 1-dimensional object", so that if i draw two disjoint circles, i still get to call them a curve.

also the thing i always used to find confusing was that these things that looked like surfaces got called curves all the time. the point is that these are curves over the complex numbers, and the complex numbers look like a real plane, so something which is 1-dimensional over the complex numbers looks 2-dimensional over the real numbers.]

toby (tsg20), Friday, 14 July 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

*brain melts* *begins to think band name not such wise coice after all*

Anna (Anna), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea what time we're going to be onstage. I'm guessing to err towards the 8.30 if that's what our manager said rather than anything that any of us posted. (especially considering how late the average Shimura tends to be.)

Now I'm going to stop being confused by stage times and be confused by the wonder that is complex number curves. Remember, I went to Art School, I have no proper qualifications as a mathematician (don't tell my employers!) so to me curve is a single curved object, while any amalgamation of curved shapes is curves - hence the French Curves used as a drawing device.

Though in my mathematician life at work, "curves" means distribution curves or bell curves, which do not have to be contiguous at all, they can be heavily weighted to one end or the other.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Rock on!!!

Apparently ILX celebrity Le Coq will be making an appearance at one of these shows - not sure if it will be tonight or Sunday, though. Let's see if we can drag him onstage for some backing raps on "Brown & Sticky." Aw yeah!

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

!!! Noise Boarders and Shimura's on the same stage, that I might have livces to see this day (except I won't see it)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

lived, that is.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 14 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I could explain it but would have to do abotu a two month maths refresher to get close to even comprehending the idea. At least they don't use infinity.

Can I be on the cheap list too plz Kate.

And I like Together too. Its an encore song.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I just like the idea that if anyone ever asks us where the name comes from, they will to have to drag A Mathematician on as a talking head expert to explain. Heh.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, also, I have put everyone who has asked so far on the cheapie list, but I'm going in about ten minutes. So text me or one of my bandmates with any late requests.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Friday, 14 July 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Hooray. That was a great night. Upstairs at the Garage is still a shit venue and the sound is awful, with anything more than two things in the mix it goes all horrible and muddy and you couldn't hear the Shimuras vocals as much as a result :(

Still, the band themselves were great, especially seeing PWNED live. Anna is very very good at that 'I am concentrating intently on this game even though I can't play it' face.

Tim Ten Yen is fantastic. There is no song in the world that isn't improved by addition of steel drums. Also Gareth and I were chatted up by cute girls backstage because (I assume) they thought we were with him. I think they were disappointed.

Old friends of mine kept popping up all over the place last night - one at the end of the gig and two at London Bridge, just in time for them to pay for a cab home :)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 15 July 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

Also, please sometime tell me I'm not mad and that Sinister Cat did actually move its head from time to time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 15 July 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

It does indeed move that cat. It is magic/ lives/ has batteries.

Anna (Anna), Saturday, 15 July 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

The show last night was great and fun, even though your new member was sort of silent (I totally wanted to talk to the red pepper plant after the show, but I couldn't get up the nerve). I introduced two friends to the curves, and one thought you sounded like the Vaselines.

"Noyfriend" lives right at the corner of drone and pop streets, which is a fantastic neighborhood.

gooblar (gooblar), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

sorry all shimuras that i failed to make either gig - i intended to do both, but on friday got sidetracked by a free ticket to the erykah badu gig at somerset house (and with it, partying with will young and the black eyed peas backstage), and on sunday, jesus christ, utter ruin - i remember very little until coming to in an unknown hackney park with gareth at 2pm feeling like WOE.

gareth where the hell did we go before that.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

It could have been worse. You could have been me and woken up at 8am underneath a table in an insalubrious Commercial Road boozer. With a very angry Irish woman poking me with a mop. For the first time in my life I have now been BARRED from a pub. Hooray!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

Wow.

gooblar (gooblar), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

So Lex you managed house party #1, It Came From The Sea, house party #2, pub, Sunday morning rave and then random Hackney park in one night? R0x0r.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey! That certainly beats my waking up randomly in Anna's bed, smeared with coconut drops and cheap chocolate alcopops. (not really.)

yes! The cat moves! I heart Tim Ten Yen, too. We are planning to do lots more gigs together. I know the sound was rubbish at the Garage, but I actually had a really good/fun gig. And I got to have a PROPER ROCK STAR HISSY FIT and throw all the randoms out of the backstage area.

The Windmill gig was fun, too, though it wasn't the same without Anna. (Yes, her replacement was totally HOT but not very talkative.) It's funny, when Anna bables randomly, she comes out and propositions the audience in French. When I babble, I go all "Artichokes! Rhinoceruses! Where's the tequila? Ack!" Not good.

Congrats to Gooblar and Le Coq for actualy making it to Brixton. Hurrah! Somewhere I think there's a photo of me smooching Le Coq to make all the NOIZE BOIS jealous. Apologies for being so drunk and incoherent.

I managed to avoid my ex for most of the night, too, despite him poking me in the arm while I was choking to death on an egg (not very rock'n'roll, I know).

I'm so hungover now. me die now.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

yes! i was v proud of myself. basically i quadruple-booked friday night and quintuple-booked saturday night, and acquitted myself pretty well in dealing with all of that. wish i could have made shimura bbq but was gibbering like a crazy to my flatmate when i finally got home at 3pm, i don't think i could have managed it.

xp

If and when the Shimuras spawn a wave of imitators, can the resultant scene club night be called 'Nazis Nicked My Boyfriend'?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, there was a new mishearing last night, but I can't remember what it was. I blame the tequila.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Wow! I'm strangely honoured. (Even though I know it's all about the lovely Stars and not us, but still.)

Hee hee, it's cute when you go all "we" about us because you totally are, like, the Fifth Shimura manager dude.

You replaced me with the pot plant?

Anna (Anna), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

It was a pepper plant.

I didn't get there in time for the shimuras, to do so would have involved breaking all kinds of drink (and possibly sleep) driving laws. So see other thread. there are all kinds of gory details but I won't kiss and tell. (OK, maybe I will tell if kissed).

S.C. were one of the highlights of Truck i think. And several men were taught how to play with that foldy paper thing that opens and shuts.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

I have a great Ken C pissed photo I will post later.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

oh crap

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

I think you were high on not so innocent smoothie.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

The security then wouldn't let us corrupt you.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

shimura curves were the only band all weekend whose set i saw all of.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, hurrah, there's Ken. And his not so innocent smoothie.

Rock! Did anyone get a picture of the Silver Machine? Must check everyone's Flickrs.

It's very strange. I had such an awesome time at Truck, but I remember next to nothing of our set. Wasn't even drunk, it was just kind of a black hole null of time that didn't happen. I'm glad to hear it was good.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

I've been playing the Curves in my computer. I think my machine runs faster when the Curves are playing inside it.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

From that indiemp3 link
Shimura Curves are a South London band but don't hold that against them.

whoa????

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

The music bends space in the CPU allowing extra-connections to be made in the logic circuits -> faster.

