emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

who wants to play? and when? i am suggesting next monday or tuesday - 17th or 18th.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

What is it with Hackney lately?

I'm boycotting Hackney as a horrible place that's hell to get home from and not going there again in the future.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

I might have my LED Boules by then.

I am in of course.

Ed (dali), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

hackney rocks, kate. that is a) all there is to it and b) how come loads of us all live there. what did you have to do to get home? surely 242 or 149-liv st then 133 all the way home? it wasn't even that late!

ooh, BOULES! yes plizz! has been a few years since i played that. less running involved than the frisbee, too, for those not inclined to run.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

weather forecast for next monday says SUNNY and tuesday says MOSTLY SUNNY. shall we go for monday? good way to start the week too.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand the appeal of London Fields - not enough bloody grass for my liking. Also, what's that weird gentrified street off to the side, where it's like someone's dropped a bit of Brighton into the middle of Hackney?

(Yes, I know this isn't the thread for hating on it. I'd happily do a similar thing in a nice big centralish park but it's too far for a weeknight for me).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 10 July 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

will one have to work in (h)ackney to attend this?

london fields is nice. and broadway market is teh lovely

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't hate on London Fields at all. It's quite nice, and features pretty boys.

But I do agree that it's too far for a weeknight.

If I Were Dreaming, There'd Be Rum (kate), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

the whole point is that it isn't central! (but anyway london fields station is 7 mins from liverpool street, and trains go about every 15 minutes.)

not enough grass? like the grass is a bit crap and hasn't grown very well, or that too much of the park is taken up with paths and that attempt at a skatepark and those farmer and sheep statues and mosaic benches? i think the gentrified street is andrew's street.

nah you don't have to work, or live, in (h)ackney, you just have to be of the mindset to head over there of an evening for some funs and some drinks.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's difficult to organise hackney afterworker in hyde park.

haha xpost!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 10 July 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

OK, who's bringing what?

Shall I bring dead animal and coolbox with Ice?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

i will bring 2 frisbees. i also have a kite and a badminton set if anyone's interested in those. also a corkscrew. and something to drink. and fruits.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

I will try and bring other layabouts.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

can this be not on a monday, btw? tuesday would rule.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

and badminton rules, too

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

This is tipping into me realising that you're talking about OUTDOORS.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

i thought london fields would be a dead giveaway. or the bit about bikes, barbecue

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

um yeah... a frisbee game is a bit bigger than a cartwheel. and the consequences of attempting a genuine indoor barbecue would probably be fairly dire.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

this would be 2 minutes from my house. it would be rude not to come! i'm in.

matt stop hating on lovely lovely bourgeois broadway market. great places on broadway market: santa maria del buen ayre, an awesome argentinian restaurant which gives great aubergine; gossip, a café run by a wonderful polish lady called magdalena; l'eau a la bouche, a patisserie selling all manner of lovely treats.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

and the cheese. OH, the cheese...

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

YES YES YES!!

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

ahem

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

oh YES the cheese. my flatmate's boyfriend brought some back last weekend and i spent a very pleasant half hour nibbling on it.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

nb: there are also TENNIS COURTS in ldn fields, which are FREE!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hand, ypu and the lady up for a lounge around your prospective manor?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

whee! we can play badminton on them!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

aw crap this does somewhat knock out my plans for a SARF booze-up because after this no one will be willing to drag down here i bet.

Ed - eggzackly! we've already tottered around it a little and i was offput by the brightonish street DC mentions - men wearing stylish cargo pants and carrying beautiful babies; olives for the price of caviar - but the lovely emma B and i quickly realized it's very self-contained and sealed-off - so all that stuff gets magnetically sopped up into it and the rest of the neighborhood is spared yay! (plus very good olives if you just HAPPEN to find yourself there MMM GGGAHH)

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

had your Swimmer fix recently Tracer?

and don't forget to swing by Clapton at some point.

Tracer Hand Fan Club Member #26503 (blueski), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

No no no no no, I would DEFINITELY be up for a SARF LONDON boozeup. It is the way forward.

