OK, I've set up a league, with the 'quirky' name of ILX World Cup on the Metro site as that seemed to be the most popular on the other thread. You'll need this code to join:

14020-2783

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

ILE has just eaten all my HTML, and half my message. Anyway, the league is on the Metro website (as that seemed to be the most popular on the other thread):
http://fantasyfootball.metro.co.uk/

...and you'll need this code to join: 14020-2783

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah! I'm in.

caek (caek), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah! I am in! I've never done this before!

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah!

Republica Redcliffe are go.

Ranking Rupert (Ranking Rupert), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

haikunym is in
i am "extremely gruntled"
and ready to win

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

bump

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 07:05 (nineteen years ago)

£100m seems like an awful lot of money to spend considering the prices of some of the top players. Not that a team full of top players would have helped four years ago, mind.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Suedey! Thread derail, but have a page or anything for your comics? Always enjoyed the ones you'd post over on the 'lith.

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

Buffon
Ferreira
Terry
Heinze
Gallas
Galasek (sub)
Ronaldinho (cap)
Alonso
Julio Baptista
Shevchenko
Messi
Henry

but J Baptista and Galasek probably not first-teamers, hm.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 08:57 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, see what I mean?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

Alonso = not a definite starter either, and Messi is barely fit.....

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

Lehman
Terry, Ferreira, Puyol
Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cole, Park Ji-Sung
Henry, McBride, Ibrahimovic

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm. That is ridiculous. Are the prices the same on the Premier League one?

caek (caek), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in too

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

xpost, No is the answer. The Premier League one is missing most players at the moment. Only one Brazil player, for example. But the Premier Leauge one requires you to buy a manager. Perhaps the low prices now are because they expect them to go up as everyone buys the same players as teams are eliminated.

caek (caek), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

Buffon
Kucher, Frechaut, Smiljanic, Jop (sub)
Ronaldinho(C), Fabregas, Ballack, Riquelme
Messi, Adriano, Toni

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

I rly should pay more attention.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, Allah Frog! I do have a page, it's at www.shotformeat.com. There's a thread on it in ILC and eeeeverything. Also, who are you on the 'lith!?

Lehmann
Eboue Carragher Gilberto Toure K
Ronaldinho Gerrard Fabregas Luis Garcia
Henry (c) Ibrahimovic Van Nistelrooy

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

Buffon
Cannavaro, Samuel, Puyol, Mellberg
Ronaldinho (C), Ballack, J Cole, Park Ji-Sung
Van Nistelrooy, Ibrahimovic

This will almost certainly change before the start of the tournament.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

i might GAMBLE with NO RONALDINHO

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

and include walcott

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

I just realised I gambled on basically having the recent Aresenal defense.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

GOD IS ANGOLAN:

Van der Sar
Grygera, Terry, Mellberg, Ricardo Carvalho
Cristiano Ronaldo, Rosicky, Gerrard (c), Ronaldinho
Ibrahimovic, Henry

Sub: KENWYNE JONES AND HIS BOOTS OF PUREST GOLD

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

I've also joined the official Premier League one (featuring only Premiership players) even though it is rubbish. I've set a league up. The code is 59059-12445 if you want to join in.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 18 May 2006 08:43 (nineteen years ago)

Me: The Premier League one is missing most players at the moment. Only one Brazil player, for example.

stevem: I've also joined the official Premier League one (featuring only Premiership players)

Me: OIC.

caek (caek), Thursday, 18 May 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

ha ha, it took me a while to work out why there were so many missing too.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Splitter!

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

OK GREAT i signed up for this even though i don't know anything about football. good way to learn. i'm suspecting though that letting the computer auto-select my team is a bad idea, no?

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 18 May 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

"bye bye flacker" is in, only a auto-picked team at the mo (except ronaldinho), shall do some work on it over the weekend hopefully.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 19 May 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Where's Scotland? is in for the Premiership one.

Squad =

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 19 May 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

did this a couple of days ago:

MEMORIES OF FELIX

lehmann

gerrard,ballack,cocu,pardo(s)
shevchenko(c),gilardino,viduka

danny invincible (michael w.), Friday, 19 May 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm thinking of "Oh, Wrinklebaws" as coined on the Scottish Football Predictions thread.

I have no idea where that "oh," came from in my last post. I think I might have meant to type "OK" instead.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 20 May 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Wrinklebaws are go!

