PW(NED)?

:)

Can I answer about the person I have (alas) fallen hard for but (alas) am not "with" (a.k.a. SO NOT GONNA HAPPEN)? If so: 1) eye contact, 2) voice, 3) cuteness, 4) smartness, 5) quietness, 6) telling me about how, at age 13 and living in some redneck hellhole, he got obsessed with Brian Eno and made it his mission to collect all of Eno's recordings.

Hm. He was cute, goofy, and we both really liked the Fast Show and Futurama and spent all evening quoting shit and being retards. Only problem was, I was with someone else and he was only 19 (which I didnt know at the time).

Took 2 more years before we got around to going out but we've been together over 3 years now. And we still sit around quoting Futurama all the time =)

Boobs were only point in the 50s. They fell out of fashion due to increasing lawsuits caused by 'having someone's eye out with those'.

In no particular order:

1. Infinite kindness and generosity.
2. Infinite patience - three years of emails, and not once did she hurry anything; simply waited for me to sort out my demons and become ready for another relationship.
3. Completely and unreservedly on the same wavelength - emotional, aesthetic and every other way you can think of.
4. She was and is the only person prepared to take me on despite the Asperger's and everything else.
5. When I am with her the Asperger's disappears completely, or at least that's how it feels.
6. Infinite beauty - both internal and external (pace Earl Spencer).
7. She makes me feel like a teenager again, and also like an adult, as opposed to the pale ghost of a widower.
8. She is my soulmate, and I hers.
9. With us it's about helping each other to grow, to smile and to live truly and wonderfully.
10. We give ourselves to each other and it is the most natural thing in the world.
11. We fit together so well. The things we don't have individually, the other has in droves.
12. We make each other live again.

I have to admit, it's pretty odd for someone's vagina to be what initially inveigled you. In what kind of compromising position did you meet this girl, and why? I could even understand if you were initially attracted to them because they were a woman, or whatever, but this seems a bit off. Maybe it's just a really, really stellar and famous vagina.

Oh, his voice. Then I came to visit him. I haven't stopped touching him since. He's gentle and brusque. His skin smells of pine though he's not the outdoorsy type. Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 10 November 2006 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'll go on, however.

First time I remember meeting her was going to a movie w/some friends. She was/is the best friend of a then-coworker. She, my coworker, and another friend of theirs came along, and I thought she was with the other friend. Over time I learned otherwise. She was tall and geeky and really sweet and I was interested but didn't want things to be weird w/my coworker ("Hey, that one friend of yours . . . ").

After a year of hanging out w/her off and on, always in the company of my coworker, I got a job in New York and had a going-away party. She came along. We both got drunk, and when she got up to go and we, um, started making out. "I'm glad we didn't do this earlier," she said. "Why not?" I asked. Then we kissed again for about 10 minutes.

For the next couple weeks I felt annoyed at myself for not having done anything earlier. My coworker moved to NYC as well--into my apartment, in fact. "Oh, she likes you a lot too," he told me. I became her MySpace friend. Then I went back to Seattle for the EMP Pop Conference, a Thursday-Sunday event. On Saturday she came by. We ran into each other in the hall.

One week from today I fly back to Seattle to be with her.

I had a wild weekend in Boston, and ran into him on the ferry back to the island (he had gone to the Boston marathon - to watch - this is an important fact). I tried to ignore him, because I was trying to eat a hotdog while wearing a very racy dress and a leapord skin fur coat.
When you live on martha's Vineyard, or maybe any island, you sort of stop getting in line to get off the boat. Like, you either place yourself at the bulkhead, or you read your magazine until everyone else has waited in the stupid line. So I was reading my magazine, and he was...lurking. In a dreamy way. I stood up, and he approached me, and we stood on the deck and talked while everyone else got off the boat.
This is how he asked me for a date: "Um, do you want to do something together sometime?"
Um, yeah!
it still cracks me up - something, together, sometime, yes yes, yes!
He ran a marathon two weeks later, one week after our first date, which turned into many dates, every day.
Our relationship was very new, but we were very much in love. The marathon was off island, and he stayed with his family. When I called him, after the race, he said "I thought about you for the last two miles, and I chanted your name."
I don't believe I'll ever hear anything as romantic - and incredible! - as that, again, ever.
The last two miles were uphill.