How about in Brockwell Park?

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

we could do SARF on tuesday. there is of course SARF on sunday too.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

(brockwell park has a LIDO guys, you are on to a good thing!)

xpost noooo let this one be the hackney one! we can do a sarf one another time! or there could be two simultaneously... (pls worldfap to rear its ugly hydrahead again, that is always fun)

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yes Monday is London fields as I have invited some camping mentalists.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Brockwell Park also home to Lambeth County Show this weekend. there will be chip pan fire demonstrations and owls. http://www.ubiqueleisure.co.uk/lambeth.php

koogy wonderland (koogs), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

argh i don't think i can make it - i get back from porto late monday eve. :( DURN

yes koogs they are already cluttering everything up there - but will be gone by next week i believe?

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

and good free bike shit.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Chip Pan Fire demonstrations. And owls.

Will wonders never cease? Maybe this is what I shall do on Saturday while trying to recover and prepare for Shimuras mentalism this weekend.

OH YES, THEY HAVE KNIGHTS!!! RAH!!!

Margarine Machine (kate), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

I strongly suspect the streets Tracer and Lex are talking about are one and the same.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh they are - I bet it's better during the week.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I pointed out where my best friend in E8 lives the other night (close to Lex, by the delayed lido) and 'that street' has been evolving spendy-oliveward for the past decade. The stuccoed Brightony terrace street is off to the side and not the same place at all. If you like that sort of stuff the Victoria Park/Well Street Common area is for you.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

We could make it tuesday?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

yeah can it be tuesday? i'm glad i'm not the only one who can't do monday

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

and lex are you bringing a tennis racquet? i'll bring mine if you bring yours

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

i can bring a racket - i only live 2 mins away anyway. shall i book the courts for tuesday pm then? what time?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to Brockwell Park for the county fair on Saturday afternoon. Any SARF LONDON takers?

Margarine Machine (kate), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

surely that's a different thread non?

yeah lex! i'll come and play regardless!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

after 6pm.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 08:50 (nineteen years ago)

So, Tuesday then?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

tuesday.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

We can watch the lex and ken bounce their balls.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

while you guys shuttle cocks

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

Kate, there's a futon-sofa-bed thing in our living room, at your disposal if that would make a difference.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

i am in the middle of work leaving do season at the moment, viz TWO tonight and then further ones next tues, wed AND thurs, but next tuesday's might not go on too long...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, Andrew - I'll have to see how tired I feel after this coming weekend, as I know it's going to be an exhausting one.

Thom Yorke Is My Spirit Guide (kate), Wednesday, 12 July 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

weather forecast for this is lush - sunny all day, high 32, still 26 at 9pm :)

my flatmate went to london fields the other day and they don't allow barbecues, so we may need to rethink that bit. i have seen people in london fields with a full-on bonfire but that was nov 5th.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:35 (nineteen years ago)

earliest i'll arrive is 8pm so will book courts for 9ish maybe.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

we shall eat houmous and cold cuts

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

and cherries

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:38 (nineteen years ago)

if only the market will be open. they had yummy smelling fried mushrooms and assorted tasty nuts stalls the last time i was there.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:59 (nineteen years ago)

also: alex should start to FEAR
http://lolrider.com/images/tennisback.gif

i can serve BACKWARDS!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

I think the cooler full of ice will be important. We might beat epsom in 1911.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

andrew's flatmates say everyone uses barbecues anyway and no one cares. what am i getting? fruit?

something red in a pot called ANATOLIAN BREAKFAST which i am getting addicted to.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

i still haven't booked the court and am likely not to have time - my flatmate (who may well be joining us) says you don't need to book after 9 anyway. should anyone wish to make sure the no is 020 7254 4235

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

though i have a FUCKING FUCKLOAD of FUCKING WORK to do today and have 0 idea when i will get to leave the office

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

what time are people coming please? i can be there pretty much whenever, but playing frisbee alone is rub.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

Should be out of here by 4.30, home & ready by 6. Should be.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

lex do you have a spare racquet? and what time do you intend to arrive? i think i might be heading to shoreditch after work first, and then come along to london fields..

