Anyway, onimo and I are at the Dirty Three ATP this month. Anyone else?

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 11:57 (nineteen years ago)

hi dere

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

yo

ledge, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

+ colette and jimd

ledge, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

Then to repeat the success of Christmas, I propose HotShots again lunchtime Saturday. Under the back-to-front telly.

I am going to play that football card game this year, if it's still there.

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

We are Butlins virgins, where might this telly be located?

ledge, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

anyone going to the second weekend?

ken c, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

When you go into HotShots the pool tables are on the right hand side, the bar on the left and the GOTH BOWLING up the back. There are two screens above the bar, one of which shows a reversed picture (for some reason we couldn't quite work out). HotShots is in the main building.

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

ken c, yes.

ledge & jimd attending = awesomes!

Hotshots 4tw!

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I may now bring PS2 due to abundance of ILG repra-zentatives

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

I still want to go. I am now appealing for magic of teh interwebs to find me a ticket. I am lovely, and don't believe aldo if he tells you I get drunked and throw red wine over swish'n'swanky iPods because I don't do that at all, oh noes, not me. I'm crap at GOTH BOWLING, so you can point and laugh at me.

(Al, Hotshots will not work because no fucker's going to get out of their beds for 12 o'clock after LETHAL DEATH CIDER)

ailsa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

I was half thinking about doing that too for drunken SingStar in chalet. (The PS2 that is, not throwing red wine about.)

LETHAL DEATH CIDER may still feature. For those that are not aware and are driving, you pass a cider farm about 3 miles before Minehead. Under £10 a gallon.

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

:'( NO MONIES.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Aldo was ubertrooper at xmas and made it just after 12 with stories detailing why nobody else was going to make it. Ergo, he was HERO of the weekend, in my eyes. Then he had a pint. GG!

and aye, ps2 is all about singstar & GH. no other games will attend.

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

hi dere how will we know which telly is backwards?

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

surely also Katamari

ken c, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

is there a dance machine in teh arcade?

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno... ken, are you in the arcade?

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

He had a pint of Guinness with LIME in it = he is more menk than ubertrooper.

(stories = aldo made us all drink LETHAL DEATH CIDER, except me, I am just crap)

xxxxpost, G, it's the one that reading the league tables makes most sense on.

xpost - there is. There's a DRUMMING THING too.

ailsa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

xxxxpost, G, it's the one that reading the league tables makes most sense on.

Ah, I was thinking we'd have to wait for something starring Cindy Crawford.

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

there was a dance machine in the camber sands arcades... never been to minehead!

can someone phone up and find out? (also which version)

i have been offered a space for ATP2 but still don't know if i wanna take it yet.. will you guys be having chalet parties every night? Ours will be crapy room only places with no lounge :((((((

ken c, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

On backwards TV, sponsor boards advertise unfamiliar products.

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

I think the dance machine is Euromix 2.

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

That guiness with lime in it wasn't that bad really. I think had 2 of those.

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'd forgotten about the lime fiasco. It was pretty good. I forgotted how many I had.

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

I know pubs where putting lime in guinness would get you thrown out.

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Me too.

Me and Mister Monkey are coming to ATP, but our tickets haven't been posted out yet, which is making me concerned.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ours neither. Also haven't hired a car yet.

ledge, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Tickets being late is ATP tradition.

onimo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Foundation reckon they're sending them out to the ticket sellers this week, which is possibly the earliest they've done so. (Note, not the earliest they have claimed to have done so.) Well over 2 weeks before you might want to think about being concerned.

aldo, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Aye, I hadn't even given it a thought.

g-kit, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I know, but I have to book flights. I haven't bought ATP tickets in so long, I've forgotten what happens. I am apprehensive.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

if any kindly ILx-ers (and yes i insist on this kindness) are considering the Dirty 3 ATP, we are looking for one more person to fill out a noncatered 4-berth chalet. write me at s✧✧✧@saidthegramoph✧✧✧.c✧✧ asap. thank you!