RRAAAAWWWWK!!!

OK, Bumlove does have his uses. Shimuras onstage:

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Ed. I'm glad you've said that. It's lovely of the other three, but I look both flat-faced and fat-faced.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

It's a lovely photo (even if I did a slight double-take because I thought Marianna had three legs!)

The Committee To Keep Jazz Caged (kate), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

marianna as rolf harris is not a good image.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

Why is it that three of my bandmates always look so glamourous, no matter where they are, while I look indeed, like I've been sleeping in the back of a van for three days?

The Committee To Keep Jazz Caged (kate), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, the reason I was wearing a headband is because of my truly awful I've-been-sleeping-in-a-tent hair.

kate it's because you were too busy looking RAWK at that photo!

as well as playing the stars of aviation's single launch at the water rats this coming sunday (6th), SHIMURA CURVES are now playing with pretend-french brighton cuties LA FRANGE at the windmill on wednesday august 16th. for info on la frange, http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/la_frange/index.jhtml is funnier but www.myspace.com/lafrange is probably more useful.

also the day of the water rats gig is the day of FRUITSTOCK in regents' park, (yummy but overpriced smoothie makers) innocent's annual beano - www.fruitstock.com. it's in the camden-est corner of regents' park so it's a hop skip and a stagger to camden town and a bus/tube/wander to the water rats. it is free free free, the music looks a bit naff but that's better because it means you can lie around in the sunshine guilt-free without thinking you should really go and see that band. i'll be there, somewhere in the vicinity of a blue flag, and you should be too.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 31 July 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey, I didn't know this had been confirmed. I'm so out of touch. Read ILX! Find out your own band's news!

You didn't tell me they were so CUUUTE!!!

Any band who has blog entriest called things like The Mathematics of Aesthetics is OK with me...

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Monday, 31 July 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

i thought i emailed this am saying i had said yes cos i'd heard back from all of you? anyway yeah, they are v cute. good hair too. i went to see them the first time kind of expecting it all to be a bit jokey but then i really really liked the music too.

I'm thinking of showing up around 8:30 tonight...any idea if that's too late?

g00blar (gooblar), Sunday, 6 August 2006 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'd say a bit earlier due to 10:30 finish on sundays.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 6 August 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

Cool thanks.

g00blar (gooblar), Sunday, 6 August 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be missing tonight as it's a friend's birthday and I'll be having dinner with Mormons instead, which is not very rock and roll I know. I fully intend to come to the Windmill though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 6 August 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

g00blar dude you were great on friday! sorry i ran off, had another gig. if you're there by 8.30 tonight you shouldn't miss anything, but any later and you might.

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 6 August 2006 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

also come to regents park first it is lush outside! i am taking *n*t*l**n br**kf*st.

emsk ( emsk), Sunday, 6 August 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

cheers emsk! Will be on time f'sure, but no regent's park as I am allergic to fun. And am getting to know the Norton Anthology of English Literature (again).

g00blar (gooblar), Sunday, 6 August 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Ohmigod, I love the Anatolian Breakfast. I had it for breakfast on Sunday. Food of the gods.

Thanks to everyone who came last night, and braved the heat. I actually had a lot of fun. Or maybe it was the gin.

And yes, mad props to Gooblar. *Especially* for the package that he slipped me last night. Oops, that sounded dirty when it's just supposed to sound illegal. ::lays finger aside nose::

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 7 August 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

Great gig, anyway. Nice full room too! And my friend, who really hasn't gone to a gig for the good part of a decade, is now trying to convince all and sundry to go to the windmill on the sixteenth--good job!

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

Excellent! We seem to have won a lot of converts last night, which is always good.

Judging from the people who approach me, we seem to have achieved that holy grail - of being a girl group that *girls* actually like. (Or maybe that's because that's all who approach me.)

So, errr. yes.

16th August - Windmill, Brixton
17th August - Progress Bar, Tuffnel Park

I'm going to die.

but YES, lovely night. let's play there again.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, my flatmate was very impressed. Nice gig, sound pretty good and stage antics plenty of fun (though Anna - spilling gin - proves why it should be pink wine or nothing).

Waiting for a big gig where we can see Anna and Marianna playing Tekken live during Pwned.

17th I'm there. Tuffers ain't far from my Manor.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, indeed. LOVELY sound.

Visits by the Gin Fairy are a good thing to have at gigs, too. (I spilled some on my Memory Man but it did not seem to affect his memory.)

I'm On The Radio So I Don't Care!!!1! (kate), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

the 17th is my birthday but i'll be in hong kong you are all to make lots of noise in my absence pls.

i thought the sound was a bit muddy in the beginning, i couldn't hear any of the pretty twinkly bits from the laptop.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

(emsk, I am reminding you about multi-out)

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we didn't really adequately soundcheck the laptop. The vocals sounded sweet, though - especially onstage, which they never do. IT's a bit weird to be able to hear yourself!

I'm On The Radio So I Don't Care!!!1! (kate), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

I really, really enjoyed that. And Scott the autograph hunter was cool! As was his missus, who apparently owns the scrapbook that said autographs will be put into. AWWWWWW!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

Guitar was very good on solos

Ed (dali), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

It's been a while since I had to sign an autograph! To the point where I had actually forgotten how to do mine own autograph. (This is very different from my actual legal signature. I am funny like that.)

Oh dear, I totally f*cked up a couple of solos. And went all dischordant, esp. on Stronger. But apparently this sounded good anyway, and was, like, improv and stuff. I did think on the train that I should try to improv some guitar solos instead of playing what I always play, to mix things up a bit. But I intended them to be more... tuneful.

I'm On The Radio So I Don't Care!!!1! (kate), Monday, 7 August 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't like the sound, but then I haven't really liked the sound in any of the non-living room gigs apart from 93FE. Good disaster control, and great to see PWNED for the first time.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and also: I finally figured out who Kaet's voice reminded me of: Claudia Gonson (of Magnetic Fields).

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeh, I can see that. Slightly nasal and NYish but warm and sharp at the same time, I guess.

In Search Of The Infinite Freckle (kate), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

this is from plum:

Dear All

It is with great regret that we announce that as of 15th August 2006,
Plum Music will no longer be overseeing the events at the Water Rats
Theatre. The event on the 14th will be our last show. Our events in
other venues will not be affected.

After nearly nine years of fantastic shows, consistently high quality
bookings, and an unfailing attention to detail, the landlord has given
us notice of his intention to bring in a new promoter without consulting
us. In short, we were kept in the dark about his intentions until the
deal was done, at which point it was too late for us to have any
influence.

This decision, and in particular the manner in which our dismissal has
been orchestrated, has come as a complete shock to us. Despite an
exceptionally hot July, and of course a certain tournament in Germany,
our own figures show that the amount of people coming into the venue has
been steady, and matches up well to comparisons for previous years. As a
company, we have continued to grow and thrive with the Water Rats at our
core - the landlord however, cites our work in other venues as having
been detrimental to business at the Water Rats - despite the fact that
this work has increased both our website traffic and our membership
scheme tenfold, with the Water Rats itself still as popular within the
industry as it has ever been.

