meta: mixing up ile posters

do you ever confuse different posters, because they seem quite similar?

inspired by nickd mixing up fred and josh, and, er, nickd mixing up myself and pete b. i sometimes confuse anthony easton and mike hanley (esp as both of you just started threads about yoselves!).

any others?

gareth, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought we'd already sorted this nonsense out. *ALL* posters are just different manifestations of the almighty consciousness that is Doompatrol...?

boompatrol22, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I so want to have a tawdry affair with Mike because it would be like entering a mirror.

anthony, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, I confuse masonic boom with kate the saint sinclaire or something.

Nude Kirk, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, in reality, I do mix up people with similar sounding names. Kim and Kerry sometimes, because they sound alike. And are there two Maryannes or Marielas with different spellings? Funnily enough, I usually keep all the Marks straight. But Tims and Toms I find difficult.

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I get Kerry and Tracer confused, gender be damned.

Patrick, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait, there's more than one Kate? Oh. And I definitely can't keep the Marks straight either. The Allys are way easier tho. Do we have any other twin names to worry about?

Kim, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I didn't mean 'either'. Oops.

Kim, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, no, there is only one Kate on this board. Kate the Saint and Masonic Boom are both me, I just changed my address because the Hotmail makeover has rendered it inoperable on this browser/computer/connection.

WE ARE THE KATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! RESISTENCE IS FUTILE!!!!

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh thank goodness. Felt very foolish there for a second.

Kim, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There the all-high Tom aka Tom Ewing and the newer Tom P aka Tom Porrino, but thankfully the latter always adds the P. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not only do I never get confused about any of you ever, I have built small (but powerful) AI models of your speech and thought patterns, which I will use to power the large (but weak) shrines I plan to build to each and every one.

(I have emailed this thread to my friends and they are all replying: "That is cool.")

mark s, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(I have emailed this thread to my friends and they are all replying: "That is cool.")

Now that is cool!

BillPatrol, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i must know who i have been confused with by anyone.

ethan, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Way back when I first started posting, Gareth and Ethan confused me, because of the dipthong thing.

Dip-thong tha thong thong thong.

Ok, leave me alone, it's after midnight here.

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There did used to be another Ethan on ILM, didn't they? Cause right now I'm tired and exhausted and seeing DP's everywhere.

Coming through the doors!!! Climbing up the walls!!!

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aren't there two Seans now? One in Canada, one in California? Well, I'm not confusing them anymore, unless they're the same person.

Arthur, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no other ethan, i just changed my email address. kate, i'm sure you can relate. (rhyme-y!)

ethan, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i keep mixing my self up with my others- you guys are doing fine.

Geoff, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are at least two Seans, but I don't think I've seen the Canadian one on ILE yet.

Kim, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You know, this is perhaps the only forum I've ever been on where I'm the only Kate. Surely it can't last!

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey presto!

kate s, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think I could lay claim to being the only Ned because who the fuck would *want* to be me?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

there are a bunch of Davids. And I alway smix up Kate and Ally becasue they'r e both such posting champions.

Mike Hanley, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The "Kate and Ally" TV show joke was already made eons ago, correct?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 19 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes but we can make it again.

anthony, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me and Fred? Where is this. That is absurd. I would think someone as swift with the thread-lookups as Nick D would be a bit more accurate with people. ;)

Josh, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am more concerned that when I meet people in real life they will expect me to remember every detail of their life they have revealed here, e.g. how could you offer me the bowl of peanuts? You KNOW I am allergic to them! Are you trying to kill me!

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry Josh. It was a complete brainstorm on the What's Your Name, Who's Your Daddy thread. In the very early days of my reading nylpm, I kind of had this josh/fred double-headed monster in my head, 'cause you were both smart American boys with weblogs and four letters in your names. You soon became individuated, but I somehow had a throwback on that thread. Talking of which, there are plenty of people left who haven't yet told us their name and daddy. Get to it.

Emma - I have the same fear.