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno about throwing out, but lime in a guinness would make me throw up.

ken c, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

Sean, I'm thinking about it seriously. Are you all boys? Do you mind that I am a gurl?

ailsa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

(I am kinda kindly, and I promise not to throw wine on yr iPod)

ailsa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

hi ailsa. we're 2 boys (both canadians, so we're pretty sissy boys), and one australian girl. drop me a note if you decide you're game.

sean gramophone, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

go on, ailsa! it'll be fun.

(not that i'm going. i just think you should.)

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

I have to convince Neil to let me go. I really really want to. Just for Einsturzende Neubaten and GOTH BOWLING.

ailsa, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

We'll mind you.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 3 April 2007 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps you could drop the words "non-stop WoW weekender" into your argument, ailsa?

g-kit, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 07:30 (nineteen years ago)

I would have all this Neubauten and GOTH BOWLING pls sounds fun. Stupid being in australianess.

Trayce, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

Quit it then. U R master of yr own destiny & shit.

I just remembered Andrew calling me "goth curious" at Dec ATP. A phrase I've held close to my heart ever since, but have not had the opportunity to use.

g-kit, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think I've been bowling since ATP. I'm supposed to be going to Rowans in Finsbury Park sometime soon, but it won't be the same without Bela Lugosi's Dead.

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

goth curious

I have been known to describe myself as a wannabe ex-goth - i.e. I wish I'd indulged my gothic tendencies a little more when younger.

ledge, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 10:22 (nineteen years ago)

goth bowling intrigues me...

ledge, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a goth sympathiser

ken c, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

or perhaps just an apologist

ken c, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

It's like real bowling, but with Bauhaus playing in the background.

(the gothness was kind of ruined by them also playing the soundtrack to Bugsy Malone).

Perhaps you could drop the words "non-stop WoW weekender" into your argument, ailsa?

g-kit for teh win!

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

Just remember, the phrase is "goldfarmer" and not cockfarmer.

aldo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 08:30 (nineteen years ago)

Right, in a rare attack of common sense, I have decided not to go. Please all have a really sucky time and don't let aldo/onimo text me when pissed at 3 in the morning to say "woah, we're GOTH BOWLING without you, haha" etc.

The Hairy Dog in Minehead does really good Sunday lunches, btw.

ailsa, Thursday, 5 April 2007 10:14 (nineteen years ago)

OTM OTM I went to the Hairy Dog (which from a distance looked like it was called the Happy Dog, which is a much better name for a pub) with Mr Myopic Void on the Monday before we left, it was good and cheap.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:00 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa, i think you should change your mind, it'll be fun.

also, yay for singstar and cider. we decided last night that we're bringing a BLENDER to make COCKTAILS because ATP is clearly moving up in the world.

i am interested in what this butlins will be like.

colette, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

It is shit and expensive and you'll hate it

</trying to convince myself I've made the right decision>

ailsa, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

(btw, best thing about BBCode is that you can do fake comedy html to make a point)

ailsa, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Yo. I missed this thread. I'm going. I have a strong suspicion that we'll forget it's moved and head down to Camber, thus missing the entire weekend, though.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Dear Colette

You are the devil. I SAID NO. do not encourage me to think otherwise.

love
mrs indecision

ailsa, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

Are you having a WoW weekender instead, A?

g-kit, Thursday, 5 April 2007 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

emil.y, are you sure it has moved?

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 5 April 2007 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

No. No, I'm not sure. That is why I will be missing all of the bands and fun. Perhaps if ailsa turned up at the right place then she could claim to be us, having just mislaid her ticket. We'll be in Eurodisney by that point.

emil.y, Thursday, 5 April 2007 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

Bump.

Just over a week to go. What a surprise, no tickets yet.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

Have you read the bumf they've sent out? "after months of building work and demolishing the café in the centre we have created a fantastic venue" - ATP wreaking havoc in Butlins!

ledge, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:22 (nineteen years ago)

Just over a week to go. What a surprise, no tickets yet.

I got all my mails with my documentation in, saying that they don't send tickets out to overseas people any more, and all I have to do is show up at the venue with the credit card I booked the tickets on and some ID.

Sadly I no longer have the credit card I booked the tickets on, because the bank cancelled it for some stupid reason. I better be able to pick up my tickets anyway.

I am excited now.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:27 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kinda only just realising that there's hardly any bands I want to see at this one. oh well.