Dida
Nesta, Gallas, Heinze, Campbell

my team's awesome

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 25 May 2006 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in, Unterwasser United are ready to rock.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 25 May 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

Bump. About 35 in it now, see first post if you want to join. Only three days to go...

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

FC Orval are in

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I'm in as the inexperienced yet optimistic "Angoalies".

Surfer_Stone_Rosalita (Surfer_Stone_Rosalita), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

Moggi Approved are in.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:58 (nineteen years ago)

I should probably drop Walter Samuel, shouldn't I?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 07:15 (nineteen years ago)

I need to do this later on. The site seems to be down at the mo.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 8 June 2006 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

I did the Metro one today to reflect Ballack not making it for the Costa Rica match, and found three of my defenders didn't actually make their respective squads, so it was worth doing.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 8 June 2006 09:17 (nineteen years ago)

NB Gerrard "only 50-50" for paraguay match...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/england/5058442.stm

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

also, blimey, we are up to 40 players! and i haf no idea who half of them are ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

Totally overhauled my team now. I'm still torn between Lampard or Beckham though. Lampard will take the penalties but Beckham could well set up every single goal.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

I've gone with Beckam for that reason.

caek (caek), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

i used zoo list of ones to watch and treating it as a test of the expertese

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Thursday, 8 June 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

memories of felix now 11 completely different players (and john terry):
robinson
lahm,krstajic,juan,terry
c. ronaldo,mahdavikia,kaka
klose(c),ibrahimovic,pauleta
garcia(s)

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 8 June 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

I apologize in advance for my crap team, looked good at the time but then I figured out a much better lineup but I forgot last night and then my shitty computer wouldn't let me make the transfers today, so, y'know, aw hell.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

can we see the teams yet??

ken c (ken c), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

YES WE CAN

ken c (ken c), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

27 points already from Captain Klose and philipp lahm, the latter of whom i may now ungratefully ditch as that germany defence is shocking.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

hmm, maybe it was a bad idea to swap out Lahm at the last minute and pick Podolski over Klose :(

Porkpie (porkpie), Saturday, 10 June 2006 07:14 (nineteen years ago)

can someone PLEASE tell me why cristiano ronaldo is my captain? what's all that about???

a slow start by byebyeflacker, but only four of my team has had a go yet...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 12 June 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

did you think there are extra points for stepovers?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 12 June 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno why i chose huth, or nuno gomez haha

ken c (ken c), Monday, 12 June 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

ha! i'm top of the ilx league by a massive 13 points! let me savour the moment before the inevitable plummet.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 12 June 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, Tevez appears to have been a bad choice. My front line will be rendered useless if Torres doesn't play as well this week.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 June 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

I picked Tevez too,
I'll keep him for one more game
and see what happens

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

can someone PLEASE tell me why cristiano ronaldo is my captain?

I've got old fannydangle, too. Somehow he scored zero yesterday. I'm not sure if the scoring system for this is the same as the premiership one, but apparently he was substituted after 59 minutes, so probably just one minute short of picking up points for a clean sheet. And he got booked. And he probably lost points for sulking.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Hurrah, the ITV commentators used "good touch for a big lad" about someone (presumably Viduka, who they have been giving pelters to all afternoon for being a fat lazy git).

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

yeah only one point for appearing shorter than 60 (or was it 70?) minutes, and -1 for the yellah. so 0 total.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Celtic's Shunsuke Nakamura scores what can only be described as a "controversial" goal...

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, wrong World Cup thread, unless you've got him in your fantasy team.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

My picking of Pauletta is the only thing that suggests I know > nothing about football. RVN as captain? WHAT WAS I THINKING?

caek (caek), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

My picking of Larsson as captain means only that I completely underestimated Shaka Hislop. Which is understandable, really.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 12 June 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Somehow, I am top of the (surprisingly small) ILX league on the crappy FA Prem competition.

(The only reason I am pointing this out, obviously, is because I will end up bottom and, like PLUCKY SAUDI ARABIA just want my day in the sun)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 12 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

god bless rosicky

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

When is Beckham going to get his points for his assist? Bah.

caek (caek), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

um, are they giving assist points for OGs?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

maybe minus assist points cos they're OG's?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 08:12 (nineteen years ago)

Can anyone clarify the transfer situation? If I put in a load of French players now will they be effective this evening or from the beginning of the next transfer period (ie tomorrow)?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

transfers will only count for the next phase of group matches, otherwise you'd be getting two games for the price of one, see?