Ostensibly, this decision seems to us to be counter-productive and
irrational. However, there may have been other factors that have caused
him to come the conclusion that the venue will be better off without us.
For this reason we respect his decision. That said, the manner in which
it was made has destroyed all trust between us. Rather than making clear
the absolute urgency of the situation and sitting down with us to
formulate a solution to our mutual benefit, he has chosen a path that in
our view benefits neither of us . Throughout our tenure, our loyalty to
both the landlord and the venue has been unwavering, and we have worked
closely with him over many years to ensure that any problems that have
arisen have always been solved together, to everyone's benefit. This
makes these recent actions even harder to stomach - all good will has
been destroyed, and, as a result, we feel we can no longer work with the
landlord, nor have any dealings with his choice of replacement promoter.

For this reason we feel it is best that we remove ourselves as quickly
as possible from the equation altogether in order to protect our own
business and the solid reputation we have built up over the years. We
are left with no option but to leave with immediate effect. The
thousands of unsigned bands that have worked with us, and the thousands
of music fans that joined our membership scheme and visit our website
every week will know that whilst we have always run a tight ship with a
solid business model, it is our passion for new music and its promotion
that has been the driving force behind everything that we do. We believe
in running our business ethically, so whilst it would make more sense
commercially for us to see out our notice, we cannot allow ourselves to
be further involved in a venue where we feel such a philosophy is at
risk of being compromised. All of this has been incredibly difficult to
accept, particularly as we have been given no time to prepare for it.
What makes it worse is the the knock on effect it will have on others -
not just on some of the bands we have booked, but particularly on the
fantastic, hardworking team we have put together during our tenure, that
have served us so loyally over the years. We can only hope everyone will
understand that having been presented with a fait accompli, these are
decisions that have been forced upon us.

All of our staff and equipment will be leaving. We are currently in the
process of negotiating a new home, which we hope to announce shortly.
This will be a completely clean break. We gather that a separate
statement will be made by the new promoters regarding their plans. We
hope that their resolve matches their ambition since it would be a great
shame to see the venue return to the doldrum state in which we found it
at the end of 1997. The venue today stands as one of the country's most
popular - a far, far better state than it was when we arrived. Building
and maintaining this has taken a huge amount of effort, and for our
part, we have eight and a half years, two and a half thousand gigs, and
somewhere in the region of four hundred thousand happy punters to look
back on. We leave the venue with a huge number of happy memories, and a
tremendous sense of pride in all that we have achieved. We'd like to
take this opportunity to thank everyone that has been involved with us
in any capacity over this time period, and we sincerely hope that we
will work together again in the future. If we have not managed to speak
to you in person yet, we apologise - as you can imagine, things have
been a little hectic. Any further questions, messages of support or
chocolates you might wish to send, the address is provided below...

As a great man once said, all things must pass. See you all on the other
side, fitter, stronger and wiser.

Allan, Sarah, Matthew and everyone at Plum Music.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

Omigod... :-(

In Search Of The Infinite Freckle (kate), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeah it's a shame. hope they find somewhere else nice soon. or hope they find a horrible dive and turn it into somewhere good to be. who's the new promoter gonna be there?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

No idea--but that (hope they find a horrible dive and turn it into somewhere good to be) might be the silver lining--i.e., water rats remains a good venue (it shouldn't be that difficult to maintain), and plum gives us another one.

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

We believe in running our business ethically, so whilst it would make more sense commercially for us to see out our notice, we cannot allow ourselves to be further involved in a venue where we feel such a philosophy is at risk of being compromised.

Is this likely to mean "we could have put on a few more gigs and paid our people during the looking-around period", or "we're going to be screwed for some breach-of-contract fee"?

Bit of a poisoned chalice for the new promoters, assuming this is the first they heard of it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

In the end any new promoter is scalping another exist promoters pitch. They may be able to get better bands, put better equipment in, promise more on the door - though any venue like the Rats with a long relationship with a promoter you'd think would talk through any changes with the current promoter. Not only is it polite, but it is good business practice. If the nu-promoter promises the moon on a stick, the best person to recognise if the numbers are realistic are another promoter. Not point being promised the moon on a stick if all you get is a stick with a white balloon full of hot air on the end of it.

So can't feel sorry for new promoter. Note though that Plum are not saying boycott the new promoter.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Tonight, tonight... is not like any night...

das Fräuleinmaschine (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

It'll be my first ever Shimuragig tonight. I shall lurk in the shadows and report my conclusions in the morning.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, come and say hello. Go on.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, keep an eye out for Anna, she'll be the pepper plant.

Mmmm, peppers. Mmmm, spicey peppers. Mmmmm, burritos.

Where can I get burritos in Brixton?

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

My mate Jose's house.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Please bring some? Please?

I am soooo craving burritos. I'm even craving those nasty, microwave dozen in a freezer bag burritos we used to get at Price Chopper during totally stoned 3am burrito runs.

Oh, man, I could be bad and go to Cafe Pacifico for lunch, but that place is expensive. Mmm, peach salsa, though.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

What time is showtime tonight?

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

I'm coming tomorrow, and will be bringing Shimura Virgins. What time are you onstage?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I'll be at the Norf gig rather than the Sarf gig. Though see how I feel at 6pm today. Of course they could massively vary the sets thus enticing me to both!

(Tufnell park proximity to good Ethiopian food is attracting me - as well as obv proximity TO MY HOUSE!!!)

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

Tonight we are on at Windmill O'Clock. Second band on, so I imagine this will be about 8.45 or so.

Shimura Virgins? Ah, more groupies for AMP. Excellent. ::ducks::

Tomorrow? I don't know. Marianna? Does it say on the flyer anywhere?

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we might do "Magnus" at one gig and "Mother" at the other but I'm not sure which will be which.

Also might substitute "Lost Rivers of Clerkenwell" for "I Capture The Castle" but since we didn't rehearse the former*, that might be a bad idea.

*I was too busy lying on Marianna's bed laughing about Ten Silver CC to remember it.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

As much as I like Mother it would be great to hear Magnus again tomorrow...

When is the cover of Silver Machine ready?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:22 (nineteen years ago)

When I get a Secret Machine as my personal sex slave pedal tech.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

Those pics on the flyers, in fact the flyers themselves, are way cool.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:27 (nineteen years ago)

Magnus tomorrow please!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

Wouldn't it be funny if he actually turned up?

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

what time are you on stage for the tufnell park gig?

and pete, can you recommend any good ethiopian eateries?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

Mmmm, yes, there's a great one... I don't know the name of it, I just passed it on the bus home from Marianna's. I think I am going to go there before the gig. It is on the main road with all the restaurants - it has a big upstairs with lots of windows opening on the street. Sorry this is so useless.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

Lalibela it's called. I went with the Lovely Emma B once and we ate and ate and ate and it was beautiful.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, that's the one. I'm going between soundcheck and show, oh yeah. GOing to stuff myself with injera.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

Make sure you can stand and will not be sick.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:51 (nineteen years ago)

oh, its there! that place reminds of somewhere like chapel hill, from the outside.

