I think the comicbook is the most amazing thing about it so far. Normally, if you have a comicbook in a superhero setting it brings up all kinds of questions that get left unasked and drive me crazy. This time they're actually asking those questions. Like the kid with the red towel around his neck watching the nurse jump off the jungle gym.

Hiro is definitely my favorite character, not just because he has the way coolest power. Wants-to-fly guy is totally not going to fly until the season (possibly series?) finale, when all HOPE is LOST. I kind of can't believe this show is on network tv, I mean, that person was PEGGED to the wall with like SCISSORS and MARKERS and shit, blood everywhere!
QUERSTOINS:
Does anyone think "Sylar" is actually "Las Vegas Niki" or whatever (mirror girl) when she blacks out?
What's up with the black man who the pilot from LOST couldn't mind-read? Is he blocking it? Does he know who he is and is just all zen-like mind-blanking it? WTF.

Also, I'm pretty sure cheerleader's dad is Sylar, who I'm also pretty sure is eating the brains of the sub-X-Men or whatever we want to call them, to take their powers. If he eats her brain though this is bad news because he will be indestructible.
Did anybody who watched this get the impression that junkie artist guy is actually going to somehow CAUSE the nuclear boom? Cuz I did.

ah, yes, emo-hair guy is a mimic! so he would also be able to see/draw the future if with junkie artist guy.
if sylar is claire's (adoptive) dad then why doesn't he eat her brainz? b/c his caring-father role seems to be a ruse. perhaps he's a henchman.

Yes. He reminds me of a creepy older brother of one of my friends from middle school. He never showered and ended up going to a juvenile detention center for beating up a girl in his class.

Anyway, I just caught up with all the episodes - first three were a little bland but set things up nicely and this last two were awesome!
The latest one is grebt - flying future Congressman and setting up connections and so on. Also, the less I see of documentary-voiceover Indian scientist and his art-school neighbour the better.
About cheerleader's dad - why clean out telepathic cop's memory over just 2 days but not his powers? I'm not sure if he's as devious as he seems. He might turn out to have been working with Chandra Suresh - we already know his research went into some pretty extensively.
I don't think Nikki's husband is a teleporter - it kinda seems like invisibility to me. The kid probably has powers too and keeping it a secret. He seems to know too much, but that could just as easily be due to him being a boy genius.

*wheelchair twist
This was a good episode, although I think it's weird they never adressed psychic cop pilot-from-LOST guy's freakout at the convenience store. Also was a little disappointed Hiro & Ando and DL & Micah didn't hook-up & travel together.
Prediction: that painting Peter is trying to get from Linderman (Isaac's painting) will tell them where Claire is (maybe a pic of her uniform w/ high school's name on it?). And I am warming up to Milo Ventiwhatever as an actor, based mostly on the dinner w/ press guy scene.
ps press guy seemed vaguely Benry LinusGale-esque, like the director said "talk like that new bad guy on LOST".

- white robed funeral on beach- accelerated introduction of new characters while leaving many mysteries unanswered
This episode was kind of slow but still very watchable. The whole Hiro/girl in diner/Sylar bit was really excellent (that kid that plays Hiro is awesome, I love him), and it's nice to finally understand a bit of what Cheerleader Dad Guy is all about. Also OMG waif-girl is apparently a mutant/whatever also! And it is so obvious new radiation guy is going to be involved in the big nucyoolar explosion. But what happened to Hiro, did he save that girl? And will Hott Indian Guy come back to America now, and will his dead sister come with him? And what is Isaac painting this time?
Hooray for fun show!

Also, how the hell does Cheerleader Dad Guy know that Sylar is going to attack his "daughter" at her Homecoming? Is he too a precog? WTF? And does he NOT want psychic cop guy on his side?
― stoked for the madness (nickalicious), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)
― c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)
I think he knows where Sylar has been, he knows the general direction Sylar is headed (both based on his attack pattern) and he knows, from the precog guy, that his daughter is going to be in harm's way at her school (I'm presuming there are visual clues in the paintings that allude to homecoming that I'm not remembering right now). The rest is desperate conjecture.
I like how they made you think Sylar and Cheerleader Dad were connected at the beginning, then started breaking them apart to seem like two competing-yet-almost-equally-sinister forces working against the protagonists. I can't wait until the end of the season when they tie them back together (my conjecture).

So hooray actually kind of exciting episode (Mohinder is SO BORING though)! Looking forward to Peter getting better at power-mooching (esp for now-inevitable Peter / Sylar rematch). I was thinking maybe possibly as he gets better he might be able to hold onto mooched powers indefinitely (making him perfect foil for power-collector Sylar). Loved the poetic justice of Jackie's death, that BITCH.
Kind of disappointed for lack of Hiro-time, also it seems he went back to before that girls powers had manifested. But wtf is he up to in present day/time? Why is he not there to meet Ando? And did Charlie (Ms. Learns-A-Lot) die anyway?
I didn't think I would ever cheer for Teh Haitian, but hey, it happened. Want more info though about waif-girl (for a waif-girl she's kind of got a gloriously huge ass) and her old jedi mind tricks.
Also, how pissed is Flying Petrelli going to be now? Peter has totally just lost him the election.
Also also, what happened to Radioactive Ted? It seems fairly obvious that Isaac's new painting is of him (or possibly Sylar after eating Ted's brain for Radioactive Man powers), not to mention that Radioactive Ted is going to have something to do with big dooKAHW in NYC.

Dr Invisible Who Man was fucking FANTASTIC! in this episode, am really looking forward to him/Peter Petrelli's Yoda/Luke training in the coming episodes. I love that he's all beer-gutty mangy-haired beardedly disheveled, this is what an invisible man would look like.
Also really looking forward to more of the other 2 new characters that were introduced in this ep (if you haven't seen it let's just say parents just don't understand - or maybe they REALLY DO understand).
I had a serious problem with the "previously on" thing at the beginning - they showed a fragment of a Peter Petrelli/Sylar scene that has never (yet) happened! Fuck that.
Next week's ep will probably be way better, this ep was waaaaay too slow for me.

I'm not sure how I felt about the finale, except that
Molly + Micah = cutest couple ever!!
― musically, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 06:15 (eighteen years ago)
And the new Heroes spinoff sounds great. The more Heroes, the better.
― musically, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 06:18 (eighteen years ago)
wtf, what a horrible season ender. I'm kind of baffled that they could end it so lamely (except for the Hiro epilogue, which was cool). I thought I read somewhere that they spent a shitload on effects for the final episode; where did that money go? NOTHING HAPPENED!
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 12:58 (eighteen years ago)
anyway next season better recover really well from this, and Peter and Nathan better not be dead, otherwise, who cares?
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)
Actually I kind of like that the overarching season arc was "the redemption of Nathan Petrelli". Also, if Peter is dead they are really, really really screwed when Sylar (or the thing in the sewer that ate Sylar) (!) comes back.
I also have to sy that I don't really care if Peter did actually die because he was Whiny McBlouse for most of the season and I thought practically every other character except maybe Isaac was more interesting.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)
What I can't figure is why Nathan needed to fly Peter into space. Peter can fly!
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)
did something eat sylar or did he just crawl into the sewer? it wasn't clear. although there obv is something else more evil, that's what the girl was saying she didn't like to think about (because he could see her when she saw him).
I'm assuming peter will be back because they've got to do something with the dead guy he used to take care of
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)
also, is eccleston coming back? I know they were trying to get him. WTF eccleston, King of One Series Then Off to Something Else
Hahaha yes.
Except for Hiro/Ando's hijinks and Claire jumping out a window, this season finale sucked!
― Roz, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)
I like how they used sound effects to let us know that Peter had mooched Nikki's power.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)
I thought about that - wouldn't that split him in half? Is there maybe now an evil Peter lurking around in mirrors? Maybe with a big facial scar?
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)
let's hope. OMG his mirror image = nathan lives!
― Roz, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)
from above: in the season finale superman comes in and reverses the rotation of the earth to prevent armageddon but it exhausts him so much he must rely on the lesser superheros to save the world, will they???? we wont know until next season.
this is almost what happened!
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)
Totally underwhelming.
When did Peter mooch Nikki's power? Was he using her fists o' steel to beat the hell out of Sylar? I didn't even notice.
I also don't understand why Claire couldn't shoot Peter, when we all know that he can come back to life. Why did they act as if he'd be dead permanently? Or yeah, why didn't Peter fly away on his own? Maybe he can only use one borrowed power at a time, but I think it's more likely that the writers don't know what they're doing.
― lindseykai, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)
The only two thing that annoyed me more than Peter not just taking off into space on his own:
Linderman. They set him up as the all powerful Ozymandias/deus ex machina character for 20 episodes and running. They get Malcolm McDowell to play him. They demonstrate his ability to heal all organic matter. He monologues about grand plans and the future, all so D.L. can punch him in the brain in his third episode? Really?
Candace: They spent at least 10 minutes of a recent episode implying that Candace (the illusion generating one) was actually fat, ugly/deformed, male or some mixture of those things, and that the Missy Peregrym exterior was merely how she chose to present herself.
So, Niki knocks her out and what do we get? Unconscious Missy Peregrym. Were they too cheap to pay for a fat extra or some scar makeup, or did they just forget that they had set that up?
The finale was, as everyone seems to agree, massively underwhelming and not at all worthy of the episodes that led up to it. I think they were building up to an Alan Moore in Watchmen, bomb actually goes off sort of finale, and NBC called them up and said "Oh no you don't. This is our only new hit show, you are going to do another season next fall and it will be EXACTLY like this season, Comprende?"
Still, up until the finale it really was quite good.
― Michael, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)
No way. They were NEVER going to nuke NYC. Not a chance in hell.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
I prefer these kinds of finales...cliffhanger finales make you spend your summer wondering about how a handful of specific events will unfold, which usually get resolved somehow in the first few eps of the following season, while finales such as this one make you think about about the show's events on a more broader scale. Maybe that's just me though.
― musically, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
I don't think the infrastructure need to deal with the complaint letters/emails/phone calls they'd get exists should they have decided to nuke nyc!
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)
Didn't 24 nuke - I forget - Louisville or some other major/minor burg this year? Of course, 24 is a totally different kind of show (I'm guessing, I never watched it.)
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)
I actually thought it was a great finale, rather than an eye-popping screaming big special fx blowout it was kind of emotional and dare I say subdued.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 19:17 (eighteen years ago)
I was disappointed however in that I swear NBC had run commercials claiming the finale was going to be 2 hours, and 2 hours it definitely wasn't (it looks to me like the last episode and this one were originally supposed to be one mega-ep, but were split I guess so the finale would be in sweeps week).
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)
I also don't understand why Claire couldn't shoot Peter, when we all know that he can come back to life.
yeah i wondered that also. pretty massive continuity problem there. also, agreed on the whole linderman anti-climax. this show suddenly seems very obviously written by the guy who made Crossing Jordon, sloppy and lame.
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
I thought Crossing Jordan guy was Carlton Cuse/L O S T.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)
I was wrong: Cuse did Brisco County Jr/Nash Bridges.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)
Peter would not be able to regenerate if his brain were damaged.
― jeff, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)
duh. she was going to shoot him where that piece of glass sylar shanked him with went.
Peter not flying on his own is a bit harder to explain.
I didn't mind the redemptive ending, but the sylar fight was very much lacking. If something did come up from the sewers and eat sylar, that'd be bad ass.
― bnw, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)
That'd be the thing that Molly said was worse than Sylar because if she thought of it not only could she see it but it could see her right back, yes?
(we had the "Tommy Lee Jones in Space Cowboys" ending sussed a while back but I appear to have not posted it on the interwebs)
― ailsa, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)
Also, even if Linderman is dead, I'm sure that the story of he and Mr. Petrelli in the War will be told, so he will almost certainly be back on the show next season.
― jeff, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)
Sylar was playing dead, seeing as he had just had a vision of what would happen. The cockroach on the manhole cover also seemed to suggest that Sylar escaped on his own.
― jeff, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)
The secret to this show is to realize that it's not a teleological narrative, and its strengths lie in the style and flair through which the stories are told. Non-comics readers might not be acclimated to this sort of though; comics, especially longform serial titles, are endless iterations of story arcs that oftentimes traffic in EPIC BATTLES FOR THE FATE OF THE WORLD, again and again, so by the time you've read a story where the world is saved after some monumental struggle for the nth time, you start to realize that the resolution is less important than how we got there. While I'm disappointed that there wasn't a gnarly setpiece between Sylar and the good guys, Heroes bypassed the very notion of a resolution-based episode -- and WAS FRAKKING AWESOME YOU DORKS -- to set up a new narrative iteration.
― Leee, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)
The shooting Peter thing still doesn't make sense. She could've just shot him in the chest. It would've killed him or at least caused him to lose conciousness, which stopped the hand-glowing earlier in the episode. Then they'd extract the bullet and he'd be fine.
― lindseykai, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)
I'm with Leee here, but then we are both on ILC. This was a very comics final episode. I can see the issues with Peter not flying off himself, plus we have to remember Ted could survive his own explosions so there's no reason Pete can't too - and then kills Nathan, well, he falls to the ground, so what - but this happens in comics all the time.
― aldo, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)
maybe it was intentionally inconsistent so people could get all Comic Book Guy about it
― akm, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
i agree with leeee too - i thought it was pretty awesome and weirdly sedated and kind of mystical. i am all about the time travel stuff and the space-time messed up narrative and character arcs - more!
i am already freaked out about whoever cutest-tracking-system-in-the-world is afraid of. ooh.