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure quite where this means we pick up tickets this year, as last year it was in the bit where the new stage appears to be.

I have had the email with the bumph in, so it's at least a week till I need to start worrying about lack of ticket. Par for the course.

I want to see a good few bands, but AS USUAL the promised running order hasn't materialised.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

Looking forward to:

NICK CAVE SOLO
GRINDERMAN (It can't be all that bad live, despite the patchiness of the record)
THE DIRTY THREE
LOW
A SILVER MOUNT ZION.... (or at least a look, to remind me of when I used to listen to this sort of thing)
DEVASTATIONS (I don't know much about them, but they sort of intrigue me)
JOSH PEARSON
MICK HARVEY
SPIRITUALIZED : ACOUSTIC MAINLINE PERFORMING SPACEMAN 3 AND SPIRITUALIZED SONGS (morbid curiosity, plus the Spacemen 3 bits should be fun)

YOUPI YOUPI YEAH (stab in the dark this, but looks a laugh)
ALAN VEGA

SECRETARY (HOTT SAX WOMAN who has played with James Chance. How can it fail?)
THE SCIENTISTS
TREN BROTHERS
THE ONLY ONES (OK, maybe only for AGAP)
NINA NASTASIA + JIM WHITE
MARY MARGARET O'HARA

Is there anybody I've obviously passed over that I should see?

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

Looking at that now, there's bound to be clashes there, isn't there.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

Is there anybody I've obviously passed over that I should see?

Pajo? Cat Power?

onimo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 11:23 (nineteen years ago)

Not that bother about Pajo's Grinning Face. I suppose Chan might be worth seeing with her New Found Confidence (although it's not exactly going to help POTENTIAL CLASHING).

Saturday night looks like CLASH CENTRAL. Not sure whether the dual appearance of "Nick Cave/Grinderman" means wristbands again?

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

looks like i'm in it for the fappage

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

I see Friday night singstar/GH on the cards if you're on for it.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

now u b talkin my language

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

We need to co-ordinate who's bringing what then.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

now u b talkin another language

tbh i'm worried about TV compatibility etc - do the wee TVs even have scart jacks? i'm confident the widescreen jobbies will be kitted out with proper TV shit, but afaik, the wee TVs they put in the rooms, like in travel taverns etc, have all that kinda shit blanked over.

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Worth a try though. And take a scart to av adaptor. If you have one - I think we have about three dozen.

ledge, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

felix lajko will be AMAAAAZING. do not miss him. it's basically why i'm going. (he also plays London on monday night, for £9. bah!)

anyway, me and my friend Kelly have bought our share-a-chalet tix and are now wholly In. fap might be fun, though i don't know any of you...

sean gramophone, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

I thought they had a portable dvd rental service (or am I confusing it with somewhere else?) which would imply you can get into the inputs. What widescreen tvs? We had one with a separate lounge last year and it was a crappy 14" same as the room only places.

Can't you do a straight rf coax connection out of a PS2? I can't remember what the back looks like. That can just go straight into the aerial input (which you should be able to get to) and then it's just a matter of retuning.

aldo, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

My friends had a 21" widescreen and DVD player in their really fucking plush chalet in december. We had a bed in a box & a portable tv.

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Can't remember non-scart connectivity of PS2, but it shouldn't be an issue unless they've fucked up the portable TVs by welding shit all over them (which they often do in travel tavern type places).

g-kit, Wednesday, 18 April 2007 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

ok i no longer have extra tickets (we went for a share-a-chalet), but we ARE renting a car and driving from London to Butlins. if a couple people want to split the cost with us and come with, email me! bonus points if you are born navigators.

sean gramophone, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yay, tickets turned up today.

Whoever gets their Singstar working has to text the others for Friday night action.

aldo, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

we barely made it there in time for friday night in december

HotShots, 12-ish, Saturday ILX FAP. Apparently someone is getting married onstage between Felix Lajko and Sally Timms.

aldo, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

ain't me.

g-kit, Monday, 23 April 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

NINA NASTASIA + JIM WHITE

I thought Nina Nastasia cancelled?

onimo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

no, she's back!

sean gramophone, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:49 (nineteen years ago)

Well, looks like I'll miss Felix Lajko. I am bringing Mister M to this festival to see Low, and we are not moving from the big stage until we have seen Low, and that is all there is to it.