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

That's what you can do in the Torygraph one. Which explains why others that have been rotating their squads are miles ahead of my France-Spain-Brazil-orientated team.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

Admittedly they will have no transfers left by the QFs and I WILL WIN!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

with this one you get extra transfers every round though so i'd check the rules on yer other one if i ws you.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck's sake. I can't believe how bad my team is. I'm only two places off bottom, and unless Puyol scores a hat-trick while simultaneously keeping a clean sheet for Spain tomorrow I could well finish last for first stage. Not one of my players has scored a goal, or got an assist (including captain Henry and blow the budget Ronaldinho), Cristiano Ronaldo scored nothing despite playing, two of my players didn't even play, and Terry was the only player to get points for anything other than turning up.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

i didn't check the rules before the start, which was a mistake. i based my initial purchase on the team's likelihood of reaching the finals as i didn't know what kind of substitutions can be made. oops! must try and rectify next round

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Kaka and Lucio's performance today did me a world of good. It's all down to Spain tomorrow though.

Fucking Tevez.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh shit, I've got Kaka in the other game, haven't I? Fucking Ronaldinho.

On the other hand, an impressive showing for my defence. IR playing Italian fantasy league!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

yes i r also playing italian fantasy football ;) unfortunately 2wo third3 of my frontline is CROCKED already, so will have to replace koller and borgetti before i get to think about tactical changes...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

right then, borgetti, koller, cristiano fannydangler OUT. klose, pauleta and the ridiculously cheap rosicky (8.5!!!) IN.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

Stevem has almost caught me in the CRAP FA ONE but I have two players in the Spain/Ukraine match und he haf only one.

I will keep the faith in my Metro squad, which probably means I will finish near-bottom when they underperform AGANE.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

dammit why didn't i leave Alonso in my team

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

The BBC had it scored by Luis Garcia first, which would have suited you more. Fabregas on the bench for me, bah. And Shevchenko (my other interest in the match) wrongly ruled offside, double bah.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

until a few minutes ago I was so glad I dumped Ljungberg after the first round, now just kind of feel stupid

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

I had Henry (captain) and Park Ji Sung in that last game, so hopefully I've dragged myself up into midtable obscurity.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Sunday, 18 June 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

i am having a COMPLETE shocker. i think my only hope of midtable obscurity is that several people won't have subbed out their suspended players by tomorrow lunchtime...

WBS is pulling away already and just outside the top 2000 overall.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 19 June 2006 07:51 (nineteen years ago)

dear BASTARD ECUADOR MANAGER

i hope you lose because you left delgado out and then fifa kick you out for playing an understrength squad :(

i'm not playing this game any more.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

ah Miroslav Klose, Captain my Captain.

PS Mr Swygart - Gerrard as captain?????

Porkpie (porkpie), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

Good news: I still have Klose.
Bad news: I sold Joe Cole.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

stupid rooney (although he was just a straight transfer for out-of-it drogba) (which was a dumb move anyway) (argh)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

PS Mr Swygart - Gerrard as captain?????

haha swygart = genius

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

i am making some annoying errors here. thought germany's defence ws rub so got rid of lahm who'd only gone and scored for me in the first game! result, germany keep 2 clean sheets on the bounce and lahm still looks like the most dangerous attacking fullback in the tournament. can't decide whether to bring in barnetta or krancjar, it's a toss-up and the lightweight croat wins. barnetta scores one and sets up another in his next game. sign up torres on monday afternoon and make him captain only to watch him score twice in the final game of the previous round which doesn't count for me. the next day, still in my team but now stripped of the captaincy, klose notches 2.
i have realised i am getting too worked up about this fantasy league thing and that it's in danger of compromising my enjoyment of the tournament itself, therefore i no longer care.
*sulks*

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 20 June 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

C. Ronaldo rested, Saviola rested, Rodriguez rested... These managers don't seem to care about the havoc they are wreaking to my team.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

Ditto for Crespo and Heinze. Bah.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

If I'd had a bit more foresight I'd have put in a load of Ivory Coast players, looking to go out on a high. Or, better still, France and Italy players with something to actually play for.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

I sold Joe Cole to buy a non-playing Argentinian. I must remember not to make the same mistake in four years' time.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Wednesday, 21 June 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

I have to say... I am incredibly fucking confused.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 22 June 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

what are you confused about dear?

i'm confused about what happens next, ie we get unlimited transfers now, but then do we get no more til the end or what?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

How I'm thirteen points clear with Henry up front...