-- (688), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

cool - might go there myself with my friend who will hopefully be coming. er, what is the name of the main road with the restaurants?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

Look, it's North London! I can barely make my way around without a passport! I don't know the names of roads and stuffs.

Negative Spaceman (kate), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

Best "worst gig ever" ever!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 August 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

I was planning on Lalibella too (just down Fortess Road from Tufnell Park Tube).

Explain yerself Andrew Farrell.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 17 August 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

There were technical problems stopping just short of something exploding in a shower of sparks and/or a floodlight falling from the ceiling, but the band soldiered through cheerfully, from what I saw (though I drew the slow straw and was sitting with everyone's bags at the table).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 August 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed. I thought that, apart from technical difficulties, the sound man adjusted as the show went on and the sound got a lot better. And there's really no faulting the Curves' charming as always performance.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 17 August 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)

You really should say hello if you're going to keep turning up to these! Will you be there this evening?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 August 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

I know! I get terminally shy at these things, something about standing alone in a pub that turns me sixteen years old again..but I was (am) the guy telling you about starting my teaching job on 9/11.

Can't come tonight as am PLAYING SOFTBALL!

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 17 August 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew, we all met him at 93ft East, though you were there?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 August 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

(dies of embarrasment)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 August 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Pshaw, nonsense. Even I don't recognize my face in the mirror sometimes, especially with my new beard.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 17 August 2006 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

Is anyone planning on going to a pub before the gig? If so, which one?>

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 August 2006 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

i'd like to go to a pub or the lalibela place, either really. (ie either i will eat tonight or i will drink!) what time are those who are lalibela-ing be there?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 17 August 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

I am planning on going straight to the Progress Bar, where I'm meeting people. It looks decent enough for a pre-gig pint.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 August 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yes, good point, I was confused by the word 'bar' there.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

where is the progress bar?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

tufnell park rd, by my house:)

-- (688), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

My plan is Progress Bar for sixish, Lalibella after a pint (7-ish) and then back for more Progress...

http://www.fancyapint.com/main_site/thepubs/pub1148.html

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

ah progress is where the gig is! i didn't realise.

dunno when i'll finish work/how hungry i'll be/&c &c. i'll be, y'know, AROUND later i guess.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I am having a bit of a mental day and will be screaming for beer by the end of it. Either to celebrate with or to slowly drown the ongoing work frustration.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 17 August 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

in case anna/kate look in here, i did quickly look for you on my leaving early last night, but didn't see either of you. just wanted to say: great stuff!

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Friday, 18 August 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

can i also just add "progress bar" worst name ever for a pub. they even have a "progress bar" type logo. gahhhh awful

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Friday, 18 August 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Post-gig, I witnessed scenes involving the Lex and Miss AMP's 17 year old groupie that put the events of Trig Brother in the shade.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 August 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

The Lex is becoming such a sexual predator! Aww.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 18 August 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Another terrific gig, though I hope you don't go adopting a baby grand for future appearances, it will be a bugger to lump around. And thanks for playing Magnus, it brought a tear to my eye last night.

Not sure why, but it did. I just love the harmonies in it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 18 August 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

that was the first time i'd seen 'pwnd' live - terrific fun! those were playstations, right? so now i know what they look like!

i approved very much of the piano.

i think it was much tamer than the events of trig bro.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 18 August 2006 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

They're Playstation controllers, yes. Actually, you've just reminded me of the best bit of the night which was Anna and Marianna ACTUALLY MIMING A TEKKEN FITE ONSTAGE! Awesome.

Everything is better with a white baby grand. Also, we decided last night that Stronger + sleighbells = Christmas single. Make it happen.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 18 August 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

<geek>I thought they were Gamecube controllers</geek>

Yes, a good gig, the Twin Crane style during pwned was a particular highlight.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 August 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

def GC controllers!!

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Friday, 18 August 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

is a gamecube different to a playstation?!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 18 August 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

no they are identical in all but name

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Friday, 18 August 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

You say that with your eyes bleeding.

Actually, what with the lead in time for Christmas singles, best get writing the song that will pay your bills forevermore now.

(I always thought I was stronger than God...
I got God, You Got Pwned.
I'll be your Mother, I'll be your Virgin Mary).
Perhaps a bit too Christian.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you all for coming.

Just wondering... did any of you actually get a picture of the white baby grand piano?

Negative Spaceman (kate), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure Rob did. Most of the phots were on the right, but lets see.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 18 August 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

They're Nintendo controllers!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 18 August 2006 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed myself at the Windmill, despite the obvious technological problems.

Was humming various Shimura songs all weekend, which can only be a good thing.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

Me too, all Friday, and lots of different ones as well, like "you don't believe in coincidence" verse is humming around the back of my head at the mo.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

You don't believe in coincidence
you don't believe in chance
You want the world to be organised
Like some great Newtonian Dance

(Lyrics as accurate as those on a standard lyric site - ie, probably miles out).

Pete (Pete), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's 'You want the world to be ordered like some strict Newtonian dance', I think.

I have Magnus in my bag, ready for tonight.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hadn't you better let him out, then? Poor boy won't be able to breathe in there!

the dad joke I had to make (kate), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Please are you going to venture out of that there London place and come and try Glasgow more please? My plans to come to London and visit keep getting scuppered by other plans that involve me not being in London.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 21 August 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
WE ARE GOING TO BE ON THE TELLY!!! HURRAH HURRAH FOR US!!! HELLO MUM, I'M ON THE TELLY!!!!!

Next Wednesday, 13th September. BBC 1 Breakfast TV.

Tell your mothers and your brothers and your grandparents, too.

So you better buy our single soon before we are totally famous television stars and you can only see us in magazines. :-)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

Breakfast is the new TOTP, after all. Will you get to snuggle up to Bill on the sofa?

I bought the single in Rough Trade, by the way. Am impressed, and haven't been impressed by many records recently.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 8 September 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I'm glad you liked it!

No, it's not live, it was recorded last week. So no snuggling on the sofa. It's all lights and mirrors, the telly.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

My mum was in a Breakfast pre-recorded feature once. She had to walk into an old person's living room and make the same small talk about their Christmas tree 15 times while they shot it from different angles.

And it was a pretty shitty Christmas tree, truth be told. Barely worthy of comment.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 8 September 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

i don't suppose you know what time yr going to be on do you? i only usually watch from about 8.10 to 8.25 at most you see (time taken to drink coffee and smoke fag before leaving for work)...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 September 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

At the moment, they don't have an exact timeslot, but this is what they said:

At the moment it's scheduled for Wednesday next week. It's not been given a time slot yet, but I imagine it will run either 0720 and 0820 or 0740 and 0840. I'll be able to tell you an exact time on Tuesday.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

I am sure it'll be on Youtube in seconds.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 8 September 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

I can never get YouTube to work! Boo hoo!