for a show that is actually kind of dumb, I've found it really confusing plot wise, actually
― jeff, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)
I think it's kind of hard to concentrate on your flying skills when you're about to explode. Dude needed help, needed his brother.
The shooting thing - the glass thing indicates that there's a part of the brain responsible for controlling regeneration. I think that whole plot was thrown in to show us that Pete and Claire can be destroyed - all hereos need a weak spot.
I loved the finale. How To Stop A Man Exploding was secondary to where the characters got to, and that there now seems to be a coherent group of them and plenty of possible nasties around the corner.
Sylar/Swampthing The evil that "sees" Holly Mama Petrelli hasn't shown us her power yet Linderman may heal 17th century Japanese dudes wtf

Linderman may heal
I read something somewhere that Linderman can't heal himself and/or can't bring the dead back to life.
― Leee, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)
Claire jumping out of the window was pretty great.
Doubly great was Sylar throwing the bullets back into mindreaders chest.
― Gukbe, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:43 (eighteen years ago)
> Claire jumping out of the window was pretty great.
Yeah, but Pappa Nate and Granny Petrelli deciding to let her get away was not explained at all, except to set up a future plot twist.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)
The episode was incredibly great except for the fact that D.L. lives. It means there will be more of that weirdly intense Shatner dad thing he does next season.
― petey_carnum, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:08 (eighteen years ago)
aw, everyone kinda bullied and piled onto poor Sylar at the end there. I hadn't felt that sorry for him since he was in Weezer.
― Kim, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 02:35 (eighteen years ago)
So its like totally obvious to everyone else that the ending of this season is dude with Rogue's powers is about to blow up NYC until his brother, finally coming to grips with his powers, grabs him and flies him up into the atmosphere, right? Or am I projecting? -- max (maxreax), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 00:08 (3 months ago) Link

Mama Petrelli hasn't shown us her power yet
shoplifting? weird that she goes from lonely bat who steals socks to power mad, kinda-evil-mom.
― Roz, Wednesday, 23 May 2007 07:13 (eighteen years ago)
I thought she could see through time - when Peter was able to go back to see his mum and Deveaux talking (and she couldn't see him, so it wasn't like Hiro's timetravel thing), I sort of took it that that was him leeching his mum's power. There was something she said that led me to believe she had been privy to things she shouldn't have been (i.e. popped up hanging around in the back of a room in the past).
Also, NOAH?!?!

yes, watched both these tonight (kinda distractedly) but enjoyed it. very slow buildup though, threads gradually coming together (would've been easy to make the first couple very wham bam, but they avoided that)
― koogs, Thursday, 26 July 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)
Really? I thought the opposite, that they were trying to overload on Stuff Happening which left hardly any room to develop the characters. One of the joys of Lost is that because it can be slow-moving plotwise they can really go for it with the characterisation, even early on.
Enjoyable load of old cobblers nonetheless, I'll definitely keep watching.

each episode has the production standards of a frickin movie, though, it must be insanely expensive to make. they built the international angle into it very well though; not just the characters and location but the plot and storytelling is very "international" - i bet the DVDs of this sell pretty well in india

OMG did you guys know VEROMICA MARSD is going to be on HEROES this seaqson!?!?
My predictions - Claire's 'alien' stalker is Sylar (or possibly the 'worse' thing the mind-reader cop's kid sidekick is having nightmares about), Maya is a werewolf or chupacabra, and the gimme: Hiro becomes his own Hero, Kenzai.
I dunno what I think of Midas Toblorowski yet.

I mean Toblorone.

― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)
it was okay... I actually feel like Claire and especially Hiro are the worst parts of the show. Hiro is just so cloying and his sub-plot looks like an episode of Xena. The new hispanic hero(es) seem interesting.
― bnw, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)
Hiro is awesome! I love his sense of wonder and excitment about everything. It's like all the sci-fi/superhero stuff he grew up reading is coming true and he's loving every minute of it.
Nathan Petrelli looks way weird with his square man-jaw undercover.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:10 (eighteen years ago)
Hiro is great but best in small doses. Him being stuck trying to fix history seems like a pretty crap diversion from whatever's going on in the present.
Still I'll take that over DL, Micah and Nikki who thankfully has not shown up yet. but they will soon.
― Roz, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 14:13 (eighteen years ago)
the bottom lip thing that peter does reminds me of someone but i can't think who

― jeff, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)
Nikki/Jessica may be my favorite character on the show. Definitely the most interesting, power-wise (at least up until the introduction of Anyeurism Girl yesterday).
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:39 (eighteen years ago)
Dan, how can you say that?? Nobody's powers are inherently interesting on this show.
― Leee, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)
The whole split personality thing is interesting. The girl who was warping people's perceptions was also interesting right up until the point where she was revealed to actually be a total sexpot and not old and dumpy as previously alluded to.
Peter is interesting but he's also a whiny douche. Nathan appears poised to take over that role now that Peter is missing. HRG and Claire are awesome; Hiro and Ando go in waves. The cop and the locator girl are kind of non-entities. DL was awesome and so is Micah.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 17:58 (eighteen years ago)
I actually like the cop guy. His power is limited so it keeps him grounded and vulnerable. Peter starring in the Bourne identity I am already meh about from the preview. Hopefully he is really unstable and melts a bunch of irish guys.
― bnw, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
The accents in the Irish scene were, um, let's be gentle and say 'sporadic.'
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)
I am curious how Alejandro's presence can keep Maya from exploding everyone's brains. Also I am enjoying the Hiro story and am curious what British dude/"Kensai"s power(s) is/are.
Also, if I heard them right, there are 9 left of whoever Hiro's daddy & mom & dad Petrelli & Linderman's group were. Does anyone think the guy who attacked Hirodad at the end was British "Kensai", who might be a) immortal or b) also a time traveler?
Also...<i>The accents in the Irish scene were, um, let's be gentle and say 'sporadic.'</i>...THIS IS SOMETHING I WAS GOING TO POST.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

― Roz, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)
He drinks alone in a bar and is haunted by a disfigured version of himself. Who is this vision and what is the symbolism behind his horrible disfigurement?
Beeman says it was Nathan's, but then does a 540-degree turn and leaves the identity of the pizza-face open-ended, and also shows why he's a director and not a writer.

NBC seizes on Nielsen rule change New rule sets off furor among networks By MICHAEL LEARMONTH, JOSEF ADALIAN, MICHAEL LEARMONTH Talk Back - post a comment With the fall season just two days old, the networks are already fighting over ratings.
Rival webs are accusing NBC of pulling a fast one by taking advantage of a new Nielsen rule that lets nets combine the ratings for multiple runs of a show -- and then report them as one supersized number.
Peacock decided to do just that with Monday's episode of "Heroes." Seg will be repeated Saturday night, and the numbers for both broadcasts will be counted as one when Nielsen releases final numbers Oct. 2.
What's more, the Saturday repeat won't be counted in NBC's weekly averages. Given how poorly most of the nets perform on Saturdays these days, the rule change means the Peacock gets to eliminate what will likely be one of its least-watched hours -- while simultaneously inflating the average audience for "Heroes."
Peacock's actions are all legit, per Nielsen. But that doesn't make them completely kosher, rivals argue.
"Theoretically, (NBC is) doing nothing wrong," said ABC research chief Larry Hyams. "But morally, they're playing with the weekly averages. ... You could see where this could lead to abuse."
NBC research guru Alan Wurtzel said the net has no plans to repeat the "Heroes" multiplay strategy in the near future, calling it a one-time-only situation with this particular broadcast.
Net chose to report the numbers this way because it had a deal with Nissan to serve as the sole sponsor of the season premiere of "Heroes," making it easy to test the new rule. (Nielsen requires nets to air the exact same commercial load in each broadcast in order to qualify for the cume rating.)
Nonetheless, Wurtzel said it's only a matter of time before cume ratings become the norm.
"The notion that there is a one-time play and one-time exposure (for a show) is simply obsolete," he said. "In a couple of years (overnight ratings for single broadcasts) are going to be so retro, it's going to be like household ratings. Nobody will pay attention to them anymore."
But NBC's decision to test out the new rule so suddenly, without any warning, is likely to tick off rivals even more.
"The fact that it took place during premiere week and at the last second indicates it's more about gamesmanship for premiere week rather than making a definitive change in the way they're selling the medium," one rival exec said.
Rule change also caught ad agencies by surprise just as they were preparing to analyze Monday night's premiering shows.
"They didn't ask us," said Shari Anne Brill, director of programming for Carat Americas. "They are doing this at the behest of the networks -- this is not something the agencies want."
With the change, agencies will have to wait until October to get the cumulative number from both airings, and they may never get detailed numbers from the 9 p.m. hour unless NBC decides to release them.
Agency sources said the change will make it difficult to compare the preems of Fox's "K-Ville" or CBS' "Two and a Half Men" with that of the NBC show.
"I think it's outrageous," said Magna Global senior veep of audience analysis Steve Sternberg. "If they want to sell the commercial inventory on a Monday episode and a Saturday repeat, that's fine. I still want to see the Monday ratings and the Saturday ratings."
Wurtzel said NBC wasn't trying to be sneaky.
"This is a rule Nielsen put into play this summer. This should surprise no one," he said. "Anyone who keeps up with the Nielsen client information notices would know about this. Every single agency knew about this, or should have known about it."
But CBS Corp. chief research officer David Poltrack said the NBC move did seem a bit sudden.
"We knew it was an option, so in a sense it didn't take us by surprise," he said. "The only thing that did take us by surprise is that they did it at the last second."
While NBC says it's not planning to make a habit of using Nielsen's new rule, some worry about a future where nets do just that. Rivals are already annoyed that NBC doesn't air commercials during the first half-hour of its Sunday NFL coverage (a pre-game show) -- thus eliminating one of its lowest-rated half-hours.
"You can't look at a show's ratings the way we used to," Hyams said, noting that year-to-year comparisons suddenly become impossible.
What's more, shows that might have been in the top 25 could end up in the top 10 if a net airs them enough times. NBC could even air a show like "Heroes" on Sci Fi Channel and -- as long as it aired the same ads in the same pattern -- Nielsen would count the run in the show's cume average.
"The scorecard in the press can now be manipulated more easily than in the past," Hyams said.
Indeed, to poke fun at NBC's move, CBS issued a press release Tuesday calling its own "Rules of Engagement" the No. 1 reported program in its time period -- since Nielsen will never officially release the "Heroes" Monday-only average, though the number was widely distributed Tuesday by other nets as part of routine Nielsen-based press release info.
And Hyams noted that the Nielsen rule has some other inherent flaws. ABC, for example, can't repeat its hit Sunday shows, since Nielsen requires shows to repeat in the same week in order to qualify for the cume number, and Sunday is the end of the Nielsen week.
"There are inequities to this," Hyams said.
For its part, Nielsen cast the move as an attempt to normalize primetime ratings with syndication, which is reported on a cumulative basis, and cable, which increasingly uses cume numbers for multiple airings of the same show.
Nielsen also said the move would allow stations with a digital multicast channel to report cume audiences -- an essential step in the digital age.
"We know things are changing rapidly in the way people watch television and the way our clients are selling advertising," said Nielsen spokeswoman Anne Elliot.