Don't worry, though, I had two Czech players, so things will probably even up nicely by the end of the round.

I think it's five transfers per round. I hope it is cos I've just used all mine.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

hein? it totally sa "you haf unlimited transfers" at the top of the transfer page...

buffon has just almost doubled my points tally for this round...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

Fantastic round which sees me leap from 42 to 10. I knew Henry would come good.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 23 June 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

god I'm so rubbish at this

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 23 June 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

Rampant first-team resting has kind of deflated my run a bit, but my squad is nicely set up for the knockout stages, I think.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 June 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

my team ws ruined by bad transfers and the ridiculous phenomena of "resting" all the good players from the last third of 1st round games. i don't get it, ask jairzinho about "resting". modern football *grumbles*.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 24 June 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Hi I'm rubbish! I probably should have worked out how this whole thing, uh, worked first.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Saturday, 24 June 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

Charlton Lido replaces WBS at the top, with a porkpie in hot pursuit. After a truly shit starts (both bottom 6) me & Billy Dodds have climbed to 12th and 13th.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Sunday, 25 June 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

For some reason I thought there was a maximum of two players from any one team, so didn't sign Maxi yesterday. D'oh.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 25 June 2006 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

I think there was a two-player limit in the group stages, which they'll have had to abandon as the pool of players you can pick from gets smaller.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 25 June 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

um, i'm pretty sure it's still a maximum of 4 now.

in other news, my team: still shit.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 25 June 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

Is it unlimited transfers all the way to the end now?

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 25 June 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

http://fantasyfootball.metro.co.uk/M/help.mc?category=transfers

yup :)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Sunday, 25 June 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'm finally working out how to play this thing, albeit a bit late.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Sunday, 25 June 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

Blimey, I never saw this thread; I'm in a mini-league at work. I've got 142pts and am 5th of 10... :(. Where would that put me in the ILX league? Relegation places? I was in the top 900 nationwide immediately after Cahill's double vs Japan but I'm 100,000th or something now.

Forgot that Maxi Gonzalez was merely my sub last night. Didn't realise that I could have >2 players from one team now...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 25 June 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

I hope Beckham gets bonus points for vomiting. He's my captain.

caek (caek), Sunday, 25 June 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

I've gone top of my work's league in the Metro thing. Got a dutch striker against a Portuguese defender tonight though :/

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 25 June 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I was right about the Portugal victory but didn't expect such a dirty game. Deco *and* Valente. Argh!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 25 June 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, one point in front again, due to double points for Captain Stevie G giving him a massive... 6 points for the round. There's some kind of genius at play there that neither I nor anyone else can really comprehend, I reckon. Still, clean sheets for all my defenders thus far, with Grosso still to play. If that means I've hexed Italy into losing tomorrow, then I reckon I can settle for that.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 25 June 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Kind of surprised to still be in the top five. Deco amazingly not in minus points, plus Beckham and Nuno Baloono did okay for me. Now for a grindingly cynical 1-0 victory for the Azzuri please.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 26 June 2006 07:32 (nineteen years ago)

Very surprised to be sixth.
Hopefully my Spanish and Italian players will do well.

Greig (treefell), Monday, 26 June 2006 08:44 (nineteen years ago)

can't believe i picked a portuganuese player who didn't get booked! have squeezed into the top 20, but with nesta and crouch not playing i think i'll be slipping down the table again by the end of the day...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 26 June 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

Brrrraaaaassssiiiiwwww! Clean sheets for John & Robert Charles plus a goal for Captain Ronald.

