Meanwhile, back at Glyn's sneaky 3am feast kitchen...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 07:41 (nineteen years ago)

so, how come the Nikki lovers don't like Jayne? she's as much of a 'character' as Nikki was. she's making it interesting in that she's not a smiley, get-along-gang type. yet, everyone hates her. plz to explain.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

no sense

RJG (RJG), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

me, jayne, or the haters?

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:48 (nineteen years ago)

jayne just strikes me as one of those people who is full of excuses. 'they couldn't read my handwriting'. especially bad after claiming she knew it all backwards. pah.

laughed like a drain at nikki's exit and her poleaxed expression. then felt bad for doing it. she was better with dermot on sunday but... odd that her audience response was 100% positive when GBP had chosen her out of the 11 to leave

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

aye, a disappointing lack of booing.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

audience != GBP, to say the least.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

nikki's eviction was one of the best ever.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 08:58 (nineteen years ago)

Nikki's flatmate = HOTT

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Nikki's flatemate = looks like she could do with a trip to the GUM clinic.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:12 (nineteen years ago)

> audience != GBP, to say the least.

but a subset of, surely.

the thing with evictions featuring large numbers people is that you can't vote against the people you want to keep in (if you see what i mean).

> nikki's eviction was one of the best ever.

in terms of content? it was largely video highlights because they couldn't trust her to be able to put two sentences together.

> Nikki's flatemate = looks like she could do with a trip to the GUM clinic.

but her teeth looked ok. 8)

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

Surely Nikki wasn't really voted out? I just can't believe it, it all felt so fake. The ridiculously sanitized 100 percent approval rating cheers, the fact she probably wouldn't have been up for eviction without BB intervention, the fact that she asked Davina if her mum had made them kick her out and Davina said "oh I don't know anything about that!".

CONSPIRACY!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Well, 'That poll thing' had her at 30% or higher, the whole time.

Well, isn't it nominations day today?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

i think Davina was being tactful, it's a lot nicer than saying "no dear, you really ARE the least popular of a dozen fuckheads" xpost

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

so were they all up for eviction last week? i've been away a lot recently and have missed loads.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

but just watched nikki's eviction on youtube. classic.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

> so were they all up for eviction last week? i've been away a lot recently and have missed loads.

all except Jayne. mass eviction was punishment for jayne's repeated rulebreaking (talking about the outside world, covering / forgetting mics). they also lost their food budget and pool privileges due to further rulebreaking. she really is a twonk.

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

Nikki's total meltdown upon receiving the news of her impending eviction receives my vote for being the most uncomfortable piece of television viewing this year.

ps I think this thread should have been called, "But My Journey Isn't Over Yet."

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 17 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

so everyone else except jayne was up for eviction because jayne broke the rules?
?

what the fuck are bb doing with all this double standard shit. no wonder people jump up and shout consipiracy each week.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

yeah jayne should be automatically evicted. remember dawn!?

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

no, because she was dull.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

Dawn was 'ejected' because she had a pre-arranged 'coded' message to come out of the house, and the BB producers wouldn't give her the satisfaction of being in control of her own destiny.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

so everyone else except jayne was up for eviction because jayne broke the rules?
?

what the fuck are bb doing with all this double standard shit. no wonder people jump up and shout consipiracy each week.

Ste, it's a common tactic used in punishment - if someone won't refrain from breaking the rules on their own, utilise the WRATH of the peer group to stop them. It's normally effective, but in this case everyone still seems to love Jayne. I have no idea why.

emil.y (emil.y), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

but they (BB) weren't thinking much because said peer group had nothing to do with actual eviction and i think the end result was another disaster for them.

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Course, putting the whole house up for eviction gives the producers a handy snapshot of exactly how popular each housemate is too, which they wouldn't have otherwise, and which they can then use to keep their viewing figures up.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:55 (nineteen years ago)

Not exactly though - didn't Jennie get a tiny percentage of the vote? No one hates her enough to want her out of the house, but no one thinks she's a potential winner either.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:57 (nineteen years ago)

...everyone still seems to love Jayne. I have no idea why.

-- emil.y (container_driver...), July 17th, 2006. (later)

Because she's like the puppy that shits all over the floor. You know she only does it because she can't help herself.

ps Personally I loathe the woman. To the point that whenever she appears on the highlight doing something stupid (which is all the time) I find myself hurling imprecations at the TV. Which can't be right. I do wonder how she manages to hold down a job...

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still reeling over the loss of Nikki. I'm in a state of unbelievement.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Dawn was 'ejected' because she had a pre-arranged 'coded' message to come out of the house, and the BB producers wouldn't give her the satisfaction of being in control of her own destiny.was black.

Fixed.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

I do suspect that Faria Alam was right

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

koogs & g-kit should get voted off the BB threads. this

> nikki's eviction was one of the best ever.

in terms of content? it was largely video highlights because they couldn't trust her to be able to put two sentences together.

strikes me as particularly off the money where disliking someone amounts to calling them thick. the one thing nikki never needed was help expresssing herself, she was incredibly articulate whether you like her or not. as for g-kit, his jayne = the same as nikki rant is just baffling.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Ste, it's a common tactic used in punishment - if someone won't refrain from breaking the rules on their own, utilise the WRATH of the peer group to stop them

yeah i guessed this was bb's tactic. but from what i've seen in previous shows most housemates seem to forgive and forget quite easily about stuff that's happened over a week ago and only vote on people based on what's happened in the past couple of days.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

collective punishment.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

Not exactly though - didn't Jennie get a tiny percentage of the vote? No one hates her enough to want her out of the house, but no one thinks she's a potential winner either.

That's still useful for endemol though. I guess keeping the audience up is as much about giving screen time to the people everyone hates as to the ones they all love.

the one thing nikki never needed was help expresssing herself

True, up until the interview itself...but then for the first 30 seconds it was looking like she maybe wasn't going to be able to speak, full stop. I think at that point it was probably fair of them to start filling the time with extra best bits.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

old news now maybe, but Jayne definitely said "like you", to my ears:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhHCHtkHJmw

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

to mine to. they replayed it the other night. she so did!