I'm just glad they're on early.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:01 (nineteen years ago)

Felix Lajko finishes an hour and forty-five minutes before Low start... How could this be a problem? At Camber Sands you could show up 10 minutes before a show started and be in the front row...

sean gramophone, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

welcome to minehead.

g-kit, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

I think the new venue thing is really going to throw me. Why can't things just stay the same?

onimo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

apparently someone got murdered in minehead

ken c, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

still have a couple of seats free in a rental car going London-to-Minehead. we're friendly and nice!

sean gramophone, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

People get murdered all over the place. Except in Camber.

onimo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

You got slaughtered there the first time we went.

aldo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

oh aye but I rose from teh dead three days later

anyway, BUMPITY

HotShots, 12-ish, Saturday ILX FAP. Under the backwards telly!

onimo, Thursday, 26 April 2007 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Bonzer

ledge, Thursday, 26 April 2007 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to be soooo fucked by the time Neubauten is on :(

onimo, Thursday, 26 April 2007 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Should've gone to see them last night then, like I was going to do (but forgot all about it)

ailsa, Thursday, 26 April 2007 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

hello, for a bunch of stupid reasons i'm not able to go this weekend. boo!

if anyone needs a ticket, please email me at lettezilla at gmail dot com. if jimd and ledge don't know you, it would be entrance only-- you'd need to stay with other people...

colette, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

Grrr, aargh, so tempted...but NO.

ailsa, Thursday, 26 April 2007 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

Also as a result of that I might be hanging around on my own for a few hours - if anyone fancies me hanging around and being boring with them then txt me on ... no no it feels weird and wrong putting my phone number on an ilx thread. mail me and i'll give you my number. this offer expires at midday tomorrow.

ledge, Thursday, 26 April 2007 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

HELLO! Nobody told me about this thread! Or about singstar! Or about the fact that ME AND KIT WILL FINALLY MEET W00T!!!!!! (kit, bring your ds! um, you do have a ds don't you? yes, I'm sure you do, probably).

AILSA! COME! BUY COLETTE'S TICKET! STAY WITH US!

JimD, Thursday, 26 April 2007 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

I am literally quite excited and am taking more booze than clothes.

Mister Craig, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

"literally quite excited," eh? COME ON LET'S GO.

emil.y, Friday, 27 April 2007 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

Despite THE PUB NOT BEING OPEN we managed to have fun. Last night's Singstar went on for a bit though...

"And playing with us tonight, on maracas, former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer Bobby Gillespie."

aldo, Monday, 30 April 2007 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

Eh, waht, no pub?

ailsa, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Nick Cave soundchecking meant we couldn't get in. Luckily it was sunny so we sat outside the Fighting Leprechaun.

Well, looks like I'll miss Felix Lajko. I am bringing Mister M to this festival to see Low, and we are not moving from the big stage until we have seen Low, and that is all there is to it.

I'm just glad they're on early.

-- accentmonkey, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 11:01 (5 days ago)

Alan Vega was good though, wasn't he? ;-)

aldo, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Last night's Singstar went on for a bit though...

Ah don't you hate being stuck with awful guests who won't leave! I don't think I've ever got to bed before three on a singstar night.

THE PUB NOT BEING OPEN

Weren't jack's and crazy horse open with djs till 3 or 4? We had a look in on fri but the joints were hardly jumpin' - i.e. jack's was completely empty - but it was quite early.

ledge, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:04 (nineteen years ago)

Friday night Crazy Horse was total carnage. In my head anyways.

Mister Craig, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

Last night's Singstar went on for a bit though...

Your hospitality is too good.

We have just arrived home, having passed a lovely day at Dunster Castle. V. sleepy. It was great to see everyone. Including Alan Vega.

accentmonkey, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

Did you go to the Bakelite museum, people?

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 06:52 (nineteen years ago)

ME AND KIT WILL FINALLY MEET W00T!!!!!! (kit, bring your ds! um, you do have a ds don't you? yes, I'm sure you do, probably).

