ILX0rpoLOLooza London 2007 Planning Thread

OK, because discussion of this is going on about 3 different threads right now.

The idea is to plan a giant gig with a whole load of ILX bands. We're thinking of doing it on a Sunday at the Windmill in Brixton, because then we can run all day (6 or 7 bands) and also they do a fabulous BBQ during the summer months.

If you are interested in playing, then please let us know here. We're going to try to schedule for May or June but this depends on what the Windmill has available, really!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

Dr. C was saying on the other thread that June would be better for him, 'cause his band can't record until April. We're the same; won't be recording 'til mid-April at least, so don't know when our track will be ready for the comp.

But I'm not sure ilxorpalooza needs to be so tightly tied to the comp. Why does it need to be?

G00blar, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe it doesn't.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:14 (eighteen years ago)

Not too worried about it co-inciding w/the album, but I'm def. up for playing, May or June, Sunday preferred.

Pashmina, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, I'm asking Tim now if 1) we can do it and 2) when he has available in May or June.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

I am asking band #2 what dates they can do.

I do think that it would be a shame if we didn't have the album to launch, give out or flog at the event.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'd agree really, isn't this a bit of self-promotion as well? I mean that everyone is doing this to raise their profile a little. Or at least that's how I understand it.

PS. that self-promotion isn't aimed at anyone! Just to make that clear.

kv_nol, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

What are gigs, *except* self promotion? You talk about this like it's a bad thing!

On the bizarre offchance the the comp is not finished by June (come on, people, how long does it take to record a song? None of you are MBV!) ... well, maybe we should make it some kind of benefit. Maybe we should do that anyway? Either to offset the production and distribution costs of the compilation.. or else... DONATE THE MONEY TO THE ILX SERVER FUND?

that said, this is dependent on the bands - especially those who would be travelling to get there. It's easy for me to sign away getting paid when I only live a mile away. (We will provide as much backline as possible to keep travelling costs down, but obviously this does not apply if you live in, say Newcastle.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

yes please!

i can do WHENEVER. may will be really good for me, also sunday june 10th is actually my BIRTHDAY so that would also be rocking. in fact that would be my most favourite date for this.

if it is to be late june please 2 not clashed with glastonbury weekend..

ken c, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

**(come on, people, how long does it take to record a song? None of you are MBV!) **

Heh - I'd do it tomorrow if it was down to me, but organizing band #2 is like herding cats.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

Yay!

I cannot do the 10th June due to I will be in Paris, though. Sorry! The only weekend in the whole two months I absolutely cannot do.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

sunday june 10th is actually my BIRTHDAY

and the 9th is mine so i'm well up for that weekend an' all. also, between-band deejays? or maybe even a separate deejay bit out in the back garden? just thinking, like.

CharlieNo4, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

What weekend is Glasto? Sorry, I do not know these things.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

And obviously Poptimism DJs get first dibs on the decks, but we can schedule that as well.

Please no DJing in the garden - it's the place you get to go to escape the music. Also, I'm sure they probably have zoning regulations and neighbour complaints so they dont' have music outside.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

glasto sunday is 24th June

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:59 (eighteen years ago)

I think we can squeeze chuck in. Plus the poptimisim crew will have to come from their live radio broadcast.

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

Glasto is 22-24.

I'm OK for 17th I think.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

June 17th looking good all round? (still waiting to hear.)

They don't have June schedule up yet so I've no idea if it's free or booked. (they may do a pre-Glasto warmup, but I would imagine they'd do that on the Saturday.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

Lineup, in no particular order:

Shimura curves
V1etgrove
Dr C.'s band number 2
G00blar
red bull dozers
TISSP/Cityseventeen

DJs:
Groke
Carsmile
Barnet Ape
Charlie No4

Anyone else?

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

Watercoolooza!!

g-kit, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

No, this is why we took discussion off the watercooler - to open it up to anyway. If you want to play, go ahead and volunteer your band!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

We should set up a web link and have the Fake Accents, Chaki, Ned etc. phone theirs in.

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, I could get hold of a projector and we can have Ned's head 6ft high saying 'Hi, I'm Ned Ragget and I approve of this festival"

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

that is the single most disturbing idea i've ever heard...

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

But still, kinda... GRATE.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yes please to DJing.

Matt DC, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

OK, while it's open, I'd like to add my 'act' such as it isn't right now, but might well be!