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

yeah totally 100% "like you". the fact that they both react to it at exactly the same moment followed by jayne starting the next sentence with the word "like" after aisleyne questions her on it pretty much confirms it. grimly needs his ears syringed.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

> she was incredibly articulate whether you like her or not.

not on friday, she was literally speachless when they opened the door, and just stood there gawping and spent most of the interview looking like a rabbit in headlights. i think the only thing she said during first half was her blurting out her support for jayne. and three video pakages during the first half was obviously to give her time to calm down. (xpost jim)

> where disliking someone amounts to calling them thick

i never called her thick, never said i disliked her. i think there's something wrong about her but that's another matter...

(besides, if i was up against g-kit i think i'd win 8)

koogy wonderland (koogs), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

Well, we heard "about you" that time.. xpost

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

nikki's two-minute close-up at the top of the steps was remarkable.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

that's the most footage i've seen of jayne so far and i pretty much despise her already from that.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

she was clearly having a panic attack when they opened the door. she had one on the way in too, was vibrating with fear before she opened the house door to go in. it took her about 5 minutes to calm dow during the interview, not as long as everyone is making out. the reason the show was packed with best bits was because there were a hell of a lot of them, probably more than any other BB contestant.

xpost enrique OTM, it communicated much more than an interview could have anyway.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

I listened to it a few times on my new home cinema system and can't hear it as "about you" no matter how hard I try.

But what no one seems to have mentioned it that "like you" is ambiguous in this context. It could either mean "I'm not a bullshitter like you are" or "I'm not a bullshitter, like you (aren't either)".

Alba (Alba), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

I was disappointed they didn't play Nikki's post-pickled onion "I think that's plenty" in her diary room best bits.

Maybe they'll play it in the echoey empty house finale shots.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

It could either mean "I'm not a bullshitter like you are" or "I'm not a bullshitter, like you (aren't either)".

...but i'd say its pretty obvious what she meant (even if she didn't mean to say it out loud).

i am not a nugget (stevie), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Re Jayne and "like you"...only just seen that clip for the first time. Yes, she says "like you". But she says "I don't bullshit about, me. Like you". Meaning "I'm like you in that I don't bullshit about", not meaning "I don't bullshit about in the way that you do". Seems REALLY obvious to me that that's what she meant, not sure how other people (including A and M) managed to misinterpet it in the first place.

Hurts me to defend Jayne, cos she's absolutely awful(*), but I think she's getting misrepresented there.

(*) "would you like to go in the diary room?"
"yes"
"with me?"
"no, by myself"
"but would you like to go with me as well? I'm a very open person, me".

FUCK OFF!

(oh, xpost alba)

JimD (JimD), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

Seems REALLY obvious to me that that's what she meant, not sure how other people (including A and M) managed to misinterpet it in the first place.

i assumed that's what she meant straight away, mostly cos she gets a kick from getting in aisleyne's face and fucking with her head, and then pulling back and suggesting she wasn't.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get it, though

if that's what she meant, did she just forget what she had, one v short moment before, just said? if she had just said "I meant, I don't bullshit about, like you don't bullshit about" it would have been explained

even if that's what she meant, it's bullshit because she doesn't think that aisleyne doesn't bullshit

I don't like "bullshit", v much

RJG (RJG), Monday, 17 July 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

whatever jayne said, i don't think it was "like you". and my ears are very clean indeed ;)

i agree with jimD that she's been misinterpreted; however, in the context of the discussion, the preceding events and the atmosphere in the house at the time, AND given that she just rattles out a whole heap of shit, constantly, i find it very easy to understand why A&M (particularly A) jumped to the conclusion they did.

but they (BB) weren't thinking much because said peer group had nothing to do with actual eviction and i think the end result was another disaster for them.

yes, absolutely. this whole series has lurched from crisis to crisis both internally and in terms of viewer perception - and a lot of it seems to me to stem from the machinations of the production team. i mean, what do they EXPECT if they fill the house full of people who've spent several weeks watching it from outside? no doubt someone thought this was awfully clever, but with hindsight it seemed destined to fail.

the "putting everyone up for eviction" thing smacks of desperation. i mean, "big brother"/the production team calls the shots, and they could have picked any number of punishments. they must have known the risk they were taking; however, i'm quite sure they shat it once they realised they were in danger of losing nikki, and i'm sure they're as gutted as many people on this thread seem to be - particularly as i think she'd have made them more money as a "vote to win" candidate.

if there's a lesson to be learned here, i think it's that they need to get back to basics next year. but they won't, will they?

x-post: RJG, i think it's because she's fucking barking mad.

there's really no need for that.

sorry 4 haev oponion.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

i was going to say what RJG said. why didn't she just correct herself then? why did she decide to argue that she'd said two completely different words.

grimly i can't believe you don't think she said "like you" it's pretty clear.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

When she got pompous on last night's ep was priceless: "I'M A THIRTY-SEVEN YEAR-OLD WOMAN WITH MY OWN BUSINESS". They should repeat that back to her every time she belches. Or punch in her the face, I'm easy.

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

I expect she just failed to recognise the potential ambiguity of her word order. As far as she was concerned, she'd just said "I don't bullshit, like you don't bullshit". Then there was a bit of "hold on, what did you just say?" during which she reitterated her own "I said I don't bullshit" thing. Then she got hit with "but you think I DO bullshit?" and was understandably confused.

I dunno, I can imagine that happening to me, cos when you try to remember something you just said, you usually remember what you meant, rather than what words you used. Or at least I do.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

yes, I was sure it was "like you" first time and then michael and aisleyne's reactions and jayne being stupid about what she said

hearing it, now, I am 10000000% sure it is "like you", no matter what she meant but I still think she meant it as a dig

crosspost

yeah, the belching thing gets more & more horrible, incredibly. she always says "sorry guys" immediately after and, last night, said "I'll make it up to you in the morning"????????

RJG (RJG), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

BTW SORRY GUYS, I'LL MAEK IT UP 2 U IN THE MORNING

teh_kit haev been evicted lol (g-kit), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

The thing is, she opens her mouth wide before the burp comes out. So it kind of looks like she knows it's coming, and is seeking to make it as loud as possible. But who knows what goes on in that brain.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

you usually remember what you meant, rather than what words you used. Or at least I do.

whereas jayne, it's increasingly clear, has no idea what she said, what she meant, who she is or what the fuck she's doing. ever. except burping.

my mate nelly at school could burp the word "bollocks", labio-dental fricatives and all. now that was talent.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 17 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

my mate nelly at school could burp the word "bollocks", labio-dental fricatives and all. now that was talent.

koogs & g-kit should get voted off the BB threads
there's really no need for that.

sorry 4 haev oponion.

i know, i don't want you off the threads really. i didn't watch the programme last night i watched bruce parry's "tribe" & the featured tribal rituals of coffee spitting (on each others' faces) and later blood spitting (again, as a mark of huge respect, on your tribe members face) seemed no more bizarre than BB. hopefully i won't be watching again but i will read the threads. what is there to watch? pete seems just as annoying & dull as jayne at this point.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, I've lost interest in pete too. I still think he is nice, and coping admirably with being in a house with such horrible, horrible people, but he isn't really doing anything much that I've seen and hasn't been for weeks.

