Well, I'm out of work - waiting for some resumes/other stuff to come back - and I'm waiting for my CA bar exam results this Friday.

So, in an effort to make things mildly interesting, I will now document the next four days on this thread.

10:45 - at home, watching "Trespass," a fine example of early '90s cinema. Ice-T, Ice Cube, William Sadler, Bill Paxton, De'voreaux White (Argyle from Die Hard)...and most of the extras from New Jack City. In fact, take the Carter from New Jack City, take out all of the junkies and hostage families and the drug labs, make the then empty building have one resident - Bradlee, a homeless guy played by Art Evans - and make the soundtrack less Color Me Bad and more Sir Mixx-a-Lot.

Anyway, obviously, I have more time on my hands than I need right now.

Back later...

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

10:52 - just started a dark wash, ate an animal cracker-sized gingerbread cookie, sat back down to watch the rest of this fine, fine piece of cinema.

I so misread this thread title.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

11:03 - Just read the T/S: T/S: Ice Cube v. Ice-T

In Trespass land, Argyle is about to get high, shot up by Bill Paxton and Will Sadler.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

i love trespass. saw it on opening nite on chestnut street in philly. good times.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

will the results be posted online? you need to be in a bar with several drinks in you, then call someone to look it up for you.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

Nay - I will be at home, most likely. And yes, the results will be posted online, and here, immediately. Good Christ, I hope I pass.

11:18 - almost done with Trespass. Will Sadler and Ice-T are dead, Bill Paxton is still alive and attempting to find his way out of the laberynthian factory where the gold was. Only to find his car TRASHED! And he now has no way of getting out!

Enter Ice Cube with C4 package.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

11:21 - Ice Cube and his pimpish adversary are both dead, and Art Evans is making a run for it with the gold. Bill Paxton has just seen his friend's corpse blown up, and Art Evans has tricked him into leaving the gold with him.

Homeless to richness. The American Dream, in HBO form.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

Four days of this, huh?

oh, i was in this spot some years ago. it REALLY SUCKS.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

You got it, Elmo. Hopefully, some more exciting things to report, but maybe not.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

haven't seen trespass in years. all i remember is that the homeless dude that ice-t, ice cube, and bill paxton kept shouting "fuck you man! fuck you!!" a lot.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Alls I can say is God bless HBO On Demand - watching The Sopranos sixth season.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

are you employed?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

1:30 - Things accomplished today
1. dishes from dinner/breakfast
2. laundry
3. measured the house for impending hanging of Christmas lights
4. Watched Trespass
5. Watched one episode (thus far) of The Sopranos
6. Sent out about five resumes.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry - 1:05 -

7. Rearranged the bedroom

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

Teeny - I am currently trying to find a job, but without a bar passage, I'm having a hard time finding full-time employment. Temping is catch-as-catch-can.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

:( good luck!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

I will be in your position next September (IL posts bar results on 10/1).

GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

Good luck!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the good wishes, folks. I'll be here until at least 6:15 on Friday night. Keep the good vibes coming.

Advice for bar takers - fuck the stress. Study the subjects, and take as many practice exams as possible in the time that you have. Don't over work/over stress yourself, and make sure you have cable or a lot of television series on DVD - you will need the half hour to hour breaks where your brain does nada. Other than that, if you've graduated from law school (especially an ABA acredited one, but it doesn't really matter...), you can pass any bar exam with a consistent study program for the two months leading up to it.

3pm - If you all haven't seen Rob and Big, you need to watch it ASAMFP. Its absolutely hilarious.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

so glad i studied law in australia. no bar exam! mwahaha. of course there is the matter of 12 months articled clerkship. but still. no bar exam!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:04 (nineteen years ago)

4pm - Now watching Broken Flowers. Dead pan Bill Murray is...interesting in his effect upon my mood.