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

I can get there by 7ish if others will be there. What's happening with tennis court bookings? I'm happy to chip in and make some phone calls if need be.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

i should be there around 6.30, then. i'm not playing tennis though i might bring the badminton stuff.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Gosh emsk, I'd be more than happy to play badminton, too [although the transition from badminton to tennis can be a shock to the system]. Where's the meet?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

ken - earliest i'll be there is 8pm. v possibly later. unless i reach snapping point and leave the office at 5, fuck the work.

no time to book - would be appreciated if someone else could!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

heh don't expect too much, the last time i played badminton was about 5 years ago! but i got a freebie badminton set. i wonder if i know where it is (just moved house, everything still everywhere).

where, good q, i was thinking that. we should prob be near the pub on the park so we can use their loos. maybe somewhere between the pub and the tennis courts? do you know any of us, by face? have i met you? sorry if i have and have forgotten, i am rubbeesh with names/faces.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oh that's ok.

I know Ken c but I don't think I know the rest (apologies if I've met any of you before).

I'll come and find you at about 6.45ish. Does anyone have I number I could call?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I've got a meeting locally at 5.30 which I hope goes at least an hour. Have a few friends nearby to alert too.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

[self xpost]...a number I could call to make a court booking, that is

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

lex put the number upthread somewhere. i found the badminton set, it even has sticks to put in the ground to put the net up!

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

Found the number. How many courts shall we book? What time to what time?

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Please ignore my previous post. I've given them a call and all the courts are booked up. So I guess we'll have to make our own entertainment.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be there around 6, maybe a little after. Between the cricket pitch and the pub seems good to me. I have got some dips, crisps, ham, mackrel pate, bread and a slab of stubby lager. I'll have a cooler full of ice for coolness purposes too.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Oh good - H picked today to go to MCR of all days. Does anyone know before 4.15 if London Fields station is Oyster-friendly?

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, you aren't coming back from Oxford with us in the van, are you?

(Obviously I will not be making the afterworker as I am way too stressed and cranky - don't know how to get money to you by tomorrow, though, argh. Unless I can meet you at lunchtime tomorrow.)

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

suzy if you have a travelcard on your oyster it'll work fine, if you use pre-pay it won't, there might not be gates there i'm not sure, but if you get on the train at liverpool st you'll have to go through gates there anyway. um, i don't know if that even answers the question.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

I think I might just buy a paper travelcard just in case.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

Hi guys!

Won't be there til 8pm but will see yous then if you're still there!

Guess it'll be badminton rather than tennis then? (unless lex has a spare racquet and people don't show up for their bookings)

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

xpost if you're buying paper ticket may as well just buy a single?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

I will have own bastion of middle classness; a volvo estate and can take someone back with me so long as they don't mind a stop in bucks, yah!

I am relaxed about the money. Next week is fine.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

That's what I thought, but Emsk thought you were coming back with us. If you have an extra place, even better.

Cool, thanks - if you can wait until Tuesday you can even have it in cash, as I will have been paid by then.

Kaet (kate), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

does this mean i can offer the russian a ride back as well as there?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

best frisbee evah!

also: i totally picked up andrew farrell last night.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

The Squidgie aerobie is fantastic.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

I loved the fact you could catch it and it would bend and squish before regaining its shape.

Thanks for your hospitality yesterday, people. It was lots of fun.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:45 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for introducing me to tamrinds and that was mighty fine pineapple as well.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:49 (nineteen years ago)

The tamarinds seemed happy to meet you, too.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:52 (nineteen years ago)

There was generalised support from those that couldn't make it for another one sometime next week or the week after. We could possibly make it a weekly thing on Tuesdays, just to make it easier to plan for / book courts for?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

That was so much fun. Immediately previous to this I had drink with former ESM editor who nearly came along but had boyfriend and work he'd been procrasturbating on to return to.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

lovely, lovely evening. wish i'd not had to skip off for an hour and a half in the middle! let's do again. next tues is good for me.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:26 (nineteen years ago)

by the way.. anyone know via what method/route i got home?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

Why don't you move it to a different park each week, so that it could be more convenient for different people every time? (Streatham Common has tennis courts. Just saying, like.)