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 17 July 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

Put it this way: Glyn was 6/1 oddswise, which may well be a good earner.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

his responses to nikki post eviction-announcement when she was saying how much she's miss him and would they keep i touch etc. seemed no less fake & manipulative to me than richard or lea - esp in the light of the fact that aisleyne had spent the preceeding nights in his bed. he just seems remarkably unaware of how his actions can affect people & i don't find that naivity charming or particularly excusable!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

You're meaning Pete, right?

Nikki: "Say something complimentary to me"
Pete: "..... why?"

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, I've lost interest in pete too. I still think he is nice, and coping admirably with being in a house with such horrible, horrible people, but he isn't really doing anything much that I've seen and hasn't been for weeks.

Everyone eligible, no-one banned from nominating.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

That's not happened since last year, amirite?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 17 July 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

well that was pretty boring.

for this week, i think richard must go.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

It's getting into the realms of advanced psychological torture now. Poor Glyn.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Richard was a real insufferable cock to Michael today but Spiral managed to somehow be worse. I kind of felt for Glyn at the end though. What on earth was it he was trying to cook?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

That last sequence was actually quite mesmerising - like BB directed by Michael Haneke or something.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

popcorn? porridge?

of course spiral was a cunt, but his basic point was right -- bb were needlessly cruel. it wasn't funny, just twattish.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

porridge

the liquidised meal prank would have been almost funny on most of the other people

spiral lol, jayne lol, richard lol, even susie, mikey, imogen lol

glyn was funny in the task, though

there was another bit we were laughing at, a lot, but I forget

glyn asking for food, again, in the diary room, was funny, too

RJG (RJG), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

I had some twinkling of empathy for Spoiral's point too, despite

a) his putting it across psychotically

and

b) the fact that they can go home any point they're not happy

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Monday, 17 July 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

that's the second time glyn has won something not worth winning for an endurance task (the other being the dancing trophy). that would be enough for me to not bother the next time.

koogy wonderland (koogs), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

why was spiral told off by BB? i missed that bit because of a phone call.

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 07:36 (nineteen years ago)

Jennie told him to calm down calm down so he stuck her with a shiv.

More Tongue Feldman (noodle vague), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

The "only newspaper coverting BB on the front page" is covering the "scandal" of Jayne being kept in by their maneuverings, citing how Dawn was kicked out for one rule break, and yet Jayne hasn't.

Yeah yeah, but that's all last weeks news! Nominations result announcement today. We'll see.

Less known, apparently Spiral has had three warnings for being 'sexually aggressive' with Aisleyne.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

what's the most nominations any one person has ever got? with 11 people still in the house and jayne's obvious transgressions i think she may get the most ever.

koogy wonderland (koogs), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:25 (nineteen years ago)

shiv?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

Glyn should've downed that awful concoction, chundered all over the diary room and said "thanks, that was lovely. get that lot for me, eh?

i have to say, i laughed. obviously i am very evil.
i'm enjoying BB lately. jayne is mesmerisingly dumb; i guess jayne is my Nikki. i hope richard goes next.

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

is there only 5 weeks left? i'm sure i heard glyn mention it.
if so, that'll mean 2 a week to go won't it?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:03 (nineteen years ago)

if there are eleven, now, and no-one else being added, not two a week, no

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

spiral coming out of the shower and cornering aisleyne was defo 'going too far'.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

They'll have a load go in surprise final week evictions. I think the producers have worked out that just three or four in the final week gets very dull.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

but so does having evictions every 30 minutes. i've always thought that friday is the dullest night of the week as it's mostly recaps and 'insightful' comments. 'what did you learn during your time in the house?'...

spectacle of pete shouting 'paddy!' at irishman may taint his nice guy image (?).

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

"rapist!"

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

I winced a bit but I don't think it was not nice of Pete to say that.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm getting a bit fed up of all the "let's find a chink in Pete's good behaviour to try and undermine him entirely and make out he's just as bad as everyone else". I think he just makes viewers uncomfortable by making them look bad. It reminds me of people who rail against "do-gooders". Nothing wrong with finding him boring or annoying, but yeah, anyway, I'm back on a canonise Pete tip.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

But I've put good money on Glyn to win!!

ach, it's a bargain and will happen, so no worries!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

boring and annoying is enough.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

From the Daily Mail:
The family of the Liverpudlian teenager have claimed she has eight A-Levels and speaks three foreign languages - Spanish, French and Turkish

Oh, this is really irking me now! She is 18, so she must have gone into the BB house before even finishing her A Levels, the same as Glyn.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

I heard she had a doctorate in comparative philology. Actually two.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

That's comparitive, having two...

-- Cathy (cathyleec...), July 18th, 2006.

nah. i took mine when i was 17.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

her 19th birthday would have to be before early sept.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

Also, her parents names are, as far as I can tell, Conner and Parker. So no French/Turkish/Spanish parents to explain her supposed "fluency". I want her exposed!

Yeah, if she had a summer birthday she could be 18 and have taken her A Levels last year. But she said in her VT she was at college in Crewe.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

But A levels don't exist now really. Everyone does AS levels, so you can have three of your six A levels at 17 (I guess) before you sit the others the summer before going to Uni. Or on a gap year, if you are from Kent.

3underscore (___), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Is Jennie really the same age as Glyn? Wow.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

You do the AS when you are 17 and the A2 (A Level) at 18 (or 16 and 17 if you are younger in the year). Usually people take 5 AS levels then drop to 3 or 4 in the second year.

She is probably at South Cheshire college, which allows students to take a maximum of 5 subjects. It's not even a question of intelligence, she just wouldn't feasibly be able to manage the workload of taking 8 subjects, especially if we are to believe she is also a barmaid and sales advisor as she has also claimed.

