i can't work it out... it looks like random London monuments... have I forgotten something obvious??

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

If you hover over the picture, it tells you!

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

You've forgotten that Blackpool Tower isn't in London, for a start.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

The 5 wonders of London, eh? I don't see the doodle that represents "WTF WHY IS THIS BEER £3.50?"

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, is *that* what it is? I thought the Merkins had got the date of the 5th November wrong or something.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

I had to click through to find out what they all were, and I could have squinted at the picture from now until the end of eternity without recognising that as Edinburgh Castle.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

It's realistic detial, everything is obscured by smog.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

the five wonders of britain are a retarded ballet dancer, a quiche, a transformer that turns into a tank, and a giant cornetto.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

bless though, she's only 13 - didn't realise that.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

THAT'S FOUR.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

She may be 13, but i bet she can count to five.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

transformer > tank = 2 for 1

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

That's Edinburgh Castle? I thought it was a ship! I mean, it's got a prow and everything... wait, no, that's the Forth Bridge.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

Man I could draw a better picture than any of these stupid kids.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

Go ahead, let's see the Dog Latin Google logo.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, indeed! And you have to draw it with A PEN AND PAPER, not with photoshop.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.google.co.uk/doodle4google/images/doodles06/ross-smele.jpg

Name: Ross Smele
Age: 14
School: Speedwell Technology College
Region: South West
Title: Everything British
Statement: I drew this portrait to show the typical British aspects of Great Britain. I drew a peace dove to show Britain as a peaceful place and the Loch Ness monster showing the mysteries of Britain.

Why has he drawn a plane though? Is it because people want to escape from the monster?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

i don't have a scanner like these no-talent posh children. i could thrash them at pictures any day of the week though.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

It's an airplane: G has both wings (complete with gun turrets), the oo has the propellers. The e at the end is a tail piece with another propeller and on the bottom of the logo sprinkled throughout is the landing gear wheels.

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no, it's multiple air vehicles. The G is a fighter plane. The oos are helicopters (or one double-copter?) and the rest of it is abstractly airplaney.

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

I nominate Ken C to do one.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

In soviet union the google logo draws you. In america we have nothing interesting today.

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's a Concorde! Symbol of... err, failure. Great.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

Please to explain the "L" in that Loch Ness Monster picture. (it's not just any old plane in that picture, DL, it's Concorde)

xpost, God, ILX is slow today

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

How come American GOogle doesn't have an election logo today? A flag or something?

Scorpion Tea (Dick Butkus), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

L = Mr Eko's Jesus Stick

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

I find the hand of the drowning person and the disembodied corpse hand in place of the L far more disturbing.

Dear Cafes of London (kate), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

I like this one from Tom Bennett, arch-royalist and eurosceptic:

In my design, I have included two very British topics. Last April it was the Queen's birthday, so I have included images of royalty. I have intertwined royalty with the sterling as the Queen's head is on the pound coin. I have chosen royalty, as our national anthem is of our Queen, and sterling because it makes us unique as we are not Euro.

a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

if you want to find uk only sites you have to use google UK and it searches the whole catalogue as well, the same as google.com

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:17 (nineteen years ago)

I think there's more than google autoforwarding to the US/Britisher divide.

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

There is a way to still see google.com from a UK machine (without spoofing your IP) but I can't remember what it is now.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Any .co.uk users with a burning need to use .com can go to http://www.google.com/webhp - which doesn't autoforward

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

Oh - it's on the front page "Go to Google.com". Clever.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

(clicking on which just takes you to http://www.google.com , not http://www.google.com/webhp. And then if you bookmark it and use that bookmark, it still doesn't autoforward you in the way typing www.google.com does. Ah, the mysteries of computers.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm

co.uk adds "&meta=" to the search string but .com doesn't

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

i managed to type in google.com without being forwarded, would this be something to do with our works firewall/gateway?

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

typing google.com gets me google.com, typing google.co.uk gets me google.co.uk; what precisely are you blethering about.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

google.com shows my email address in the top-right corner, which .co.uk doesn't do.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm... typing google.com is no longer forwarding me to google.co.uk! Must be a cookie thing.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

To test that I wasn't going mad, I have just typed google.com into my colleagues machine and it forwarded me to google.co.uk.

enjoying today's Google doodle. primitive but pretty ambient sequencer for Oskar Fischinger's birthday. be sure to click on the cog at the bottom because that is where the delay button lives and everything needs delay.

unfortunately you can only have delay OR phaser whereas my general musical policy is to turn both to the max and enjoy the resulting soup for several hours without actually remembering to add any kind of dynamic or melodic progression, but I still have a pretty soupy noise going on so I'm pleased

this is awesome. i have loved Oskar Fischinger even after seeing his work on Arts Channel which was local public access tv in Atlanta back in 2002-2003. it was so cool because it was this hand-made stop motion animation that was very experimental using this constantly developing theoretical framework of synchronizing music to visuals and trying to figure out the analog between colors and shapes and tones etc. very cool stuff. also feel like it was very rooted in that great 20s art deco futurist german expressionism art style that was so sick. one of the greatest abstract filmmakers of all time.
