This should be fun.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

Inspired by her UTTERLY UNNECESSARY COLUMN in the Graun today.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:00 (nineteen years ago)

As Lisa Simpson once pointed out, if you turn your back and don't look, they disappear.

Noodle Vague, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

It's not going to work.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

Dud but I'd say that we all know of a regular who'll be on here calling her a Classic soon enough :)

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:02 (nineteen years ago)

she has to share a computer with her sister? Bob is such a tightwad.

Send her an invite to here, then!

I don't know anything about her

Tom D., Friday, 30 March 2007 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

Noodle Vague, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

No Matt. Think Paris...

Call me old fashioned (why thank you) but I think I would object to my 18 year old revealing that she shares a bed with her boyfriend. I am such a prude I know!

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

she has to share a bed with her boyfriend? Bob is such a tightwad.

blueski, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

she is to the noughties what Victoria Coren was to the eighties.

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

I've enjoyed more of Alan Coren's work than Bob Geldof's.

That one guy that quit, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

blueski otm, bad enough she reveals how cheap he is about pc but that she has to share a bed as well? One wonders if they even have indoor plumbing... She seems to blame the dog for a lot of things... Just thinking out loud...

kv_nol, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

Victoria Coren is waaaaaaay hotter than Peaches Geldof.

Tom D., Friday, 30 March 2007 10:18 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't get past the first paragraph. You could probably pick somebody at random off the street, bus or train, and the likelyhood is they'd turn in more interesting copy than that.

Pashmina, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, but ALL THOSE GNARDIAN readers who don't know what Myspace is!

(cue lightbulb forming over head of lurking Graun section ed)

DJ Mencap, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

of course they would, but then don't forget Pashmina that newspapers are paid for by those who buy the advertising space within them, primarily, rather than the public who buy the papers. why else would there be so much free content online? It is in the graun's interest to have someone saying vacuous things that don't leave us better informed than when we first started, provided that they make copious references to myspace, Hollyoaks or whatever. And the ideal person to do this is some spoilt brat with loads of disposable income and time on their hands. If I met Peaches I'd prolly tell her to forget about her hair, nails and clothes and go and do VSO or summat.

Grandpont Genie, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

I'd tell her to take it steady with the drugz.

OMG OMG I am going to Channel Four now to pitch a Paris and Nicole Real World style series starring Peaches, but instead of going to work on a farm she has to build a hospital in Burundi or something. It will be patronising and insulting and make everyone's lives just that little bit worse but I'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

She's probably no different from any other self-obsessed 18 yr old, except she gets to make tv programmes and write for the Grauniad because she's Bob's daughter. Well, it's not her fault she's Bob's daughter. How many people here would turn down the opportunity of a media career just because their Dad's famous? I mean, Christ, when was having a London media career ever anything to do with merit and talent? (/devil's advocate)

Tom D., Friday, 30 March 2007 11:06 (nineteen years ago)

wonder who ghosted peaches anyway.

I once interviewed for a job that would have meant being her editor and - I heard- she does write it all herself, or she did for that magazine at any rate.

I quite like her. (And she's still going out with Fred from Les Incompetents, it's the band that split up.)

Anna, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not sure if that makes her better or worse.

Dearest British press,

Please publish Peaches threesome story asap so we can make the 'she has to share a boyfriend? Bob is such a tightwad' joke.

Thanks,

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

Why do you guys really dump on her? I think she's rather cute and not too bad looking and has great fashion sense. She's making good use of her "name" and has a feud with Lily Allen. So I'd say classique. She has the *best* name from the lot. I mean, FIFI and PIXIE? Sheesh, why do people pick these sort of names?

nathalie, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:48 (nineteen years ago)

Pixie is a better name than Peaches.

Matt DC, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

It's not so much picking on her really though is it, it's the mentality that has a supposed serious paper like the guardian publish this article, which is trivial, dated, has been done to death anyway, and which is written in a banal style. The article only gets published because the author is a young "celebrity", the author's "celebrity" is based on nothing other than the fact that she is the offspring of a famous musican/activist. It's all just really pathetic, it gets me down.