So, three possibilities:

1) Her mum is counting her 5 AS levels plus 3 A2 levels as 8 A Levels, despite the fact that three would just be a continuation of the same subjects, and the AS is supposedly half the old A Level in difficulty.

2) Her mum actually means she has 8 GCSES.

3) Her mum is just lying.

Given the Turkish fluency etc claims, I suspect 3.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Not to go on about this, but Glyn's odds are now 6/1 or 5/1 depending on where you go...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

Jennie also says her favourite book is Jordan's autobiography. I guess with all the A Levels she's been doing she hasn't had time to read anything else.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

Jennie's dad is called Keith and he's a no-mark

Also, her parents names are, as far as I can tell, Conner and Parker. So no French/Turkish/Spanish parents to explain her supposed "fluency".

This is like saying someone called Dastoor can't be English!

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

She is quite pretty, though.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

You just don't like her cause she makes you feel an ignoramus, Cathy.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand the intro videos at all. Are they filmed professionally after the contestant's already been accepted for Big Brother? I vaguely remember audition videos for the older BBs being filmed at home with VHS camcorders and the like, not in a black studio with zany editing and completely out-of-character scripts. They all come off as though they were written by the same person, now. (xpost)

Jayne, for example. Ugh.

(Judy is a useless old bint, isn't she. Nikki was explaining the long-term effects her teenage anorexia has had on her, including a hiatus hernia which still affects her. "ooh," squeaked Judy "my mam had one of them")

MY THOUGHTS EGGSACTLY

i am not a nugget (stevie), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

Actually I thought I was being an armchair psychologist but a bit of reading suggests that a link between Tourette's and Asperger's/Autism is not uncommon. Some of his attitudes and behaviour seem quite Asperger's-y to me so it's perhaps not entirely wilful mindgames he's playing with ver ladiez.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:44 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think he's at all aspergersy, but i am a bit sus re. 'aspergers' becoming such a hot disorder these past few years (i totally know real cases btw i'm not denying it exists or owt).

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:47 (nineteen years ago)

eg "this guy has no social skills and talks endlessly and obsessively about stuff that interests him alone" != aspergers, to cite a recent uh argument i had.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

i thought tourettes was totally tied in with autistic-spectrum behaviour? but this is based on a sketchy memory of the sequel to "john's not mad" a couple of years ago.

i like pete. i really, really like him. i think he's honest and caring and a little over-emotional, and he just wants to be people's friend. it's not his fault nikki and lea are needy fools who've convinced themselves they're in love with him. whatever he feels for nikki - and i don't think it's that he fancies her, certainly - it obviously means a lot to him. as someone said upthread: he's not perfect, but fuck's sake, he's head and shoulders above the rest. i think he's fucking ace.

While Lise Mayer c. 2006 = HUBBA HUBBA HUBBA!!!!

you realise she's 50, or thereabouts? good god. that's one serious picture-in-the-attic thing she's got going on there.

rik mayall ... the "lemmy, wherever you are ... hey" thing ... every muscle in my body is going into spasm remembering that. eew.

without wishing to derail things further: has anyone seen either of the "boom boom ... out go the lights?" shows? are they worth seeking out?

AND NO MENTION OF HAPPY FAMILIES EITHER, I NOTICED. fuckers. gah.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

I know it's been over-(self)diagnosed but I've known lots of folks on the Autistic spectrum too and he does seem to have this very simplified/childlike view of human behaviour or ethics. I think there's a very blurred borderline between personality traits and the high-functioning end of Autistic Spectrum disorders.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

From the National Autistic Society's website:

The whole spectrum is defined by the presence of impairments affecting social interaction, communication and imagination, known as the triad of impairments...

The items making up the triad can be shown in a wide range of different ways. The manifestations vary with the severity of the disability. Changes occur with age, especially in those with higher levels of ability; different aspects of the behaviour pattern are more obvious at some ages than at others.

Education and the social environment can have marked effects on overt behaviour; in a very structured setting, with one to one attention, the autistic behaviour may not be shown in any obvious way. It should also be remembered that all children have their own personality, which affects their reaction to their disabilities.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

And I quite clearly said I wasn't making a diagnosis, just that the possibility was there.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

I think I largely agree with his view of human behaviour and ethics. Maybe I am childlike too.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, iow it's difficult. cos from watching it he seems quite self-aware and he might have said something if it had been diagnosed (?) but he doesn't. i don't know, i just didn't believe him that one night when lea got up in his face and he said 'oh i had no idea' that she wanted to get physical and he thought they were just mates... i thought he was being consciously deceitful, rather than exhibiting whatever.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

Lea was like that with half the male housemates, he probably didn't notice!

I think Pete's behaviour is grounded in a genuine desire to avoid hurting other people's feelings and cause a massive scene in the house and if this leads to consicous deceit then he's cool with that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

I think Pete's behaviour is grounded in a genuine desire to avoid hurting other people's feelings and cause a massive scene in the house

i think that's kind of true only i'd add "so that everyone outside thinks he's a nice guy and thus he wins". but he hurts people's feelings anyway. it's a parable of sorts.

it's still a gameshow.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, agreed it's still a gameshow. I'm not drawing conclusions, just pondering possibilities. I find a lot of his schtick tedious and annoying too.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:23 (nineteen years ago)

i like pete. i really, really like him. i think he's honest and caring and a little over-emotional, and he just wants to be people's friend. it's not his fault nikki and lea are needy fools who've convinced themselves they're in love with him. whatever he feels for nikki - and i don't think it's that he fancies her, certainly - it obviously means a lot to him. as someone said upthread: he's not perfect, but fuck's sake, he's head and shoulders above the rest. i think he's fucking ace.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

Tourette's is actually on the same treatment spectrum as epilepsy (some consider it petit mal in nature), stammering and bi-polarity in the sense that many of the same medications are prescribed as mood stabilisers for sufferers - it's a broken-record kind of brain glitch that the medicine corrects or cuts extremities out. I don't think he is on the autistic spectrum at all.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:28 (nineteen years ago)

But as I said trying to make a clinical diagnosis via a telly programme is a bit futile.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

I find it mindboggling how the GBP didn't rise up as one and smite Spiral with a kick up the arse. The guy threatens small girls! An absolute horror of a human being, from his dress sense, his mannerisms (fuck that talking-high-pitched-and-quiet-with-an-edge-of-real-menace shit) to everything else. The only decent thing he's done is his pisstake of Richard & the mice.