But apparently we may be getting a DVD of it anyway. :-)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Friday, 8 September 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

haha sweet:

My Boss: why are you late for work?
me: dude, i was watching my friends on breakfast tv!!!

(she used to be in a band (with a bloke out of plast!c fantast!c) so i'm sure she'd appreciate it)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

So why are you on the BBC? And why am I posting at three minutes past miidnight on a Friday night / Saturday morning?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 8 September 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

If there is anyone left on the face of the planet ILX who doesn't have our single yet, you can get it through Rough Trade Mail Order like a proper indie seven inch.

Why are we on the BBC? because we're BRILLIANT, that's why! Clearly!

Uh, no, wait, because interweb celebrity Miss AMP is talking about the new modern interweb, how it is changing, and how it is changing our lives - and Shimura Curves, being an interweb supergroup as we are - is (are?) an example of that.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

I see. But that still doesn't explain why was I posting at three minutes past midnight on a Friday night / Saturday morning?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Were you drunk? ;-)

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was going to say, it's always been a matter of courtesy or obligation for a TV company to give copies of TV appearances to those who appear on them, if asked.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

i don't know how i'm going to watch this!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

On a TV?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

i don't have a tv. there is one at work but it has to be tuned to news 24 at all times.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

News 24 shows Breakfast between 7 and 9am, I think.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

I would offer to have a watching party, but I don't have a telly, either.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

Hi there - it's going to be on at 7.40 and 8.40am, if you're interested.

ampster (ampster), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Someone must YouTube this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

VCR set!

g00blar (gooblar), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

I just saw a brief flash of Curves in a promo for what's on later...

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:36 (nineteen years ago)

OMG!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:37 (nineteen years ago)

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

OMG! OMG! OMG!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:45 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, the cameraman seemed awfully fond of you particularly!

Looking (and sounding) good, girls!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

I fancy the one on the end.

What's her name? Oh yeah, Kate. Silverton.

Just kiddin'! Hurrah!

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

oh my GOD guys haha FFS! this is so cool!

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

You had the guy who wrote AJAX talking about your band afterwards!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:02 (nineteen years ago)

oh bollocks i missed that bit i was toobusy going WWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHh!!! i guess it's on again in 1hr...

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:04 (nineteen years ago)

I can't see it! I feel like I'm blind. Suddenly I regret my lack of tv.

ampster (ampster), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:07 (nineteen years ago)

I saw the trailer, but then had to go to work. Aargh! At least I should have a recorded copy when I get home.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:13 (nineteen years ago)

Did you mention to them that the internet generation has cast off the shackles of outmoded media outlets? Its a shame there were no obvious urls for people to follow.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:13 (nineteen years ago)

i thought that too, but my flatmate was watching with me and she said it said SHIMURA CURVES in massive letters several times. i will vhs it when it's on in 20 mins.

they just showed the trailer again!

Here we go again...

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:38 (nineteen years ago)

slightly less tired (no less hung over) so I noticed them putting the single cover full screen.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

I couldn't help but notice that the phrase "really disgustingly underage" was clearly visible on the Ampnet page they showed.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

I did wonder why I instantly got an add from a 16-year-old boy.

ampster (ampster), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:45 (nineteen years ago)

OMG!!!! well done you guys!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

(came into work and watched on conference room BIG SCREEN!)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 06:48 (nineteen years ago)

I saw the first showing - well done all concerned!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:05 (nineteen years ago)

That's really not a very good photo of AMP on that BBC page :)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:10 (nineteen years ago)

The David Schneider-looking guy on the sofa was called Ajax, I think, I got confused. The other guy, who may actually have been Penn Gillete, was a lot more entertaining in his variety of bollocks talked.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

I missed this because I couldn't wake up!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

What was it like!

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

Lots of close-ups of shoes and MySpace pages. In the the discussion afterwards, the words "Sticky and Brown" were about three feet tall on the giant screen behind the guests' heads.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Oh I put some pics on the "Wednesday" thread. Would you like to see them here?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:03 (nineteen years ago)

In the the discussion afterwards, the words "Sticky and Brown" were about three feet tall on the giant screen behind the guests' heads.

lol i missed that!

anna it was COOL.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

The David Schneider-looking guy on the sofa was called Ajax, I think, I got confused.

was that the thinner one with the bad facial hair (as opposed to the fat american one)? he was a massive twat and i bet he would be unbearable company in a pub. the american was ok, v enthusiastic and stuff.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but he was talking complete bollocks from start to end.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:27 (nineteen years ago)

Ignore those boys. Tell me how fabulous *I* was/am! ;)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

You're the first person singing, and the last close-up! Great as usual.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, the talking heads were HILARIOUS because the one was going "look, she didn't need to hire an expensive web consultant..." not realising that AMPy *IS* an expensive web consultant... ha ha ha.

No, that was great.

::BOGGLE::

I'm so proud of our band. Everyone looked FAB and AMP just came across like the most amazing Lady About Town, petting cats on Brick Lane and playing in a cool interweb band in her beautiful townhouse.

It was weird seeing my photo WITH A GLASS OF WINE giant and big when they paged down AMP's space. Ohmigod, my mum and my godmum will see me drinking. Wait a minute, my godparents drink more than anyone! hurrah!

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

I couldn't help but notice that the phrase "really disgustingly underage" was clearly visible on the Ampnet page they showed.

Also the pan down the page included her friend Drugs Are Nice. Stop this sick filth!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

Have we had hundreds of grannies wanting to be our friend yet? I haven't checked our mail at all. I did email the BBC and suggest they put up a link, though.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

I just saw it; pretty f*cking great! Everyone looked super-cool, AMP of course confident and totally pwning the semi-clueless presenters, and "Stronger" will be in my head all day (as well as in the heads of 'millions of viewers at home'!)

Was 'Shimura Curves' ever actually said out loud? Or just shown on computer screens a couple times?

g00blar (gooblar), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, AMPy said Shimura Curves near the beginning. Wandering around Shoreditch. Heh.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

I missed the bit where they were talking about the band, mostly because I didn't expect it to happen. I'm presuming someone taped this?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks to Koogsy for some clips and stuffs:

http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/photos/sc4.jpg

And I don't care if YSI is banned on ILX because I OWN THE COPYRIGHT ON THIS SONG AND I SAY IT'S OK TO DOWNLOAD THIS CLIP.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)

youtubing Koogy's TVRIP as we speak

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

I have a DVD+RW disc with the file on, here.

It seems to be 'merged' with several other videos though.

