i can't believe that natasha didn't get sent home. actually, i was shocked that she was selected in the first place. she's wearing 4" stilettos the whole time and still looks like a munchkin. perhaps they want her around for the drama of being a mail-order bride? i'm likewise surprised that diana got picked. she's got a nice figure, but her complexion and eyes are so dull.

brittany looked pretty stunning in her photo this week, though.

i was sad to see kathleen go, too. the thing is, that photo shoot was incomprehensible! while kathleen obviously was obviously VERY dizzy, basically everyone blew the shoot because no one had any idea what the hell they were supposed to be doing. very poorly conceived and very poorly directed, even by the standards of antm.

i totally know tyra's not fat in any way (except that she's not a size 2 or 3) and the plus size models are not fat either in my opinion, in fact they make many of the other girls look just malnourished and weird. i was just having fun, did not meant ot ruffle feathers.

guessing about how much this stuff is rigged before and how much it's not is interesting to me, including the idea that there might have been some sort of directive to include plus size models for the first time, as they'd always been shut out before. then there are certain people you know the producers are going to keep in the show for a while b/c they provide tension, drama, etc., but that's another thing entirely...

long as i'm rambling i might as well continue right? so, sometimes i watch and for a few minutes i forget that the whole point of this show is:

1) to humiliate the girls, to freeze them in ice water or on runways that collapse under their feet or send them running in high heels over cobblestones, etc. -- the other people on the show say this is what models go through every day, and that might be true, but i'd venture to say it's the reason the show is successful, and why it exists. not that this is an "original" thought in any way of course)

2) and of course to show how whatever they may be going through, queen tyra the great has also gone through that, back in the '80s when everything was harder, and she was the first and you should never forget it.

my initial two little posts might have been mean/ catty or whatever, but i find i enjoy the show the most when neither of those things are happening, either in the less sadistic challenges or just in-between them and the Great Judging event (which must be written by how many people after the fact?) -- but i still feel really uneasy in my enjoyment of the show. okay i shut up now.

robin from season one (come on guys, original antm villain here!) was 'plus size' and she made it to the last 4. remember when they got dressed in couture and went out in paris w/ those hot guys and she sat there reading her bible because she didn't approve?!

but yes, i'm sure that there was some push to include plus sizers in the final group and keep them around a while longer than usual this time around. the fact that there are still 2 in the running and one of them is so terribly not good at modeling screams of producer directives.

ohh yeah i forgot about her making it that far -- i'm a bit hazy on 1-4 as i didn't start watching until the very end of 4, and watching the old ones in out of sync reruns doesn't cut it.

which one was the most boring? would that be season 2, where at the end the final three were all totally sweet and nice and just complimenting each other? i can see why they'd make sure to keep at least one mean/ crazy person around until the end to make it more compelling, in its way.

whitney is awesome (and overall to me the sexiest) but every time it's judging time, twiggy says "she's not a model!" so i feel weird about rooting for her when i just feel like she's just not really got that much of a chance... also 'cause she was almost axed tonight.
judges love jaslene but no one else does (not as universally/ justly disliked as renee but still...) -- i wonder if jaslene will win? girl needs a sandwich.
tonight's episode was the first time i really dug natasha; she was pretty awesome in that shoot, too. she has a crazy face but i think i'm starting to dig her, now that her personality seems to come out a bit. kind of want to see what her husband is like -- who knows, maybe he's ANOTHER guy from the shins?!

I've wanted to like Sarah from episode 1 because pixies are fatal for me, but is she ever a lot of all talk, no walk? Showing how she brazenly took credit for Dionne's wardrobe decisions is not a cool move, and I'm guessing that there's other douchey things that she's done that hasn't made the air yet because we're on the Hate Renee Train for the nonce.

I like Jael because she's the underdog, but no way she's getting any farther than top 4. Tyra's going to flashback to some other marble-mouthed rocker chick from, oh, the first cycle and realize JAEL NO WAI.

I haven't been rooting for Whitney much so far because she's been guilty of associating w/ Renee -- but at the elimination panel there was a shot of her in profile, and what a profile! I don't know that she can break the post-Elyse BRANEY GIRL jinx, though.

I'm starting to wonder if I psyched myself out with Renee cos now I have trouble hating her in this post-ironic state that I'm in -- I wanted a villain and now I can't root against her which is the fun of villains! :(

fun facts about naima: she lived in my old neighborhood, and i would see her around a lot. she was a regular at the bistro around the corner from me, where she would usually have a gigantic sugary martini kind of thing and a tiny cup of soup. she had deepak chopra books with her a few times, which cracked me up. she must be quite short, really, as even in 3-4" heels it didn't seem like she hit 5'10".

i think jaslene keeps taking good pictures, though she is a bit harsh. also the boniness bugs me.

They are all so terrible this year. I don't know. Renee seems to be the most competent, but she's also been shown as an awful human being which is usually not what most people are looking for to win this thing. Natasha's a space cadet and has that weird ass backstory which just causes automatic cringiness, but she's got something sort of insanely endearing about her. And Jaslene takes a bunch of piss-poor pictures, but also a bunch of amazing ones (and not really any in between) and she has that "I WAS RAISED BY RU PAUL" thing going on thing too.

If I had to guess I'd say Jaslene as her personality/backstory is the least creepy, but really I have no idea.

Dani(elle) actually got her CoverGirl contract renewed (the first ANTM winner ever to do so), and is in a new ad for CoverGirl eyewere as well as a commercial with Tiuu and Queen Latifah that plays on TV all the time. So she's doing pretty well.

I love Renée, I want her to win. Everyone keeps saying she looks old.. hmm.. I dunno, she DOES look older than she is, but really all of them look old so... Natasha and Jaslene are too short (both of them are 5'7, Renée is 5'10), Natasha has nice features, but she has no neck... Jaslene has an ass-chin...

Jay has said that he and Tyra both went into some Virgin Megastore in LA and randomly autographed some of the DVDs.

I agree that this season is of quality, but falls short of cycle 1 and cycle 6 sublimeness. No super-awesome girls this cycle, just a gaggle of interesting reality weirdos: Dionne was cool and didn't mince words because she wasn't no freakin lesbo; Natasha the b-boy!; and Jael, when she wasn't commenting on race, was marvelously unhinged. This season's villain has also been rehabilitated into the human race, which makes me sad. I rilly hope that Renee does something spectacularly heinous in the finale.