Oh darn! I didn't see this post until I got home. And I had my DS with me the WHOLE TIME. fiddlestix.

Aldo's hospitality knows no bounds.
Joe Mangle @ ATP = wtf

It was lovely to meet everybody. I'm not quite sure how I made it home in one piece after sunday night, yet here I am.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

Joe Mangle @ ATP = wtf

onimo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

AMAZING, wp!

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

No bakelite museum for us. Also disappointed I didn't go bowling or swimming or do crazy golf or go on the fairground or any of the other fun butlins stuff. Maybe next year I'll book a chalet for the whole week.

ledge, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 09:32 (nineteen years ago)

I hear that; I didn't even play arcade games this time.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

We bowled with FARRELL, who turns out to be good at bowling, so watch out for that. Mister Monkey had never bowled before, but he's really into it now.

No bakelite museum for us either. It was too nice a day to leave Dunster, so we hung around there until it was time to get our plane, basically.

I am definitely getting a self-catering chalet next time. Being left to the mercy of Butlins cooking (and prices) is not something I want to do again.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 10:16 (nineteen years ago)

Which ones more drunk, Onimo?

(Actually it was definitely Joe M*ngle; he was off his face most of the time, but then again so were most of us. I just wish I had plucked up enough courage to ask him the Lou and Harold question...)

Guilty_Boksen, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

That I considered punching him for being slightly rude to Mrs O indicates that I may have been almost as drunk as him, though at least I was able to occasionally walk away from the bar rather than use it to hold myself up.

onimo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

I totally spotted teh_kit! But I said nothing as didn't think he'd know who I was. *sobs*

(I also met Alan Sparhawk who was amazingly lovely and friendly and awww wubblesome, took a picture but I haven't installed my camera software yet.)

emil.y, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

b-b-but how can you be sure it was me?
aw, you should've said hi! i remember anybody with a dot in their name...

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

If I wasn't consumed with intense jealousy before, the Joe Mangel thing has just finished me off totally.

ailsa, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

my friend was in the chalet opposite him, and says that because he saw it so often, he now has an image of a shirtless, sunbathing j03 m4ng13 burnt onto his retina.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

whereas i see singstar when i close my eyes.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still singing Erasure's "Respect" in my head (with exaggerated comedy Scottish accent and rrrrrrrolling rrrrrrrrs).

onimo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Snow Patrol in a bogtrotter accent was good as well.

aldo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

And I have just remembered "Fuck me, it's like Arab Strap playing in your front room."

aldo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

And that someone (Jim?) thought I had written a (several?) songs by James Kochalka. I must be sobering up.

aldo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

who's going to ATP2?

who wants to go?

ken c, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

i hear there's karaoke at ATP2 unlike ATP1

ken c, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

i'm there.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

wrt finally sobering up, Captain Morgan should be nicknamed kittens' ruin.

g-kit, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

i hear there's karaoke at ATP2 unlike ATP1

-- ken c, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 21:58 (18 minutes ago)

You heared SUNDAY NIGHT RUIN wrong.

aldo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

Actually it was definitely Joe M*ngle; he was off his face most of the time

Hahah HOLY SHIT, awesome onimo! I saw him in the bottle shop round the corner from my house a year or 2 back and he looked wasted and shambling then and that was early evening! Apparently the reason he left the show was some dodgy "being kicked out for losing plot" reason. POor bastard.

Trayce, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

who's going to ATP2?

ken c, Saturday, 5 May 2007 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

I wished I was and then Xiu Xiu aren't playing after all so I'm alright with that although I'd go if I could afford it and circumstances permitted but hey at the end of the day wtf have a good one kids

Mister Craig, Saturday, 5 May 2007 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

So I remembered I'd shot some cheap crappy video on my camera - here's some of Grinderman, filmed whilst moshing so yeah it's all over the place:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=EhIUTvLILsQ

There's also 30 seconds of onimo and aldo doing a little respect on singstar but I thought I'd better check with them before making it public, perhaps the world is not yet ready..

ledge, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

I suspect the world is not ready, but WHAT THE HELL, I AM.

aldo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yes. I think you guys should release that version as some sort of charity single.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

i'd buy it.

g-kit, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

ok, i wouldn't. but i'd pick it up in HMV and look at the box.

g-kit, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

We need the chalet reaction to "Like a king's penis" for completeness.

aldo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

WHAT THE HELL, I AM.