I am, by the way, avoiding any and all temptation to get drunk while I await these long-overdue exam results.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

why? once you get full time employment your opportunities for extended boozin' benders diminish considerably. may as well make the most of it i say!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:07 (nineteen years ago)

this thread would be more interesting if you were wasted

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

fritz otm. do it for the good of all.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

Lets keep that for later on in the week. It will probably happen.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, fuck it....first drink poured - vodka and sparkling grapefruit from Trader Joe's. Can't get drunk yet, though...may be going bowling a little later. Currently averaging ~125, but this is up from way down.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:29 (nineteen years ago)

cheers!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

Also, to clarify...I will need to drive to go bowling, hence no drunky for me yet.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

can't you stumble to bowling?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

Nay...about 6 to 7 miles away. Long, long stumble.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 01:22 (nineteen years ago)

I am now home from bowling, and a little drunk. 7 minutes until John Stewart on the Daily Show, and...3 days to go, functionally. Got a friend who's dropping off a video/video game care package tomorrow, and I'll be drankin' tomorrow.

Stay tuned. This might get interesting. Might.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 06:54 (nineteen years ago)

6:19 - Couldn't sleep. Watching ESPN and having a non-alkie drink.

I wish I could sleep in, but it just ain't workin'.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

8:54 - just got back up. Went back to bed about 5 minutes after posting last.

Still Wednesday.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

9:35 - just had an apple fritter for breakfast. mmmMMMMM!

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

This thread is utterly fascinating.

Good luck.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

10am - Watching Talk Radio with Eric Bogosian and Alec Baldwin.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

What'd you roll last night?

lk (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

I want an apple fritter, too!

(xpost to above tortuous reference to said food item)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

I rolled a ~125, a forty-fucking-seven, and then an eighty.

I am not the best of bowlers, and I am WAAAAYYYY out of practice. I think with another three or four times I'll have my release down, and will regularly roll over 130.

Yeah...in my mind, apple fritters are the highest form of fried goods.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

Also - one of the guys I went bowling with last night "grew up" in a bowling alley. At some point or another during his adolesence, every member of his family (except his dad) worked at said bowling alley, to the point that a lot of his friends thought his family owned it. So, after high school, he joined the Navy for a four year stint, paid his way through college bowling, and now works with my wife at a tech company while auditioning for plays and other drama-related things out here in LA. And is the nicest dude ever. Fascinating guy.

So, watching him bowl last night made me realize that I may not have that much command over anything, and certainly not bowling. Amazing stuff. Wild curves, like strings of six and seven strikes in a row...crazy.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Maria :D (Maria D.), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

So, Talk Radio was typically Oliver Stone subtle.

What's next? What do the cable gods have to offer me?

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

how did i just discover this thread now??

Smegma Pi (plsmith), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, dude. Welcome to the party.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

So, now I'm watching Quest for Fire starring Ron Perlman and Rae Dawn Daughter of Tommy Chong.

The "humans" have been attacked by a lower form of humanoids, and now they are on the run.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

12:04 - Oh SHIT! Wolf attack!

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

quest for fire? dude, go outside and walk on the beach and take pics!

Smegma Pi (plsmith), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

I live nowhere near the beach.

But - you're right. I should get the fuck out the house.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

Do you have a digital camera on the premesis? The quality of this thread would be greatly improved if you could provide us with some Ned-Ragget-Dinner style photos of what this week looks like.

Your dog is not what I would have expected.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Abigail was my wife's dog, initially. She is an 11 year old Yorkie, who the missus has had since puppyhood. She has nuzzled her cute little way into my heart, however, and is now our dog.

And yes - she gets me a lot of attention from the ladies.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

What a great dog!! Are you sure you don't live on my street? There is a nice old man who walks his dog who looks a lot like yours at "when Bhumibol is late for work"-o-clock.

Not that you are old - you are probably nice! - and not that you live in London!

But sometimes the world is strange.