Kaet (kate), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

i hear highbury fields is pretty.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

(and convenient for ME :D)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

The tamarinds seemed happy to meet you, too.

THERE WERE MONKEYS!?!?!???!!

http://www.mentmorehouse.com/images/golden-lion-tamarin-monkey.jpg

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

haha ken, you got the 253. or perhaps another one. you went up to mare street towards hackney central.

kate start a sarf london one! this is the thread for the hackney one.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

I will come to SARF London for picknickage.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 08:59 (nineteen years ago)

i will go to a whole nother COUNTY for picknickage.

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:05 (nineteen years ago)

I will raise your whole nother county and go to another country for picknickage.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

I will take you to the moon and back if you'll be my picnic buddy.

(p.s. aha that makes sense now! it must have been a 254 i reckon because it terminates right outside my house and that was the only reason i got home rather than euston or trafalgar square or wherever the 253 finishes at night!)

(And also that pool of red sludgy thing at the bus stop this morning must have been what i kicked into accidentally last night that resulted in residues being on my shoe this morning)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:15 (nineteen years ago)

Just forget it then.

:-(

Kaet (kate), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

forget what? kate!

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

I should have also said, it was nice to meet Daniel, and Lex's flatmate Sam & her boyfriend Florian, and Ed's friends.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:58 (nineteen years ago)

me too, Andrew.

Daniel Giraffe (Daniel Giraffe), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

There was Talk, at or after the last one, about doing it again, in a week, which would be tomorrow.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

i can't do tomorrow as it is THE FRENCH DISCONNECTION at luminaire which everyone should come to anyway. weds/thurs are possible but i dunno.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 24 July 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

can we do one of these next week please? i have bought a special dress.

emsk ( emsk), Saturday, 29 July 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

OK, I am generally open.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 29 July 2006 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

yes let's! i have a new shirt.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Saturday, 29 July 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

Woo, any particular day. Not thursday I presume.

tuesday is good no?

Ed (dali), Saturday, 29 July 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

tuesday is good for me.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Tuesdays are good.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:36 (nineteen years ago)

so this is tomorrow right???

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

get in.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:47 (nineteen years ago)

Uuuuhhh... Emsk, somewhere else you said you were free on Tuesday night.

Silver Machine Manor (kate), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

yes, but now someone else has said they can't make tuesday.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 31 July 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Are we doing this thing?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 07:27 (nineteen years ago)

i can't make it today afterall actually :(

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

it's a bit cold, and i probably can't make it anyway.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 07:35 (nineteen years ago)

I'm on for it, and will attempt to muster other troops.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:03 (nineteen years ago)

huzzah

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

it is fucking FREEZING out there but um i can still make it.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

we must be more energetic, play more frisbee

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

do i have to bring the anatolian breakfast again? will you bring the glowinthedark frisbee again? are forces mobilising? same place as last time?

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

I am mobilising, probably won't bring the cooler though. I shall bring snacks beer etc. Maybe wine as I have an awful lot.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Could you pick me up a couple of extra pots of AB I want to put some in my FAFP.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

argh, i just have the one in my fridge and i am in brixton - was gonna go home first and pick that up but i dunno what time the tfc shuts. i'll drop by on my way home, try and get out of here early (not doing v well so far, distracted by, oh, stuff).

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

What on earth is Anatolian Breakfast?

Her Royal Kateness (kate), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

Only one way to find out...