Mark G, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

Grout and the Groutlings?

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

ALICE AND AMBER ALL STAR JAM!!!

(but do not let G-kit near them)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

We DEMAND to have the Groutlings play. They be, like, the next Smoosh!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

Now I'm really really scared!

Mark G, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not a fucking paedo.

g-kit, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

yes, but you would nick their guitars!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, that's a point!

Mark G, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

Don't panic, I won't be there.

g-kit, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

:-(

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

17th June is free, but Tim wants links for the bands! Will try to grab them off MySpace. But who else is up for it?

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm up for it. Links:
www.myspace.com/vietgrove
www.vietgrove.com

Pashmina, Monday, 5 March 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

Have emailed you back Kate.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

See, now I'm getting the Ph34r that none of them bands on their own have a "draw" but based on the lack of major FAP action recently, I know (hope?) that people would come down anyway*. But how do you prove that?

*at least, I hope that they would. And that people are viewing this as an ILX event/FAP rather than any individual bands' gig...

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Realistically, we'd probably draw 10-15ppl?

Pashmina, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

We will bring 30-ish at least who have never heard of ILX. Maybe more.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, that was clumbsy and also an x-post, not an implication against any bands' "draw" but you know what it's like dealing with promoters, even though Tim is not like this at all.

I want to be realistic and rather than say "oh yeah, G00blar will bring 50 people an Dr. C #2 will bring another 50 and Shimura Curves will bring a million..." but the hook is that it's an ILX mega-FAP rather than any individual gig.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, there will potentially loads of ILXers who will come to the EVENT, who wouldn't come to any of the individual bands.

What;s the capacity there?

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

God, I have no idea, it's an odd space, so it looks full even when there are, like, 20 people - but I've seen them pack in 150/200 people (I'm sure there were that many on Saturday.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

So is it 17th then?

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

17th June is free - he just has to decide if he wants to give it to us or not!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

Tentatively in for the 17th (must check w/ band obvs, but also the scheduling of my AMERICAN STAG.)

G00blar, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

x-post They really shouldn't worry about us filling the place up.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

I mean worry that we WON'T fill it.

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

If any of you pull out I WILL MURDER YOU, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND KILL YOU, I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE, ETC.*

*OK, not really. But still.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

**pull out**

means we're in?

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

I reserve the right to pull out due to being hopelessly in over my head, but seeing as we'd draw two people, probably, um, we're not exactly going to headline, right?

Mark G, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

No, not yet. Obviously this depends on our getting the place in the first place.

If he says no, the other alternative is, we could hire somewhere? But then there would not be BBQ.

(I cannot overstate the importance of Windmill BBQ.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

(I am not actually going to murder anyone, I am joking around.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

red bull dozers can most probably bring around between 10-20 people. if i really make an effort then perhaps 30.

ken c, Monday, 5 March 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

"really make an effort" i.e. whore myself out.

ken c, Monday, 5 March 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

I have absolutely no doubt that an ILX FAP by itself could pack the venue out, even without bands pimping themselves out. Unless of course you want to. ;-)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

oh good! i will prolly just mention it briefly in some of the various internet hobbies I frequent, but then again that's more or less of the whole of the internet...

ken c, Monday, 5 March 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

I can't play live, but I'll try and come along. I can shift the remaining ILX comp vol 1 & 2 CDs!

Though if anyone wants to do a toy instrument jam, I'll bring along my accordian, casio vl-tone, glockenspiel and my rap and sing keyboard!

jel --, Monday, 5 March 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

I can't play live, but I'll try and come along. I can shift the remaining ILX comp vol 1 & 2 CDs!

Jel -- I'd love one of both if they're still floating around. The email below works with obvious changes if you'd like to arrange something.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

Now about my six foot head.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:06 (eighteen years ago)

Still haven't heard back from the venue.

Though after last night, I really want to investigate booking/hiring the Hoxton Bar and Grill. Have not had their food, but the sound there is GRATE. I bet it costs a bomb, though.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:50 (eighteen years ago)

They have a regular sunday club, it seems. I would like to work with the talented and hott sound-lady.

Ed, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

I got her number.

G00blar, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

You playahs!

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)

I would have talked to her, but I was broken.

Ed, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

No news from the venue?

Dr.C, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Kate was have her alien growth looked at today.