Teh HoBBercraft (the pirate king), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

yeah but as long as torres plays i'm past you innit ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

SOD IT, i've got luis garcia not torres, SOD IT SOD IT SOD IT :(

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

I'm up to 9th now. Charlton Lido back ahead of WBS at the top. Luis Garcia powers Mr Carsmile to 29th.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Tuesday, 27 June 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

All right, I've got 177pts - where would I be in the ILX league? (Good this round: Buffon, Maxi Rodriguez, Maniche; bad: Senderos, Nesta, Robinho).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 06:14 (nineteen years ago)

You would be 19th of 49, Michael.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 06:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Angoalies: from bottom five to 22nd and now in graceless freefall yet again. However, their manager has finally figured out how the transfers work, so perhaps all is not yet lost.

surfer_stone_rosa (surfer_stone_rosa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

BLIMEY, that was close. just managed to get my changes in on time, phew.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 30 June 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

i was too late :(

Save me Ayala! Oh, but I have German players too. Doh.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Friday, 30 June 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm up to joint 7th now. After a poor start I seem to be hitting my stride - I feel this could be the end of 33 years of hurt. Meanwhile Charlton Lido and WBS go level on points at the top.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Friday, 30 June 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

I notice SteveM's team is stuffed full of Portugualians. Surely this is treachery?

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Friday, 30 June 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

OK, OK - I like this vicarious thrill of being in the ILX league when I'm actually not. I've now got 209pts thanks to my glorious azzuri defence - where am I placed?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 30 June 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

ha ha even in this provincial little tournament the pirate king is obsessed with my team/beating me. he is like one of those people who has a telescope so he can look at what other families are doing.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 30 June 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, scratch that - I've joined. I'm 12th= of 50. I'm top of my work league!

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 30 June 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

Those three Spanish players are gonna do me proud.

Suedey (John Cei Douglas), Friday, 30 June 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

After sticking with him through thick and thin for the first four games, I dropped Toni last night. For Totti. Clever me.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 June 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

he is like one of those people who has a telescope so he can look at what other families are doing.

who says I haven't?

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Saturday, 1 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Through my telescope I spy that there's just one point in it at the top, as always between WBS and CL. Who is Joetex Frimpong?

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Saturday, 1 July 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

at the last minute i swapped my captaincy from zambrotta to rooney. it's my fault and i'm sorry.

michael wells (michael w.), Saturday, 1 July 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

On Monday the team selected for bye bye flacker was:

Buffon, Ferdinand(Eliminated), Grosso, Miguel, Ronaldinho(Eliminated), Rodriguez(Eliminated), Riquelme(Eliminated), Beckham(Eliminated), Saviola(Eliminated), Klose(Captain), Neuville

With the following substitute:

Yatsenko(Eliminated)

do i get some sort of special prize?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

WBS opens up an 11-point lead.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

Five minutes before the end of that game, my captain Lehmann was on 14 points. Then it all went a bit wrong.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

i'm second in the 0-transfer handicap sub-league.. there's only 5 teams in it though. and orly fc have an 18-point advantage. tomorrow is going to be ricardo vs christiano ronaldo and henry vs zidane.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

I'm leading points scorer for this round so far, 42 ahead of WBS's 41. If only I'd made Grosso captain... anyway, I'm confident Moggi Approved can get a top 15 finish, which mere days ago looked impossible.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

I picked Grosso, but he's my sub. Damn.

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe you should hope for one of your other selections in Fra-Por to be dropped/injured so Grosso pops back in and you get yr 16pts (is it 16?). I profited from Maxi Rodriguez in r2 in this way (cheers, Senderos).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

I got 6 points from Grosso last round 'cos someone didn't play. Can't expect it to happen again.

Greig (treefell), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Now Charlton Lido storms 10 ahead of WBS. I'm back up to 7th but there's nearly 20 people below within about 25 points.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Only a point off third now - this one could go right down to the wire. I have a feeling I know what will prove decisive in all this, though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

well, i had a 13 point lead at one stage, then dropped to 20th due to poor substitutions/player resting band now, thanks to a storming qf/sf run, am back up to 3rd. i think i'd settle for that.

michael wells (michael w.), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

who is this peter farmer who has just registered himself into a 25 point lead in our league?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 7 July 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

so do teams play their first string players during the game for third place?

Sym Sym (sym), Friday, 7 July 2006 04:50 (nineteen years ago)

peter farmer? c0ck farmer MORE LIKE!

25 points from 4 players, blimey i wish i'd been scoring that well all tournament...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

Surely Peter Cockfarmer, like Chelsea, doesn't count?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it's all about the third-place playoff - hopefully a goalfest between two reserve teams.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

hehe!