If there's just three of us, and the weather continues to tend towards the miserable, we could just retreat to my gaff.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

kate, oh, kate. you will LOVE this shit. it is red and it is hot = it is REDD-HOTT. it says spread it on toast but you get better results if you scrape some up with your pitta num num. it has all kinds of crazy shit in it.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

As far as I can tell it's made of spices and more spices, I meant to try and put the wind up Emsk by saying "no, there's definitely meat in there" because there totally could be and you'd never know (except then how would I know, um).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

i read the ingredients before i bought it? i nearly got the one which looks identical but has fishes in it by accident.

although the first ingredient is "homemade something or other" which could be responsible for all manner of sin urgh.

emsk ( emsk), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Made at 'home' by fishes!

One thing is clear, I'm not going to be fucking with any Anatolians from now on.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still trying to decide whether I'll come or not. Like I said yesterday, I don't have to be in to work tomorrow until late. But I suppose that depends on how shite the rest of the afternoon is.

Also, I did not bring a coat and it may get chilly. Can I borrow a hoodie or something from someone?

Her Royal Kateness (kate), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Sure.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

We were very British and stoic till about 10pm. It was fun is blowy nonetheless.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

Speak for yourself, sassenach. I was quite comfortable, unlike this morning when I have a cold.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

Apologies for never actually turning up. I got cranky and went home and watched To The Ends Of The Earth instead.

Her Royal Kateness (kate), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

haha no it was good cos as i was teh GURL i got to wear the hoodie that was meant for you

emsk ( emsk), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

was frisbee played??

wish i could have come!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

For the next one I have managed to source a Caribbean cafe owned by family of friend who says I will be sent there with a 'please look after this bear' note so we can have masses of jerk and patties at a discount. Who is in?

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

too windy for frisbee.

I'd be in but not till after camp. Anything I-Tal for the veggies?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Frisbee was played. We all watched.

Mmm, Caribbean.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

Of course there will be i-tal, this is Jamaican woman I'm working with whose family has been living on Emsk's old road since forever. I have a feeling we will all become repeat customers.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, is this up near Dalston Cross? I've been meaning to go in there for ages.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

i'd totally be up for caribbean café, num num.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

She's supposed to be setting me up with a picnic selection, it will rock - and I am not sure if it is Dalston Cross or not - may be somewhere more obscure.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

oh my god this sounds heavenly. i can jerk all night long baby.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, when is this jerk-fest likely to take place (I've scanned the latter part of the thread and can't find a date)? I love love love ackee and saltfish.

emsk, did you enjoy French Disconnection? BB and his band rocked, n'est-ce pas?

Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

i did enjoy french disconnection, a lot, but tbh more the konki duet than bb - i thought he was impressive enough with what he was doing, but i found myself wandering several times. the konki duet totally blew me away though, creepy spectral icy toybox weirdpop.

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, konki seemed special, but I only caught half the set and it took some time to tune in. I bought the CD to try and make up for my lateness, and it is charming and mysterious.

I enjoyed Burgalat so much partly because it was such a party in relation to what I expected from his records.

Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

hurrah, well done for buying the cd! i have been playing it to death for about a year and am still not sick of it. i couldn't stop watching the violin player playing her violin. i stopped hearing the songs as songs and started hearing them just as a succession individual pieces of sound, so precise, so sweet, so chilly. oh GOD i want to see them again :(

emsk ( emsk), Thursday, 3 August 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

The one I couldn't stop watching was la japonaise, not always for the most wholesome of reasons, I admit, but mainly because of the gently mannered Japanese element that she brought to a sound that otherwise came across as very French. I also love the way the japanese pronounce the French language.

Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Thursday, 3 August 2006 11:00 (nineteen years ago)

Roll call!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

haha Ed! great shot!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

London Fields is a bit short on grass isn't it? I'd be more inclined to turn up if you were to do it in Victoria Park (which is not-entirely-coincidentally easier for me to get to and from).

