Cheating in the medium, BUT I have been drawing dialogue-free comics of my mundane days for a long time:

haha Louis, I don't know what that is but I like it.

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 22 March 2007 00:11 (eighteen years ago)

It looks very far from mundane, whatever it is. I am glad that that, whatever it is, is the scenario from his life that Louis decided to paint.

ailsa, Thursday, 22 March 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

why is that man flying (or falling from the sky) above?

dice in my pockets, Thursday, 22 March 2007 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

n.b. - 'twas not a drawing of the experience itself but a representation of the thoughts it inspired, the experience being pure, undiluted mundanity.

unfished business, Thursday, 22 March 2007 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

I started to mspaint myself being bored reading the appeals cases I'm reading and then realized how depressing it was to procrastinate my work that way.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 22 March 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

I like the self-portrait Trayce. The inner reality of your thoughts in your own handwriting contrast nicely with the nonsense and confusion of modern office life as typified by second in the typeface hegemony, Arial. Also your have pritty red hair.

Abbott, Thursday, 22 March 2007 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

Your comic is really good, btw!

Hurting 2, Thursday, 22 March 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks Mister Sequel, assuming you were referring to me, which I think is actually pretty obvious!

Abbott, Thursday, 22 March 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

There's at least one great detail in every frame - 1) A fragment of the word "success" on the wall 2) Contrast between woman at board w/ditzy self-confidence and your own dilligence/quiet resignation, 3) Dashboard dude (semi-lifeless, moved only by external forces), 4) Melancholic look on your face as you put on Trans-Europe Express 5)The precise slouch of your back 6) Not so much a specific detail, but the cross-legged reading against the wall -- oh, the loneliness of it kills me. It makes me want to jump into the last frame and read next to the character for the sake of company.

Hurting 2, Thursday, 22 March 2007 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

Awww...I am glad you recognized the TEE. I was really proud I drew the thing 1.25" tall so successfully.

i'm the one opening the door, not the one on the toilet.

I dont know what it is about people who dont realize that they should check to see if there is a lock on the door upon entering a one-shitter. A lock that turns a "vacant" sign to an "occupied" sign.

g®▲Ðұ, Thursday, 22 March 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

pix #13: "gather around kids. this is what we call an LED, a love emitting diode. the spirits like these flashing guys, but be careful, they break and create a really high impedance that'll fry your data pathways."

(god, my captions are cheesy. but i figured circuit kids visiting a radio shack zoo was fairly mundane.)

Not sure if this is really mundane, since it was a definitely a shock to me when it happened, but this is the pic of the day I was opening a window which fell out of its casing, toppling a large clay flower pot onto my head. I was actually not naked at the time, but I am in the drawing.

That is a very well-composed coffee spill. It puts my sloppy spilling to shame.

Abbott, Thursday, 22 March 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, it gets more abstract the further you get away from the spill. That is supposed to represent the pile of papers and post-its that absorbed my coffee. My desk is filthy.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 22 March 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

i think ms paint is superior to many commercial packages because apps with too many tools and crap means no mastery. it's all tool overload. this goes true for sound mixing crap.

less buttons = better at those buttons = better control = better implementation of ideas = better chance of good work that'll mean something to ppl.

eh, all bets are off. what do i know about art? i art stooge.

g®▲Ðұ, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, this time last year I might have been in Grimly's mundane experience. It doesn't matter what BhS sells, what matters is that I, and a slightly daffy elderly colleague who drowns iPods in buckets of water, were to be found hanging out there to brighten Grimly's day.

ailsa, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

Also, Lauders is a lovely pub. Well, a cheap pub, and the nearest one to my former place of employment. Why is a person jumping for joy in the window? Or have they hanged themselves?

ailsa, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:17 (eighteen years ago)

they've hanged themselves. well spotted.

and you couldn't have been in it, because meeting friends on the way to work stops it being mundane! :)

grimly fiendish, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

unfished business, Friday, 23 March 2007 00:27 (eighteen years ago)

maybe they hanged themselves because they couldn't cope with the cruel irony of having no legs but a giant pair of shorts.

i should go to bed, not wonder about the motivation of my badly drawn pub depressive. (i think i sort of decided it was the landlord.)

P.P. I didn't know you could draw, bravo.

Ai Lien, Monday, 26 March 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)

In a very general definition of the word "draw", I suppose. Thanks!

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 26 March 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

hey fluffy I hope you don't mind me stealing your drawing for a blog post.

Me trying to decide whether I should keep the dress or return it to H&M; I sort of look like I stepped out of a fifties-housekeeping ad.

Freaky. I was thinking about this thread yesterday while I was waiting for new version of msgr to download through shitty slow-arse dial-up and started drawing, but gave up because I have little to no artistic talent.

Z S, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

Mac peeps can get in on the action for free with PaintBrush or Seashore. PaintBrush is probably more MS Paintlike, tho.

libcrypt, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:32 (seventeen years ago)

oooh, nice. I've just been using photoshop but restricting myself to the pencil function. I'll check PaintBrush out.

Z S, Sunday, 30 March 2008 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

Best PaintBrush tool is the bomb tool.

No but I thought that the green color would give me a freshness in the pic.

that must happen alot for it to be mundane?

csa, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

meaning the butt part, obvious. haha.

csa, Sunday, 30 March 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

Nice black curtains, lib.

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 30 March 2008 23:03 (seventeen years ago)

Well, the butt part is admittedly unique, but people bugging the hell out of me is just part of the day-to-day, I'm afraid.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 30 March 2008 23:32 (seventeen years ago)

Lib, when you re-do your wedding vows, eventually - don't put that on your invitations - though that would be a bit funny.

csa, Sunday, 30 March 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)

Those black curtains are great! They are velvet and rubberized or something on the other side so that they keep out light well past crack of noon.

Wife also laughed at that line when I showed her then she pulled out usual bullwhip and made me sorry for sexist crack.

libcrypt, Monday, 31 March 2008 01:02 (seventeen years ago)

Currently considering starting thread on "diagramming yr mundane experiences" but prob few people have Visio/Omnigraffle or whatever.

Okay this is drawn but, it is pretty banal:

I am finding Paintbrush on the Mac vastly inferior to MS Paint.

oh shitz- I'm hella scared, Abbott! Can we make this a film? It can be a hella good thriller about a bum who kills people who deny him cigs!!