Aye, go for it. I think.

onimo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

Ok I'll put it up this evening. The names will be changed to protect the innocent.

ledge, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure I was present for this 'performance'.

g-kit, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure I was entirely present tbh

onimo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

It was a bit before you arrived, g-kit. We could hear them singing it as we approached TEH MURDER CHALET and they were in full swing by the time we got there.

"Like a king's penis" is still one of the funniest things I've ever heard. I'll be very disappointed if I discover you didn't make it up, Aldo, so don't ever tell me.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 11:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't recall anything about king's penises, pls explain?

Here is weegie erasure:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qkb38fgXUB0

ledge, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 08:23 (eighteen years ago)

It was while the boys were singing "I've never been to me" (or whatever it's called). There is the line "I've been undressed by kings, and I've seen some things that a woman ain't s'posed to see", after which Aldo added (totally in tune, of course) "like a king's penis".

Some of us thought this was very funny.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

Best version of an Erasure song ever.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Blimey! That is much more in tune than I remember it. Nice one aldo and onimo (and ledge for capturing it for posterity.)

Is it me or does accentmonkey not quite believe what she is hearing/seeing?

(btw, every time I watch that clip, my PC crashes. I think the two may be connected.)

Guilty_Boksen, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 10:42 (eighteen years ago)

I guess I just never realised the awesome power of Singstar before then.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:03 (eighteen years ago)

will this happen again at ATP2?

ken c, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

does someone say "jaysus" at the end of that truly fantastic clip?

if so, i maybe can't blame them :)

i'm going to have that stuck in my head all day. and not in a good way.

but yeh, er, "respect" due.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

Oh man. So drunk. Aldo seems to be louder than me, for which I'm eternally grateful.

will this happen again at ATP2?

You'll have to find to two other drunken morons.

onimo, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

Is it just teh g-kit and ken c from here going to the second weekend? I've been offered a ticket in the past couple of days and I'm feeling the pretty tempted, despite the line-up being somewhat indie compared to the hardcore blowout that was ThurstonATP. I mean I'm thinking it might actually be a bit more relaxing and like a holiday!

myopic_void, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)

does someone say "jaysus" at the end of that truly fantastic clip?

That'd be Mister M. He was a little... stunned by the whole event, bless him.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

OMG OMG OMG.

ailsa, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

How was the second one?

I have a few photos of bands in this flickr set, and more importantly, pictures of me and Alan Sparhawk, hussar.

emil.y, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, is the second one this weekend, or was it last? Er.

emil.y, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

God, I've lost all conception of time. Help me.

emil.y, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

neither, it's next weekend.

g-kit, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

hey emil.y, i just looked at your atp pics... you know t0m c00g4n?
i don't know him, but i was like hueg h1r4m3k4 h1-f1 fan.

g-kit, Friday, 11 May 2007 10:58 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Tom's lovely. I'm actually in a band with him at the moment, although being sunk under a million words of essays and exams I'm being somewhat flaky about the whole thing.

You should come along to the Gringo Records 10th Anniversary gig. HH-F are reforming! Some info:

(sorry if anyone thinks this is spamming, but it's not like I'm playing or putting it on or anything.)

emil.y, Friday, 11 May 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, totally. I'd love to see the hi-fi again, but Notts is a hell of a long way from Essex for a gig. Proud Tradition is still one of my favourite albums.

g-kit, Friday, 11 May 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

It's a saturday: go to gig, get drunk, have much fun, stay over in Notts, look at a windmill, have sunday lunch, possibly get drunk again, head home. Voila.

emil.y, Friday, 11 May 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

alas, i'm not intrepid enough to do that. are they reforming for this gig only, or are they gonna stay together?

g-kit, Friday, 11 May 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's a one-time thing. What about Mrs teh_kit, couldn't she come along and make you be brave? We're not all crack-addicted gang-whores in Nottingham, you know.