cut them some slack... nbc just wants to report cume audiences
― jeff, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)
cume on nielsens
It's like Dexy's Midnight Runners, only different!
― J, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:33 (eighteen years ago)
The four months later (four hundred years before) jump did not leave as many unanswered questions as I thought it would, which means the "four months before" episode in a couple of months will be a bit naff.
Biggest let down was probably psychic cops divorce. I can se ehow it happened (he did just fuck off and get shot), but then the insto family of Molly and Suresh fills an odd hole.
Most disturbing moment was tounge on tounge kiss with HRM and Mr Muggles.
Worst acting, OIRISH ACCENTS ALERT.
But enough to keep me going. And whilst Hiro is great, it is also great that he seems to have an extra power of being sucker punched perfectly.
― Pete, Thursday, 27 September 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)
I just hope the Hiro thing doesn't become anymore like a Back to the Future plot of "Oh noes, my existence here has changed history, I have to fix it!"
― Jeff, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)
We still haven't seen how robust the time travel they are using in Heroes is but I doubt it will change anything in the present day series.. Remember on Save The Cheerleader, the future Hiro went to Claire was still alive but in hiding. (The scarred Nathan Petrelli vs beardy Nathan may well be the whole timeline trying to sort itself out).
One assumes that Hiro is going to put right all the things that have gone wrong (or more likely become Kensai) - bear in mind his "what if I step on a bug" comment from the picture with the dinosaur. I'm sure its a short term Hiro plot.
― Pete, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)
Whoever said up there^ that Hiro is going to end up being his own hero is, I suspect, absolutely right.
Anyway, enjoyed it. When I was watching it I thought beardy Nathan was in fact Peter, and his looking in the mirror was a rare slip of whatever shape-changing power he was using. (Because he thought turning up as Peter might have raised too many questions?) I then thought maybe he'd absorbed Nessica's power and Peter was trapped in the mirror waiting to get out. I was wrong though, I guess.
I hope we get Emo Petrelli vs alt.country Petrelli FITE at some point.

― aldo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)
Rewatched it last night and I picked up so many more hints and enjoyed it more. Really this episode is a setup for the whole "The Company" conspiracy they'll play this season.
The opening scene in the plaza with Mr. Nakamura and Ando, it was bearded Nathan that ran into Ando... at the same time did a paper switch to give him the picture of death. Same deal almost exactly before Nathan's own mother gets the picture of death. And when Mr. Nakamura is killed, only one body is on the ground. So turns out Nathan is working for the company, or whoever is calling hits on the final nine. I'd venture to guess that he really is horribly disfigured, and the organization is using some kind of Candice distorting reality power to hide his disfigured face. Hiro is going to realize he must make Kensei into a hero in order to preserve history, so it will be an interesting dynamic with Hiro making this anti-hero guy into a hero. Also weird high school flying crush of Claire's sounds like he's recruiting for the company. I think that will play out into a good Father/Daughter/Boyfriend storyline.
This show!
― petey_carnum, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)
i liked it! esp highschool catiness and symbol mystery and final scene
― rrrobyn, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)
Cos what I can't work out is why is Nathan still alive. He was not indestructible so Peter's explosion should have killed him. So Nathan could be Sylar (did Sylar meet shape changey girl?) Was it disfigured Nathan, or disfigured Sylar?
Where is Nathan's wife. Kids. ELECTORATE?
― Pete, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)
Hmmm, there's a lot to like about the Nathan = Sylar conjecture, although I can't figure what his angle might be, or why he's so grumpy about it.
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)
Started working for the company and is the one who put Emo Petrelli in the container.
― aldo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
Other thing I want to know is, what is Petrelli Mom and George Takei's powers and what other old ex Sci0Fi TV codgers ar ethey going to get to play the other "eight". We know that Takei had links with the Company, so its possible that this is what the previous generation set up, which then went bad. Loose enough to go anywhere that stuff.
― Pete, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)
Unpsectacular but very solid opener, I thought. It's never really been a show that does major "stand-out" episodes, anyway.
I can't believe Nathan's mom/Cherie Blair actually pulled out the "if it wasn't for you meddling kids ruining my plans" line.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)
<i>what other old ex Sci0Fi TV codgers ar ethey going to get to play the other "eight" </i>
Lt Uhura, right?
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)
Martin Landau, I reckon. Robert Vaughn or David McCallum. Any one of Patrick MacNee/Honor Blackman/Diana Rigg/Linda Thorson. Tom Baker (although arguably Colin looks older).
― aldo, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)
Cos what I can't work out is why is Nathan still alive. He was not indestructible so Peter's explosion should have killed him.
Nathan could have gotten him up in the atmosphere high enough to drop him and fly away really fast. Not dead, but serious nuke burn victim. I don't think he is Sylar at all. But he's working for the company and *knows* Peter is still alive because he turned him over to the company himself to be Haitianized and exiled. It seems to me that Molly is now the Isaac Mendez stand-in. She's drawing the symbol between the eyes "mark of death" and basically predicting these special's deaths, with the last drawing in the sequence being her own death. Really the more I think about this episode the more I like it.

― max r, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
As usual, Claire rhymes with care, which is appopriate, because she's just about the only character on the show I care about. Okay, the Hiro stuff is pretty decent, too, considering how utterly predictable it is.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)
I liked Angela Petrelli freaking out and the toe-cutting but otherwise it was kind of meh.
― Roz, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)
I was kind of hoping Claire had the virus!
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)
As I asked on the ilcomix thread: Clair can grow a new toe, like a lizard. But can her toe grow a new Clair, like a starfish?
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)
My roommate walked out on the show in disgust when it became apparent that Peter has amnesia. He said it's a dealbreaker plot device.
I thought it was kid of dull, too, though I laughed at some of the Hiro lunacy.
― dan m, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)
ok - the toe scene was something else!

You might want to point out to your roomie that the Haitian is a memory eraser.

oooh good point

Dude, <i>Heroes</i>'s middle name is plot device!
But can her toe grow a new Clair, like a starfish?
― Leee, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)
Plot device and cheese.
I am a little bored of the Hiro subplot. the Kensei scenes seemed really forced. There was no real suspense either when white dude got arrowed, the whole healing bit after that was just kinda anticlimactic.
― Roz, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)
omg how awesome would it be if the toe grew into an evil Claire and that's the shadowy figure we see rolling up on HRG in the previews for next week
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)
Almost as awesome as Nathan's beard being Peter's missing memory!
― Leee, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)
two hayden panettieres? that would keep the perves happy.
― Roz, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 18:44 (eighteen years ago)
peter can beat sylar's ass down, survive nuclear explosion, etc... cannot stop fake irish dude 5 feet away from him from dropping a box. oh kay.
― bnw, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)
Sounds about right, though! The big secret to Peter is that he is a gigantic pussy.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)
okay the toe thing was awesome
― rrrobyn, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)
and i'm digging that hiro is going to be a costumed superhero!
or that he was. and might be again. not so into him being sidekick with no glory
― rrrobyn, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)
But that he has control over his power to the point that he can be as witty about it as he was? That was just awesome.
And the Hatian being back in the show is great, too - he's been one of my favorites since he first appeared. What about Parkman's wife? Wasn't she preggers? Will we meet the kid? And I LOVE how they have continued the arc of him using his powers in the job setting - pretty great.
This show will keep me watching, until it gives a real reason for me not to.
I do not like the repeated Sylar appearances in the previews, though. Show him, or don't. Don't tease me.
― B.L.A.M., Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:19 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i thought it was kind of lame that peter couldn't just take the book, but i'm wondering if because of the memory wipe he can't really control his powers, he's forgotten how? so maybe they only come to him when he's really agitated or in a fight type position?
― M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)
You could just not watch the teasers, like me!
Parkman getting shouted out of Ma Petrelli's mind = harbinger of psychic boners to come? Because he was all Captain Obvious about letting her know that he was snooping in there.
Don't blame Peter. I forgot that he had TK, and I'm not the one with amnesia.
― Leee, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)
OK, we are far enough in to series two now to ask some serious questions about the show.
Molly and My Two Dads. Er - how? Or at least how did they get her enrolled to school and why do the company not know where she is? Since she is asset number 1, you'd think she would be worth loads of Mohinder's.
Does Mexico really guard its Guatemalan borders? And spontaneous goth make-up should not be deadly.
Where did Nathan find that beard?
Hm, Emo Petrelli vs a box being burnt. One would think that any of thirty ways he could have stopped The Devil's Own. If he even cares. oiPods be damned.
― Pete, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)
I just found out the guy who plays Claire's doofy-looking boyfriend is 27. Jesus. And I thought emo petrelli looked young for 30.
― Roz, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)
doofy-looking boyfriend
WAHT? The guy follows her after she tells him to fuck off repeatedly, and he peeks on her through her bedroom window. I really don't think boyfriend is the word you're looking for.
― Oilyrags, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)
put it this way, i would have also referred to Claire's previous doofy-looking boyfriend as her doofy-looking boyfriend, even though that guy was most likely gay.
and flying dude might be creepy as fuck but come on, the way it's going they're totally gonna start making out in a few episodes' time.
― Roz, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)
Also their current relationship matches about 50% of the high school bf/gf relationships I remember in my school.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)
Does that include severed extremities (that may or may not later take on lives of their own) and flight?
I still think he's Sylar or worse, btw.
― Oilyrags, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
i'm thinking that Guatemalan goth eyes lady is the one who's been spooking Molly. i like the twins' symbiotic power. i wonder if the brother can do anything on his own.
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)
I was thinking more "guy follows girl around for no discernable reason beyond 'lol boobs'" but I wouldn't have been surprised if self-mutilation was in there somewhere.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)
worse, maybe. But definitely not Sylar. Dan probably closest to the truth there.
― Roz, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)
the one thing that makes me think maybe yeah, he's Sylar, is the flying thing. seems unlikely that the writers would repeat the same superpower as Nathan has without a calculated reason for doing so.
― Kim, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)
maybe he doesn't fly, maybe he has density control over his body, he can just float up like balloon
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)
Sylar can fly? I mean, in a non "Five Years Later" continuity.
― Leee, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)
telekinesis dude
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)
My theory goes like this - Sylar eats illusion-girl's brain, gains her powers. Puts two and two together with Noah and Clair (doesn't he already know this, though? I forget.) Figuring Noah is his best shot at finding more brains, he insinuates himself into Clair's affections...
Oh shit. I was relying on his ability to fly coming from eating Natebrains. I may have to give this up.
But that reminds me of something else - one development we haven't discussed yet is the duplicate powers thing. Kensei is a healer like Clair, and doofy is a flyer like Nathan. So far, the only way we've seen for two people to get the same power is Sylarlicious and Peterleeching. Now we've got a slight implication that there are only so many different flavors of power (or at least not all powers are unique.)
Just rambling on a slow day at work, don't mind me too much.
― Oilyrags, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:32 (eighteen years ago)
that gets at the root issue of why I think this might all start imploding by the end of the season, the more it becomes one long exposition of different people and their weird abilities the more it becomes a little too much for anybody but the most dedicated geek to keep in mind from one week to another
― El Tomboto, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)
Graphic novel pretty much indicates that West is not Sylar. and that it's possible that his power is controlling wind rather than flying.
― Roz, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)
maybe Nathan has more illegitimate children around! that would be pretty cliche though... Claire and dude start dating and ooops, it's gross cause they're all brother and sister but not knowing it! lol.
― Kim, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)
I remember Sylar having creepy disappearing power, but not necessarily flying. The fake out Sylar teasers make it clear to me that he's being held captive ala the Matrix ala Candice or someone like her. Although... after this last episode I've given up trying to guess the writer's direction.
West and Claire are going to romance, and then get into superpower breakup fites.
― petey_carnum, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)
hmmm - a guy what can fly boinking a girl what can heal herself instantly. so many wrong things can come of this.
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)
True true, if people insist on parsing the show as anything other than a string of tenuously connected spectacles.
one development we haven't discussed yet is the duplicate powers thing.