Ed, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

Sent another email to the venue today.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

is there a fallback venue should windmill falls through?

ken c, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

Don't know. Any suggestions? I mean, honestly, I don't have any "ins" at any other venues.

Also, we may have to pay up front to hire a venue (and try to make it back on the door) - would anyone be willing to front some cash? (this is the only way to keep control over the door policy and not get shafted by some promoter.)

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

YEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are on! The Windmill, Brixton, Sunday 17th June.

Who's in? Dr. C? Gooblar? TISSP!? Ken C? Mark G? teh-Kit? Giant floating head of Ned?

If you are in, please could you email me contact name, email and mobile number.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

Also, who should I email to get in touch with teh POPTIMIST DJ's?

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Rah, I can't wait.

Ed, Thursday, 15 March 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

if webmail on ilx2 works, then i've emailed you kate.

ken c, Friday, 16 March 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, I got yer email, Ken! Thanks!

I am keeping a spreadsheet - I still need G00blar to confirm!

Masonic Boom, Friday, 16 March 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

So far the people whose confirmations emails I have got:

A Nation Mourns
Vietgrove
Red Bull Dozers
Shimura Curves (natch)
Poptimist DJs (at least Carsmile and Pete confirmed)

If yer not on the list, yer not coming in, etc. blah blah.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 16 March 2007 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

Is this the Red Bull Bozers featuring famous Fraggle Barry Krishna?

Ed, Friday, 16 March 2007 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

I feel like doing something silly like doing a grab-bag cover... put all the names of the people in a hat and pull them out at random, and the newly assembled ILX Supergroups have to do a cover together - not sure if they all have to do different versions of the same song, or if they get to pick their own songs or what...

I like the idea that each band has to get a member of another band onstage for at least one song.

Any other takers for this notion, or is it too much like enforced fun?

Masonic Boom, Friday, 16 March 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

MORE enforced fun!

G00blar, Friday, 16 March 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not wild about those ideas. I'd rather just play.

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno, sometimes it works. The RoTa Xmas party always had a rule that you had to play at least one Christmas Carol, and it was always interesting seeing who chose what.

I always like the idea of band member swapping, but hey, I'm a hippie, we'll probably end up with everyone in the place onstage as a dancing boy at some point. I hope!

Masonic Boom, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:32 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G to be confirmed confirmed!

Masonic Boom, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

I always like the idea of band member swapping, but hey, I'm a hippie, we'll probably end up with everyone in the place onstage as a dancing boy at some point. I hope!

I like the idea of everyone does a cover, one they haven't done before.

For some reason, it popped into my head that G00blar and Kate should cover highway star by deep purple, had me wondering that.

Ed, Saturday, 17 March 2007 20:00 (eighteen years ago)

OK, with Hari's band, we now have ... !!!!! eight bands playing, so I think that's all we can handle.

I'm toying with the idea of having a little bit of an open mic beforehand, 1) so no one has to do the dreaded "go on first" and 2) so people who didn't get included in the bands booking (sorry, if you haven't confirmed by now, it's too late) can still get up and do a song.

In alphabetical order:

A Nation Mourns
City Seventeen
G00blar
Mark G and the Groutlings (name TBC)
Red Bull Dozers
Robotville
Shimura Curves
Vietgrove

No idea what the running order will be, that depends on what time the out of town bands can get here/have to leave, really. I was joking with Dr. C at the weekend, saying it might be whoever turns up first gets to soundcheck first and therefore headlines, to ensure promptness! (But that would hurt the out of town bands.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 19 March 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

If we can play in the evening rather than the afternoon, we can bring quite a few people, I guess 30-40. 8 or 9 would be ideal for us.

Dr.C, Monday, 19 March 2007 11:44 (eighteen years ago)

We will do our best to accomodate everyone, but please bear in mind this is an all day festival, everyone cannot headline!

(To be honest, *I'd* rather go on first and get it over with, but my band protest.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 19 March 2007 12:01 (eighteen years ago)

damn right ;-) 6 or 7 would be best for my public.

Ed, Monday, 19 March 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

When does the world tour start?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Monday, 19 March 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

I only just saw this!

Anyway, will come along, but if you need an extra band or anyone pulls out, let me know. (I know I don't post frequently enough for anyone to know who I am, but hi!)

Jamie T Smith, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

I spoke to my lot today. We will bring 40 people I think, at least.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Argh, mine head! We have too many bands!

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Minehead?