Was the 07:35 version (i.e. the interview) any different to the latter one? (I recorded the hour between 07:15 and 08:15 on a different disc)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

You need DivX codec or VLC to watch that clip FYI.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Apropos of nothing, pink wine fans. Waitrose has a promo on Boschendal pink wine. Normally I don't buy extra-european wines but I've been to the vinyard a couple of times and it's well worth drinking.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

It will be shortly, somewhere in the bowels of youtube it is going through the transcoder mangle.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, AMPy said Shimura Curves near the beginning

It's even better than that: an actual ident-thingy, like "John Smith - MegaGlobalCo"

Roffle at the grabbing motion during "from the bottom up"

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, I really liked the studio magic trickery, whereby it looked like AMPy was watching us ON HER LAPTOP in her flat, and then the music would come flying out of the laptop and end up on the screen. That was well cool.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

youtube works now

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

Howabout a version where one of the TV screens is showing the BBC Breakfast time bit?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

OK, yeah, some web genius me, I can't even make YouTube and MySpace play nice together. Sigh.

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 09:36 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's not me being a morong. The 5.1 million viewers of BBC Breakfast have poxy fuled our MySpace. Ha ha, take that, Web 2.0

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

Is this thread working?

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, it is just teh cooler which is hated. :-(

Angel In Love With Her Own Pedals (kate), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

bizarre, for me as well, time for an early new 'cooler?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

Shimura Curves first ever sans Kate gig!

!!! ???

(kick ass pic, btw)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 28 September 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

That flyer is a bit wrong! Hasn't AMP updated it to say "Kate will be phoning it in via MP3, due to being stuck at Monthend - and BTW it's not very NYCE when a fox eats one's lambs."

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, I did that wrong.

"Anna, Yanna and AMP will be singing pretty harmonies, while Kate phones it in via MP3, due to being stuck at work late at monthend, sweating like a ligger. Like karaoke, only posher. It's not very NYCE when a fox eats one's lambs."

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

Ah. Phew.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yana. Yana, Yana, Yana. Sorry, I am always mispelling your nickname! You can start calling me K7 or something.

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

What time are you on stage? I'm considering flitting between this and the Pamflet party as they're pretty close together.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

If we get a wig someone can stand in for Kate at the back. I can use my special voice to sing Sticky & Brown.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

"It was great! Kate did these wicked DDR moves!"

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

The problem is, I would really want to *SEE* my hilarious stand-in.

But obviously, if I could be there, I would be playing in the first place. Bah.

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Do you think you might make it Kate, or is there no way in hell? (To watch obv, not to play.)

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

last monthend, I left the office about about 11.15. So... no.

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

That flyer!

But, sans Kate, how will it go without......the JAZZMASTER? Are SC really SC without the beautiful Jazzy?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 28 September 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm really hating the Jay-Master at the moment. The pickup switch has decided not to switch to the neck pickup at ALL any more. :-(

We Are The Village Green Psychiatric Society (kate), Thursday, 28 September 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

Badness. Should be easy to fix though.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 28 September 2006 11:11 (nineteen years ago)

who else is playing again? the shimuras flyer only mentions the shimuras, and the memory machine flyer only mentions the memory machine, and i know fiel garvey are on too but their website's also useless, and there's buggerall online about the gig or the venue or bloody anything...whatever happened to people plugging each other's gigs?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

Who's playing on Tuesday 3rd October?
SHIMURA CURVES
SANDRA & THE MEMORY MACHINE
FIEL GARVIE
ANTON SWORD
@ The Comedy

THE COMEDY is a superb venue in the very heart of London - squeezed in between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Sq. It is a medium sized basement club and with a great sound system, stage and lights and has become known as another great place to play for bands in central London.

7 Oxendon St., London, SW1
(tubes: Piccadilly Circus / Leicester Sq.; Oxendon St. is off Coventry St., the venue is situated next to The Comedy Store, opposite Planet Hollywood)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

there is first ANTON SWORD then FIEL GARVIE then SANDRA & THE MEMORY MACHINE then SHIMURA CURVES oh and some dude djing called chuckie 7 or something ;) and it is at THE COMEDY on OXENDON ST somewhere in COVENT GARDEN

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

i just got an odd myspazz message off a sundry schla implying that they were playing, which confused me somewhat.

emsk, it's not really near covent garden!

what time are doors?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

No no, not Covent Garden. Piccadilly Circus.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, it's true, Chuck, you really do hate me, you only go to Shimuras gigs when I'm not playing these days. :-(

Make sure you see Anton Sword, I used to be in Fugue State (kraut hop trio) with him back in NYC, he's very very good.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

oh meh, that's just not true! sorry to be missing you (and sorry for bailing on sonic cathedrals last week, stuck at work)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

It's OK, I bailed on Sonic Cathedrals, too. Meh.

Everybody hates me, people like my band better when I'm not in it, and even Benjamin shouted at me today. It's not my day. :-(

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

I really want to go, the lineup looks great, however my annual early october flu is menacing.

Ed (dali), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Any idea when SC are on, then?

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just not going to read this thread anymore, it's too depressing.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

*snores*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

Benjamin DID shout at me, though. It's ruined my whole day.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

Were you arguing over pedals again? Or some unheard of mathematical theory? Or whether there ever should have been a romance between Kelly and Brandon given the number of times he said "Kel, I love you. Like a sister!" Even the morning after their non-marriage!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's really stupid. One of the kids on the TSM board started this fake MySpace for him, and we were all over there making stupid comments like "no, he's going to marry ME" and "No, you cheesemunching whore, you only love him for his pedals!" and stupid crap like that.

But then apparently his family found it, and thought it was real, so he posted to say "it's NOT me, I don't know who made this" and I tried to say "be cool, it's just a bit of fun" but then he thought *I* made it, and wrote to me privately to shout at me.

So I had to write him back and say, "look, dude, I didn't make it, but you know, it IS just a bit of fun for us girls. I know it must be weird for you, but you're a freaking pop star, this stuff happens, deal!"

And now I feel like a big fat freaking idiot. :-(

...and everyone hates me.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahaha! I'm sorry he shouted at you, but I think your reply was perfect. I'm sure he'll calm down and apologise. I mean, he can't think that this hasn't happened to any other popstar in the world. And surely he's aware of his status as bohunk of the month or whatever! You should email him again and mention that at least it's not bro on bro slashfiction.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

do you need a stand-in guitarist?

i don't have a name that incorporates either "anna" or "marie" in it though.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

none of the flyers says what time it opens either :-(

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ours does! 7pm!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

And surely he's aware of his status as bohunk of the month or whatever!

Benjamin's Ukranian?

g00blar (gooblar), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

"hillbilly" he claims. :-(

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck, I didn't even realise that we were talking about it on this thread and not the 'Cooler. I should shut the fuck up. :-(

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ours does! 7pm!

oops, you're absolutely right and i am an idiot.

7 it is then, i shall astound all present with the new art brut and shortwave set singles, and various bits of the long blondes album...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

BWAH HAH HAH HAH HAH!

Pitchfork in "not getting a Neu! reference" shockah!