Please confirm that you want to make the following transfers:

Buffon replaced by Lehmann
Ferdinand replaced by Chimbonda
Yatsenko replaced by Cannavaro
Ronaldinho replaced by Odonkor
Rodriguez replaced by Frings
Riquelme replaced by Pirlo
Beckham replaced by Zidane
Saviola replaced by Gilardino
Neuville replaced by Henry

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

actually that's mental, what do i want chimbonda for???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

Is the Lehmann selection based on the idea that Kahn's ego won't allow him to play in a consolation match?

I'm waiting until 35min before Saturday's match...

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

more that lehman's ego won't let kahn back in the shirt if he can in any way stop it...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:49 (nineteen years ago)

the way that he couldn't stop those two italian goals lolololololol

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 July 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm, colin meeder over there on the other thread sa ballack out, kahn in...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 7 July 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, who is this Peter Farmer? He's 68th in the whole country! It's just not on, is it? I mean, I can't talk - having joined in the knockout stage - but I knew I'd be just making up the numbers, jostling Dastoor in the upper-mids.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Saturday, 8 July 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

i think cock farmer must be going round all the leagues implanting himself at the top as an ego boost. we must ignore him as it's gone down to the wire with wbs and gareth.

michael wells (michael w.), Sunday, 9 July 2006 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

Guess which mug finally dropped Schweinsteiger for Schneider in time for this round?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 9 July 2006 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

me too ,mate, me too

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 9 July 2006 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

how does cock farmer join our league though without the passcode?

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 9 July 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

He's only in four leagues. I suspect he is a lurker. I for one welcome our new cockfarming overlord.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 9 July 2006 11:05 (nineteen years ago)

Only 12 points for Bastian Pigshagger. That second goal wasn't even credited as an assist for him, and he got booked as well.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 July 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, I swapped in - and then swapped out - Rodsteiger. My late choice Huth was injured in the bloody warm-up, meaning sub Costinha came in - and he got booked and didn't even play the full 90. Rubbish.

I'm 3rd in my work league and 25th (24th excluding Farmerbramovich) in the ILX league. I've stuck with the heavily Azzuri defence throughout the knockout stage but I don't really want any nils tonight.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Sunday, 9 July 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

RE: cockfarmer - If he's a lurker who's motivated enough to get the code to join the league so that he can win it you'd think he'd be motivated enough to post a comment on this thread. I suspect it's someone's phantom second team, but I might just be projecting my own Machiavellian tendencies. Anyway, it's not me this time.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Sunday, 9 July 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

do you think cockfarmer would've joined up at this late stage if he'd have beem 30th or something?

michael wells (michael w.), Sunday, 9 July 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Do you think cockfarmer will ever de-lurk now that we're all calling him cockfarmer?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 July 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

where were you when you were crap?

-- (688), Sunday, 9 July 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Discounting cockfarmer, the winner is Charlton Lido, 12 points ahead of WBS. I got a respectable 8th (which is 7th when cockfarming is taken out of the equation).

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Sunday, 9 July 2006 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

I was shit, but came 19th OVERALL in the Guardian league. 19th! I was four points (one assist!) off winning £1,000. If only I'd gone for Pirlo instead of Maniche. I know exactly how Trezeguet feels. Exactly!

Pete W (peterw), Sunday, 9 July 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

To answer a question upthread, I'm Joetex Frimpong (another cockfarming lurker).

Jeremy (Jeremy), Sunday, 9 July 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

so, the final standings are:

[Long list of real names removed - sorry! You'll have to log into view the table but Gareth won.]

i know i shouldn't be so pissed off by the cf but, you know, you can't just rock up after the semis and go "look at me, top of the league!" and then not post a thing on this thread to explain/reveal yourself. (and also i want to finish in the top 3).

michael wells (michael w.), Sunday, 9 July 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone else think some googleproofing might be in order?

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 July 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I'm requesting anyway...

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 9 July 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone else think some googleproofing might be in order?

I've just worked out that this refers to the 'long list of names deleted'. Initially I thought you wanted things changed to c0ckf4rm3r, which seemed a bit odd as I doubt this thread is going to attract too many random googlers looking for farmers of cock.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, you'd be surprised.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, there was a long list of people's real names since someone "cleverly" cut and pasted the league table.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 10 July 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

hey, now it looks like it was me when all i did was "cleverly" cut and paste a list (removing one name) that was already on the thread!

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 10 July 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)