Nick, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If anyone waves a rabbit at me I will know they have either ignored my comments on the allergy thread or just don't care and want to give me a rash.

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*puts rabbit behind back and tries to look inocent*

Dan Perry, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Another pair I don't exactly confuse, but somehow think of together: Otis and Sterling - it's the big rock American names thing that does it.

Egotistical question: has anyone thought of me in tandem with another ILE/Mer?

Nick, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Help! I can feel rabbit fur microbes seeping across the interweb!

In the Banned Chris Morris thing, it seems he got Richard Blackwood to warn against the dangers to kids of interweb paedophiles who can make toxic gases emanate from your keyboard. Tee hee.

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did they not show it last night? Now I don't feel so bad about missing it...

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The two Maryann(e) thing gets me too - has this long-standing rumour ever been confirmed? There's tedium2000 but is there another?

Mitch Lastnamewitheld and j e l elide in my brain for some bizarre reason (as they live on different continents as far as I know). I think I tend to think of the boards in terms of small groupings - the ex-Sinister people, the ex-a.m.a. people, Team Groke, the a.f.momus people, so those rogue agents with no affiliation get mixed up, unless their posting style is super-idiosyncratic.

Tom, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If one of our Mariannes is tedium2000, then there are two, cause the other is Marianne McLean or something (sorry for the horrible misspelling of your name, if that's wrong) ? Or are they the same person with different addresses, Ethan stylee?

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh right - well that explains why I didn't think there were two, cause Marianna is in the people-i've-met category and so exempt from mix-ups.

I used way back in a.m.a. days to get Sundar and Josh mixed up - I think it was Sundar anyway, but someone and Josh.

Also initially mixed-up were Geordie Racer and Norman Fay.

Tom, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Also initially mixed-up were Geordie Racer and Norman Fay.

Ooh yes, definitely those two.

Nick, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Harumph (huffy noise)

I have no idea how U managed to mix up 2 newcastle-based musicians who tend to SPeLL FuNNY. I mean, get w/it!!!!

Aktually, I've yet to see thee racer on ILE, which is surely a shame. Does he know about it?

xoxo

Norman Fay, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AAARRGGHHHH!!!!

There's another Kate now! For real! And her surname purports to be McGee. Can someone please check the focus group thread and make sure that it isn't just another incarnation of DP? I'm really scared now.

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, it most certainly is not Kate Holmes (she doesn't use the surname anyway). Seems like a pretty normal market research bod to me.

suzy, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate McGhee a) spells her name differently to Alan and Debbie, and b) is one of my best friends: no need for paranoia on this occasion.

Tom, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's what I always pop up my McPopcorn in, tastes miles better...;)

suzy, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am safe in the knowledge that no-one would want to mix me up with anyone else, let alone make that error. Always safer to be part of a world reknowned internet double act.

Pete, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah. And if anyone mixes me up with anyone else I will find out where imposter Emma lives and go round and stop her by any means available.

Emma, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As my contributions are fleeting, and I've no real desire to establish some kind of persona, I'm pretty much not bothered if y'all have any idea who I am. However, Ned getting me mixed with Zodiac Mindwarp was one of the strangest things that has happened to me in a while...

Mark Morris, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

actually pete, if you look at the question again, you'll see that nick d already has mixed you up with someone. me.

gareth, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OK, Tom, cool. I'm just getting really paranoid lately... if you can vouch for her realness, I'll take your word for it.

Popcorn? What? We're having popcorn? I want Paul's weird popcorn that smells like cake, but tastes like normal popcorn!

Kate the Saint, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oops missed that. How could he mix us up? What a fooool.

Kate - trust me, Kate McGhee more than exists - she insisted I finish a bottle of port on Tuesday night despite me obviously not being up for it (I mean I was breathing and all that but....)

Pete, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me and james el? Interesting, because the only similarity I've noticed might be that we're both kinda indie-leaning. Except he apparently likes Bon Jovi, which I consider inexcusable. And, yeah, we're lving on different continents.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That was entertaining, actually. Can I keep mixing the two of you up?