dunno about you man but i'm pretty much losing interest in every character on this show now except possibly claire bear/hrg. xpost
― Roz, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)
I'm quite cheered by the prospect of 90 angry ronin, actually. Should I not be?
― Laurel, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)
I understand, Roz, but I think Yankton Cocksucker turned King Midas has good villain potential.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)
speaking of HRG, doofy kid: "I'll never forget him... THE MAN IN THE HORN-RIMMED GLASSES".
I know Heroes isn't exactly subtle but nggggh....

― Roz, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)
i think that was claire's car..
the writing is kind of letting me down these past couple of episodes.
although LOL "Lightning!... Lightning!... Sparks!..." wtf Peter open the box you dumbshit.
Sylar is still in the matrix I think.
― petey_carnum, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)
blatant product placement aside but wasn’t Claire’s car that was stolen the same make and mode? Coincidence?

― HI DERE, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)
By the way I just remember that I laughed SO HARD when Sylar cut Peter's head open and they cut to drops of blood on the floor...and then that ANNOYING LOCK OF HAIR FALLS like ahahahahha FINALLY someone gave Saddo a haircut and it has to be a character I hate?!??
― Laurel, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)
*forelock* THUD.
hehe yeah that was among the best moments of season 1.
― Roz, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)
OK, its really spinning its wheels now. Nothing in the entire episode about the death of Hiro's Dad mystery. Clare's new boyfriend is seriously annoying, and the return of her glowering with a secret over HRG is frankly pointless.
And what exactly are the symptoms of this illness that they have? They all want cures, none of them seem to have THAT much wrong with them. And what was the point of the Haitian turning up last week, if we weren't going to see him this week? Whilst I am pleased they rushed the Hiro in the past story, it hasn't ended (and since we all know its going to go all Highlander on our arse again what is the point). Again the point please of Peter doing the robbery and then not opening the box.
AND PINKY's SPORTSBOOK? WHAT THE FUCK? Do some research (as bad as lobsters on the pier in Lost, which is where Sylar appears to be).
― Pete, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)
I think they got the package. Now Heroes just needs Slyvester, Rufus, Chuck and Twan.

you mean to tell me that a sword that had OPEN ME in big letters on the bottom went through 500 years of collectors holding it without anyone bothering to see what was inside
― webber, Thursday, 11 October 2007 07:09 (eighteen years ago)
It said "open me Ando".
Collectors are very polite and respectful of Ando's privacy, DUH.
― en i see kay, Thursday, 11 October 2007 07:24 (eighteen years ago)
Duh, clearly Hiro jumped forward in time to just before he got the sword, wrote open me Ando on it, and jumped back to his emo adventures. Heroes is not about the retcon after all. (Except Fat Candice, who wasn't fat last time she got knocked out).
So when is Slyar going to meet up with the Lost posse?
(Actually, I doubt Candice is dead, or indeed that he attacked her. The island is still part of an illusion. If you were sharing cabin space with a mass murderer and you could spread an illusion that you where not where you appeared to be, surely you'd do it as a matter of course.)
― Pete, Thursday, 11 October 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)
Is the last episode online yet? All they seem to have for week 4 is episode 123 ("How to Stop an Exploding Man"), which AFAICT, is just the last episode from last year. I was hoping to catch up before tomorrow night.

― Leee, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)
the dialogue has always been terrible, i think it's kind of charming. I'm not even really sure why this episode seems better than the previous ones but it might have something to do with the pacing, the fact that *things* are happening and it's not just the characters sitting around whining.
Or maybe I'm just happy Nathan shaved off the beard.
― Roz, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)
I just watch this show for the hot dudes.
― Yerac, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)
Missy Peregrym (Candice) is on a show called Reaper now. This is why Candice was played a different actress in that episode, and why they promptly and unceremoniously killed her off.
― Michael, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)
it was entertaining last season. it is dreadful now. the flying boyfriend sucks. the aunt sucks. the pay per view cousin and burger bonanza girl suck. hattori hanso sucks. matt parkman is a big fat asshole.
the only characters still worth watching are peter (not even in this episode), nathan (better with beard), and sylar (best character at this point).
― cutty, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

Are they repeating powers now? Another person who can fly, another person who can learn things without even trying...and Claire's bf is most obnoxious character of them all. Yuck.
― musically, Tuesday, 16 October 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)
i kinda have to go with cutty on this season so far - too much obnoxious not enough weird - just b/c yr lighting is dark does not mean yr show is 'dark'! i like the mexican brother and sister but maybe only b/c they are still a bit of a mystery
learning-from-tv superpower is the superpower for me
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 03:39 (eighteen years ago)
cutty is RITE. the show is unbearable now. the little girl stuff was especially painful. even unconscious, she was still terrible. the novelty is gone, the wooden dialogue remains, and the effort to hook the teenage girl viewers w/ omg flying boy kissies <3 is further excruciating.
― bnw, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)
Claire's bf is most obnoxious character of them all. Yuck.
I agree with this. I hope HRG totally freaks him out when they finally meet.

― carne asada, Thursday, 18 October 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)
I guess I'm alone in this but the Parkman/Molly storyline is my favorite as of now. Although I am generally very forgiving for shitty dialogue, this exchange between Parkman and Nathan Petrelli really bothered me: "how did you know all that?"..."the same way I know you could fly"...oh, you mean when you SAW him fly in last season's finale? FFS. Maybe he got Haitianed though.
I love the Haitian; he's an interesting, compelling character, as well as an excellent weak plot point recover line. Someone should remember something? Blame the Haitian!
I found Micah's cousin's story almost completely unwatchable, for one it was so shittily and panderingly written (there's ratings in them tharr Katrina victims). However that whole thing where Micah apparently learned something by touching his cousin? Very intriguing!
Also I did appreciate the set-up with the twins & Sylar. He's obviously got the virus and I assume won't be able to Sylar them until he gets cured. And the one guy with the cure is Suresh. If we didn't see Clairebear again all season just so this story would get more air-time, that would be at least a start in the right direction.
― nickalicious, Thursday, 18 October 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

― Yerac, Thursday, 18 October 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 18 October 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)
As long as I draw breath, nickalicious u'll never be alone on Parkman/Molly plot! It is teh cute! Except when he's emotionally blackmailing her into finding BogeyDad.
West's haircut is urgent & key to maintaining the show's streak of unfortunate hair growth.
― Leee, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
it's fucking my two dads with suresh and parkman
― cutty, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
re: Parkman/Nathan conversation
yeah, even if Parkman didn't see Nathan fly (cause he was shot four times), surely someone else (Suresh/Molly/HRG) would've mentioned it to him. Nathan's whole story bothers me actually - are we supposed to believe that it only takes four months for an elected congressman to go totally incognito? weird that there's no press interest in his drinking or his missing brother and now his mother being arrested for homicide and after they spent half of season 1 showing nathan trying to manage his public image.
― Roz, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)
I'm starting to realize that Heroes is just Smallville with a larger cast and budget. Claire and west's conversation on their date sounded way too familiar and then it hit me that it sounded exactly like any given Clark-Lana dialogue. It's totally unsurprising that the same bunch of guys worked on both shows - just as schmaltzy, the same humongous plotholes and bad dialogue, but still embarrasingly watchable. (I don't know what it's like now though, I stopped watching Smallville three years ago.)
― Roz, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)
you say weird, I say sloppy and lazy
Heroes has read its own press and grown complacent. Also, Adrian Pasdar seriously needs more to do.
― rogermexico., Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