Jayne in the diary room reminded me of http://www.beatles.com/hub/gfx/articles/yeloSub/The%20Chief%20Blue%20Meanie.jpg
but I feel I might be alone on this (something to do with the way she'd applied her makeup).

I laughed and laughed at Glyn's liquidised meal, how could that not be funny? Surely he didn't HAVE to drink it, I thought that was just Glyn being greedy and gormless.

I agree with the Michael=Eugene/Cameron/Craig (but it has to be Eugene minus all likeability), reminds me of so so many dreadful undergraduates I've met.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

Part of Michael's problem with Richard (apart from both Michael and Richard being a pair of total bell-ends, that is) seems to be that Michael comes across as very uncomfortable at how in-yer-face Richard is about his sexuality. Even Pete, who comes across as a bit of a naif sometimes, seems to have no problem dealing with Richard's overt campness.

Given Michael appears to be some species of Godbotheringfearing Christian I wonder whether he's only recently come out and hasn't had all that much experience with old queens of Richard's ilk.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

that's how richard plays it, anyway; i think he said that michael couldn't handle how sexual he was or something along those lines. but richard's campness is very asexual -- he isn't actually very in-yer-face in that way. his campness comes down to shitty put-downs.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

According to Mikey his innuendo (geddit?) is not so much in-your-face as in-your-arse

Dadaismus (Are we in love like I think we be?) (Dada), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

That's kinda par for the course for an older gay man who's associating with a pretty, younger, hetero guy. And Richard did say in his audition piece that he'd turned many a previously straight man - presumably unsubtle sexual innuendo was his winning strategy.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

He means the Jooz.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

Does it sound mad to suggest that Richard might actually be the one that's uncomfortable with his sexuality? He bangs on and on about it ad nauseum but whenever there's another homosexual in the house (Shahbaz, Michael), the first thing Richard does is distance himself from them and then try to bully them. He's either trying to establish himself as Alpha Gay, or he's being the Only Gay In The House. I'm interested in seeing how this relationship develops, so Richard to stay. Jayne is just stomping round the house being annoying now.

Spiral is basically Science without the rapping, isn't he? Although I did love his conversation with Michael. "Sure they've got melons in the Third World, can't they just, grow 'em on trees loike?"

All of this is distracting from the more pertinent question - ie when is Glyn going to start dry-humping Jennie?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

By which I mean, Michael's taking a line of "so I fancy blokes, that doesn't dictate everything about me", while Richard doesn't seem to understand why he'd want to talk to him about anything else.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

Is it not possible to just not like Richard? The only explanation is to be uncomfortable with your sexuality?
-- theantmustdance (theantmustdanc...), July 19th, 2006. (later)

It's very possible to dislike Richard, I do myself, and it appears that the majority of the house do too. I'm actually sympathetic to Michael's stance ie."Just 'cos I fancy blokes doesn't mean I have to be camp...", unfortunately the fact that he's at least as camp as Richard is - in his own inimitable fashion - kinda blows that argument way out of the water. viz. Everyone in the House-Next-Door spotting that he was gay and Michael behaving as though there might be some sort of ambiguity about it.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 July 2006 09:33 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i think its a further example of the shitheadness she displayed in the little house, when she flipped after aisleyne nominated her out.

she mentioned that she would be getting her own back on those who were too happy that she was nominated, and mentioned someone who went off to make a cup of tea (suzy?). i presume she watched grace's exit on tv, too, and wouldn't mind a bit of that sort of action.

Did I really see Spoiral lying in his bed with vigourous movements going on under the duvet on the 9pm show the other night?

I used to know somebody with both Tourettes and Asperger's but her Tourettes was more about grunts and twitches than wwwwwankers! Frankly, I think Endemol would be totally stupid to put anyone spergy in the house, what with all that unpredictability they like to throw into the mix.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 20 July 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Um, from what I can gather they already did in this series - and if you're lucky you might bump into the guy on your way to work...

As far as the Asperger's thing's concerned, having had a day to think about it, I realise I was talking more or less bollocks. I've been thinking about the line between personality and pathology for a good while, but I need to think about it some more, obv. And Big Bruv thread is not the place. Alba (Alba), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't like Richard much before but my dislike for him just went up tenfold. There could well be a flurry of votes against him now, keeping Jayne in after all.

Also, is everyone's dislike for Mikey purely down to his original video? He was kind of awesome today, the way he just sat there and stared Richard down and just went "no, you're bullshitting, you're lying".

It's very entertaining watching Richard, who has now entirely lost control of relationships within the house, attempting to walk around like he's still on his pedestal. It's like watching the fall of Alistair Campbell or something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

Other thoughts from tonight:

- Is it just me, or has this BB got a million times better since they refilled the house?

- If Richard goes on Friday, there are only four of the original housemates left. Blimey.

- Richard is very, very shallow isn't he? Almost like he genuinely couldn't understand he and Michael aren't de facto on the same time because they both like fucking blokes.

- I really, really like it when Imogen swears. Is there a Youtube video of her just going "just fucking move your arse" and "he's a fucking cock".

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

Michael overreacted and should just humour Richard more, but I was totally on his side idealogically.

Girls swearing is sexy.

xpost - I saw the last ten minutes of Brooker and it was fantastic. Was the rest that good? Next week I'm going to try and remember to watch Brooker on BB rather than actual BB.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

Even Mikey's mum doesn't think Mikey is "pretty great".

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

In fact especially Mikey's mum. Poor bitch had to grow up with him.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

fuck me, richard is a twunt. what a howling creamer he is. "we're on the same team" ... NO YOU'RE NOT. you're both gay: w00t. you, michael and several million other blokes. so what, you should be able to sit there and lord it over all of them too; to patronise and belittle them because, just maybe, they define themselves by something other than who they like to fuck?