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:36 (nineteen years ago)

We started on a lovely grassy bit, but threats of violence as our barrage of fluorescent softballs rained down on the punters drove us to the bare bit in the corner.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dear I appeared to have made an almost identical post last summer as well. Plus ca change.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

I am not opposed to victoria park.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

how is Victoria Park easier for you Matt?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

as Ed says we started in the verdant oval just behind pub on the park, otherwise known as "the arsey bit" to me, from now on, and could not sustain enough open space for safe play. so we moved to a dustier corner which turned out to be almost exactly in the shape of a baseball diamond! i think this may have been the historical origin of baseball's soft dirt infield - it's the one place in the park that people don't want to sit.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

i actually enjoyed where we ended up! the dirt was dry and not really an issue at all. a small price to pay for being able to swing with impunity.

^@^, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:56 (nineteen years ago)

IT IS TIME! we can def do this in victoria park, and any other park, as long as it is one in hackney.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:07 (nineteen years ago)

what about clissolds park?

ken c, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

thats not hackney!

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

it is!

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

here we go...

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

clissolds park is stoke newington
london fields is dalston

lex pretend, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Victoria Park = closer to Tube and less far north. I know there are direct trains from Liverpool Street but having to get two trains and a Tube to get home from an evening in the park seems like unnecessary fannydangle.

Also Victoria Park is about a million times nicer than London Fields, if possibly slightly more full of murderers.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

clissold park is stoke newington of course.

oh, you mean hackney borough? oh in that case, fine...but you realise you have to give up victoria park in that case? you cant have it both ways

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

If we're getting down to neighbourhood level. London fields is not dalston. Dalston stops at the Queensbridge rd.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Lex you are the only person I've ever heard refer to London Fields as Dalston. It's Hackney proper*, so was that flat where we had the cocktail party.

I'd thought that bits of Victoria Park were in Hackney but it appears I'm wrong.

*Or maybe Clapham, arf.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

nah the best thing about sam's and my flat was that when we wanted to be trendy we could say we lived in dalston, when we wanted to be edgy we could say hackney, and when we wanted to be bourgeois london fields.

does that makes us sound like wankers? tee hee.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

I think of Victoria Park as being part of the TOWN of Hackney. What do people who actually live around the park say?

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:33 (nineteen years ago)

im not sure about that ed. its only because kingsland has fallen out of use, that dalston has appeared to shift westwards. if shacklewell and kingsland are taken into consideration, and dalston doesnt extend beyond queensbridge rd, there isnt really anywhere for it to go! i think dalston can stretch as far as the western boundary of london fields

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

i think of victoria park as hackney (even though is out of the borough), but really its a boundary more than anything else isnt it

600, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

the South Homerton/Old Ford Afterworker just doesn't have the same ring to it.

blueski, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:46 (nineteen years ago)

funny, i've always described victoria park as being in bethnal green or mile end, depending on which of those places i was living in at the time!

also, this needs repeating: unnecessary fannydangle!

when are we talking, then? i'm definitely in, in theory.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:50 (nineteen years ago)

Which evening this week would be most appropriate for all?

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

^^^

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

thursday.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

has traditionally been for rehearsal but I will consult the Shimuras.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

ok, friday.

emsk, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Friday is very good.

Ed, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

DO NOT BE HUNGOVER FOR OUR GIG AGAIN!!!

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

I will be fresh as a daisy and full of vitamin D.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Did anyone ever decide which park it should be?

I probably still won't come as it is in HACKNEY but I'd like to know.

This Sunday is STREATHAM KITE DAY so if anyone feels like coming down south, you can fly a kite.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I like the sound of that.

Ed, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

They are going to have STUNT KITE flyers.

I have never been to Streatham Kite Day before, as it's always the weekend of my birthday - so I'm glad they've moved it later this year. Streatham Common seems like a good hill to fly kites on, there aren't that many trees.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

is there such a thing as necessary fannydangle?

ken c, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Ask Galileo.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:34 (nineteen years ago)

we stopped talking ever since he let me go.

ken c, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Let's do this thing. It will get sunny and if it doesn't well, there is always the pub.

Ed, Friday, 20 April 2007 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

well? sun is on!

emsk, Friday, 20 April 2007 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Ed, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

blueski, Friday, 25 May 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

ken c, Friday, 25 May 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)