― jeff, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
Actually I think the best part of season 2 might be the deathweeping and retract the deathweeping twins and the Sylar hitchhike. It's gonna be hilarious when they roll into "Costa Verde" California and Claire is all OMG that's my car gimme and Sylar is all lol mebe I finally eat ur brain now and Maya is like all this is scary boohoo and then everyone dies.
― nickalicious, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:35 (eighteen years ago)
I love how Parkman is like the average shlub of the superheroing world. They should've made him a janitor. Psychic janitor; always knows when he needs a mop.
― nickalicious, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)
lol nickalicious, heroes would be a much better show if you wrote all the dialogue.
― Roz, Thursday, 18 October 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)
I've got a little story for you. I know this guy who started watching the show last year thought the first couple episodes were complete BUTT because of horrible pacing, stilted dialogue, meandering arcs, enormous plot holes, and general implausibility. But two WEIRD things happened at the same time; although it began ineptly, the show grew by leaps and bounds once it found a useful excuse (FIGHTING Sylar!) for ginchy spectacles infused with cornball glee, which my friend learned to stop worrying about and love the cheese.
Oh, and you know what? My friend, he... was................ MEEE!
― Leee, Friday, 19 October 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)
leee otm, the start from last season was garbage just like this one and i didn't get hooked until mid-season when an actual plot materialized. however, i don't know why the writers got lazy and let it happen again this season... i'm hoping things will pick up when a story materializes and the bloated character roster gets slimmed down with some killing. there's not much time for crappy dialogue when everyone's screaming and getting debrained and all that.
― petey_carnum, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:03 (eighteen years ago)
The start of last season's was great, you guys are crazy.
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:05 (eighteen years ago)
I hated this show the 1st three eps, then it grew on me. The dialogue is for crap, but it's a COMIC, so it's written in COMIC book style (bad writing and obvious comments). I am disappointed by this seasons eps, but admit I have not looked at the Net for the summer filler info. Co-worker says it's key to understandning this season knowing what happened off the tube. I am thinking that the new charaters with same powers as others - i.e. flying, have to be related genetically don't you think? I'm gonna keep Tivoing it in hopes that it improves.
WTF is up with ancient Japanese warriors tho?
― Wiggy Woo, Friday, 19 October 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)
. I am thinking that the new charaters with same powers as others - i.e. flying, have to be related genetically don't you think?
Problematic, given that The Cheerleader is the daughter of Flight Brother Number One and is smoochin' on Flight Brother Number Two.
he dialogue is for crap, but it's a COMIC, so it's written in COMIC book style (bad writing and obvious comments)
That's a major cop-out, esp. given that many comix are actually written quite well.
― rogermexico., Friday, 19 October 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)
Many comics are written well, but more comics weren't, particular from the Silver Age, which is sort of where Heroes gets its sensibilities. In fact, it's not limited to comics -- the entire show has a distinct late '60s/early '70s vibe just from its cast of guest stars: the OG Trek alums, Malcolm McD, Dr. Who.

Last night's ep was enough to hook me back in - I had strayed for a few eps.
Chuck is alright - I like the female leads, both his sister and his handler - but his bearded friend and the male FBI agent are a bit tiresome. Chuck himself is pretty awesome, though.
Meh - I'm tired. I've got to get more sleep. Thank GOD JourneyMan isn't any good, despite Anthony Michael Hall being the awesome.

meh, still not a lot happening. I liked the Parkman / Nathan / Nightmare Dad plot. Parkman is two-way telepathic now?
jumprope? great way to throw away a potentially cool scene...
There's still too many characters doing a whole lot of nothing in my opinion. I don't doubt that the plot and budget will start expanding geometrically mid-season though. It just seems like the creators are treading water with this storyline right now.

― Lingbert, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)
Leave Micah alone, he's special.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 24 October 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)
I was gonna say mutual criticism of american tv is no basis for a successful marriage, but I suspect there are thousands who could prove otherwise.
Micah's 'hooray face' was more wince inducing than any mangled cheerleader scene.

It's like they're daring me to keep watching, just to see how bad and pointless it can get.
― Oilyrags, Thursday, 25 October 2007 02:57 (eighteen years ago)
The Peter & Irish Bar Wench storyline is basically the worst written thing I've seen on primetime American television in recent memory.
― Clay, Thursday, 25 October 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)
Also the Hiro in feudal Japan with His Boyhood Idol LOL storyline is basically the laziest written thing I've seen on primetime American television in recent memory.

I keep expecting the irish bar wench to start talking about welch's grape juice.
― Yerac, Thursday, 25 October 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)
Best episode this season, where are you doubters.
― Leee, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:01 (eighteen years ago)
Definitely; I like that it actually feels like this season has been going somewhere all of a sudden.
I hadn't thought about it until THIS ep but Parkman's going to come back and go into Molly's nightmare after her, rescuing her and exploring his (kinda exciting!) new realms of ability in the process.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)
I don't think Sylar is ever actually going to be able to get Maya's ability; as soon as he goes Wii telekinesis trauma center on her brain she will freak out and he will die. What's more entertaining is that he's so hungry for her power that he won't realize it until he's tried.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)
It will work if he eats the brother first.
I still hate Peter.
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

― nickalicious, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)
disqualified from best episode by 'omg we so used r powerz to scare the cheerleader'

I keep seeing the name Adam Monroe and thinking this guy: http://www.parlayer.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/adam_morrison.jpg
Also, I wanted to get this prognostication well and announced.
― Leee, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)
alright who suddenly made Heroes awesome again?
― Roz, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)
i think it just couldn't have gone wrong after they did that first menacing close-up of HRG with him being all russian bond villain. heroes is best when they are totally hamming it up.
somebody smack the shit out of claire's stupid boyfriend.
― Roz, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know, this season is annoying me - this wk's ep had some good stuff going on but could've been a lot better - too scattered for me, nothing to hang on to
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)
maybe it does need more ham
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)
to hang on to
At least they found the damned Isaac Mendes paintings and can at least attempt to get back to the comic booky charm it had last season.
SERIES OF EIGHT
It seems a few of these happened already; Claire lying "dead" on the stairs, Kaito dead, is the blonde woman banging on the door/whatever Nikki or Veronica Mars? Does Mohinder shoot HRG or are they not so closely related as all that?
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)
I think that's Peter with the scar on his face; didn't he have a scar in the future episode?
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 15:49 (eighteen years ago)
I love how murderous Sylar is that he just couldn't stick his head out of the car and yell stfu you guys, we're americans!
― Roz, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)
also lol:
"it was the kiss that fractured time"
*romantic music cuts out*
Ando: ?!?
― Roz, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)
I was just reading some of the graphic novels and in Maya y Alejandro it is suggested that Maya's mutation is that she is a carrier of a virus; while it seems obvious after Mohinder's comment about the Shanti virus that it is the source of the future epidemic, I am wondering now if that is a ruse and the real threat to humanity is Maya (or probably Sylar via Maya's ability), maybe? Surely the writers for this show aren't that clever.
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)
Surely the writers for this show aren't that clever. Of this, we can be absolutely certain.
Pretty good ep, cheerleader stuff notwithstanding.

My wife and I were discussing how, instead of being called "Heroes", this show should be called "Pussies" except it would be unfair to the female characters (and Sylar).
― HI DERE, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)
and david anders! i'm so glad the kensei story was not a complete waste of time. and as soon as he blew up, i knew he was gonna turn out to be adam monroe.
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)
i hear this season is gonna end early due to the wga strike.
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

― carne asada, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)
Nope, Origins was scrapped due to falling ratings.

as soon as he blew up, i knew he was gonna turn out to be adam monroe.
really? really honestly and truly? maybe i wasn't paying attention because it caught me totally off guard, and I even saw the guy wearing modern clothes in the ad.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, I admit that totally caught me by surprise.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)
yes honestly truly. because healers who blow up can come back - they were hinting as much with peter's whole storyline and then when kensei said to hiro that he'll do everything to fuck his life up, well that just made sense after that.
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)
so how do we think he got to the present? has he managed to time travel somehow, or does his invulnerability include not-aging/dying?
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)
btw this revelation caused me for the first time this season to desperately want to watch the next episode right away, something that was happening nearly every week last season.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)
yeah i think he can't die, he just regenerates.
and otm about this ep actually making me can't wait to see the next one. it looks like a good one too - the four months ago storyline.
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)
hai guys, I know I've been a butty nagging dumbbot on this thread, but I called the Kensei/Hiro fall-out and subsequent Kensei-as-the-season's-heavy-because-he-put-hoes-before-bros by the third episode.
What are the odds that Jessica has the cure for what ails Niki?

― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)
Oh haha highlander shit, cutty beat me to it.
Parkman is a dream warrior now a la Nightmare on Elm Street, uh, 6? Whichever one had the dream warrior nerds that all died.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)
As much as I like the Monroe reveal, it was painfully obvious.
― jeff, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah apparently they are filming a different ending to ep 11 in case the WGA strike goes on so that it can serve as the season 2 finale.
that was nightmare on elm street part 3.
― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)
Thanks cutty!

Dear Angela Petrelli,
Tell us/show us what your fucking power is already. And while you're at it, tell us what you did. This is getting ridiculous now.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)
slept with adam monroe and nathan is his son which explains why claire can heal.
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)
didn't angela bring a plant back to life or am i confusing this shows convolutions?
― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)
vapezilla, surely
― sanskrit, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:09 (eighteen years ago)
the plant thing was linderman... I wondered why future peter's flashbacks didn't include that his mom was a biatch. and did hiro's dad ever show a power?
and Leee, your ability to see into future plotlines would be more amazing were it not for the giant flag Kensei was holding at the end of season 1.
please god, kill the cheerleaders boyfriend.
― bnw, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)
I don't think mom Petrelli was a bitch to PETER though. He was her golden boy.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)
My mom is all in love with West, I think her infatuation is clouding her judgement wrt the probability that he is going to die hard and dead; their whole romance feels more like a not carefully constructed plot point rather than actual romance. In fact all the new romances (Yaeko, Kaitlin, etc) seem like plot points.
Also, did Parkman not recognize Nikki as having thrown him out a window, or was there just no time for that?
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)
I find it interesting that all the least compelling/interesting characters/stories from last season (Parkman, Nikki, Claire esp) and most compelling/interesting (Hiro, Peter) have been switched this season. I hope it was intentional.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
What giant flag? You mean the banner bearing the squiggly Heroes symbol which we'd already seen on Kensei's sword earlier that season?
What Kensei? I thought that was the decoy Kensei that Adam Monroe hired to lure the bandits into a trap, i.e. Asian eyes we saw through the mask (lol Kensei is Hiro's dad!!) vs. gaijin eyes.
Anyway I just want to be loved by internet nerds. ;_;
Someone speculated that Angela's power is suggestion -- in this episode, she told Peter to get a grip or something and BOOM! he remembers she's his mom.
― Leee, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
Also I know it's cute to have Hiro shout YATTA but aren't there any other exclamations of joy/triumph? FFS.