Shimura Curves carefully apportion electro-pop, Jesus & Mary Chain fuzz, and bilingual romantic confusion on sparkly "Noyfriend"

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

woot! props for the mention anyroad.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 October 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

This is tonight! We are going to rule!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

Is it my imagination or is that Katey on the How Does It Feel cover?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Also what time are you on stage?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah that's Katey, and this really nice guy who I've met a bazillion times and yet I still call him Ian when that's not his name. Me = bad person.

Not positive of the stage times, probably 10/10.30. What time does Pamflet run til? I wanna at least go and say hi.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Midnight I think... 10-10.30 is good for me, means I can hang at the party for a bit and maybe go back to the Social with you guys?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds potentially like a plan. I wanna go see another Raindance film post sound-check/pre-gig, but I might get yelled at by our manager. ;)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

that guy who you think is ian is called james i believe.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

That's the one.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Bump bump bump

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

i bloody forgot the long blondes album, so unless anyone has a lead which connects an mp3 player to a mixer, i can't play any tonight. very bloody cross about this.

still, woo! it's tonight! and will be lovely.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

I can find and bring one, chuck.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

are you playing again now? good. i have one of those leads that plugs into a headphone socket and into an amp. er, shimuras might need it though.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm unlikely to be trying to drown them out WHILE THEY'RE ON STAGE though!

thanks ed, that's lovely - you know the one i mean, right? headphone to double, umm, well, we've always called them banana plugs but i've no idea what they're actually called. those ones that connext different bits of a separates system together innit.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

ps. emsk, didn't you get my texts about turning up regardless (and putting names on' door?)?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

no sorry, phone is off. will switch on.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

double RCAs

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

i think i prefer bananas ;-)

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, but gold plated bananas are going to get the long blondes into the mixer.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

and the significant owl hoots silently on moonless nights

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Quit talking tech and tell me how many cute boys you're bringing to the show. We want fresh blood.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

um, one? maybe? and a cute girl? amn't i cute enough? pah.

also emsk/everyone, the dead or alive mailout i just received says doors are at 8 tonight, but that can't be right can it?

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'm bringing myself and I have no ticks in my iSpy book of Shimura Curves ;-)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Ack, DoA would be more likely to have the accurate time of opening. And Charlie, of course you're a hottie (esp when sporting pigtails)! But you're not blonde, or light brown, and you don't have a North American accent. Which is what I'd quite like for this evening. ;)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, glad to see someone misses me. :-P

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

No lesbotronics tonight!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

kate, if you have a north american accent in 2006, i'm a box of sparrows.

marianna, shall i bring this fella then?

http://www.lacoctelera.com/myfiles/quefuede/David%20Soul01.jpg

he seems to fit the bill!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

ps. 8pm opening time 100% confirmed by nicholas.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

I do *SO* have a North American accent!

I fought hard to learn this accent, I got beaten up until I learned it, I am KEEPING it.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

you sound like madonna.

*ducks, while cackling*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck AWF, Charles.

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, speaking of accents, why am I taking this abuse from a man so wet he makes Hugh Grant sound like Vinnie Jones?

Fuck off back to Surrey, you posh home counties git!

Virginia Plainsong (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Quiet, the both of you!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

this reminds me of that throwdown we had at that blur gig in oxford where security thought we were having an Actual Proper Fight...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was gonna say, Chuck and I fite! It's what we do! It's our schtick! I mean, wasn't that when I met you? Getting chucked out oa Blur gig at Oxford University because we were headbutting each other on the dancefloor?

Actually, no, I met you for the first time backstage at a Divine Comedy gig, ha ha ha, but that can't have been long after.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

and well-spoken != wet, you swine...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

Pip-pip, cheerio, Maaaaaah-ter, I'm off to play the graaaaahnd piaaaaaahhh-no!

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Bump bump bump
-- Anna (Fieldingann...), October 3rd, 2006

I think I'd like you guys to cover B2K actually.

Dunno about tonight - I'm stuck at work already and am weary. Is 10 the gig time?

Badrock Example (Barima), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

At least one of the other acts (Sandra and the Memory Machine) is also awesome, but I don't know when they're on.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

They are indeed awesome.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

(Saying Awesome is as bad as saying Fan-dabby-dozy in my book, but they are very good).

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

they are on second to last. anton sword - fiel garvie - sandra & the memory machine - shimura curves

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

but not an excuse not to come early doors and see all the bands

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea who or what Fiel Garvie is, but I reiterate - Anton Sword is very very good, well worth catching him.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

I lost my bow!

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

You took advantage of kate being away to play THE VIOLA?

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

Did anyone take pictures?

I mourn the loss of the bow. :-(

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

maybe that girl from baxendale can lend you one.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 08:37 (nineteen years ago)

sorry about your bow, marianna. you looked like a lost orphan after the catastrophe :-(

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

So, when's the next one?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 9 October 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

The next definite gig is 2nd Nov at the Fly Bar on New Oxford St.

AMP (ampster), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:50 (nineteen years ago)

FKA McDonalds

Ed (dali), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

I was just coming here to say that!

If you can't wait until then to get your fix, may I be so selfish as to point out that I'm playing a solo gig (very new songs, very old songs, and yes, Gareth, even "Hung With Joy") at the Brixton Windmill on Sunday, 22nd October. Point and laugh, if you choose.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Monday, 9 October 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, we went to rehearse in Shoreditch last night, and guess who our sound engineer was? ILX CELEBRITIY DAVE Q!!!

He nicked a Fender Twin from another band for me. And then he asked if we had any drugs. I feel like I had an authentic Dave Q experience.

Anyway, err, yeah. Upcoming shows!

Don't forget I'm playing a SOLO SHOW at the Windmill next Sunday (22nd October).

And we'll be debuting Shimura Curves, Mach 3 on the 2nd November. Turn up and dance down the front, and you may find yourself in the band by the next gig!

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

A tenner to the first person to photoshop Dave Q into the SCs!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:27 (nineteen years ago)

Mach 3?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

ALL OF THEM.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

All the machs, too. They can spin around the inside of the gigs in experimental planes at different multiples of the speed of sound, creating an inexcapable whirlwind of pop.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

3 times the speed of sound.

With added extra PAYN3.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Kate may have alluded to this, but as there hasn't been an Announcement as such...

For those who are not aware, the beautiful and talented and gorgeous Anna Fielding has left Shimura Curves. This is not the forum for discussing the reasons why or to speculate on her career in a sassy, sub-Peaches offshoot; but I will say that whilst this decision was made for several good reasons, she will be sorely missed.

And, because we are the hipper older sisters of the Sugababes whose lineup rotates on a once-yearly basis, we have a new recruit: the lovely Lisa Payne.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

Anna out! Oh no.