We on tour?

Mark G, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sorry, at the moment we have already filled all the available time! I'll put you on the list in case there are any drop-outs but right now, with eight bands booked, time is too tight.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

how long will the sets be?

ken c, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

No problem! I will come anyway. It sounds like fun.

Jamie T Smith, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Sets are half an hour at the most! We may have to have a stage manager to stand by the side of the stage with a hook.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 21 March 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

We are happy to go on early, since Chris has to get back to Cambridge ASAP. Can we make any arrangements for gear sharing btw? This would be really helpful to those of us coming on a train!

tissp, Thursday, 29 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

I think the idea was that the london bands do the gear for the rest. The Windmill has a guitar amp, a bass amp and a drumkit, bring your own snare and symbols, AFAIK.

Ed, Thursday, 29 March 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

That would be great. If we can borrow an extra guitar amp then we're all set.

tissp, Thursday, 29 March 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

At the very least I can bring the (Pb) LEAD back south of the river, although if G00blar or Dr C. has something more manoeuvrable I would prefer that.

Ed, Thursday, 29 March 2007 23:03 (eighteen years ago)

i will have a laptop with FL Studios, a guitar and a MICROKORG. you guys are welcome to use it.

is there a resident sound person at the windmill btw?

ken c, Friday, 30 March 2007 07:35 (eighteen years ago)

OK, cool. The LEAD has to come South of the river some time, Ed... I will be bringing some of my amps - obviously in a festival setting like this, it's ideal to share as much as possible.

There is a resident sound man at the Windmill, yes. I am under the impression that his name is Pete but as he never answers to that, either I have had his name wrong for years, or he is as deaf as a P.O.S.T. as soundmans are wont.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 30 March 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

it's just that i am not very good with setting up stuff in a LIVE GIG setting so may need some hand-holding...

especially what i've got in mind with the vocals.

ken c, Friday, 30 March 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I don't think I realised that ken was playing. I am most definitely THERE.

emil.y, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

Emily, do you want to be a Shimura Curve for the day? All of our songs are in G or D or C and you can just drone along on one note. I'll send you a CD of the backing tracks if you're up for it.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

We will bring drums (although may use in-house kit if that's easier), LOUD Marshall, and obv guitars and keybds. We will need to borrow a bass amp as the old Vox is sick and may not be mended before then. But I think you said there's an in-house bass amp, Kate? We don't need anything fancy - just LOUD.

Btw - I can't remember the timings but we would play anytime from 5 to 9 if poss. We don't mind being first on.

Will there need to be tickets? - we are bringing shitloads of people it now seems and I want them to be able to get in!

Dr.C, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

Ooh, that sounds good. I think I'll be catching a train up there, though, so unless you've got a spare synth it might be a hassle to take my lovely Pro-one and make good sounds. I'll practise carrying it around to see. Definitely send a CD, though - I can always find a lighter keyboard.

emil.y, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, there is an in-house bass amp. No idea how loud it is, though. The Windmill isn't very large, remember that, you don't need a huge amp. If you are bringing your marshall then I will not bring mine.

There will probably be tickets - when I confirm the final lineup with Tim (which I should do soon) I will ask him to put it on advance tix.

Emily email me yr snail mail address to masonicboom - at - yahoo.co.uk pls and I will send you CD! Will talk to Frances or Joe to see if you can borrow one of their keyboards. Actually, AMPy would probably let you borrow hers. I will ask her.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

I just sent you a webmail - does that work? Or shall I send it to your other address instead?

emil.y, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh! Webmails never include the sender's email address, so I couldn't write you back is the reason I said mail me direct, but I'll check and see.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

I did get it, thanks!

I am just trying to make sure that I have email and mobile number for everyone who is going to be *playing* and then I will talk to Tim.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

If you are bringing your marshall then I will not bring mine.

Oh I would definitely bring yrs too - it would be much better with a spare and also the fan has been known to pack up on mine.

Dr.C, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

I am most definitely THERE.

yay!

ken c, Saturday, 7 April 2007 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

I'm quite possibly considering coming down for this. I shall see how my weekend goes in a couple of weeks, and how much money I have! Three London trips in one year!

It occurs to me that I have never seen the Red Bull Dozers. This is so wrong...

ailsa, Sunday, 8 April 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

it's true! considering that so far they have played exclusively in glasgow..

ken c, Sunday, 8 April 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

SHOULD I COME PLAY AT THIS?

chaki, Sunday, 8 April 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

Chaki rox!!!