bukake?
― The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)
Monroe being Nathan's dad might explain the burned face Nathan sees in the mirror.
― jeff, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)
i thought that was because he felt guilty about peter's death?
― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)
The stupid Phd holder i was watching the episode with thought Angela Petrelli's power was that she would insinuate herself into memories???
― Yerac, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)
If Monroe were Nate's dad, Nathan could've regenerated after he and Peter blew up. He may still see the scarred face because he was ashamed that he did not save Peter.
― jeff, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)
does Moms Petrocelli definitely have to have a power? she could be like Linda McCartney in Wings - no obvious talent, but they let her in the gang because she was banging one of them.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)
Scarred face = Maury/Parkman's dad psyching out Nathan?
I don't think that specific powers are perfectly heritable -- otherwise, Claire "Bear" would've been making out with her half-bro. Also, Micah directly addressed this issue -- he told cousin muscle mimic that the heritability lies with the fact they're special, not the precise nature of that specialness.
― Leee, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)
I can't see the Heroes writers coming up with the Parkman family powers and not using that same logic to come up with some sort of Claire / Monroe twist. If they had to the balls to make Claire and West related, that would be the best.
― jeff, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)
I can't see the Heroes writers coming up with the Parkman family powers and not using that same logic to come up with some sort of Claire / Monroe twist.
orly?
Phase-shifting + split-personality super-strength = talks to machines, which is cousins with muscle mimicry.
pyrokinesis + flying = healing factor
flying is bros with power-sponging
snoglobes + ? = brane-eating
Point is, specific powers are heritable only when it's convenient for them to be heritable, otherwise it's a mess of random powers for the sake of powers. Maybe Claire and Monroe are somehow related, but you'd have a hard time basing that assumption on Parkmen, given how rigorously logical the writers have approached power distribution so far.
― Leee, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)
Parkmen inheritance was kind of a disappointment in so far as that kind of transmission of powers was sopmething they seemed to be originally steering away from. i do tend to think that having mad the leap to establish the possibility, it will definitely be used for a larger purpose. there have been a few Star Wars moments so far, so a "Luke, I am your father" moment is probably just around the corner.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)
do we know anything about dad petrelli?
― bnw, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)
last season they were stressing "EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY IS DISCOVERING POWERS" now it's all "LINEAGE"
― cutty, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)
My prediction for the end of season is that Sylar will somehow be the key part of the prevention of the potential apocolypse brought about by Adam Monroe; perhaps similar to the role played by Gollum in the Lord of the Rings, or maybe intentionally bringing about his redemption and becoming one of the 'good guys' for season 3.
Prior to the most recent episode, I thought Sylar was the only interesting character left - but since I enjoyed it this week and he wasn't in it at all I must have been wrong. I continue to be irritated by Peter + Oirish folk, Claire + reckless flyboy (did Claire's mum think coming round uninvited and making breakfast was normal behaviour?) and Hiro when not in present time, although I returned to liking him when he came back to Ando. I am also irritated by the theme of 'daddy issues'.
ps, where has Veronica Mars gone? And who is her daddy?
― AlanSmithee, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)
given how rigorously logical the writers have approached power distribution so far
How is it logical? You just pointed out how there is no logic. Sometimes a specific power is inherited, sometimes it is not. The only logic is convenience and I'm sure that this writer's strike and the rumored frantic rewrites will add some more convenience to the mix.
i do tend to think that having mad the leap to establish the possibility, it will definitely be used for a larger purpose. there have been a few Star Wars moments so far, so a "Luke, I am your father" moment is probably just around the corner.
I agree.
― jeff, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)
veronica mars' dad is bob right? she works for a company, the company was holding peter hostage before he ended up in ireland so...
― Roz, Tuesday, 6 November 2007 22:40 (eighteen years ago)

in the graphic novels, we know he met linderman in the army. but other than that, we never find out if he had powers that manifested later. so I guess unless either angela/dad petrelli is revealed to have powers, we don't really know who nathan or peter got theirs from.

Hey so those create your own Heroes commercials or whatever; they're trying to get the fans to write season 3, aren't they?
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 03:39 (eighteen years ago)
You know, cuz of the STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE.
at least kring realizes the show has fallen off, thats more then most shows give you when they go into the shitter (HI JACK BAUER). Does season 2 really end in 3 episodes or is this a mini-break??? b/c like nothing has happened at all.
― bnw, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 05:38 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah they can't write any new episodes due to the strike, so unless it is resolved soon it'll be on a "mini-break" until fall '08. Just like every other damn tv show. The Office, for instance, already struck their set and fired the entire production crew. Only one more episode of that.
― Clay, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 06:14 (eighteen years ago)
RIP primetime.
> Hey so those create your own Heroes commercials or whatever; they're trying to get the fans to write season 3, aren't they?
Even better, those are going to be original web content, which is uh...exactly what the WGA is striking about.
Anyway.
I know that brown people don't matter as much as blonde girls and women, but does it strike anyone else that an entire wedding party of hundreds could drop dead of no particular cause and not kick up at least a tiny fuss?

Just in case that last post wasn't clear enough, playing that make your own hero shit means you are a fucking SCAB.

...an entire wedding party of hundreds could drop dead of no particular cause and not kick up at least a tiny fuss?
I think an international police chase complete with front page HOMICIDIO headlines qualifies as more than "a tiny fuss".

No, that happens to Spanish-speaking people all the time.
WTF is up with Peter and his "I must lose my shirt in every episode" clause? Did someone buy him a Bowflex over the summer?

so is adam monroe good or bad? i think after 400 years he might be over hating hiro
― cutty, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)
Is Adam really the killer that Bob claims he is? The murders didn't start until he & Peter escaped, and the first one killed was daddy Nakamura.
Bigger question: if Adam's blood has such awesome healing properties, surely Claire's and Peter's do too, right??? Or is he a special kind of healer?
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)
Episode 11 is going to effectively be the season 2 finale. They may sign on for a 3rd season, but with the ratings plunge, you can't be sure (LOST's ratings also dropped in the 2nd season).
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)
we have no evidence they are related yet, do we?
― cutty, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)
Not because they're related, because they also regenerate.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)
Okay, point taken about the manhunt, but still - that massacre seems a whole mess more significant than the pursuit as so far demonstrated would suggest. Like, everyone (including and especially Bob and the Company) would know about it and be wondering what caused it.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)
i am completely blind and didn't realize kenzo and adam were the same person! jesus.

Haitian twist was probably the first time I was actually surprised this season. Not the twist that he erased Peter's memories, but that he was doing it for the right reason.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)
to be honest I fall asleep during every episode of heroes and then ahve to rewind and rewatch the second half, sometimes falling asleep again
― akm, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)
Also if there ever is a season 3 please please please let Micah finally get involved in the shit because his power is still one of the coolest and potentially most useful in terms of fucking the Company up, plus apparently he's the only one who gets what they're supposed to be doing.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

I knew this "Four Months Ago" episode was coming, but I didn't know it'd focus on Micah, Nikki and DL. Why oh why?
Where was Parkman? Sylar? Ando? HRG?
I guess Ando was standing around waiting for Hiro, natch. But anyway...
― James Mitchell, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)
i don't get why they didn't just pick up the story at this point at the beginning of the season and move ahead chronologically, it would have made more sense and been less annoying
― akm, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)
i was thinking that last night, but the only logical explanation (non plot device) was there was a four month gap from the last season ending?
― cutty, Tuesday, 13 November 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)
Also I think they thought the "oh no, hiro's childhood hero is actually the Big Bad Boss Guy" reveal would be, like, actually shocking to the audience. But instead that audience generally saw it coming from like episode two.

did you guys already talk about the show runner apologizing for this season and basically admitting that heroes sucks?
The interpretation of those quotes on that site was a bit idiotic. It was little more than when the Lost guys admitted that nobody liked Nikki and Paolo as much as they did. Their mistake this season was to replicate the rhythm of the first--slow build and dance around without much happening, then having the real story kick in at around episode 7. The writers' strike seems to have killed the arc they had in mind.
― mulla atari, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)
^^^ OTM
Scanners rip-off also otm.
I cannot believe the writers kept DL alive with some "bullet inches away from his heart" bullshit only to have him unceremoniously *shot again*. Just minutes before he phased through a sucker punch, but can't do it again when a guns pointed at him... The reason he got shot last time was because he chose not to phase through it. I don't know if they were purposefully trying to fuck the show's internal logic, or just couldn't think of any other way to kill off the black guy. big wtf on that one. At least having him take a bullet for Niki *again* would have a little poetry in it.
And wtf with the promo trailers and complete Sylar denial? Too busy electrocuting shirtless Peter and shooting the black guy twice to give us a hint how he survived?
I hope this strike gives the writers a chance to regroup because they completely blew it this season.
― petey_carnum, Wednesday, 14 November 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)
Oh Clair so much unfilled potential, you waste it all on this Adam West character. And Mr Bennet, you are no Jack Bristow, you're not even a RB Bennett. But I salute your efforts.

this was boring. also, enough with the kinky seductress shit. I so badly wanted to smack Veronica Mars in this episode.
re ratings: Lost's ratings went down in the second season but grew within the 18-49 demographic because of the later hour, and that's really all that matters for the networks. I'm not sure Heroes has been that lucky.

Who? (You don't mean Noah? He was resuscitated at the end, which was pretty hard not to predict. Or do you mean DL? In which case I agree that his killing made no real sense but the show seems to have abandoned any pretense of logic.)
If Elle was able to zap out of her hand bindings as soon as Noah released her, why couldn't she have done it a little earlier? (And this probably just proves that I've been staying in too much but I totally went for her seductress schtick.)
― Sundar, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure Peter's blood has healing power; he merely mimics the capability of regeneration, and therefore doesn't carry it in his genes?
― Gaia1981, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)
Wasn't it his blood that healed Nathan?
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)
By all logic Claire (and Peter)'s blood should be able to cure just as well as Adam's
Was it not Claire's blood that was used to cure Noah? I thought that's what they were getting at. So prob Mohinder cured him but maybe the company did it so they can experiment on him?
Adam's blood healed Nathan xpost
― Sundar, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)
it used to be "it's all brains!" now it's all "genes".
I know, I know, I shouldn't think too much since this is Heroes but wouldn't a blood transfusion mean that Nathan/Noah now have this ability too, with regenerative blood cells in their circulatory system?
And yes it was Claire's blood that healed Noah.
― Roz, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)
Well, from the start, the powers were supposed to be the result of genetic mutations that were leading to a higher stage of evolution. The idea was just never really developed in any consistent way.
That's a good question about the transfusion.
― Sundar, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)
i felt sorry for Sandra Bennett. That shot of her and Mr. Muggles at the end..aww.
― Roz, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)
Unless something in the regenerative blood is actually changing the genomes of the donees, I think the blood is just some panacea able to fix the broken cells in a person's body, not to change DNA, ergo the donees won't have regenerative powers themselves. I'd use a Battlestar analogy, but I don't want to spoil or come off like a nerd or something.
Did no one else go mental with this episode? It was sooooo good.
xpost haha Roz, also when Mr. Bennet said with menace, "DID YOU PACK MR. MUGGLE'S BATHTUB????"
― Leee, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)
I TOTALLY psyched myself out -- when Hiro froze time to scope out Kaito's killa, I swore it'd be Peter because 1) Adam is way too obvious, and 2) Peter's already working with Adam.
― Leee, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)
Mr. muggles is a sleeper shapeshifting hero that will save Bennet

I liked this episode lots actually. Lil Hiro. Big Hiro and Kaito. The shot of West knocking Elle over the car. Wet Elle. I love Angela Petrelli, somebody tell me she's not going to be stuck in jail from now on. And Matt and Mohinder continue doing incredibly stupid things yay.

i miss Lost
― carne asada, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)
So bad acting is not really a problem of the show, as it's just part of the show's generic window-dressing, and complaining about it is like saying that 5-star chili is too spicy.
xpost Chaki did you eat a Guatemalan insanity pepper because you are cuckoo! Lost is too po-faced and not pulpy enuf (yes yes they're different shows) and Benry is more constipated than creepy. I have a hard time impugning Locke, though.