(granted, michael appears to define himself by a whole heap of cod-mystical tantric lunacy, but we'll let that one slide.)

matt's right: he just didn't get it, did he? michael mounted an impassioned if not-desperately-eloquent defence-cum-explanation in the bedroom; the second he walked out, richard dismissed him as "a queen" and tried to write the whole thing off because, y'know, fighting's just what gay men do.

it's got fuck all to do with michael being gay, you twat, or with his perception of himself. but it's got everything to do with how you perceive him and how you treat him.

i'm reassured by the fact that other people are as pissed off as i am. what a hat-wearing tube he is.

if he and jayne get equal votes, do they both go? hey, i can dream.

also annoying tonight: aisleyne trying (and sadly succeeding) on three different occasions to make the whole thing about herself. "yeh it's like me because ..."

shut up, aisleyne. you're a pillock.

xpost: arse, i forgot about brooker. is it being repeated?

o, and mikey ... nah. he spoke some sense tonight, but he's still a dense dullard. and i cannot forgive him for that video, no.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

Brooker's reapeated at 2.00 tonight.

chap who would dare to start Raaatpackin (chap), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

richard almost saying "impudence", rather than "impetus", to glyn

he is so bad because he never really gets angry or raises his voice. his low, overconfident, sniggerly drawl sums up his level of being-a-dick, for me. I really believe that he is so stupid that he actually thinks he's OK

not so much from jayne, tonight. probably the attempt to keep her in. she is def trying to make those burps as loud as they can be

still want richard out, first, though--jayne can wait a week (maybe more!!)

imogen & mikey talking positions was an awful LOL, too

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

NB If you choose to stay up til 2 AM, Brooker has LOST IT and his current persona is a UNFUNNY POMPOUS COKEFORMER

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

Mikey was a lot more vile when Grace was in the house and he just went along with all her horrible bitching, and said things in the diary room like "Aisleyne seems to not like Gracie but I don't know what reason she's got not to like her, maybe because Gracie's prettier than her".

He does really overdoes the sound bloke routine every time there is any conflict.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

sound blokes are such dicks

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

Mikey reminds me of Mike Dixon, i.e. the foulest waste of oxygen to ever grace a soap opera. Including Ron.

Annie Get Your Gin (noodle vague), Thursday, 20 July 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

The thing that got to me about Richard is that he made that speech about how he wasn't into performance earlier in the day and then his whole schtick with Michael in the bedroom argument was *complete* performance. He refused to deign to engage with Michael one-to-one and was constantly playing to the floor, looking around at people with his "what's she like?" face on. THE most annoying, smug way to conduct yourself with someone who's wound up at you.

Grrr... I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but really. Vile.

I really don't like Richard, but I am fairly accustomed to his dick-ishness. However, Jayne must go this week. I can't bare her for much longer, and I have a feeling she won't be up for eviction next time around since everyone does seem to like her. Richard will definitely be up again next week, and probably every week until the public votes him out.

Jayne to go this week, to be safe.

The Ultimate Conclusion (lokar), Thursday, 20 July 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

probably a good point, that.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 20 July 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

Brooker's Screen Burn started out as Harry Hill's TV Burp and ended up Victor Lewis-Smith. He was v good on Doctor Who though - actually reviweing it rather than sneering at a clip.

BB was meh. Bring back Nikki.

David Orton (scarlet), Thursday, 20 July 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

Good result really, Jayne wasn't really doing anything other than getting in the way and being loud and annoying. Now Richard and Michael has another week to ferment. I love the way Michael brazenly had his head in his hands on hearing the result.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 21 July 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

she's gone! thank FUCK for that, eh kids?

and apparently they're all going to be chained together next week, and we get to vote two of them out. bye, aisleyne. i didn't hear all the alleged "get aisleyne out" stuff, but then we know what my hearing's apparently like :)

as for charlie brooker: i taped it at 2am and watched it just then. absolute FUCKING GENIUS. staggering. misanthropy in excelsis. i laughed so hard i missed bits and had to rewind it.

i've never seen what brooker looks like before. he has my hair, kind-of. and given that he's written by david quantick, whose early-nineties NME ramblings seem to have informed my own style of writing/thinking/being miserable, i feel a certain kinship.

i think he looks more like bs johnson than richard nixon, but hey.

however, i didn't realise he'd sold out to endemol.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:16 (nineteen years ago)

is his programme produced by endemol?

jed_ (jed), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

it's still nominally produced by zeppotron, his own company. but at the end it says "ZEPPOTRON: an endemol company". coo ur.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 July 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

The first series of the brooker thing (only three episodes) is up on UKNova at the moment, and worth grabbing, although that last segment of this week's was better than anything in there.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 21 July 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

Grimly, the Quantick is a lovely, lovely man. When at NME I called him The Smart One because only he knew this t-shirt I had was of a Barbara Kruger print (a good litmus test actually). Personally am waiting for Steven Wells to get in there, could suit him. However CB has been an Endemol slave since 2000, because that's where he was working when I met him to do piece on TV Go Home book.

Did anyone see what John McCririck did on BBBM? Pure drunken misogynist bile about and to Nikki, just eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 21 July 2006 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

that was disgraceful. brand should have ejected him.

suzy, i'm glad DQ is a good bloke. lots of people round here seem to hate him; i think he's godlike. seriously: his writing was a huge influence on my teenage mind.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

Richard's true evil self is only just coming to the fore, this could be great television. Especially if they chain he and Michael together!

Either Richard and Aisleyne or Richard and Spiral to go next, definitely.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

yes, i think richard's luck has run out. he can survive when he's up against the more polarising personalities, but if it's a double eviction he's fucked.

i'd far rather rapey joe got the boot than aisleyne.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

i was operating under the assumption that they were gonna be chained together and a chained pair would be evicted, as opposed to two individuals. mere speculation, obv.

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:13 (nineteen years ago)

i was operating under the assumption that they were gonna be chained together and a chained pair would be evicted, as opposed to two individuals

i thought that too, and i'm sure they'll be nominated that way. but i think the eviction will be a free choice of two out of four. after all, they'll make more money that way.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 22 July 2006 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

i thought that too, and i'm sure they'll be nominated that way. but i think the eviction will be a free choice of two out of four. after all, they'll make more money that way.

Would people vote more often just because the top two get evicted rather than a pair? I don't think this really follows. Voting for a pair is novel so raises interest and thus votes.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 22 July 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was pretty straightforward:

Housemates choose best friends and are chained up for this task.
They nominate as normal and are told who is up, as normal.
The public are, however, told that not only the housemate up for eviction PLUS their chainee will go if voted out by the public and this is what the housemates don't know.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

Pairings are:

Aisleyne/Jennie
Susie/Imogen
Pete/Richard
Glyn/Mikey
Spiral/Michael

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 22 July 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Suzy's formulation makes sense to me, though I assumed they would actually just combine ea each pair onto one phone number. Not that it makes any real difference.

Richard looks safe for another week, bah. I fear for Jennie, but the combined bleh-ness of Imogen and Susie might just swing it.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 22 July 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

two things, both musical. woo.