Wow, anybody who knows me at all probably knows why I'm attracted to thread titles like this one, and I came here to sing the praises of the person I am now "with," but now I'm all "Gah! MATOS! Amazing! Back to Seattle already!" Man, I have not kept up with shit lately.

And here I have been trying to figure out if and when I can move back to Brooklyn from PDX because I'm in a similar appx 3000 mile long distance relationship as well.

Oh, and my answer to the original thread question: The real "first" attraction was that she is the spitting image of the woman you'd get if you just took the short list of the things I'm very attracted to and put them all on the same person. And that includes things like "a certain sense of humor" as well as "brunette" and other strictly physical attributes.

By the time anything actually happened in my head to indicate that I'd really want to be "with" her it was a combination of that initial attraction and the fact that over the past couple years she'd become my best friend. By then I was also so scared of fucking up the friendship that I was hesitant to do anything.

I didn't even try anything until after two of my best friends told me (separately, but on the same day) to just admit I was in love with her. That night I was sitting in my room thinking about it and crying a little, and my next door neighbor climbed out on the fire escape and tapped on my bedroom window to see if I wanted to come up on the roof and drink beer with her. (This was something she and I occasionally did for various reasons. We were not really close, and there was no attraction between us, but we had this drinking beer on the roof thing about once a month.) Anyway, when I came to the window, she saw I'd been crying and said "You crying?" I said "Yeah," and she said "What, you finally figure out you're in love with that Abby chick?" Later, up on the roof she told me I should just kiss her and listed a bunch of reasons she thought the feelings were mutual in spite of the fact that she'd never actually met Ab.

It turned out my neighbor was right.

It's way more complicated than that of course, but yeah. Ab has been my best friend ever since. Which is saying a ton if you know the details between then and now. I am definitely one of the luckiest people I know.

He had a great smile and we talked for two hours the first time we met. It was an immediate "wow, this guy is cool" judgment. Funny, kind, lots of different (and compatable) interests. Afterwards, the friend who introduced us said that if anyone had a problem with him then there was something wrong with them, as he was all right.

Married for 3 1/2 years now and I still think he's cool :)

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Friday, 10 November 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

We met in a trivia chat room, and he could answer all my music questions and I could answer all his (no one else could). After about three months of talking and talking and talking by IM and phone (and I hate the phone, but with him I loved it), I flew out to meet him and fell in insta-love with his lovely curly hair and really ludicrously long black eyelashes and huge brown eyes. I was there for a week and he asked me to move in (I'm a freelancer and portable), so I sold up everything and moved a month later and it'll be six years in January...

I still can't quite believe how happy I am.

This isn't thread appropriate, but I don't know where else to post it. When we were going to sleep I asked him to sing me a song, and he burst into "Be True To Your School" at full voice.

OMG that would mean instant love.

I had a crush once on this guy I never even met, my roomie's coworker, bcz she would tell me all the ridic puns he made.

Basically what attracted me to my man, v first meeting, was he was extra george-ous and he actually understood my drunkened jokes/refs. Like I made some joke about the typical EC comics plot like "You sharpen the pencil, the pencil comes back to sharpen YOU!" And he actually laffed. That is kind of vain...I also laughed ass off at what he was saying, and he was just extra fun to talk to. And hot.

Abbott, Monday, 7 January 2008 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, I forgot about that. u_u

That cat dumped me a year ago, and then moved away really suddenly, leaving my entire collection of reggae records on my porch (!!)

its amazing how the first drunken meeting in which you fall in love with somebody, you only remember what you say. and later on you tell yourself that you two hit it off from the beginning.

roxymuzak, Monday, 7 January 2008 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not with the guy from upthread anymore (stillbest buds tho).

First met current guy 5 years ago. Was attracted to his insanely, insanely odd way of writing and thinking, and the fact he could write music in about 12321433 different genres and make it look easy. He was also really hot. Alas, he started dating a close friend of mine and lived in Perth anyway, so we just stayed close mates and shared a lot of angst and love life whining with each other over the years. But all that time I carried a little torch for him.

And then he decided to move to melbourne, we both happened to have been single quite a while, and well, that was that.