Masi Oka and George Takei at least are good actors! I know his whole 400 years ago story was important as a set-up for what's happening now, but god it's refreshing for Hiro to finally be involved in a not-boring story again.
I just hate West and was really disappointed that he didn't die in this episode, and wtf for being a smart guy Mohinder is always such a fucking dumbass.
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)
Also good actors on this show: guy who plays Nathan Petrelli, girl who plays Maya.
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)
Maya has great eyes.
― Wrinklepaws, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)
It's not the acting so much as the writing on this show. I think Hayden P is a great little actress, but there's not much she can do when they keep feeding her those "I'm just a cheerleader" lines.
That said, Milo Ventimiglia, Ali Larter and the guy who plays West are probably the worst, or at least most likely to make me cringe in any given episode.
― Roz, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)
Peter is so fucking awful.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 04:16 (eighteen years ago)
I've heard that Hayden P crossed the picket line, so along with the fact that I find her to be an overly showy actress, I kind of hate her.
― Leee, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)
is that true? so not cool.
― Roz, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 05:28 (eighteen years ago)
guy who plays Nathan Petrelli
Adrian Pasdar: http://imdb.com/name/nm0664499/
It's a crime that Profit only lasted 8 eps.
― rogermexico., Wednesday, 21 November 2007 06:15 (eighteen years ago)
The guy who plays Parkman is a great actor too.
Leee surely TECHNICALLY there's no picket line for her to cross, since she's not a writer? (NB I am not aware of the ins and outs of this strike)
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)
Technically, there was/is a proverbial literal picket line for her to cross. On the fourth day, a bunch of striking writers were outside the gates to the FOX lots and while certain non-writers (union brethren and sisteren, some actors, etc.) honored the picket lines by not crossing them out of solidarity (symbolic and otherwise) with the writers, Hayden Pen. blithely had her mum drive straight through even though Heroes obviously doesn't shoot at FOX. (More strike ins and outs at that link.)
― Leee, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)
The only cast member that has been able to consistently act their way around bad writing this season:

This episode was good. The double plot surprises (kensei the killer... HRG shot to the face) while predictable, were the kind of plot pacing I enjoyed from last season.

OMG it finally gets good with one more to go.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)
One thing about s2 vs s1: s2 always looks like a tv show. One of the best things about s1 was the ardent comic book-ish cinematography, which it has taken me until now to realize is entirely missing this season.
But whatev HIRO V PETER holy shit.
― nickalicious, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 03:09 (eighteen years ago)
i think I saw a shark jump over micah's backpack
― bnw, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 03:15 (eighteen years ago)
Is Pasdar even still on this show?
Anyway, what happened to spongebraingirl's super reflexes and fightang skillzors?
I'm even starting to warm up to West, now that he has something to do besides act like a creepy stalker, but that whole N.O. family apparently not only got powers but also the ability to bore viewers in a single bound.
― Oilyrags, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)
Anybody enough of a fan to map out which Heroes staff took their increased Season 1 cred and leapt to alternate projects? Seems like this season's suffered from reinventing the wheel quite a bit.
OTM re: Suresh's stupidity. He reminds me of Lana on "Smallville". They feed the plot with their inconsistent behavior.
And while the audience knows Sylar and Maya doesn't, he's all but twirling a moustache in their scenes, including his vocal inflections. Maya seems more dumb than pitiable. It's hard to tell if it's intentional or if it's just bad writing.
― scampering alpaca, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)
Dumb!
― Leee, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)
lol yamakasi.
Meh, I don't know what they're missing, but I know that last season I couldn't wait for a new episode each week and the only time it's come close to that this season is that ep with the nightmare man and Kensei=Adam revelation.
And come on, you know Hiro vs Peter is gonna turn out to be completely anticlimactic. It's equivalent to the one last season where Claire was supposed to shoot Peter as he starts to explode but then he calms down in the next ep.
― Roz, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 07:53 (eighteen years ago)
Anybody enough of a fan to map out which Heroes staff took their increased Season 1 cred and leapt to alternate projects?
I dunno about the rest of the staff but I'd say they lost a key guy in Bryan Fuller (worked on ST: Voyager, created/produced Dead Like Me) who was co-exec producer all of s 1 and wrote two of the key episodes - "Collision" and "Company Man". Left to do Pushing Daisies.
― Roz, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 07:57 (eighteen years ago)
Pushing Daisies is such twee pooo.
― Leee, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)
I like "Pushing Daisies", though it's not a must-see. Chi McBride is always watchable (except maybe for his donating tyrant character on "House"), and the arch narrator is fun.
-- HI DERE, Tuesday, 23 October 2007 15:23 (1 month ago) Link
Agreed, both sentences. Who would have thought Adam Baldwin would go from "My Bodyguard" to so many enjoyable roles? Plus "Journeyman" scratches my phantom "Quantum Leap" limb itch.
― scampering alpaca, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)
Pushing Daisies IS twee but at least it's tonally consistent, which is more than I can say for Heroes s2. Personally I think keeping a consistent pace and tone has been Heroes' main problem throughout this season - every episode has something interesting enough to keep me watching but then it's bogged down by tedious Sanders family drama, or Claire-West teen soap romance, or more Maja-Alejandro-Sylar. And it completely destroys whatever momentum is gained from revelations that's related to the central Company/virus narrative thread.
btw is this the first time this season that Peter has kept his shirt on throughout an entire episode? And lol they totally messed up Parkman's storyline from last ep, all that work getting Angela Petrelli to fess up Victoria Pratt's name only to have her killed this ep by Adam and Peter. Lame.
― Roz, Thursday, 29 November 2007 18:01 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe they're planning on throwing Peter & Parkman against each other in classic comic "FITE!" / "now we're allies!" fashion. Hiro & Peter are probably doing that, at the moment.
What was Victoria's power? That's a missed opportunity, unless they're going to have more flashbacks.
― scampering alpaca, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:05 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe she doesn't have a power. doesn't seem as if Angela Petrelli has one either.
ok, bets on who dies next week? Two characters, supposedly both have been regulars since s1. I'm guessing *crossed fingers* one of them is Nikki, we're supposed to believe she's going to get cured, which can only mean she doesn't.
― Roz, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)
Episode was good but the strike-induced pace was a bit much. Hopefully next week's finale won't feel so rushed.
― jeff, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:28 (eighteen years ago)
Please let them be sensible enough to wack Mohinder while they're dumping Nikki's body in a river. CUT THE FAT, GUYS.
― Clay, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)
I won't fathom a guess re: Victoria's power, but young her was smoking I was sad that Hiro left the '70s so quickly.
I don't get the tonal inconsistencies -- the season's tone has been pretty consistent boringboringboringness with occasional spikes of LOLOMGWTF cheese. Pace has been a problem, I'll agree, and I don't mean Lee Pace.
― Leee, Thursday, 29 November 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)
The most frustrating thing about this show, at least to me, is how much it seems to fear actual change and risk and acknowledging high stakes when they set them up. Every episode seems to be a reset button. People change sides and then revert to what we expect of them. Characters die but then they do not. Events happen but there are no repercussions or they're just time traveled back to normalcy. It's kind of an intrinsic problem with this show that seriously needs fixing if they want the audience to be actually invested in Big Events.
― Clay, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)
You can say that about almost any action show, though replace "time traveled" with "Jack Bauer" or something.
― Leee, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)
maybe tone's not the right word, it's just the bits where they can't decide what sort of show they want to be. Hiro's antics in Japan starts off as light-hearted, cutesy fun before suddenly turning all serious and menacing right at the end with no gradual progression in between. Likewise, it's weird and distracting when they're in conspiracy thriller mode and then suddenly switch back to "omg, i has powers" when it goes back to Monica. It ties up to what Clay's saying about being invested in Big Events, you can't care about some virus that's gonna destroy the world when half the characters on the show don't care or even know about it.
― Roz, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)
doesn't seem as if Angela Petrelli has one either.
Not only does she, but they've started to hit us over the head with it.
― rogermexico., Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)
what, power of persuasion?
― Roz, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)
Reinvolve Ando, make Suresh less "I'm UNDER-cover, fellas! And acting from pure morals!" annoying, refine Peter's Ultra Boy abilities (he is the most powerful hero, after all), make Company Bob more of a threat than "Bob & his crazy daughter" (who's bankrolling The Company?, wouldn't the C.I.A. love to get their hands on superhero weapons?), give Micah more of a plotline (why couldn't he be an Oracle figure? or invent super Forge gizmos?), bring back Claude the Invisible and Hana the Info-Omnipotent, etc. There are a ton of good ideas to mine.
Not sure where to go with Sylar. Hoping he's not in a revolving cycle of threat, non-threat. He doesn't have the nuance of a Magneto. He should have died in the S1 finale.
― scampering alpaca, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:13 (eighteen years ago)
Bob is financing The Company himself. He can transmute metals, including turning them into gold.

the show had just started to get good, too. i swear if it's not improved when and if it finally comes back, i'm done. they clearly crammed about four episodes into one and ... had some gaffer write some dialogue or something. also, sylar "i'm back"...uh you've been back all freakin' season so it's not like that's any surprise!
― akm, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
omg the whole nikki/micah/tv girl plot line was really fucking ridiculous, no?
tv girl goes after the gangsters who stole firefighting medal and comics from child, gangster proceeds to burn restaurant with comic (symbolic of show burning to the ground), nikki finally gets to become a hero and explodes in fiery bombs, micah has his one bit of acting that actually works

It was a decent episode and funny at times. I would've preferred that Micah's cousin bit the dust too, but oh well. I hope that this means that Micah will actually do something interesting in the next volume. If he turned evil, that would be great.
― jeff, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)
It would have been good if there was another 11 episodes to come after it instead of a nine month wait...

Peter might realize that since he too can regenerate that maybe his blood will work just like Adam's/Claire's, but he's not one for realizing stuff really.

― cutty, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 00:17 (eighteen years ago)
for some reason i really want it to be good.
― carne asada, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)
between time traveling and save anyone blood, they've removed all the danger from the show. It is kind of like the Matrix sequels now.
― bnw, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 04:01 (eighteen years ago)
> the better question is why do we keep watching this trainwreck?
Indeed.
> for some reason i really want it to be good.
Indeed. And sometimes, it ALMOST makes it. I did laugh at Fatcop telling Flyingcongressman "We will never mention this again."
― Oilyrags, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 04:43 (eighteen years ago)
Things I did enjoy in this episode:
*Hiro really working his time/space control, popping from place to place like he doesn't even have to try that hard anymore
*the return of the comic book-y dialogue visual trick where you get the back of someone's head or a silhouette vaguely out of focus in the foreground and the speaker in front
― nickalicious, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 06:05 (eighteen years ago)
A lot of the complaints and suggestions here sound like pure impatience to me. Heroes has never been about instant gratification. I'm sure a lot of the plotlines and characters will start to tie in next series.
― the next grozart, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 10:37 (eighteen years ago)
is this going to come back anytime soon? really in retrospect, this season was so bad, I don't even care
― akm, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
No but they have signed on for a third season.
― nickalicious, Monday, 24 March 2008 22:51 (eighteen years ago)
NB: the 2nd season wasn't any worse than the 1st.