Sarah, Sunday, 8 April 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...
Two months later...

OK! We should get moving on this! Sunday 17th June!

I'm going to need some organisational help with this - basically need a stage manager (or two) to try to coordinate things that weekend and on the day.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

I note that there's nothing on the Brixton Windmill website yet.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

No, I've just emailed him again to try and remind him. Never heard back from that 14th March email. I know he has trouble with his email - that things often end up in the bulkmail box. Bah.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

Why is it that venue guys 'never get' or 'have trouble with' e-mails all the flippin' time.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

No, Tim is lovely. But disorganised, as I'm sure he would be the first to admit. I don't think there's anything underhanded about it at all.

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

there is absolutely 0 underhanded about tim

emsk, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

No, I wasn't suggesting there was. But there's always something with promoters.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

See, he has got back to me now. I need a MySpace and a line or two about each of the bands for the website.

I think I have MySpaces for everyone, but the descriptions. Would it be more fun for the bands themselves to write their own lines?

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

I have emailed everyone involved, please could you get the info back to me by Friday?

Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

At this point, I'm more on the side of the promoters, when dealing with FLAKEY BANDS who don't respond to emails.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Did you get my email?

Dr.C, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Mine's coming today!

G00blar, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like I can't go to this wedding on the 16th becaus eI can't make it back in time on the 17th. SO I can be a bit more helpful.

Would you like me to coordinate backline. i.e. what do people need, which of windmill, Shimuras, ANM and G00blar will provide what? how will it get there? When will it need to leave? etc.

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

I got Dr. C's. Not to mention no names, but I'm looking at you, G00blar and Pash!

Are you sure about this, Ed? I don't want you to have to miss a wedding. But I could sure do with the help.

I know that the Windmill has:
-most of a drumkit
-bass amp
-guitar amp

Beyond that we should share as much backline as possible because changeovers are going to be really tight. If they go over 20 minutes, then they're going to eat into the set time, and thats already only 30 minutes.

I can already tell scheduling is going to be a nightmare. Everyone wants to go on at the same time.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

We can bring two (2) guitar amps, and no bass amp or drums. xpost good

G00blar, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

There is no way I can get to the wedding and get back for the gig and the gig was the prior commitment. More fool people for getting married in damned silly innaccessible places.

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

Just remember there is not a lot of space at the Windmill for storing gear - we're going to have a hard time with just guitars and keyboards and gigbags for 8 bands! So the less guitar amps hanging around, seriously, the better.

x-post cool.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

I thought I'd cracked it but GNER were lying about train times.

Don't the windmill have that shed for gear storage?

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

I can only speak for myself when I say that I have no problem NOT bringing my amp. I was just saying what we can offer.

G00blar, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

The shed out the back? Have you ever tried getting gear from the shed to the stage when the place is full of people? Doesn't work.

There's the disabled toilet but it's frowned on, keeping gear in there, for obvious reasons. (And, err, pissed on.)

x-post cool.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just touchy after the last "OK, we'll bring the amp!" and then we lug it all the way there and no one knows how on earth to use a tube amp debacle.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

Understood.

Email sent.

G00blar, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

All bands are max 2 guitars and 1 bass, I think, although I'm not sure about c17.

I will have one more try about trying to shot this wedding but I think I a scuppered because of Britain's insitance that no one could possibly want to travel anywhere on a sunday.

I'm just touchy after the last "OK, we'll bring the amp!" and then we lug it all the way there and no one knows how on earth to use a tube amp debacle.

Anyone doing this will be made to go on stage wearing nothing but lime green loafers...

... with tassles.

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously though, I don't think we will have these problems because people will listen when owners of gear say it works best like this.

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

I hope!

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still riled by that guy. He was an indellible twat who would rather spend who know what in time and cab fares to get his amp after sound check that listen to the person who owned the amp. (Probably didn't help that the person was female and a better guitarist).

Ed, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Well, fortunately there will be no twats at ILX Fest! (I hope!) We know pretty much everyone who's playing, so I think it will be a lot more friendly.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

Mornin'

We need two amps & drum kit. If there's a direct in for the Powerbook then all the better, but this is not essential. We are trying our best to travel light.

tissp, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

We will probably send round a "what are your exact sound needs" email closer to the event. I know that the Windmill never ever does this, but we're here to organise things better. Like the space programme. Or, err, something.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

NASA-licious

tissp, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Now we just need another country to have a space race with.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

Ethiopia seems like a safe bet

tissp, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think there are any ILXors there!