1) richard talking about the Plastics and how all they do is jump about and dance and how he didn't want to be like them. cue 80s disco. The Only Way Is Up. Yazz and the PLASTIC Population. "Ooh, Gay Anthem!" followed by 3 minutes of jumping about and dancing. richard's double standards in a nutshell.

2) Fat Bottomed Girls used as music for jayne's best bits.

> Spiral/Michael

two for the price of one!

koogy wonderland (koogs), Saturday, 22 July 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Well, there's a difference when you're just doing it to nothing and when they actually do play music in the house, which is something of a rarity.

I guess Michael will be the innocent party in this next eviction.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 July 2006 00:39 (nineteen years ago)

so i was right about the chainey evictions?

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

From watching last night it looks like Susie and Spiral are going to get all the nominations.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:20 (nineteen years ago)

So one housemate is evicted through being hated by the public, and the other is evicted for having the misfortune to be chained to them? Ouch.

Anyway, being chained to Pete will save Richard for another week. No one cares enough about Michael to be at all bothered about sending him down with Spiral.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:35 (nineteen years ago)

ditto jennie/aisleyne ... if they get the votes.

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:38 (nineteen years ago)

Bear in mind that each pairing will nominate together. I suppose that will be one set of votes per pair...

Aisleyne/Jennie wvf Richard and Spiral
Susie/Imogen wvf Aisleyne and Spiral
Pete/Richard wvf Aisleyne and Michael
Glyn/Mikey wvf Susie and Richard (without any debate)
Spiral/Michael wvf Richard and Susie.

Making :: 3 vf Richard, 2 vf Susie, 2 vf Spiral, 2 vf Aisleyne, 1 vf Michael...

making, Richard/Pete against Spiral/Michael (tiebreaker- add partner vote)

The songs:

Glyn was much like Edward Barton of "I've got no chicken but I've got five wooden chairs" fame.

Oh, and Spiral's "Father Ted bit as per the troggs tapes on his own with a xylophone" will be his highlight, come the day...

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 24 July 2006 07:55 (nineteen years ago)

If it's Richard / Pete vs. anyone, clearly they will stay because Pete is effectively giving Richard immunity.
The genius of Pete's song... Susie's face was a picture, as if she finds everything so very distasteful (so do I, generally, about Big Brother, but not this song).

No, his name is Glen, but the housemates didn't know this and were all asking him what it was (they've now worked it out). teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Monday, 24 July 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my fucking good god did anyone see the live feed circa 2am last night? I can't sleep a wink since getting out of hospital and turned it on, and Spiral was in the garden practising this rap, OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Like it showed it about 50 times.

The lyrics were something like

"I'll give you a complimenthe (menthe menthe), it's much betther than an argumenthe, (menthe menthe), so kiss me and don't you wonder, it's time to leth off some steam (yeah yeah), do you know whath i mean..............LEEEEAAAAAN"

it was fucking hilarious, everytime at the end he went "do you know whath i mean..................(curious facial expression) LEEAAAAAN"

tho perhaps it was "leyne" short for aisleyne, I eventually figured. either way it was so so funny, he did this about 30 times, no exaggeration, then shouted "LETHAL RHYMES, FUCKING LETHAL TUNE, YEEEEEEEEEEEAH" and went back into the house whistling the melody, all two notes of it.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 24 July 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Monday, 24 July 2006 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 06:49 (nineteen years ago)

It occurred to me yesterday that Spiral's real name might actually be Gareth Keenan. We can't lose both batshit housemates in one eviction.

How popular is Imogen among the viewing public? If people are voting to evict, I could see them staying in and Spiral/Michael going, but as Alba says, who in their right mind is going to vote for them to stay in?

Pete/Richard to get something like 95% of the votes anyway.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 July 2006 07:09 (nineteen years ago)

One of each of the pals pairs is in Prison, and the other is the jailor. Is this a commentary on the restrictive nature of close friendships and relationships? Putting people back, no matter how good they were before, is not as good as an idea as it seems, I don't think. I think even ardent Jon Tickle fans would say it didn't feel quite right when he went back in.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

Not necessarily because she went, (xpost) more that the show has filled the hole left by her with some interesting stuff.

Tonights show is all about the jailmates and their secret luxury room, and concealing the evidence from the inspectors (Mikey).

Should be good.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 08:09 (nineteen years ago)

Well, teh Grebt Britishes Public, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE VOTED HER OUT THEN, SHOULD YOU?!? It's not like she was up against one really popular person like Pete or anything, she was evicted out of EVERYONE (except Jayne). How popular does that make her, huh?

absolutely. i hate the grate british pubic.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

You are being silly. It's quite possible for a sizeable (and noisy) portion of the Great British Public to miss Nikki without them being hypocrites or stupid for having voted her out. Only 20 or 30 per cent of the votes were for her. She polarises opinion. It's like when certain bands used to appear on both the best and worst artist top 10s in end-of-year NME reader polls.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

v funny

pete & glyn's shushed expressions of massive surprise & excitement, w/ the prison outfits, made it like a funny silent movie

michael almost seemed like he was in on it, how much he was going on about being in the best position and thinking they would crack, next door, and how they had been foolish to rush into it and they are getting what they deserve and more and more, intercut w/ images of the prisoners w/ funny hats on and face masks and drinkin and havin fun, then, on boring guard, w/ mikey, saying "what is the most depressing thing that has ever happened to you?" and playing the "yes/no" game and mikey being totally fooled by the prisoners' act

makes me laugh

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 26 July 2006 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

Glyn's gurning in his little dance with Pete really was a treat. Then Spiral came in and was jumping up and down. It was like they were channeling six-year-olds at a party.

Big Brother 2006 contestant Nikki Grahame is to have her own TV show, Princess Nikki, on digital channel E4.
The model, 24, of Watford, Herts, gained a reputation for throwing temper tantrums on the Channel 4 reality show before she was evicted on 14 July.

The programme will follow her attempts to hold down an everyday job - referencing her stroppy turn as a PA in a Big Brother task.

It will be shown on E4 after Big Brother ends later this summer.

"They won't tell me what jobs I'll be doing, but they've told me they'll be tough," said Ms Grahame in a statement.

"As long as they don't make me a bin woman or put me on a fishing boat in the middle of the North Sea, I'll be okay."

