Hey Carlos, here's a little input thought for one of your shows. I know you're the only one with big enough balls to talk about it on the air:
The subject is about the Hispanics that are translating the National Anthem to a spanglish version. I've even spoke with some of my Hispanic friends and they think it's the most stupid idea these idiots could come out with, I agree. Now before you think anything else, these friends of mine are all for the easier legalization of immigrants that work their asses off in this country, I support that to. Their argument is that the idea is fu... stupid because it insults this country, and to them and me it's the equivalent to burning the American flag in public. My friends say that this bunch of revolutionary morons wouldn't like the idea of someone going into their country and try to change their patriotic symbols; they would be offended just like us Americans are. In my opinion, since I've lived in El Salvador for three years and Mexico DF for two, the countries these people (with all due respect) have left behind are in the shi..hole that they're in because of ignorant-half-digested revolutionary thoughts that some people are brainwashed with. Many of the citizens in those countries are not dumb enough to believe that protests and boycotts are the best things to do; in fact, they attack people that provoke them (verbally). Me and my friend Eduardo here present agree that Hispanics shouldn't create even more hate towards them, they should actually win the respect of the people that are against them and prove that they are worthy of staying in this country.

What bothers me most about Mencia (and Rogan) is that they/their supporters justify their vile racist humor with "He's just saying what everybody's already THINKING, maaaan! Carlos is just more HONEST than you PC liberal pussies!"

As much as I hate to say it, I think this line of thinking sort of grew out of the popularity of Chappelle among the frat set. Guys who didn't understand all the different sources of humor in an accessible-but-sophisticated sketch like "Blind Supremacy" or "The Niggers" came away thinking it was funny cause "hur hur he called white people niggers, but HE'S the nigger! hur hur, look! a crackhead! crackheads are funny!"

[please note: no projection happening here, I've actually heard this line of thought from drunk frat guys on more than one occassion]

Obviously whereas Chappelle mocks and subverts racial stereotypes, Mencia & Co revel in them.

And where Chappelle eventually went kind of nuts when he realized that a portion of his fanbase was laughing at the stereotypes and not the satire, Mencia really doesn't seem to care. Unfortunately the end result is that some people are "getting" the humor of both at the same base level.

Mencia had one section of his stand-up routine where he questioned his "DEE DEE DEE" jokes after being asked to do a show for a class of mentally retarded kids where the moral was "If you have a joke you want to say about a group of people that you are uncomfortable saying in front of that group of people, then you aren't joking" that was surprising to me given the rest of his act.

The rest of his show can go fuck a hat, though.

Right, that's part of what's so frustrating about his show! A couple sketches in that first season had very funny Chappelle-esque mockery of stereotypes, but I think somewhere along the line Mencia got a lot dumber (and his humor with him) or a lot more cynical as he embraced an audience hungry for 'honest' race-baiting humor.

Ernest was a good guy.

Ron White outclasses them all because his material is better, his delivery is better, and he has a bit of an outsider "edge" to him. No fart jokes, either. Even the more redneck-y bits are funny. Like the landscaper bit.

This guy walks over to the tree, he scratches the bark with his thumb, walks back over to me, and he says this, and I quote: "The core of this tree is still alive." I said, "Let me tell you what I'm looking for in a fuckin' tree. I'm looking for a tree that you can tell is alive even if you don't know shit about trees."

I saw some Larry the Cable Guy stand-up on TV that wasn't bad. And there was this weird knowing moment where he told some joke and everyone laughed and he was laughing and he totall slipped out of character and said something like "I don't care who you are...that's just funny", like he realized he told a joke that really qualified a joke and didn't rely on the character or schtick or anything. It was touching.