LIES
― bnw, Monday, 24 March 2008 23:08 (eighteen years ago)
NB: I'm thinking the 1st season (aside from that awesome stretch in the middle that climaxed w/ the Claire / HRG / Eric Roberts showdown) wasn't nearly as awesome as fans want to believe.
― David R., Monday, 24 March 2008 23:12 (eighteen years ago)
dude you can say the first season was overrated but the second season was like a black hole of bad.

NB: I am a contrary motherfucker.

Veronica Electrobitch was kind of funny. Also funny was how Peter's girlfriend was abandoned in a doomed future!

Did the dude who plays Peter sign a "no shirt" clause or something? I think he is bare-chested in at least one scene in every single episode of season 2.

yes that is a terribly dumb question

― i am the small cat (HI DERE), Wednesday, 24 September 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)
Also, is this Future Peter supposed to be from the alternate future from the first season where NYC exploded or from a different alternate future where NYC didn't blow up but Nathan Petrelli DID go public with his powers?
xpost I just didn't remember if the "turtle"'s voice was the same as the wandering dude's
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 24 September 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)
It was the same voice.
Future Peter comes from a future where NY didn't blow up but Nathan went public, hence his attempt to shoot Nathan in the face in the middle of the press conference.

I'm almost a little sad that this episode didn't have any lolwtfomg pseudo-science from Mohimbo... but domesticated Sylar was totally rofls.
― Leee, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
I was totally rooting for future Sylar. I liked last nights ep a lot.
― carne asada, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)
Dan was totally otm about Future Peter being such a douche, but i would extend that and summarize this nightmare version of the future as 'everyone is an asshole except for Sylar'.
i wonder if they have plans for a story arc somewhere down the line that doesn't involve trying to avoid a dystopian future.
― Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)
Do you think he ate Mr. Bennet in the future? E.g. the glasses, the tyke named Noah, the house in Costa Verde.
Peter should've just gone buck wild in the future, eating everyone's branes and THEN gone back to the present.
Lord help me, the Petrelli arcs are the most interesting this season, and Hiro/Ando are kind of bleh though last night's cliffhanger was pretty awes.
― Leee, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
i dunno, too many goddamn Petrellis now.

vortex guy was awesome. great job with the sound art on that one. most of the character rewrites/resets (mohinder, sylar, tracey, nathan) are finally starting to pay off, except emo claire which is still going nowhere.
― Carl Magnusssen (petey_carnum), Tuesday, 14 October 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)
so far, Season 3 is infinitely better than Season 2, and they have made up for killing off The Black Dude by bringing in the entire cast of THE WIRE

Carver as the 4th Petrelli brother! DO IT!
― David R., Tuesday, 14 October 2008 17:03 (seventeen years ago)
I knew ahead of time that Marlo (and I do call him Marlo here too) would be on the show but Bubbles was a big surprise.
And why is it that so many of the female characters are genuinely obnoxious? Daphne, Veronica Mars, Claire, crying girl, Candace, etc all make me want to throw something at the TV. There are plenty of evil male characters but I don't find any of them as annoying for some reason.
― ILX MOD (musically), Tuesday, 14 October 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)
I think a lot of the ladies redeemed themselves a bit last night! I just hope that the show doesn't try to ship Glasses with Flaming Mom.
Whereas Mohimbo gets worse and worse in a lol way.
They're getting way too much mileage out of that coma-juice. Find one more new way to put some superbody temporarily out of commission, aite?

― my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)
Sylar is no longer compelling, Claire is annoying, Matt is retarded and useless, MOHINDER WTF, all the new people are terrible, Nathan is completely misused, and Peter Petrelli is absolutely nothing like Peter Petrelli anymore.
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

Adam dying was pretty sweet. It would be cool if the Dad just ate all the crappy characters.
Perky speedster always looks cross eyed to me. Hiro is just too damn cloying. I think if I were Asian I would be writing hate mail about him.
I am glad they seem to be moving past the "hero or villain?" bullshit. (maybe).

The fact that the actress who plays Lady Kid Flash is a friend of a friend is the only thing keeping me watching this show. It is kind of amusing to see how many of McDowell's scenes are shot with body doubles and the rest of the cast totally absent, though.

or large sharp piece of something through the brain that wasn't necessarily a stab.

meh but Adam's ability was ALL THAT WAS KEEPING HIM ALIFE OMG
― my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:08 (seventeen years ago)
same with peter though. so i guess i'm just overthinking the show. it's hard not do that, though.
― Lingbert, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:16 (seventeen years ago)
Peter's not a zillion years old. If he'd had a screwdriver in his head at the exact precise moment that Evil Max Cherry aka What About You, Dad had stolen his abilit(ies), I'm sure he would have keeled right over.
― my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:20 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, adam was presumably in perfect health. the reason he didn't age was because his cells continued to heal themselves, so for all intents and purposes, his cells are 27 years old or however old adam was when his ability kicked in. the reason peter didn't die was because his brain cells healed themselves, bringing his brain cells back to normal. if adam turned to dust when his ability was taken, then that would mean that his healing wasn't a permanent thing. it only lasted as long as his ability was then. once the ability was taken, then all the effects of his healing would be gone. if that's the case, then once peter's ability was taken, all his injuries would come back and he would die.
ok fine i guess you could say that peter's healing ability doesn't work exactly the same as adam's did, so that's why he didn't die. i am spending way too much time on this.
― Lingbert, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:29 (seventeen years ago)
don't quit on me now!
― my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:31 (seventeen years ago)

― Lingbert, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 06:35 (seventeen years ago)
Adam's power apparently manifested itself as healing but was, in fact, that his cells would always return to a particular stasis point; the removal of his power caused that stasis point to vanish and his cells, which were all thousands of years old, all fell apart.
Peter, via Claire's rapid cell regeneration power, had regenerated injured cells by the time his powers were taken away, so his old injuries didn't manifest themselves.

― Pipe Wrench Fight (HI DERE), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 14:04 (seventeen years ago)
At least now we know how Future Peter was capable of getting a big facial scar and dying of gunshot wounds to the chest.
Another serious gripe: Peter's born ability was supposedly power empathy - he gained whatever powers others used around him, right? Well then he should've gained Sylar's ability WAY back in season 1 when Sylar attempted to cut open his head (Sylar: "you're like me, I'd like to see how that works"...telekinesis SLICe...forlock THUD).
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

Everyone gets a punt in the nuts for why one immortal died and another lived: Dad sucks vital essence out of the person he's in contact with -- touch only for a little bit, and he takes the powers. Touch for a long time with malicious intent, and he drains your entire life.

― Disco/Very (Roz), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 05:40 (seventeen years ago)
Parman is funny, sometimes I forget his power makes him pretty much unfuckwithable.
GRIPE: after they made such a big deal about Peter getting Sylar's "hunger" or whatever, now that his dad has taken his abilities, which should include Sylar's also, why doesn't Arthur ALSO have the "hunger"? I suppose he could have the "hunger" and not feel the need to chop people's heads open, since he can get powers his own way. WAIT so could Peter.
This show.
Also I had a dream last night where a bunch of my friends kept telling me tomorrow was Suresh's birthday and were we gonna have a party for him or something and I'm thinking NO because he is a TERRIBLE MONSTER now, wtf friends?
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 12:46 (seventeen years ago)

up the creek and down the shitter
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)
why do i even watch?
― carne asada, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)
i wanted to believe that I liked Season 2 more than season 3 because I watched 2 over a weekend, but I bet 3 would be even more incoherent and random if the viewing experience was cumulative. The show kind of reminds me of Deadwood. Awesome first season, sillier but enjoyable second season, overstuffed third season with new bad guy who brings ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the table.
is there a gif of Peter teleporting into Sylar's cell and scurrying over to strangle him?
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)
Last night was a borderline clip show.
― Carl Magnusssen (petey_carnum), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)
It revealed new details about old events, making you see those defining moments in new ways. New "Wow, I don't give a fuck anymore" ways.

HEROES CONTINUITY QUERY: Does someone remember if Sylar went "hey, I know you!" when he first encountered Elle in season 2?
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)
so glad how i met your mother is doing better in the ratings than this. They're not directly competing shows (same night, though), but I'm much more interested in another season of that than this. Sure it's a lot cheaper too.

lol, awesome but I want to see the scurry. It looked like it was played at double speed.
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:41 (seventeen years ago)
me and my gf played heroes bingo an episode or two ago, guessing nine potential cliches each (i.e. "parkman cries," "ali larter removes an article of clothing," "shirtless milo," "someone dies in the future," "someone dies in a dream"). Somehow neither of us got any points but the episode still sucked.
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
Fools don't understand the show's narrative radicalism well that's ok have fun in the 20th century lamewads.
― Leee, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 22:57 (seventeen years ago)
HIMYM has narrative radicalism
― da croupier, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)
It's also funny as cancer.
― Leee, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:13 (seventeen years ago)
hey guys, HIMYM is a sitcom.
― cutty, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)
you watching this show anymore?
― carne asada, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, but i didn't catch up on everything until recently. i like this season way more than season 2. i also enjoyed last night, although the elle/sylar thing obviously was a red flag.
i think sylar is the best character now.
― cutty, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)
can't wait for sylar's married... with children-style spinoff
― nurse blorbius (jeff), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:42 (seventeen years ago)
also i watch HIMYM, i just don't see the point in comparing the two. that show does not fail to make me happy.
― cutty, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 23:42 (seventeen years ago)
To unpack the above posts, the point initially was that I was grateful the Monday night show that IMO has aged better is currently more successful, despite the relative lack of promotion and budget. Then Leee (presumably in jest) credited Heroes' "narrative radicalism" for the loss of enthusiasm, so I mentioned (also in jest) that the this sitcom also features "narrative radicalism."

SYLAR!
― cutty, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)
love this guy and his eyebrows
you KNOW he banged her
It's funny to think maybe this whole time Sylar could've gained all those people's powers without killing them haha.
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)
There was one shot in the scenes with him & Elle where he looked almost exactly like Milo.
― BODY PROP (nickalicious), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)

it's impossible for me to post in this thread, because i've let this all go and it feels so great to be done with it...but me telling you that won't do anything, you are going have to want to get better before you can stop watching this....but life is so great when you do.

Although it's a little heavy-handed that the Haitian's brother's alias is Baron Samedi.
I hope this show is drawn out for 10 more seasons and we still don't know the Haitian's name.
― venom boners are totally canon (nickalicious), Tuesday, 25 November 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

Overstatement. But I didn't immediately ask myself "why do I bother?" which is a major improvement.

peter is the biggest pussy ever. Hiro’s role as the catalyst (some lol light spirit) keeper lasted about two seconds. This show kind of drives me crazy but I still watch.

How did Sylar use his powers when the Haitian was standing right there?

i am just thankful sylar is killing people again.
sylar coulda waxed the haitian....daddy can heal so why do we care if hes shot again?daddy can apparently time travel toohiro swears to his dying mother to protect 'the light' but still acts cute and silly when its ganked from himthree characters reduced to 'neverending story' reader status.

i have been watching this season at my parents' on the weekends while doing laundry, i have fast-forwarded through all of the claire at college, parkman seeing sylar, and whoever ali larter is supposed to be stuff, half payed attention to all the hiro, bennett, patrelli/sylar, and carnie folk scenes, and was actually kind of into the deaf woman who can see music or whatever thing.