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 3 May 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

there used to be, didn't there? can't remember his name now...

glad to see everything going along swimmingly, i have to see my mum off at the station on the sunday, but i guess that won't be too late in the afternoon so i can just jump on the vicky line down to brixtong once she's gone.

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 3 May 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still in for remote presentations, as it were.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 May 2007 15:00 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, the herding of cats is a serious matter, it isn't just one of your holiday games.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 4 May 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

will there be a keyboard stand somewhere at the windmill? (one on which a microkorg would sit?)

ken c, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sure that there will be a keyboard stand. Not least because we need one as well.

Masonic Boom, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

I recall them having loads.

Ed, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

OK, it looks like we will be able to have advance tickets for this!

But we will not be releasing all the tickets that way, so there will definitely be places for people who just want to shuffle down on that afternoon.

I am going to make a poster/flyers this weekend.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:22 (eighteen years ago)

I am going to sit back and watch tv.

G00blar, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

"Better bring your frieee-eeee-eeeends, better bring your friends."

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

the bands won't need to get a ticket right?

ken c, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)

No, you do not need a ticket if you are in one of the bands!

This is for lazy arses who can't be bothered to come down early in the afternoon to see all the bands, and only want to come later and see one band in specific. ;-P

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 10 May 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

have we got a schedule already btw?

will be good for planning the set to play..

ken c, Thursday, 10 May 2007 10:39 (eighteen years ago)

I will figure that out soon, maybe at the weekend. Some people still haven't got back to me about what time they can get there or have to leave.

I'll email another email later today about arrangements.

But the good news is, we have a Stage Manager for the night now, so I will be able to refer scheduling queries to her. Hurrah!

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 10 May 2007 10:43 (eighteen years ago)

Tentative schedule has now been emailed out, so let the complaints and Diva-esque tantrums begin! Ha ha! ;-)

Also, it's up on the website so may as well let you guys know (even though the UK has gone to the pub for the evening) that there are advance tickets on sale here:

"Shimura Curves (Streatham)"

G00blar, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Where is Hari from, anyway? I don't actually know! I just kind of assumed he was from... I don't know, Outer Space. :-)

(in a totally good way, mind you.)

Masonic Boom, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

(Also, Tim always puts Streatham for the Shimuras because he really likes to support local music from Streatham/Brixton Hill. Because we're the people who end up propping up his bar at midnight!)

Masonic Boom, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Sun Ra (Streatham)

Mark G, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

We're from London, not Reading/London. Not that it matters much, but if it could be changed.....

Dr.C, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

I can't change it! I didn't write it, Tim did!

Masonic Boom, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh OK.

Dr.C, Friday, 11 May 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

Complaints, complaints, nothing but complaints! Now I understand why promoters are all so bitter! ;-)

kv_nol, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:42 (eighteen years ago)

PERFECT! I NEEDS ONE!! xpost to the poster.

(um, except Pash's track was too long and KenC's took too long.

Unless we make up a 'festival' version for the night!

actually, that's probably a good idea.

xpost three times NOW 4 times! LET ME POST Damanbit..

Mark G, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Oh right - I can't see the flyer. It's probably linked from Flickr or something?

Dr.C, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:44 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, it's on Flickr, I'll email it to you Dr. C.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

Oh dear, I forgot, it is actually an Elephant Seal and I drew a walrus. Oh well, what's a manatee between friends?

Masonic Boom, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:48 (eighteen years ago)

ACES FLYER

emsk, Monday, 14 May 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

so excited!

red bull dozers have a great new song too (that's being recorded tonight..)

ken c, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 11:43 (eighteen years ago)

Has anyone posted the running order yet? Maybe on Ed's thread (which I can't find)?

I know the running order has been decided, just wondered if it was public yet...?

Dr.C, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

It will all be a big surprise. I think we will publish slightly nearer the time, which reminds me I still haven't had any loud clear yesses about amps.

Ed, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

what do we need to yes about? I will need an amp for a guitar and somewhere to plug a laptop and a microkorg into and that's all... erm and a mic. I have an awesome mic too.

ken c, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

oh i see what you mean now

ken c, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)