A producer for the programme said: "Bin woman and deep sea trawler fisher-person are high on our list."

tonght's was the best BB since nikki left. i really think glynn should win.

that was one of the best BBs ever. it was interesting, different and laugh-out-loud funny. a proper show, as opposed to a dull hour of tedious "personalities" moaning a lot. this comment:

it's actually more interesting now the daily bitchfests and 'he-said-she-said' bollocks is over

is exceedingly OTM. the pete-and-glyn show last night was joyous: dancing about with sacks on their heads, eating cake, drinking beer ... oh, and pointing wildly at things. they (particularly glyn) were like the double-take brothers off the harry enfield show.

i'm assuming that the fact one of the "warders" now knows about the secret room means they won't be getting any letters from home?

think the bloke from DIY SOS on BBLB was spot on about imogen, that her dullness is due to being the only normal one in a house full of freakazoids. saw a bit of that 'dullness' during last night's show.

i figured they'd divide the locks by 4 (or do i mean 5?), have a bunch each. and a bunch of keys each. try each key in every lock in turn. pass to next person if no match (maybe add to the front of the next person's key queue as that key is already known to not match 1/4 of the locks). um, would be a fun little computer simulation.

trick is to not have anyone waiting for anyone else. more obvious trick it to not give up and go and spend time stuffing your face after 30 minutes.

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

apparently this has spiral rapping

i'm not the only one who read that horribly wrongly at first, am i?

i watched the highlights show in bed this morning. i fell back asleep thinking of ways to solve the padlock task :(

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 28 July 2006 08:46 (nineteen years ago)

So, unless there's a major swing-around, it'll be Michael/Spiral out.

Dunno, I don;t like either, and I like Imogen/(suzie in littler writing) but they are done now, right? Although it would get laddy if they didn;t go. Oh goshapaws.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 28 July 2006 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

i want richard and pete to go.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Friday, 28 July 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

wouldn't be unhappy w/ that

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 July 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

me either, but it's not gonna happen.

teh_kit is jayne without the tits (g-kit), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

Michael's such a pompous arse, he's brought this on himself. He's like the most dependably clueless person in the house, and the prison task has proven this - if he appears onscreen saying anything, you can bet the camera will swiftly cut to show that he doesn't have a CLUE what he's talking about.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Friday, 28 July 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

it's funny

when he went in, I think I remember thinking "I don't like this guy but he doesn't seem too nutty/dumb"

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 July 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

After being told that he definitely wasn't going, Pete replied, "I dunno, there's been so many shocks."

"I understand that, but you're not," Jennie explained. "I'm willing to bet my money on it. I would bet my little toe on it."

The pair then discussed possible uses for Jennie's toe if Pete claimed it after being evicted tonight, with the Scouser again insisting that he has nothing to worry about.

"It's gonna be well wicked tonight," Pete decided, appearing happier.

"Especially when you're not going," Jennie concluded.

cute

i'm stuck at work and missing this. all i have is a text from mrs fiendish saying: "goodbye rapey joe!"

mind, i've just been to the pub and managed to tan two pints, which will make the following 50 minutes' subbing surprisingly enjoyable. hurrah for BEER.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 28 July 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

sharpens the mind, too. how else would i have known that hugh o'conor only has one "n"?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 28 July 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

AND i can listen to the iPod. fuck big brother, this is great.

Jayne: by the way russel shall we get married? you're louder than me! you don't come up for air, love.

Russel: i think if i was with you i'd come up pretty swiftly.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 29 July 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

Imogen quite fetching in La Isla Bonita outfit.

Another inept interview from Davina. I'm guessing her interview with Aislyene won't be so soft, given her clear dislike of her(/women).

David Orton (scarlet), Saturday, 29 July 2006 07:41 (nineteen years ago)

dislike for pete growing significantly here. all that childish flirting w/ jennie was irritating maybe even creepy?

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 29 July 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

don't mean creepy becasue she's young (which she is) i mean creepy because he doesn't seem to realise that his acion have consequences.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 29 July 2006 22:41 (nineteen years ago)

he is very naive, isn't he? i felt very sorry for him not getting his letter from home BUT was also surprised at how he didn't seem to have thought it through at all: ie of course he wasn't going to get a letter if he didn't do that part of the task! i seem to remember there was a mention of this on "big brain": that pete is very bad at thinking things through logically, and working out what effect his behaviour might have on others.

yet i still think he's driven entirely by decency: that he wants to be a kind and wonderful person. he just doesn't understand that sometimes ... well, it's not that simple. other people don't always get where you're coming from.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 30 July 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think it was obvious that he wouldn't get a letter since he was still involved in keeping the tunnel a secret from the guards

perhaps he just forgot about the letter thing, too, for a moment rather than not thinking it through

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 30 July 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

perhaps, yes. i just think he is very impetuous.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 30 July 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

54. The trouble with that test is it tends to ask you your opinion of how people actually do act rather than how they should act.

The Machiavelli personality test has a range of 0-100
Your Machiavelli score is: 73
You are a high Mach, you endorse Machiavelli's opinions.
Most people fall somewhere in the middle, but there's a significant minority at either extreme.

Enrique (Enrique), Monday, 31 July 2006 09:40 (nineteen years ago)

I got 77! I am teh EVIL! But The Prince does contain a lot of good sense, I've never made it very far through The Discourses though. Oh sorry, this is a BB thread, I'll shut up.

i am not a nugget (stevie), Monday, 31 July 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

realised yesterday that this series of BB is now a lot like BB was back when it was good - all the extroverts have gone (except maybe richard), people are getting on, and the tasks are interesting (the prison thing was good). could do with some people in there that have actually read a book (not counting Jordan's biography), can hold a conversation and some tasks where the people involved learn a skill (i liked the circus task a few years ago for instance, the majorette task similarly but less so) but...

was surprised at IQ results given that glynn seems gormless at times and suzie seems best adapted for life in the real world (but realise that intelligence != common sense or general knowledge)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Monday, 31 July 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

52.. I am low mach, and a big mac. Whatever the latter means.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 31 July 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

61, which is supposedly high Mach

The next twist. Sounds like it could be amusing. Though I can't help thinking how Nikki would have failed to cope with it.

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 31 July 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

I must be watching too much BB. I thought that happened days ago, but it was only yesterday. Aisleyne apparently pressed all the buttons and it told her she was evicted and she did her "I don't like this game anymore" thing, which I find cute.