Kate, this popped into my inbox yesterday :

Sun 22 - LONDON, The Windmill, Blenheim Gardens, SW2 - NIGHTINGALES + Manic Cough + Look Look (dancing boys) + The Bronsteins + Butcher's Boy + Kate ST.Claire (Shimura Curves). 5.00pm, £5 (02086710700) www.windmillbrixton.co.uk

Mon 23 - BRIGHTON, Prince Albert, Trafalgar Street, BN1 - NIGHTINGALES + Fractured + The Rubbish. 8pm, £7, £6 advance, £5 concessions (01273730499)www.ents24.com/web/venue/24967/Brighton/Prince_Albert.html

So you're supporting the Nightingales too! We were supposed to be doing the Brixton gig too, but I think teh drummer is away or something. I thought we were doing Exeter too, but it doesn't seem to be on the tour list any more.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, we're playing with LOOK LOOK (dancing boys) at another thing next month, as well. IT'S ALL CONNECTED.

Three In A Bed Socks Romp (kate), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

AMPy's been mucking about with teh MySpace, putting new stuffs up. Look! It's our big bosh cover we were talking about. Well, no, not really. But still a big cover.

Blah Blah Blah (kate), Wednesday, 18 October 2006 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

Kate - how did yr solo gig go?

We had fun with the Nightingales last night. Attila The Stockbroker was there and Everett True was DJ-ing.

Nightingales guitarist Alan seemed to know all about the Shimura Curves!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

Did Attila perform?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

Really? Huh. I was so tired I ended up leaving before they went on, which I felt bad about, but I could barely keep my eyes open.

It went OK, but I really don't enjoy playing gigs with no one else onstage. It just feels too freaking weird and empty up there, like there's no one to pick up the slack when I go all shoegazing. Makes me look forward to playing with a full band again.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

Know what you mean, not that I've ever done solo, there is a comfort in knowing that you're covered..

Ed - no, he drank beer and chatted about football!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

Bah. go to Spain on the 2nd. And not the kind of Spain that is convenient to New Oxford Street.

You could always just miss your plane again... ;-)

Going Through The Motions (kate), Friday, 27 October 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, I'll have my mother with me who will be ensuring I hit it this time, otherwise don't think I won't I like sticking it to the Easyjet MAN.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 27 October 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Fly Bar? Do (Scottish) people go in there for a fly pint? I'd like to come to this gig but have to see what I'm doing that night, Toozeday

Sorry, wrong thread, oops. Argh.

Errr... it is a Thursday. Next Thursday, in fact, I believe. Eep! There is nothing Scottish about the bar. It's just called The Fly Bar as it is run by the Barfly.

Going Through The Motions (kate), Friday, 27 October 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

Oh fuck, Thursday, I must learn how to use a calendar one of these days

Dear Cafes of London:

When I ask for my sandwich toasted, please respect my wishes and actually give it a good toasting. Don't just stick it in the thing for a minute and call it done. I realize you want to have quick service, but please, think for a moment on the subject of why someone would want their sandwich toasted. I think you'll find that the only possible motivation is that said customer wants his sandwich 1)hot 2)crispy 3)MELTY. If those characteristics are not met, getting a sandwich in only one minute DOESN'T REALLY MATTER, DOES IT?!!

Signed,
Your sucker of a customer

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

um, wrong thread. Excuse me.

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

And what do you expect Shimura Curves to do about that?

Write a song called "Dear Cafes Of London" ?

(Actually, that's not a band idea. Though lord knows, the St.Etienne comparisons will never cease then...)

Going Through The Motions (kate), Thursday, 2 November 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, that's not a band idea

Freudian slip?

g00blar (gooblar), Thursday, 2 November 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

::bounce::

I'm getting excited now.

Or that might be the double chocaccino and the Roxy Music.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

Marianna is drunked already!!!

This should be interesting indeed!

And I'm covered in chocolate, bah. Not very glam, I bet Roxy Music have never gone onstage covered in chocolate. Unless, like, glamourous models were showering them in the stuff.

Please can I have some glamourous male models to shower me with chocolate? (but not to get any on my pedals, pls.)

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

wow. being a butler is FUN. no wonder dickon is doing it

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 November 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

A slogan came to me last night:
Shimura Curves: Pure Pop for Neu! People.

Excellent show; although the sound(man) wasn't great, the performance definitely was. I noticed a couple of new harmonies, and liked 'em. Blog song's pretty great. BLT was actually pretty revelatory.

g00blar (gooblar), Friday, 3 November 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, sorry we got you kicked out for Being A Butler, Ken. We'll have to get you a proper suit and maybe one of those tasting glass on a chain things.

Thanks so much to everyone who came last night. It turned into a really good night, even despite all the sound problems.

Yay, glad the new songs went down well. BLT... yeah. I love that song so much, it can do no wrong.

Also, the new keyboards on Noyfriend make me so happy.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man, Ladyfest, not sure about that

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

A festival, with ladies, what's there to be unsure about?

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Will they screech about menstruation cycles in my ear, daddy?

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

Wet Dog are good. They're currently also The Subway Sect - they're re-recording the 'lost' SS album with Vic Godard at the moment.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

I saw them with VG! They're not all ladies tho?

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

It's just a gig. The people who are promoting it are very nice. I've no idea what, if anything, the Ladyfest link is. Trust me, if it were rubbish, I wouldn't be doing it. AMPy likes No Bra. Don't know the other bands.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Will they screech about menstruation cycles in my ear, daddy?

Menstruation cycles only screech if the brake blocks are badly adjusted.

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 November 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

OMG, that was such a fun gig! Thanks to everyone who came! xxx

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

You get a lot of gigs, you must have a good manager ;)

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

oh you didn't get me kicked out kate! i mean the first time round i guess maybe (he just went 'xcuse me mate can't drink this here' so i just offered to drink it outside and he was happy with it! haha it was kind of funny being a hobo drinking rosé on the steps on the street wearing a new coat! haha.

by the way sorry! when i got back the guy asked "i heard someone brought your drinks back in, who was it?" and i grassed you up. oops. i didn't think to say "oh that noisy rock band person" haha. oh well.

i also apologised to the girl at the door if i had caused her problems when i meant to ask her for a date.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

the three for fif girl?

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we smartly went to the Ladies' Loo to finish the booze. I told the doorspersons that it was our rider, and if they had a problem with it, to speak to our manager. She smiled at me the next time she saw me go by with a glass of pink wine from the bar, so obviously not too much trouble happened.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

fun gig! was so drunk! hangover today more than compensated for by CHAMPAGNE AND CHOCOLATES in the office.

'bizarre love triangle' is so pop.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Indie, indie, indie!

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

i love new order though!

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

No sousaphone, no credibility

Ed (dali), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

They are the very definition of an indie band, back when the very idea of indie was being writ! They were on Factory Records, the most indie of the indies, when that song was released!

It may be their most pop single, but they are indie!

You are indie! Admit it, Lex!

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

It came after "Touched by the hand of God" which is where they jumped the indieshark.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 3 November 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Friday, 3 November 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

In that pic you look a bit like the characters in the new eBay advert.

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Friday, 3 November 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

You need to hassle Miss AMP for more photos. She said she would send me the files, but it is too big, and I need to wait and get it with my BigStick.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Friday, 3 November 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

AMP's camera has LOADS of great photos! taken expertly.