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

This is my street, yesterday around 2pm or so -

Not London. Pasadena, CA.

lovely. get out of the house today! It looks awesome out there.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

I will. I am taking the little dog to the dog groomer. I will take many pictures from the trip, and post them here.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

So CA doesn't stand for "CAmden"? Ah well.

It looks like you live in a sunny place! I have read in teen books set in California that people go to the beach and lament how they will never get a white christmas (unless it is that episode of Buffz0r when Angel is about to go kill himself at sunrise but FOILED cos it stays dark and snowy chiz chiz cue more Boreanz bad acting for years'n'years). Imagine!

I still can't get over the dog. Brilliant. I keep seeing a beige PUG being walked around Bloomsbury, sometimes with a little black pug friend. Once, the beige pug was wearing a pearl necklace! Best thing ever. Post dog grooming pictures!

Bhumibol Adulyadej (Lucretia My Reflection), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

I will not make a spectacle of the dog while be groomed - this is not some haircut scene from a war movie or some such indignity...

http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:OBoD-RZ9Gjw0gM:http://www.marines.cc/images/stories/articles/pi4.jpg

But I certainly will post post-grooming pics.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Also, being a native East Coaster, I am lamenting the lack of winter weather. But then I walk down the street in the 70 degree sun in mid-November, and all is good in my heart.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

SO very nice to be out of the house.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

Alright - so, as I was leaving, my buddy dropped off the videos, and I need some help choosing. From memory, I think these are the ones he dropped off -

- A Bridge Too Far
- Jackie Brown
- Heat
- Bullitt
- Easy Rider
- Ravenous

I may be missing one or two...

What to watch first? HELP ME!!!

(obviously, pictures of the dog when she is finished.)

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Also - I am sitting at a coffee shop awaiting the dog's grooming being done, and I am listening to some brunching (on a THURSDAY morning) ladies' book club. The selection: The Devil Wears Prada.

Direct Quotes:
- "The part when she was asked to suck on his....well, I can't even have this book in my house!"
- "A Middle Schooler could have written this book!"

And then they stopped talking about books, and started comparing high school application information.

Wow. Get a better book - and let your kid be a kid, for Christ's sake.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously - 30 min and counting, and they've talked about the book for approx. 4 min. Amazing.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

When you get a job, buy your own bowling ball and shoes (if you haven't already). I bought a ball used for $20 and you'd be surprised how high you can score if you know what your ball is going to do ("high" for me is like 175).

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

Totally in the plan, especially given that a few alleys around here have discount nights. Like $.50 a game per person!

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

wow $.50!

lk (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 16 November 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but only on Tuesdays, and only if you get there to start by 6pm. Pretty damn good deal.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

Do not freak out. Attempt to remain calm. Use alcohol or downers if necessary.

The bookclub you overheard sounds like my book club (well, except that we are all for the profanity, sex and violence in our books; one of our only rules was "no dead babies" in the story). We quit reading books together, though, in favor of telling our own obnoxious stories, loudly, in public places.

Once I heard a woman going on and on about how great The Bridges of Madison County is in a restaurant. I had a hard time suppressing gales of laughter.

researching ur life (grady), Friday, 17 November 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

First drink poured.

Four hours to go. Fuck, I just want to know, one way or another. I really don't care at this point. FUCK!!!!!

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

what drink?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 17 November 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

A concoction of my own creation...

Vodka and equal parts Trader Joe's sparkling grapefruit juice and orange juice.

Damn tasty, and taking the edge off of my hangover, to be sure.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

Drink two, poured.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

Drink three, poured.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Friday, 17 November 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 17 November 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

I LIKE YR STYLE

gbx (skowly), Friday, 17 November 2006 23:21 (nineteen years ago)

two hours 35 minutues to go! you can finish the bottle by then!

researching ur life (grady), Friday, 17 November 2006 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

1:45 to go. This is really getting horrible.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, you don't want to be a lawyer anyway.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 18 November 2006 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

Probably true.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

Won't the system crash when so many people log in to see their results?