I think I've met Kate McGhee, right? Last year? If so, then indeed, fret not, Kate the Saint. She is a Good Person.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I make the Best Popcorn, I pop in ghee (clarified butter = does not burn, hence bad joke) and add cardamom seeds to the mix so they pop like the corn and lend lovely aroma and hint of taste to the popcorn.

One of the nice things about my otherwise objectionable dad: while making popcorn in the kitchen for me and my hyper sister, he told us it would pop faster if we did the Popcorn Dance. Cue two little kids in pajamas bouncing around the kitchen to the beat of the popping; we were not allowed to stop the dance until popping had finished.

suzy, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Didn't James Brown have a Popcorn dance? I know he had a song called "Mama Popcorn."

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hot butter's 'popcorn' is the greatest song of all time.

ethan, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You want extra James Brown on that Popcorn?

Click here for more! Hot stuff comin' through!

David Raposa, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rogue Agent! I like that!

james e l, Friday, 20 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I used way back in a.m.a. days to get Sundar and Josh mixed up - I think it was Sundar anyway, but someone and Josh.

really? that somehow seems very odd. i think i always thought my name was distinctive enough (unless you're indian) to avoid confusion. i guess we both like some experimental music and some american guitar rock though.

sundar subramanian, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That is two people now with an aversion to capital letters that I've been confused with. Hmph.

Josh, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fred Solinger: Classic or Missing? I figure I must not have seen some important annoucement when I was away 2 weeks ago, because Fred's blog has shut down and I haven't noticed him hanging around either ILM or ILE. Can someone enlighten me as to his current whereabouts?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1. Josh = Sterling = Otis.

2. Sundar = Omar.

3. I sometimes see 'Stevo' and think 'Hey! It's Stevie T' - but it isn't.

4. Nick D: oh, yes, I have often thought of myself in tandem with you.

the pinefox, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fred is around. He posted on IL? sometime in the past week, briefly. He is a BUSY MAN etc.

Josh, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, just email him if it bothers you to not know his whereabouts.

Ally, Saturday, 21 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was just casually curious. Thought he might have announced that he was going on vacation or something.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i figure he's been hiding out in the desert since his aicon appearance.

ethan, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
This was a funny thread concept.

the pinefox, Thursday, 24 April 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

You're at risk of getting confused with Geir, The Pinefox!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 April 2003 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

The Pinefox = the Geir of non-music!

(Ooh, I'm in for it, now...)

kate, Friday, 25 April 2003 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

and of music as well i would have thought?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I confuse fake Ally posters with the real Ally sometimes.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I still don't know how many Ally regulars there are. There seem to be two but I can't keep them apart.

(Started before Sarah's message.)

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 25 April 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I often confuse buttch for oops.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 25 April 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously, I've just confused Oops(not McGee) With Formerly Poops McGee

Surely this thread can be added to now!

Paul Eater (eater), Friday, 14 November 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

ten months pass...
i don't find liking bon jovi inexcusable anymore, i was too uptight then.

i find myself mixing up amateurist and adaml when skimming threads, but i think it's less to do with any similarities of style or opinion or whatever (besides the shared lowercase), and more just the a_a bits of both names.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

The Alexes confuse me ... in NYC, in Mainhatten, in SF, AleXTC. Which is the one whose blood is boiling again?

briania (briania), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

in NYC.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually all the Alex's have had boiling blood at certain points! The triggers are different though (though i've never seen an AleXTC post before.)

ignishin blender, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i used to get nickalicious mixed up with nordicskillz

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Bless you Mitch.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

i mix up mandee and luna and dee and some other people whose names i can't remember

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i think because they generally post to different threads than me. i used to get a lot of the british people mixed up, but i think i've sorted that out now.

amateur!!st, Tuesday, 21 September 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm quite slow.

Dee and luna are like total polar opposites!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)