Pashmina, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:54 (nineteen years ago)

Well, pick someone from the street then. ;-) You're righth though, I can understand. But I wouldn't hate on her because of that. She'd be daft not to grab the chance to write.

nathalie, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

We're not hating on her, we're hating on the Guardian (again!) and this fucking stupid fucking infantile culture we live in!

Tom D., Friday, 30 March 2007 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

On the basis of this thread it seems women like Peaches, men do not. Then again, lovely as we are, I odn't think Nath and myslef constitute a representative sample of all womankind.

Anna, Friday, 30 March 2007 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

It would be great if they could find some cute Islamic boy for her to do a series with - they could call it "Peaches and Karim"

she seems pretty harmless in a "jonathan aitken's daughter" over-privileged and unnecessarily over-exposed kind of way.

oh, ok.

So, not just sudden abusing of celebrities based on their public image and not personal interactions, then.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

No it wasn't. But even if it was, I still don't see a problem with being critical of her.

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

What, just going up to AWinehouse, etc, going "rurrgh, I hates you" ?

That's crappy.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

Well alright fair point. But isn't that exactly what most newspapers and magazines are doing these days? And you could argue that few of their hacks are close personal friends or have even met Winehouse.

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, but at least they can avoid newspapers/magazines if they want to. But having people just slag them off to their face isn't more 'honest' it's just rude.

I'm sure I'm not saying anything you disagree with, so i'm not getting on any horses, high or no.

"If you don't happen to like them, pass them by" as the song almost goes.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:29 (seventeen years ago)

OTM, I'm not disagreeing and that was a while ago, I built a bridge got over it etc and I'm no longer interested in petty squabbles whether they be with 'knowns' or 'unknowns'

CHESTER FRENCH

TOUR DATES POSTPONED

Chester French regret to announce the postponement of forthcoming tour dates due to illness.

It has been recommended by guitarist Max Drummey's doctors that he take some time off from the road due to personal health issues. A number of US dates have been postponed, as well as the UK run due to kick off this Friday at Club NME at KoKo in London.

Signed to Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak label, Chester French are Milwaukee-raised DA Wallach and Boston native Max Drummey, two friends who wrote and recorded their debut album Love the Future while in their final year studying at Harvard. Drawing on their love of everything from 60’s pop to hip-hop and putting in to practice the basics of song-writing they had learnt from listening closely to Bowie and the Beatles records, they put their unique songs to tape with Wallach handling most of the vocals and Drummey performing much of the music on an orchestra’s-worth of instruments. These recordings found their way in to the hands of Don C, Kanye West’s manager, who offered them a deal. Competing offers from Jermaine Dupri and Pharrell Williams quickly followed. Encouraged by Pharrell’s promise of complete creative control, the duo singed to Star Trak.

Chester French will release their debut album Love The Future on Star Trak in 2009.

A spokeswoman for Peaches Geldof said she would continue to split her time between New York and London on various media and fashion projects, while Mr Drummey will be continuing his music with his band Chester French.

Is "various media and fashion projects" a new euphemism for "lots of drugs"?

Bob Geldof's statement

Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.

Writing "was" destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.

Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken.

Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and Tiger Geldof.

The only thing I really knew about Peaches Geldof was that she seemed the sort who would die at 25. Sad to hear she had apparently cleaned up, but then ... maybe she didn't.

Haven't read or seen anything about this death anywhere but here, tbh. Do people know who she is in the States? Anyway, I do honestly feel bad about her and her extended family, who have indeed dealt with a lot. I also honestly didn't know anything about her except that I thought she was the type destined to die young (like, say, the Libertines guy). The Monday thing I was half-serious about, since in the States Boomtown Rats are a one-hit wonder punchline and that song in particular is often trotted out as its own punchline, but it never occurred to me that people would actually publically use such a tasteless joke. Here? Eh. I'm not sure it is worse than the Brad Delp/Cobain joke that made me wince elsewhere. But all's fair.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 7 April 2014 21:26 (twelve years ago)

oh give me some credit, that Delp/Cobain joke was definitely worse.

She was famous for being the type of person you should hate - rich and privileged and stupid and reaping more riches and privilege and stupidity off the back of that - but at the same time she seemed pretty OK, in the minutes I paid attention to her at least. Maybe too nervous and thoughtful or something. Google her face and it's never hateful, just sad.