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 18 November 2006 01:01 (nineteen years ago)

heck yeah. But that's part of the fun, isn't it?

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 01:17 (nineteen years ago)

you cant get this negative so late in the game!!!!!

this is the home stretch!!!!

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 01:19 (nineteen years ago)

The hay is in the barn, as my pops would say.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

That's the vodka talkin'.

Or the grapefruit juice.

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

No - I mean that what is done is done. I'll know the result in about a half hour.

Smegma Pi (plsmith), Saturday, 18 November 2006 02:20 (nineteen years ago)

It doesn't make sense otherwise. No one learns nothing, 'dude'.

just sayin fuck off

Smegma Pi (plsmith), Saturday, 18 November 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

Obviously what is better for the thread is not better for Big Lord Mountain Ape. And in theory too I think that the world may be a better place if Big Lord Mountain Ape succeeds and this thread fails.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Saturday, 18 November 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

No offence, Smegma Pi. The world would be less pretty without the likes of you.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Saturday, 18 November 2006 02:56 (nineteen years ago)

surely he's calling friends and family with the news, right?

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

it's pretty irresponsible to make this thread and have us all sitting here for four days and then leave us hanging like this an hour after we were supposed to know something.

maybe the bar's server is jammed and he's stuck trying to get the results to load for the last hour.

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 03:01 (nineteen years ago)

viz the My Roomate is Loudly Having Sex on My Couch thread?

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Saturday, 18 November 2006 04:13 (nineteen years ago)

that thread was 15 minutes of buildup and then 1000 posts of punch.

this thread is four days of buildup and then nothing.

OTM

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

I appreciate the support, you all. It appears that, come next June, we will be doing this type of thread again.

Unless I am reading the website incorrectly, I did not pass.

Immediately after getting the "result," I went and saw Casino Royale , which was awesome.

See you next week, Pete.

LOCK THREAD!

researching ur life (grady), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so sorry to hear that; it sucks, no doubt about it. Hang in there...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

Post-script, and this is the last I'm doing on this thread -

Just knowing the result is actually a relief. I mean, it sucks that I have to take it again, but at least I know now. The four months of waiting fucking sucked. I am going to sleep so well tonight.

I'll do another of these in about six months.

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:31 (nineteen years ago)

Best of luck next time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 November 2006 06:32 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, Ned. I look forward to meeting you sometime soon.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Saturday, 18 November 2006 08:05 (nineteen years ago)

if it makes you feel better, the reason why I am neither a notary or a driver is because I've failed the written so many times I gave up. +1 i owe you a beer anyway, duder. ravens still #1 not bros in my book tho.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Saturday, 18 November 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

ps if "next week" does not involve me I dunno if you will get yr beer but remind me, yo.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Saturday, 18 November 2006 08:17 (nineteen years ago)

Ally, if I can squeeze in any time with the Millars, I will. If for no other reason than to show the missus that my "internet friends" are actual friends, and not just some randoms.

I appreciate the encouragement, too. Thanks. Bit of a downer, but I gotta tell you...much better to know than to be waiting.

Ravens Rule...especially in Madden '07.

Ditto. I'm sorry, too, but I'm glad that you can sleep well again.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Saturday, 18 November 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

:(

Well that sucks, but when you go at it again, you'll know better what you're up against. And your random cheering section will still be clamoring away :)

Next time I'm down in Irvine (possibly after T-giving but currently up in the air), there should be a bowling FAP or something.

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 18 November 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

B.L.A.M. (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Saturday, 18 November 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

If for no other reason than to show the missus that my "internet friends" are actual friends, and not just some randoms.

Quite right. And like Jaq said, we should try and work something out here for the first weekend in December, perhaps, time allowing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 18 November 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Better luck next time!

Maria :D (Maria D.), Saturday, 18 November 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)
